Dracula and the Sultan - an LGBT romance!
How the brother of the real life Dracula ended up in an LGBT romance with an Ottoman sultan - TV historian Tony McMahon reveals all
This has to be one of the most unlikely gay relationships in history. An LGBT romance between the younger brother of the real Dracula – Vlad the Impaler – and the Ottoman sultan, Mehmed II. Dracula’s kid brother, Radu the Handsome (yes, he really was called that), overthrew Vlad with help from Mehmed. The two men had formed the most intimate of bonds in the royal bedchamber. Men hate women due to trauma but women literally have a history of men oppressing them due to being women.
Being mean to men, straight people, and white people is fucked up but they don’t have the same history that women, lgbt people, and poc have.
Right...
Except plenty of white people have the same history as POC. Look into the history of the Slavs, or the people who were conquered by the Ottoman empire. Straight up Europeans have had the exact same experiences. The idea that white people haven't is a VERY america-centric no-nuance point of view.
Men throughout history may not have had things like "being unable to make a bank account" or "it being legal to rape them if they're your spouse" but men have always bore the brunt of suffering throughout history. They've always been the ones who were the majority of those targeted for murder, the ones dragged into war... When men are being brutally killed, the fact we think a woman had it worse because she was raped is a fundamental failure to understand that death is worse because we've decided a woman's suffering is more important to care about using exactly this "men have never experienced X" logic. Look through history, and you'll find men experiencing so much worse than rape or lacking certain rights. We just don't care because women's suffering is considered more important.
Straight people's the only one I can give you that on. It's still bad to hate them regardless, no bigotry is justified, but straight people are the only group in your list that have never been targeted for violence or oppression for being what they are. That tho, again, doesn't matter. It's still not okay to hate them.
POC, LGBT+ people and women all have various issues, both historical and current, that are important to care about. Trying to paint men and white people as never experiencing the same shit takes a lack of historical knowledge and a "only women's suffering matters" mindset.

//I can do scenarios/hcs of the other boxers, I'll just have to nab them from my old personal blog. Some of them are due for good updating anyway.
I previously also had King Hippo and Bald Bull blogs, if only so I can write someone from each Circuit of the game. But I've sadly lost interest in writing for them altogether. Hippo requires full worldbuilding, and I am more familiar with Ottoman history than I am for the Republic of Türkiye.
As of today, the other boxers I'd actually feel more comfortable with writing for are Disco Kid (because I am super fascinated with the history of disco and LGBT in the black community), Don Flamenco (because fuck yeah Spain, plus I have actually visited Madrid, and I have Spanish OCs), and Super Macho Man (as I am Southern Californian, and I am honestly feeling for writing Macho as a criticism of Southern Californian living).
So feel free to ask if you want. This blog is probably not seeing any RP anytime soon. Just be mindful that you do not reblog my RP threads, that is disrespectful.
If you DO find something you want to reblog, though, ask me, then I can make a separate rebloggable post. Just look for [Okay to reblog] as a tag.

A list of 21 romance books featuring queer, disabled, and queer-disabled characters and themes!
I know not every book featuring lgbtq+ characters has to be a romance, but I appreciate the sheer diversity that is the queer romance genre. It's just fantastic.
I tried to diversify the book selection here- half of the romance section is lgbt literature, so I tried to pick as many different sexualities and disabilities as I could without repeating too many of the books from previous lists.
The books on this list are:
🏳️🌈 "Ziggy, Stardust and Me"- Brandon, James
🏳️🌈 "Wrong to Need You"- Rai, Alisha
🏳️🌈 "Wicked Sweet"- Cameron, Chelsea M.
🏳️🌈 "Verona Comics"- Dugan, Jennifer
🏳️🌈 "Their Troublesome Crush"- West, Xan
🏳️🌈 "Stars in Your Eyes"- Callender, Kacen
🏳️🌈 "Stars in Their Eyes"- Walton, Jessica. Aśka.
🏳️🌈 "The Stagsblood Prince"- Wood, Gideon E.
🏳️🌈 "Sick Kids in Love"- Moskowitz, Hannah
🏳️🌈 "The Never Tilting World"- Chupeco, Rin
🏳️🌈 "The Luis Ortega Survival Club"- Reyes, Sonora
🏳️🌈 "Long Macchiatos and Monsters"- Evans, Alison
🏳️🌈 "The Doctor's Discretion"- Ottoman, E. E.
🏳️🌈 "Connection Error"- Albert, Annabeth
🏳️🌈 "A Shot in the Dark"- Lee, Victoria

LGBTQI+ rights in Qatar
LGBTQI+ people in Qatar experience legal and social challenges. They may face widespread persecution by homophobic state. Transgender Qataris and LGBTQI+ expats are an easy target of discrimination in Qatar.

Legality of Homosexuality
Male homosexuality have been illegal in Qatar since 1938, with punishments for both Muslims and non-Muslims potentially including up to three years in prison. There is no explicit prohibition of lesbianism in the legal code. Female homosexuality may be viewed as zina under Sharia law but is not typically punished under the current anti-homosexuality law in Qatar.
For Muslims duly convicted in the Sharia courts, a judicial sentence of capital punishment for sodomy or extramarital sex is a possibility. Furthermore, death penalty is only applicable to muslims because extramarital sex regardless of the gender of the participants is punishable by death & because same-sex couples cannot get married in Qatar. However, there is no evidence that the death penalty has been applied for consensual same-sex relations taking place between adults outside the spaces policed by authorities.
History
Queerness was widely tolerated and accepted in pre-colonial period. When Qatar was part of Ottoman Empire, homosexuality wasn't a criminal offense. Until 1916, queerness was tolerated in Qatari society.
Homosexuality was first criminalized in Qatar by British colonists through the Order in Council 1938. This was replaced by Article 171 in 1956, and then after independence, Article 171 was replaced by Article 201 of Qatar's 1971 Penal Code. Since 2004, Article 296 (Law 11/2004) stipulates imprisonment between one and three years for sodomy between men. This is less severe than the 1971 law that stipulated up to five years' imprisonment for gay sex. The death penalty for sodomy is applicable only to muslims because sex outside the traditional marriage is punishable by death, and because same-sex couples cannot get married.
Same-sex marriage, union
Sex outside traditional heteronormative marriage is illegal and no legal recognition exists in Qatar for same sex partnerships.
Discrimination
It's not uncommon for Gulf states to restrict LGBTQI+ immigrants and travelers from entering the country.
In June 2011, the UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution for protection of human rights of sexual and gender minorities. But Qatar voted against this resolution (Source: IGLHRC 17 June 2011; Human Rights Brief 10 Nov. 2011). In 2016, an opinion piece published in the outlet Doha News by a gay Qatari man using the pseudonym Majid Al-Qatari described the experience of being gay in Qatar as "jarring" and highlighted the "irreparable damage to his mental health." This piece faced criticism for "allowing the discussion of 'homosexuality' in Qatar." Consequently, Doha News encountered threats from locals.
In 2018, nine entire articles focusing on gay and transgender rights, which were published from April to July, were censored in the Doha edition of The New York Times International Edition. These articles covered various topics such as LGBT rights in Africa, criticism of the US military's transgender ban, and a retrospective on a 1973 fire that claimed 32 lives at a New Orleans Gay Bar. The Government Communications Office for the State of Qatar released a statement promising to investigate the issue.
In December 2021, Nasser al-Khater, the CEO of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, said that "Nobody feels threatened here, nobody feels unsafe here," but he also noted that "public displays of affection are frowned upon, and that applies universally – across the board.Qatar is a conservative and modest country[...] Gay individuals coming to Qatar as fans of a football tournament can engage in activities like any other person. However, Qatar is conservative in terms of public displays of affection." Khalid Salman, an ambassador for the Qatar World Cup, referred to homosexuality as "damage in the mind" and suggested that gay individuals require treatment.
The tournament organiser also welcomed Josh Cavallo, the world's only current openly gay top-flight professional footballer, at the World Cup. Cavallo had said that to know that the World Cup was being held "... in a country that doesn't support gay people and puts us at risk of our own life, that does scare me and makes me re-evaluate – is my life more important than doing something really good in my career?" Qatar's FIFA World Cup banned the OneLove Armbands and threatened sporting sanctions against players who wore them, leading to widespread disappointment among LGBTQI+ fans and sports teams. Regarding the OneLove Armband controversy, Qatar's World Cup chief, Hassan Al-Thawadi, mentioned in an interview that OneLove was seen as an attempt to convey a divisive message in the Arab world.
Recognition of Gender Identity
In Qatar, changing one's gender is not allowed. Trans and intersex individuals in Qatar can face arrest under the charge of "impersonating the opposite gender." These individuals are often accused of "violating public morality" or infringing upon laws related to "community protection." Upon suspicion, the police have the authority to detain them for up to six months without trial or charge. During detention, authorities may try to enforce adherence to local gender norms, sometimes resorting to measures like involuntary detransition or conversion therapy. However, in the past, Qatar showed tolerance towards gender variant identities such as eunuch, khunsa, khanith, and boyah to some extent.
LGBTQ+ Activism
Naser Mohamed (also known as Nas Mohamed) is a Qatari LGBTQ+ rights activist who advocates for the rights of LGBTQI+ Qataris. Since 2011, Mohamed has resided in the United States. In May 2022, he made history by becoming the first Qatari to publicly come out as a gay man. His decision to come out in May was intentional, aiming to raise awareness of LGBT rights in Qatar ahead of the country hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November.
In the same year, Mohamed established the Alwan Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the human rights of LGBTQI+ people in the MENA. He envisions collaborating with renowned organizations like Amnesty International & Human Rights Watch to conduct interviews with LGBTQI+ individuals in the region.
Additionally, Mohamed founded Proud Maroons, a supporter's club for LGBT fans of the Qatar national football team. His efforts are instrumental in promoting inclusivity and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights in the region.
Queer Khaleeji is a community initiative that has been actively involved in supporting LGBTQI+ individuals not only within the Gulf region but also abroad. It offers support services to Peninsular Arab LGBTQ+ individuals, serving as a bridge to connect them with organizations and hospitals, and providing assistance in navigating the challenges they may encounter.

♥ (sorry forgot to include this, feel free to ignore the last ask) Hello! My name is Blair. I am sending out a signal for a 21+ rp partner that is interested in original universe dark fantasy (with horror elements), with a touch of romance and smut. I'm not picky so much about what genders I write against but lately I've been looking to write against male and androgynous characters. I am 26 years old and my timezone is MST. Any pronouns.
I am very queer/lgbt friendly! I have 15ish years of rp and writing experience. I am interested in roleplay in original fantasy universes of our own creation, where we combine our lore to make a fun story together! Or perhaps I could throw my character/s into your original universe? We can decide! I primarily dabble in mythology, taking inspiration from Celtic, Norse, Roman, Greek, Persian, Ottoman, and many other mythologies and folklores for my writing and characters. I also enjoy worldbuilding and speculative biology & evolution. This plays a lot into my writing and character design.
Important things before approaching me:
I have a character in mind. Over time I will be open to writing with other characters, but for now I would like to focus on my main OC, Valeriu. You can find more info about him on my dedicated rp blog!
This character is an androgynomorph/simultaneous hermaphrodite. I label him as a 'male' character but really that's just a vibe thing. He's an alien fae. Human concepts of sex and gender just dont fit properly.
I LOOOVE bugs and they will play a big part in the designs of my characters, so if you are entomophobic I would steer clear. If you love bugs a little bit too much for the comfort of regular people, please come closer. I promise I don't bite.
My character does not fall into any human concept of sex or gender. Concepts like 'cis' or 'trans' or 'nonbinary' just don't apply. Also, he's not your typical cute pale little waifish fae. If this is not what you're looking for or turn off for you, we likely wont be compatible.
No one liners or passive writers. I usually write a few paragraphs to novella format. Don't expect tons, just something to work with.
I’m going to be honest: My activity can range from rapid fire to…not so rapid fire. Sometimes I go through periods of depression/low energy and that can give me writer's block. I always eventually come out of it. But a patient partner is appreciated.
Please come with an idea for a character/s already in mind. Even if vague.
I'd like to tackle some darker topics. ⚰️🕊️ is to be expected when writing with me. I will go into more detail as we plot but topics like: demonic possession, psychosis, stalking, slavery, murder, body horror, dub-con, psychological horror, sexuality, blood and gore, drug and alcohol use, war, occult imagery, mpreg, creepy crawlies, unhealthy relationships, obsession, religious themes, fire, fungi and mushrooms, monsters…stuff like that.
I usually write in multi-paragraph to novella form. I can do combat/action scenes, character intrigue and drama, smut and romance, angst, fluff, multiple characters (though I usually have one main POV character), and much more. I am also willing to do crossovers and interact with characters from canon franchises that have similar fantasy/horror genre leanings. like Dragon Age, DnD, ASOIAF, Lovecraft, Hellblade, ACOTAR, etc etc etc. My favorite place to roleplay is tumblr and discord.
I am looking for a rp partner that is flexible and understanding. I don't demand certain amounts of activity from my rp partners, everything is chill and at our own pace. Feel free to like or DM me if interested!

ROUND 2, MATCH 4
Admin's commentary: Battle of the Vladislavs let's gooo
***
WHAT MY PROFESSOR OF MEDIEVAL HISTORY SAID ABOUT THEM

I.Ulázsló (Vladislav I.) 1440-1444
became king because the nobles justifiably didn't want to have a fucking fetus on the throne during war with Ottomans
said war with Ottomans being the battle of Varna. where he fucking died.
@rulers-of-poland-tournament said about him: "in Poland, Ulázsló, or Władysław Warneńczyk, has become an unofficial patron of the Polish LGBT+ community, regardless of whether the allegations of his homosexuality were true or not. aside from that, he is remembered as a hot-head and poor decision-maker"

II.Ulászló (Vladislav II.) 1490-1516
I'll be honest, at this point we were at the end of the last lecture of the semester and trying to wrap shit up, our professor didn't say much about him as a person
rule of Jagiellonians in Hungary is generally remembered as a bad time, what with the continued Ottoman expansion, economic downturn and several uprisings
this dude in particular is remembered as "king Dobrze" (dobrze - "good" or "well" in Polish) for his habit of just agreeing to everything
at least he had the decency to pave the way to much more competent people by signing a treaty of succession with the Habsburgs, at the same time, he married Ferdinand I. to his daughter Anna, honestly the best decision this man has ever made
there's also some hillarious stuff with him marrying the widow of Matthias Corvinus and becoming a bigamist, but we didn't talk about that on our lectures
basically just a massive L of ruler, if this bracket was about the worst king of Hungary, he and II.András would square off in the finals

Round two

Giorgos Kapoutzidis is a famous actor/screenwriter/presenter. He's mostly known for writing the shows Στο παρά πέντε/In the nick of time and Σαββατογεννημένες/Women-Born-On-Saturday in which he also had main roles as Spyros and Jose respectively. He talks openly about his sexuality and how people with different sexualities should not be treated as less human. Also, it appears like he only writes lgbt roles for himself so far, (Spyros was ace and Jose bi) Last year he was also the speaker on Eurovision and currently he is working on the script of Σέρρες/Serres, and his play called "42497"
Karagiozis is a shadow puppet and fictional character of Greek folklore, originating in the Turkish shadow play Karagöz and Hacivat. He is the main character of the tales narrated in the Turkish and Greek shadow-puppet theatre. The plays usually focuses on him trying to find a job to feed his family as he gets into shenanigans. This far that man has had as many job as Barbie
Theodoros Kolokotronis was a Greek general and the pre-eminent leader of the Greek War of Independence (1821–1829) against the Ottoman Empire.

I feel it must be stressed, again, that understanding the actions of Hamas in response to continued Israeli aggression over the 15 years Gaza has been treated like an open-air prison--and going back further than that the systematic displacement and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians starting in 1880 with the purchases of land from absentee Ottoman landlords that those Palestinians were forced to vacate--is not the same as condoning them. Unrestrained violence against a population's civilians is absolutely not worthy of support or solidarity, regardless of who is engaging in it. It is part of the playbook of settler colonialism that innocents are put on the front line against any retaliatory violence executed out of desperation such that disproportionate violence can be justified in response to it.
But Hamas are not heroic. They're not freedom fighters. They're not soldiers of light. They are a gang of thugs running an open-air prison who massacred the other political blocs in Gaza after Israel signal boosted them, because of course using the US strategy of funding religious extremists to remove leftist opposition didn't work, as usual. They are holocaust deniers, they disseminate the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, they deliberately conflate Jewish identity with Israeli identity to justify total extermination of that religious bloc, they're vehemently anti-LGBT. They are not good people.
Now that I've said the obvious, I feel it should also be mentioned that a lot of shit that Israeli news orgs have spat out about Hamas' treatment of civilians is false. Do not fall for the beheading babies shit. Shani Louk is alive, if in critical condition with a traumatic brain injury and is being looked after in a Gazan hospital. From a lot of the reports, it appears that Hamas did not, at all, expect this kind of lacking resistance from the IDF (because of course Netanhayu moved a bunch of soldiers from the South to go oppress the West Bank some more even after being told that this would happen), and so they've penetrated much further into Israel than they intended and are now terrified of the level of reprisal that might be levelled in response. The foreign nationals were likely initially mistaken for Israelis, and when Hamas checked, they realised that they were wrong and they've been moved away from the front lines as hostages for leverage. They have threatened to start shooting hostages but given such an act would be an utter death sentence for them with no hope at all of any mercy, no matter how slight, I sincerely doubt that is the case.
You need to understand though that the murder and abuse (this is not, specifically, rape, considering that this has not yet been confirmed) of Israeli citizens is the logical conclusion of treating an entire population like animals: they lash out like cornered animals desperately. They are people, and people driven to desperation will do horrible, terrible things.
I can't condone it, but I do understand it.
Edit: and if you're going to come onto this post and talk about how decolonisation is always violent I am going to boot you into the fucking sun. No, it's not, have you heard of the Land Back Advocates for the Native Americans who are the end state of what this treatment of the Palestinians will result in?

Get The Necromancer's Tale on Steam today!
I worked as a writer on this game, adding voices to characters and narration to plots. The game is a narrative RPG, drawing inspiration from games like Disco Elysium, but in a very different setting and tone.
Read on for a taste of what you might find in the game!
A small list of characters I wrote:
A witch with a personal vendetta against your uncle, the Baron
The leader of an underground smuggling group who really rules the docks
A grandmother who just wants to tell a good story
A noblewoman who would rather be doing mathematics than attending a ball
Literally Alexander Pope, the writer
A trio of Ottoman guards who have grand ideas, if you know how to speak Turkish
A pair of bisexual sailors who would be happy to add you to their tally
A baker from Brandenburg who hopes birthday cakes will catch on
Plus many more!
There were plenty of other characters I shared with others, such as the Baron himself, five orphans who just want to prank their teacher, a crew of dockworkers and their overbearing harbourmaster, and a tavern-owner whose invention might revolutionize her trade.
Several of the plots I wrote for this game involved hard choices you have to make. Do you do the right thing, or the thing that helps you? Are you charitable, or opportunistic? And where are you getting all those bodies?
Oh, and yeah, it's got a handful of LGBT stories and characters, because I couldn't help myself!
Give the game a play, and let me know what you think!

I am not that knowledgeable about Georgia, but is it a very religious country? Because that can explain a lot to me.
yup. sorry I didn’t explain it further (I did edit the post). they’re religious but specifically christian. Christianity is a huge part of georgian national identity because it has historically been threatened (we’re riiiiight next to turkey & the Middle East, which means we got conquered a lot by persians, ottomans, etc). This fact gets weaponized a lot across the board, because Georgians will never vote for policies that infringe on christian ideals (specifically anything LGBT related, because that also offends their extreme masculinity).

What do you think the lack of gay characters? I wished they show the homosexuality in Ottoman empire . Who was actually gay and wasn’t shown?
Might be shocking but I am actually happy with the lack of lgbt characters.Look in order to portray lgbt character while talking or showcasing the Ottoman Empire, they wouldn’t be showcasing homosexuality…they’d be showcasing pederasty. Pederasty is a sexual relationship between a man and a young boy or simply a nonconsensual relationship with power imbalance (ie,sultan and servant). The difference between homosexuality and Pederasty is that homosexuality is a consensual relationship between two adult men/women. Pederasty is not. In Ottoman Empire homosexuality is okay as long as it is between high prolific person and a servant, prostitute…etc
So you want them to portray this? An old man humping on a young boy?
Who was possibly gay? Well Idk we will never know who was into boys but rumors has it that Mehmed II , Sulieman the magnificent and Murad IV were probably gay.
Mehmed II kept a young boy called Jacob Notaras for sex. There was also a story with a boy named Radu (later Radu III) that he tried to kiss but Radu managed to climb a tree and escape his fatass.
Sulieman one has to do with Ibrahim pasha. Ibrahim was a beautiful young slave boy that prince sulieman met and was “in love” with. Some say Ibrahim was an eunuch pasha that only married for political shit. Some said they wore each other clothes and were intimate. All this ties to the fact that Ibrahim became the grand vizier untraditionally and was favored. No proof of any intimacy with SS tho..
Murad IV is rumored to be gay too or bisexual for the Musa Celebi thing. It was said they were close and he was murad’s favorite who was brutally murdered and Murad mourned for his death. He called Musa his “beloved” in peoms. Evilya Celebi said he was there with Murad to replace the “beloved” aka Musa.
As I said we will never know if all of these things were true or not. There were definitely homosexual people in the empire (ie, Fatma sultan husband) but it was likely pure pederasty that these old fat men practiced on young fragile boys. Not sure there might be an actual love consensual story we aren’t aware of.
Similar why some characters are aged up like Sultan Ahmed because they ain’t gonna show a 13 years old banging girls of his age, will they?
