Godddddd I'm so upset that I dislike yen this much, doing main quests in skellige and Freyas ppl were doing stuff and she again disrespected other cultures with Geraly being against, "I may be inhumanly beautiful" I know she's meant to be confident but wowww. She's not confident and worried for Ciri she just comes off arrogant and selfish and vain. Like, fuck.

The ultimate mood, anon. My Witcher fandom life would be so much easier if I enjoyed Yen ... but I just do not lol. Remember how I mentioned that things were going to get even worse than her stealing and using a potentially dangerous artifact? Yeeeaah. She also resurrects Ciri's friend to torture him for information, all while destroying another sacred garden to get the power to do it! It's not even a "She's so evil and I love it 😏" situation for me because the game tries so hard to convince us that she's still The Best. Geralt's sexy soulmate, Ciri's adoring mother, the baddest bitch around who gets things done and does it with an effortless confidence... all while ignoring how horrific her actions and attitude are. Oh sure, other characters speak ill of her at times, but considering how much Geralt is written to adore her, no matter what you choose, that's all undermined. I love morally gray/evil characters, but I've never enjoyed them when the text refuses to appropriately acknowledge that side of them. Nothing is more frustrating to me than a story that frames disliking a character as the unambiguously wrong thing to do, especially when the text is piling up reasons to dislike them and, as a result, ignoring or shrugging them off their actions as not that bad. Yen is a rather extreme example of that for me. Despite her attitude, her choices, and other characters outright going, "Why do you like her?" the story as a whole works under the assumption that it's correct to like her anyway because Geralt loves her. And he loves her for... reasons.

They do meet before the wish, but only just. Major "The Last Wish" spoilers in this paragraph, so feel free to skip. Basically, Geralt and Dandelion run into trouble with a djinn, he goes to Yen for help since she's a sorceress (first time meeting her), he instantly falls for her because she's gorgeous and such (there's an elf there who is also madly in love with Yen. Men just... fall for her, instinctually), she heals Dandelion, Geralt agrees to pay her, but Yen has already decided on the payment she wants. She takes control of Geralt's mind and forces him to attack the town to seek revenge on those who have insulted her, resulting in him waking up in prison awaiting execution for "his" crimes. Meanwhile, Yen has gone after the djinn for herself because power/trying to regain her ability to have a kid. Geralt escapes, finds her failing to master the djinn (an attempt which btw has endangered the whole town) and despite what she's done to him, Geralt tries to get Yen to escape with him. She refuses, set on capturing the djinn even though it's obvious she can't. So as a last resort he uses the final wish to bind their fates together, saving Yen from the djinn in the process. Aaaaaand then they have sex.

So yeah, their rocky relationship is one of the main reasons why I can't enjoy Yen. For some their tumultuous history is evidence of realism, for me it's evidence that they're not actually very compatible and they're only together because a) that's the fantasy trope: protagonist men get together with the hot sorceress and b) because the magic is literally ensuring that they can't escape one another. I mean, canonically their fates are tied together by magic and canonically they spend about 20 years swinging between passionate love and fearsome fights... but there's supposedly no connection between these two things? No chance at all that they keep coming together because magic is drawing them rather than because they actually want/should be together? I wrote a meta a while back about the short story where they meet, which includes a present day scene where Geralt is criticized by another character — Nenneke — for running out on Yen. Thing is, he tries to explain that he left because she was "too possessive" and this is... flat out ignored. By both Nenneke and the fandom. There's a strong trend of ignoring Geralt's words in favor of a pro-Yen interpretation of events. He says he left because she was too possessive and she treated him like ____ — he's not allowed to finish the sentence and say what she treated him like because Nenneke interrupts him, saying she doesn't care about his version of events. Major yikes imo! She turns a claim of being possessive into Geralt not being man enough to stick around. The fandom likewise turns this into a case of Geralt getting cold feet and running out because he's a bastard who hates commitment. Likewise, Nenneke and the fandom claim Geralt is trying to get Yen money as a way of appeasing his guilt for leaving, he claims he's doing it simply because he still cares for her — even if he doesn't want to be with her — and knows she needs it. Geralt's words are frequently dismissed, in the same way others characters' opinions of Yen are dismissed. Any mark against her is treated as either a lie, or a convoluted claim that they don't really know her... never mind that an understanding of why she may act this way doesn't excuse the behavior itself. (Plus, the whole "Yen had a horrible upbringing, so of course she struggles being kind" perspective always fell flat to me when so many, including witchers, had horrendous upbringings too. The whole point is this world is a mess and most everyone suffers). It's supposedly true love, yet if someone came up to me and went, "I magically tied my fate to this woman to keep her from getting herself killed and we've spent the last couple decades having what many would term a rocky relationship, to put it kindly. I left once because she was too controlling. She once cheated on me. I likewise hooked up with others during our frequent breakups. A mutual friend used magic to get me to have sex with her — also while my lover and I were broken up — and though I view it as a dumb decision I'm happy to forgive her for, my lover is ready to commit murder because again: possessive. A lot of the time we're only a family because of our daughter. I once thought she'd horrifically betrayed us both. She didn't, but it says something that I was so ready to believe it, huh? Hmm? Permanently separated? Of course not! I love her. We're destined to be together after all :)" I'd be like, "Uh... you sure about that, dude?"

Not that Geralt doesn't make his fair share of mistakes in the relationship — he absolutely does — but I don't think it helps his case that he's immature in other ways and, frankly, that he's a very strong, badass witcher. It's easy to turn the hints we get about their relationship into a simplistic "emotionally naive man can't give the poor woman the commitment she wants" situation. Given Geralt's status as the badass fighter of the tale, it's likewise easy to dismiss his admissions of her being "possessive" and his general discomfort. He's the man. He's the witcher. If he's making any claims about how Yen isn't treating him well, they must be excuses, or exaggerations, because real men, especially physically powerful men, would do something about that — a something that's not sneaking out in the middle of the night. A lot of people read Geralt leaving as the ultimate proof that he's an immature bastard who doesn't deserve her. I read him leaving and think, "What were you trying to get away from? What was going on that made you think you could only leave by sneaking out without a word?" To me, that doesn't read as someone who felt safe, comfortable, and respected enough to do anything but slip away and try to wash his hands of things. And I'm not just pulling this "Geralt is at least somewhat afraid of Yen and isn't comfortable establishing boundaries with her" reading out of my ass. When Yen wants Geralt to kill the golden dragon for her and he refuses, saying he doesn't care anymore, his thoughts are:

He expected the worst: a cascade of flames, flashes of lightning, blows raining down on his face, insults and curses. There was nothing. He saw, with astonishment, only the subtle trembling of her lips. Yennefer turned around slowly. Geralt regretted his words.

And everyone is like, "See! Yen has improved so much. Geralt nearly made her cry, but she's supposed to be the bad guy here?" Meanwhile, I'm going, "Uh... anyone want to unpack why he expects fire, lightning, insults, curses, and blows to his face for telling her no? Why he's astonished that she wouldn't use her magic against him? Anyone think that Yen refraining from attacking Geralt when he refuses to murder on her command is a pretty low bar? No? Just me?"

Geralt and Yen's relationship makes me uncomfortable and a great deal of that discomfort derives from how much of the Witcher fandom shrugs off the fictional warning signs. I mean, I post primarily about RWBY. We watched a man in that show try to sneak away with his kids when his villainous wife planned to use them for a eugenics plan... and the fandom still blames him for that, refusing to admit that he was in an abusive relationship. Because that doesn't happen to men, right? I'm not saying it's the same for Geralt and Yen, simply because they are written to be soulmates. An abusive relationship was, quite obviously, never the authorial intent. However, I am saying that the a "This isn't a healthy relationship" reading is there, it exists as an interpretation, and both the story and fandom's tendency to dismiss it is something that hasn't helped me enjoy Yen's status as an otherwise well written, complex character. Their equality supposedly stems in part because they're both so flawed, yet each time I see a list of Geralt's supposedly equal faults they're... lacking imo. "Geralt bound himself to Yen without her consent." Yeah, to save her from dying from the djinn she was trying to enslave, after she refused to leave, while her actions threatened a whole town. "Geralt ran off without a word." Mmm hmm, anyone care about why? And my personal favorite is a scene you may not have gotten to yet (or may not get depending on your choices), but suffice to say, Yen is supposedly justified in physically attacking Geralt if he dares to challenge her in any way. That's the main takeaway across the fandom: If Yen is pissed off, you must have done something to deserve it which, in the relationship deliberately written to be "stormy," is something that sets all the alarm bells in my head off. Honestly, it kinda makes my skin crawl to go, "Geralt didn't deserve that" and get responses back of, "Yeah he did because he [insert basic human action here]." The Witcher world is hard and cruel, absolutely, but that doesn't mean I personally enjoy seeing an equally messed up relationship presented as something that's enviable in its flaws. "That's actually true love because the magically bound man who often expresses discomfort with his lover, written by a male author with a very iffy perspective on women, says it's true love." Crazy theory here, but... maybe it's not?

Idk, lots of rambling on my end tonight! For me, Geralt/Yen reads as something rather tragic which, in a canon that unironically upholds the relationship, and in a Yen-adoring fandom, doesn't make enjoying her character any easier. I keep coming back to Witcher 3, the comics, the show, even the books going, "Maybe I'll like her this time?" but nope, still trying lol.

1. Lemon Blossoms 🍋

Personally I really like the atmosphere of this fic, it’s wintery and warm and very lemon-y? I like the way the story flows, the way scenes and time change without breaks or feeling choppy, like it’s all one river. And I remember writing this fic, sitting on my bed and having no idea at all how to start, and I was for some reason obsessed with lemons at the time so I just started. Writing lemons. And the rest of the story came, just like that. It was so different from what I imagined or mentally jotted down notes and outlined for this fic, it’s like I just tossed all that away (haha) but the end result is so unexpected and so perfect for the story, I realized it was the one I wanted to tell all along. A lot of ppl also left comments saying they crave something lemon-y after reading this, which I consider a success haha

2. To the Rhythm of the Waves

I saw a text post once saying how when you’re trying to write, your brain doesn’t give you a story, instead it just. Gives you an aesthetic, an atmosphere and chucks it at you and tells you to work with it!! (The post said it much funnier than I did, gosh I loved that post.) But the point is, that’s like my brain 99% of the time. And I don’t think I’ve ever really, really centered a story around conveying an aesthetic/atmosphere until this fic. There is, like, minimal plot, but I think what I wanted to create was there: a very soft, faint, tender sweetness. It’s about finding homes and living very simply but happily. In the process of writing it there was a lot of feeling around, trying to find the road this story is leading, trying to find the pieces that would build up this atmosphere, but a lot of it came from within, like from a single place? So the story feels whole, I think. And I’ve gone back to reread it a couple times, but every time I get something different out, so. Haha

3. This drabble

This was super short but I loved it. I had to have typed it out within fifteen or twenty minutes and it just feels right. I liked the Draco in that drabble, and I liked the brief glimpse of perhaps a late evening in a dark room, and I liked the idea of their names. I liked that Harry was so indulgent when Draco was all panicky and hard on himself, when he didn’t expect kindness and softness but Harry gave it to him anyway, because it’s Harry. Because adoration, because love. Just a tiny piece I played with and I liked the result

4. In Your Voice

I don’t know if anyone could tell but I wrote this with so much yearning, like, god. Quarantine was first getting to me at that time, I think. And I remember reading about this article then that talked about the death of landlines (!!) in literature (which was super interesting!), and seeing that idea of having a piece of someone, but not the whole of them. You have their voice, but not their solid presence. They are here, but at the same time they’re not. Having a companion partially, not so completely, which comforts some part of you but makes other parts lonelier. I just liked the idea that Draco and Harry only have each other’s voice, I tried to convey that through their phone call, that it’s the only thing they have of each other. And it’s enough, but at the same time it’s not enough. They want so much more, but they can’t get it. That physical restraint brings out emotional chaos, I think. Looking back now I’m a bit embarrassed about the part where Harry says he misses Draco, it’s kind of cheesy haha. But overall I liked it. I also received a lot of comments saying this feels like home, this feels like longing, a lot of people relating to this and hopefully this brought them comfort, which I am really glad about.

5. Prompt: I love you - Over a cup of tea

This is one where I didn’t expect it to have as many notes, but it did, and I tried to think about why, so I read it and reread it, and I think in that process I came to like it. It’s a small piece that delineates Draco’s journey to learn to say I love you through cups of tea. I tried to put in the story the idea that even though at the beginning Draco can’t say the words, and he feels lacking and guilty about it, he does say i love you—through actions, through small gestures. It was the language he spoke. And I like to think that the reason why Harry was so patient and understanding was because he understood that. He knew how Draco spoke his heart, and he accepted it. And he didn’t, like, wait for Draco to say I love you; that acceptance wasn’t a means to an end. Instead he embraces and loves who Draco is, and when Draco says the words they’re more like an unexpected surprise that made him really happy, because it means Draco feels safe around him now, it means Draco feels secure enough about what they share that he is willing to bear his heart out like that. Just, subtle languages, man.

(May I also take this chance to rec Cibee’s wonderful drabble responding to the same prompt, which is the prettiest thing I have ever read in this world!!!)

This didn’t get as many notes but I was proud of it. I liked the way I threaded the flashbacks to the present. I wonder whether I would do it differently if I have the chance to rewrite it, but I like it now.

Hello fandom my old friend

I’m being stalked again. I tend to get stalked. It’s sort of a thing with me. A friend once said I wasn’t like crazycake flypaper--that I was more like a Venus flytrap so stalkers beware. True, I’m not to be messed with. That still doesn’t mean I don’t freak out.

The WBDS fandom was pretty quiet these past six years given the noise of my previous fandoms--in which the highest pitch involved the FBI addressing threats to moi (twice). But (twice) in the WBDS fandom I’ve run across people who’ve made my skin crawl--one loves me too much; the other is a sworn enemy. In the past three months, my Instagram has been hacked three (more?) times, and my humble posts (I have a following of less than a 100 ppl--mostly kdrama fans) keep being reported for inappropriate content and taken down. One post I didn’t question--it had a link in the text to a story which IN TURN had a hidden link in a note to M-rated material. But the other reports were just WHACK, like a photo of a guy licking his sword (ok, Insta, that’s so suggestive... but what if it was a hot girl eating a banana?) The last post taken down was a drawing of mine of a guy on a horse, and the story was innocuous--the fic even had a damn puppy in it, ok? Well, a crazy man committed suicide in it, but THAT WAS ALL A PIECE OF FICTION? WAS THAT INSTA-INAPPROPRIATE? Geez, I reposted it all, and I wished whoever was harassing me a Merry Holidays and gave them some pearls to clutch.

I get uncomfortable the more “known” I get in fandom too. More people love me, more people hate me. Someone on Reddit named my current WIP as one of “the greatest fanfics of all time” in a thread, and I was like, duuuuuude, what are you smoking? I’ve been around a while, and off the top of my head, I can think of a gazillion fics way better than my current UNFINISHED fic. The only one allowed to love me and my work that much is my fandom wife. Oh, she got hit one story hit by the kudos bot (I got one story hit too--this is a crazy bot--it’s not a webcrawler--it’s SENTIENT--it hit a lot of people who posted stories in a small fandom thread on Reddit--it READS Reddit). Since Wifey’s story was hit, she put up a disclaimer saying please ignore those fake 70 kudos (however many--I got about the same number on my GREATEST FIC OF ALL TIME, lol, and I put up a similar I hate you kudos bot note). But weirdly, people have not been leaving kudos OR comments for Wifey since she put up disclaimer... it’s like kudo bot nervousness on the part of readers? What has this bot done to us all? (Wifey did get a hilarious comment from anon calling themselves NOTABOT on another story though who left a heart emoji :D).

I feel on pins and needles right now.

I want to share stories with people and have people like the stories. I don’t like fandom stalkers, haters, kudos bots, weird persistent downvoters for every comment I make on Reddit, mad love like people saying my fic is one of the greatest of all time loooool, or that one poor woman who still wants to have my babies or something after 4 years (and we weren’t even dating, I swear). I don’t know who keeps harassing me on Insta. Maybe the same person who told me to kill myself for writing rape fic a few months ago--I mean, why target me? So many other writers out there in way bigger fandoms writing way darker rapefics?

Which one of you two was it? Or is there a third now? A fourth, fifth, sixth Debbie-hater?

Brrrrrrrrr.

My friends say I eat these people and get stronger--they’ve seen it happen. But you know how painful it is to digest hate?

Anyway, Wifey’s story is amazing and getting so little attention. It takes a wonderful (terrible) canon time (when Dong-soo was literally insane for a couple months and unable to speak after being betrayed by Woon) and fills in a lot of plot-holes by having us go into Dong-soo reputed genius mind as he hallucinates Woon. It’s brilliant. It’s here:

Weakness

Speaking of which, I need a very long nap. And I’m envying my cat’s lickable protein snacks. I may order ice cream. Can people get ice cream delivered? I don’t even like ice cream. Soy cream? Can I get a vegetarian drone from a supermarket to drop me off some soy milk cream sandwiches? And a cabana boy with a drink with an umbrella?

Since I seem to be in a really positive mood today and even though this show clearly doesn't deserve this post here's my list of favorite skam france s6 clips:

Samedi 07:52 The day after ep1: I really really loved the first clip of the season a lot more than the trailer and I think that it was such a great introduction to Lola's pov. We really saw the world through her eyes in such a special way in that moment n I loved all the hints to the plot (same sex couple walking down the street and being viewed as completely normal> w|w storyline with no internalized homophobia; the raccon tag > foreshadowing for otteli and urbex plot; lola photographing broken things > insight into lola's feelings) The cinematography and use of pov was a masterpiece in this one.

Lundi 7:43 Tiff ep1: This one is just here for the grew being the most supportive and loving friend group, skipping classes together to take care of Daphné and that group hug <33 need I say more?? No. Every clip with the grew is gonna be on this list because the little screen time they had this season needs to be honoured. I'm sorry that they did you so dirty babes:((

Mercredi 13:03 Fuck the planet ep1: my absolute favorite mayla clip this season!! one of my absolute favorite clips in general!! I still remember the day when they dropped that clip and I got so excited for this season again. Maya being a climate activist and such a warm and lovely person I immediately fell in love with her. Maya looking at Lola as if she's a princess walking down the stairs to a ball in some fairy tale. Maya not letting Lola's cold remarks throw her off n replying with equal sass instead, Maya's iconic coming out line and Lola smiling for the first time all season!! That clip was really off the charts

Vendredi 16:43 Someone exceptional ep1: This is my absolute favorite clip of the whole season and the amount of times I've rewatched this is actually unhealthy. Something just clicked and for the first time I felt really connected with Lola and felt and understood her pain (probs to Flavie she was amazing here) I loved the lil details abt this clip: Lucas playing the piano, le grew all hugging Daphné, Daphné's speech and break down (lula was amazing here too I really really felt connected to Daphné in that moment), Eliott and Lola meeting for the first time (their best clip this season, gosh the potential they had to actually develop such a cool and beautiful sibling relationship with them and then they did.... whatever the rest of their storyline was), Lola trying so hard to read Daphné's speech and then holding her own instead because she so desperately needs to get this off her chest and make ppl understand her and last but not least the cinematic shots of her running out of the church and breaking down. Truly my favorite clip.

Mercredi 12:56 You don't know me ep2: my second favorite mayla clip and hell did I love their dynamic and chemistry in this one. The community service clips were so so special and gave them such unique vibes I'm so sad that the rest of their storyline really couldn't live up to that because the beginning really was breathtaking and I was so here for their storyline and really believed that I would get the w|w rep I deserve this season. Rip

Jeudi 19:33 Sorry ep2: Daphné and Lola finally warming up to eachother, both of them apologizing, Lola saying that she can make dinner and they can watch one of Daphné's favorite tv shows together. Baby steps. Also Daphné grieving and smelling her mother's shirt to find comfort. Such an important clip!!

Vendredi 22:22 Otteli ep2: Again the opening shots and cinematography of this clip!! Lola meeting la mif for the first time and I was completely buying their found family dynamic from the start, maya and lola being 👀 the entire time and last but not least Eliott being introduced as urbex legend n royalty,, the wasted potential of that storyline tho...

Samedi 6:43 An awesome party ep3: again maya's and lola's chemistry in this one and their first real and deep conversation, maya opening up about her parents and how she found a home and family in la mif, their smiles and laughs and lola replying to Daphné's text messages because that's growth baby!

Lundi 7:53 The slap ep3: again just here for le grew, the way they all pulled daphné in for a group hug I'm cryinnn. Also Lucas telling the people who were gossiping abt Lola to turn around and mind their own business, dare I say iconic. the way we could have had it all this season and then skamfr decided to make them enemies. Hate it here

Samedi 13:18 Hangover ep4: this clip being a parallel to the beginning of ep2, we all believed that Lola went out and slept with another stranger and would feel lost and overwhelmed again and then! we and she found out that she's at maya's n instead of being lost again she completely openes up to Maya abt her life and Maya just holds her and Lola clings onto her as if her life depends on it and finds comfort in Maya. Still crying about this one

Mardi 21:43 You want to talk about it? ep4: I would be lying if I didn't tell you that I've rewatched this clip countless of times simply because seeing Eliott so happy and excited at his workplace has me feeling some type of way. I liked his and Lola's general dynamic in this one my main problem is just that it was so damn underdeveloped and came out of nowhere. Skam france you're a transmedia show text messages would have really helped you bby!!

Samedi 14:23 Luquette ep5: ohh out of all the clips with Eliott in it this one's definitely my favorite (and also one of the only ones I liked) both Eliott and Lola getting to speak for themself abt their mental health, seeing Eliott's development going from being ashamed and hiding his mental illness to now being so open about it and giving others advice, them talking about Eliott's Lucas and Lola's Luquette (🥺) Eliott being ready to run from Daphné with Lola and Lola saying that she's gonna take responsibility and Eliott looking like a proud big brother > the only clip with sibling vibes of them this season

Samedi 17:36 Just a girl ep5: Daphné and Lola reconciling, Daphné wanting to buy Lola picture frames and not letting that go even tho they have so little money and she sorts other stuff out instead. Please their sister bond this season has my heart. And also Maya and Lola at that supermarket gay panic energy at its finest. I loved that clip and that even after what happened last Friday Maya is still such a warm and loving person in that clip. Ugh why did they had to ruin her character later that season??☹

Mercredi 18:49 I miss you ep5: in case y'all are wondering if I'm just gonna put every single mayla clip on that list- don't worry this one is gonna be the last in a while. Anyway back to the good old days lamifex hanging all out together and being literal children together <33 mayla finally getting to talk and Maya explaining herself, showing Lola her scars and telling her that she misses her when she's not around. My heart combusted watching that clip

Lundi 12:35 We are even ep6: le grew studying together!! especially lucas and imane!!!! screaming. the only time we ever got to see them preparing for the bac but at least we have this one clip. Basile and Lola sibling dynamic and also the clip confirming that Daphné indeed has an eating disorder and Lola beginning to be really worried about her

Mercredi 18:27 I don't know what you're looking for ep6: Lola finding out about Daphné's eating disorder and finding proof in her room, Daphné freaking out and the last shots of her trying so hard not to fall apart, lula's acting in this scene!! It was all so realistic it truly is one of the top ten clips too

Dimanche 18:32 Freesias ep8: for me this one was the true full cycle moment this season. The Lecomte family visiting their mum on mother's day, Lola revealing that she does know her favorite flowers and that her mum used to sent them to her along with letters she never read, Lola saying that if she could she might read them now but it's too late for that and in some kind of way she was making peace with her mum and everything that happened between them. Daphné taking the umbrella so Thierry can pull Lola close and them just standing in the rain and healing n growing as a family!! This clip was so emotional and important and skamfr had the audacity to destroy all that development with Thierry for useless drama. I'm endlessly bitter

Mardi 18:03 Vital prognosis ep8: just daphné, basile, lola and maya being a happy lil family together. This clip was so peaceful and beautiful to watch every time ep9 ruined my mood I went back to this clip to cheer myself up again. Really wish we could have seen more of them together and maya and lola as a couple

Vendredi 23:04 Emergency ep10: okay so I really didn't like that skamfr switched povs to build up suspense and was actually just triggering for many of us. But I just wanna say Lula's acting!!! The way she said "But how do you know we're going to find her, Lucas? Putain! She has never left a note before this is the first time for all we know" truly her acting!! I rewatched that clip so many times for that line alone (until I realized that the storyline was actually really triggering for me so I haven't watched the clip ever since but still)

Samedi 01:06 Sisters ep10: still hate the storyline and that it was done in episode 10 but I'm sooo glad that Daphné went to talk to Lola alone, that Daphné tells her that she's always loved her and basically everything they said in that clip!! Really moving and emotional one of the only clips that really made me cry this season. Again I live for Flavie's and Lula's acting

Mercredi 16:38 Beep beep beep ep10: even tho the mayla storyline was in context of the season really lacking depth at this point, watching this clip ignoring the context really was a cultural reset. One thing I love abt skam france is just that they let lgbt people live their lives without having homophobia being thrown at them left and right so kissing your gf in the middle of the supermarket like that might not be realistic but I don't care!!!!! let the gays live their life and kiss in the supermarket!!! thanks!! also that song especially the lyrics "darling I won't let you go" thoughts are being thunk💌

And yeah basically that's it. As yall may notice I loved the first half of the season way more than the second half and I feel like there was so much wasted potential and important storylines left unaddressed because they wanted to throw in more drama....

This is kinda hilarious in its own right but I remember seeing a post once where someone made an analogy about seeing fandom drama they're not aware of and stuff is like them playing in a small sandbox with a couple of their friends and when they look up, students are throwing shit at each other and the building is on fire and ever since then I have not stopped thinking abt this analogy

It is such a Twst-esque experience for me, because every now and then, I'd go to someone's blog to check their tags on their reblog for my post or sumn, and I'd be a little bored and scroll thru their blog in a totally non creepy way and then occasionally I'd see posts like

And I'd just be like *pikachu meme face* idk where the fuck you guys have been but this fandom has genuinely been one of the most supportive fandoms I've been in, although I mainly lurk on twitter I still post daily here, and theres been a few bad apples but none that I have not immediately blocked so clearly there is sumn up with our experiences here

I think the key is to simply curate your own experience...like...idk abt you but the moment I find an environment toxic or tiring in any way I get the fuck out, I'm sorry to all my friends in that fandom or space or whatever but if you're my friend in name and yet I still feel uncomfortable when ur there ur probably part of the problem goodbye haha!!

You have to set limits for urself, like if someone has hurt me or made me uncomfortable once, I don't bother talking much to them again if I can help it. People on the internet are all doing their own thing, and sometimes them just being themselves is not something you will vibe with and that is ok. That is not their fault or your fault, but you can choose to not engage with them.

PSA you dont have to be mean for someone to block you or dislike you, half my block list are literally ppl who whose opinions or habits I dont agree with. Artist tags Riddle on an Azul post? Block. Writer puts too much text and doesnt use Read More? Block. Someone makes a slightly creepy comment and I know that we will never cross paths if I dont say anything to them first? Block anyways. Even after I've moved onto another fandom and forgotten why I've blocked them, I keep them blocked.

There's many things to be stressed abt and fandom drama is just not one of them. I feel like everyone has the need to reply to something that bothers them and its tempting to get your shit out there but also it's kinda ur fault when things go south tbh, because they never asked for ur opinion (even IF their post is something you consider morally wrong. If they're a disgusting person to you, all the more reason you should block. By engaging them and making callout posts for them to help others, what kinda savior complex do you even have...). Whenever I see posts I get angry about, I never respond to it. I seethe on my private accs or rant on it in a separate post, and I DON'T tag it so it never reaches the fandom. It is what it is, a passing moment of anger about a 2D character.

At first I started this as a tiny musing but then it got long...oops. Anyways my point isnt to attack any of you guys for doing any of the above, I'm just saying that you seem like you're going through a tough time, it's not mentally good for you, and you should curate your own experience instead of delve yourself deeper into the drama. You're never responsible for someone else's happiness (OR their "cancellation" lmao) so please do yourself a favor and just stay away from it. I promise the twst fandom can be a lovely experience if you just Did Not Bother

a short(er) twilight-themed guide to my dissertation on memes

for anyone who wants to know why and how i wrote 8k words of academic theory on memes, but doesn’t actually want to read 8k words of academic theory on memes

so to begin with, a meme is really hard to define. this part is pretty boring if you don’t care about linguistics, so just take my word for it. i ask a lot of questions like “is a meme still a meme if” (no one shares it, no one makes different versions of it, there’s no standard format for it) and the answer is “sometimes! but we can’t tell you when!” and i also ask “how do you know when you’re looking at a meme?” to which the answer is “you just do! except when you don’t. that happens too.”

so basically, memes are like porn, you know them when you see them

then i talk about why it’s hard to study memes. this is fairly obvious if you think about it. imagine trying to find out the source of a random meme. and then every iteration of that meme anyone has ever made. then how popular each iteration got. how one iteration inspired another. how many times each iteration is reposted by someone else without credit. THEN, attempt to do that for every meme in existence. actually, just try and get a definitive count of how many memes exist. then, realizing that’s impossible, attempt to choose a “random” selection of memes to study not influenced by your personal online world. attempt to study memes that you don’t even know exist bc they don’t exist within your highly-customized online world. basically, memes are a rabbit hole and i don’t even pretend to do any sort of formal semi-comprehensive study, because i do not hate myself.

ok, moving on. i’m actually trying to write this post based on what I remember from my dissertation, which i haven’t reread in... a while. but i like to think i have a fairly good grasp of it bc i wrote it.

so basically the most important part about memes is that they function on at least 2 levels. let’s say there’s an active level and a passive level. the active level is the conversation you THINK you’re having when engaging with a meme. the clearly stated point/idea of the meme. the passive level is all the assumptions a meme is making in the background that, if you are not actively challenging, you are endorsing.

let’s see some examples.

this is a meme *i* made, so i’m gonna put myself on blast here

So the active level of this meme is the text/the point i’m trying to make, which is basically that bella is horny. but like, so horny that she’s willing to throw everything else in her life under the bus for some sexual satisfaction. i feel like this is fairly clear and most people interacting with the meme would consider that what the meme is about. we’re having a conversation about bella’s insatiable thirst for sparkling penis when we engage with this meme.

sort of an in-between level that provides us with further information about the point i’m trying to make is context for the meme/meme format. this meme format is about someone choosing between a good thing and a bad thing. they’ve got the good thing, but they’re tempted by/indulging in the bad thing anyway. it’s fairly reasonable to come to the conclusion that i’m judging bella, when you combine the meme context with the actual text. i’m not only interpreting bella’s behavior here (she eschews her loved ones for sexual gratification), i’m also giving it moral value, labeling yeeting herself onto that dick = bad, building/maintaining relationships with friends and family = good. however, if you’re not familiar with this meme and it’s format, the fact that i’m throwing shade at bella is less clear, even if you understand how i’m interpreting her behavior.

now on to the passive level of the meme. this meme makes some ASSUMPTIONS, and in engaging with the meme you’re validating those assumptions as “how this thing is/how the world works”. so here are a FEW of the assumptions this meme makes: 1. this is a man with his girlfriend checking out another girl. 2. the girlfriend is angry/jealous of her boyfriend expressing interest in another woman 3. everyone in this photo is heterosexual 4. men are always checking out other women/otherwise unfaithful, and this is normal/funny 5. this “couple” is monogamous 6. the “boyfriend” is relatable and we understand and condone his actions 7. maintaining a relationship with the “girlfriend” is a good decision and pursuing the girl in red would be a bad one

these assumptions might seem fairly clear, obvious, and straightforward, but they are ultimately, assumptions. we know NOTHING about the people in this photo and are projecting relationships on them. and clearly, we’re projecting some pretty intense gender and relationship roles on to them. and it’s necessary to accept those gender and relationship roles as “truth” long enough to understand the meme, because otherwise the meme wouldn’t make any sense, because the person who made it (me) made it with the understanding that you would be operating with the same set of assumptions about these people and their relationships as I am. understanding of what i’m trying to say with this meme is dependent on understanding and accepting the assumptions i’m handing you with it.

and again, these ARE assumptions. take away the text, and there could be plenty of things going on in this photo. it’s possible none of these people are in romantic relationships, and this is a guy with his friend/family member, and they like to hold hands. this guy could be whistling at a dog he sees on the sidewalk because he wants to pet it, and the girl in blue is mad because they’re in a hurry. the girl in red could be his ACTUAL girlfriend, whose self esteem he’s boosting, and the girl in blue could be some random girl who wants his attention. this could be a couple in an open relationship, but the girlfriend is in the middle of an argument with this guy about something else. the guy could have shoulder checked the girl in red and is looking back to say sorry, and the girl in blue is mad bc shoulder checking this poor girl was a rude af thing to do.

the reason why we don’t think any of those things ^^ upon seeing this meme is bc we live in the patriarchy. however, unfortunately, by sharing this meme uncritically, we’re also reinforcing the passive ideas within it, that men are unfaithful and it’s no big deal, that women are always competing with each other, that heterosexuality and monogamy are standard and correct.

let’s look at another meme.

i didn’t make this one, i found it on a really cringy list of (old) twilight memes

active level of this meme: kristen stewart never smiles

in-between context level: this is the “most interesting man in the world” meme, where, bc he’s so interesting, he rarely has time to do normal things, and when he does them, he does them in a weird way. so according to this meme, kristen rarely smiles, and when she does, she does it in a weird way

passive level: kristen stewart SHOULD smile, and the fact that she doesn’t is weird/bad. WHY she doesn’t smile, and WHY she should, is left to viewer interpretation, but the implication is she’s doing something wrong. this meme wants you to fill in the blanks with the idea that kristen stewart is a bad actress because she doesn’t smile. it also reinforces the idea that women are SUPPOSED to smile and not be serious all the time. you could even go so far as to assume this meme is condemning bella’s character as a whole for being overdramatic and not smiling, playing into the narrative that women are hysterical and get upset about things that aren’t a big deal, and we shouldn’t take them seriously. personally, i think kristen’s acting in twilight was spot-on and super nuanced, and it was true to bella’s character that she didn’t smile often. i also think that kristen as a person smiles a reasonable amount and is only criticized for not smiling bc ppl so heavily associate her with bella. but if i were to share this meme uncritically, i wouldn’t just be reaffirming the (false) idea that kristen stewart doesn’t smile, i would also be reinforcing the idea that women SHOULD smile all the time, kristen is a bad actress, and bella is a bad character. i could go further into the sexism of all that but this is already long.

HOW DID I GET AWAY WITH WRITING ABOUT THIS FOR MY MASTERS DEGREE??

basically, while you think you’re engaging in a conversation on one level with memes, you’re actually engaging in a lot of conversations. when it comes to political memes, often the “passive” levels of the memes come with a lot of ideas about how the world is or should work, which you reinforce when engaging with those memes. these passive assumptions shape the conversations we’re having, and the kind of policies we’re willing to support. memes come encoded with opinions on gender, relationships, race, sexuality, class, etc, and and make declarations about how these things DO or SHOULD work, shaping our own personal understanding of them. a meme that makes donald trump look stupid is advocating for different policies/political decisions than one that makes him look dangerous. and if all of our memes about trump focus on him looking stupid, we put more political effort into addressing that problem than the problem that he’s dangerous. memes can be used to challenge norms/question widely accepted ideas (here’s an example i literally just made):

but they can also be used to help people internalize ideas/messages that they wouldn’t be willing to accept uncritically if those ideas were presented in a different format. sometimes this is good, if you use memes to help people internalize good messages, like self-love. however, unfortunately in recent years this has mostly been used to radicalize lonely men, who internalize increasingly more hateful assumptions in memes and don’t realize that they’re doing it, because those messages are not explicit. just look at how pepe became a hate symbol. if you laugh at enough memes that operate on the assumption that women are sluts, you’re gonna start believing women are sluts, and are gonna be more likely to laugh at memes that imply that women are bad because they’re slutty, then that since they’re bad they don’t deserve rights, etc.

basically, memes shape our understanding of how the world works because they make assumptions about how the world works that we have to agree with in order to understand the meme. when these assumptions involve identities or politics, they affect how we understand those things, and what conversations we have about them.

and that’s basically my dissertation on memes, minus a lot of other discussions about pop culture, humor, and group formation.

Honestly, I think it’s ridiculous that people are accusing you of sounding mean/rude etc. sometimes I think you’re still too nice to the rude anons and I feel like a lot of this is passive aggressive on their part. They come at you because they think you’re an ‘insider’ fan and they’re jealous, and if you come back defensively, then they accuse you of being rude blah blah blah. If these people are making your experience on tumblr a negative one then just ignore those asks and enjoy yourself bb!

Hmm idk I mean it wouldn’t cross my mind to go after someone because they know some things I don’t? So they probably have a point somewhere in telling me I should be kinder, I know I can be short when I answers asks because I get so many and sometimes the same ones every other day so it gets a bit tiring...

Yeah it’s true, I do get defensive when I’m more tired. Sometimes when I need to vent, I read my inbox outloud to a friend - the asks I don’t publish I mean - and it helps but sometimes I don’t have anyone next to me to do that with so I get cranky when I see people prying into the cast’s lives, asking personal questions, things like that. The thing is, I can’t say for now how I’ve come to know some stuff because it would spoil way too much and I don’t know if I’ll even be able to ever. I’m not really “in”, that’s the thing. I am a normal fan, as normal as a fan who’s lucky enough to live in Paris and who could go to a lot of events - and that’s a couple hundreds of us. I don’t know how much the international fandom is aware of that but David and Niels and the cast know hundreds of us by name just because we were lucky enough to meet them several times. I’m not really more “in” than those other people. Some from the cast have not a clue who I am at all and others only know my @ on instagram because I send them the pics. I’m a bit closer to some for reasons I can’t talk about. The team got a lot of complaints about everything always happening in Paris and some fans ending up being more priviledged than others. I’m hoping there will be more events outside of Paris, maybe screenings or something in the future so it doesn’t feel as ~Parisian elite~ as last year.

I think you’ve always been receptive when people came to you with a different opinion and from what I saw, you’re always willing to learn. Some people are just too entitled and come barging in and that’s when you raise you hackles. It’s not really on you, it’s hard to be kind to everyone when people don’t always deserve it.

Hmmm yeah, my friends have told me I have strong opinions and don’t change my mind easily so... idk. I could maybe be more receptive, like you said, at times. I went from getting one ask every six months to dozens a day in a few weeks last year and it still blows my mind. I wasn’t ready for that. There must be people who disagree with me in my followers. I’m gonna say something I haven’t really shared in details before but it’s weighting on me. Some anons are really creepy, so I don’t publish them. For exemple, somebody found my spotify recently and through it found my old Facebook. My friends have sent me screenshots of people following them on their instagram after being tagged in my stories and they are always Skam stans, even when my friends have never posted about anything Skam related. Someone once went digging into my personal life so far that they could have ruined the theme of season 5 in september if they had decided to make what they had found public instead of sending me an ask about it. That shit is not okay. I blew up about this once last year and somebody told me “why do you make it sounds like we’re creepy fans of yours” and well, because some stuff IS creepy. I understand being curious but I will never share anything about the personal lives of the cast or anything that could spoil the seasons so I’d just like it if people stopped asking, you know? "Oh my God, there is so many people here!" Casey yelled, trying to be heard over the music

The party was pack with people, mostly youtubers, jumping around, dancing, and drinking. We had only just got through the door, only to realize we had no idea where Brennen, Colby, or anyone we know was at.

"Let's go make our drinks first." I yelled back, pulling Casey towards the kitchen.

We reached the kitchen, grabbing some red solo cups. Casey grabbed the vodka bottle out of my hand, pouring some into her cup and then taking a quick swig from the bottle.

"Stop! I don't want your germs in my drink!" I smirked, shoving her lightly.

She flipped me off, grabbing a bottle of soda from the counter and pouring it into her cup. I took the vodka bottle, repeating her actions.

"Hurry up and make your drink so we can dance." She stated, grabbing my hand the second my drink was made. We walked towards the living room, the place where everyone was dancing.

We slowly start dancing, swaying our hips back and forth, taking sips from our drinks every so often. The music was thumping loudly, making everything vibrate. I closed my eyes, reaching my hands up, getting lost in the music.

Casey grabbed one of my wrists, pulling me close. "Oh my God, don't look now, but Travis Marcus is sitting on the couch behind you."

I cocked my head to the side, "Who the hell is Travis Marcus?"

I turned my head, looking towards the couch. On it sat Travis, brown quaffed hair and dark eyes. Dressed in all black, he was whispering to one of his friends on the couch, looking over at me and Casey.

"He has almost a million followers. He mostly does challenges, vlogs, and other stuff on his channel, but every so often he comes out with a cover of a song that blows up." She stated matter-of-factly.

"Is he any good... singing wise?" I questioned.

"Ehh, could be better. There was one cover that was fucking amazing though." She beamed.

I smirked, turning back towards her, "Are you a fan?"

She rolled her eyes. "No, but I do watch him from time to time. I mostly watch him because he's hot."

I snorted, turning back towards the couch. Travis stood up and started heading over to us. I quickly looked at Casey, "He must know we're talking about him because he's coming over right now."

Casey's eyes widen, looking up above my head. I turned to see Travis standing right in front of me. He's taller than I imagined.

He's like the same size as Colby. Skinnier though.

"Hey, I saw you dancing over here and I wanted to introduce myself." He smiled, looking me directly in the eyes, "You probably know who I am. I'm Travis Marcus."

I smiled, holding back my eye roll. "No, I don't know who you are. But, it's nice to meet you Travis."

Casey whispered to me, "I'm gonna go to the bathroom. I'll be back when he's done eye-fucking you."

I glared at her quickly as she scurried away. I laughed looking back at Travis, "Sorry my friend left so quickly."

He smirked lightly, "It's no problem. I wanted to talk to you anyway."

I stared up at him. "Oh? Why's that?"

"Because you're different from all the other girls at this party." He stepped closer, whispering into my ear. He placed a hand on my hip.

"How am I different?" I asked.

I could see his friend come up to us, a vlog camera in his hand. It was pointed at us. I tried not to look at it.

Travis glanced to the camera, nodded at it, and turned back to me "Well, I'm just surprised by you."

I started. "I don't underst-"

"I'm surprised they allow fat people in LA. I thought this was a no fat girl zone. I guess I was wrong." He laughed, turning towards his friend and giving him a handshake. His friend was smiling too.

What. The. Fuck.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I glared up at him.

"What's the matter? It's just a fact. Maybe lose some weight and people won't judge you." He shrugged, smirking.

I shook my head, dumbfounded. "Unbelievable... Go fuck yourself."

I turned my back to him and walked away, heading towards the kitchen. It was the only spot in the house a lot of people weren't at. I sighed, annoyed. I grabbed mine and Casey's bottle of vodka, pouring more into my drink.

This is gonna be a long fucking night.

"Baby!" I heard yelled my way. I turned around to see Brennen and Colby walking up to me. Brennen had his arms opened to me. He came up and pulled me in, giving me a big hug.

"Hi Brennen." I mumbled against his shoulder.

"I was wondering if you were here! We saw Casey a couple minutes ago. We've been here a while!" Brennen yelled again.

I turned to Colby, giving him a hug as well. He smiled down at me. "Yeah. I haven't seen you in a bit."

"A good couple hours." I replied, slightly smirking.

He glanced away, his face somewhat flushed. Brennen lightly grabbed my wrist. "Um babe, pay attention to meeeee."

"How drunk are you?" I laughed.

He and Colby look at each other and drunkenly giggled. "We may have had one too many. But who cares it's the weekend!"

"It's Tuesday." I stated, shaking my head.

"Extended weekend?" Colby shrugged, causing me to roll my eyes and smile.

"Anyway, why don't you dance with me? Maybe I can show you some sexy moves." Brennen said, thrusting his hips slightly forward.

"No, I'm good. I don't want to dance tonight." I sighed.

"Why? What's wrong?" Colby asked, leaning closer.

I took a long sip from my drink. "Nothing. I don't want to talk about it."

"Did something happen?" Brennen replied.

I guess I should tell them.

"Do you know who... Travis Marcus is?" I winced a little.

They both looked at each other. "Yeah, I kinda know him. He's been to a couple parties at my house. Why?" Colby stated.

"It sounds so stupid..." I trailed off.

"Just tell us what's wrong, Skye." Brennen said.

"He... made fun of me?" I was still surprised at what he said.

"What?" They asked in unison.

"So, I was dancing with Casey and we see him looking over at us. And I had no idea who he was, but Casey knew. He comes over, Casey leaves, and he starts talking to me. He says I'm like no one else at this party and I ask him what he means. Then he says 'I'm surprised they let fat people in LA'. His friend sorta filmed all of it too." I grumbled, finally looking up at them.

Their eyes darkened at my words. Brennen and Colby glanced at one another, nodded, and turned to leave. I grabbed their wrists suddenly. "Woah, where are you guys going?"

"We're gonna go talk to him." Colby stated deadpanned.

"I just want give him a piece of my mind." Brennen smirked evilly.

I jumped in front of them. "No no no. Guys, you are not gonna fight him just because he made fun of me."

"Who said anything about fighting?" Colby asked, looking me in the eyes.

"I don't know, maybe it's the fact that you guys look like you want to hit something." I quipped.

Brennen turned his head to Colby. "Travis is definitely a something."

I sighed. "Don't fight him, please. Just ignore him. He's not worth it."

They both relax a bit. Brennen leaned against the counter. "If he ever says shit like that to you again, I will have to hurt him."

I exhaled. "Okay."

I gazed over at Colby. He was glaring at the ceiling, taking a long swig from his drink.

"Are you alright?" I whispered to him, stepping closer.

"I'm good." He grunted.

I don't believe that for a second.

Before I could respond, Casey comes up to us. "Hey, I was wondering where you went off to. What happened with Travis?"

"It's a long story. Is it okay if we leave soon?" I asked.

"Uh... sure? I wasn't really in the mood to stay much longer anyway. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I'll tell you about it in the Uber."

I turned to Brennen and gave him a quick hug, mumbling a 'see you later' to him. I stepped over to Colby and gave him a hug. When I pulled away, I looked up at him, his eyes already on mine. "I'll text you later, okay?"

"Okay." He smiled a tight-lipped smile, pulling away from me quickly.

I waved at both of them, grabbing Casey's hand and moving to the exit.

"Oh my God, what a fucking jerk!" Casey exclaimed, pulling the blanket over her legs.

I scoffed. "I know. I just can't believe I got made fun of. I feel like I'm back in fucking middle school."

We had been home for an hour, relaxing on the couch in pjs. We had ordered takeout and ice cream. Casey turned on Beetlejuice, my favorite movie, to try and cheer me up.

"The fact that his friend filmed it really pisses me off. Like if he post it anywhere, all it's gonna show is that Travis is a dick. Did they think it was a joke of something?" Casey rolled her eyes, taking a bite of food.

I shrugged, grabbing some fries. "It's all so... stupid. And then to top it off, Brennen and Colby were about to fight him."

"Wait what?!" Casey gasped, sitting up quickly.

I nodded, twisting my face up a bit. "Yeah, they were ready to fight him and I had to stop them from doing it."

"What's the face for? Did something else happen?" She asked.

I sighed. "Kinda, I guess. After I told them what had happened, Colby got kinda closed off. I don't know why though... maybe I'm just reading into it."

"It's because you like him, that's why." She smirked.

"What? No he doesn't..." I trailed off, looking back at the TV.

"Think about it: the girl he's into gets made fun of by some douche. He wanted to fight Travis because he hurt you, and Colby doesn't like seeing you hurt." She continued, "He soooo likes you." She laughed.

"Ha ha, shut up." I mocked, grabbing my phone. I started to scroll through Instagram, only to be interrupted by a call from Brennen.

I picked it up. "Hello?"

"Hey, can you tell me where you live?" Brennen asked.

I cocked my head to the side. "Um why?"

"Well, a bunch of us kinda need to come over." He mumbled.

"Who?"

"Me, Colby, Sam, and Kat."

"Did something happen?" I questioned.

"We got into a fight with Travis." He stated.

luke, bc he’s just a cold human being. lol not like in his heart or soul, but his body runs colder than most, so he’s chilled like all the time

if he’s not acting like an octopus, he’s hogging the duvet. tori doesn’t mind a whole bunch, since she runs warm (thanks apollo), but sometimes, on really cold nights (heating is so expensive and if they can keep it off, they will), it’s v annoying so she’ll forcefully pull the duvet back, which forces luke to turn into an octopus

i’d say tori is. she worries a lot abt luke, esp bc he can kinda hole up inside his mind when he’s having a tough time

those little text alert noises and rings are actually quite comforting for luke. he appreciate them a lot, which he’d never say out loud, but he doesn’t need to since they can read each other pretty well

you might be surprised, but luke actually is. it comes from his creativity for pranks

it’s super bad in the summer too, bc the days are longer and it gets light around 4 or 5 in the morning lol

but tori generally gets up with the sun (thanks apollo), so during the winter she gets up later than in the summer and luke is generally up before her

so he just has stacks of journals, all filled, many from tori–its therapeutic and he finds it’s something he actually quite enjoys. in the quiet of his shared bedroom with tori, of course

not just bc she can take care of herself, but also bc luke does so with reckless abandon and she doesn’t like that he could potentially be wounded/hurt/killed bc he was protecting her

who suggests that they buy a pet

tori, but only bc they were passing a pet shop one day and she noticed luke’s eyes lingering on one of the kittens inside that had taken a liking to luke

it was december, so v cold. and they were on their way back to their apt when they passed a pet shop

and as they’re passing, one of the kittens leaps up and paws at the window, following the couple as they continue pass

this catches luke’s attention, and he finds the little kitten’s persistence endearing as they walk past

the kitten’s also meowing, but obvi they can’t hear it. luke can see it tho bc its little mouth keeps moving

even tho luke insists it’s okay if they don’t get the kitten, tori drags him inside anyway and they go to the pen, and the little kitten is waiting for them on the other side

it’s a calico and it’s not until they’re inside that they notice this little kitten’s eye is injured on its right side (bc of glare from the window outside)

luke is only able to stare, too in shock to really move or think, but tori picks up the mewling ball of fluff and coos at it. then she holds it out for luke to take. and he’s hesitant at first, bc its so small and fragile, but tori gently coaxes it into his arms. and he rests it on his shoulder and it falls asleep, the precious bby

luke panics at that, though, bc he doesn’t know what to do lol. tori is not help, she just laughs and smiles at him

one of the workers goes over to them then and says that injured animals are always tough to sell, so tori, of course, immediately says they’ll buy this kitten

anyway, her official name is jiji, but her nickname is kitty bc that’s what luke referred to her as when they first brought her home and it kinda stuck.

what couple traditions they have

idk if this qualifies as a “tradition” per se, but, since we’re in the everyone lives!au, this is also the au where luke surprises tori with a song for her b-day one yr

and so after that their “i love you” turns into, “did i mention?”

after long days/after a monster attack while they’re out trying to be normal, and after they’ve cleaned up and are relaxing in bed, they’ll softly sing duets together (since luke can sing now lol; also from linked post). but tori’s still trying to get luke to sing a duet with her in public, to no avail so far

i’ve mentioned before that they like to shower together (again it’s not ever sexual), it’s more meditative and still v much intimate

again, not exactly a tradition, but sometimes if tori’s having trouble sleeping/it’s a particularly bad night regarding nightmares, luke will softly sing to her (most of the time, “did i mention” bc he knows how happy it makes her)

valentines day is a BIG thing. and it feels so cliche for me to say, but tori LOVES that holiday and luke would do anything for that woman. so he’ll do as much cheesy, romantic stuff as he can and that he’s gleaned from movies (and like actually romantic stuff, not the White™ version of romance where the man stalks/forces the woman’s hand)

i mean most of the big holidays–valentines, halloween, christmas and new yrs are p big things in the williams-castellan household

most of the time, they spend it alone together (lol if that makes sense) like the week or day before, they’ll go out with friends and what family they have left lmao i made myself sad ;_; but on the day of, they’ll spend it together in the comfort of their apt bc going out is too overwhelming for both of them

every sunday, they’ll bake together and every monday, they’ll make a meal together. it helps them enjoy the end of their weekend and the beginning of a new work-week more, being able to spend that time together and looking forward to it at the end of those dreaded mondays

what tv shows they watch together

adult cartoons like bob’s burgers, rick & morty, and futurama

episodic comedies like parks & rec, the office, b99, and scrubs

they’ll sometimes chance it with crime procedurals and the like, but if the show gets too heavy, they’ll stop and not really go back bc they’ve dealt with enough

same goes for sci-fi/fantasy shows (tho they chance these even less bc they deal with enough mythology shit just being demigods)

what other couple they hang out with

they’ll sometimes hang out with like percy and annabeth (and maybe the other couples from the seven JASON IS STILL ALIVE I SAID EVERYONE LIVES!AU + nico and will, etc.), but it’s more in a mentor kind of way, since luke and tori are so much older than all of them. they’re good to go to for advice abt relationships, and also life in general

i like to think they are able to make friends with couples their age through places like the waystation that are hidden throughout the mortal world, but they’re wary abt new ppl bc they’ve had so many bad experiences, just in general (not necessarily with ppl)

so if you do manage to become a friend and they ask you to go on a double date with them with your partner, it’s ride or die for them (and it better be mutual)

how they spend time together as a couple

quiet nights in, mundane date nights out–anything a normal couple would do bc they’ve been through enough already, they don’t need more excitement/trauma

that, of course, doesn’t stop monsters from attacking them when they go out. but after a battle, they’ll go home, clean up, and cuddle on the bed with lofi music playing in the background and scented candles lit around the room

who made the first move

tori did regarding their private confirmation of being in a relationship since she’s demi, and she’d told luke so. he didn’t want to push her into anything she was uncomfortable with, esp if her feelings stayed platonic/friendly, so he let her take the reins

luke did regarding their public confirmation of being in a relationship when he asked her to the fireworks show

who brings flowers home

luke does bc he knows tori likes it when he does romantic things she’s seen in movies

neither really, since they didn’t exactly grow up in traditional homes

but a few years after the war and of living together, tori decides to take classes on mexican cuisine to reconnect a little more with her roots and her mom. luke joins her, obvi, bc he cares and love her duh

backstreets back *ALRIGHT*

what is UP my guys it’s been a hot minute since i posted here. my life has changed a Lot recently (some good, some bad) and due to some of the circumstances i’m in i think i’m gonna come back to this blog at least for now?? so here’s a quick list of what’s been going down in Alex town:

-my bf/bff/fp of nearly three years broke up w me a couple of months ago. so that’s been REALLY hard of course, but not as bad as i thought it might be?? meaning i didn’t attempt anything harmful. this is mostly bc of school (which i’ll talk abt in a sec) and DBT (which i will also talk abt in a sec). so yeah that’s been a big sad thing and we haven’t talked since he broke up w me so ᕕ( ツ )ᕗ it’s weird

-the dbt group i’m in is a 64 week thing and next week is my last!! like i’m still sad and have problems but it’s really helped in some aspects, one of the biggest being interpersonal relationships. i’ve gotten a lot closer to a lot of good friends and ive learned how to text people first and ask for help and they’ve all helped me out a TON with my breakup. i love my friends and they’re amazing

-i graduated high school last saturday!! which is great bc i won’t have to see my ex and a few other ppl i don’t like for a long long time probably!!!! so that’s pretty great. and next year for college i’m going to university of minnesota twin cities and majoring in psych and minoring in spanish!!! so i’m excited to kinda start over a bit and be in a new place

-speaking of college, my roommate has been a big thing lately!!! i met her on snapchat and she’s amazing and i love her BUT she’s turning into my crush/fp which isn’t very good!!!!! the last like year of my relationship w my fp we were good at communicating and most of my problems surrounding the fp thing went away but now they’re coming back again and this time she’s Not neurotypical like my ex was so that makes it even trickier to figure out???? i also actually met her for the first time irl today!!!! which was amazing and surreal but uh the main reason i’m coming back here is i realized How Bad my fp problems are and i’m dying so!!!!! y’all will probably hear more about that later bc it’s a mess and i hate my brain a lot :-)

anyway that’s the main stuff!!!! also quick note i have a couple asks in my inbox and i have no idea how old they are so i’m gonna just delete them hdkshdksj so if u still want me to answer ur ask feel free to send it again bc i’m very happy to talk and give advice and receive advice or whatever!!! i just wanna start fresh w that. also idk how many active followers i have left lol but if ur still here hi ily thank u for reading this and sticking around

this is just me writing about me and laras long gay metal gear fanfic

this is pretty silly but I'm like so nervous about posting the last chapter of the fanfic I've been working on with Lara for the past no joke almost two and a half years because it's like a silly really trope-y fanfic about a bad video game series but like, I've Grown A Lot during the process of writing it and my life has changed so drastically in so many ways during the process. It's taken two and a half years because the further we get in the editing process the more I drag my heels -- it's been like four months since we posted the penultimate chapter and the final chapter doesn't even need that much editing (just a lot of me regretting putting ppl texting each other in it)

ok im putting in a read more because predictably i went on forever.

But it's weird, actually finishing something this long. And it's weird because I'm proud of it but it's like, a fan fiction, but I'm legit proud of it. And it's weird because like --- I write achronologically so parts of the last chapter I wrote over two years ago. The very last scene is one of the parts that's like, survived pretty much intact through the nine or ten different massive google docs we have. And parts of the last chapter are legitimately extremely important to me in a personal way and it's a fan fiction that's just 60k bad homestuck jokes and bad xfiles jokes and self indulgent recursive meta fiction. It's a story I continuously feel silly about because it's like, nice. I try very hard to make it a kind story, tho I gravitate by nature to being as grimdark as possible because if you write nice things about things you like then people know your vulnerabilities and thus how to destroy you etc.

and also these awful video game characters are Important to me and Lara and I have a very particular vision of them that I think is different from a lot of peoples perception of them -- i of course simultaneously believe that 1. i am totally right about all of my interpretations and they are the most correct and 2. these are fictional characters that don’t exist as real people so many different interpretations of the characters are equally valid. so this whole fanfic is like, me pitching our iterations of these characters to other people, like, “hey. . . what if just, like, what if we all just sort of chilled out a little here, and thought up like, some nice stuff.” and that’s important to me.

and the fact that the characters i’m writing are able to form like, a healthy adult relationship --- that’s really really important to me, because like, not a lot of what i would consider healthy adult communicative supportive romantic relationships are portrayed in like, anything i read? certainly not in a lot of fanfic, certainly not in a lot of metal gear fanfic. which okay partially is because like half the protagonists in metal gear are awful people and the other half are written i would say “with dubious quality” by their original creators. but partially i have some Huge Issues with a lot of things. . . centered around metal gear. . . because i think there’s shit in metal gear that’s fun and interesting but there’s a lot of shit that like, we should all maybe just go ahead and consign to the trash heap. but that’s neither here nor there.

anyway, a lot of writing this was also kind of figuring out what a healthy adult romantic relationship was, while also situating that in the context of like, other important friendships. i struggled a lot with not falling into some of the pitfalls i think fics like this (one centered around the main m/m couple in the fandom but one that also attempts to include a lot of female characters -- we’ll call it “the rosemary problem” and ya’ll probably will know what i mean) fall into, and i don’t think i always succeeded, but i think we did okay. i don’t want to get into like Too Much Stuff about why that was so important to me at this particular point in my life because i have a huge difficulty like, sharing personal info about myself that i think reveals Weakness or something Silly, but yeah. i’ll probably end up writing about that anyway because i love to hear myself talk.

literally like three of you have read our fanfic so this is a lot of bloviating about something i’ve spent way more time thinking about than like anyone else ever (save Lara), and so like, talking about what i wish i’d done better and what i’m really proud of in it isn’t like, really going to mean anything and i’m going to instead just make an insufferably long author’s note at the end of the final chapter. i do feel Deeply Silly about something thats not original fiction being this Important to me and something that i treat this seriously, but i’m incapable of creating things without taking them very seriously, i put the exact same amount of effort into fanfic as i ever have into like, writing original fiction. and it’s important, and i created it with someone that i love so very very very much, and it’s a thing we made together so it’s always going to be very special to me, and i cannot fucking believe i put so many things that i’m going to have to format in the last chapter, thanks past me.

July 17 Dancitron Movie Night - Sing

Swoop and Tarantulas got in a small kerfuffle and Prowl sent a flying kick at Swoop, and honestly Prowl jumping into a fight with a Dinobot is easily the dumbest thing he’s done all month.

Soundwave, Tarantulas and Prowl hung out after movie night was over. The contents of said hangout are still being roleplayed out and the chatlog is forthcoming. Highlights of what IS included in this log: Tarantulas has promised to capture a bunch of cephalopods for Soundwave, Bevel, and Prowl to meet. (Prowl doesn’t really care about meeting them all that much, but he decided to come along anyway so that Soundwave gets to meet three more species.)

how they met:

they met @ a clothing store !!! the stylists had finally caught on that yoongi had been taking home his ~work clothes because honestly he had been a lil too lazy to shop or dress himself lately and after he gave them back he was left w very little clean things and didn’t want to go through their communal laundry pile n figure out what was his so he decided to just shop instead. so he went out w the standard celebrity hat + mask disguise combo and tbh noticed y/n working in the shop right away bc she was in the darks section hidden between two racks of sweaters n secretly using her phone. and it was kinda cute n funny to him 1. bc she was slacking off during work and 2. bc she was dressed in white n pastel pink so she did more standing out than blending in. n so yoongi pretended to look thru a rack of black sweaters for a few mins before he cleared his throat n said “is playing hide and seek part of the job?” and y/n obvi jumped bc she didn’t even realize someone had been in that section and dropped her phone on the ground. so she was pouty and ready to kinda say something bratty back but as soon as she took one look @ yoongi n his hat + mask she bursted into laughter and said “you look like a walking police sketch” min yoongi pretty much lost to the demonic possession that is love @ that very moment

backstory: yoongi’s y/n

her parents run an art gallery in gangnam !!! they always gave her lots of freedom 2 pursue her own interests so when she was little she did everything from piano to taekwondo to dance to collecting dragon ball figurines but also rilakkumas. she never rly had 2 worry abt anything bc her parents are super supportive. and now……..because she’s always had so much freedom, she doesn’t exactly know what she wants to do w her life ??? because a lot of things interest her ?? and choosing one thing doesn’t seem like a decision she’s ready to make yet !?? so she got the job @ the clothing store bc she wanted some responsibility (even tho she breaks company policy n is on her phone half of her shift) and routine. n it made her feel a little less guilty abt being ~taken care of i guess ???? but tbh she doesn’t give herself enough credit bc she does a lot for other ppl ??? esp for her parents like she’s always helping out @ the gallery and running errands hmm other things. she has an older brother who studies film (her fam is generally v artistic) n he’s quite serious n like the definition of perfect child and she likes to tease him a lot but she takes care of him a bit too she’ll call him like “ i dropped off some candles n boxes of tea @ ur apartment bc yesterday you looked so stressed u kinda resembled goku abt to go super saiyan. that can’t be good for ur health !!! take care of urself ”!!!! um tbh when yoongi n y/n were getting to know each other like ~deeply she was kinda worried that he’d be put off by her upbringing bc tho they are not completely polar opposite, his is still very very different from hers and she was afraid that maybe he’d judge her for it but it wasn’t like that @ all !!!! yoongi was v happy & relived (?!!!) to hear this bc he knew that she had 3 pillars of support if he couldn’t be there for some reason and also it was so……….. relieving………. for his heart to know that she hadn’t been hardened by the world ??? and like y/n had been studying his reaction super closely totally prepared for some judgment but the only thought in yoongi’s head was “thank god thank god thank god” because y/n is like his own little heaven & that’s hella cheesy for him to think so it’s probably why he calls her demon instead. he likes that she has many interests because she always has something new to tell him and she knows a little abt everything so when they go out n she explains something to him he feels proud ???? and impressed and smitten ?? and not the usual annoyed bc she talks abt things a lot cuter and with less pretense than namjoon does when he’s being a know it all. but he doesn’t feel like y/n is a know it all. she’s just a sharer !!!! she wants to share everything w yoongi from random facts abt soccer or art or the extensive n complicated backstory of the band gorillaz & she gets excited about it and yoongi LOVES it !!!! he loves that when she’s excited the first thing she thinks abt is telling him so he can be excited too and he loves that he doesn’t have to guess what she’s thinking or feeling bc she tells him everything. she doesn’t hide from him and so he feels like he can’t hide from her and pushes himself to be more honest and open and it’s so relieving to finally be able to fully share himself w someone !!! the only thing that takes years off his life is that yoongi is like 90% of y/n’s impulse control (i think u could tell that in a few texts) lmao

how they met custard bread lady:

it was predating. yoongi was walking y/n to work one morning (which….. he’d rather be sleeping but he wouldn’t be able to see her for a week after that so he decided to milk all the time he had) n they decided to stop @ custard bread lady’s shop bc it was open and on the route 2 y/n’s job so it seemed pretty convenient (they had never been there before) n the plan was to get yoongi’s black coffee & y/n’s hot chocolate n get out of there within 5mins which seems like a reasonable plan but little did they know a middle aged man from h e l l would be the customer ahead of them. & every time yoongi tells this story he swears this man must’ve had zero concept of the coffee making process bc he was like ridiculously offended that he’d have to wait a few minutes for his coffee n completely yelling @ custard bread lady for no reason which was……….delaying the production of his coffee even further. n y/n wanted to step in so bad yoongi could see it all over her face she wanted 2 straight falcon punch this middle aged dude all the way to whatever sad desk job he has for disrespecting the god they would come 2 know as custard bread lady. but he knows her. she’s too high maintence for prison. so yoongi rolls his eyes and very loudly says “just go buy a bottled coffee from f*cking starbucks if ur really in that much of a hurry” and the man turns around like what did u say u punk. who do u think you’re talking to. and yoongi has decided to just completely pretend like he didn’t say anything bc if u dont give demons like this attention they’ll eventually go away so he takes the opportunity 2 step up to the counter n is like “can we have a black coffee n hot chocolate pls we’re prepared 2 wait as long as u need” n custard bread lady is so confused bc the man is like still yelling @ yoongi (who is holding tightly onto y/n so she doesnt turn around like “HE SAIIIIIIIID JUST GO BUY A BOTTLED COFFEE FROM F*C—”) so custard bread lady prepares their order n the guy is yelling @ yoongi who is now scrolling through twitter on his phone & taking mental note of all the new curse words he’s learned from this man and eventually that dude leaves (not without threatening to find yoongi later) and custard bread lady is relieved that he’s gone & is thanking them like they’re some kind of heroes & they’re like we literally didnt do anything @ all. but she’s appreciative anyway n throws in free bread w/ their order and unknowingly changed their lives n taste buds 4ever 🍞

they met @ uni !!! seokjin is hardly ever on campus (he’s a v busy man) so he was super super lost n confused trying to find a restroom one day. and while he was wandering through the halls he saw y/n carrying a 50 ft stack (an exaggeration) of coloring books (there’s a reason ehehheh) and even tho his bladder was abt 2 explode he ran over to help her bc it really looked like she’d fall over if a spec of dust landed on top of them. but being suddenly approached by a tall n broad (n handsome) guy startled y/n so s he fell over anyway. and seokjin laughed his rly rly loud goofy laugh as he picked up the coloring books surrounding her and made a rly cheesy "wow i didn’t think you’d fall for me this quickly" joke & @ first y/n was completely appalled but then she realized he wasn’t laughing at her he was laughing at his own joke lmao !!!! not everyone is as confident n open as seokjin he has no problem talking 2 ppl but it was kind of not the case for y/n she didn’t rly know what to say or do so he did abt 90% of the talking as he carried the coloring books (he didn’t ask abt them) to wherever they needed to go n y/n did abt 100% of the laughing bc seokjin held back a little not wanting 2 overwhelm her and because he rly liked hearing her laugh for some reason. so they get 2 where y/n needs to go n seokjin puts everything down n jokingly asks if there’s a 50ft stack of colored pencils that he also needs to bring in n she laughs again so he’s satisfied n decides to quit while he’s ahead. before he leaves he asks 4 her number and also directions to the nearest restroom !!!!!!!

they met @ the hospital when hoseok was a handful of months old and y/n was a handful of hours! n there’s not much to say abt that initial encounter but their moms are best friends n they grew up together u know. hoseok would cry whenever he fell n scraped his knee & y/n would tell him she loved him n did her best to distract his thoughts as she placed a band aid over the wound. when her parents didn’t get her the doll castle she wanted for her bday hoseok ran home n gathered up all his legos to build one for her. n so they lived w that kind of dynamic (being each other’s knight in shining armor) for a long time n they loved it u know and they could admit that to themselves and to others but as they grew older they would never admit that they ~more than platonic~ loved each other bc “best friends don’t do that”. so hoseok would sit on the edge of y/n’s desk w his arms crossed n his tongue digging into the side of his cheek as another one of their classmates attempted a horribly thought out confession and instead of direct rejection y/n would ramble on abt what a perfect guy shinee’s taemin was. hoseok still instinctively scoffs whenever he hears replay. it wasn’t easy 4 y/n either bc her bff hoseokie whom she had to quickly change the channel for when horror movie ads came on was suddenly this handsome godly dancer n she had to wash her hands for an uncomfortable amount of time as she eavesdropped on the other girls in the restroom gushing over how hot her best friend was and struggled to deal w the fact that she thought the same.

backstory: hoseok’s y/n

we know a little bit abt y/n’s backstory bc hoseok & y/n mention their childhood a lot. like we know that he’s her best friend and that their moms are best friends and we know that she hasn’t loved anyone besides hoseok (except for shinee’s taemin) she’s basically hoseok sunshine but…………w/ a twist. hoseok is a capri sun & she’s lemonade. she’s rly rly sweet but wow if u even look @ hoseok the wrong way ur dead SO DEAD. but hoseok usually talks her out of being confrontational so u’ll probably just get hit w/ the double stink eye from them. to me she’s got an office job !!!! like she’s the mischievous graduate assistant n probably maknae of the office so she’s well loved but has to do things like run to the store n buy pringles for her coworkers when they’re working overtime and the stereotypic coffee run thing~ she brings a lot of joy to the older employees the way hoseok brings a lot of joy to his members & team so they never work her too hard. i think it’s a v comfortable job for y/n & it’s nice to have kind of a ~controlled environment. the beginning of their relationship was a mix of easy & awkward bc even tho it’s what they both wanted for a long time it was still like…….suddenly ur making out w/ ur best friend what the heck is going on. but after that it was so natural !!!! they know each other’s personalities so well that they’re never confused abt what the other needs !!!! tbh everyone was waiting for this to happen. like their moms have been dreaming abt a wedding for years and yoongi + guk had a bet going on and guk lost bc yoongi did some instigating hehehehh. y/n is so friendly & charming & they’ve known her for as long as they’ve known hoseok so they all like her for him bc she’s absolutely his #1 fan. y/n i think worries the least abt his schedule and not seeing him for a bit bc she’s already experienced it as his best friend and if anything it’s easier now bc she knows he’s ~hers. and if she is missing him he’s rly good @ making himself available to her so things get sorted out pretty quickly ! she rly rly rly cares abt him and wants to protect him bc he’s the best person she knows and so like that’s why she gets so worked up even if someone says they don’t like bngtn lmao & she rly cares abt his feelings like they mentioned that she was a fan of taemin when they were in school but ever since she found out it slightly bothered hoseok (f2l texts) she never mentions it (the way guk’s y/n does. not that she doesn’t care abt guk’s feelings. they’re just 2 v diff boys) !!!!!! she’s always giving him compliments and trying to make him feel good she doesn’t want him to feel insecure. hoseok rly loves her bc he truly feels like he has a person in this world who understands him 100% and he never feels like his personality is too much or too little when he’s with her. everything feels perfect & familiar & it’s like his heart’s home is w/ her and not w him.
