Chapter 1

Someone told me that life goes on. No matter what. At first, that sounded like a simple quote but later on I noticed it was true. Sometimes you just gotta continue. Don't look back. Have your destination on your mind. Because that's the only way for truly living.

If you told me one year ago that my life would change forever, I would've laughed at you. I always thought my life was just too boring to make me a special person. But that's what I was. I experienced all those things I never could've even imagined. That one year in New Tork didn't just changed my life, it changed who I was.

I was excited. My luggage felt heavy and I put it on the ground for a few seconds. New York! I was really here! The ten hour flight from Germany to NY City had been exhausting. It was the first time I sat on a plane. But as soon as I saw the first glimpse of city lights, my tiredness shifted into excitement. Adrenaline rushed though my blood.

I streched my neck and looked around the terminal. It was crowded. Much more than Germany. But I mean - what did I expect? This was New York!

I really couldn't belive it. I was finally here and would stayed for a whole year! After I finished school I decided to do an exchange year in America. I always wanted to do that. It felt strange to be here now. And a whole year seemed to endlessly long. But that was my chance. When else do you get the chance to go to New York? Another great thing was that a cousin of my dad lived here.

I can't remember how and why but someday my dad told me about his distantly related cousin and he searched for the address on his computer. His name was Brruce Banner and he lived in Manhattan. Many years ago he lived in Germany but that was before I was even born.

Dad told him from my exchange year plans and he wrote me an email. Bruce was so nice! He was some kind of scientist (I don't know exactly what he's doing) and he had countless doctor degrees.

He told me that he used to delved gammar rays and left Germay for that. Bruce lived in some kind of living community. But soon he told me that he and his friends were special. They were the Avengers.

I thought he was joking when I heard that but it's true. Bruce worked together with the Avengers and he himself was 'the Hulk'. You know that green giant monster that he turn into when he is angry. I asked my father but he didn't know about the Avengers. Bruce assured me that he's telling the truth and that he was hiding his green identity from the news. He said he wasn't dangerous anymore. He had it (the other one) in control.

Then he told me more about his friends. The Avengers. I could remeber New York massacre from 2012. Where the Avengers first came together to fight an evil alien army. The message that earth was not the only planet with living beings flooded the news back then. Gods, Titans and Monsters where everywhere. We even spoke in school about it. Most of it sounded like bullshit but the scenes from the destroeyd city were still stuck in my head. Bruce told me that the attack from the god Loki where their first mission. The reason why they assembled. Now they were a team. Fighting against the evil of this world.

And that's where I wanted to go! At first I hesitated. I mean who want to live together with superheroes who risk theri lives everyday!?

But at the end I decided to go. Bruce said there wouldn't be any problems. They didn't had a mission lately. And if so, a secret organisation would handle it. Bruce's stories made me curious. I googled everyone of his friends and got more and more excited. I wanted to get to know this group!

And now I stood here at the airport in Manhattan and waited for Bruce. When he told me his friend Thor was a norse god, I went through the whole internet to find information about him. I loved the norse mythology and everything that had to do with it. I only found the old sagas but I still binge-read them. I got the chance to meet a real god!

But when Bruce said Thor wouldn't be there I was really disappointed. In Asgard, Thors homeland, he was always needed. Right now they have some trouble with dark evles, Bruce said. He was sorry that I couldn't meet Thor personally but he tried to cheer me up and told me his brother would be there. Also a god. But then he told me that Thor's brother (his name was Loki) had been the one who sent the alien army to New York. I almost cancelled the flight. That guy was a mass murderer! I wasn't suicidal!

But Bruce said there was no need for that. Loki was actually quite nice. And the Avengers were kinda babysitting him and would protect me. Loki was on earth to atone for what he did. So Odin sent him to the Avengers - Loki's arch enemies.

Three weeks before the flight Bruce wrote in an email that Thor was back on earth and that he would stay for a while. So I got the chance to meet two gods! Thor even brought his girlfriend Jane.

So here I was. In the middle of New York. Waiting for Bruce to show up. Suddenly, someone tapped onto my shoulder. I turned around. It was Bruce, holding a to go coffee in his right hand.

"Heeyy! Welcome to New York!" He hugged me and I smiled over my whole face. It was like I'd known him my entire life.

JUNE 2020 DIMENSIONS ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW

OVERALL COMPANY

CEO Choi had little say in the cross-company retreat this year and won’t be attending, much like the other company executives. Instead, Choi Dongwook suggested the venue after noticing how overworked Dimensions idols have been recently (or, rather, how the public has noticed how overworked all three companies’ idols have been). Still, even Dongwook is aware the retreat serves more as a bandaid on a bigger problem and good publicity than anything else.

DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 1

Word from the higher-ups is that they’d like to have her begin working on her next comeback next month, but for this month, she has the job of promoting herself by heading to New York from June 12 to June 14 (and will take back the same plane back as Dimensions Soloist 2) to performing at this year’s KCON alongside label mate Lucid and soloists from both BC and Gold Star.

DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 2

In the wake of his comeback, the only schedule he has this month is a performance at KCON New York.  He’ll be in New York from June 11 to June 14 (and will take the same place back as Dimensions Soloist 1). This month, Dimensions will be publicly announce an upcoming Seoul concert for him and open up ticketing, but he won’t begin intensive rehearsals for it until next month.

DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 3

Though promotions are over, she’ll continue filming her OnStyle reality show at the beginning of the month. This month, a day has been scheduled for her to be filmed going about her “everyday life” at home with visits from some friends (admin note: these may be other muses or NPCs, but must be female friends) and filming will end with them making a meal together. The aim is to show her in a personable light. After that filming is done, she’ll be granted a one week vacation from June 11 to June 17 (where she’ll be permitted to travel out of the country if she’d like) as a reward for the success of her debut.

GAL.ACTIC

A successful past few months of performing hasn’t gone unnoticed by brands and though Gal.actic is still considered a risky choice for some due to their history of controversies, they’ve been offered a new contract with denim brand GetUsed that Dimensions has been happy to accept on their behalf. As the new ambassadors, they’re scheduled to film a CF this month, where they’ll show off the brand’s jeans while teaching both the “B.B.B” point choreography along with the point choreography for one of their older songs, “Wiggle Wiggle”.

ALIEN

The release of their latest English single preludes a performance at KCon New York later in the month. They won’t actually be performing any of their English singles, in an arguably questionable move by Dimensions’ marketing team, but it is part of the continued push for them in the American market. The rest of the month, the members will be learning and perfect the stage choreography for “Follow” and “Find You” for their upcoming comeback, along with filming the M/V (admin note: Hyungwon’s role will be played by the main vocal, car crash tw) for their pre-release single “Find You” and shooting the photo book.

MARS

"Take Me Higher” is doing well on the charts as one of the stronger boy group releases of the year, even if a certain subset of fans are asking for a return to form with something darker and more theatrical. Their schedule for June is mostly music shows, but they will be filming a variety appearance in the form of Pops In Seoul early in the month where they’ll do self-introductions and show off their in-group dynamics.

June 14: End of music show promotions.

7ROPHY

"No” gets the group two music show wins but not any notable chart success, which makes it all the more important when they’re called into a meeting on June 15 after returning from their trip to New York for KCon from June 11 to June 14 and after filming a short package where Aria visits them at the Dimensions’ building to help them with a cover performance of “Mr. Chu” they’ll be doing as a special stage. The meeting is a filmed one at the company headquarters to officially confirm with them that they’ll be appearing on a new MNet competition show called Queendom where they’ll compete against five other female idol acts. During the meeting, they’ll be informed one by one that they’re competing with Lipstick, Aria, two NPC senior groups, and one NPC senior soloist and their reactions will be filmed. The show will begin airing in late August, but they must begin preparing a brief introduction stage (admin note: Soyeon’s rap will not be included because 7ROPHY has yet to release Uh Oh), which they will go to the MNet studio to film on June 29. While they are there, they will be interviewed and asked what they want to show through their performances and will be heavily pushed towards answers that push the story line MNet has planned for them: proving themselves despite being the most junior artists of the bunch.

UNITY

While three of their members are in LA with CHAMPION, the other Unity members will have a little more free time to do as they please, though it’s not an official vacation of any sort where they can leave the country like they had last month. Once the members return, the group will get to work on learning and practicing the choreography for “Kick It” and “Prelude” (an instrumental track that will be included on the repackage) for their approaching comeback. The group also has a photo shoot and interview for the summer issue of DiCon Magaze, which they’ll be on the cover of.

           ↳ CHAMPION

All members of the sub-unit will fly out to Los Angeles on June 3 and will stay in Los Angeles through June 10. They’ll be filmed during their time in Los Angeles for a reality show that will be released called CHAMPION The Beginning. During their weeklong stay, they’ll be staying in a house in Beverly Hills instead of a hotel in order to encourage more bonding between the sub-unit members. Their rooms will be assigned by random draw and will end up as follows:

Room One: Main rapper/lead dancer/vocal (Unity)

Room Two: Main dancer/vocal/rapper (Knight) & Main vocal (Knight)

Room Three: Main dancer/lead vocal (Decipher)

Room Four: Main dancer/rapper/vocal (Unity) & Lead rapper/vocal (Unity)

On June 5, the night before their debut showcase, the members will be treated to a special dinner made by private chefs paid for by BC and Dimensions. When they return to Korea on the morning of June 11, they’ll begin their promotions on Korean music shows, which is when they’ll fall into a more normal promotional routine.

LUCID

This month, the members not only have to be in the studio to record their first full-length album (which will signal a return to the power innocence concept, though they’ve left the school trilogy behind), but they also have to prepare for their upcoming concert tour which will take place before their next comeback. Lucid will embark on two separate tours before the end of the year ⁠— one solely themed after the music and concepts of their nightmare realm concept and another solely themed after the music and concepts of their regular realm concept. It’s a cash grab disguised as dedication to the concept, but fans are already eating the idea up. First up is the nightmare realm concert, for which they’ll prepare several covers for the tour, including a dance cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Believer”, a dance and vocal cover of “Regret of The Times”, and a revisit of their pre-debut “Lucky Strike” cover, and as well as the following duo or solo covers assigned by the company:

“Trouble Maker” (leader/lead vocal/lead dancer & maknae/vocal)

“Move” (main dancer/vocal/rapper & main rapper/vocal)

Among recording a rehearsals, the members will also be attending KCon in New York and filming a special clip of their “Regret of The Times” cover which will be released at the end of the month before they ever perform it in concert.

A Magical Holiday Break

I wrote this mainly for my own amusement and almost decided not to post it, but thought someone might enjoy it so I went with it and here we are. This is my third @densi-mber story and exists in the same timeline as the other two, but it can totally be read on its own.

“Baby, we’re not spending New Year’s Eve in Times Square.” Kensi said for what felt like the 100th time, continuing the argument that had started 2 days ago, as soon as they had been informed that NCIS was giving all the OSP team one week off as holiday vacation.

“Come on Princess, what place is more magical to receive the New Year together than Times Square?” Deeks looked at Kensi with his best puppy eyes and charming smile, hoping to convince her so they could start making travel arrangements.

“Shaggy, you just said the key to this whole situation… any place would be magical as long as we’re together… I just want to receive the New Year with you,” the sincerity and love in her words made his heart flutter and not for the first time, and certainly not for the last, he wondered how he had managed to get so lucky as to have this incredible woman in his life.

But, still there was an argument to win and a decision to be made so he couldn’t let his heart control his actions and needed to keep thinking with his head… at least until they were back in their shared bedroom. “I know that Kensalina, but if we can add a magical scene it would only make the moment even more magical and unforgettable.”

“Deeks, when we’re on a case you usually need to pee every 30 minutes… just imagine in the middle of winter… in New York City… and surrounded by 1 million people.” She looked at him from across their dining table, while she continued to eat her pasta. “It’s a recipe for disaster…” She eventually finished after a huge mouthful of her favorite Deeks’ culinary creation and a swig of her beer.

Deeks concentrated on his meal while he thought of a better argument but Kensi had just made a valid point. His face shined and his eyes took on that brightness they got when he was about to say a joke or tease one of his friends, “we can always use an adult diaper…”

Kensi almost chocked on the serving she was currently devouring and glared at her boyfriend while she took another swig to help fully swallow the offending pasta. “I’m not using an adult diaper…” Seeing the still amused looked in his eyes she knew she had to make her point even clearer, “…and neither are you!”

“You’re such a spoilsport Fern…” Kensi could only laugh at his comment and the pout that appeared on his face after her comment.

“Oh, and you’re such a baby Marty… stop with the pouting and act like the grown-up you’re supposed to be.” She kept laughing even as she said the words, enjoying teasing this man she loved so much.

He just glared at her and pouted even more, almost pointing out that he didn’t like to be called Marty, but knowing she had done it to annoy him and not wanting to give her the satisfaction. So he just decided to continue eating his pasta, while silently still thinking of a way to convince her.

The next morning started as the previous night ended… With another argument about their upcoming vacations. “Come on Kens, you know this is the best idea, pleeease?”

“Stop giving me your puppy eyes, they won’t make me change my mind…” Even as she said the words, she reached out to push his bangs away from said eyes, staring at them lovingly and getting lost in their blue depth.

“Then what do you say we do? Enjoy our vacation staying in the same LA and house?” He tried sounding indignant, going for a different approach to persuade her.

“We could still travel, just maybe somewhere close by… That way we can still enjoy a bit of free time and holiday celebration with our moms.”

“Yeah Kens, like that’s exactly what I want to do after our successful breakfast the other day, and dinner this past Sunday turned into little Marty picture time…”

“Oh but those pictures were so cute… I still want a copy of the one you’re wearing nothing but a diaper and the fluffy Santa hat,” she hugged him as she said the words in an attempt to show him that it was not a joke but that she really meant it.

“I’m sure mama is gonna get you a copy of it… and probably of the whole album if you asked, sometimes I think she likes you more than me…” He faked hurt as he said it, emphasizing his point by placing his hand dramatically over his heart.

“Well, can you really blame her? I actually make attempts to meet her while you always want to find an excuse… and you pointed a gun at her boyf… Guy… the first time you met him.” Every time the man was mentioned in an intimate capacity with Roberta, Deeks seem to blow a fuse, so she decided to take the save route and address him by name.

“Kens, you weren’t there… You don’t know how walking into that looked to me….” He was tired of speaking about Guy, his mama or anyone else, and he really just wanted a time for themselves, like the one they spent after going all in…

Just then his eyes took that special brightness and cheerfulness she loved so much, making it clear his crazy mind just had a new idea. “I got it! Let’s still go to NY but instead of staying in the city let’s book a cabin in a different town, what do you think?”

It was impossible to tell him no when his eyes were tinkling like that and when such an adorable and innocent smile was present on his face. “Okay baby, I remember reading of this town called Tarrytown, it’s just a short train ride away from Manhattan, so we can still see and enjoy the city but get back to a cozy cabin at night and… I would like to get back to LA for New Year’s.”

Hearing her words he instantly nodded, and with his adorable smile still present on his face, moved to hug her and kiss her sweetly on the lips, lingering there a second longer and breathing in her scent. He really liked the idea of spending New Year’s in New York, but also understood that given the year they just had, it was important to enjoy those days with family and their NCIS teammates and their moms were just that.

After breaking apart he went to their bedroom to pick up his laptop so they could start looking for a place and making reservations. Finding a place so close to the holidays wasn’t going to be easy, but hopefully one away from the city wouldn’t be as hard or expensive to find. After their conversation about Holiday gifts and saving money for their wedding they had almost decided not to go on vacation at all, but they both agreed the escape was needed and that’s when the discussion to pick a location had started.

It took the couple 45 minutes and a couple of new disagreements but they finally booked their flights and a small one-bedroom cabin north of NYC and close to the train station. They decided to travel early in the morning from LA and late at night from NY so they could enjoy as many days in the city without having to use all their vacations days there. Kensi having convinced her boyfriend to leave a day open so they could meet the moms for another Holiday visit and a day to meet the guys as they declined to go with them when they had been invited to join the trip, preferring to stay in LA and enjoy some calm days.

Holiday plans in motion, the young partners just needed to survive a few more days at work and it would be time for their much needed vacation and relaxing days to enjoy the company they both loved and cherished the most.

That morning Kensi and Deeks woke up eager to have a quick breakfast and head straight to the airport, bags already finished the night before, and just needing to add some toiletries and pack their laptops. After about 20 minutes of getting ready they left their home ready for their trip, both feeling sad having to leave Monty behind, but glad that Eric and Nell had agreed to come pick up the mutt later that day and take care of him for the duration of their trip.

They got to the airport with plenty of time to spare and with an excuse of going to the restroom Deeks stopped at a donut place to get some treats for his girlfriend to surprise and indulge her on the plane.

The young couple spent the flight snuggled together, laughing and looking at each other as if they were the only other person in the world… And in that moment, they really were. They ate their donuts, and laughed even more when Deeks jokingly smeared a bunch of powdered sugar on Kensi’s forehead, resulting in her covering his nose in strawberry jelly and excitedly screaming that she was flying with Rudolf. For anyone looking from a distance, the young couple might have appeared drunk, but in reality they were only overindulging in love and the peace that these days, away from it all, brought them.

“Come on baby, baggage claim is that way,” Kensi couldn’t help but smile at the pure wonder in Deeks’ voice as he signaled for the way to go. He looked like a kid, and she wondered how many vacations like this he had been able to enjoy during his childhood.

“Slow down Shaggy, I’m coming.” She was practically running behind him as she said the words, struggling to catch up to him and not crash with any of the other ton of people walking around them. New York City was surely a busy place this time of the year.

It took them around 3 hours to finally arrive to their cabin, having to wait for a prior flight before reclaiming their luggage and then awkwardly discovering that all NYC taxi drivers didn’t know how to get to little towns north of the city, so eventually deciding to head over to the train station instead. Kensi had wanted to rent a car but Deeks succeeded in convincing her to just enjoy these days as a tourists and not worry about traffic, parking and the other things that came with driving in the Big Apple.

“Oh wow, this place is awesome… And look at this tub.” Now it was Kensi’s voice the one full of wonder as she took in the sight before her and especially the hot tub located in the back, already thinking of all the things they would do there.

That night the couple decided to stay in their little town, and just left the comfort of the cabin to have some dinner and quickly came back… to escape from the cold, and find warmth in each other. Also finding a lot of help in the fireplace and hot tub that the cabin offered.

The next morning came quicker than any of them wanted, and with it started their 3 days for tourism and relaxation before they had to fly back on the fourth.

Combining both of their interests they first decided to head over to Union Square where the Wonder Twins had recommended they checked out their Holiday Market. As soon as they got out of the subway, they were surprised by the enormity of the skyscrapers and the simplicity of the little plaza where the market was located. They shopped a little, buying some homemade treats to eat that night at the cabin and some special handmade souvenirs to take to their teammates and moms back home. They even got one for Mosley, hoping to stay in her good graces and never have her try to, again, send Deeks back to LAPD.

Leaving the market they decided to walk 5th street until the point it reached Central Park, stopping at various places to look at the characteristic Manhattan Attractions. They took pictures of the Empire State, Flatiron Building, Rockefeller Center and many other places in between.

If asked later, both would easily agree their favorite part of the day was the ice rink they found in one of their stops, both instantly transported to another frozen lake 3 years prior. They held each other more closely after that, both remembering the past 7 years of their lives and how a MMA gym, a girl name Tracy and a boy name Jason had changed the course of both their lives forever. And how ultimately passing through another girl named Melissa and then Fern, and a boy named Justin and then Max, they had ended in a couple name Kensi Blye and Marty Deeks… One that would hopefully share the same surname, soon.

They got back to their cabin later that night, tired but content in the success of their day and ready to enjoy another night in each other’s arms.

The next 2 days of their trip proceeded in a similar way. They woke up tangled in each other, happy in the comfort and warm the other provided. They showered together, and almost every morning ended up taking longer than expected as said activity involved a lot more than just showering.

The first of those days, they decided to walk Central Park, especially as Deeks wanted to visit Strawberry Fields, the part of the park with the Imagine memorial dedicated to John Lennon. As they were leaving to continue their walk, the young man turned up to look at the sky, and Kensi silently wondered if he had wanted to visit the memorial for his father and if maybe that gesture had been dedicated to him. The rest of the day involved more walking, pictures, laughs, a nice dinner and getting back to their cabin to enjoy another night in the hot tub and then spread in a blanket in front of the fireplace.

The last full day they would be spending in New York passed by quicker than any of the others. They woke up a little later than expected after the previous’ nights activities had lasted more than planned. But still it left them enough time to go to the city. That day they visited the area of Battery Park to look, at least, from distance at the Statue of Liberty, before walking to the 9/11 Memorial and paying their respects to the fallen heroes and civilians of that day.

When time for lunch came, Kensi insisted they took the subway to a special place she wanted to visit. Not totally sure but not wanting to deny his girl anything Deeks agreed and was completely surprised when they reached their destination. It was the original bakery that invented the Cronut and he couldn’t feel more love for his girlfriend than he felt at that moment. His mind, instead of being invaded by darkness and memories of past nightmares, was full of the love and admiration he felt for Kensi, also the pride he felt for himself as he had managed to, for the most part, leave those demons behind.

They went into the bakery hand-in-hand, and Deeks’ disappointment at learning the Cronuts usually were all sold out before noon, quickly evaporated as he learned that Kensi had called the day they booked the trip to reserve a half-dozen for them; using her NCIS influence to make it happen. He hugged her and whispered in her hear a quick thank you, along with sweet promises of things to come later that night.

Cronuts in hand and hearts full, the couple left the bakery to get back to the train station so they could make their way back to their town. They enjoyed a nice dinner together and eventually ended up like all previous nights, just this time, enjoying some cronuts along with the heat of the fireplace and each other.

On the last day of their trip, they decided to stay in the town and walk a bit down Main Street instead of going back to Manhattan and risk losing their flight later that night.

The walk lasted less than expected as both man and woman wanted to get back to the cabin as soon as possible to enjoy some last moments in their favorite hut tub and in each other’s arms. They whispered sweet nothings, promises of better times and reassurances of love as they soaked their joined bodies in the hot water, letting the action melt all their fears, doubts, and old nightmares away.

For them, this trip signaled more than just a vacation but it was really a matter of leaving the last year behind. Not only what had happened to them, but also to Sam, Owen, and to their family as a whole. They had needed the days to finally breathe and enjoy the mere fact that they were still alive and, more importantly, together. Eventually, they would have to go back to the realities and uncertainties of their lives and jobs but at least these few days had given them a little respite from all that.

They got to the airport feeling fresh and recharged, as always happy to be with each other, but also eager to get back to the rest of their family and hoping for a perfect New Year along with them, and hopefully an even better 2018, given all they had lost in 2017…

La Joie de Vivre: Paris 32mm

Just came from Le Caveau de la Huchette - yes, the jazz club from La-La-Land. I didn’t know this, until I was at the door. I was just looking for a fun place to have a drink or two on a Thursday night and what a joy I found. I literally found the joy of life, or the Parisian way - la joie de vivre.

These people, they were so immerse into the beat, it was très magnifique. Specially there was this one women, with style and grace, short hair, long earrings, long skirt -long according to her age but edgy enough let her wave and move around-, without a bra, laughing and shaking her arms towards the back while killing the dance floor at the beat and rhythm of bebop with his partner, a black man with a white haired afro, with the same big smile and crazy moves as her. It was amazing. I only felt tele transported like this before and it was at Nicky’s, the best Speakeasy bar in Buenos Aires. But this was the real deal: I am in Paris, living the late roaring 20s, in between wars after the American soldiers fought in Paris, in a lost cave right next Ile de cité, few blocks away from Notre Dame. 

photocredits: Black Label Media  Although I must confess I was expecting to meet my Ryan Gosling - and yes, I did remember our dance mov(i)es - I met Mr. PH, or Pierre-Henri, the lovely Swedish/French, who lived in Utah from Uppsala. It’s amazing to be able to connect with all these people through music, regardless of age and origin, and this was even more special due to my Swedish experience. We danced and laughed a lot. I proudly made a fool of myself and decided I’m gonna learn this dance once Im back in NYC. Then I met Maurice, a younger, intriguing French guy with whom we danced more upbeat my-hips-dont-lie songs. That was some intense moves going on there! I had such a wonderful time I couldn’t wait to come home to write about it, I hope to make justice to the amazing experience I just had. Walking down the Seine, as Owen Willson in Midnight in Paris, I came back home - to this evil, evil Airbnb, not without stoping by the Louvre and enjoying all its secrets, changing my movie switch to the Da Vinci Code.

It’s still mesmerizes me how much these narratives shape our collective perspectives on the world. I was thinking about this exact same issue while walking down my office’s street the other day, back in NY, and saw a couple of police patrols going around like crazy, with a black SUV that looked as if it was from the FBI and a small but intense manifestation. I was surprised on how quiet the protesters were after the police cars passed by and didn’t make much sense to me. That was when I finally realized I was living this meta-reality and was tricked by my very own mind: this was all a set up for Gotham and I thought it was the real deal. I couldn’t stop laughing and my mind exploded for a couple of very long minutes trying to understand and process all these realities happening at the same time in my head!  So yes, this is my tribute to them, to the movies, to those little pieces of realities that we share in 32 mm (or blue ray, but that way is not that picturesque any more) And it feels weird that I start this tribute in Paris and not in New York, but I guess the NYC experience still feels a little bit surreal to me. At least here I know I’m not staying for good, I’m just here for 10 days, so I guess that makes me way more objective, an eager observer and an obsessed analytic of every minute.

I deserved some celebration after the success on the US embassy, so I decided to start with the simplest thing: let’s go for dinner! I went for my poulette avec pomme de terre but since it only came with fries, I switched it for the plat du soir and felt a little bit of the Jack Nicholson’s magic on Something Gotta Give at the Grand Colbert restaurant.  

I ended up in the most surreal circumstances on a Friday’s night. Lost, during a thin-rainy eve in Paris, searching for hidden wifi hotspots in order to reach my destination: a typical French bistro by Le Marais. What I didnt realized, was that I was gonna run into this typical French guy called William. William, is actually a PHD professor and researcher from Atlanta- although he has been living in France since forever, and as per a Woody Allen movie, he was wearing a brown suit jacket which was double his proper size. He was also wearing bigger trousers -not pants- and we debated about morality, existence and transcendence of matter and language over the Frankfurt School, Marcuse, Horkheimer, Adorno for more than 4 hours, having wine, charcuterie and terrine. It was a very nice movie cliche to experience without even planning it!

Who knew Paris was so famous in movies? I mean, of course in the collective imagery it is, but I didn’t actually realize the size nor the amount of “featured time” Paris have in this movie so called life. After my wonderful La-La-Land experience, my expectations were high and difficult to match, but oh you, dear Amélie, that was a hell of a Saturday we shared together! 

I went to Montmartre and started my film on the Abesees station, right next to the carrousel, close to her apartment. After a beautiful morning stroll with the sun on my face and the joy on each and every single pore of my being, I found the Cafe des 2 Moulins, where she enjoys the small but amazing things of life. Little did I know that not only the creme brûlée was gonna be amazing, but the atmosphere and the memories would be as such! The waiter became my fan: he noticed I was writing in my journal and started hitting on me with the sweetest and cheesiest lines ever, talking about the movie, practicing and mixing English and French, gifting me a pain au chocolat, drawing a heart gesture on the air before giving it to me. He even dared to asked for my number in the most courageous yet sweet way imaginable! It really made my day. Thanks Jullien, that was fun! Of course I also checked out the Studio 28 Cinema, where Amelie enjoys her movies. BITES & KMS SAYS: That’s a meta-hyper reality indeed: Amelie, a fictional character which I watch, goes and watches movies to the cinema in a narrative fiction, located on the same place I am standing right now in real life, thinking and wondering about what that character would be feeling at that moment, with the difference that I am feeling it right now. Wow #mindblown

Of course, I couldn’t stop singing My Song, performed by Christian (Ewan McGregor), feeling a little bit like Satine from Moulin Rouge, while going up and down hills. I hate Boulevard de Clichy, I absolutely hate it: it’s dirty, touristy, with no style nor personality, full of weird people in the bad sense weird can be understood. But well, even though the Bal du Moulin Rouge is located there, this is not whatsoever the best part of the Quarter. So, I kept my musical dream alive and went around the other small and hidden streets. I actually found a spot, which was absolutely perfect. I needed to stop and write about it. My piece of paper said something like this: “Little pieces of Paris, small and unique as the cobblestones of their streets, where only the little birds sing and the sun warms the soul, in between the distant buzz and talks from the tourists.” I imagine a little chambre on one of those top balconies, with lovers singing to each other, having sex and drinking wine in bed at 11 am on a Sunday, waiting to be drunk again to keep sleeping. I stopped by this wonderful Bistro called Le Sancerre. I had my first glass of champagne and had a delicious lunch, falling in love with all these movies, one scene at a time.

The following day I had a very specific location in mind: the Coulee Verte Rene Dumont: secret lover gardens. Only true Parisians go there and take their dates in hopes of some French kiss action. It is quite far off the tourist circuit, and that made me realized how the US is a rough copy of the best of France, with a very local spin. The Highline, that architecture phenomenon everyone is proud of, already existed here in Paris more than a century ago, and still lingers today. So, sorry Paula Scher, there’s nothing new under the sun. And talking about the sun, this was the setting for Before Sunset. I went there to seek inspiration and to reflect upon that proper dialogue that happens in the movie. Was sex with Ethan Hawke that forgettable or was it actually remarkable? Was he really happy with his wife? Why aren’t they together? Are they meant to be? 

I guess there is just time to listen to some Nina Simone - which, for the time being, we can switch for French Edit Piaf or Italian Mina- and to whomever is asking when I’m flying back, I’m just gonna do as Ethan Hawke:

About Last Night

I am currently sitting in the airport waiting to board my flight and I’m going on two hours of sleep, so I’m pretty tired (but it’s worth it). I’m reminiscing about the last 24 hours of my life, and I am in complete awe. As a writer, you would think that I would know just what to say, but alas, even writers are at a loss for words sometimes. I don’t know how this is going to come out, but I am going to try my best.

I have been listening to East of Eli’s music since his first EP, “Nothing Ordinary,” came out in 2014 (if you haven’t heard it, check it out). I was lucky enough to see EOE at The Troubadour in LA in March, and seeing him live for the first time was like a dream. Nathan was absolutely amazing, and I knew that I wanted to see him again. So when he announced a concert in New York, I wanted to go. I had never been to New York, and what better excuse to go than to see an artist that has impacted you so much, am I right? Anyway, I looked at the date and realized that it was going to be during my spring break (I’m a writing student at the Vancouver Film School), and I was already planning on going home to KC to visit family and friends. I immediately thought of my sister, and figured that maybe we could make a little sister trip out of it. Unfortunately, the concert was a 21+ venue and my sister is only 15, so that wouldn’t work. Luckily, EOE was able to sell out that venue, so that allowed them to set up another concert the same week for all ages. At that moment, I was like, “I don’t know how I’m going to make this happen, but I am going to get my sister and I to that show if it’s the last thing I do!” And I did! After lots of negotiating with my parents, they finally agreed to let us go. So the week of my spring break came around, and I got to catch up with family and friends. Yesterday morning, my sister and I got up at 4am to make our flight to New York. After a layover and a grounded plane in Milwaukee, we finally made it to New York. I love cities, they just amaze me, so as soon as we were outside of the airport, I was ready to explore. My poor sister on the other hand is a country girl at heart. She lives for trap shooting and riding dirt bikes (we are the complete opposite in every way, but we are really great friends), so she was not as thrilled about being in the big city. After getting lost with our cab driver, and an hour drive to our hotel took us three hours, we were tired, but we knew we should try and see some of the city. So of course, me being the pizza lover that I am (I even brought my PJ pants that have pizza hearts all over them with me), told my sister we had to try authentic NY pizza while we were there, so we did. I was stuffed by the end of it, but it was definitely delicious. We then decided to embark on an adventure and take the subway to Central Park (luckily I’ve had experience with subways in Vancouver and in Berlin, so it wasn’t that difficult to figure out). Central Park was really pretty, but we didn’t get to stay long because we had to get back to our hotel to get ready for the concert.

Now, the concert. The concert is where the real magic began. We get to the venue and the line is insane to get in which just fills my heart with such joy to see so many people coming out to support Nathan and Chyler. We finally get inside and it’s about 15 minutes or so before EOE comes out. Now, for those who don’t know, this past week has been a rocky road for Nathan and his family. Last Monday, he got a call telling him that his father was losing his battle with cancer. He spent that next week by his side, and he wanted to cancel the shows (rightfully so), but his dad said no. His dad’s wish for him was to “carry on” (from “The Siege,” which according to Nathan is his dad’s favorite song) and play these shows in New York. I can only imagine how difficult it was for Nathan to have to make that choice, knowing that at any moment, his dad could no longer be on this earth. But Nathan made the choice, and he chose to follow his father’s wishes and continue on to NY. That only made me admire Nathan more than I already did because that kind of choice takes an enormous amount of strength. This just showed more clearly the depth of his character and the size of his heart. I have such respect for him. Then on top of that, yesterday, T-Mobile shut of Nathan and Chyler’s phone numbers, so they had no way of contacting each other. Luckily, Nathan and Chyler have some of the most amazing fans out there, and they were able to get the attention of the CEO of T-Mobile. Because of all of this, they got their phone numbers back. There is power in numbers, and when you set your mind to something, there really is nothing you can’t do. This was such a great example of that. You would think that this was enough adversity for one family in one week, but sadly this was not the last part of sad news. Nathan announced when he got on stage that there were some issues with Chyler’s flight and she was currently grounded in Toronto. Chyler was of course upset because she had missed Tuesdays’s concert to be with her kids and family in LA, and so she wanted to be here. Of course, everyone was sad, but it was understandable. Things happen, they suck, but we have to make the most of the situation and just keep going. Nathan and Chyler, being the awesome humans that they are, said that they were going to do everything in their power to get Chyler there and to make sure she got to meet every single person. Nathan continued on with the show, adding in some fun things to try and drag out the time, especially when we found out that Chyler was finally in the air and so she was on her way. Like always, he was amazing! His voice is incredible, and his lyrics are beyond compare. I have to say, EOE at The Troubadour was great, but there was something extra special about last night. Nathan brought multiple fans onto the stage, he goofed off, and he even tried singing a song from his first EP. The last one was the best because he’s only human, and so he was having a hard time remembering all of the words. The concert eventually ended, but he wanted us to hang out until Chyler could get there. We went to the front room, and I went with my sister towards the bar area and sat. Chyler showed up like 30 minutes later, and everyone was so excited. Chyler is a trooper. She was going on maybe two hours of sleep after finishing up her last scene of the season on Supergirl, and yet she was still here for her fans. Nathan and Chyler performed two songs together acoustically, and it was beautiful. After that, they made their way to an area of the room to do meet and greets. I stayed with my sister at the bar because: 1. just being in super large crowds in enclosed spaces makes be kind of anxious and 2. I had met Chyler briefly before, so I wanted to make sure everyone else got their chance. If I did’ t get to say hi, it wasn’t as big of a deal. So I was at the bar, and I started talking with the bartenders. John and Eric were so much fun! They offered up so awesome conversation, and they were great company while I was there with my sister. My sister and I had a blast chatting with them, and then Dre, the security guard, when he came and joined us (Dre actually thought I was an undercover cop, so that was both funny and awesome at the same time). I want to take a quick moment to thank all of the people working last night at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn because they went above and beyond for us. This definitely includes John and Eric. John was sweet and he gave me a RedBull for free since I was tired, and then when he went to the store, he got my sister a banana. It was nice to make a friend in NY that said that if we were ever there again, they have an extra bed that we could crash in. I also got a sweet fox mask thing from Dre as a souvenir, so that’s pretty cool. Nathan came over at one point to thank John and Eric himself. He told them about everything that had happened that day, and how much it meant to him that they were doing this for us. John and Eric continued to keep my sister and I company until we ended up having to move outside because the bar was closing. My sister and I got in line outside and began waiting our turn. Nathan, again, being the amazing human he is, decided to give each of us still waiting a t-shirt for free. My sister and I were at the end of the line, so when he got to us, he stayed and talked for a minute. The first words out of my sister’s mouth were, “Brr it’s cold out here,” so Nathan so properly responded with, “There must be some Torros in the atmosphere.” My sister, whom I’ve been trying for a while to get to watch Bring It On, just stood there. I high-fived Nathan of course, because the reference was just beautiful. Gotta love some Jan the man. He then gave my sister a giant hug because she was absolutely exhausted. He was like a dad comforting his daughter, and it was such an amazing sight to see. He is just so genuine, and I can’t believe I’ve had the honor of meeting him. We eventually made it up to the front of the line to talk to Chyler, and Chyler gave my sister the biggest hug in the world. Like I said before, I have had the incredible pleasure of meeting Chyler before, but the only thing I’ve gotten to say to her was hi and that’s about it, so I was looking forward to a hug (my friend, Dened, has gotten many from her and she likes to say how great they are). I finally got my hug, and it was great. She’s just so sweet, gentle and kind, so of course her hug was very comforting. There was so much that I wanted to say, but I didn’t want to keep my sister out any longer. She had already came all the way to NY just for me, and was out at 5am when she had only gotten three hours of sleep the night before. My sister is a rockstar, and I am pretty lucky to have her (even if we disagree on 90% of things).

Last night, only proceeded to reaffirm all of my beliefs about Nathan and Chyler. I love what they are doing. They are using their power of influence to not only impact and change the community around them, but also the global community. They are such amazing people with huge hearts. They believe in family, and putting family first. Even though we aren’t their direct family, they treated us like family last night. They took their time, as tired as they were, to speak to each and every one of us. I admire them so much for that. What I love about them, is that they are open about their old baggage and dirty laundry, letting it be known, so that they can hopefully inspire others. They don’t try and hide their faults or their downfalls (we are all human after all). Along with that, I love the representation they are for the Christian community. Too many times nowadays, when people hear you are a Christian, they automatically assume you are going to be judgmental and rude, which sadly is not too far off for a lot of them. Chyler and Nathan on the other hand, are great embodiments of what it truly means to be a Christian (in my opinion). They show so much love to everyone, and Chyler is such an example, especially as she is playing the character of Alex Danvers on The CW’s, Supergirl. On the show, Alex recently realized that she was gay when Detective Maggie Sawyer entered her life. They are now together and are so cutely named, Sanvers. I think that this is one of the greatest things she could be doing for many reasons. One, her relationship on the show is such a healthy example of a relationship (especially for a queer couple). Then, I feel like this is a great thing because she is a Christian. She is showing that love is love, and it shouldn’t matter as long as you love each other. I think that that is a beautiful thing. I admired her so much more when this storyline came to be because of the impact I knew it would have. I struggle with being a Christian and supporting the LGBTQ community because so many Christians are so against it. I just don’t understand how a God who loves all (even the murderers), could hate someone who happens to fall in love with someone of the same sex. And Chyler has been outspoken about this as well. I remember watching an interview where she talked about this, and I cried. I cried because it was great to see someone with such influence who has the same beliefs as me. I am so grateful that Nathan and Chyler are in this world, spreading love and kindness with all that they do. Thank you for being prime examples of what it means to be human, and to love your neighbor. Thank you for taking so much time out of your day last night (and this morning) to meet each and every one of your fans. Most people wouldn’t do something like that, so thank you. You two are true heroes, and I pray that God blesses you immensely. I also pray that as your family is going through this difficult time, that you are able to find solace in him and in each other. Thank you again for everything. Thank you for being the role models this world needs. Thank you for inspiring others with your music and your words. Thank you for being superheroes to us all. Thank you.

Wow! This was a lot more than I thought I was going to say, but I wanted to get this all out. The past 24 hours truly has been magical, and I will never forget it. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I can’t wait until I get to see this amazing band again in July when they perform at The Roxy along with City of Sound and State to State (both of whom are amazing and deserve your attention as well). I know y’all asked for one for twice as girlfriends and then boyfriends separately, but I don’t have lot of time on my hands and gender doesn’t really affect a relationship that much so I’m just going to do this as Twice when they’re in a relationship. 

Nayeon - That Aesthetic ThoShe’s gonna drag her partner on dates to chic coffee shops and both of them will probably spend most of the time taking beautiful candids of each other that make their date look like something out of a dramatic movie. So many couples clothes, and carefully planned outfits so the two look perfect whenever they go outside. In public they have a carefully crafted image, but home alone together, Nayeon would literally just binge watch dramas with her partner. 

Jeongyeon - Together Against the WorldWhen she’s in a relationship, Jeongyeon is going to be practically attached to her partner at all times. She won’t be big on PDA, but she’ll always be at her partners side and if they can’t actually spend time together, it will be constant and non-stop texting. They would do practically everything together, and be impossibly comfortable around each other to the point where it’s uncomfortable when they’re away from each other. 

Momo - Sudden AttackMomo wouldn’t change much in a relationship, there’d just be an extra person that she sometimes gets really affectionate with. But sometimes, Momo will just pull romantic gestures out of nowhere and completely surprise her partner, but they wouldn’t be cliche things, she’d buy gifts that have a lot of special meaning to her partner. Lots of PDA, mostly hand holding and occasionally putting an arm around each other’s shoulders. 

Sana - Did Someone Say Rose PetalsHonestly Sana is a hopeless romantic so dating her would consist mostly of her planing over the top extravagant and romantic dates at restaurants. So much PDA, you wouldn’t even believe, she would be all over her partner constantly. Romantic gestures left right and centre, mostly consisting of flowers and chocolates. When she’s away from her partner she would send so many cute text messages.

Jihyo - Soulmate Material Jihyo is an unbelievably genuine human so in a relationship you know she’s going to be the most openly caring and loving person possible. She will dote on whoever she’s dating and rather than going on extravagant dates she’d prefer something small that allows them to get to know each other better. She would be so unbelievably sentimental in a relationship and her favourite thing would be talking to her partner and anything and everything without any worries.

Mina - *Blushes Nervously*Super shy and cute at first, she’s going to be very awkward and will probably require her partner to take the lead. Really she’d be the biggest cutie to date, even when she gets past her shyness pretty much every she does would be really cute. Cute carnival dates and most of the time spent with her partner would be at home playing video games together and getting really playfully competitive with one another. 

Dahyun - Extra CheeseDahyun would be the most extra person when she’s in a relationship and everything she does would be beyond cheesy. There would be so much cliche nonsense in her relationship, honestly it would be at another level. Most of the time she and her partner would just go around having fun together and acting extra about everything, they would probably the couple who play around in fountains like it’s a damn movie scene or something.

Chaeyoung - Art Hoe DuoArt gallery dates, museum dates, dates at hipster coffee shops and restaurants, you name an art hoe location, Chae and her partner are probably there. Chae would be the kind of person who likes trying new things with her partner, and would like to go on a lot of adventures with them that probably include travelling to new and exciting places. She’d also spend a lot of free time sketching her partner because she’s lame like that. 

Tzuyu - You’re Ok I GuessI don’t imagine Tzuyu being the most sentimental person when it comes to dating and being in a relationship. She and her partner would spend a lot of time together going on dates they both enjoy. Skinship would be rare and mostly consist of hugs because Tzuyu would probably be too nervous about holding hands in public. She’d get really awkward when trying to express her feelings, and won’t necessarily say what she wants to, but her partner would understand exactly what she’s trying to say
