(I'm filling this expressly about fanfiction because the rest of my writing might operate a bit differently and I haven't done a lot of it for a while.)

Do you write in order? Almost never. Maybe something that will come to less than a few pages will accidentally end up being written in order. If I ever did a longer multi-chapter fic I'd probably still have to finish most of it before I could even consider publishing the first chapter.

How fully formed does your writing come out the first try? Not very. A lot of sentences do come out the way they will end up being, but as for the bigger picture, I usually only find out where exactly it's going on the way.

How many drafts do you go through? hard to define what constitutes a draft tbh. I don't ever finish one version and start from the top, though; I'm usually writing new stuff and editing previous stuff at the same time. I create a new copy if I decide to take something in a different direction than what I've already written but want to keep the old version.

Tell me about your process. it is a mess! I'm not a big planner and I often find that if I have too much of an outline, actually writing it gets boring. I usually start with a thought or image or sentence, and even if I have an overall idea, it will change or be filled in as I see where the writing takes me. Often, at its most satisfying, in that way where at some point you realize "oh this was what I was writing towards all along".

Like I said, I write and edit at the same time and move back and forth and all over the place a lot. Depending on the piece I might also write scenes without knowing how they connect or even what order they'll end up being in.

I do my damnedest not to do any hard work, so if something is not coming out I move on, maybe with a few notes on what should happen, and hope that it will come to me later. Trying to force it doesn't get very good writing out of me. In general I'm enjoying taking a desire path through writing.

I write shorter pieces light on the plot, though, so that's probably more forgiving to this approach.

Because I read my shit so much while writing it, doing a final read-through can feel like a bit of a chore. At that point I usually listen to the whole thing via text-to-speech, which makes it easier to catch awkward sentences etc. etc. (I know some people read their own work out loud - I might do this with poetry but with prose I'm too impatient and also I get too wrapped up in my own performance instead of actually focusing on the text.)

I tend to have a "deleted scenes & extras" document even for short fics. "Extras" are usually bits that are never intended to be part of the actual fic, such as working through motivations or character history in more overt language or writing from another character's pov to work out a scene I'm stuck on.

My Drawing Process

So, finally getting around to sharing my process. I feel so bad that this took so long to finally do, but better late than never? Also, please bear in mind that I am mostly self-taught, so if I'm doing things funkily, that's probably why.

This is gonna be a long post, so I'm putting it under the cut.

First step is gathering references. This takes… So. Much. Time. Because it never feels like I can find the ideal one for what I'm picturing in my head? (Also, because I end up distracted and gathering ones I don't need, but the ADHD is strong in this one.) I usually end up using multiple references for various aspects and kind of Frankenstein-ing them together (like, one might involve the initial placement of two figures hugging, but then I'll find another to place an arm differently, or to help depict a different body type than the first reference. Oftentimes this involves using the "perspective" feature of "transform a layer or selection" on Krita for positioning a reference.)

I tend to keep different linework in various bright colors to help myself differentiate between them, keeping several separate layers, and later merging (and ideally labelling) them. For example, I'll have several hair layers as I add details and whatnot, and will only combine them into one layer once I'm satisfied with how everything looks. Linework involves a bunch of redrawing for me as I play around with things to get them to look the way I want, so I make a bunch of copies as I tweak different lines in case I bork something up and need to revert to an old copy (I'll periodically go through and delete old copies as I improve said lines.)

This is the point where I'll color my lines black, though if it's difficult to differentiate between certain lines, I might leave certain lines colored until the flat colors are done.

Next is getting my flat colors done, usually taking from the original color-scheme if it's fan-art of a non-original character. I usually keep a little labelled swatch like the one in the upper right.

Then we get to the fun part that I hate and love in equal measure: shading and highlights!

I'll usually start with adding pink-ish tones to the areas that have the concentration of blood-flow- cheeks, tip of the nose, etc. (Though, I don't think I did with this one, so I don't have an example to show, oops.) Then I'll move onto shading, following a reference typically for a basic idea of where the contours need to be, but a lot of this ends up being intuitive. I like to use a combination of the wet paint brush, the soft airbrush, and the basic blender- often setting it to a lower opacity as I blend/soften edges and switching the eraser setting on and off. I try to move my brush strokes in directions that follow the shape of the contours themselves - as if it were a 3d model (does the way I'm describing that make sense? I hope so.)

I like to play with different filters on the layer setting to get the color/concentration I want for this - "Shade - IFS Illusions" gets used a lot, though typically set to less than 50% transparency and often in combination with another lower transparency layer or two, I play with layers to get the looks I want.

Post-blending:

Then adding extra details- in this case, slight creases and stubble, etc.

Then highlights- I love using the "Luminosity/Shine SAI" layer filter for this- gives it a nice glow. Same as before, I might have several layers for highlights, at various transparencies to achieve a certain look.

Then I'll add more details, usually focusing on things like clothes.

Then the background. I do not love doing background stuff, but I am very grateful for finding FizzyFlower's Essential Brushes- it has sooo many helpful brushes.

Annnd that's about it. I hope it was helpful and not too rambly.

You groan softly, before turning around and stopping your alarm.

It’s Sunday, which normally meant no alarm and sleeping in, but you had plans. Today is Mother’s Day. You normally spent it with your mother going out for brunch, shopping, going to the movies, etc. but in the last year, you had moved in with Chris and he lived really far away from your parents’ house. You had told your mom that you were going to call her, first thing this morning, to make up for not being able to be with her.

Since you were in Boston with Chris, you were going to be spending Mother’s Day at his mom’s house. This meant a big dinner, but it also meant you had to make some food to take it there.

Every single time you went to Lisa’s house, you always brought something whether it was a meal, dessert, wine or a gift. And every single time you brought something, she said you didn’t have to do that. You couldn’t help it though; it was just how you were raised. Your parents always told you to never show up empty-handed when someone invited you to their home and that’s exactly what you did.

Today, you were making apple pie for dessert which meant fresh apples and going to the grocery store right at the opening.

Rubbing your eyes, you push the covers off your body and walk to the ensuite bathroom. While brushing your teeth, you take your phone and open Instagram. The first post you see is one that Scott posted a couple of minutes ago. The first picture is a collage of a bunch of pictures of him and his mom. You smile softly at their smiles in the pictures. Sliding, you see other collages with pictures of Scott’s friends and their kids. You double-click on the post, leaving a like, and slide down to the second post. Of course, it’s Chris’ post to his mom. The first picture is an old picture of them holding each other and smiling. You slide and see that the second picture is from when he took her to the Winter Soldier premiere. You double-click again, liking the post. You’re about to put your phone down to take a shower but see a bunch of notifications appearing on your screen.

Confused, you refresh your Instagram feed and see a new post by Chris appearing at the top. You frown, seeing yourself from the back in the first picture. You slide down to the caption and gasp softly as you read it: “Also, happy Mother’s Day to this beautiful woman! We may not have any babies but you sure as hell are Dodger’s mom. Kinda hate that he likes you more than me now but it’s okay because I love you💙”

You smile as you go through the pictures he posted. The first one is a picture you didn’t even know he had taken from when Dodger, Chris and you had gone on a picnic a couple of days ago. The second is a pretty dark and blurry picture that he obviously hid to take. You recognize the angle being from the entrance of the living room. You were laying on the couch, engulfed in a fluffy blanket, with Dodger laying in front of you, his head resting on your stomach. You smile softly, remembering that day.

It was a couple of months ago and you were on your period. You normally didn’t have really big cramps but the stress you were feeling had intensified them and you were almost unable to move. When Chris had come back from work, seeing you laying on the couch in pain, he had gone right back out to get you a bunch of food to satisfy your cravings and half a dozen hot compresses because he wasn’t sure which one you would like.

Chuckling softly, you slide to the last picture, slightly cringing at your appearance. It was a screenshot from a FaceTime call, right after you had moved in with Chris. He had to leave for a few weeks to film and you were alone with Dodger, who always wanted to see Chris before you hung up. In the picture, you had clearly just woken up and were laughing, probably at something Chris said, with half of Dodger’s face mid-bark in the frame.

You like the post and scroll through a couple of comments, some nice, others not so much, before putting your phone down.

While in the shower, your mind goes back to a conversation you had with Chris recently. It was after your first big fight.

Everyone knew Chris wanted kids and you obviously did too. But he had brought it up accusingly when you were exhausted and anxious and you had blurted out that you didn’t want kids. It wasn’t really the truth because you did want kids. And you wanted them with Chris, but you weren’t ready. After you had said that, you had a screaming match with Chris that ended up with you sleeping in the guest room, not that much sleeping was done. Halfway through the night, Chris had knocked on the door, asking if you were awake, and you talked to each other, explaining both of your viewpoints: you felt like you weren’t ready to be a good mom to a child because you were still dealing with trauma from when you were younger, and Chris felt like his clock was running out. After talking to each other, you had settled on kids in the near future, but not right now.

Getting dressed after your shower, you think about the fact that you hadn’t heard a peep from Chris since you had woken up. Considering it was Sunday and Mother’s Day, you knew he couldn’t have scheduled a meeting today. He sometimes ran or worked out on Sundays, but you had been up for almost 2 hours now.

Walking to the kitchen, you open your Messages app, ready to send him a text asking where he is when you hear, “Dodge, stop, let it go.”

Frowning, you start deleting the message when you hear, “Happy Mother’s Day!”

You shriek, startled, before letting out, “Holy shit!”

You look up at the dining room that is completely decorated. There are colorful banners all around the walls and the table is filled with food from waffles and pancakes to fruits and drinks. Finally, Chris and Dodger are standing in the corner of the room in front of balloons that spell out “MMO❤️”. You frown, tilting your head. Chris’s smile falters as he turns around, groaning, “Dodger, I told you to stop moving the balloons.”

He turns around completely, arranging the balloons to say “MOM❤️” and turns back around, saying, “Ta-da!”

You laugh loudly before walking to Chris, hugging him.

“When did you have time to do all this?”

Chris smiles, holding your waist, before yawning and saying, “I got up at like 6 to make all the food and then I got the balloons when the mall opened at 8.”

You wrap your arms around Chris before kissing his cheek.

“Well, thank you, I love it. And I love you.”

You bite your bottom lip, flicking your eyes down to his lips, before leaning towards him. Chris smirks, letting his hand slide to your butt cheek, softly squeezing it before you hear a small whine. You stop moving, slowly looking down. Dodger looks up at you with his big brown eyes, rubbing his snout on your leg.

You smile softly, letting go of Chris before bending down and petting his head.

“You want some love too, huh, Dodge?”

You rub the back of Dodger’s ears, hearing a click sound. You turn around, seeing Chris with his phone in his hand. You smile, saying, “Did you just take a picture?”

Chris smiles softly, “No?”

You chuckle, sitting down and gesturing at Chris to join you. Chris takes one of your hands in his and pets Dodger with the other. You alternate looking at Chris and Dodger before sighing and cupping Chris’ face in your hands. You kiss him softly, leaning back and saying, “I love you, baby.”

Chris smiles softly, replying, “I love you too.”

You look down, sighing softly. Chris lifts your head up, giving you a knowing look, “What’s wrong, baby?”

You chuckle at how perfectly he knows you.

“I know I said I wasn’t ready, but I think maybe I am.”

Chris’ smile widens slowly before he says, “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”

You nod your head excitedly and Chris lunges at you, tackling you to the ground, planting kisses all over your face. You laugh softly, hearing Dodger bark, before he excitedly starts jumping around Chris and you.

Chris leans back slightly before whispering, “You’re gonna be the best mom, I just know it.”

You smile softly, kissing his cheek and wrapping your arms around him.

TW Suicide Attempt

Hey, I don't know who else to ask. I'm seeing a new therapist and I want to start fresh. I'm particularly haunted by my last relationship, and I'm not sure if I was abused, but I'd like to mention it to my therapist first if I was.

My ex started out normal, but after a while he asked me to delete pics with my exes. I thought nothing of it, because I didn't care if I had the pictures or not. I also used to be a model, and he asked me to delete nudes, and I did. Then he said I should stop modeling, and I agreed, even though I wanted to model. And then he made me take down non-nude modeling photos, and made me delete them off my hard drive. And would get mad if they were on a USB that I forgot to check, or if some were online because photographers didn't want to take them down (as was their right per our contracts). He'd stress me out, tell me to talk to everyone who had my pictures, etc. Then he asked me to throw out things that were my exes (presents, stuff that was theirs originally but they gave me, my stuff that I had left over at their houses), and after that, all my modeling clothes and prints. I didn't want to and we got into a huge fight. I generally don't raise my voice at all (actually I speak so low most people have trouble hearing me), but I did that time and every time it came up until I finally threw everything out. And then one day I found a sex toy his ex had left over (she had left over all her stuff and never picked it up, but he swore he'd thrown everything out), and I flipped out because it was in the nightstand we shared, just buried under stuff. And I felt gross and used, and well, he made me throw out all my exes stuff, even silly stuff that had no feelings attached and was just nice to have. And we had a big fight. We used to fight a lot at first, and it's all blurry, I just remember once he pinned me down, and choked me so I wouldn't leave, so the next time when I wanted to leave, I hit him with a perfume bottle (he was fine, didn't even get a bruise or anything).

And after he agreed to move to another place (a neutral location), things kind of calmed down, although we did fight once and neighbours heard. I don't know what to think because everyone says I abused him, and his family even blocked me after the break up.

Everyone thought I was unfair and treated him badly. I definitely don't see that, but I'm not sure if he abused me or not.

Most of the time I complied because I didn't have any place else to go, and didn't want to be homeless. When he broke up with me I attempted suicide and ended up hospitalized and later homeless anyway.

We had some happy times though, bug I just don't know what to think. I just feel weird and haunted and anxious after this relationship, and I'm scared to ever be in one again.

Oh, and I'm the anon who just asked if maybe I was abused by my ex. I forgot to say he didn't want to go to my parents house because he knew one of my exes stayed over when I was alone, and he didn't want me to go visit them often.

He also made me cut out everyone on my life who I ever dated, kissed/made out with, or had a crush on.

And he'd get mad if my family displayed my model photos, or photos with a vintage family dress that I wore as a model in a photoshoot with my ex.

He'd also complain if I made plans with friends, because I was going to spend too much money, or stay out too late, or walk home late at night (which I did frequently before).

He was abused by his previous girlfriend (or at least that's what he told me, he said I could look at the messages between them if I wanted, but I refused).

He also made me throw out my favorite top because he knew it's what I was wearing the last time I had sex with my ex before him (we were friends before and I told him, and he had seen me that night, so he knew what I was wearing, and it was a very very specific top).

For starters, I need you to know that what you’ve described is an extremely abusive relationship, not just a “possibly” abusive relationship, and I think it’s important for you to know exactly why that is:

He got violent with you. This alone is enough to make the relationship dangerously and severely abusive. Your ex pinned you down and choked you when you tried to walk away from an encounter. That’s an actual felony; people do prison time for that. Choking is a particularly dangerous form of abuse - he could have very easily killed you or caused some permanent damage. 

He couldn’t handle the fact that you had exes, and he dealt with it in the least healthy way possible. Your ex-partner’s obsession with your exes was beyond unhealthy. Forcing you to throw out perfectly good clothing or non-sentimental items because they had some association with your ex is unhinged. In a healthy relationship, both people understand that their partner is not with their ex anymore, and trust that the other person isn’t going to fall madly in love with their ex again just by using a toaster that the ex once used to make breakfast. Being able to cope with the fact that your partner once loved and had sex with someone else is a bare minimum requirement for a healthy adult relationship. No exceptions. It seems clear that you were never going to reach a point where he felt you’d done “enough” to purge your exes from your life - he was going to keep obsessing and keep whittling away at your life, without ever being satisfied that you were truly “his”. 

He was dangerously jealous. The level of jealousy that your ex showed was abusive, and potentially life-threatening. As I’ve already mentioned, it’s not normal for a partner to be fixated that hard on a partner’s ex. It’s also alarming that he was so obsessed with the fact that revealing photos of you might exist somewhere. You are allowed to have photos of yourself on your own hard drive, nude or otherwise. That’s your fucking business. You don’t have to justify keeping those photos - no one has a right to tell you to delete them. Not even a partner. You did nothing wrong here. It sounds like he couldn’t handle the fact that other men found you attractive, and he decided to punish you for it. That’s not okay. 

He was controlling. In a healthy relationship, you are allowed to wear what you want. You are allowed to decide which possessions you want to keep - even if that includes hanging onto old gifts from an ex. You are allowed to meet with friends, spend your money, and stay out late sometimes if you want to. You are allowed to model if you want to, and you are allowed to have photos of yourself on your own personal devices and give others the right to use and display those photos. It’s a bare minimum requirement that a partner treat you like an adult and respect your choices, even if they don’t always agree with them. The level of control that your ex tried to have over your life was absolutely unacceptable, and it was abusive. 

He intentionally sabotaged your career. You had a career as a model, and you enjoyed doing it. He made you stop. That’s not acceptable. Your partner couldn’t handle his own jealousy and insecurities, so he made you stop doing something that you were good at, something you did professionally. That’s another form of control, and it’s abusive. In a healthy relationship, partners support one another’s careers and passions. They don’t intentionally derail the other person for their own selfish reasons. He had no right to tell you to stop modelling, and he had no right to demand that you delete the products of your work. 

He socially isolated you. He kept you away from your friends and controlled how often you could see them. It sounds like he might have intentionally turned some of your loved ones against you. That’s a common tactic of abusers. When you are cut off from friends - or when they are no longer on your side - it’s harder for you to leave the relationship, because you no longer have someone to turn to for help leaving. In a healthy relationship, your partner encourages you to have friends and to make them a priority in your life. 

He made you responsible for his emotions, and held you to a double standard. Whenever HE was upset, YOU had to drastically change your life to suit his feelings. When YOU were upset at finding his ex’s sex toy in the nightstand, he got angry with you for being upset - he didn’t make changes to his life for your comfort, but expected you to do it for him. That’s not okay. A partner who is unwilling to take responsibility for their own emotions is a dangerous partner - and sure enough, he turned violent when you got upset with him. A healthy partner recognizes that their emotions are their responsibility, and they deal with their insecurities without taking it out on their partner. 

He trapped you in a situation where you could never win. Your abusive ex was fixated on things that you could never change - the fact that you had exes, the fact that you modelled, the fact that other people had old modelling shots of you. There was no way for you to ever change those things; you couldn’t go back in time and un-date your exes. So he just kept holding those things over your head, forever. He found a way to keep you in check by permanently trying to hold you accountable for things you did in the past that could never be changed. He made sure he always had the moral upper hand in the relationship, as a way to keep you down. 

Moving forward, I think it’s important for you to understand that you didn’t do anything wrong here. You are allowed to have exes. You are allowed to own things that you exes once touched. You are allowed to model. You are allowed to have photos of yourself. None of those things make you a bad person or a bad partner, and you should never have to apologize for any of them. If your ex had a problem with any of those things (and he clearly did), it was his responsibility to either deal with those issues on his own, or leave the relationship if he knew he couldn’t handle it. He did not have the right to stay and mistreat you. This is on him, not you, and there is absolutely no excuse for what he did. 

Whether or not your ex was abused by his ex-girlfriend is irrelevant here. It might not even be true - many abusers feel intensely victimized when their actual victims resist their control, and it’s very common for abusers to falsely claim that they were “abused” by the partners they terrorized. But even if it is true, it doesn’t matter. It’s not an excuse. There are no excuses for abuse - not mental illness, not addiction, not “anger issues”, nothing. There are no “get-out-of-being-a-good-partner FREE” cards. If someone is in a place where they are at risk of harming their partner, it’s up to them to get therapy and to avoid relationships until they are prepared for a healthy one. 

I think it would be a good idea for you to talk to a professional about what you experienced. If possible, look for a therapist who specializes in helping survivors of domestic violence. If you don’t have access to a therapist, contact a domestic violence agency or hotline, and see if they can find you some resources for free or affordable counselling. A professional can help you unpack what you experienced, work through the trauma, reach a deep understanding of how relationships should function, and prepare to move forward with healthier boundaries and self-esteem. 

You can also find online support groups for survivors of domestic violence - these groups can help you connect with other people who have had similar experiences and understand what you’ve been through. It can be a great place to get support from others and share advice for working through it. You can look for groups through Google, or on social media platforms like Facebook and Reddit. 

It’s also okay if you need to take some time - or a lot of time - to work through this before you feel comfortable dating again. That’s normal. That’s okay. Focus on building a life that is comfortable for you. If you want to return to modelling, that’s an option you can explore. You could pick up some new hobbies, look at going back to school, or reconnect with the friends who’ve been supportive of you through this. Some people find that art or journalling can be useful for working through these feelings - you could give that a try. Spend some time focusing on rebuilding your self-esteem and comfort in your own skin, and don’t feel pressure to start dating again until you feel ready.  Best of luck to you, MM

deku vs kacchan part 2 is my favorite ep of the entire series actually. i’ve watch that ep so many times as well it’s just perfect. i got into them when i watched that episode actually! the voice acting god..... literally shivers. now that i think about it it might even be my favorite anime ep of all time help. i just love how bakugou lets it all out and we get to see that side of him.. the insecure scared child he tries to hide. god i could ramble about it forever idk just love it. OH YOU WATCHED THE MOVE RIGHT AFTER? a scene with bakugou and todoroki is guaranteed a good time.. and they work so well together. haha that’s such a nice coincidence tho their dynamic is great in that movie even if it’s mostly kiribaku sjsksjk. what do you think about kiribaku btw?

shfkjdskdjhf nope right now i’m playing with noelle as my main damage dealer, traveller, lisa and barbara actually. so i think i have a pretty good balance atm.. 2 long range 2 short range-ish. i usually trade out barbara for another character if i have to tho, hehe. that’s only combat though ^ benny is with me when we explore. mood is me having a 5 star and not even using her... i still need to think of ways qiqi could fit into the group yk. is your group still looking the same as before? ooooh if you could rank the elements what would your ranking look like?

The Toxic people in the HH Fandom

Now this is something I wanted to talk about.

I have been in this community for some time now and it has been the most eventful, yet exciting time of my years. Seeing a large group of fans support a passion project / show made by talented and independent people is pretty damn great and I love it. But, there have been some situations that had reeked some havoc here and I think it’s time we talked about some of them. 

Unfortunately, I could not fit everything I wanted to talk about in this post since it’s a bit overdue , I will be discussing 5 types of toxic people and some situations that had happened in the HH community. 

Note: Most of the stories I’m going to talk about were either made public or had been told by my friends or people who have experienced these situations. 

I will not reveal the names of the toxic individuals or their social media names as I don’t want anyone to witch-hunting any of these people. As much as I hate these types of people, it would be inhumane to go and attack them. In this community, we are trying to bring positivity to the fandom and not attract any drama here. Despite this, I will offer the details of what these individuals have done that should have some light dazzled to help and inform of these disgusting  crimes in the community. Also if you go out of your way to harass any of these people I will beat you up and eat your fingers. You know better then to do that.

1. Harassment

Harassment is no uncommon thing. It can happen to everyone, but that doesn’t mean it’s ok. If you are being harassed or spammed by someone, BLOCK THEM. It is never ok for you to stay silent, especially when that harassment is continuous. If you disagree with someone about something, do not go spamming them in their dms or comments, cause’ that just make you look stupid and immature af. 

Allow me to explain. Role-Play / Role-Players are seemingly the most common in the HH Fandom and often answer questions from others to the the character they are rp-ing as or their ocs. But sometimes they are going to get weird fucking questions.

For example, my good friend @carol1826​ is a roleplayer. She roleplays Charlie and asks / answers ask from others (HH related or not). One day, she had a very annoying anon asking her the question “Are you single?” on her posts and ask box. Of course, she was uncomfortable about that question and deleted those until the anon finally said:

“Dumb bitch deleting questions I was only asking a question...”  

“I bet the real Charlie would answer my questions...”

Ok, first of all what the actual fuck and what type of human being would ask someone that question, especially to a Charlie rp blog. More specifically, why would anyone ask a roleplayer that question. It disgusts me that this anon would do this and I hope they get what’s coming to them.

----       ------      ---    --------         ----------  --   ----------------   -----                   ------- Another example of this comes from Tumblr and DeviantArt. You see, a strange user (we will refer to as “the User”) has been asking artists (minors and adults) a specific request in the HH fandom:

“Draw Angel Dust’s butt looking like his fluffy chest” Or sometimes even these asks: “Draw Angel Dust swallowing bullets” ”Draw angel dust smuggling drugs up his butt” “Draw Alastor killing Pentious with a penance stare” “Can I get a shot of Pentious' eye on his hat?” But it seems that the User would often ask artists to draw Angel Dust with his butt out or doing weird shit, but mostly Angel Dust’s butt.

Of course, they would be constantly asking and spamming artists to do this, even if the artist didn’t want to. They even went as far as asking a 13 yr old artist to draw his request. The User has also admitted that it was a fetish (butt fetish to be specific), which is ok but that doesn’t excuse their actions. Fetishes are normal and I have nothing against anyone who has one but it is not ok to try and demand and spam someone to draw it if they don’t want to. The User has been also stealing art, not crediting artists, participating in art trades but never doing their part, begging or persuading for artists to give free art to them (despite some artists who only do commissions), making fake accounts and harassing /  impersonating people, acting racist, etc. I recommend any HH artist to block this user immediately if you get an ask from them.

If the artist doesn't want to draw your request, then you should leave them alone.

It is not ok to spam an artist’s askbox or DMs the same request they rejected over and over again. It’s not going to do any good for you if you do this.

Not only that,

The User also does this to HH roleplayers, sending really weird rp asks to them, mainly those who roleplay Angel Dust. In fact, there was one instance where they sent an ask to a Angel Dust roleplayer in which they basically raped Angel or asked very perverted question about their “Fluffy Butt” (the worst one is when they asked Angel rp-ers to swallow a rat and see if it comes out through the butt), along with other weird asks and it’s fucking disgusting / disturbing as this makes the User look like an extreme creep. It is not uncommon for these types of people to ask others to satisfy their fetishes or sexual desires, and will do whatever it takes to get that fetish / desire expressed from anyone (minors or adults) they can contact, even if it is illegal.

Unfortunately, this User has also ask artists these requests on DA as well, but way worse than you could ever imagine. The worst instance was where they’d ask various artists to draw a frog with worms up its ass. Yeah, I’m calling the Art Police.  Recently, the User had posted on DA discussing this issue. Of course they were acting very perverse, deny that they spam artists (even though it’s the truth) and trying to pull a bullshit pity party / sob story by explaining how they used to be homeless for 2 years, abused and attacked, which (I clearly doubt is true). The fact they tried to defend themselves by talking about how shitty their life used to be fucking disgusts me and is so very pathetic, it makes me gag knowing that these people exist and we are forced to live among them. The User is obviously trying to pull people away from the situation by using the pity card, and it failed. Why the hell should anyone give you the benefit of the doubt that you have done these sick, twisted, and inhumane things to artists by spamming them gross requests and being a big baby when people call you out, as if you should even deserve pity to begin with?  Now of course, what the User is saying does sound very hard to deal with and very sad, but once it crosses the line (due to these actions the User has done and has been very immature and uncompromising about it) people won’t care about how you got there nor feel pity about it. Besides, I doubt anything that the User said is actually true, especially the “homeless for 2 years” part, since if that were the case, you’d be more focused on money and rent rather than asking artists to draw a character clapping their ass-cheeks. Currently on this user’s DA page, they’ve been doing these abominations of status posts for some time, posting pity-post stories in order to get sympathy and just bad. In one of their posts, they go completely ape-shit. Like, this is what happens when desperation and lies is your only option to escape your problems because you’re to perverse to try and fix those issues. I doubt anything this guy says is real anymore since, at this point, anything they say is just a way for them to get pity-points.  Here are the posts btw -----v

Overall, this user is a art thief, spammer, pedophile, manipulating, lying disgusting immature pig that should be eradicated from the internet and all communities for they have been nothing but harassed and cause problems in the fandoms they entered. 

In conclusion, If you are an HH rp / art blog and you are getting uncomfortable asks like these, do not respond and / or block the person asking, you have that right and these people can’t tell you otherwise. If you are harassing people like this, then shame on you for your actions and you seriously need to stop. Its not fucking ok and it will never be ok. NEVER FUCKIN’ EVER. 

2. Art Theft 

Now those of you who have been here for a long time in the Vivziepop Fandom, you will know that many people would sometimes repost Vivz’s artwork. Most of the time we usually don’t do this in the intent of stealing it but to share it or even criticize it. Seemingly Vivz doesn't have a problem with this, unless you are stealing it for you own personal gain and lie that it’s their art. That’s right, these bastards steal her art and claim its theirs. If you been frequently going to Vivz’s Twitter back in 2017, you might remember her calling out a blog that was stealing her art and saying it was theirs.

If you thought that was bad, not only does this happen to Vivz, it happens to other artists in the the HH fandom, the two I’m going to talk about come from @rabbit1225​ and @ztoonsz.

Rabbit1225 makes beautifully drawn artwork of characters, and they are especially well known for their fanart on HH characters in the fandom (Lucifer from HH to be specific). But, unfortunately as Rabbit continues with the fanart, others take it without permission. In fact, there was one instant where someone had ask Rabbit if they could use their picture of Lucifer in the Hazbin Hotel Wiki for Lucifer’s bio in a conversation on DeviantArt. Rabbit said no, but they didn’t care. They not only posted it on the wiki, they spelled Rabbit’s DeviantArt name wrong. Fortunately, Rabbit told the person to remove the pic immediately and told them off for not listening, and so far the pic was removed from the wiki.

This would soon lead to Rabbit putting big watermarks over most their artwork so art thieves couldn’t steal them. I mean, the watermarks are so big they take up the whole pic, which is smart. But still it is a very sad thing to see this happen to artist like Rabbit just because they make some good art of their favorite characters. Sure, asking artists for permission to use their artwork is ok, but taking their art (even if the artist said no) without permission is extremely wrong and disgraceful.  -------    ----              ------------                 --------------------------    -----    ----------

Ztoonz is also an artist who draws HH characters, including their HH oc. Suddenly, an Instagram user was not only stealing their HH art, but stealing various ones from another artist. Ztoonz confronted this thief, and it went pretty bad to say the least. The thief kept saying it was “Their art” and kept calling them insults like “Bitch” or “British Cunt”. What really put the nail in the coffin was when the thief  threaten to repost Ztoonz’s art and claim that Ztoonz was the one stealing it. Now that’s just cold. Of course, Ztoonz made a post regarding this and everyone started to report this thief. Thankfully, the thief deleted all of the art because they knew they fucked up and they deserved it. 

If an you are reposting another person’s art, you must ask for permission first. If don’t and just straight up do it anyway, be sure to credit them at least.

If the artist asks you to remove the reposted art, Do IT, as the art is theirs and not yours and you could get sued or even arrested by the artist for stealing their art.

 Respect an artist’s request to leave their art alone or credit them and move on with your life.

It’s not that difficult. You’ll look bad.

This also goes for Ocs as well, of course.

It is despicable and stealing another person’s character and / or art , it makes you look like you are devoid of creativity to make your own and it’s scummy.

 3. The Attack Of HH Shippings 

This is a tweet Vivzie made on her Twitter. I hope you read or at least acknowledged this tweet, because I’m going to talk about a certain issue regarding this. You see, the reason why Vivz made this tweet was because of the fact that there was an increase of actual people bullying other for certain  ships, canon or not, which I must say is just sad. Like, guys they’re just cartoon characters, calm the fuck down. If you’re seriously going to debate others about a certain ship and whether or not it’s canon for 2 hours, then you are the real fool here.  I don’t know what’s worse: -People shipping real-life people that don’t know each other / have no love or sexual relations with.  OR -People getting into heated arguments about certain fictional character ships from cartoons or shows. What more do we need to tell you? How many fucking times do we all need to say it to you people? Doing this is just going to make you look like a shit person, and an immature one at that. There is no reason for you to do this.There is no reason to attack someone for having some ship of an HH character because you disagree with it. I’ve said it, everyone has said it, even Vivzie herself has said it.  I know this is common in almost all fandoms and communities, but come on, ya’ll should be mature enough to know that being a bitch about stupid shit is just stupid. You guys are old enough to learn how to respect an opinion / interest, yet you people are crying like babies about how some people are shipping Vaggie and Angel Dust cause’ he is gay and not straight. THEY’RE JUST SHIPS! Not only that, even if Angel Dust and Vaggie used to be a couple in the older version of HH and it’s not canon anymore, you can still ship them regardless.

Sure, we all love our demons guys n’ gals but we need to remember they’re just characters and we can do whatever ships we want. Of course, there are going to be the weird looking ships, but we need to respect those ships. You have no authority to tell a person to kill themselves all because they shipped Charlie with Alastor. You are not the God of Ships, nor are you entitled to say you are. 

Speaking of the Vaggie x Angel Dust ship, my friend @scarecrowinc93 told me about someone supporting that ship here on Tumblr. They loved it so much, they made a kickstarter to make the ship canon. Fucking Madlad. But when people tried to tell them that it might not come true, they went ape-shit. They responded to all of this in a post and were extremely rude and bitter about it, though they tried to cover their tracks by deleting it as soon as they realize they fucked up. Now as much as we love fan ships and wish they could be canon, it might not happen and you need to except that fact. 

Just because you’re in a fandom that have excepting ships does not mean you can harass people for disagreeing with your ship or anyone else. I get it people should have free opinions here and there, but you don’t have the right to speak in a rude manner because someone didn’t like your ship. That’s not right and you know that.

4.”Is Hazbin Hotel a Scam?” Bullshit and Clickbait Slander

What happens when someone is desperate for views on YouTube? Slander and attempting to start drama of course! There had been two videos that have caused a bit of a steer. 

The first one was at the day of Christmas Eve, a video called “Is Hazbin Hotel a Scam?” was uploaded by some random person, and I gotta say I was pissed off and disgusted. This might as well be the most infamous video slandering Hazbin Hotel to exist. Words cannot describe this video, and the only way I can describe it is with this image:

I’m pretty sure everyone knows that Hazbin Hotel isn’t a scam. For one, Vivzie and the HH crew do not want to let the fans down, especially at this point in time as Hazbin Hotel is popular with a majority of fans, who are excited for the upcoming show. Do you really think Vivziepop would want to let her own fans down and lie about the upcoming show just to gain money? Yeah uh, how about no motherfucker. They’ve been working so hard to even stop the project at this point. Multiple clips from the pilot have been released to the public, and you can clearly see that the HH crew are working hard to make this show real. Animation that could make Disney cry, colors that pop and vibrate with beauty, and characters with designs that defy our ability to comprehend. For example, Ashely Nichols is one of the HH animators / artists working on the project. She is well known for the many streams she broadcasts. Most of them are usually of her animating various scenes, but with a bit of a twist. You see, to make these streams more entertaining, she brings in one of the several voice actors of Hazbin Hotel to the stream and have the viewers give voice requests said voice actor. In fact, she is currently in a relationship with Micheal Kovach, the voice of Angel Dust. Sometimes even Vivzie makes streams. During those streams some viewers would ask her various questions about Hazbin Hotel, and you know what she does? She answers their questions. Vivzie likes to talk about the Hazbin Hotel’s universe, especially her characters and want to share them with her fans.  So how is that a scam? If Hazbin Hotel was a scam, then why is the HH crew so dedicated to make this project successful? Explain that, cause’ it seems that the person who made this video might have something to say about this. I question whether or not this person is a troll or not, but I’m on the notion they did this for views since in their channel they have never talked about animation or anything related to that and probably doesn’t even know anything about it. Literally, when I first went on this person’s channel, there was barely anything in there that related to animation, art, or anything of that sort but (what I can assume to be) video blogs with barely any views. When I saw this, I could just feel the desperateness for views radiating from their channel. It’s like the equivalent of someone cashing in on a famous person’s death because they’re so desperate for views and attention. When first watching this “exposed video”, I honestly couldn’t even watch it at it’s fully entirety because it was that bad. The points this person made were too idiotic to take seriously and I feel bad for those who believed these disgusting lies. Here are just some of the “points” this person made about the so called “Hazbin Hotel scam”: - Having merch before the show has been released - Having no official release date - The crew only caring about money, not the fans - Having two Patreon pages (One is Vivziepop, the other’s Hazbin Hotel) These are just some of the “points” the person made in the video, and oh believe me it gets worse. While some seem understandable, most of them sound too abysmal to be true. Like seriously, “Having no official release date...”? How petty do you have to be to make up this shit? I get it, the internet can be a sketchy place and you can’t always trust the things you believe, but that statement does not make sense. Let me explain, most animation projects take time to make, like it can 5-7 hours to make a 10 second clip. Now imagine 30 minutes (which is how long the Hazbin Hotel pilot will be), imagine how long it would take to animate. Drawing every single frame neatly and correctly, making sure every scene is right, taking time and making it perfect. The amount of time and effort animators take on animating is astounding. Animation is hard and whether you animate or not, you know that it takes a great deal of toil and energy to do something like this, especially when it comes to 2D animation (which is the main animation style for Hazbin Hotel), where you have to draw each and every frame by hand. Animators need time to do this stuff and sometimes don’t when they’ll be done. Hell, animation companies like Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc. need time for this shit and it could take them months or even years to even start the animation process. Even if these companies have a larger budget then Vivzie, that doesn’t mean she can’t full-fill her animation dream. Like I said before, Vivziepop has already released multiple clips from the pilot, talked about the universe of Hazbin Hotel and it’s characters, and overall make the wait for the pilot something everyone can enjoy. If it were a scam, the animation wouldn’t look completed / smooth, Vivzie would not be talking about the HH universe as much, there wouldn’t be as many animation streams being made, etc.

Apparently, the video was so bad, misleading, and plain retarded, Jakeneutron (who is an animator well known for doing stuff related for Steven Universe), told the person off in the comment section along with other people who actually have a brain. This person, this fucking person, was just spouting bullshit claims like how: 

“They only care about money than the project”

and

“It takes 6 animators to make the merch line and several days to release the merch line”

This person obviously doesn’t know how to tell a good lie because his claims are total bullshit and easily debunkable. The video might have been deleted since it hasn’t been seen near the top when you search “Hazbin Hotel” on Youtube but I don’t want to say it too soon, but if the video is still up then I recommend to not watch it as, like I said, just an attempt to start drama and get views from a pathetic troll / leech.  Seriously, these lies are so bad I feel like my brain cells are slowly dying just reading them.

Next one, a video was uploaded seemingly in December  of another random person’s “reaction” to the Hazbin Hotel trailer and was pretty bad. One of the most idiotic claims this person kept dragging was that this was for children and it is very inappropriate. How? HOW?!

How is a show about demons, murderers, villains in Hell (with mild cursing and sex jokes) for children? This person literally thinks that anything animated is for children. I swear people with that mentality about animation always being “Family Friendly” are just plain idiots. Like look at Family Guy / American Dad / Bojack Horseman / Mr.Pickles / The NutShack, they all have mature and inappropriate themes in them, and they’re animated.

Generally speaking here, yes I do think young children shouldn’t watch HH for obvious reasons. Yes, even though the characters are really funny and enjoyable and the animation beautiful, it’s not mean’t for a very young audience. You could tell Hazbin Hotel isn’t family friendly the moment they talk about drugs, Hell, murder, genocide, etc. but this person acts like it’s going to corrupt our kids the nano-second they watch it. Not only that, they were involving religion into the video. Unfortunately, due my poor memory, I couldn’t remember what they said, but what I do remember was the title saying “I’m never leaving my church ever again...” and the thumbnail being the person seemingly holding a mini bible. Unsurprisingly, they got a lot of hate from that video, but for some reason the person was liking every comment (including the ones that were going against him), which begs the question, What the fuck? The video was deleted, of course.

Now, oddly enough this person is special in a way. They may just seem like your average slanderer towards HH, but they’re a weird one. You see for some reason this person kept making “review videos” on the HH clips or videos apparently supporting HH. Yeah, excuse me but what the fuck? Are they trying to cover their tracks? 

It’s hard to tell if they’re a troll or not because at this point I don’t know. First they slander HH, now they supporting it? What is this person doing and why?

One of my most biggest problems with their HH ‘review’ videos is how the jokes they make are bland, unfunny, and just confusing (to me at least). When they make an attempt at a joke, it’s hard to even call it a joke because it makes you debate whether to laugh or not. 

For example, in their “review” to “A Cautionary Tale”, Angel Dust says he’s “Not too big on politics”, and then the person takes out a MAGA hat, wears it, and says “Well, then you and I are gonna get along great!” I think it’s suppose to be a political joke since in the corner it said *Republican joke*, but at the same time it comes across as not really funny.

My second biggest issue I have about them is how they literally have no fucking clue on what they’re saying. Like they have no idea who the characters are, the universe of the show, etc. and honestly comparing them to an average HH fan, they have the IQ of a penny when talking about HH. In their “A Cautionary Tale” review video, they literally claimed there was no such thing as an “overnight” in Hell and that they’ve been hearing people say that everyone in the main cast of HH died in the 1940s (even though most of the characters have different personalities based on when they died, which is not just the 1940s). Yeah, this ain’t it chief. 

One of the most stupidest things this guy said was that Alastor was Adolf Hitler himself...  Yeah no. Like I’m not sure if this is suppose to be some sort of joke, but judging from this guy’s low knowledge on HH and them being obsessed the 1900s, it seems likely. 

Firstly, Alastor died in 1933, New Orleans (which was told by Vivz in one of Ashely’s streams) during the great depression before WW2, while Hitler died in 1945, Berlin during WW2. Literally, you could just google “Adolf Hitler” and it would show you his date of death on the right side of the screen when you google him, and for Alastor you would go to the Hazbin Hotel Wiki. It’s not that hard.

Secondly, if Alastor was Hitler, then he would have spoken in german or german accent, hate Jews / African Americans / Gays / Hipsanics / etc., have a swastika on this arm, and have the signature mustache or at least something like Hitler. Alastor speaks in a 1930′s voice and speaks english, literally (seemingly) doesn’t care about what race or sexual orientation you are, has no mustache.  

If you went and researched about these characters more on the Hazbin Hotel Wiki, then you wouldn’t look so stupid especially if you want to be invested in the show’s characters or the show in general.

If you haven’t noticed yet, this person is into some war history judging by his interest of World War stuff. I can understand that they may not know, but (like I said) you could literally go to the Hazbin Hotel Wiki to learn more about the story, rather than make dumb assumptions on things you don’t know. You have the internet, use it.

If you think that making video’s slandering a show or person gonna get you good-ass views, then fuck you. Doing this will do nothing but bring angry fans and confused people believing the things you say. If you find satisfaction from that, you are fucking disgusting and a trashy human being. 

5. Roleplay Bullying

Much like HH ship-bullying, roleplayers are being bullied by their way of roleplaying. One that has come to attention is one coming from the Twitter RP-Verse. They roleplay as Alastor and has been acting like a tyrant. You see, they are also an artist who do HH fanart and are well-known for it actually (but I won’t tell who). They would insult roleplayers for their ability or way of roleplaying behind their backs and it’s quite childish for someone to be mad at something so small and idiotic. The roleplayer would use their fans to try and force other rp-ers from the roleplay, as if they control it, which is false and you can’t really control a roleplay, unless someone’s being annoying af and I doubt that this Alastor roleplayer is doing what their doing for that reason. I can understand that territories like this can get pretty hostile, but regards to this specific situation there isn’t really an excuse. I’m not going to go too deep into this topic since (let’s be honest) is another version of HH ship-bullying but except it’s roleplay. Maybe next time I’ll go deeper into this.

So what did we learn today?

Today we learn how truly pathetic us humans can be. How people would go out of their way to conduct such petty crimes to satisfy themselves because they have nothing else better to do in their sad little lives. 

I might make a part 2 of this post, since I couldn’t talk about everything I wanted to say in this post since that would take forever to make.

self-care 101 (covid-19 period)

Since we’ve rolled round to another May bank holiday, I thought it’d be nice to share some tips with you. As a homebody, and someone who will do absolutely ANYTHING to avoid one specific boring activity, I’ve racked up quite a long list over the past few years. Obviously, I’m no professional - but I find these help. There’s no specific chronological order to these - just pick and choose as you like!

Get out of bed!

Or lie in if you need to. Whatever makes you feel good

Start off the day with some yoga or meditation, or basic stretches

Or pray for a bit if you’re religious

Make your bed: tuck your sheets in, rearrange your pillows, etc.

Brush your hair and tie it up nicely

Pick out a cute outfit - could even be your favourite PJs - and lay it out

Go take a soothing shower, or a bubble bath

Use a bath bomb, get some nice candles if you feel like it

Put on some nice music to relax to

Try out a new hairstyle or style your hair the way you would if you had somewhere to be!

Slap on some makeup, why not? :) 

Floss your teeth, or maybe use that teeth whitening formula you never picked up again after using it for the first time

Pick out a recipe for a hair mask or face mask and put it on

Before doing any of these, make sure they suit your hair & skin type

E.g. if you have frizzy and dry hair, use a moisturising and rejuvenating mask vs if you have sleek, straight hair - use a volume-enhancing mask. Same goes for your skin - evaluate whether you have dry skin, oily skin or combination 

Stick to the recommended leave in time! It can be extremely difficult to get out later otherwise

Or make your own mask! There’s tons of recipes on YouTube and Google :)

Make yourself a nice breakfast

Breakfast smoothies are amazing! A really simple recipe I use contains a few spoonfuls of oats, handful of fruits (e.g. blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, grapes), honey / sugar by taste and yogurt.

Or a nice bowl of your favourite cereal

Avocado toast - there are so many different varieties of this online, and I bet you’ll find that you like.

A fruit salad!

Eggs done the way you like

A full English if you’re feeling ambitious

Workout for an hour or so

This doesn’t have to be really equipment intense or challenging if you don’t want it to be

Some YouTubers I recommend: Chloe Ting, Emi Wong, Fitness Blender, MadFit, Blogilates, Yoga with Adrienne, etc. 

Don’t over exert yourself. Take longer than the recommended break time between exercises if you need to

Grab a new book, or a book you just enjoy reading

You can browse through Spotify for any playlists to listen to while reading - or use a playlist of songs you like

Listen to some music you like

Or discover some new music using Spotify’s ‘Discover’ feature

Preferably something that lifts your mood!

Pick out a recipe you’ve been meaning to try and just make it!

Dance around the house to some music

This can also be a sort-of-workout!

You can try learning a routine

TikTok dances are so stupidly fun

Maybe get a friend on vid-call and learn a dance with them

Make some TikToks

Or duet some on the app!

Get out a new bottle of wine - it’ll make you feel boujie ;)

Or your drink of choice - I’m not big into alc so I usually love a cool mint lemonade or iced coffee

Sit outside if the weather is nice

Or even if it’s rainy! I particularly love rainy days

Go for a walk around your neighbourhood

Do some grocery shopping! It can be surprisingly fun when you’re in no rush - plus, that’s a task off your future to-do list

Go meet a friend - stand at least 2m away and have a chat

Or text/ call your family / friends

Houseparty is great to use because it’s got games that you can play together if you’re not big on talking

Watch that TV series / movie you’ve been trying to get round to

Play with your pet, if you have one!

Do a cute lil photoshoot

Put on a nice outfit and take some nice pictures using the timer

Pictures with your pet

Or take pictures of your surroundings when outside

Or of the new dish you’ve impulsively made

Grab a pretty notebook

Start a bullet journal

Hello/ Greetings to everyone, So today I here to make my true points on Cowin SE7 Review.

Cowin SE7 wireless headphones are designed to sound better, be more comfortable, and easier to take with you. Plus with apt-X. You can enjoy low latency, good fault tolerance, and high quality sound. Put them on and suddenly everything changes. Their music is deep, powerful and balanced, and so quiet that every note sounds clearer. Even air travel becomes a pleasure as the engine noise decreases quietly. No matter how loud the world is, it’s just you and your music – or just peace and quiet.

I love active noise canceling headphones. Unfortunately, it is sometimes difficult to find a review in US for the creations of the Chinese brothers, I will slightly correct this situation. In short: with noise canceling turned off, the sound is good, but not very good with noise canceling turned on. Sounds are suppressed quite well, according to the recollections of using top-end SONY 1000XM2, here noise cancellation approaches them, excellent for the money.More details below

In general, I bought them here for a link for around 100$, but they are no longer there, I think there is no difference where exactly to buy, so I give a link to the second option where I thought to take it.

All equipment in the photo. I don’t use all of this, so there isn’t much to tell. The cables feel good quality. In the case, there is only a mesh on the edge (in the photo this is the bottom) in theory, rarely used cables or adapters can be crammed there. getting something out of there is inconvenient. I really liked the sound quality with noise cancellation turned off, there is bass and the detail is good (for my personal NOT audiophile taste) The codec used on my phone is AptX. With the inclusion of noise reduction, the lows of the songs are noticeably cut. This was not the case with the Sony 1000XM2.

Thus, we have 2 modes: noise reduction mode and quality mode, this suits me, I often listen to podcasts and audiobooks, for example, near the highway, the intelligibility of the voice of an audiobook increases noticeably when the noise reduction is turned on.

Charging And Pairing

In the first step, we connect the headphones to the power with the supplied USB cable . In my case, the LED now lights up permanently blue because the battery was already fully charged . It usually lights up red while charging . The battery is fully charged after about 3-4 hours if it was previously empty. The headphones have a built-in 800 mAh battery that lasts up to 30 hours. The runtime applies to Bluetooth mode with ANC activated.

If I now press and hold the middle button on the headphones for a long time, the headphones are switched on and then “pairing” sounds. Now the LED flashes blue. Now I open the Bluetooth settings of my smartphone and select the SE7, done.

When I switch the headphones on and off, they automatically connect to the device last connected. If I now want to put it into pairing mode again and press and hold the middle button for a long time, it does not work because it is already connected. If I want to delete the current connection and pair it again, I have to press and hold the forward and back buttons until a response is heard. If I press and hold the middle button for a long time, the LED starts to flash alternately red and blue and the headphones can be paired again.

Controls & Connections

All connections and controls are located on the right auricle . At the very top we see the ANC switch and the ANC LED . If this LED lights up green, the ANC is active . Directly below that we see the status LED for pairing and the battery status. Next we see three buttons. The volume can be increased or decreased with the two long buttons. If we keep the buttons pressed for approx. 2 seconds, a song is skipped forward or backward.

The middle button is the so-called multifunction button . If we press it briefly, the music is paused or continued. If, on the other hand, we press it for a long time, the headphones are switched on and off or put into pairing mode. This button can also be used to accept or reject calls.

Last but not least, we see the 3.5 mm jack connector and the micro USB charging port .

Comfort & Workmanship

The cushions of the Cowin SE7 are very soft and adapt very strongly to the head. They are like a kind of soft pillow . This is on purpose and helps block outside sound. I find the upholstery very pleasant and comfortable. The headband is height adjustable and, as we can see here, the headband is reinforced with metal. The height adjustment is nice and clean.

The auricles are attached to joints which allow horizontal and vertical adjustment to the shape of the head. The auricles can also be rotated by 90 °. The headphones can also be folded up and thus fit perfectly into the enclosed carrying case.

The hinges at which it is folded have a metal pin inside. I couldn’t film or photograph that properly. But I shined in at an angle to determine this.

The weight of the headphones is approx. 273 grams . The inner surface of the auricles is almost 7 cm high and about 3.5 cm wide . The inner surface is therefore above average. The headphones are otherwise made of plastic and the ear cups and the padded headband are covered with synthetic leather. The design looks chic, simple and modern.

For a price of 100 dollars, the workmanship makes a good impression on me.

Microphone

So In the Cowin SE7 Review I checked the microphone in the windy or noisy environment and I found that my voice is clear all the time without any disturbance.

No matter what if its raining or its windy or it any noise your voice is going to be clear for anyone listening to you other side.

The feature of microphone is so great that even if you are in heavy traffic the microphone will help you to communicate with your mates on call without any disturbances.

Microphone in Cowin SE7 Review is one of the best positive point to buy it.

Sound: Cowin SE7 Review

The headphones are apt-X capable. It has a very powerful bass . Anyone who listens to a lot of hip-hop, rap, techno or metal will probably be happy about the powerful bass. In my opinion, this is also the target group for headphones. Due to the strong bass, the mids and highs are somewhat lost. That’s why I once listened to Suzanne Vegas’ song “Gypsy” and adjusted the sound to a neutral level with an equalizer. You can see the settings here in the picture. You can see that the highs and mids have been adjusted more.

The headphones have no background noise , so they are also suitable for listening to audio books. What I noticed with my Moto G4 smartphone, however, is a very low, high-pitched beeping sound in the right auricle. I didn’t notice that at first. But when I was in an absolutely silent room I noticed it quietly. This sound is inaudible with music and neither could a old man (60 years old) hear it. I do.

With an old Samsung S5, however, the noise was not present. So it seems to be probably due to my Motorola. When I connect the headphones with a jack cable, the noise is gone. So it’s because of the bluetooth connection. For the price I like the sound very well (with equalizer), but you should expect to have to switch on an equalizer.

ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION IN COWIN SE7 Review

If the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is activated, there is only a very minimal, barely audible noise! I couldn’t hear it in an audio book. This is a clear difference to all the inexpensive models that often generate a lot of noise through the ANC. When the Active Noise cancellation is activated, the sound of the headphones changes or the powerful deep bass is reduced. This makes the sound more neutral again, but has less bass.

With aircraft cabin noise, the headphones take out the bass and the noise becomes lighter. It feels 50% quieter. With propeller aircraft, the depths are also reduced very much. The noise itself remains at around 70%, but sounds a lot brighter. The ANC is therefore at the entry level, which we also find in many inexpensive models. However, there is no strong noise generated by the Active Noise Cancellation , which all inexpensive models often have. The Active Noise Cancellation is to be regarded as a soft Active Noise Cancellation and a nice bonus, but you shouldn’t expect miracles here. If you buy headphones mainly because of the Active Noise Cancellation, you should take a look at the Bose QC 35 .

CONCLUSION

So lastly, It makes sense to buy these headphones if you need active noise cancellation, otherwise you can find something cheaper with the same sound quality. On the other hand, for my taste, they sound decent and if you don’t like the noise reduction, you can leave it off. Noise suppression works well in noisy industries (press, weaving machines, etc., running engines, pumps) In the subway (the best effect when a train arrives when you wait at a station) Noise from highways, passing trains (if they pass nearby) they will do for use on an airplane, train, but you need to understand that in these headphones you will have to pay for the noise canceling on with the sound quality. I am satisfied with the purchase, they cost their money. There are minor drawbacks such as creaking and too soft (or thin) ear pads, inability to work and charge.

Be careful, this manufacturer has many similar names E7 and E7PRO this is the last generation of headphones, I talked about Cowin SE7.

AX2001 - University - One Animation a Week project - 3D Sections

So far on this blog is have discussed all the 2D sections of my one animation a week project (AX2001 - University - One second a week animation - My approach & 2D sections (Summer Project)) and the stop-motion sections (AX2001 - University - One Animation a Week project - Stop-motion sections (Summer Project)). In this third and final post, I will be discussing the 3D sections of my project.

Bouncy Balls (Ball Bounce animation)

To begin I decided to make my first 3D animation something quite simple. Out of the three types of animation, I would say I felt 3D animation was the one I feel I still have a lot to learn about, so with each piece, I tried to up the difficulty for myself on the creation process (In a similar fashion to the character mash-up aspect of the project). So, for my first project, I decided to create a bouncing ball with squash and stretch added to it, this is a common animation practice piece for 2D animation, of which I also did a few times during the beginning of the first year, so I wanted to try and translate this to 3D animation.

To begin I animated one ball going up then down, then pausing the ball for a few frames once it hits the plank and once again at the peak of its bounce. From here I created key frames for the ball squashing down and stretching up. I wanted the bounce to be gentle and not harsh, so nothing was too drastic when it came to stretching the ball during its bounce.

Even though I had accomplished what I set out to do, I felt unsatisfied with what I made, so I added more balls and animated balls dropping in pairs at slightly different times. From this point quite a lot of time had passed, as I was struggling to get the rendering software “Arnold” working on PC, which I had previously used for my first-year projects such as my E4 sting. But eventually I got Arnold working thanks to the help of my tutor and the making could begin.

I began by change the colour of each ball to distinguish each one from the other. After looping the animation a few times, I felt that the background seemed quite empty, so I created two moving borders in the shape of little hills and had them scroll across the top and bottom of the frame, I then placed a solid background behind the two borders.

This helped fill in the background, but I still felt that there could have been something else I could have done with this animation. I then came across the idea, to include small floating and rotating cubes to help fill the screen. The inspiration for this idea came from Nintendo Wii menu’s how in some games such as “Wii Fit” and Wii Party” some of the backgrounds, would have floating shapes to help fill the void in some of their backgrounds.

Once these cubes were fully animated, I felt satisfied with what I had made, taking what was originally a practice exercise for 2D animation and expanding it into something more with 3D animation.

Tumbling Down (Domino Animation)

With Tumbling down, I wanted to create a simple concept like domino’s falling over, but try to animate everything in time, giving each domino a sort of weight to them. At this point in the project, I felt that I had been creating too many busy pieces that I thought another simpler to understand piece would be refreshing.

When creating this piece, I took a very similar approach to this as I had done with the Bouncy Balls piece. I created the base of the table and then the first domino, I then replicated the domino five times, lining each one in front of each other. Next using the Sphere tool, I created each of the dots for the dominos. Once this was done, I coloured in the domino’s and their dots as well as the table as well as giving the table legs.

Oddly enough the more difficult part for this animation was trying to stop the dots clipping out behind the dominos. This became very apparent after applying colour to the dominoes as the clipping became more obvious with each domino. To fix this I had to carefully add key frames as to when each domino fell, making a few extra key frames to make sure that each dot stayed in line and didn’t fall out of the model.

Once the dominoes were fixed I began adding background elements, i tried to recreate the walls of a room in a house, so I added a picture frame with two smiling faces and a white separator on the wall to fill in the background.

Overall, this animation was also quite good to work on, as it reminded me on how to carefully set key frames and that sometimes having too many or to little number of key frames can cause timing issues with different elements, props, characters, etc of a piece.

Hello (Waving character Animation)

This animated piece features a man in his house waving to the viewer. This piece was the second to last animated piece I created and with my previous 3D animated pieces (Including the Rollercoaster piece, but that comes after this one in the project). I wanted to try rigging a character. From my previous work with the E4 sting, the hardest thing to create for me was the Rig for my character, so going into this piece, I knew I would be in for a challenge.

I began by creating my character, shaping his body using the vertex tool (F9) and adjusting them with the move tool. I then deleted the top and bottom of the characters body to create the legs using the bride tool and extending the legs from between the gaps of the bridge. Next was the arms, they were created using the cut and extend tools with the vertex tool used later to define the elbows and hands/ nubs. I then created a thin disk, placed it at the top of the body, and with the cylinder tool, created the neck. using the sphere tool, I created and manipulated the spheres to create the head, eyes and nose of the character, I the used the cylinder tool to create the characters smile. I combined all these parts together by combining mesh of each of them to one another.

Next was creating the rig, I had a few lessons recorded including one to one video calls with my tutor showing me how to do this, so this time around, I was a little more confident with what I was doing. Creating the rig wasn’t an issue, I remembered to combine the body to make it whole so unlike last time, my model wasn’t collapsing in on itself and legs were functioning properly. The issues came when creating switches for the joints using the circle tool. Even though I had frozen the dimensions of the shape and switches using the Freeze transformation option in the modify box, as well as parenting the joints to their switches and from one switch to another. The model was not responding, properly as the rig would move, but the model would not follow. After investigating for a while, I found out I needed to bind the skin to the joints. This worked and I was able to animate the characters movement.

The next issue I experienced was with the characters hat. At the start I wanted to try adding clothing to my character, something I struggled with in the first year, so I made my character a cap. The problem was, whilst animating, the hat kept breaking and clipping through the body, I thought the best solution would be to unbind the hat from the head and animate it separately. The issue was the hat would not detach from the head, so I tried everything I could including doing everything I had done prior, but the hat wouldn't come off, not only this but a bobble I placed on top of the hat would not delete. To fix this I created a new, larger hat to hide the bobble and animated on top of the old hat.

Lastly I had a strange issue with the skin weights tool, as it appeared to be malfunctioning in a way I was unsure how to fix. When activating the tool, it would recognise the surfaces/ objects I was trying to get it to interact with (mainly the head). However whenever I selected the part of the body I wanted to use the skin weights on it would come up with a large red X where I wanted to use the tool. I tried holding CTRL, centre mouse, left click, right click, alt click and more to get rid of this X, but unfortunately I had no luck. So during the animation, you may notice the bottom half the head stretching whilst my character is waving.

One final thing I should mention is during the making of this piece, I had previously watched a short video of Disney reusing pieces of animation for their films (Link to video below). Due to time running out for me for this piece, I decided to take this idea and reuse some of the props I made for my E4 project. These include the cabinet, plant and door seen behind the man in the background.

Overall, I felt happy with this piece as I felt for the most part I had learned from most of my previous issues/ errors. Sure not all problems were resolved in time and I couldn't fix the skin weights issue, but the main goal was to show my character waving at the viewer and I felt that I was able to pull this off OK.

Theme Park (Rollercoaster Animation)

This animated piece features a rollercoaster with two people riding one of the karts. For this animation I wanted to try and create the effect of something coming from the background into the foreground towards the viewer. I felt this would have to be both gradual, but noticeable with it’s movement (nothing to quick or sharp on approach). After thinking of a few ideas, I decided to make this piece based on a rollercoaster.

To begin I made the rails for the roller coaster from two long cylinders, I then used the cut and vertex tool to manipulate and stretch the shape of the rails going up and down as it comes closer and closer to the camera. I then created polls underneath the rails to hold up the track and then duplicated both the rails and the polls to create the base of the track. Next I created a very thin sheet using the cube tool and used the same process for the rails to create the ground for the ride. The kart itself was made out of a cube with a lot of manipulating done to it to create what you see in the final piece.

The people were interesting to create, I didn’t want to create anything to complex but wanted to show that they had their arms in the air, as the kart goes up and down the ramps. I began be creating the body of one of the characters and made arms for the character using the cut and extend tools with the vertex and move tools to create their bent elbows and upwards arm movement. The cylinder tool was used to create the characters neck and ending off the design with the sphere tool which was used to create the eyes, nose and the inside of the mouth. The cylinder tool was then used to create the character’s lips/ open mouth, which was all concluded by adding colour to the model. The model was then duplicated and separate hair pieces were made to make the characters different from one another (as well as changing the colour of their shirts).

when it came to animating I first animated the kart going along the track, creating a key frame for roughly each bend in the track as the kart goes up and down each ramp. The same keyframes where used for the characters moving along with the kart and this animating process happened a third time, with the characters facial features and hair.

Once this was finished I was happy with what I had made, but like the Bouncy Balls piece, I thought the background appear quite empty. I thought of what else is usually found at theme parks and I eventually landed on the idea of making a Ferris wheel. To make the Ferris wheel the base was made from the cube tool, whilst the pools and centre pool where created with the cylinder too. for the round parts of the wheel for the karts I used the cylinder tool but manipulated it with the cut and vertex tools and this was hard. I tried to create a quarter of the ring and duplicate it around the Ferris wheel, the results I felt were mixed, it looked like a Ferris wheel, but you can tell it’s not smooth, especially since the bottom had to be deleted due to clipping through the ground. To make best of this situation (especially for the animating stage). I decided to keep the wheel still, but half the karts rotate around the track to give off the effect that the ride was functioning properly. Lastly the karts were made from two manipulated cubes from the vertex and move tools and the polls where created with the cylinder tools then they were all coloured in.

I decided to animate the karts moving in small increments as to not make them move too quickly in the one second, I had or risk them clipping through the circular frame of the Ferris wheel. If I had a little more time, I probably would have tried to fix up the frame of the Ferris wheel, but unfortunately at this point I was running out of time (After all it was a last minute inclusion). Once the wheel was done, I created a small path which ran through the background on top of a grass green floor and added a blue sky.

Overall, I was happy with this piece, sure the Ferris wheel may of needed some touching up (Such as using the ring tool which I had not used prior but would make more sense for next). But at the end of it all the focus was the rollercoaster and the effect of the kart and people coming from the background into the foreground, and I felt that I achieved that effect.

Splash (Diving Board Animation)

This animation features a person, jumping off a diving board and into a swimming pool. For this animation, I wanted to try and create a character jumping, something I had not attempted prior. My first idea was going to be someone jumping up and down on a trampoline, but after pondering on this idea for a while, I felt that there was more material I could work with if it was someone jumping off a springy diving board.

To begin, I created the swimming pool, which would be the base of my set. I created a large box with the cube tool and with the cut and vertex tool made a hole in the centre of the box, once this was done, I placed another cube in the hole, which would become the water of the pool. I then moved onto creating the diving board which was made from a thin cube which was stretched out, this was then followed by two more larger cubes placed underneath it acting as steps up to the board. two handles where then placed with the ring tool, prior to this piece I had never used the ring tool before, and I see where it could have come in handy with some of my previous work.

Next was creating my character, similarly to the Hello piece, I created my character and created a rig for the character. I also wanted to experiment with creating cloths again, so I created some swimming trunks for my character using a long cuboid, which was then thinned out and moulded using the cut, vertex and move tools, which were then skin bind to the body. The neck and mouth were created with the cylinder tool and the head, eye and nose were created with the sphere tool.

I then moved onto creating the rig where I used the same approach as I did with the Hello animation. I created the rig, tested to see if the legs would bend, created the handles for the body arms, legs, etc. In my experience so far, the more common issue I faced was operating the upper half of the model’s body, but oddly enough it was more the lower body that was giving me issues this time around. For some unknown reason the IK Handles for the characters legs were malfunctioning, they would bend like they are supposed to, but if I moved my character forward, the IK handles would remain firmly planted in place (or shoot downwards), causing the legs to drift backwards and clip through the body when landing in the pool. This bothered me that I spent roughly 75% of my time for this piece trying to fix the handles, but unfortunately, I was having no luck.

In the end, I had to go with plan B, which was to disconnect the IK handles from the model and animate the legs manually with the vertex tool in the side view. Animating as a whole wasn’t actually too bad, the upper half of the rig was still functioning properly, so I had no issues animating the body arms and head. And unlike the Hello animation the skin weight tool was working this time, so I was able to prevent the head stretching during the jump. Whilst animating my characters movement I tried to have the character rotate backwards as he jumps off the board, hits the peak of his jump and landing in the water. To best achieve this, I had the character jump in a cannon ball position so it would be easier to rotate the body slightly backwards, but also make it easier to manipulate the arm movements and animate the legs.

Lastly, I created a few background props, such as an inflatable unicorn with ring and cylinder tool. I also created a floor to go around the pool as well as a table with drinks on it, walls were also added around the sides of the set. I also tried something new by incorporating clouds in the background to give a sense of background movement. I also tried angling the sky diagonally, as I felt the sky in the Theme Park piece made the world feel like it was boxed in and less open, I feel this new approach worked much better.

Overall, I was happy with this one, yes I had issues with the character rig again, but I was glad I was able to come up with an alternative to this issue, to create a piece which I think works well. The main takeaway from this finale piece will be working on rig structures and handle making, but in comparison to what I have done before, I felt that I have improved.

SIMS 4: BASSINET STUCK OUT OF BOUNDS & WAYS TO FIX IT

hello!!!! i’m making this post because i experienced this glitch last night and had a LOT of trouble finding solutions that achieved what i wanted, so i wanted to document which things worked for me and the pros/cons of each solution, so that maybe someone down the line won’t have to pull their hair out as much as i did about it!!!

here’s the glitch: you have an infant, you move your household to a new empty lot, the infant and her bassinet spawns in one of the far corners of the lot OUT OF BOUNDS. like this!

by ‘out of bounds’ i mean the bassinet and infant (both of which are considered an “object”) have spawned off the lot grid, as pictured above. from what i was googling, most people experience this in such a way where during live play, the bassinet is still completely accessible and your sims can interact with it like normal—but when you switch to build mode, you can’t select it to move it around the lot. effectively, the baby is stuck in the middle of nowhere!

first, i wanted to address the PREVENTATIVES i found. if you HAVEN’T had this problem and want to avoid it in the future, this should keep it from happening!

place the required number of bassinets for your household’s infants on the lot IN ADVANCE. i had triplets, for example, so i needed three bassinets for the babies to default to before moving the household into the lot. if you don’t do this, the infants will spawn their OWN bassinets randomly on the lot, and this was what led to one baby spawning out of bounds. side note: this MAY not be necessary if there is at least ONE FUNCTIONAL ROOM on the lot. i moved to an empty lot, so there was no ‘obvious’ place to put the infants, but i noticed during my troubleshooting that when i moved to a lot with a house already built on it, the two unglitched babies spawned inside the house, even though there were no preplaced bassinets and, theoretically, they could’ve spawned anywhere. i THINK, but cannot CONFIRM, the game might look for functional shelter first when deciding where to auto-spawn a bassinet, and if it finds shelter, it will spawn the bassinet inside of it. if it doesn’t, it will pick a random corner of the lot (when moving households, at least), and that’s when the glitch can occur.

DON’T MOVE HOUSEHOLDS WITH INFANTS. DOH! as explained above, i think you can prevent this glitch by following the precautions i wrote there, but the other, very simple way to avoid the issue is wait until the infants are toddlers who you can command to move back into bounds, and who the parents can move around the lot! this ties into something i explain a bit later about ‘toddlers’ counting as sims, but infants counting as ‘objects’.

second, some things i tried after the glitch was in effect that DIDN’T work, in case these are things you’ve ruled out too and are looking for answers that AREN’T the following:

‘resetSim FirstName LastName’ cheat did not work! the reason for this is actually because infants are considered ‘objects’ by the game, not sims, so they can’t be affected by cheats.

moving the household back out and into another lot in the same world (in this case glimmerbrook) did not work! the rest of the family would appear on the lot correctly, but the infant was still stuck out of bounds on the OLD lot.

‘reset object (debug)’, accessible by entering ‘testingcheats true’ into the console and shift-left-clicking almost anything, did not work! sometimes if a sim, object, etc gets stuck or glitched, you can use this to forcibly reset them. unfortunately, this didn’t have any effect on the glitched bassinet.

deleting the bassinet did not work! again, the bassinet is completely unselectable in build mode, which means you can’t ‘pick it up’ and delete it. the hammer also won’t register it as something to destroy, treating it like just hitting the grass.

now we can move onto things that DID work. each one has its own pros and cons, so i’ll start with the one that was CLOSEST to the outcome i wanted, and go through the others that WORKED but not how i wanted too, because some of these may be more or less what YOU want from your solution! i’ll dump it all under the readmore now, i think i’ve left enough out for keyword searches to catch. :)

RECOVER YOUR SAVE. this was both the most satisfying fix i found and also the LAST one i found, because i’m dumb and forgot save recovery exists. >:/ if you’re unfamiliar with this feature, go to the main menu, click ‘load game’ and find the save file with your glitched baby in it! there will be an option in the bottom right to ‘recover saves’, where a list of past saves with timestamps can be found. restoring one of these past saves will create a new save file called ‘SaveName [Recovered]’—it WILL NOT overwrite the existing save file, so you can test it out safely without making things even worse. while this allowed me to revert to a past point in my game before the glitch ever occurred and then take the preventative precautions i mentioned earlier, this DOES hinge on you having a recent save handy. i happened to save my game before moving the household (and putting all the stuff i wanted to keep in their household inventory, oops. had to do that twice), so i didn’t lose any progress except the time spent trying to undo the glitch. but if you encounter this issue after, say, 4+ hours of unsaved progress, this may not be a satisfactory solution! that’s why i’m listing the other fixes i found; they were less good for me, but may be better for your specific situation!

MOVE THE HOUSEHOLD TO ANOTHER WORLD. you MUST move them into a town/world that ISN’T the one the baby is glitched in. this will force all infants to appear on the new lot in the new world; doing this in conjunction with the preventative measures above should stop the glitch from repeating! this solution doesn’t require a recent save, which is definitely a bonus if you’re like me and usually FORGET to save for long periods. the downside is you probably wanted that family to live in the OLD world, not the new one, so depending on how important that is to you, this may not be an ideal solution. (additionally, a ‘duplicate’ of the glitched infant and bassinet appeared to remain in the old world, so future use of that lot may still result in a random baby in the corner of your property. it’s little weird.)

AGE UP THE INFANT INTO A TODDLER. some reports i found while researching for solutions suggested this wasn’t possible, but i was able to do it in my case, so if you can in yours, it’s definitely a fix with its own merits! doing this would allow you to remain in the world and lot you wanted, which is a pretty noteworthy plus. the downside is the bassinet will remain stuck out of bounds. you won’t be able to delete it or move it, so even though you’ve got your lot and world you wanted, the bassinet will still be there. watching. waiting. but at least you saved your baby!

none of these are perfect solutions, as they depend either on preventative measures in advance (diligent saving of the game) or compromises after the fact (haunted bassinet). but all three of these DID return access to my baby, and in two cases even allowed me to keep the infant stage of life (which i like to play through only because MY SIMS HAD FUCKING TRIPLETS AND I NEED TIME TO PROCESS HOW WOEFULLY UNPREPARED I AM AAAAHHHHH!!!!!).

i hope this helps people in future! :) this is the beginning and end of my findings, so unfortunately i won’t have any advice outside of what’s already here, but i included things i couldn’t easily find on google when i was dealing with the issue myself, so hopefully something in here can help you!

My current photo library management solution

In this post I’m going to detail out how I manage my photo library. I have changed my workflow countless times over the years and I have the deep battle scars to prove it. I’ve switched services, storage providers, apps, folder structures, metadata schemes, you-name-it.

In 2018 I decided to set out on a sort of mission; I wanted to create a photo library that would be relatively future proof. Should I decide to use a different app or storage platform, I’d want to be able to do so easily rather than painfully.

Note: This solution is likely not for everyone. The number of hours I’ve spent to come to this solution cannot be overstated. But, I’m very happy with how it is working. Maybe if you’re reading this it can work for you too. Or, perhaps you can pull just one idea from it that will help you.

Here is what I had to accomplish:

Create a folder structure that I can control and maintain regardless of the photo application I choose to use to view my library or edit my photos

Store as much metadata about the photos within the files themselves – rather than an external database – so that the metadata would travel with the image across all platforms

Be highly searchable, glanceable, sharable

Store my personal photos, my wife’s personal photos, my photography “work” and projects, and my digital film scans.

Bonus: Be accessible from any of my devices

Tools

Bulldozer – A simple PHP script that copies all of my images into their proper folders based on date created

SetEXIFData – an app to set the date taken, GPS coordinates, keywords, and other EXIF information for my digital film scans

Adobe Photoshop – For editing photos

Adobe Bridge (Camera Raw) – For Super Resolution (on 35mm film scans)

OneDrive – For cloud storage of my library

Photos for Mac – To search, view my library locally, as well as create smart albums.

Epson V600 – To scan my film negatives, slides from family members, or old photo prints.

Silverfast – The scanning software that I use. It is a little clunky but by far the best software I’ve used to scan.

A few external hard drives

Here is what my current storage situation looks like.

My photo library weighs in at over 450GB and growing rapidly. I have no less than 4 complete copies of that library. I have the “working library”, “backup library”, “off-site backup library”, and “cloud backup library”.

Why 4 copies? Restoring from a cloud-based backup when you live in a rural area is… less than fun. I remember when Everpix was shutting down and they sent a notice to all users to download their entire libraries in a very short period of time. I’ll never make the mistake again of relying on a cloud-based storage solution for my photos.

Of course, hard drives go bad. So I have a local backup in my home office at all times should anything go wrong with the working library. The off-site backup goes with me in my bag. Sometimes I’ll leave it at work in case my house burns down. I know, this isn’t easy to think about but alas, I do. Lastly, the cloud-based backup is a failsafe. Cloud-based storage is incredibly inexpensive. In fact, my storage comes with my Microsoft 365 subscription. It also affords me the ability to search my library from any of my devices from anywhere in the world. Something I don’t do very often anymore but it is nice to have when I need it.

Workflow

My workflow for storing photos varies only slightly based on the source of my images. I have a few iPhones, my wife’s iPhone, some DSLRs, a drone, a wildlife camera, and multiple film cameras. I could be importing photos from any one of these devices (or all of them) at the same time. So I have a slightly different way of handling each of them.

Let’s start out with a simple example; imagine that all of the images I’m importing came from a digital camera like the iPhone, DSLR, or drone.

First, I throw all of the images from the devices into a single folder at ~/Pictures/import/digital

Next, I’ll take a few moments to go through those photos and delete anything I’d rather not import into my library. I’m not very strict at this stage. I am of the opinion that photos become more important with age – and again since storage is so inexpensive – so I keep the vast majority of the photos we create.

One quick note here: Since Eliza and I have the same iPhone models, I will quickly rename the photos that we took to be prepended with takenby_colin_FILENAME and takenby_eliza_FILENAME. This makes it dead easy to know who took the photo later even though the device models will be the same.

Once I’m finished culling and renaming the photos in the folder I move them into a waiting room of sorts at ~/Pictures/import/ready_to_be_copied. Let’s pretend I have 500 files in that directory now.

Next, I have a simple PHP script that I’ve called Dozer that will look at the file’s creation date and automatically sort them into their appropriate folders. So, an image taken on March 17, 2021 will be copied into a folder 2021/03/17 that exists on my main working library drive.

Dozer gives a little report in the terminal about how many files were moved, how many folders were created, and even warns me if any of the files were duplicates (it happens sometimes). This way I can be sure that all of the photos that I wanted to be copied were copied.

Once I’m satisfied that the process was done successfully, I’ll run Dozer a second time to throw the same files onto OneDrive in the same folder structure. I’d like to improve this part of my workflow wherein some sort of comparison is run against my entire OneDrive library.

Next, I open the Photos for Mac app and import the new files. When I do so, I make certain to check the “Keep Folder Organization” checkbox on the Import screen. By doing this Photos for Mac will keep the files where they are and will not move them into the main library file. Photos for Mac will, however, make a few different sized thumbnails to keep the app snappy. So your Photos for Mac library file will increase in size.

Using Photos for Mac gives me a quick glance at my entire library quickly, it also allows me to do some other organization like Albums, etc. on top of my date structure. I have Smart Albums for the cameras I own, for different areas of interest (such as Architecture), for people, etc. Though I still feel that Photos for Mac is not a good longterm storage solution I do believe it is an excellent viewing app. In addition, it is getting better and better at facial and object detection which is a nice bonus for searching my library. I can search for “cat” or “sunset” or for a specific person. Also, Photos for Mac respects the EXIF data that is on the file allowing me to sort photos based on the device that created them, any keywords I may have added, etc.

Film scans

I scan my film negatives using an Epson V600 and the Silverfast app. I generally scan at fairly high resolution and rather flatly contrasted – preferring to do my crops, edits, digital dodging and burning in Photoshop. Once I have a satisfactory file I’ll use SetEXIFdata, a rather crude Mac app, to reset the EXIF data of the file to the film camera’s details, GPS coordinates, etc. This is the controversial bit, many people would take offense to this. But I prefer to have this metadata go with the file, rather than using Photos for Mac to tag the photo or something. Because then all of the data is stored in the Photos for Mac database. And believe me, I’ve seen it, and it isn’t pretty.

My film photos come in two general categories; personal and projects. My personal film photos are usually from a vacation or day trip or something. And so I store these in very much the same way as I do photos that came from my iPhone. My projects files, though, are stored in a Photo Projects folder by some sort of name. For instance, I’ve got a multi-year photo project going where I take portraits of my friends in or near their backyard garden. Those go into a Garden Friends folder. I back up these files the same way I do all the others.

I am currently very satisfied with this workflow. There are a few sticking points that I’d like to improve, and I wish I had a UI for searching all of my files on my phone (that wasn’t OneDrive) but at least I have a system that works for me, is future proof to a degree, that I can control, and that is fast.

Writing Report September 19, 2017

As I mentioned elsewhere, I recently wrote a one act grand guignol style play (4,700 words) in a single afternoon.

Let me clarify that:  I typed up the play in a single afternoon, but it had been percolating for three or four days.

Here’s how this writer’s mind works:  While looking up something entirely different, I came across a reference to Le Grand Guignol, the notorious Parisian theater of blood and horror.

I’d known about Le Grand Guignol since…well…childhood actually (thank you, Forry Ackerman!) and had seen posters and pictures and brief synopsis from a few of its productions but had never read any of the full scripts (many but far from all were based on Poe stories; in flavor they appear to be similar to the classic EC horror comics with a decidedly French accent). 

So, curiosity triggered by the stray reference I’d stumbled across, I did a quick Google search…

…and turned up bupkis.  The theater, it seems, is best remembered for style rather than substance.

But my search did turn up a couple of Le Grand Guignol posers I hadn’t seen before, one showing three clowns peering through a window at a fourth clown stretched out…dead?  Drunk?  Senseless?

No matter, the image stuck with me.  What could that story be? I wondered…

…and immediately began crafting one of my own.

Okay, so first night I got the basic idea:  Three clowns plan to rob a fourth clown who’s in a drunken stupor.  This is Le Grand Guignol, can’t be mere robbery, must be murder.

Well, that implies a personal motive, much more than simple greed, and that would suggest one of the other three clowns is the intended victim’s wife, which in turn means the clown to be robbed must be a pretty crappy human being…

Okay, it was late at night, I didn’t feel like writing any details down, tuck it away until the next day.

But the next day and the day after I kept getting sidetracked by other things, both around the house and with other projects I’m working on.

So it wasn’t until Friday that I actually had a chance to put anything down on paper (and then merely a description of the play’s setting).  Ideas kept bubbling up, but I couldn’t find time to write any of them down.

One thing I did do, however, was to try to work out the mechanics of the story.  I knew how it must end, so it was merely a matter of reverse engineering.  In order for the tragi-farce to play out fully the three thieves needed to turn against one another, the trio (A+B+C) becoming three overlapping couples trying to double cross the third partner in crime (A+B > C / A+C > B / B+C > A).

I spent Saturday trying to figure out the plot mechanics in my head, coming up with great little bits I filed away, but still not committing anything to paper or pixel, still not satisfied with the story.

Something was lacking.

So I thought, Why not add complications?

In this case, complications in the form of two other circus performers who are independently seeking to rob the drunken clown for reasons of their own.

That proved unworkable almost immediately.  Too many crooks spoiling the broth, especially since one of the other performers would be a magician and the clowns wouldn’t want him involved in the robbery for fear he’d palm much of the loot.

But the fourth performer, she could stay, a rival to the victim’s wife.

Well, that certainly opened up fertile new territory, and so Sunday, after clearing my decks of some household duties, I sat down and start writing.  (Finally!)

I was surprised at how much work my subconscious had done over the previous four days.  While writing, I’d find myself adding details to the location, or particular lines of dialog to characters, with no clear idea of what I would do with them or what they meant…

…but as I got closer and closer to the climax, I saw I was laying track for my conclusion, not just laying track for the ending I planned, but building on it in new and startling ways.

I’m still not completely finished with it -- still some character names to finalize, some dialog to polish -- but I’m at least 95% done.

Housekeeping note:  Over the next few days / weeks / months I’m going to be going through and deleting or reposting a number of my older posts.

The deletions will be time oriented stuff such as convention announcements, comments on ongoing events, etc.

The reposts will be things I had done with the old blog format in mind, the one with a dark charcoal grey background and using Wordpress, which enable me to experiment with various color and hidden text effects, as well as load up my posts with lots of graphics.

The new Squarespace software doesn’t allow for color text, and while I can imbed illos in the text, I like the look of one big graphic above text so I’m opting to stick with that.

When did you start your blog, and why? I started right before I saw the movie because I knew I’d be obsessed and wanted an area away from my  main multi-fandom blog where I could freely fangirl and shitpost and whatnot. Also, my “likes” on Tumblr were filled with four years worth of BATB meta, fan art and fanfics, and I wanted to clean my likes out so they would actually be a specific place for bookmarking. I had 14,00 likes before I made the blog, and now that I’ve almost completely cleaned it out I have about 900. Still not great, but it’s getting there.

Where did you get the idea for your url? Obviously the growl at the end. I decided I wanted daysinthesuns for my main blog, and I'd had danstevensgrowl saved for a little while. For daysinthesuns, I saved it when the titles for the new songs were announced, I think that was in late summer.

Where did you get the idea for your icon? I didn’t make my icon, I just got it from an icons post by someone on Tumblr. I like the color pink and I love 1991 Belle, so I went with it. 

What was your first choice of url? dayinsthesuns was the first one I had for this blog, then I switched to danstevensgrowl. If you mean what my ultimate choice would be, I’d really like to have daysinthesun or princeadam. On my main blog, my first URL was weareteenageheartsforeveryoung and it stayed like that for 3 years or so.

What was your first icon, or the oldest you can remember? And if you can, post it. This is the one I’ve always had, but on my main blog I had a picture of Miley Cyrus from the movie LOL once, a picture of Elvis once, and my freshman year of high school I had my favorite fan art of Adam hugging Belle from behind with his chin on her shoulder while she’s reading. 

Would you die for the person on your icon? I mean, I consider myself to be Belle, so that’s a bit weird. But if my icon was Adam, yes, in a heartbeat.

Have you ever received anon hate? And if so, for what? When I was 13 I got a ton but I honestly deserved it. I had this ongoing joke where I acted like I was really self-absorbed and snobby ironically, because I actually hated myself and had been struggling with an eating disorder. But either way, I took it too far and I was really obnoxious and people called me out on it, some less gracefully than others.

I feel like in terms of male characters I always love the brooding, angsty, damaged guys with tragic backstories, like Prince Adam or Anakin Skywalker. For female characters, I always like strong, witty, outspoken women, like Belle and Elizabeth Bennet.

Tell us a favorite of yours and why? (Literally any favorite, something that touches you and you’re passionate about.) I guess Beauty and the Beast in general, honestly. There’s so much to love about it, but it really changed my life when I fell in love with it all over again the summer before my freshman year of high school. I was doing a Disney movie marathon alone, because I really didn’t have any friends at the time, and I actually skipped Beauty and the Beast because I figured I remembered it well enough from my childhood that I didn’t need to waste time re-watching it. However, I still had some time to kill before school started, so I watched it again, and not only was I struck by the Beast’s character and how deeply and unconditionally he loved Belle, the message of Beauty and the Beast really got to me. After I recovered from my eating disorder and dealt with (deserved) backlash on Tumblr for my crappy sense of humor and coping skills, I’d become really tough and rigid and pessimistic as a default. Suffering from such an awful illness really kind of stripped me of the usual kindness and warmth I held. Belle kind of helped me get it back, helped me find myself again, and the movie in general helped me to believe that maybe it was okay that I was fat or my voice is weird or that I’m short because I’m eloquent and I’m kind and true beauty is found within. Maybe my words and my heart is enough. I still struggle with believing that today, but I would’ve given up on believing it and given up on myself a long time ago if it wasn’t for Beauty and the Beast. When I started at a new high school after becoming obsessed with Beauty and the Beast, I was both a new person and my old self at once, and the optimism and kindness and open-mindedness I’d regained helped me to finally let people in a bit, and I made a ton of friends. My love for the musical also inspired me to join theatre, which I never would’ve given a thought if I hadn’t loved the musical.
