HUGE /neg rant incoming (this show is my special interest and has been for YEARS. This will all be rambling)

THEY FUCKING COMPLETELY DISREGARDED "MEANWHILE." It directly contradicts it. "I offered to reset time to the moment before time stopped!" Okay, but you didn't though. The entire tragedy of the ending was that they'd be doomed to relive their lives from the moment they met (s1 e1) on loop. "Want to go around again?" Okay so that line doesn't make sense anymore!!! I had theories upon theories before the season came out and I was beyond disappointed. This show has shown it can do deep thought-out themes, I was fully hoping for them to show them reliving the past again, maybe its their 1,000th time reliving it, maybe Fry or Leela notices for once that something is familiar about it. Hell maybe there's a 1 in a million chance that they DON'T break the button! Free will and all, maybe things aren't 100% the same each run and they get lucky once. This also could have been used to recap old seasons for people who didn't rewatch them

They don't know how much time has passed?? I understand that was an excuse to make it the year 3023, but why would you do that? What's the point??

Things such as the Scary Door reboot don't make sense, not to mention the overuse of "haha it's a reboot!! Get it?? It's a reboot!! We got cancelled!!!" jokes but I'll get to that later. Timeline things just don't make sense anymore because of the time freeze. It's an awful awful awful writing choice. They unfroze time right where it paused, canonically, they show them unfreezing exactly there, it makes zero sense. How is there new technology and new TV shows when no time has passed. I'm ignoring that it's "10 years later" because it isn't, you can't just say that without showing it, it literally isn't

Even the smaller jokes feel very dragged out? Like Bender laughing at Fry setting a goal in episode one. He laughs and Leela smacks him, his head spins around and it's funny, then his body does an extra spin for no reason other than to emphasize that it's a joke? I guess? And then not even a minute later she slaps his hand again and it dramatically flies back and hits Zoidberg. Do you get what I'm saying? It's just too much focus on every single bit

I do like the updated intro! The added details to the city in the background is super super cool!! I love the thought they put into it (Bender hanging out of the ship on the magnet is a bit much considering all of the other references they included, but I'll let it slide. Just doesn't feel necessary to me in the intro)

The animation is rigged now:/ it's bound to happen nowadays, it just feels sad to look at for me (in general, not just with this show) the characters (ESPECIALLY Fry) feel very off model sometimes:(

Oh my GOD. The Hulu/reboot references. It's EXHAUSTING to watch. The amount of 2023 references they crammed into this season is physically painful, they drag them out for SO LONG

(in the first ep) the non-binary robots joke was funny and the scenes with Calculon and the Robot Devil were the only scenes that felt like old Futurama! Their voice acting was great and it was funny! The rest of the voice acting feels very lackluster and most of the other jokes just didn't get me

Calculon and the Robot Devil were the funniest characters, that's how dumbed down they made Bender, he's not my favorite that season

The plots are just. Bad. I hate to say it I really do. Shut up with the reboot jokes, the covid19 jokes, the only decent one was the bit mining episode because it actually used the idea as a real jumping off point and that episode still wasn't revolutionary. The other half of the episodes are pure callbacks. The one with Amy and Kifs kids was cute because it had a reason to exist! It wasn't a very funny episode but it was cute!! The other ones like the worm parasites in nibblers litter box (OR GOD FORBID THE ONE WHERE THE TIME MACHINE SHOWS UP OUT OF NOWHERE AGAIN WITH NO DRIVER??) make me MAD with how lazy of an excuse they are to cram in a reference without matching the rest of the lore

I'm fully assuming the reboot came from a place of love from the writers and the VAs but personally I didn't think the new season was very funny nor did it add anything new to the series, and it felt very very bland and dumbed down and I didn't even pay attention to the last few episodes because of it (that is saying something coming from me)

I rewatched the first episode for this so this is mainly talking about that one. Tell me if you want me to talk about the others I have so many thoughts this is me summarizing like all hell I hate the plots so much and this is my all time favorite show I'm still going to watch the next season and I still have high hopes for it

What are your favourite aspects of sci fi? Themes, tropes, specific stories, anything that comes to mind

i love so much about scifi,,,the unique and creative ways people talk about present day problems and institutions, the way people envision futures. i love dystopias i love utopias i love it saur much! as for specific stories, i (unfortunately) really like harlan ellison and ray bradbury (fun fact, my grandma's friend used to drive him around because he hated it himself) also octavia butler despite our adversarial relationship and ursula k le guin, i hate hg wells, philip k dick (previously mentioned friend was his girlfriend for a time), and adolus huxley. i think i spelled his name wrong but i dont care to check the proper spelling. i love holistic critiques, i love when critiques take into account intersectionality and how things like race, gender, ability, and class all interact with one another. less "this white man experiences subjugation despite all odds, isnt that crazy?" those narratives are usually written by white men and i really do not give a fuck anymore. i think a lot of Iconic Sci Fi is just...uninspired and/or ruined by its own limited perspective. sci fi i love involves involved world building that doesnt feel the need to overexplain and kind of throws you into the experience.

some random sci fi media i enjoy: altered carbon, another life, the southern reach trilogy (stan annihilation!), event horizon, the left hand of darkness, vaster than empires and more slow, the ones who walk away from omelas (basically a lot of ursula k le guin...), the veldt, the episode "far beyond the stars" from deep space nine, the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, the spacesuit, moon, -all you zombies-, no one will save you, the girl with all the gifts, special dreams in which you exist, the thing, kindred, and how long til black future month

did you know while i was refreshing my memory and looking up sci fi books, google labeled th white's the once and future king as sci fi? thats so real.

so were not gonna talk abt how marina is tapping into peoples fuckin souls? /lh its just wild to me how splatoon went from fun shooter in the cutest post apocalypse to this like. sci fi fantasy about life finding a way , our dreams being carried on by the next generations and how cool fish are . i cant DEFINE splatoons genre anymore i think it qas always a little magicky with the calimari inkantations history but the mem cakes and beyond have moved this game into a extremely. BIZAREE category that isnt one. its a shooter about squids and looking into its lore is gonna make you realize some.stuff about you and the universe and that youre probably into girls

Worldbuilding stackoverflow isnt fun anymore, nowadays its all just guys saying "no. You can not do this, nothing interesting or surreal can ever happen in a sci fi or fantasy story." That and guys somehow managing to be extremely homophobic and transphobic on a forum thats suppsed to be about helping people with physics problems. I think there must have been some mod turnover or something. Very sad. Like when a local swamp gets bulldozed by a land developer.

Sci Fi Month :Close Encounters of the Third Kind

In this 1977 film , Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfus ),is among many who witness a UFO,becoming utterly obsessed with it while the government lead by  Claude Lacombe (Francois Truffaut ) investigates this possible chance at first contact

For the purposes of this review I watched the theatrrical cut ,I dont know if that was the right call,cause it did feel like stuff was cut out ,but this film blew audiences away in 1977 ,so I wanted to see that version

So back in the day this movie was a big deal ,Stephen Spielbergs second blockbuster,helping lead to the Sci Fi boom of the late 70's and 80's ,it was praised by Ray Bradbury , and even when I was a kid it was considered a big deal .....That has stopped,I dont really hear people talk about this as one of Spielbergs greats anymore ,in fact its not discussed that much at all nowadays

As for me ?I like id ,thought it was pretty good ,though it is not a favorite . Honestly I get both why it was a big splash back in the day but why it isnt as talked about now

What makes the film work is it really dials up the mystery ,for every clue there is a question and the ones that dont need to be answered arent answered .I also commend the film for telling a belivable first contact narrative ,with no monsters or villains ,and handling sci fi with a realistic lens.ACticing is all good ,Richard Dreyfuss is a good lead , Teri Garr was solid as the struggling wife ,Tobert Blossom has a fun small role as a farmer who witnesses the aliens ,Melinda Dillon is belivable as a frightened mother and Bob Balaban is really good as a translator .The performance and charaqcter I like the most though is from a non actor ,French filmmaker Francois Truffaut really stole the movie as a UFO expert ,and his performance really impressed me .The reaql star of the film though are the effects which hold up even 45 years later,like these effects are spectacular

The problem with the film really is the main characters arc ,cause it is very polarizing What I think the film is trying to do .He's a normal guy whose find himself drawn to something grand...PRoblem is well,the interpertation I got is the guy is having a meltdown due to an obsession ,which destroys his realtionship with his family and is....REwarded for it.I guess the fact we get NO closure with the family doesnt help.I know Spielberg regrets the ending ,but the ending itself doesnt bother me ,I think its the right ending ,the way getting to it does .I also have seen the film interpreted as an allegory for mental illness and due to my own experiences ,I cringe at this interpertation ,cause if it is ....How Terri Garrs character handles it is not how ya deal with mental illnesses

Okay here are my thoughts on volume 2 and season 4 as a whole:

-Will being pushed to the back was so unnecessary. Him and El are kinda the main characters of this show and there was a lot of El which was rlly nice but Will really wasnt there this season and why? Like i genuinely dont understand why. I missed him hes my favorite character

^ And mike and johnathan too?? like usually mike is so important hes like comes up plans and shit and he just wasnt?? there?? and i kinda feel like mikes character was nuked this season. His (and Wills) whole plotline this season was around his relationship with El... come on I want to see little micheal wheeler fight monsters with his friends. and ive also seen a lot of people reminding us how caring he was in season 1 and 2 and yeah. he rlly was and i miss that i dont believe that puberty hit and now mike only cares abt el like his character doesnt make sense anymore and i dont know why

- I honestly lowkey hated the cali plot and i rlly feel like the show would have been a lot better if the byers never moved. like they had to relocate bc of El and Joyce wanted a fresh start or something i dont remember but they very easily could have just not wrote that in. I just think that a lot of problems ppl are having with this season could have been avoid if the byers never moved.

-Aryle... hes definitely great. But i just...you know hes a fun character but thats kind of ALL he is. he is literally just a comic relief and is pretty useless throughout the whole season besides driving the cali gang which could have easily been done by johnathan instead of introducing a whole new character that probably isnt going to stay next season because hes supposed to be in california (which you know this whole problem could have been avoided if the byers never moved)

-the way our characters were split this season was a little weird but also not? like it made sense bc the groups this season were based off of just where everyone was but like i said, i wish the byers never moved. plus all the fan favorites were in hawkins and sometimes it felt like that was the only important storyline happening. like the cali gang just felt so behind compared to what was happening in hawkins

-my whole life would be infinitely better if every season was still set during halloween each year

-As much as i love this show, I think some of its charm has been lost... As our characters (mostly talking abt the kids here because they have always been the main focus since the beginning) have grown up it feels like maybe the duffers and writers of the show have focused a little too much on the fact that they are growing up and having relationships instead of focusing on what the show was originally about. a fun sci-fi show with monsters and kids saving the day and having little lighthearted relationships in the corner. I dont know if my point if coming across right but like it felt like theres just a little too much focus on the characters romantic relationships and honestly i dont care!! i want to watch monsters and kids figuring out how to defeat them in a fun 80s aesthetic! i am tired of the drama between stancy and jancy and as much as i would love byler i would be okay with mileven if they would have focused on their relationship less bc like i said earlier his relationship with el was mikes entire plotline this season. which just makes me sad because i usually love his character. yes even thought hes a little shit thats what makes him so loveable, because hes a little shit and he used to care abt saving all of his friends

This kind of ended in a rant but those were the problems I had with this season. I was definitely disappointed with a lot of stuff in volume 2 but I still enjoyed watching it as much as I could because this show is still really good and means a lot to a lot of people. I hope the duffers can like fix themselves because I would hate to see this show get like ruined because of bad writing in the later seasons.

Mmm so i tried to play some of that Wuthering/*/*/Waves game that came out today

Bc its a Genshin-like and hey its sort of the time of the Genshin update where not much is going on. Why not try it out?

Especially as my pathway into Genshin was "haha, lets see how bad this Chinese BOTW-like is" to "... oh no i'm actually having a LOT of fun"

And... boy i dont think i've ever played a game thats so shamelessly a rip-off of another one, and fails to carve even one iota of its own identity.....

Look, i'll admit. My play time is probably less than 3 hours. Mostly just trying to follow the main story. Until i unlocked the gacha, and tried to run around and see what the open world had to offer for a bit.

And its.... its Genshin. Its Genshin with a slightly more sci-fi skin, made by a company that isn't quite to the same standard of quality.

The combat is different, and i WILL give it the fact that its got good punch. Long term, I can see this being more interesting than Genshin's (Which i admit is a little button spammy and not very strategic anymore - especially as i ignore Spiral Abyss)

..... But its about the only system that i felt had the right level of polish? Jumping felt wrong, climbing felt wrong. I tried to do the fast climbing up a wall and the main character just went into the sprint animation. The subtitles dont scroll down when youre not in a proper "cutscene", and it doesnt seem to be scrollable, so you miss entire sentences. I dont know if you can change the dub language, since I just want to play my games in English, but if you did change your language... thats.... not great? Theres also weird pacing issues with the voice acting, where it seems like they didn't quite give the English voice lines enough time to be said, pause for breathing, and move onto the next line. It feels unnatural. Plus - some of the translation is a little odd? You get a dialogue option like "What happens when someone Overclocks" and the response from the character is "Overclocking is *thing*". Like... the option was "what happens when you do this thing?", not "what is thing (You just explained 2 seconds ago)?"

UI wise, it all felt overly familiar. Everything is in exactly. the. same. place. The pause menu is a little different, but not a huge amount. Many character systems are the same.

Overworld, the bit i explored seemed a little... empty? There wasnt really a lot i could see to do. I found a mechanic that is basically seeles..... I found a domain that had the same kind of UI going on. I found a puzzle that isnt directly ripped from Genshin.... because its the magnesis/ Ultrahand Korok block puzzles from BOTW/ TOTK....

Theres nothing i played that felt unique to this game? Maybe the echo system, which I probably havent played with enough, but i dont think that alone is enough of a draw on its own? It feels like it needs something more significant to really set it apart and let it be its Own Game.

But truly the worst sin - they gave the main character the title of "Rover". Which sure feels like "Traveller", but not. Except.... they dont put an article before "Rover". And the translators really really should have. Because Rover.... is a stereotypical dog name. "The Rover" would sound a looooooot better.

The thing is tho, i bet none of this would bother you if you never played Genshin? A game which, honestly, I do not recommend you picking up if you havent played it yet. Because youre looking at 100+ hours of cutscene just to catch up. This... might actually be a good option if you want to try that kind of game, but are daunted by the amount of content in Genshin? It needs a bit more polish but I dont think its bad. Just obviously a little lower budget, or the team isnt quite as experienced. But i cant play this game and not go ".... this isnt as good as the game that its clearly trying so hard to be???" And maybe if Genshin was a typical story-based game that just released in one go, and i'd finished it, i'd be more forgiving? Like an "oh boy, two cakes!" kind of situation? But side by side... and I can't help but compare and find this new game lacking.

Most of the new authors I discovered have only one book out, or I have no interest in their other stuff. Or I have already read everything they wrote like Ted Chiang. Naomi Kritzer is one of the few authors that does have a decent backlist that I discovered this year. And Amy Thomson! these were both older specfic so maybe I should be reading moreolder fantasy and sci fi...

What genre did you read the most of?

I'm using my storygraph stats for this, which are wildly inaccurate because that site is frankly, trash. I imported my library and it got 85 books out of 100? And just didnt import some of the most popular books like tipping the velvet while creating new entries for the fucking arknigths manga. It's still easier than counting one by one though so...

lgbt isnt a genre despite what storygraph says so fantasy I guess!

I set out 20 books I want to read (or dnf) at the start of the year so I got to all of them at least. There is more I want to read always but nothing that specific I regret not getting to.

Most of the books I read were not released in 2022, but for this specifically I'm going to mention eliana's song duology again because they came out in the early 2000s which is on the older end of the books I read. tbh I feel like these books would have done better if they came out today .

for my fiction im still on the same damn thing i wanted to do years ago: i want to use fantastical worlds to explore and understand the experiences of our real one. like fantasy and sci-fi and magical realism not as a jaunt into the unknown for the sake of jaunting into the unknown (which is great! not saying it isnt, jus saying thats not what i wanna do) but as a way to like...delve into real experiences that feel almost too much to be real. grief, guilt, hatred, love, all that jazz. i only have three (3) posted original fiction works (which you can read here!!!) but when i do get back into it, i will be working on this concept and how to get better at it.

How strictly do you follow canon?  — there isnt much canon to go off of i think? the album barely even states if ziggy is an alien and b*wie himself got really wishy washy about it (sometimes saying z is a human who was contacted by aliens, he was an alien himself, etc). i dont think we know anything about him besides what he looks like (red hair / weird eyes / pale / “well hung” lmao) and he has a band called the spiders from mars, he plays the guitar left handed, he’s bisexual + androgynous, and he’s charming and popular with the teens but inevitably is a victim of his own ego. and he dies.  that too.  but that’s literally it! we know Nothing else about him.  so i filled in all the gaps because my brain has worms.  theres a little bit of the story that verges on fantasy (that he’s some sort of messiah messenger for “the infinites,” whatever the fuck THAT means, david) so i nix that because i prefer hard scifi.  and theres one BIG part that i just ... deleted out of his canon, in that the world is ending in 5 years in his timeline, and he’s like ... aware of this ?  but that’s dumb and confusing.  i legit dont care anymore. my OC now.

Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  im so embarrassed i know i could be genuine and actually try but i have brain blockajjolajlakala33lak33klak333ak3jka3akjj323j3 i guess it’s like ... ziggy is truly the ultimate expression OF humanity because he reveals everything both wrong and right about the human condition, he literally embodies the best of humanity and the worst at the same time, he’s a really interesting critique on the idea of genuineness/earnestness vs commercalism in art, the perils of fame, and also how humans are so inherently corrupting?  a lot of thematic stuff i like exploring is like what is innate to humans vs what is learned behavior, what are things that humans do naturally that ziggy mimics out of his desire to be like us?  i think he has a really good story arc -- he went from being a literal nameless CLONE in a society full of pragmatic forward thinking science-oriented people to a sell out rockstar celebrity in a society of people that value individualism and self expression and art, but in the process completely lost his mind and himself and gave into the worst that humanity has to offer like rampant selfishness, drug abuse, self destructive tendencies, etc. characters changing is always interesting and ziggy truly changes for the worse -- but he is never just black and white, he was never good and then suddenly evil, he just was always the same person putting on different facades and trying to be himself by constructing an identity that maybe was who he wanted to be versus who he actually is.  i dont know what im talking about. hes just an alien trying to be too hard to be human in all the wrong ways.   i just like how “gray” ziggy is. he isnt good or bad, he can be very nice and he can be very mean, he’s overtly showboating confident but at the same time deeply afflicted with self-consciousness (why tf else would anyone be So obsessed with how they present themselves?).  hes an icon of individualism but also commercialism.  he’s freakishly alien but is almost more human than humans themselves.  he struggles as lot in his head -- which makes for interesting writing, i guess !!  Im so emabrrased im not going to go back and read what i wrote so if i typoed dont look at me

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  i think ziggy comes across as really mean and nothing else.  his horrible bitchy rudeness comes across as hee hee hoo hoo sassy isnt he a rascal when it’s supposed to be more like ... he’s so far gone into the celebrity delusion he’s conflated aggressive rudeness with charmingness because no one told him otherwise and everyone worships him to the point where he’s just given into the delusion that he can do no wrong.  i think theres the general simplification problem that happens with a lot of fictional characters, it’s easy to see him as just a whacky sassy glittery quirky rockstar when i guess it avoids the inherent tragedy of like ... everything else about him. his totally fake and false sense of identity built up from superficial things like fame and labels and stardom.  maybe my version of ziggy is just too weirdly depressing and sad when i know his original iteration wasn’t quite so ... grim.  im not very sure tbh.  

What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  hmmm ... a lot of things! i just really got into b*wie stuff in early 2019, i’ve ALWAYS loved aliens and sci-fi, and i was really shocked that db sets up such great visual storytelling potential but does it through music.  i just really liked ziggys “story” and i like any chance to think about aliens so i just got invested into piecing together a little backstory for him using, like, the cumulative knowledge of literally every other piece of science fiction ive ever consumed in my life.  this was summer 2019 when i was making initial pitches for my thesis film, and so i just randomly decided to pitch “animated version of ziggy stardust” as one of the potential ideas.  shockingly everyone liked it a lot and so did my professor who thought it was really cool, and then i just ended up sticking with the character and working on him for an entire year.  ziggy became my hobby but also my homework.  he was such a fun character because everything about him was interesting to me and i had just enough source material to have a starting point but so much room to take him in any direction i wanted to.

What keeps your inspiration going?  —  honestly, yooooou guyssssss. i have some really amazing fwends that ive met thru here .... and some of our dumb stupid stories have literally become NOVEL length. it just self generates inspiration because you realize the limitless amount of stories you could tell with this one single character when your character enters his story or he enters their story and etc. etc.  ive drawn endless amounts of comics and stuff for him ... ziggy is just so endlessly interesting ...   cringe be cringed bro but recently (i know this sounds dumb bear with me or die.) ive kind of realized a lot of how i rp z comes as some metaphor for the experience of being an asian immigrant/being asian in the US -- his home “culture” is a lot stricter than the rampant selfish individualism of the usa (he only lives in the uk and usa, so he thinks the whole planet is like this), he’s dissuaded from standing out from his community and his selfishness becomes a community burden rather than a personal flaw, and when he does come to earth, he goes through such awful culture shock, literally nothing makes sense to him and everything is Different.  and while some things are different in a Nice way, something things are different in an Awful way, and he’s given the option between losing his true personal identity as an atominan and giving it up to be a human.  the allure of being a human is a little too much but losing yourself like this is traumatic, in a way.  obvs like ... a little silly and definitely not something that i actively intended to put into his story arc, its just something that fell into place cuz i guess i worked so closely with my own personal experiences and feelings of “alienation” (pun intended) to try to understand how he would feel being a literal alien an shid. its cathartic to write about him. but he also has a lot of my own personal interests just thrown in -- 70s fashion, scifi, science, tryhard implications about human nature, art history, whatever dumb nonsense i get into

Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  definitely!  like i said ... my version of ziggy ended up being the protag of my thesis film and for 1 yr straight his characterization, backstory, design, and even how i wanted to animate his fucking movements (ziggy stardust timing charts.) were beaten to death in a classroom environment, torn apart and rebuilt into something better.  had i stayed with what i originally wanted to go with, ziggy would be so different than how i write him 2day. amazingly my pre production professor is a literal two time emmy award winning storyboard artist and animator so he definitely helped me design him (my version of ziggy is meant for ... a cartoon, obviously, not real life) and give him a better backstory?  and my post production professor is a retired disney animator who worked on hercules and a bunch of old disney channel shows?  had i gone wah wah wah i dont want to hear ur critiques i wouldnt have made him better.  if you ever think ziggy seems inconsistent or poorly written ... tell me !! i literally major in ... animation. cartoons. entertainment.  my job is to entertain you. if you are not entertained, there is a problem.  ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED ????

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  i feel like a lot of b*wie stans would find my version of ziggy weird but i mean thats fine!  i guess my goal is to have a well written character, not necessarily an accurate version of ziggy

aye glad u asked!! u can google it bc it stands for something but its basically tht nice tingly feeling u get in ur head/body when someone plays w ur hair or whispers in ur ear?? and on yt it’s a community of ppl who produce videos that intentionally create this feeling. some ppl find it creepy/weird but i LUV it

ppl use it for a lot of things, but ive been watching it every night for a lil over a yr for a few reasons:1) it’s a good alternative for music if im overstimulated or jus want quiet background noise while i play on my phone or do other stuff before bed2) feels nice3) it’s ppl talking to u which is good if ur lonely or bad w irl humans. it’s helped me immensely.4) a lot of asmrists r rlly pretty girls & i like looking at them + hearing them talk + seeing them smile & exist. theyre like. g rated cam girls hahah. im actually rlly attached to a few, i feel like i kno them personally jus cuz they talk to me every night jus not directly5) relaxes u before bed. good for insomnia

My 12x23 (Finale) Opinion

All Along The Watchtower Like many of you, I have very mixed feelings about this episode. First, off, it wasn’t as good as episode 22, but it wasnt a terrible one. It was definitely a nail biter, and pretty high on the stress level, but nowhere near as emotional as the first half of the finale.  So I’ll just jump into the obvious problems. Cas, Crowley, and Rowena are dead, and what appears to be “for good”. Rowena is burnt to a crisp, which the visual was very disturning. Crowley killed himself, complete with “Bye boys” and flashing out from the angel blade. Cas flashed out as well, and left charred wings in the dirt. These things are all indicative of true death to Witches, Demons, and Angels on the show, BUT we still have to wonder if its permenant or not.  On one hand, I dont want it to be permenant, I like the characters, but on the other hand, I feel like there had been too much emphisis put on them since Season 9 than there should have been, and I want the show to go back to focussing on Sam and Dean and not the storylines of side characters. If it was like it was before S9 and these characters where only used to help or antagonize Sam and Dean, or to move the plot forward, then I would be fine with them staying, but the way these side characters have been for a while, has been as though there were 2 shows in the same show. Cas and Crowley running around in the background chasing Lucifer for most of the first half of the season, while Sam and Dean dealt with MOTWs and trying to connect with Mom, seemed very wasteful to me, not to mention off balance and boring. I know there are a lot of big Cas and Crowley fans out there, and Im not saying I hate either character, but in my personal opinion, neither are interesting enough to carry their own storylines apart from Sam and Dean.  As far as the episode itself went, it has great cliff hangers. and some seemed to parallel Swan Song. Mom getting pulled into the AU by Lucifer, was much like Sam/Lucifer pulling Michael/Adam into the pit with him, and Dean left kneeling over Cas’ body was like him kneeling over where the pit had been, though it really didnt hit any Swan Song marks, since it lacked any emotional or beautiful elements, no substancial brother moments at all (but ep 22 was chock full of them, so Ill give it a pass) but I realize it was about finishing the Lucifer end of the season.  I thought some things to be really cheesy though. Luci is being shot by a million bullets made from angel blades and hes barely flenching, yet, one stab from an Angel blade killed Gabriel? Mary punching him with the Enochian brass knuckles hurt him more, also not buying it. Also, Ive always hated Lucifer but he’s becoming even more annoying now. He used to be impressive and now he’s an immature, creepy, weirdo who thinks hes funny but hes not. Im actually glad now that Sam isn’t terrified of him anymore. I dont know if everyone caught it, I actually didnt catch it myself till I watched it a 2nd time, but Lucifer told Sam he doesnt need “the old Sam suit” anymore, so I guess Sam being his One True Vessle story is over.  A traditional Bobby cameo was fun, but Im having a problem with the timeline in which Bobby would have known Mary as a hunter. Not just from the AU, but going back to “The Raid” when Sam said he got the recipe for the Colt bullets from a buddy of his, Mary said “Bobby Singer?” as if she knew him, and I guess she could have, but I dont think Bobby had been a hunter for 40 years give or take, since he only became a hunter after his wife was possessed, but, I guess its possible to have known her, though Ive always associated him with John.  I liked the AU, it was cool looking, very much out of the box for a background set. Even Purgatory was just a forest. Popping in and out of it though was making me dizzy LOL but face it, a seam in space and time is pretty cool. I think they’ll play around with that next season. Though, it teeters on the line between supernatural and sci fi, but I guess if its created by the supernatural, it can fit.  So now we have Jack. Spawn of Lucifer. Kelly is dead, Lucifer is in the AU and the first person he sees is Sam. This could be very interesting. And no, Sam isnt gonna pull an angel blade out and kill him, stuff is gonna happen and I think. at least at first, Jack will be good. Maybe even be the means in which Cas and the gang come back.  So, I liked the episode for its suspense and cliff hangery value, theres more hanging on the cliff this season than last. Last season Sam got shot, and though we all know he’s not going to be DEAD dead, we still worried about how badly he was injured, and we had Mom come back. Now we wonder how dead Cas and the gang are, whats Luci gonna do with mom, How the boys are gonna handle this shitfest of loss, good ole Jack, and what if anything will the BMOL be doing now?  (I dont think we’re done with them at all) So on a scale from Bloodlines to Swan Song, Ill give this an 8, it lacked in emotion, but had nearly more suspense than I can handle and cant wait to see where it leads us in 5 months!!
