Paul Verlaine & Relationship with/thoughts on _____ headcanon

A friendship with Verlaine is tricky and requires lots of work, let alone a relationship. that interaction at the end of stormbringer is proof enough for that sadly...

he has walls so high and thick to get through, anyone with a right mind would give up as the chances of that seem very slim. but once you do... it's a bond so deep and priceless, unique on its own, its worth all the blood and tears.

within the relationship itself, he would be mostly focusing on you though, discarding himself and anything positive to him altogether– which becomes an annoyance in itself and a growing problem. any compliments you try to give, any gifts, displays of affection;

he has trouble accepting them, questioning the 'why' of it– yet at the same time, he would talk you about the weather and interesting things he saw back when he was out. with a little more time, he'd begin to open up about his little attempts at poetry, not expecting you to like it so much nor finding your reactions genuine– he thinks youre overexaggerating, trying to be nice.

though he taught certain people in the mafia and passed on his skills, for you he teaches you self defense, how to optimize your body to its fullest, how to act in certain situations– going as far as to create fake scenarios with him as the offender to put your skills and his teachings to use. you may be in the mafia and stay low but you can never be too careful after all.

still, you must keep it in mind he is a very sad self isolating man, with no contact to the outside world, time entirely lost on him. special days and brthdays is something he avoids, but yours (and chuuya's) he knows and secretly celebrates.

whenever he gathers the courage and not overthinks it, he asks about his little brother, how he is doing, what he is up to– ignoring all your 'i can bring him with me next time, you know? he'd like to see you too.' reconciling with a chuuya whom he more or less messed up the life of is still too much (and too early). But to receive this increased strength/durability, they must get a monthly surgery. If they don't get this surgery, they die. It was confirmed that this is to prevent betrayal. If they don't get this surgery, their bodies will "decay" (like Chuuya's clone in stormbringer)

What if the government implemented this monthly surgery or die because Chuuya managed to escape? They didn't want to lose control of another one of their weapons, so they came up with a , just in case.

Fukuchi's and the DOA motives stem from the horrors committed during the war. Fukuchi hates the politicians for sending their "inferiors" to war and making them suffer, while the politicians reap the rewards.

Chuuya would've been one of those "inferiors", a weapon who the government would've sent to experience hell while they sat comfortably at home.

Chuuya was abducted and experimented on as a kid because of the war. He's a prime example of the government's exploitation.

Chuuya's backstory and Chuuya himself are extremely relevant to BSD right now, since we're focusing on the war and the DOA's goals+motives stem from the atrocities commited during it (gestures to stormbringer and N)

Asagiri will surely tie in Chuuya's backstory to the current manga events. Chuuya is going to be a major player in this arc. Asagiri brought him back for a reason

delighted that i'm so much more fond of chuuya at this point than i was just a couple years ago. it took the stormbringer play, the cannibalism play, and the fifteen manga (still haven't gotten to those two novels in their entirety, I Will Soon I Promise), it took 6ish+ years, but i can confidently say I Get It Now. Now i just need asagiri to break him (affectionate) in the manga and actually give him a character arc already <333
