📚A of JAF recently finished reading: Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick • Rating: 🐲🐲🐲🐲/5 • ⁉️ #qotd: You ever finish reading a book and just not know how to express your feelings about it? • Well, that’s me with Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick. It was my third book of the year and a book I’ve had on my shelf for over three years now. My inability to express my feelings isn’t a reflection of a bad book, quite the opposite. • Ghosts of Heaven is a very unique, slightly strange, and highly thought-provoking book told in 4 “quarters” set in four different time periods (pre-historic to distant future) with only humans and the idea/concept/theme of spirals connecting them. • Sedgwick himself says in the introduction that the quarters can be read in any order, creating different meanings or interpretations for the reader, which in turn adds another level of weirdness and uniqueness to the reading experience. • It’s not a book I’d recommend to everyone, but it is a book I’d recommend. I don’t make sense do I? It’s okay, I’m seeing spirals everywhere. Don’t believe me? The Bad Boys and Nice Guys of the classics... from my perspective 📖. . Today for #lilthisorthat the topic is bay boys or nice guys? I decided to have a little fun with it and stray from more recent books and delve into the classics! I have always felt that Jane Austen writes the “nice guy” her heroes are swoon worthy, charming and have quotes that melt your heart. From Mr Darcy’s “In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” To Captain Wentworth’s “You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever.” SWOON 😍 I fall for Jane’s nice guys EVERY TIME! 💗. . Then there are the Brontes! I feel that the Bronte sister’s wrote about the bad boys from that time period. From the villainous Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights who says “Terror made me cruel; and finding it useless to attempt shaking the creature off, I pulled its wrist on to the broken pane, and rubbed it to and fro till the blood ran down and soaked the bedclothes...” to the mysterious Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre. My favorite line of his is “But I don't mean to flatter you: if you are cast in a different mould to the majority, it is no merit of yours: Nature did it.” These men are angry, resentful, often drunk and even abusive to a point. While these men did not make me swoon they did consume my thoughts as I read about them. I wanted to hug them and tell theme everything would be ok. 🖤. . What do you think? I rearranged my bookshelves AGAIN but omg I’m so happy with the layout now. I unhauled some books, and shifted all the bigger books and hardbacks over to one side, kept my favourites in the middle, and kept a rainbow with my paperbacks on the right.
