Links in Time - The Beginning of Something
New Friends - Part 3
Comic update! I'm really proud of this one and I hope you can tell. I put so much time into this update, probably more than I should have. (My girlfriend keeps telling me I've been very absorbed!)
This one ended up longer than I thought and I probably won't maky my updates this long in the future.
As always you can read more of the story on my blog as I update that more regularly.
Enjoy!

I live for your Soldier!Reader and i am completely (not) normal about this
Oh!! She!!
Let’s go again then!
Mask It
(Y/n) and Link rode together through Hyrule field. They were tasked with surveying the land and making sure no monsters or goons. (Y/n) heard the chattering of Bokoblins and slowly slid from her horse. She listened closely, keeping her hand over her sword as she peeked from behind the trees. Before her was a camp of Bokoblin, cheering and dancing. She made sure she was clear from their point of view and slowly made her way to a bush in front of her. Underneath her foot a branch snapped, and the Bokoblins looked around confused. (Y/n) ducked down, praying they didn’t see her. She didn’t know where Link was, he’d split off from her. The arrogant asshole.
(Y/n) looked up from the bush, finding herself face to face with one of the pig faced monsters. It reared back it’s club, (Y/n) jumped back out of the way. She pulled out her sword and swung hard, catching the Bokoblin and throwing it off its feet. (Y/n) stood, looking up to see the other three Bokoblin running over and screaming. In a panic (Y/n) slaughtered the prone Bokoblin. She suddenly found herself enveloped in a pile of claws, fangs and weapons. (Y/n) let out a scream before finding her sword again, stabbing and striking violently as her instincts kicked in.
A horse rode up to the camp. Link sat atop of his trusty mare, Epona. “(Y/n), what happened?” He asked, his eyes wide as he looked at (Y/n). She was panting, debris of the monsters around her. She held her arm, biting back the pain from the arrow lodged in her shoulder. “Saw a camp.” She hissed, sitting down and carefully pulling off her armor around the arrow. “Decided to investigate. Bit me in my ass.” Link jumped down from Epona, rushing over to her. “Hey, do you need help?” He asked, a shake in his voice. (Y/n) laughed, looking at him. “I forget, you’re still technically a rookie.” She said, her hand wrapping around the arrow. “Watch and learn, kid, soon you’ll be doing this on the battlefield yourself.” She muttered, pulling the arrow out. It tore from her skin with a sickening sound, Link going green watching her.
“Goddess, I— (Y/n).” He said shakily, patting his pouches and diving in when he found bandages. He kneeled beside her, wrapping the gaping wound. (Y/n) leaned back and rested on a log, keeping her eyes closed. “Doesn’t it… hurt?” Link asked tentatively. (Y/n)‘s eyes opened, peering at Link. “Link, how do you think it would feel if you had to pull an arrow out of yourself?” She deadpanned. Link swallowed, finishing the wrap. “I mean… not great.” He muttered. (Y/n) rolled her eyes. “No shit.” She huffed, pulling her armor back on. “But, we’re knights. We power through.” She sighed, slowly standing up. “Come on, we’re not done.” She said, whistling for her horse. Link looked at her, horrified. “What? You’re not going back to the barracks? (Y/n), you’re injured—“
(Y/n)’s head snapped over to Link, a harsh look in her eyes. “Yeah, but we’re knights.” She said bluntly. “I know you want to surpass me, and I won’t let that happen. I’ll still be better than you, no matter how much everyone else likes you.” She climbed on her horse, wincing a bit. She masked it quickly, pulling on the reigns. “And next time, don’t split off from your partner. That’s the fastest way to get them, and yourself, killed. You think you know what it takes to be a knight, but you must learn teamwork.” (Y/n) said calmly. “Get on your horse. Let’s go.”

I'm struggling hard with how to deal with Thor's part, but Legend as Stark is just, practically perfect. Cuz we'll get this gem:
Cap Wars: We need a plan of attack!
Legend, jumping off the plane: I have a plan, attack.
And,
Cap Wars: Is this the first time you lost a soldier?
Legend: We are not soldiers!
Also,
Legend: he wants a monument in the sky with his name plastered...
Wars, eyebrows climbing into his hair:
Legend: ... Son of a bitch.

This was kinda a writing exercise for me since I haven’t written anything in a while. I’m not sure how I feel about it.
I got Hyrule Warriors for Christmas and it’s been occupying my brain quite a bit. I was inspired to write a bit about what might happen after one of the characters falls after my first defeat.
He could taste iron on his tongue and feel dirt crunch between his gritted teeth. His head and heart pounded in unison sending waves of pain through his body. He blinked in vain to clear his blurred vision, but all he could see were distorted images of boots sprinting in and out of sight. He felt as if he became one with the earth absorbing every vibration, every tremor into his body.
Dust powdered over him as the shuffling of feet in combat kicked it into the air. He was lying amidst the chaos of war, yet he could hear none of it. The screeching of monsters, the cries of men, the song of steel, all were drowned out by the singular high pitch ring that pierced his brain like an arrow.
He needed to get up. He had an army to command, men to lead. Leading them he was, lying there. He was leading them to their deaths.
His fingers dug into the dirt beneath him and he willed himself to sit up and then to stand. He felt inclined to regret it. Groaning, he teetered on his feet as his head spun. He decided that he may be in need of a potion or even a fairy. He was feeling particularly dreadful.
Hands gripped his shoulders, his arms, his waist. His mind screamed at him to shake them off. He couldn't be captured! That is the exact motive behind the conquest of the enemy. He was wanted by the sorceress. The sorceress who was tearing apart space and time simply to get his soul into her possession. For what purpose he did not wish to know. If he were to be captured, the war would be lost.
It would be over.
He didn't have the strength to fight off the hands on his person. He hardly had the strength to stand. Slumping forward, he let himself be dragged. He prayed that his men had the good sense to retreat. They shouldn't have to risk their lives for his. They shouldn't have to risk their lives at all.
It would be over soon. If he was all the sorceress wanted, then the land would know peace once more... right? Could it possibly be better this way? Would their legendary hero be better a sacrificial lamb? A martyr.
Would it save more lives if the war ended in defeat?
"Captain."
"Captain Link, can you hear me?"
Link opened his eyes to be met with a white cloth ceiling. The earthy scent of herbs and mushrooms filled his nose as he breathed in.
"Captain." The voice of the medic, he assumed, prodded again.
"Hm," was his only reply. It was an acknowledgement and nothing more.
"Good," said the medic knowing well enough Link's mannerisms to understand that he was listening and awake. "The general will see you in a moment."
The rush of fabric told him that the man had exited the tent.
With a sharp exhale he pushed himself upright to have a glimpse at his injuries. A bandage was wrapped around his ribcage and he found another about his head when he reached to fix his hair. What he also discovered was the intense pain that came with raising his arms too high. Immediately his arms returned to his sides, with a hiss.
"Hey."
Link must've missed the sound of the tent flap opening, distracted by his punishment for reckless movement whilst he was healing. He turned his attention to the sheikah warrior before him who looked him up and down with a thoughtful brow. After a moment, she locked eyes with him.
"Are you alright?" She asked. His face must have betrayed his confusion because she continued with an explanation. "I'm asking if you're okay emotionally and mentally." She pointed to her chest and then her temple. "The reports I had received from your field medic and your other men were... concerning."
Link let his gaze fall to his sheets. Was he alright? He really thought he had fallen into the hands of the enemy and he was starting to think that it would have been better that way. He almost shyly met Impa's gaze once more.
"Could be better..." he answered quietly with a weighted smile.
Impa's expression only grew more concerned. Her lips pressed into a thin line and her brow furrowed.
"Your men said that you fell just after you called for a retreat. Your troops were vastly outnumbered and we hadn't anticipated..." she trailed off with a sigh. So he had called for a retreat. That was good. He grimaced at the thought of the enemy numbers. "I'm sorry, Link. Sometimes in war situations can be unpredictable, but maybe this was a misstep on my part and I could have equipped you better. It certainly wasn't your fault so don't dwell on this battle too much."
The blond soldier nodded slowly, but kept his own thoughts to himself.
"Hey, Link! Are you okay? Are you in any pain? Oh goddesses! I was so worried!" Proxi chimed as she zipped up and down, side to side examining her friend.
Link let out a light laugh at the fairy's antics. He smiled at her sweetly, but it was still weighed down.
The fairy seemed to notice since she flew close and pressed against his cheek in a comforting gesture. "Oh... Don't be hard on yourself Link. Defeat happens from time to time. The only thing that matters is that you get back up again." She backed away from his face so he could see her. "Look you made sure that everyone else would live to fight another day. They trust you and will stand with you. Now all you need to do is take care of yourself! That witch Cia can go... go die in a hole! She's not taking my best friend!"
Link turned his gaze to Impa for a moment. She bore a mild smile on her lips as she nodded with a soft hum.
"Oh! Impa! Hi! I didn't see you there!" Proxi's babbling faded from Link's ears as he entered his own mind once again.
He still wasn't sure if the path he was on was the right one, but so many have fought for him already and some have even died. Would their all efforts be in vain if he gave himself up? No. He couldn't bare to dishonor them in such a way. If he chooses to never give up, then his spirit at least will never be defeated.

I want to go off about Hyrule Warriors Link x Ravio so bad. I love them. I am obsessed with them. And it sucks cause there's hardly any other shippers of this or content. I mean there's the blessed ageless soul au so I can't complain too much.
Like I love regular RavioLink too, but the beauty of falling in love midst war, uk? Link falling for the most cringefail man possible who runs away screaming at the sight of enemies, but also smashes countless heads in with a giant hammer, throws giant bombs to explode them all, and is questionably skilled with various magic items. But also that cringefail rabbit guy tries to sell him overpriced items despite being his superior and never shows his face.
It's nice, Ravio calls him this silly nickname of "Mr. Captain" that quickly became endearing the longer and more casually he used it, and he fact he treats Link the same as everyone else despite, again, Link being his superior. He feels bad about Ravio being sucked into a war that isn't his, but even though Ravio is always talking about how scary it is and how he really doesn't have enough courage for something like this (he does, Link believes), he never once put the blame on Link.
And goddess that stupid, silly dance Ravio does before absolutely wrecking every enemy around him has distracted Link one too many times mid battle.
And then in the few rare downtime they have for rest between battle, Ravio will occasionally tell small, little stories about two different places. But it'd always be small, insignificant things that didn't give much personal info away—in fact Ravio doesn't give much away in general. His name is Ravio, and he's a traveling merchant—that's all. It wasn't until much later, nearly a year into the war, that Ravio revealed one day the name of his home kingdom. But he still hasn't shown his face, or revealed much else.
Perhaps, with all these traitors and backstabbers, Link should really be more on guard with such a secretive guy. At any moment, Ravio could very well turn to the other side, or he could've been part of it the entire time. Yet, despite the paranoia and possible red flags, Link can't do much more than huff and fondly roll his eyes when Ravio very seriously takes his hand with both of his, and presses it to his forehead with a just as serious declaration of "let me absorb your courage".
Yeah I'm sane.

Time and Twilight never really told anyone about their familial connection, but it doesn’t take a genius to see the similarities.
Still messing with Twi’s new design. I think I’ll keep the forehead mark and tattoos on his arm.
Don’t tag as LU, please.

I'm taking this as an opportunity to continue to spread my headcanon that Warriors knits as a hobby. I think Legend also embroiders (with a preference for cross stitch). This is their bonding activity.
I loved writing this little head cannon @gryphonlover and it stopped me writing any whump for once!
I hope you like it.
Hobby Boys
It had been a long day in Twilight's Hyrule. The chain had fought a monster hoard on the edge of Kakariko village. No major injuries to report, only a few cuts and bruises. Although Time had suggested they stay in Kakariko and set off the following day, Twilight wanted to get back to Ordon and check on his neighbours as soon as possible. Not to mention he had been neglecting Epona the last few days and decided a trip to the spring outside his home town would be a nice treat for her.
Wars agreed to the plan reluctantly. He had had enough of walking for days on end, so had most of the others, though they kept their opinions to themselves. They all knew what it was like to end up back in their own eras. The desire to get home to familiar territory and all the comforts that come with it. Wars understood Twi's enthusiasm to get moving, but he didn't have to be happy about it.
While they walked the sun began to dip towards the horizon. They hadn't been to Twilight's era for a while, but Wars was fairly certain they weren't exactly close to Twi's village.
"Twi, I'm not sure we're going to reach Ordon before nightfall," Wars observed, trotting forwards to catch up with their rancher.
"It's okay, we should be there before midnight at least," Twi replied brightly.
"Come on Twi, I know you want to see home as badly as the rest of us. But," Wars lowered his voice, "Wind and Legend are putting on brave faces but that fight definitely took it out of them back there. We should really stop and make camp. Ordon will still be there in the morning, I promise."
Wars urged his friend, laying a comforting hand on his shoulder. Twilight let out a long sigh as he glanced over his shoulder at the rest of the Chain. Wind and Four were walking hand in hand, but the longer Twi looked the more he could see the exhaustion in the teen's eyes. His grip on Four's hand was weak and he dragged his feet along the path. Legend was much the same and Twi had to admit he was being rather selfish.
"Hey guys, I don't think we'll reach Ordon before nightfall. Let's make camp and set out again in the morning after a good rest," Twi announced.
Twi's decision was met with more than a handful of cheers and greatful sighs from the others. Perhaps he had misjudged the distance from Kakariko to Ordon on foot, especially travelling as a large group rather than on his own.
The chain found a small grove of trees to use as shelter as they set up their camp. Wild set about cooking a quick supper for everyone while the others laid out their bed rolls and organised a watch rota. Wind wolfed down the stew Wild cooked up then instantly crashed on his bed roll. Time decided to scratch the teen off the watch rota and let him have a full night's sleep.
Wars was on first watch but not everyone had gone to sleep. Legend sat on a tree stump facing away from the circle of their camp. He seemed to be working away at something in his lap. With a frown Wars got to his feet to see what the Vet was up to.
"You okay Lege?" Wars asked softly, reaching out to lay a hand on the young adventurer's shoulder.
Before Wars could reach him Lege shot to his feet and spun around, hiding whatever he was holding behind his back.
"I'm fine! Hylia! Why do you have to be so nosey Cap?!" Legend exclaimed defensively, his ears turning pinker than the streak in his hair.
"Sorry," Wars replied, taking a step back. Though he thought Legend's reaction was particularly hostile, even for him. "I thought you might be hurt, I was just checking on you. You seemed quite exhausted by our last fight."
"Well I'm not hurt and yeah I'm a bit tired, but I just wanted some alone time. Is that too much to ask?" Legend retorted, there was still venom in his voice but Wars couldn't figure out where it was coming from.
"No it's not. Forgive me for worrying about you!" Wars scoffed, turning on the spot and heading back towards the fire.
He plonked himself down on the ground and pulled his bag towards himself. Legend sat down on his tree stump once again but kept his eyes on Wars for a moment. When he saw the Captain pull out a ball of wool and what looked like a half finished scarf Legend's squinting eyes went wide.
"You knit!" He burst out.
Sky snorted a breath in his sleep and Legend was afraid he might have woken him. He and Wars both checked the others were still asleep before either of them spoke.
"Yes, why do you sound so surprised? Everyone has a hobby don't they? Most of the others play instruments, but I never learnt. So I knit instead, it helps me relax and, it reminds me of my soldiers."
Wars eyes dropped towards the fire as he explained. Legend thought his friend looked sad for a moment. Curious, he moved a little closer to the fire, stepping into its circle of light and warmth.
"Your soldiers?" Legend asked.
"Yeah, one of the guys in my first squad taught me to knit. He said it helped him relax after training. But it also kept his fingers busy when his mind would race through the more terrible aspects of soldiering. When he itched to hit something or throttle the next person to speak, he had his hands full with something that helped him relax instead. I picked up the same habit and now I do a little bit almost every night. When I finish this scarf I think I'll give it to Wind, it's in his colours after all."
Wars held up the woolen scarf for Legend to see. Though the night was dim and the orange glow of the fire obscured the colours a little, Legend could see the scarf had been knitted in pale blue and white bands. Wars had even managed to use a stitch that replicated the shapes of cresting waves which Legend thought was impressive.
"Wow, that's actually pretty neat," he admitted.
"Thanks."
"Why haven't you shown any of us this before?" Legend probed, plopping himself down to sit cross legged in front of the fire.
"Would you have been so nice about it if the others were conscious?" Wars asked, raising an eyebrow.
"True. Sorry, I probably shouldn't admit to that," Legend replied, hanging his head a little.
"It's alright, the other soldiers used to tease me too. Even the ones I used to knit stuff for. But they never meant anything by it. I'm sure you wouldn't either," Wars shrugged, as he picked up his needles and tried to remember where he was in his pattern.
"I suppose it would make me a bit of a hypocrit anyway," Legend mumbled.
"Why?" Wars said slowly, eyeing the bundle Legend had scrunched up in his lap. "What are you trying to hide Lege? It can't be any worse than a Captain knitting scarves!" He scoffed.
Legend hesitated a moment, but Wars was right, perhaps there was no harm in sharing. If the others were awake he and Wars were usually the ones to tease each other for things. If the Captain had trusted him with his secret, perhaps he should return the favour. Legend sighed and opened out the piece of fabric in his lap.
It was a beautiful piece of purple velvet with what appeared to be gold thread woven into it. As Legend held it up for Wars to see he could clearly make out the embroidered patterns of leaves and flowers in the shining golden thread. Tiny little crosses made up the shapes and came together to make quite a beautiful image.
"Rav's favourite colours, hopefully I can finish it before the next time I get to see him," Legend explained.
"It's beautiful Lege," Wars breathed, as he studied the intricate stitches. "How long have you been working on it?"
"Few weeks. Usually takes me about a month to do a piece this big, but I'm working all the hours I can spare on it. Which is usually just when I'm on watch and I won't get distracted by you lot."
"Hmm," Wars nodded, drawing how eyes away from the embroidery and up to Legend's blushing face. "It's really good Lege, I would never have teased you for this. I'm impressed. And it's sweet you're making it for Ravio. I'm sure he'll love it."
"You mean it?" Legend asked, suspicious of how nice Wars was being towards him.
"Cross my heart," Wars replied, making a cross over his chest with his knitting needles. "Honestly Lege it's beautiful. Wish I could embroider. I've been meaning to fix my scarf for ages."
"What do you mean fix it?" Legend asked, he hadn't noticed any damage to Wars' prized blue scarf.
"Yeah, with all the travelling we do through woods and swamps the design on the end has got pretty roughed up. It's supposed to be the royal crest, but quite a lot of the stitches have come loose or disappeared completely. This scarf means a lot to me and I'm ashamed I haven't kept it in very good condition."
Wars pulled the loop of his scarf up to his chin and rubbed his skin against the soft fabric. He'd done his best to keep it clean and stitch up any tears in the fabric, but he didn't have the skill to restore the crest.
"I could fix it for you if you want?" Legend suggested with a shrug.
"You mean it?!" Wars replied brightly, the firelight dancing in his eager eyes.
"Sure. How about you knit me a scarf to give to Ravio as well in payment?"
"Alright that's a deal," Wars nodded, a bright smile spread across his face.
Legend still felt a little embarrassed about his hobby being discovered. But Wars had been so impressed by his hidden talents, Legend was starting to feel better about it. The fact that he could put it to good use helping preserve something important to one of his brothers, even one of the more annoying ones, warmed his heart.
The pair sat together by the rest of the fire for a good few hours, working on their projects and talking quietly together. Sharing stores of things they had created and the friends they had given them to. Unsurprisingly most of Legend's pieces had been given to Ravio, but he also admitted he had left secret little embroideries on some of the Chain's stuff. Little cross stitched flowers or fairies on their packs or blankets. None of them had noticed but Legend didn't do it for praise or approval. He did it because they were his brothers and each piece of work was like giving each of them a little bit of himself to carry with them.
***
As their journey wore on Legend and Wars often found themselves passing time together. During watch or whenever they got separated from the group, they would comfort each other by asking about their latest projects. One morning Wars had woken to find his scarf neatly folded by his bedroll, the immaculate crest staring up at him.
"How did you manage it?" Wars whispered to Legend, that afternoon while they were walking through some woods in Time's era.
"Little bit of time and a little bit of my magic touch," Legend replied with a wink.
"Thank you Link," Wars uttered, flashing Legend a warm smile.
"You're welcome Captain," Legend nodded, before skipping off to walk beside Hyrule.
Wars smiled at the back of Legend's head, thinking about how many rows of stitches he had left to do in Ravio's new scarf.
