My responses for Alana de Riva below the cut because of length.

17. "How many fingers am I holding up? … I don't have six fingers."

Alana's head felt like it would explode. Reality itself was being torn apart, a great gaping wound in the fade unleashing raw magic like nothing they'd ever felt before. Ultraviolet light seared their eyes, and they could only watch in horror as...something, no - two things, two beings whose forms defied reason emerged from the rip in the fabric of the fade, rising triumphantly on either side of Solas.

This was not in the contract.

A concentrated blast of magical energy hit Alana square in the chest, knocking them off their feet, careening backwards head-first into one of the stone pillars that circled the ritual site.

Blackness. Pain.

An arm around them, under their shoulder, dragging them to their feet. Neve's voice, indistinct and muffled. Harding dragging...something away from the site. A crashing sound as giant statues crumbled and fell.

Alana reached around to the back of their head. It felt warm and sticky. Drawing back their hand, they saw it was covered in blood. Their vision blurred and they felt sick.

"Rook, look at me", Neve said firmly, holding them by the shoulder with one hand while she raised the other in front of their face. "How many fingers am I holding up?"

Alana struggled to focus; everything was light and noise and weird angles that made no sense. "Six?" they ventured weakly.

"I don't have six fingers, Rook. But you're in a bad way - we need to get you out of here".

"Varric?" Alana croaked hoarsely.

"Varric is..." Harding stifled a sob. "We'll tell you later, once we're safe".

Alana's injuries overcame them and they crumpled to the ground in a heap, as darkness washed over their mind.

12. “Where are they? Where are they?!”

For three days Neve had chased any lead she could, asked all the usual informants, even cut a deal with the Threads to get information in ways she could not, or would not.

Lucanis had the Crows on high alert. Most were too occupied with the work of clearing blight from Treviso and aiding the sick and injured to leave the city, but Lucanis still had contacts even here in Minrathous.

Spite was screaming in his head, more so than usual, pacing circles around his mind like a caged animal in distress. WHERE IS OUR ROOK? BRING BACK OUR ROOK!

Three days earlier, the Shadow Dragons received a note, pinned to the door of one of their safehouses with a dagger. Rook's dagger. The note bore a Venatori sigil, and simply read "We have them now".

With Rook gone, the team were in disarray, each one looking for them however they could. But it was Neve and Lucanis who tracked the Venatori down first, to an unassuming Dock Town apartment whose cellar led them directly to the catacombs - to a door illuminated with the red sheen of magic, which bore the same Venatori sigil as the note.

Neve blasted through the reinforced wooden door with an explosion of ice magic, shattering the timbers and metal into jagged shards. Now was not the time for subtlety.

Lucanis cut through Venatori left and right, a whirlwind of blades. His eyes glowing purple with Spite's rage as he slashed his way through the first wave of guards until he found a magister - someone who might know something.

On Spite's wings, he soared across the wide arched chamber, knocking the magister to the ground with a leaping kick. YES, KILL! Spite urged in every fibre of his being. No, he resisted with all his will. This one has information. Curling his hand into a fist, Lucanis punched the Venatori magister in the face, breaking his nose with the first blow, then raining hits again and again until his hand was as bloody as the magister's shattered features.

"Where are they?" He yelled, then louder in Spite's rasping voice, "WHERE ARE THEY?!"

"Lucanis, stop!" Neve called out. But Lucanis was lost in Spite's anger, pummeling again and again into the magister's broken skull.

WHERE ARE THEY?! WHERE IS ROOK?!

"Lucanis, I know you're in there", Neve said gently, reaching out to put a hand on his shoulder. Lucanis blinked, and shook his head, the purple light fading as his soft brown eyes looked up at Neve. He dropped the magister's bloody body, tears beginning to form in his eyes.

"Rook".

"There are wards here". Neve gestured to a carved plaque at the side of the stone chamber. "If I can break them, I think this is a hidden door". She channeled her magic, turning her hands in small circles, drawing symbols in the air. The wall shifted slowly with a creak, revealing a second smaller room the other side.

The room held a single figure, manacled in chains, bruised and beaten.

Rook. Alana de Riva. Broken but alive.

Alana looked at Neve and Lucanis through a swollen, blackened eye.

"Took you long enough", they said, spitting out blood.

ROOK! ROOKROOKROOK!

Lucanis spread shimmering purple wings around Rook, as Neve froze their chains then shattered them with a strike. The three of them stayed crouched in the tiny cell for a moment, holding each other.

"I don't know about you two", Alana croaked, "But I could use a drink. Let's get out of here".

Finally ready to share what I've been doing over the last couple of weeks -- an entire month's worth of pride fan art! Happy Pride Month, everyone!

I split the art into roughly six categories: five for the first 5 letters in LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning), and one that acts as the plus for some miscellaneous identities like characters on the aroace spectrum. They aren't hardset categories, and may include ships where only one of the characters identifies as lesbian or gay (sapphic & achillean ships), or are non-romantic duos that are just the representative character and a friend. The drawings vary depending on how I drew the sketches (as well as time constraints because I'm a busy person and only did the sketches in advance), so some may have more detailed backgrounds while others like this one are just a cute pride flag backdrop.

Without further ado, the first drawing of the month, based on my current favorite indie pilot, I Don't Want To Be A Magical Girl by @kianamaiart! This picture features the protagonist, Aika, and her love interest, Zira -- fun fact, Zira is also nonbinary! They use she/they pronouns.

I'm really happy with how Aika's star puffs turned out, they were fun to experiment with in my style. Since the original style doesn't have specific colors for their eyes I just improvised on those. I'm definitely gonna draw these two more often, they're so cute!!!

Mori Vandalarius - Wizard, School of Necromancy
