I am biased b/c my favourite take on Hibari (next to acearo Hibari) is the one who’s secretly a service top in disguise. One who shows tough love, but has mellowed out with age and is fairly domestic (though still quite icy) at the end of the day. Taking his affinity for the small, often overlooked, but resourceful creatures, and extending that to what he likes in his partners. Something about being called, “little one”, by him... drools.

He often takes on quite the authoritative tone, and it’s literally the sexiest thing I’m sosorry y’all. Hibari is initially not as talkative, fairly quiet during sex, aside from giving instructions, and some small comments and mostly matter-of-fact statements. He can and will be convinced to include more praise and/or degradation in the bedroom, though it confuses him at first. He doesn’t understand why his partner would want him to purposefully shit talk them, and he was sure that he praises them enough, straightforwardly, when appropriate. It finally clicks when he sees how they absolutely melt for a simple “good pet,” or how they tense and squirm for him when he calls them a “pathetic hole, so desperate to be filled.”

this is my favorite scene of them. granted they haven't many scenes together so this means little lol, but no, listen, this is my favorite scene of them.

hibari notices at first glance something's wrong with tsuna, and all the way from the helicopter before he even lands (wait actually, could he even see shit from up there lol). and yeah, okay, tsuna isn't making it difficult to notice whatsoever, but this is still a win for them idc. also while gokudera tries to distract him and cheer him up, and reborn tries to refocus his attention on the more pressing issues and to make him approach things the logical way instead of the emotional one (and don't get me wrong because i'm not saying they aren't as valid and meaningful ways to help tsuna as hibari's), hibari actually immediately steps up to do something about it.

he's there to see the state tsuna is in and do something about it, and that's exactly what he does, tackling the issue at its core to get rid of it immediately. he's there to see the state tsuna is in and do something about it, and immediately says "i know what you look like in the face of adversity, i know you and this isn't it, so let me remind you who you are and the way you do things." tsuna is so clearly lost and hesitating, and he says "watch me, this is the way."

and all the while he literally doesn't even have any context for why tsuna is in that state, even if he does pick up on the pride thing and help him with it. but tsuna's clearly in distress and so he's just like "well, not on my goddamn watch, little animal. let me do something about it right this instant". tsuna's clearly in need of help and guidance and reassurance, and he gives all of it to him immediately because that's all that matters. that's all he needs to know.

and like, hello??? if this isn't 1827 then idk what is. if this isn't hibari having just as meaningful and deep a bond with tsuna as everyone else, both as his guardian and friend, in their own ways, THEN IDK WHAT IS.

I think one of my favourite moments in the series is the end of the storm battle. for one i am a die hard gokudera fan and in my opinion only the gamma fight surpasses it. And on the other-

The fact tsuna who is usually so reserved and just lets dera do his thing despite telling him quietly "you really don't have to"

Gets SO pissed at Gokudera for DARING to put his life on the line for this. A piece of jewelery and an empty title..

He calls it all meaningless if that means they cant just hang out together anymore.

Dera who links his own worth as a human being to his usefulness and position as a mafiosi is told "I just want you alive and by my side" in i think one of the most direct "this is the core of the whole series" moments we get.

When yamamoto faces ken he still holds back bc he doesnt want to get injured but as soon as TSUNA is in danger he says "fuck it" and gets serious.

In the shimon arc hibari picks up on tsunas depressive state and it annoys him so he changes that in his own way.

Its how mukuro in the rainbow trials cares for a tired fran.

Its how during the ring battles the girls and mama Sawada CONSTANTLY visit Lambo to make sure he is okay.

Its also how tsuna saves him in the first place. Fuck the rings, fuck the position, fuck this whole stupid arangement of fights- he has to save his family.

These people often get violent with each other and agressive, they bicker and they fight, but when the chips are down, all they care about is each other.

Most shounen protags have some kind of dream or goal, Tsuna just really really wants a quiet life and to spend that with his friends and family. The whole mafia buisness is just what he needs to do to keep that family he gained safe. Nothing tsuna EVER does is motivated by some ulterior motive for fame or riches. Its either him being FORCED into action bc he was literally kicked into it by reborn, or its because he has to resolve the situation to keep his friends and family safe.

The Caallone has a FUCKTON of members and so does the vongola and Tsuna really really really really REALLY doesnt care for any of that because in the end his own world is very small compared to the mafia.

I have to think of that one quote "why do you want to save this planet?" -"Because I live here!" for tsuna it would be "because my family lives here."

I mean be Tsuna isn't "heroic". Yeah he cares about other people and strangers, he helps old ladies, but when something is going on his go to isn't "I have to do something!" it's uauslly "man I hope SOMEONE does something. Not gonna be me tho!"

HELLO AGAIN, thank you for the ask. Don't apologize at all for length, I'm absolutely foaming reading this.

I'm so glad you get what I was going for in the post. Those moments drive me insane. "They bicker and they fight but when the chips are down, all they care about is each other" and "Because my family lives here" I FEEL ABSOLUTELY INSANE ABOUT THESE LINES. You're so so right!!! The Vongola kids bully and tease and are nasty to each other, until it comes down to it and they fight tooth and nail for each other. Exactly what I was going for. The series doesn't need those scenes where Tsuna tells Gokudera he cares about him and they're warm and cuddly towards each other, bc it comes through in his words when meek and reserved Tsuna yells at him and tells him to stop trying to die for him or for some stupid ring. And I think that's so fun!! All the other stuff you listed also drives me so insane. For yamamoto, him letting himself get injured for Tsuna's sake was so good and Tsuna's love for Yamamoto shone through there too because Tsuna saw the injury and felt such immense guilt only apologizing for ruining everything for Yamamoto. Only for Yamamoto to go "No, I'm fine. As long as YOU'RE safe" like that's so good???

The Hibari thing?? How he sees Tsuna's depressed state over it all and all he says to comfort him is "Watch me." because that's all he could understand about the situation. That if he wins his fight, somehow Tsuna will cheer up. and its just so???? GOD ITS JUST SO FULL OF LOVE. Every character in this series shows love in their own ways and it drives me maddd

Mukuro taking care of a tired child too doesn't surprise me with his backstory. He's so gentle with people that are in "his care" even if he won't actively admit it.

The girls as well I'm so glad you pointed them out!! We so like to ignore them in this fandom and thats so sad bc the series makes it really clear that they are part of this equation too. That without their support, the fighters would not have made it. Tsuna could relax knowing Mama Sawada and the girls were watching Lambo and focus on his fight. And during future, he could focus on his training. Not to mention, they're just so supportive especially after they find out what's going on. The boycott episode and its resolution are some of my favorite scenes in Future, it makes me insane that the show gave the girls a Moment to remind us that they too are both deeply loved and ALSO love the boys just the same.

You're so right about Tsuna not being heroic, hell even in Shimon arc Enma is being bullied right infront of him and its Reborn that has to be like "STOP OR SAWADA TSUNAYOSHI WILL HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!" He's kindhearted and he's got a good moral compass.. It's hard to explain, but you basically have to be IN Tsuna's circle for you to get that sort of "I will die for you" behavior kksjng otherwise he sorta reverts back to his "who me? im just a 14 yr old boy im nobody"

This is an obvious given. Naoya initially actually interacts more with Tsuna than Hibari, due to a mix of plot reasons and ofc, let’s admit it, Hibari isn’t really friendly even the last time we saw of them in canon. AGREEABLY I understand why Hibari dislikes Naoya in the beginning, so I’ll just leave it at that.

4. Byakuran

It’s not about compatibility. But ‘attraction’ here. Even though it’s the newest / latest development I looked into- just literally I thought about it three days ago x’D It’s also one of the most interesting. As actually I should’ve thought about it sooner.

Day five! I know we have basically all of them made to fit their flames but if you could reassign the tenth vongola swuad new flames, which woulf you mix up? Anyone else in khr you'd assign a different flame?

Ohh, this was a really fantastic question! I actually had to stop and really think about this one for quite a while! I hope you’ll enjoy my opinions on the subject and thank you so much for sending this in!

When it comes to Vongola Decimo’s family, you are very right. The flames really are built up around each character, making certain that each of the Guardians really fits their flame types. The same applies to the Vongola Primo generation, who really are just sort of ‘copy paste’ of the Vongola Decimo family, so it makes sense.

I think the only thing I might possibly change at all would be Hibari’s secondary flame type. It really makes little sense to me for him to have a Mist Flame and I always felt like it was mostly done as a ‘haha, irony, he hates Mist Flame users but is one himself’ kind of deal instead of it being done because the flame type genuinely fits him. While I definitely do agree that he would be among the very few characters who can use multiple flame types easily, I always personally thought that his secondary flame type would be Sun or Storm. I’ve always leaned more towards Storm for him but have also seen arguments for Sun that really have swayed me in that direction as well.

Now, as far as the flame types I would change, I’ve always been very vocal about the fact that there are a lot of Flame types among the Arcobaleno that make no sense to me. They’re the group that I would definitely make some switches to and where I feel that maybe earlier manga colouring were the only reason they have the flame types that they do.

I really don’t think that Reborn fits the Sun Flame category, though I know I’m getting into really controversial and unpopular opinions saying that and I don’t get Fon being a Storm Flame. To me, I would honestly switch the flames between the two.

In my head, I really do think Reborn makes a better Storm Flame and I strongly headcanon that no matter what his primary flame type is, that he would be along the lines of Gokudera, a genius that possesses the capability to use different flames and that his main secondary flame would be a Rain flame, just based on his fighting style and prowess.

Meanwhile I do think that Fon fits a Sun Flame better, as a very hands on and physical fighter.

Other than that, it’s really only fanon accepted flames where I sometimes have to go…that just doesn’t compute to my brain, I really think this makes more sense. One example that I was just talking about with a lovely friend is what flame types fanon believes that Shamal would have. To me, Shamal is a classic Sun Flame. The trident mosquitoes use viruses lifted from his body, meaning he is quite literally fighting using parts of his body/blood and the fact that Sun’s ability is that of activation, and healing is part of that, it really suits his position as a doctor.

I also do think that Haru has a Storm Flame, while Kyoko is strongly a Rain Flame in my head every time, despite the fact that genetics say she has to be a Sun Flame. I do get the arguments for her being a Sun Flame, besides just that her brother is one but in my head, it just makes most sense for her to be a Rain Flame.

Also, there is nothing, nothing I have ever seen that makes me believe that Naito Longchamp is a Sky Flame. Yes, he’s a boss…no, I just cannot believe that he has a Sky Flame and the harmonizing abilities of it.

you could never translate them literally. every single language has words for queer people like this both self id and derogatory terms. i mean translated literally "queer" just means "strange"...

even if a translator has good intentions (and they dont always, bc theyre humans w their own biases) they risk misrepresenting someones identity or calling them a slur. pronouns are kind of a wild clusterfuck in any language but neopronouns? gender neutral terms?

theres genders/sexualities in other languages and cultures that cannot possibly be translated. the way we think about these things can just be mutually incoherent

and if youre dealing with works that use older terms whose meanings have shifted or that have been discarded its almost impossible. its kind of an exercise in futility but im so fascinated by this!!

think of a reincarnated male (probably) from modern world, no magic or anything other than technology, probably no major religious beliefs in life-after-death or anything of the sort.

and then imagine that same teen suddenly waking up as a baby, where wanting to walk off by himself is perfectly fine and okay. where sometimes some new relative of his has the ability to make him drowsy, or can heal his scrapes with some strange glow, or the fact that his great uncle is somehow some a literate baby looking thing, but is also somehow older than his grandma.

and the kidnappings, probably, because hey, it’s eye of the storm fon’s baby relative that he’s obviously fond of, right? they could totally get something out of him!

(wrong and nobody ever tried again. probably partly because of what fon did in response, and partly because how was this actual toddler active.

if this happened in canon, i imagine kyōya’s mind would be still fuzzy enough to not have that awareness of the danger he’s in and the will to spark dying will flames. but this one??? with self preservation and the knowledge of dying once sends him straight to activation.)

maybe tsuna or takeshi or maybe even shōichi??? reminding oc!kyōya of somebody he used to know.

ummm when i wrote this i think i had a scene where fon found out (my reasoning was that he saw that kyōya looked like him, old in a too young body) and asked about it and i think it was meant to give oc a little more closure (though i also wrote that he had resolved himself to live as kyōya when he was four??? dunno how accurate that is.)

i,,, actually have a lot more snippets and semi-incorrect-quotes and headcanons than i thought. i guess i’ll include them here, they’re not as bad as i thought they were.

kyōya has all but adopted all the street cats. and birds. all of them. including a falcon he is particularly fond of. nobody knows how in the world he tamed that, but he did.

He jumps off, but Kyōya is— that reassurance means more to him than he would ever know. Because he knows he’s busy, with the Triads sending him on diplomatic missions because he’s unaffiliated with any particular branch, and that he’s completely fine with the workload, but sometimes just drops on his bed in Kyōya’s room that he had added a year ago. He knows, and to offer at least words and an open ear for his problems of annoying loud children and the fact that the adults just won’t learn, means the world to Kyōya.

(But if his great-uncle ever wants to break free and they won’t let him… He just has to say the word.

Stop!! Hibari Kun!! Is one of my absolute favorite anime series right now!

The series is from 1983. It's about this trans-girl named Hibari and her daily struggles as both a trans-girl in the 80s and her life as a member of a yakuza family!

Hibari is literally such an amazing character!! She's basically perfect in every way! But her transphobic family just can't accept her for who she is.. Hibari has also fallen in love with a new boy staying with them!(So if you see a boy in the first episode, just give it a bit for hibari to show up, lol!)

This series is a romantic comedy, and if you're looking for more late 1900s anime with queer protags (like I am), I highly recommend Stop! Hibari Kun!

But I must warn that it is not available on any modern streaming services.... if you want to watch it subbed, you have to find it on piracy websites... But that's okay for me lol I'm poor anyways so that's what I was gonna do!

It's not perfect because it was made in the 80s, but if you're able to tune out all the bad stuff, it's a good show, I promise!

Your last post left me wondering, because in all the SBS 70's I've seen this sentence appears:

"ODA:… I suppose she might be embarrassed in a different way, though. I don't really know how young women think".

But, in your publication, you put a totally different phrase, because, that phrase that you put is used a lot to refer to a woman when she is in love.

Do you know, or do you have an idea of which of the two phrases is the correct one. Because it is a big difference from "how young women think" to "well, I don't much understand the hearts of young women.

Hi! It's a matter of translation choices. "I don't understand the hearts of young women" is the literal and most immediate meaning: in Japanese it's 乙女心は僕にはわかんないけど, where 乙女 otome = "young woman, girl" and 心 kokoro = "heart".

From Google:

The Japanese phrase "乙女心" translates to "maiden's heart" or "girl's heart" in English. It refers to the emotions, thoughts, and feelings associated with young women or girls, often characterized by innocence, purity, and romantic ideals.

So, the best and most complete translation would be "I don't understand the feelings and emotions of young women", but you see how that gets really wordy. I think the word "heart" manages to encapsulate all that very well. Using the word "think", instead, is too reductive because it's not just about thinking, it's mostly about feeling.

As for how to interpret these feelings, it's up to the reader! I personally wouldn't talk about "being in love" because that's too strong an implication that I don't see in Oda's words. He doesn't use the word "love" in Hibari's SBS either, it's just too much lol. But I think we can absolutely talk about a crush or developing romantic feelings.

I haven’t been watching the anime in forever, but I’m guessing you’re referring to Hibari?

Think about it in DnD terms: a sharpshooter has the advantage of range combat & cover, the whole point is not getting close to the enemy, so their weaknesses will be strength & constitution. The idea is that you have to hit without getting hit. If they also had high physical strength and could tank a lot of damage, they would be broken asf.

I feel like this rule applies to One Piece too, at least to some extent. Think about Usopp and Van Augur, for example.

Coming back to Hibari and birdie specifically, I feel like it’s a bit unfair to compare the two: birdie has quite the seniority over Hibari, she’s (probably) older, has more developed Observation haki and… just more raw talent, to be honest. Birdie’s skills as a sniper were always an anomaly. She trained a lot, sure, and she’s still evolving, but it has always come natural for her. Hibari was literally her kohai.

Birdie still has average/low constitution and strength, but she has stamina and very short recovery time. From what I remember in the manga, Hibari had barely a couple of shots against extras and then rushed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m not saying that birdie could have done much more against someone on the level of Aokiji, but… she certainly would have handled herself better in the battle.

How is Naoya like meeting people, friends, and people they dislike?

For people in general:

- Depends on the ‘motive’.

- Usually in his ‘normal’ days, he is pretty hostile at first. Basically asocial. And he would give the ‘scary guy’ aura, especially from his eyes as that’s a feature in universe that unsettles a lot of people due to the orange at the center looking like an ‘animal’s eye’.

- He’s not full on indecent though. Naoya always tries his best to make amends if it’s a person he truly feels bad for hurting unnecessarily. (Whoops! Naoya would scold me for leaking that, ahahah!)

- But ya, if he has a motive, he can come across as either a total a-hole, or super indecent, at times, ehe. Hint: Remember some of my previous answers for him?

For people they are friends with:

- He’s really chill. A lot of the time initially quiet. But he starts talking more once he gets to know someone well. Or he senses the genuine friendliness in others.

- In his group he’s kinda the schemer, ‘leader’, one of the jokesters, and the one getting into fights. (And also the elder brother figure)

- Naoya likes to spar with his buds (and rivals ;p), he loves to swing his sword as much.

- Naoya does get angry if others step on his and his group’s bounds.

- Naoya will never admit, of course, but he would do a lot for his buddies.

For people they dislike:

- Ooohhh… Really HOPE you don’t get on his bad side. He can be HELL to deal with. Especially the initial Naoya.

- He likes to purposely step forward to those he dislikes. Always with a smile.

- Naoya… Can go feral in battles with those he has literal animosity with. Hint: You know if you know what I mean with the previous hints I left…

- Naoya’s eyes look scarier. They glow.
