The pre-Christian Norse spiritual worldview is animistic, which means that it's informed by direct experiences and observations of nature, interpreted through the lens of human experience and feelings. You know how we watch snow swirl around think that it looks playful, or watch a wildfire and think that it looks angry? It involves that kind of thing.
But when most people think of pre-Christian religions, they tend to imagine later forms of Greek and Roman polytheism. The problem here is that these Greeks and Romans had begun to think of divinity in more abstract, transcendent ways, and had begun to imagine the gods as rulers of things rather than the spirits of things.
Loki isn't the lord of mischief, he's the spirit of mischief. He's in the little voice telling you make that shitpost and to stop caring about being "cringe." He's in your cat's impulse to knock something off the counter to watch it bounce or roll. Loki manifests in every accidental innuendo and hilarious typo, in every spilled cup of coffee, and every paperwork mix-up. (This is why he's a shapeshifter! He can be anything!)
So when media depicts a Loki riddled with repression and shame - say, for example, a Loki who sneers at modern media or the culture of the common folk - it's depicting a Loki who can't really Loki. That poor spirit has been bound and gagged.
Certain popular media has depicted Thor and Loki as some kinds of opposites, but when we consider the animist perspective we can see there is a serious problem with this. Loki and Thor being depicted as companions isn't some random whim; it's a reflection of the reality that thunderstorms bring chaos.
A Loki informed by Norse mythology shouldn't be complaining about Thor's "oafishness" or whatever, he should be encouraging him to wreak even more havoc. Loki shouldn't be here out of some real or imagined obligation, he should be here because he expects he's going to have a pretty good time, and because he hopes to make the situation as ridiculous as possible.
Loki being the spirit of mischief is also why depicting him as hostile to humanity isn't really in the spirit of the pre-Christian Norse worldview. Mischief and chaos are not anti-human; they're just realities of the world that humans inhabit. I get how it's easy to infer that Loki must have something against humans due to his oppositional role toward the Aesir in the Ragnarok story, but that's an extremely Christian reading of the narrative. The story is simply describing the collapse of civilization and end of the world as we know it through Norse animistic comprehension. Loki only has an issue with the Aesir, who bound him in a cave to be tortured with serpent venom. Humanity is neither here nor there for him.

Good evening, Night Owls.
It’s quiet tonight. There are no news to report, no public service announcements to be made-- at last, not yet. The night is still young, after all.
For the time being, however, I have a question for those more technologically inclined who may be listening.
You see, for the past hour, the office printer has been adamantly refusing to cooperate, but I cannot quite put my finger on what the problem is...
What do you think? You can call in, or message us here, to let us know.

its a long story but we are convinced the gods made our lives increasingly difficult including adding rats to the mix but if that hadnt of happened we may not be where we needed to be. it seemed cruel at the time.
my partner said something about asking for a sign on the "lords day" and it was her deity's day. she, as she said this, opened a drawer to reveal a dead mouse curled up next to the silverwear. that same day, i believe, or the night before, the back door lock broke and she had to call a locksmith to get back into the house.
the next day was my birthday and also MY Lord's Day. we saw a friend from out of town perform, and events perspired that made us realize we wanted to and needed to leave.
months passed of bitter back and forth with our horrid landlord, the mice, and moving.
the last few weeks we lived there, I was gazing outside thru the kitchen window and saw a crow or raven (i know the difference and in my city they did live together and there was a bonafide raven living near our house but im unsure if it was Him or not) carrying a mouse in its claws and flying off my neighbors roof. i cheered for him for being natures cleanup crew but also had never seen such a thing ij irl and it seemed such a fluke. i felt moved by this.
the next day i saw a mouse dead on our back patio.
I wondered if the corvid had somehow dropped it despite flying elsewhere...and i knew it wasnt from us as we got rid of them.
i got closer
it wasnt real. it was a mouse toy, perhaps one a cat carried. but none of the local neighbors cats had toys like this (we asked), and it couldnt have been from the corvid.
it made us feel as if the gods were saying yes youre moving. the rodents are no longer a threat. we've taken care of it. just fake toys now.
so yes
i found god a few times in a hopeless place.
edit; there was ratshit a few days prior and weird noises. we think they came in during a particularly bad heat wave but we didnt realize it and suddenly there were many. one even bit her in bed. yes. really. it was bad. it smelled awful. we hated killing them. we werent reimbursed for our hotel stays. our landlord shamed us as if it was our fault. my ocd raged. i was terrified id get hanyavirus from their shits... i didnt even know my partner had been bit until months after we moved. they tried to destroy some of our clothes and books. im still traumatized tbh.

I found god in a hopeless place

Now, as we know, I absolutely adore Loki, like- he’s my lifeblood, (one) of the reasons I wake up and go on with my day (one of the top 20 reasons). I don’t really know why I like him so much, maybe because of like- his personality, or something, his looks definitely add to it, for sure, also his complexity, his charm, his depth, he’s not the “blonde beaut with muscles and super tanned skin- or however the stereotype goes. I don’t really know what my “type” is, since the characters and people I like vary and come from broad backgrounds. For example, I could say that I prefer complex, morally ambiguous characters, but then there are some characters who aren’t morally ambiguous, and simply are on the “good” side. Or they’re a “cinnamon roll”, or a “goody-two-shoes” type of character. I just like his commandeering, deep, charming, funny, smart, enigmatic character type. Also, I definitely have a thing for evil, or misunderstood characters.
don't tell me this isn't the most adorable, likable man you've ever seen
gifs/graphics are from animatedglittergraphics-n-more on tumblr and source▪️f2u (that's what the post said so idk)

Sighing and grumbling over the way Marvel Studios/Disney had a bunch of people convinced that a trickster is a guy who goes around stabbing people and smirking over it, rather than a guy who knows a bunch of cheap tricks and silly tactics because it's the only way to survive his own irrepressible compulsion to throw himself into Shenanigans and Hijinks.

Saying no is mischief.
Breaking people's expectations is mischief. Saying "what the fuck are you going to do about it?" Is mischief.
