there was such a moment in the 15m thing when key was asking taemin to "prepare" the veggies... and taemin got such a look of dread where hes like "what...... wdym.. ?" & kibum has to be like "CUT THEM taemin" lol 💀💀 its such a silly moment but its SOO quintessential to me for both what its like to be autistic (ie: what the fuck are u saying to me "prepare" this. as if im supposed to know what that means), and what its like to be close with an autistic person (kibum having to kinda remember to "translate" what hes saying for taemin so he knows what hes talking about, it reminds me of how my partner is with me sometimes 🥺)

also back to when im saying they probably dont know why he is the way he is, even if they know all his ins and outs, i think this is probably the same for taemin 🤔 he strikes me as someone who prob doesnt know hes autistic, just knows hes "weird" and "different" and has figured out how to live like that despite. reminds me of myself kind of, cos i wasnt "diagnosed" (used loosely) until maybe 19 ? which is still young but at that point i had already been thru school and everything not knowing x_x its definitely possible to figure your life out & how you work without a diagnosis, and i think it happens all the time, but its also really really hard. i think having a name for it and something u can actually research & learn about is rly helpful. so even tho hes like 30 now im still kinda always hoping he realises 🤔 if it makes his life that much easier ykno ?

again, not that i think he does now, but he's a lot more private about his personal life i think - not in a 'i'm ashamed or trying to keep it a secret way' but more in a 'i'm older now, and have different priorities' way. does that make sense?

he himself has talked about how he's chilled out a lot more, and isn't as bratty as he used to be lol.

i love that he had that though! he was so lucky to find his place, and meet friends like him that he can relate to, and have experiences that a lot of young queer idols weren't/aren't able to - this is why the lgbt+ community that people in the industry carve out for themselves is so important.

mmm, yes i agree that a lot of lgbt+ idols are sort of living in a 'glass closet' situation these days, but, kibum always has, so, it doesn't really make too much of a difference with him? unless we're talking about in terms of what that means for his creative control and his music - like taemin - and it being more personal, then yeah.

also, taemin is just taemin. that sounds like a kind of cop out answer, but it's true. he's always just, done what he does, and that's it, that's taemin, y'know? he's kind of an enigma honestly, and i love that about him.

HARD - Okay 12 hours later, I’ve grown to enjoy it. HARD is to me what Shalala is to Coco (I still can’t get there lol but I do find myself saying ‘Let’s go~~’ often lol). I love the piano, love the instrumental, love Onew and Kibum’s vocals. Honestly, I like the song… the lyrics are just corny and annoying haha. If I ignore them I like it 😂 I get that Taemin wants to show off his rapping chops lol, but I’m happy to just take his word for it 🤪

JUICE - I LOVE the bridge - it pushed it above HARD for me at first. I honestly like the rapping in this song - which is not something I often seek out in SHINee songs. I know I said I didn’t need Taemin rapping but I like it here haha he’s got a nice twangy voice for it. Some nice vocal choices here in general.

10X - This falls into the overly familiar SHINee song category for me - there is something about this song that is just a bit… 90s boy band in the chorus? To me. If I wasn’t refusing to ever engage with the Backstreet Boys again I would dig through their discography to find a comparison lol. I like the vocal flourishes here and there. It has interesting and diverse sections. Onew sounds so good.

Satellite - A SONG ABOUT A SATELLITE? I wanted to love it, but I don’t really rank this is as one of the stronger ones on the album. It feels very classic SHINee b-side sound - a song that is just filling out the album with their impressive vocal skill and sound, like something like Hold You or Lipstick. A technically good song I will forget once it ends lol. The chanty bit does remind me of NCT which is cute - it’s interesting how different that sounds with 4 voices as opposed to like 9.

Identity - AMAZING INCREDIBLE FLAWLESS PERFECT. Taeminnie my love step aside and let Kibum pick the titles from now on and forever. This is just so good. Very SHINee, love the ascending vocals leading into the chorus. Such a cute song, such a JOURNEY - I love it.

The Feeling - When this was released as the pre-single release, I was like ok cute? In the context of the album, I think it’s delightful - it’s really nicely slotted between Identity - a song about pride and a strong sense of self - and Like It, which is less heavy, more cute. It does well. So naturally they’ll put it somewhere else in the repack lol. I do think it’s kinda ~generic~ though lol

Like It - Love this - so freaking cute. The live performance is adorable. Such a fun fresh little number. Very classic fun SHINee.

Sweet Misery - I love this song - I’m not sure why it didn’t hit as hard the first time I heard it. I think I thought the evocation of the title was a little too cloying. But it’s so beautiful! Lovely vocals. It feels very driving down the highway with the windows down on a summer day, but I guess sad about it? Lol

Insomnia - Very beautiful, romantic, atmospheric. I love it so much. The layered vocals are wild. Also perfect to me. Kibum’s got these midnight—MIDNIGHT—FEEEELINGS - I’m ascending. Also return of Taemin rapper lol. He sounds good. Minho’s vocals are lovely.

i fucking love shinee so much that i legitimately cringe thinking about how much i like them LOL. they're such an integral part of my life. i've said this before, but they sort of... helped shape me into the person i am today. kibum taught me to be comfortable in my skin. jjong taught me that what i feel and who i am isn't something wrong. both jinki and minho are so impossibly kind and make me want to be the best person that i could be. Hey! I'm the 2nd gen anon that sent you the ask the other day. I agree with what you said especially the thing about social media.

For the past few years, I've been wondering why I fell out of Kpop because at that time, Kpop was gaining more attraction. I think the first reason would be that many older groups were disbanding. Then, it would be the presence of social media (toxic fans are the loudest). Other than that, I couldn't get myself into the newer songs. I remember thinking that the reason for this was due to newer songs being too westernized. However, foreign producers have been making songs for Kpop artists for a while. Over time, I noticed that a lot of the newer songs (even non-Kpop songs) don't have full choruses. The songs are mostly focused on the beat and the title of the song is repeated in the chorus. I don't hate this type of music but I tend to get sick of it quickly. A lot of 3rd and 4th gen groups are coming out with this kind of music now which makes sense into why I couldn't get myself into them. Even when my favs, which are 2nd gen and early 3rd gen (I actually regard them as 2.5 gen because they had similar styles to 2nd gen) come out with songs that don't have full choruses, I rarely listen to it.

I know in my previous ask, I did say I stopped being a Kpop fan at one point but I did still listened to my favourite Kpop songs as well as trending songs. I don't think I can ever stop listening to Kpop or music in general. I guess you can say I just became a casual listener. I'll check kpop news from time to time but that's it. I couldn't keep up with the fandom.

I don't know if you ever felt this way before but I feel bad for not putting in time for my favs or ults(?). What I'm talking about is things like streaming and voting. Luckily, my favs don't really care because they've been in the industry for a while but I still feel guilty because streaming and voting is a form of supporting the artists you love.

Sorry for the long ask. It's just hard to find 2nd gen fans on Tumblr. Also, thanks for bringing awareness about mental health. Like you said, it's sad that such tragic events have to happen in order for us to bring light to an important topic. With this, I hope people will care for the mental health of others and themselves.

I definitely agree with a lot of what you said. And thank you for dropping in again! I personally don't like songs where the structure is "skimped on", e.g. not having a full chorus, or several lines of lyrics being just the same word or phrase repeated over and over. Although that said, "Sorry Sorry" and "Ring Ding Dong" are what got me into kpop and are the most iconic songs ever and you can't tell me otherwise lol.

For me personally, rediscovering Super Junior and SHINee after 7+ years of not keeping up and being a casual listener was like a shock to the system. With Super Junior it was like, hold up, you mean Kibum, Hangeng, Kangin AND Sungmin are not in SJ anymore?? And with SHINee it was like... how can we go on without Jjong?? And hold on, Taemin is now the biggest solo artist of all of them?? TVXQ was now only Yunho and Changmin and the rest had left?? It was so much to take in.

When I was coming back into kpop circa late 2017, besides BTS I wasn't that thrilled with what I arrived to as a 2nd gen fan to be honest. Monsta X and KARD were a breath of fresh air, as a proper very EDM focused and a mixed gender group, respectively. Musically though, aside from BTS it was VIXX I loved the most and they sit awkwardly in the time line, somewhere between 2nd gen and 3rd gen. They're usually considered 2.5 gen.

It was sad learning about everyone I knew from 2nd gen that was disbanding or not active (f(x), 2NE1, SHINee were just recovering from Jonghyun's passing at the time). But at the same time I was thrilled that so many were still going strong. I felt i could relate to them because I was getting into that later-twenties stage where I was worrying about getting older, but I was comforted knowing my 2nd gen idols were growing older with me, they were already a few years ahead of me and still rocking it.

You see, with feeling guilty about not streaming and voting, I didn't really experience that. When I was an early kpop fan it wasn't even possible to vote outside of Korea so I never felt like I had missed out on these opportunities or let my idols down. When i got into kpop again I did take advantage of the fact that I could stream, vote for MAMA and vote on some music shows. I never felt guilty though because I knew that the majority of these voting drives were for the younger fans, who didn't have full time jobs, families or that many responsibilities. So I always felt I was doing my best as a fan in moderation, without sacrificing all my time, money and sanity.

With 4th gen, I don't even bother with voting. Some people might say that makes me a shitty or lazy fan, but my ults are 2nd and 3rd gen, and I'm only one person. I know 3rd and 4th gen have loads and loads of young fans who do the streaming and voting better than I ever could. I just stream on comeback day and enjoy the music, and buy the occasional album. When I was a young fan I had no money at all, I couldn't buy any albums or go to any concerts. So I don't feel guilty because I can do more now as an older fan than I ever could before to support my idols. I save my voting rights for my 2nd gen faves who aren't as popular anymore, because I know it would mean much more to them to still win awards this late into their careers :)

(1) WOW! 4 months has passed since you answered my last ask hahaha… so fast… I understand, sometimes when I spend too much time on something, be it working or studying or even recreational stuff I feel burnt out to :D Like I spent 5 straight days last week playing Stardew Valley, now I haven’t touched the Switch lol anyways, I am still enjoying the updates on Dorm Life! It’s slowly progressing but I think it’s good for both of them so far? Taking it one step at a time :3

(2) It’s like they are back at it again with their bantering and anime/fanfic conversations :’) the comfortableness is there but also at the same time it feels unsettling? maybe because we are seeing it from Taem’s POV and he is kinda fidgety (for a lack of better word) or tense about the situation? Hmmm but yeah the ending at the latest chapter though!! Whoooo could have been calling Jong at that time? And the off-character part where he turned off his phone, refusing to take the calls :O

(3) Obviously like Taem we would probably just wonder if it’s Key right, but idk why some instinct telling me it’s not Key like it’s a new part of the story? A new subplot? Lol or maybe it is Key and we are closing that chapter? Uhuhuh I’m just going to theorize in the corner here as I wait for the next update :3 Ah! Yeah, and you said there won’t be any crying moments anymore, so will there be more cheesy things like the end of the latest chapter? Cringe inducing lines and “aww” moments? ;)

(4) Yeah, ofc ofc since to Taem, Key is his “antagonist”, we were bound to kind of see it the same way… in the latest update too, there were a lot of thoughts inside Taem’s head regarding his observations on Key right… like I think there was a part where he thought that Key was looking down on him, or even he thought that Key and Jong should be having stricter? (Idk if that’s the right word) boundaries on things that they should and shouldn’t talk about lol

(5) To be honest, it’s kind of entertaining to see Taem’s train of thoughts on these things like, that almost instantaneous thought in someone’s head that they don’t really share to others. It can be a little bit biased, it can be overdramatic, but ofc I also I understand Taem’s hatred? Or more like insecurity maybe? When it comes to Key (and Jong). It’s the kind of things people think about but not really say out loud hahaha I love it, it makes the characters more whole?

(6) Oh yeahh? I shall be sneaking my way into AO3 to see your replies :3 For a while I kind of realized that you uploaded every 3 weeks? On my Sunday nights, so I timed it perfectly lol recently I’ve been busy too so this one took a while hehehe :D Since my last ask I think you updated twice with chapter 10 and 11! Maybe I wasn’t paying attention as much but there weren’t many biblical allusions in the past 2 chapters? Maybe it was intentional or maybe not, either way I didn’t notice many of them I think? haha

Wow indeed! It certainly has been a while. How have you been? I have never heard of Stardew Valley before, but I’m glad you’ve enjoyed playing it. But I know that feeling, sometimes I play games for weeks and then I won’t touch them for a year. Humans are weird like that I guess. ^^

I’m glad you’re still enjoying my slow updates. I mean we are about to cross the finishing line. There are only two chapters left to complete the storyline + the epilogue. So yeah. Considering that I already wanted to be done with the story by March – and now we’re nearing July already. Haha – but at least I’m working on it to push this story over the finishing line.

It’s not really a subplot – more like the underlying theme of the story which has been there since chapter 1. If the story was written from Jonghyun POVs it would have been a main theme, but since we’re seeing everything from Taem’s perspective, we just know what Jonghyun shares with him – which is not a lot. :’)

Yes, there won’t be any more tears. There will be a few cheesy moments, but less so compared to chapter 11. :’D Chapter 12 is like the last peak before – hopefully – all ties come together in chapter 13 *knocks on wood*

Oh, Taemin will have a lot more thoughts on Kibum in chapter 12. Lmao The whole situation between Kibum and Taemin is loosely based on something from my own experiences. However, without going too much into detail – let’s keep it simple and say I was the Jonghyun in that scenario. Lmao

Yeah, I think there are plenty of moments in this story in which Taemin thinks a LOT of things but says something very different out loud. I think that’s only human. It’s just better to not share all thoughts one has. :’)

It’s certainly intentional that there are less biblical references after they’ve actually been to church. There are still some left to come, but far less than in previous chapters. THANK YOU! Finally someone who understand my craving for SHINee x AoT fanfic. I really, really want to write one because for some reason I want to write something more action driven with blood, and gore and violence lmao and of course titans. I mean romance is cute – but romance is even cuter if you put it into a dystopian setting where people are fighting for the survival of human kind. A SHINee survey squad would be so cute T_T <3 I don’t really know why no one picked up on yet after all those years – we have so many crossovers in this fandom – and yet a crossover with one of the biggest fandoms out there is just nonexistent. It makes no sense to me. I also always wanted to write a Harry Potter crossover but there are so many out there already – so AoT really lets my weeb juices tingle. Lmao

I remember really liking bmot’s JongTae pacific rim AU…although I still have no idea about pacific rim to this day. :’D I always wanted to look it up because I like the description in their story – it seemed an interesting concept but somehow I’ve never went further than thinking about it.

Just a quick note (tw dec 18): I’m still very uncomfortable writing about Jonghyun. I only recently was able to start listening to older SHINee songs again without just outright crying lol, and I can only listen to a few of his solo songs at a time. I am in no way an ot4 fan, I love all five of the boys very much, but I just can’t bring myself to write about him anymore. I just want everyone to understand that’s why he won’t be explicitly mentioned in this au or any others from the last couple years.

Upside Down: The First Practice

After running into Jongin in the hall, Taemin was feeling a bit more sure of himself. He was still nervous, still afraid what everyone’s reactions might be to him, but seeing Jongin helped him realize that his friends weren’t going to just outright hate him. But still, he asked Sooman to come with him. To be there with him. He was nervous and afraid and he needed Sooman there with him to keep him safe, just in case.

They were early - a whole ten minutes early- so he wasn’t expecting anyone else to be inside yet. The members were never on time to practice, let alone early. And the waiting was going to drive Taemin insane.

Sooman pushes the door open, and Taemin asks, “But what if they don’t want me in SHINee anymore?” with a catch in his voice.

“It isn’t SHINee without all of you,” Sooman tells him, a gentle hand holding onto Taemin’s shoulder.

“But-”

“Taemin!”

The wind is knocked out of him, and for a moment he’s frozen and terrified of the contact, but then he realizes he’s being hugged and it’s tight and it’s comforting and Taemin closes his eyes and hides his face in a soft t-shirt, whispering, “Kibum.”

“You’re okay?” Kibum asks, moving back and holding Taemin’s cheeks in his hands. “You’ve been gone so long, I missed you so much, are you alright? You’re sure it’s alright for you to practice so soon?”

Taemin’s chest deflates as a breath leaves him, and Kibum’s hands slack a bit from Taemin’s face.

“Do you not want me here?” he breathes out.

“What?” Kibum gasps, and his hands hold on to Taemin’s cheeks again. “Of course I want you here, we all want you here! We missed you more than anything, but you’re sure you’re okay?”

“I’m okay,” Taemin says. “I want to practice.”

Sooman urges them further inside, and Taemin is led to a couch on the their side of the room. The their members were close by, not wanting to crowd Taemin too much, but wanting to be near him.

Taemin particularly latches onto Jinki. He hugs him tight on the couch, pretty much falling into his lap, not letting go for a long time. Minho is nearby, tucking locks of hair behind Taemin’s ears, talking about all the video games he bought for them to play together as soon as Taemin can come back to the dorms.

“I saved all the best ones to wait until you were back, I want us to play together like we always do,” Minho tells him.

“Yeah, he’s got a million damn games, it’s hogging all the room in the living room!” Kibum complain.

“It is not!”

“Is too!”

“It’s for Taemin! It’s presents!”

“Presents-shmesents, you just wanted to play them, so you bought every game available.”

Their bickering is comforting and so, so normal, and it makes Taemin let out a breathy laugh into Jinki’s neck.

“Terrible, aren’t they?” Jinki teases in Taemin’s ear.

“Yeah,” Taemin agrees, his fingers tightening and twisting into the fabric of Jinki’s sweatshirt. “Missed it.”

Jinki rests his cheek on top of Taemin’s head, tightening his arms around him. Taemin likes it, the weight from Jinki holding him close, the way he can feel the air shift when Kibum waves an arm above him as he bickers with Minho, the way Minho scoffs in that specific way that he always does when Kibum makes a point he can’t really argue with, the low rumble against his ear from Jinki laughing at the two of them.

“Jinki was gonna adopt you,” Kibum tells him, and Taemin’s head snaps up and he laughs.

“What?” he asks. “But you’re only - you’re not even twenty-one yet.”

Jinki just scoffs, “I mean, I am legally an adult. I could have adopted you. And I was going to, for real. I’m the oldest, I’m the leader, it’s my job to take care of all you children.”

“He was gonna buy a house,” Minho adds, snickering with Kibum. “All so you could come back home.”

Taemin snaps his head back to Jinki, his chin digging into Jinki’s chest, and he stares at him hard, his lips pulling into a pout.

“Why?”

They’re all quiet for a long time. And Taemin starts fearing the worst, that it was only so SHINee could continue promoting or some other similar reason.

“Why wouldn’t I?” Jinki asks.

That doesn’t make Taemin feel much better, but before he can hide his face back in Jinki’s sweatshirt, a hand comes up to move Taemin’s hair from his eyes.

“You’re practically my little brother. You’re my family - our family - and I would do anything to keep all of you safe. All of us were trying to figure out what we could to do keep you safe. That just seemed like the most sure-fire option.”

Taemin still has to hide his face in Jinki’s sweatshirt, trying to hide the tears that burned his eyes.

“And I would have gone through with it,” Jinki tells him, rubbing circles on Taemin’s back. “But someone sort of beat me to it.”

Taemin lets out a watery laugh, and he pokes on eye out to see if Sooman is still there. And he is, sitting a few feet away with a couple managers. When he notices Taemin watching him, he smiles and nods his head, and Taemin buries his face back in Jinki’s chest, his hand moving to play with the drawstrings of Jinki’s hood.

Taemin suddenly feels drained. He’s tired and exhausted and the world feels like it’s spinning a little bit.

“Can we just stay here a little bit?” he asks. “Just a few minutes?”

“We can stay here as long as you want,” Jinki tells him. “You tell us when you’re ready to do something else. Anything at all.”

Taemin crumbles against Jinki, but it’s okay. Jinki keeps him solid, all the while Kibum and Minho tell him a million stories about things he missed while he was away. It’s full of giggles and exaggerations and the two of them constantly talking over each other. Taemin loves it. He missed it so much, the particular brand of bickering that accompanied SHINee wherever they went. It feels like home.

They practice eventually, going over dance steps, trying to out-sing each other, goofing around together. By the time they need to leave the practice room, Taemin isn’t ready to leave. He’s not ready to part with the members. He’s not ready to say goodbye, even if it’s only temporary.

“Can I stay with them just a little longer?” Taemin asks Sooman. “Please?”

“You can stay as long as you want,” Sooman says. “You could even spend the night at the dorm if you want.”

And Taemin does want to. He missed them so much, he missed the dorm so much, he can’t believe he used to complain about it.

But he’s still terrified to be away from Sooman, terrified he won’t come back, that someone will come and take Taemin away.

“It’s only if you want. You don’t have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable.”

Taemin thinks about it a while longer before saying in shaking words, “I want - I want to stay at the dorm tonight. If that’s okay.”

“The cleaning lady changed all the bedding just yesterday,” Kibum tells him. “So it’s all fresh. Your bed made was made too, of course.”

“Is it the-”

“The puppy comforter,” Kibum says, a little smirk on his face. “Your favorite one.”

Taemin’s cheeks turn pink, because it’s dogs not puppies that adorn his favorite dorm comforter, but he doesn’t argue.

He never thought he’d miss a crowded room with five beds squished into it so much, never thought he’d miss the bottom bunk next to Jinki’s single bed, but he feels right at home as he sinks into the mattress, pulling the comforter to his nose to smell the fabric softener.

He even missed the way the others all snored or talked in their sleep. It’s like a strange sort of lullaby, and Taemin falls asleep faster than he has in almost a year.

Jinki

Like an angel, when Jinki asked what you wanted for your birthday, you responded that you had everything you needed to be happy. Jinki smiled at your answer, but he was determined to do something special for you. 

When he consulted the internet and then his friends, the general consensus was that handmade gifts were the best way to move your heart. 

Perhaps Jinki should have accepted Taemin’s suggestion less eagerly. 

“Have you heard about those painting classes where you drink wine and follow what the instructor does?” Taemin asked excitedly. 

Jinki hadn’t heard about that, and he couldn’t understand why Taemin had, but he figured that you would be happy to receive something that he painted himself. 

He wasn’t too embarrassed about being one of the only two men in a studio full of middle-aged women. However, a humiliated blush did stain his entire face about half an hour into the class when Taemin slid off his chair and onto the floor. 

Maybe the older women were too engrossed in their own conversations or maybe they were too polite to gawk at Taemin. Nonetheless, Jinki failed to suppress his laughter as he watched Taemin rise to his feet unsteadily. 

“Are you okay?” 

All Taemin said in response was, “The wine is good.” Then, as he studied Jinki’s canvas, Taemin complimented, “Hey, that looks really good! Better than mine, at least—” Taemin gestured to his own work: a single sloppy red line. 

“Just sit down,” Jinki said gently, noticing that the instructor was eyeing Taemin instead of continuing with the class. 

To take the edge off of his mounting embarrassment, Jinki took a sip of his wine. Instantly, he spat it out, just narrowly missing his canvas. Glancing at Taemin judgmentally, Jinki hissed, “You think this is good? It’s horrible!”

Taemin scratched at the back of his neck as he reddened. “Oh— yeah, well, I thought your cup of wine was my bucket of water so I cleaned my brush in it.”

Jinki turned to fully face Taemin. He kept his voice an even whisper to avoid distracting everyone else. “And you didn’t bother to tell me?”

“At the moment, it didn’t seem that important,” Taemin shrugged. Then, recognizing Jinki’s rare glare, Taemin stuttered an excuse. “Plus, you looked really focused, and I didn’t want to bother you.”

As he blinked at Taemin, Jinki wondered if this was karma for ruining Minho’s anniversary. The karma wasn’t fully realized, however, until a week later when you opened your birthday present. 

“Oh,” you said as you looked at a single red line— if it could really be called a line— on a canvas. Despite your confusion at the gift and Jinki’s bewildered expression, you smiled and began, “Thank—”

“That’s not the right thing,” Jinki blurted before seizing the canvas and scowling at it. “That’s Taemin’s. When I took him home after that class, I must have gotten our paintings mixed up—”

Because you had never seen Jinki so panicked, your mind raced to consider ways to make him feel better, and you ignored the urge to ask for more details about the painting class wherein Taemin— perfect Taemin— managed to produce such an odd piece of art. 

You decided to interrupt Jinki’s rambling. “Wait, so Taemin did this? You know— there are tons of people would pay thousands, maybe even millions of dollars to own this. Why don’t we sell it and go on vacation?”

And when Jinki laughed at your suggestion, you realized that was the best present you could have received.

Jonghyun

Jonghyun might have gone overboard with his gifts for your birthday. After the showered you with countless flowers-- enough to make large bouquets for every room in the house-- he urged you to change out of your pajamas. 

"Hurry, Y/N," he rushed you to finish eating the last pancake he made for you. "We gotta go to the studio!"

Jonghyun raced to the studio almost every day; that was a fact of life you had long accepted, so you hadn't expected your birthday to be an exception. 

Still groggy and intent upon rolling over under the covers after breakfast, you grumbled through your mouthful of food, "Why do I have to go?"

Initially, Jonghyun whined at your reluctance to follow his meticulous plan to demonstrate his love for you. But when he turned away from your closet, holding your potential outfit, Jonghyun smiled at your childlike appearance. 

As he laid your clothes out on the bed in front of you, he softly explained, "Because I'm recording something for you today. It would be really special for you to be there." 

You didn't require much convincing when Jonghyun smiled at you like that. Once your drowsiness wore off, you were all too happy to follow Jonghyun’s plans for the day. 

Key

You tried to brush it off when Kibum responded, "Oh, is that today?" when you texted him about your plans to celebrate your birthday by having lunch with your friends at some nearby restaurant.

You knew Key well enough to understand that he probably didn't mean to sound so uninterested. And although you understood that you hadn't been dating long-- only a few months-- and that you only briefly mentioned your upcoming birthday last week, you were disappointed that he didn't remember.

Still, you made the effort to cast those negative feelings aside as you accepted his invitation to have dinner at his place.  You agreed to meet him at your favorite place: the rooftop of his apartment building, where you often spent hours watching the stars while talking about anything and everything.

It was surprising to find Jinki, Minho, and Taemin up there, too, wearing aprons-- Jonghyun humming into a microphone-- and Key sitting at a table set for two, scrolling through his phone.

Before they noticed you, you heard Minho brag, "I know how we can make things more entertaining while we wait," as he balanced a food tray on his head. "We should race to see who gets to the table first with the food on their head."

While Jinki laughed and attempted to balance his tray, Taemin timidly glanced at Kibum. He whispered as if trying to avoid attracting his attention, "But Key told us not to play around--"

Taemin was interrupted by Jonghyun's excited cheer. "Yah!" he pointed at you, announcing, "Y/N's here!"

Somewhat embarrassed by the attention, you avoided the guys' stares as you set toward Kibum. Unable to conceal your smile, you asked, "What is this? I thought you forgot about my birthday--"

"You really believed I forgot?" Key laughed. Then, with a soft smile he explained, "I only said that so you wouldn't catch on to this surprise."

Minho

When Jinki offered to help Minho with your birthday gift, Minho was reluctant to accept.

"You already stole my reservations," Minho reminded somewhat playfully. "Now are you trying to steal Y/N?"

"What? No!" Jinki blushed at the accusation; it was likely this reaction that encouraged Minho to continue teasing him. Nonetheless, Jinki stuttered, "No, I just-- recently, Taemin ruined my girlfriend's birthday present. He didn't mean to, so I can't be mad, but made me realize how bad you must have felt when I ruined your anniversary."

Unsure of how to react to such an authentic apology, Minho hummed, "Oh," and he didn't think to ask what happened with Taemin.

"So I made reservations at that restaurant," Jinki said. "Just give them my name, and you should get in without a problem."

And you thought it was odd that after Minho proudly escorted you to that familiar fancy restaurant, he gave the name "Jinki" to the hostess. You reasoned that it was likely related to the Anniversary fiasco.

Because you were happy to see Minho smile at the chaotic memory for the first time, you decided not to ask about it. Instead, you said, "Thank you for bringing me here."

You mirrored Minho's smile when he said, "Happy Birthday, Y/N. I'm glad I get to have this memory with you after all."

Taemin

Taemin wanted to make your first birthday in your shared apartment to be special. In the early morning, while you were still asleep, he set his plan into motion.

Careful not to wake you, Taemin tiptoed to his closet where he pulled photographs off of the top shelf and delicately eased out already inflated balloons.

He sat on the floor at the foot of the bed to work on attaching the pictures to the balloons' strings. At the start of the task, the moon was hung high, but by the time he finally finished, the sun was rising; this was partially because of how many pictures he'd printed, but mostly because he kept getting distracted.

Here was the picture you'd taken the day you met after Minho brought you to practice because you were desperate to watch your brother at work. The memory was years old, and much had changed since then, but just recalling it-- how politely you'd watched everyone perform, how you'd erupted in applause at the end, how you smiled as you asked for a picture with everybody-- made Taemin's heart race just as it had that day.

There was the picture you took that time you hid from everyone else backstage because neither of you wanted an audience for your first kiss, but neither of you could wait for another opportunity. You hadn't captured the kiss on film, but you did snap a remarkable shot of Jonghyun's slackjawed expression upon finding you in Taemin's dressing room. Although Taemin could do nothing but blush around Jonghyun at the time, now he could barely contain his laughter as he remembered that moment.

And here, still in his hands, was the most recent picture. It was taken on your trip to Disneyland with Minho and his girlfriend, sometime after your relationship had been discovered, and sometime after Minho had given his official blessing. Taemin couldn't stop staring at it because it marked the first time he felt like a part of your family.

When you woke up, Taemin was sure to photograph your reaction to his surprise so he could remember the way you smiled at him forever.

Hi! I heard you're an opera singer from a post on Onew's singing, and was wondering if you could do an analysis on shinee's vocals? Only if you want to, of course!

Thanks for the message!  I’m not a professional vocal coach by any means but I can give a little bit of insight, I think! I’ll try and make this short and to the point because I could talk about their vocals for days lol

Onew - Very full and well-supported chest voice. Head voice is clear and he uses it to his advantage. Versatile, can change his vocal color to suit different styles. Will sometimes sing outside of his range which causes him to push too hard, and he lacks agility.

Jonghyun - Chest voice is well-supported but slightly less than Onew’s. Has the best head voice out of any male Kpop idol I’ve ever heard. Incredibly versatile, he easily changes style according to song type and to convey his emotions. Can become a bit nasal in his higher register.

Key - None of his registers are extremely supported, but he rarely ever has pitch issues even when he’s fatigued. His chest voice is clear but his falsetto is pretty breathy. Consistent in style and color, which is honestly fine in my opinion because I really love his vocal color as it is! His voice does its job and suits his and SHINee’s songs.

Minho - Because he’s a baritone and Onjongtae are tenors, SHINee’s songs tend be outside of his range which prevents him from singing where his voice would be strongest. When he does try and sing outside of his range he will strain and become nasal, but  I’m Home is a perfect of example of how wonderful he sounds when he sings where his voice naturally lies. This is a personal opinion but I personally really love how soft and light his singing is, it’s very pleasing to listen to.

Taemin - Has the best mixed voice out of all the members, a well-supported chest voice, and a clear head voice. The biggest improvement from debut to today out of any Kpop idol I know of. Lacks agility and versatility, but like I said with Kibum, it suits his music well so it’s not really a hindrance.

It’s worth noting that SHINee are the strongest vocalists in Kpop on average. As in, there’s individual singers who are stronger than SHINee, but their group mates make the average of the group drop. SHINee are all well-rounded so there isn’t anyone who drags the rest of the group down. 

I hope no one gets offended because I really love all their voices so much, even though I know there’s room for improvement. And again, it’s not necessary for them to be perfect as long as they suit their music, which they all do. Kpop performances involve many aspects, not just singing ability, so listen to whatever groups you like whether they’re the strongest vocalists or not.!

yo forreal, i'd say, up until 2015?? he had his fun and wild 20's, which??? yes, love that for him!

i think it was intentional in the way, that, a lot of the projects he does are intentional you know? either just because he wants to do them because they're fun, or to try something new, or just because he wants to convey a certain image of himself. at this time, i think he was very much in his, 'fuck it, imma do what i want' phase. i don't think it was anything more? like, was he trying to say something by doing those particular roles? hmm, nah, i really just think he liked doing what people didn't nessecarily expect him to. not because he'd been too out there, and had to reel it back in a bit.

like, key was saying for aaaages before, that he wanted to do wgm. when taemin got picked first, he was pretty disappointed lol. I think he wanted to do it, because, it's fun, but also, he loves to meet and get close to new people. also, it showed a new, more intimate side of key. we all know how soft and loving he is, but he didn't get the opportunity to show that in shows that often. also, wgm is a little scandalous, which, i'm sure was a factor in why he wanted to do it.

same with bonnie & clyde. it was a musical, which he loves doing, but, like? a bit of a sexy and violent one. something a bit more edgy than his previous musical roles. it showed off his range, and stirred up a buzz. and, as a bonus, he got to do it with a good friend, kahi, so a win all round.

so, whilst key did the absolute most in the 2010's, i don't think he was trying to counteract it with these sorta-but-not-really het roles and projects. or, maybe that was part of the reason. perhaps they were suggested by his team, but, he didn't mind it anyway.

like, key's never bothered with trying to appear heterosexual lol. not then, and not now. he's well aware of what fans think, and the rumours surrounding him, and yet, he's still very much himself. he's careful sure - but he also knows how to be very loud.

I asked before if there is even a slight chance of any 11 anniv. goods being available and some straws (*cought* Kibum and Taemin) should have been. However, everything was sold out and not just this! Taemin’s passport case? SHINee fan? Eco bag? Pins in many version? No. They just restocked shirts. I was thinking about the Taemin pouch but 29,000 won? For a simple pouch? Hmm.

I also visited the SM Cafe near Cheongdam station - staff wasn’t kind at all and the fact that I tried my best and overcame the anxiety of speaking in Korean made me even more dissatisfied. Screw you.

Anyway, I took some lovely photos for those, who can’t go there, to see a bit of how it looks like:

I swear SM supports Onkey so much. I was melting. Signs? One side Kibum, other Jinki. Merch availability? Onkey mostly, lol.

I found out I have the same size and shape as Yixing has? Idk what to do with that info lol.

And my final goods. I wanted the bookmark for ages but it was for 10 bucks on eBay while the original price is 5,000 won aka hell no. The Everybody pin was surprisingly the only one solo available and it was Kibum: a win for me.

The photos are the best thing I have spent 10,000 won on. It’s the seaweed/blue sweater one and his special photo for Smiling SM Artists event.

Don’t question me about the keychain and pouch cause those were sudden purchases. Just look at the damn face.

PS: I forgot to talk about Baekhyun’s retired fansite I met. She was very lovely. (we started talking because she saw my second ‘hand match’ was Baek, lol)

PPS: They played Kibum’s album A LOT. When I was walking out and exited the building? Wanna Be ended. It felt magical lol.

Kiss Drabbles : Jongyu

Alright, so there was this like prompt post thing about kisses and I started these back in January, like.. one a day or something and while I failed at that, these are the Jongyu ones I have done. There will be an Onkey, Ontae and Onho post once I’m done with those lol Each is separate au but will have ratings and w/c and warnings. 

Overall: 2.6k, rating from like pg to pg13 post coitus/makeout session.  There are six in total.

Hot, Steamy Kiss (pg-13, w/c 365 idk warning alcohal)

Jonghyun had to admit that making out with an almost stranger in a classmates’ pantry felt very 7th grade playing seven minutes in heaven. The way the other boy was kissing him was a lot MORE than the nervous teeth clacking he remembered 7th-grade kissing experience consisted of. Besides, with the warm tingly sensation of the few rum and cokes he had in his system and how cute his making out partner was, he couldn’t find a real reason to complain. The boy’s name was on the tip of his tongue. Coincidently so was the boy’s tongue as he pressed forward.

Kibum’s parents had gone to France or maybe Italy. Jonghyun couldn’t recall with how his ass was being palmed firmly. Something uncomfortable was poking into his back, but then the boy grunted roughly when his hair was pulled and the object was forgotten for the time being. The boy pulled away, just long enough to pull Jonghyun’s bottom lip between his teeth, before he was lifting Jonghyun up against the pantry’s build in shelves. There was the taste of beer on his lips that he hadn’t drunk himself.

Jinki! That was his name. The boy from that Women’s History class he took last semester to fulfill his upper history requirement for graduation. He wrapped his legs loosely around Jinki’s hips, pushing his fingers into his long hair that was falling slowly from the messy bun he had in it. As he tightened his fingers very roughly, Jinki growled and it made his toes curl in his boots. How much time had even passed n- Oh sweet baby Jesus that had to be illegal.

Then he felt the rush of air, heard the full volume of the party as the door was pulled open, but their kissing didn’t stop. His tongue was halfway in Jinki’s mouth probably when Kibum finally whistled loudly and they both rushed apart, flushed.

It was sometime later that Jinki pressed a napkin into his palm with a charming smile. “If you want more than just seven minutes in heaven, beautiful.”

He was gone by the time Jonghyun looked down to figure out it was his phone number.

Underwater Kiss ( Pg, w/c 484, happens before both parts of Atlantis Au, a  month before Jonghyun meets Taemin)

Jinki’s hands were warm pressed against him as he held him tightly. The bracelet on the Atlantian’s wrist blocked out the coolness of the deeper water of the lagoon and allowed them to not worry about needing air to breathe. Jinki grinned brightly, the warm sunlight filtering through the blue water reaching them dimly. He looked up for a moment and Jonghyun pressed his face into his neck as he swam toward the surface, one arm held tightly around Jonghyun’s waist. As they broke the surface Jonghyun pushed bits of Jinki’s hair from his face, smiling fondly as Jinki’s face scrunched rather cutely with the brightness of the sun fully hitting him now. “The warmth of that great ball of fire doesn’t negate the unnecessity of the brightness.”

“Are you being a grumpy old man again?”

The frown on Jinki’s face deepened. “I apologize for not being from this century.”

“You kiss well for someone that’s over a thousand years old.”

“Oh, is that so?”

Jonghyun giggled as Jinki dipped to kiss at his neck, before growing gloom. “I wish I could return with you once again.”

“As do I,” Jinki’s voice was slightly muffled with how close he was pressing his face into him. “But there’s only a few more months of my time before you will be down there with me forever.”

“Oh Jinki,” He breathed out quickly. When Jinki rose his gaze again, he was kissed rather roughly, “I love you so much. I’m so lucky to have met you, to be invited into your world. You know I appreciate everything you’ve ever risked for me... For us.”

“I’d give you the entire world Jonghyun. You must know that.”

Before Jonghyun could respond, the church bells over the crest of the hill in the distance chimed, signaling it is six. “I must go, Baby.”

“I will be thinking of you until the next time I can have you within my arms once again, my love.” Jinki pressed one more gentle kiss to his lips before smiling. “I love you.”

“I love you more.”

Jinki watched as he swam to the shore and up the dirt path to the grass-covered hill at the top. Jonghyun smiled so beautifully as he looked back and waved, the wind blowing softly through his hair, the sun for once using it’s light for something of a wonder as fell across his pretty features. It was only when he was out of sight Jinki lowered into the water. He would take every moment he had to take him in, for he wasn’t sure how long it would be until he saw him again.

As he twisted through the hole at the bottom of the lagoon that led to the greater ocean, he smiled remembering not too long in the future he would be taking the final trip down to his home with the love of his life.

Jawline Kiss (Pg, w/c 367, happens after this old au [x] but before [x] again all you really need to know is Jinki is an Elf, Jjong human (both princes) and their races/cultures are at war with each other(brief mention of.. death?)

Jonghyun had seen Jinki take out half a regiment of men by himself. His hands an instrument of death and destruction if he willed them to be, but as they moved over his waist and down his hips, pulling him back, he couldn’t view them as such. He was so soft, almost delicate,as if he was afraid he would break him if he touched too hard. For the time being that was. Jinki tugged him back against him, holding him close with his arms around his waist and his chin on Jonghyun’s shoulder. He managed to kiss his neck and then his jaw. “I woke up and you were gone from the cot. I grew worried.”

“Why did you do it?”

“Do what?”

“Save me.”

Jinki smiled a little, an amused tilt in his voice as he asked, “Which time?”

“The first. Against your people.”

Silence fell between them for some time before Jonghyun twisted in the hold to look up at him. Jinki’s eyes were quick to lock with his own, “Is the reason not obvious enough?”

“I wouldn’t have asked if it was.”

“It’s the same reason as all the other times.” Jinki cupped his cheek, still holding him close with the other arm. “Because I love you. And my kind only falls in love once. I couldn’t… choose anything over you. I won’t.”

“You only fall in love once?”

“I have been with many people in my life, but I’ve never been able to fall in love with any of them.” Jinki pressed soft kisses up his jaw until his lips were brushing the curve of his ear. “Until you, Stardust.”

“I never knew.”

“There’s much about me you have yet to learn.” Jinki smiled, “Now, come back to bed. We have a long ride ahead of us tomorrow.”

As he curved against Jinki’s side, walking back to their tent a short ways away, Jonghyun commented, “You almost sound excited to meet my Father.”

“Oh, not excited.” Jinki hummed. “Just… intrigued.”

“Scared?”

Jinki scuffed as he held the flap open for him, letting him slip through. ‘I’m not scared of any human. Except you, when you’re pissed at me.”

Jonghyun snorted. “Good boy.”

Kiss in the Rain ( pg, w/c 340, set during the epilogue of Bring Us Home AU if you go to read the main fic just know theres a lot of PTSD stuff involved)

They managed to get off the rowboat they rented and made a mad dash to the boathouse to hide from the rain, but more people were gathering in the limited space. Jinki grabbed his wrist, stopping him from continuing. He smile widely as Jonghyun looked back at him as they stood in the middle of the downpour. “What are you doing?”

“We’re already soaked.” Jinki giggled and Jonghyun paused for a moment, startled before he softened at the beauty of Jinki’s glee. “What’s a little more rain?”

“We’ll get sick.” Jonghyun frowned, pushing his hair from his face with his free hand. Then he sighed, avoiding Jinki’s gaze. “I’m sorry.”

“What for?”

“I had this entire day planned for weeks and I just-” He looked at the ground, at the puddle of mud beginning to accumulate around their feet in the edge of the grass. “I forgot to check the weather and our date… it’s ruined, Babe.”

“As long as I am with you, nothing is ruined,” Jinki said as quietly as he could after stepping close so his lips were against Jonghyun’s ear.

In a blink of an eye, Jonghyun was clinging to him, pressing his nose into his neck, “I just wanted to give you something back that was the same. I wanted you to not worry about anything just for one afternoon.”

Dazed, it took Jinki a moment to understand what he meant, but once it dawned on him, he swallowed down the lump in his throat. “Hey, hey come on look at me.” Once Jonghyun had, Jinki took his face between his hands, thumbs moving on his cheeks. “Oh, you sweet little man.” And then he was pressing their lips together, shifting until his arms were tight around Jonghyun’s thin waist. The rain was a bit cold and the way their clothes were plastered to their skin felt uncomfortable, but the kisses were warm and familiar, comforting, and it stopped Jinki from getting too emotional over how much he felt Jonghyun’s love for him.

Stomach Kiss (Pg, w/c 712, Set between [x] and [x]  Where Jjongs trans, Jinki’s nonbinary and they’re expecting. This is their I want to raise the baby discussion around month 4 and a half. Warning for conversation mentioning abortion, body dysphoria if that bothers or makes you uncomfy.)

“Hey, Sweetums?” Jonghyun slowly looked up from his stomach where his fingers were gently moving over the taut skin to find Jinki across the way bent over their history paper due the following week. There was a soft, uncommitted hum, and Jonghyun frowned. “Jinki.”

Slowly, they put their pencil down and twisted, a soft, yet tired smile on their face. “Yes, Baby boy?”

“Can we talk?”

Jinki looked back at their spread of textbooks and their laptop and then again at Jonghyun before they had their back toward him for a moment. Then they were standing and turning the desk light off, climbing over the bed until they were hovering a little over him. Jinki smiled sweetly, playing with a curl of Jonghyun’s hair as they softly asked, “Is something bothering you?”

“Have you thought about…” Jonghyun’s eyes fluttered a little as he took a deep breath, moving his left hand to gesture in the general area of his stomach.

“What I want to do after?” Jonghyun could only manage a small nod. Jinki hummed quietly, before resting gently beside him. They reached over and intertwined their fingers with Jonghyun’s left hand, smiling, “I have a bit actually. Is that what you want to talk about?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you want to go first?” Jonghyun shook his head quickly, and Jinki was quick to squeeze his hand. “Alright, I’ll go.” They flashed a quick smile, meant to be reassuring, before speaking again. Their eyes flicked to Jonghyun’s ever-growing belly before hesitantly placing their hand flat upon it, moving their thumb across the bare skin. “When you told me you were pregnant the first thought through my head was we should end it. My feelings about having children didn’t really matter at that moment. You and your body’s integrity did. However, now, I…”

As their voice trailed off Jonghyun picked up, guessing how Jinki had meant to finish it. “You want to keep them, don’t you sweetums?”

“I love them, Jonghyun.” Jinki had such a beautiful expression on their face. All soft, fond eyes, just a hint of a smile on their lips as they gazed upon the growing child they both made. “They’re made of little parts of each of us, the best parts. The beautiful parts that I haven’t tarnished. If you didn’t want… don’t want to keep them, I’ll understand. At least in time.” Then their head lifted to look at Jonghyun. “I don’t want my thoughts and desires to cloud your feelings and ultimate stance on this. We both have to agree wholeheartedly.”

“This entire experience feels… unlike me.” Jonghyun squeezed his eyes shut, letting his head fall back against the headboard of their bed. “I never wanted to experience pregnancy. I never wanted to have my body doing something viewed so feminine and womanly.”

“I know, Baby.”

“But I’ve always wanted children and I’ve seen myself raising children with you for a very long time. I just thought it would be through adoption.” Jonghyun pressed his lips together in a thin line before he opened his eyes to find Jinki’s looking at him. Wide, nervous, but vulnerable. Everything about them was open and understanding and it made Jonghyun want to cry. “What I’m saying Jinki, is that through everything I’m so happy it was you this happened with. I don’t think I could get through it with anyone else. I don’t want to raise a child with anyone else.”

Jinki bit into their lower lip to stop the damn thing from trembling too much, as if they tears threatening to spill over their lashes wasn’t going to give them away. “You want to raise this baby with me?”

Jonghyun squeezed Jinki’s thigh, “I do Sweetums. I want to keep them. They’re ours.”

In very quick moments, Jinki was pressing soft kisses all over Jonghyun’s face. Jonghyun giggled quietly as they did so. Then they pressed a long kiss to his stomach, smiling from ear to ear. “Your Za can’t wait to meet you.”

“Za, huh?”

Jinki’s cheeks were such a pretty shade of pink in the light from the lamp on the table. “I looked up gender-neutral parent names. Just in case.”

“You’re so fucking cute, Sweetums.”

“Shh, language~” Jonghyun snorted as Jinki giggled at their joke.

Chest Kiss (pg-13 because they nakey and post coitus. w/c 344. Star wars au, but after every part, I’ve posted so UH, here’s the tag if you’re interested)  

They should be getting up soon to clean up. Both had a Council meeting to attend once they landed on Coruscant, but with the clock flashing on the wall that they had another hour before they dropped out of hyperspace, they figured they could relish in the small moments after making love most of the time they aren’t given the luxury of having. The blanket was behind him, pushed back when he had climbed into Jinki’s lap. The man’s braids were becoming frizzy and coming undone in parts, and Jonghyun made a mental note to redo it for him before they landed. Content in the warmth and presence of the other in the force, Jonghyun ran his fingers over Jinki’s chest softly but stopped as he felt the raised skin of a rather large scar across his pectorals. “How did you get this one?”

“A nasty encounter with spice smugglers a few years back.”

“Oh, that’s right.” He looked up and gave him a sweet kiss. “I do wish you were more careful. I see you more in the Halls of healing than I do alone outside in the Temple.”

“Ever thought I might keep going just to see you?” Jinki grinned, and Jonghyun deemed it illegal across the entire galaxy to look that good post-coitus. “Besides, we just had a two-month long negotiation between the rebels and the Senator on Ryloth. Doesn’t that count?”

“Telling the Senator I did not wish to be pleased with a woman ‘gifted’ to me for the night nine different times was not what I meant by spending time with you.”

“Mm, you’re right. I apologize.” Jinki tilted his head to the left, puzzlement on his expression.

“What?”

“How come the force allowed you to be so beautiful, dear one?”

Jonghyun swatted at his chest from where his hand had still been resting, “Oh do shut up.”

“Ow, that hurt.”

With a sigh, Jonghyun leaned down slightly to press a few soft kisses against Jinki’s chest. “Does that make it better, Love?”

“Quite so, Master Jedi.”
