Ok I have more headcannons for the ✨hatchetverse✨
Number 1:
All the men in the Lipshitz/Mathews/Goldstein family have a middle name that’s a derivative of Jon. Paul, Gary, and Jerry have jon, John, and Jonn respectively, Trevor has Jonah and Richie Jonathan, and other men in the family tree also have one of those middle names, something similar, or the same with different spelling.
Headcannon B:
Some of Lauren’s characters are cousins. Specifically Emma, Ruth, and Brooke, their mothers are sisters, hence the surname differences. This little tidbit is relevant to another headcannon coming up.
Part III:
Richie introduced Paul to anime. Paul was babysitting and Richie put on sailor moon, now Paul likes anime, specifically magical girl anime. Because it was his first, his favourite is sailor moon, and he’s a crystal truther (like me) and has seen the original anime but dislikes all the filler that wasn’t in the manga that crystal excludes to cut to the chase of the plot. And the precious little simp sees him and Emma as Mamorou and Usagi, Endymion and Serenity, Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon, he thinks he is her fate destined saviour (he is) and simps for her in the same lame way as the dumping in the show.
4rd:
None of the nerdy prudes can drive. Ruth can’t safely drive because her headgear is considered a distraction, Richie is an ambulatory mobility aid user and legally can’t drive, Peter can’t drive because his eyesight is so bad in one eye that he’s legally blind and also legally can’t drive, Grace’s parents don’t let their little girl drive and she doesn’t want to go against her parents, Steph can’t drive because she lost her licence for reckless driving (she gets exited a bit too easy on the road)
(Edit/update: I should have probably mentioned that Pete’s situation is being based off of the road laws of Victoria, Australia, where from my knowledge if you have poor vision in one eye and are legally blind in the other you can’t drive, so I might be wrong when it comes to American road rules)
Fifth:
There was a comic convention “incident”. Ruth and Richie wanted to set up Paul and Emma, because the little nerds are friends and they wanted to set up their uncle and cousin respectively because they were seeing ✨signs✨ that their loved ones had a crush on each other. There was a comic convention in Clivesdale or some other close town to the island and Ruth and Richie wanted to go and found it as a way to set them up. Ruth asked if her favourite adult cousin could chaperone her to the convention, and hey there might be some stoners to test product. Richie told Paul there would be sailor moon and also he can’t drive and come on uncle Paul you get me the most. Ruth and Richie withheld the information for each other’s attendance to their respective adults and “coincidentally” found each other at the con, and Paul and Emma were befuddled and smitten, and now the 4 of them go to at least 1 con a year for the sake of family and saving gas money (and so Paul and Emma can flirt)
Ok sorry if this is long these have been brewing for a while. (This took me 40 minutes to type)

Butterfly
Summary: Miguel hates Venn Diagrams.
A/n: Uhm...the butterfly effect or whatever, I don't know. So, basically... Miguel is a selfish bootyhole in every universe.
Parásitos Masterlist
Warnings for the series: Dead Dove Do Not Eat!, angst, smut (dub-con), breeding kink for sure, Miguel is delulu, heavy topics such as death, gore, children dying/being tested on and more, allusions to comic origins and story, Dark Fic!!
The papers scattered around the table were horrific. Images of cancerous tumors under skin of test subjects, oftentimes causing the body to deform, bones to shift out of place and flesh to tear.
His hands start to tremble. The number of files and reports, lab notes and tests. It was too much, it made him nauseous, his stomach twisting unpleasantly.
Your Miguel was no saint, even you knew that.
But he knew he didn't tell you about this, you might have no idea what he really does at work.
That's where realities diverge. He stopped the experiments, those done by him anyway. His employer poisoned his body, getting him hooked on Rapture.
He became Spider-Man, not by the kindness of his heart but because he was finding a way out of addiction.
He assumes all Miguel's are as selfish as him. Yours continued the experiments, he was brought fame, the streets were 'safer', at least those in uptown, he was in good standing with his boss.
Xina, out of state. Dana, left him. Gabriel...
Gabriel doesn't answer his calls in this universe, neither does his mother. He thought he was better off, too consumed in his own success to care. Too consumed in building a new life and family with you to notice.
You and Gabriela were the only things left in this Miguel's world, apart from his astounding research developments.
But by God he was a prick to anyone else but his wife and child. Miguel, feeling ever so unprepared for stepping into the role of his counterpart, was greeted by side glances, glares and at times fearful looks from interns and assistants.
Asking a simple question made some stutter out. They were shaking in anxiety as he smiled awkwardly to calm their nerves.
Once alone, inside his office, Lyla manifested, her eyes wandering around the room, staring intensely at him and waiting. She was quiet, she was different.
Another thing, this universe's Lyla was flat. Snarky but clearly programmed to be sassy in the most surface level way possible. She didn't have a personalized wardrobe or the hair that she had begged him to have. She was standard.
His Lyla took over quickly, able to glitch the inferior version of herself out of existence. A virus of some kind was embedded into her programming, causing her to crash.
He assumed Xina didn't stick around long enough to give her much of a personality... or security.
It almost made him... sad.
...
He came home, knowing you had come from picking up Gabriela from school an hour before.
"How'd you give her a coat and sunglasses?"
Your voice made him tense.
Your head was directed at the stove, eyes glancing as he turned the corner. Your gaze was stuck on his jacket, now particularly tighter around his shoulders, a faint uncomfortable creased line appearing as he placed his bag on the kitchen island.
He follows your line of sight, your eyes flickering to the overstuffed case. His hand finds your waist, the other pushing in the papers, the faint crinkle of it making you wince slightly.
"Hm?"
You eye him, continuing your task despite the suspicion building in your gut. You turn with an unimpressed look. His silence made your hands fidget with the dish towel.
Both of your heads turned sharply.
Gabriela's shouts of laughter startled you both, her footsteps becoming louder as she ran into the kitchen, her socked feet slipping on the freshly cleaned marble floors.
Lyla, the new Lyla you weren't accustomed to, was following behind her, playing a game.
Your eyes widened, you could feel the shot of anxiety accumulate in the pit of your stomach and go up to your throat in a shout as Gabriela's head was diving straight for the kitchen island's sharp corner.
Miguel's arm shot out, his hand blocking the edge, ultimately leading her to slam her forehead against his soft palm.
Your limbs were too slow, having barely reached her shoulder by the time the impact was supposed to have taken place.
A sharp inhale and narrowed eyes made Miguel chuckle and Gabriela freeze.
"Niña!"
As you reprimanded and scolded, he folded his arms, nodding along. Lyla stood sheepish in the corner of the room, apologetic in having partaken in Gabriela's accidental slip.
You shake your head and glare, Lyla's increased playfulness now irritating, especially since her secondary purpose was to watch over Gabi at all times.
Lyla, the one that was left, wasn't programmed that way anymore. Her priority was Miguel, if anything else, the multiverse and its varying realities.
Gabriela sat on your lap, your hands searching through her scalp for any bumps and bruises. Something didn't feel right, deep down it felt as if she really had managed to slam her head into the table.
You still felt the panic and anxiety. Despite what you saw, the feeling that something was wrong was still present in your gut.
"Bring me a flashlight," you call out gently.
Lyla's eyes flicker to the table, her face falling and her eyes widening. She looked to Miguel in worry. His smile fades, he looks down.
The corner of the table was blurred, the particles around it shifting in bright hues of green, black and white. Like TV static, it felt fuzzy, as if he could feel the electrons bouncing and rearranging the closer he got to it.
It quickly faded into the normal marble stone, pristine, sharp, not a chip in sight.
You stare at him from the living room, concerned at the way his chest started to heave and his eyes flickered all over the room as if he were looking for something.
"Miguel..."
He hears your voice overlap Lyla's. Your tone worried and impatient, confused by his sudden somber expression. Lyla's voice was right next to his ear, he could detect something akin to pity, like a mother attempting to pull a child away from a toy store.
These toys weren't for him. He was bound to break them.
You stared after him, watching as he stormed his way to his home office after handing you the light haphazardly.
...
"It was going to be dulled. The tabletop was supposed to be removed because Gabriela got a couple stitches..."
He doesn't listen. Pages were scattered over his desk, his body hunched over as he attempted to read through experiments, what felt like hundreds of them.
They all had his name credited, either by morbid inspiration or because he partook in the data collection. Deaths were called failures, those that lived but could barely function were "taken care of".
"They were going to move out, back to Downtown to live with her parents..."
Alchemax used the research and results to make a new type of human, stronger, smarter, deadlier. The power the company held over the country had tightened, Downtown took the brunt of the less than savory effects.
He couldn't imagine you both living there, the infrastructure had somehow worsened in Downtown, at least his universe stood a chance, at least they had a... Spider-Man.
Miguel glances up from the latest experiment's lab notes, now focused on embryonic and infant development. This Miguel was testing on babies now. things were "safer", results weren't as horrendous as those earlier experiments, but still... they varied.
One wrong line of code and a child could grow an extra limb or worse... turn into monsters.
"Gabriela was supposed to have a scar, right above her eyebrow."
He glares at her, his brow twitching in irritation. Why does he need to know this? He doesn't want to, and he doesn't need to worry about it.
He'd make sure you both got the lives you deserved, Gabriella would never have scars, she would be happy, she would have a normal childhood and you... you wouldn't live with the fact that your husband's face was unrecognizable because of a gun shot into the side of his jaw.
"These events were supposed to happen, after he died... and you're just stopping them, like a roadblock."
She nods as he starts to shake his head, her hands coming up together to cover her mouth. She steps closer sympathetically, it only frustrates him more. He didn't like feeling like his options were limited.
He refused to believe he couldn't be happy.
"We're not supposed to be here-"
His anger was palpable at that. For the first time in a long time, he shut her off, he went into her memory bank and wiped what she saw in the kitchen.
You open the door to the room; his mind was forced to clear instantly.
"Ey..." you speak softly, not giving him a chance to gather himself further as you tiptoed your way to him.
He attempted to cover up the files, but it was too late. He noticed your blank look, the soft sigh and the soft hand at his shoulder.
"I know it's hard..."
He tenses. You look away from the photographs, the images making you feel something painful in your chest.
"You're saving lives, Miguel, you're helping these children, see..."
You point to the after picture then to the before picture. Oh. You thought-
His face shifts to mortification. Fuck, fuck, fuck. What do you know? What do you know for certain?
You kiss his cheek softly, leaning your head against his shoulder as you bend your knees to his level from where he sits stiffly at his desk.
"Look how happy they are now."
You take a picture and lift it to your face to inspect closer, a before picture of a sleeping infant, waddled in soft blankets and eyes slightly open and full of life. You didn't notice the mother's look of dread, her hollowed cheeks or her thin hair.
You were too focused on the baby, the child, the test subject, to think of why so many of the mothers looked so defeated, as if they haven't had proper clothes or meals in what seemed like months.
A promise was made to them, based on the notes his other self had taken. A healthier baby that can survive the harshness of their situation.
If not, food, clothes, luxuries they didn't have in downtown would be given in exchange for...
The babies always were the cutest things before testing started.
...
"M-Miguel..."
Your hands squeeze onto his shoulders tightly, the bed creaking from each rise and fall of your hips against his. His hand was at the small of your back, ensuring the thick throbbing tip of his cock stayed within your cunt.
He closes his eyes, feeling your thighs shake and tense next to his hips. He savors the moment, his thumb swirling over your clit lazily as he buries his head on your shoulder.
You catch your breath, hands running over his skin, soft mumbles of pleasure escaping between your lips as he involuntarily thrusted up into you.
He was colder now, something you've noted but ignored since that night. A stark contrast to the heat beneath your skin. His hands were squeezing you closer, his bicep flexing as if he were holding himself back from moving you against his body himself.
His body was different, and you could feel it. He hums as you press your palms over his shoulder blades, the pads of your fingers pressing lightly against the muscles of his back.
Your eyes flicker all over his face, his lips now skimming over your breasts, tongue peaking to taste the hardened pebbles of your buds.
You close your eyes as he groans, so desperate and breathy. Unlike him. A crease forms between your brow and you wince.
He was bigger, it took longer to adjust to his cock. Maybe he was pent up, you thought. Little did you know he really was. This Miguel hasn't fucked in a while, he's sure his alter had his way with you frequently. From what he's seen and analyzed and tries to replicate in this moment, he pleased you greatly.
He's sure he could do better though, he feels the way your pussy clamps onto him, frantically squeezing and letting go as if something was breaching into you, a foreign object that wasn't supposed to be reaching into you and forcing you to spread.
He smells the hint of iron and pennies. He opens his eyes briefly to the sight of the base of his cock, a string of red, your slick and his pre-cum coating up to his lower stomach.
A pleasant chill runs up and down his spine. You were his now. He broke you in, he was taking you as if it was your first time. In his mind, he took your virginity, you were finally getting fucked by a real man, making love to your real man.
It was your first time together.
His larger hand cups the back of your head, trapping you between his neck and shoulder.
You died. In his universe you were a casualty, vulture, venom... he's not sure anymore. All he knew- all he wanted to remember was that your car was derailed, and you had been trapped under rubble for a couple of hours, the area around you evacuated, Spider-Man was fighting the villain and was too occupied to hear the screams and pleas of a woman who was slowly losing oxygen.
You had a job interview that day. You wanted to get out of downtown and thrive.
He doesn't remember you; you've never met but he almost wishes he could have heard your voice, choked and broken, gargled and filled with desperation.
He fantasized about it, finding you in the rubble, carrying you out to safety, touching you, loving you, marrying you, fucking you, making you his in every possible way.
He hears your broken gasps and moans underneath him now, your legs spreading wider, your cunt gushing over him and your lips glistening as you attempt to quiet down your sounds of pleasure.
Your Miguel got lucky. You had a child, a beautiful, well-rounded child. He wanted it, he needed it. And he took it, easily.
His cum leaks out of you, your arm covering half of your face as you attempt to catch your breath. You wince as he traces over your lips, pushing the swirl of white and red back into you.
His hand traces over your soft stomach, your huff of laughter making his skin pucker. He wanted to feel it. He wanted to see it. The small swell of life, the sweet smell of your milk.
He could see the traces of your pregnancy, the marks of age on your body. You wear the necklace he had given you, the other him. It falls between your breasts, and it nudges against his nose as he traces small pecks to your skin up to your lips.
It was gold, something you never had to take off. Two butterflies with a small caterpillar near the middle.
He wanted it for himself, to feel it for himself. He lifts himself up with his forearms, keeping you below him, his cock hardening between your swollen cunt's lips, making you gasp and wince lightly.
"I want a baby."

Thank you for the comic con updates and your cm fanfics during the downfall arc. You set them in Nicodranas more than once. What does their beach house look like?
You're very welcome. I had fun writing those over the BH hiatus.
Outside Ocean view. Right on the beach, but far enough away from the sea to avoid monsters and high tide. Bricked walkway. Two vehicle garage. 1 of which stores Ashton and Fearne's crawler/tools. Their crawler is essentially a Harley motorcycle, but with steam pipes. The other side stores any brumestone vehicles that they rent and boxes of their treasures. It's cream colored, brick reddish brown shingles, dark wood front door. All arched doorways.
Living room has a couch that could double as a guest bed. Overhead torch lights that have a touch of fey whimsy. Two maroon arm chairs, a crystal that gets that same channels as Nana Morri, plants that Fearne constantly has to reinvigorate with her druidic magic because the hot sun can sometimes be too much. A decorative hour glass on the wall, but instead of sand, it may or may not be healing water. (It does) A second sturdy wood coffee table built by Chet. A portrait of Mister on their crawler by the sea.
Kitchen: Bar like. Blue tile backsplash. Ice box. Stools at the long island. Stove, not as nice as their cabin, but it works. Fearne likes to do outdoor bonfires. Little nook in the corner with cushioned bench seats. Tropical fruit in a bowl.
Hallway has mirrors, various crawler race portraits, and abstract paintings of gems and flowers.
Upstairs: Always gotta have a playroom for Mister with his indoor climbing tree. Next room has a writing desk for Fearne. Ashton also occasionally does graffiti art on canvas or their clothes. Also there's a long day bed should they relax in other ways.
Their bedroom: Always a huge bed to fit their Titan forms. Canopy style, they always need replace the curtains. Metal trunk for Ashton's winnings and Fearne's beginning deals with impressionable sailors. Grey chaise/daybed. Balcony with little outdoor table and chairs. Spy glass. Wood floors cuz carpet would be too hot.
Their closet: Blue double doors. An array of rainbow color. Things are always left on the floor. A silver full length mirror that's easy for Ashton to move. If I’m being honest, I feel like Fearne and Ashton keep their smutty stuff here — lingerie, swimsuits, books, and toys for both of them. There may be some Burlesque style paintings poorly done after a paint and sip night. Obscured by a trophy or two.
Their backyard: Lounge chairs. Crappy falling apart umbrellas, but Fearne prefers to make shade with giant plant growth leaves.
Bathrooms: Powder room downstairs: Peeling palm tree wallpaper. Upstairs: Chisels of various sizes for Ashton's hair cuts. Tons of fur conditioners and shampoos for Fearne.

One Piece Shipping War - Round 1 Side B
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ThatchIzou edit was made by @cloneraid
Propaganda under the cut.
Propaganda for Thatch x Izou:
I still need to make a Thatch outfit to match your Izou :P (be glad I forgot before Comic Con) (Mod: yes, this is very much meant towards me. Other than this, no propaganda was submitted)
Propaganda for Shachi x Penguin:
They may be underrated characters with very little screen time, but you can see that they clearly are affectionate with each other (ex: hugging in the manga) and also speaking at the same time, sharing thoughts, and beyond that, they grew up together. They've clearly known each other for a long time and typically work together very well. They are a package deal, you cannot separate them <3
Two idiots with one braincell/ two bros sitting on each other laps because they're gay / it's not gay if it's the homie
Law officiated their marriage fr
They're overcompensating for how gay they are for each other and everyone can tell
(Headcanons included) Everyone who likes a cute younger brother aura X a serious Tsundere older brother aura would love this ship! Shachi and Penguin know each other before they even met Law. I think their parents are on good term since they went to the beach together. I like to think that they knew each other since birth. They are both very close, and inseparable since forever. And it would be cute to think that the both of them only has each other. A cute and shy Penguin being best friend with a fun and exciting Shachi ( ꈍᴗꈍ)♡ They both survived the tsunami together. And since Penguin was the oldest one. He would feel like he had the responsibility to protect Shachi. Big brother aura Penguin! He loves Shachi so much that he would do anything to protect him… They are very close for a long time because they knew each other's blood type and Shachi invited Penguin to stay at his uncle's house. ✨But of course, the uncle and aunt were abusive. Since Penguin thought that he had to protect Shachi at all cost. Penguin would always be the one to receive most of the physical abuse. Shachi would be a crybaby and cry everytime he sees Penguin in pain. But Penguin would always say that he was okay. (skipping to growing up) there's also that time where a bomb exploded. Instead of worrying about themselves, they cared about the other person more ✨I think it was Penguin would called out for Shachi? Then, there was the fighting scene on swallow island where ShachiPen fought the enemy together. I like to imagine the both of them already liking each other since their younger age. Especially Shachi. Shachi who had been protected during his childhood by Penguin decided to become stronger for him. Because of INK, my favorite artist, that drew a lot of ShachiPen, I have their version of ShachiPen stuck in my head. And it also became my headcanon. Shachi became a lot stronger than Penguin and it is now his turn to protect him. Hehehe. After Savaody I like to imagine that something bad happened to one of them. Then they finally confessed their love. ♡(ŐωŐ人)

What We Do in the Shadows Showrunner on Nandor/Guillermo "Boundaries"
What We Do in the Shadows Showrunner/EP Paul Simms on Guillermo and Nandor setting "boundaries," the vampires "helping" Gizmo, and more.
Published Mon, 09 Sep 2024 15:37:09 -0500 by Ray Flook
Tumblr media
When we last checked in on how things were looking with the time we have left with Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Colin (Mark Proksch), Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), Nandor (Kayvan Novak), The Guide (Kristen Schaal), and their friends (and enemies), we were getting some very interesting intel on the sixth and final season of FX's What We Do in the Shadows. With the series set to return on October 21st, Showrunner/EP Paul Simms is sharing even more pieces of the puzzle. Having moved out of the Staten Island mansion after turning down the opportunity to be a vampire, Simms notes that Guillermo and Nandor "have established some boundaries. He realizes that now he's got to go out in the real world and start his own life."
That new life includes a new job – another aspect of Guillermo's new life that has the vampires concerned. "The vampires are so concerned about his ability to function in the real world that they follow him to his job to quote-unquote 'help him out,'" Simms added during an interview with TV Line – which can only end well, we're quite sure. Admitting that originally, "we had no idea how we were going to end" the long-running show, Simms shared that "I'm really happy with the ending… We didn't want to get too bogged down in trying to tie up every loose end or get too sentimental about it. We just wanted to make another super funny season and have the ending proceed logically from that, and I think we've done it."
What We Do in the Shadows Final Season: New Vamp, Doc Crew Involved
Heading into the show's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2024 panel, Simms offered some very intriguing intel on what's to come – including Guillermo starting a new life and Colin looking to help Laszlo build a new familiar/best friend. During the SDCC 2024, Berry, Proksch, Schaal, Novak (via Zoom), Simms, and director Kyle Newacheck were on hand to screen the first episode of the final season and tease what's still to come. The three big takeaways? We're introduced to our vamps' original roommate, Jerry (Michael Patrick O'Brien) – and let's just say that his reawakening (they forgot to wake him since 1976) has an impact on the house's dynamic. In addition, we learn where Guillermo's living now and what he's been up to. Finally – and especially interesting – the vampires begin calling into question the whole documentary thing.
Speaking of the documentary crew, Newacheck noted that the story of our usually unseen supporting cast "does get opened up towards the later end of the season in a very meta way that was fun to make." In fact, the director even had a chance to get in on the action. "I will say that I did get to play a director in the show at a certain point while I was directing the show, which was the most meta thing I've ever been a part of. So stay tuned, y'all. It's gonna get wild and weird," Newacheck added.
As an added bonus, you may have noticed at the opening that we mentioned Novak checked in via Zoom – but that wasn't quite right. Novak checked in as Nandor – and had a pretty graphic response when asked if Guillermo was going to come to terms with his feelings for Nandor. "I have to keep my voice down because Guillermo is in the next room, jacking off into his pillow," Nandor shared, saying to someone off camera who was supposed to be Guillermo, "What? No, I wasn't talking about you. Shut the fuck up!" Here's a brief clip of Nocak from today's panel:

[id: Three comic panels. In the first Blue Beetle 1 (Dan Garrett- Blue and red costume) and Blue Beetle 2 (Ted Kord- two-toned blue costume with yellow goggles and accents) are fighting. In the second panel, the blue Scarab amulet flies into the air between them briefly stopping the fighting. The ghostly visage of a pharaoh behind it. Both heroes stand looking up at the Scarab, which radiates yellow light as it talks to them.
Ted: Dan--if it really is you somehow-- you've got to fight this thing--! Don't let it control you--! Dan: ...Con...trol...me...?
Ted: It's this lousy Scarab--! Gotta get rid of it before-- The Scarab: No! I am not so easily discarded!
The Scarab: I am part of you-- Part of you both!! /end id]
Tumblr media
[id: Three comic panels the view starting far away looking up at the buildings where the heroes were fighting on top of as the Scarab radiates yellow waves of energy. The view zooms in across the next two panels till the viewer is looking at the two Blue Beetles as the Scarab amulet speaks.
The Scarab: It was I who saved Garrett's life those long months ago on Pago Island-- Keeping him alive during his long imprisonment beneath the Earth-- Until your recent battle with Carapax unwittingly released him!
The Scarab: For countless centuries, I have sought a champion to wield my power! For a time, I thought that one was Daniel Garrett-- But I know now that I was wrong!
The Scarab: You are the one I have waited for, Ted Kord! Slay Daniel Garrett-- and the power will be yours! Ted: What--?!? Dan: No!! /end id]
Tumblr media
[id: A single comic panel featuring Blue Beetle 2's face in profile, eyes blank, as the Scarab amulet talks to him. In pink lineart are hypothetical scenarios of Ted using the Scarab's power to fly, shoot beams, and tear things apart with his bare hands.
The Scarab: Think of it, Ted Kord-- the power to sunder mountains-- to soar through the skies like your insect name-sake--! All this can be yours-- And yours alone! /end id]
Tumblr media
[id: Four comic panels. Blue Beetle twists and turns struggling against the influence of the Scarab on his mind visualized by yellow beams surrounding his head. Once he finally shakes off the Scarab's influence Blue Beetle 1 appears behind him, heavily shadowed which hides his human features before attacking Ted, punching the other Blue Beetle into a brick wall with a 'Pow' sound effect.
The Scarab: All you need to do is take it! Ted: Yes! Yes!!
Ted: What wonders I could work with such power--! I could-- could--
Ted: --No!! I can't listen to this--! I won't listen!! It's wrong! It's--
Ted: --Uunnhh!! Dan: Fool!! /end id]
Tumblr media
[id: Three comic panels. Blue Beetle 1 tackles Blue Beetle 2 off of the roof they were on. As they fall Ted manages to switch positions with Dan. They fall into an alleyway knocking over a dumpster and other trash.
Dan: You've already stolen my name! You won't live long enough to steal my power! Ted: Dan--Uunnff-- Please! You've got to listen to me!
Ted: The Scarab is using you! It's using us both!! Dan: No! The Scarab saved me--transformed me--!
Ted: Yes-- into what it needed you to be! The Scarab is alive, Dan-- some sort of alien entity--! It must require a human host to give it mobility and-- uunnff!! /end id]
Continuing Khaji Da's original speaking role in the original solo Blue Beetle run from 1986. In which it attempts to mentally dominate Ted, and try to seduce him with ultimate power for the low low cost of murdering the old Blue Beetle. Ted manages to fight off the Scarab's influence and hypothesizes that it's actually an alien parasite.
Unfortunately, Ted can't get through to Dan who was revived/kept alive by Khaji Da and healed of his injuries as Dan's entrapment underground without food or water for months in a state of near death likely left him easily dominated by Khaji Da's will.

Fanfic Writer Asks:
5, 10, 17, 29
"I’m Bored and Anxious So I Slapped Together a List of Fan Fic Writer Asks"
5 - What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
I'm notoriously not a huge fan of Mr. Sinister because it's just one of these things Marvel Comics has done to death, and guy's hopelessly overpowered. So aside from like 2 short oneshots, I never utilized him in my X-Men stories and my X-Men main verse.
But lately I've been thinking about a very meta kind of oneshot which arose from an Alternative Universe story for my X-Men verse that I did a while ago. A oneshot that included - and those scenes were very much part of my canon and not AU - some flashbacks of when movieverse!Scott was Essex' lab rat as a kid. That story also elaborated on how Essex has kept on meddling subtly, telepathically with Scott's life in the course of the years. In that official X-Men verse of mine, Essex has been put on ice deep under the ocean by Charles and Emma shortly before Scott came to Charles as a teenager and is mostly rendered powerless. But I like to think, very subtly, even at what is basically a coma, Essex still has a bit of influence on the real world. And of course he's never given up on the plan of creating his mutant super race and that perfect fabricated mutant child for his own uses. Since he did know somehow though, that his plan would never work as intended with Scott and Jean - cue Destiny coming in, in some way ... Bear with me, this whole thing is not finished beign plotted -, Essex decided to give Logan and Jean as his favorite parents a shot since those would be just an equally powerful combination of genes. Long story short - literally -, this would be basically the reason of why my whole version of the old X-Men movieverse happened in the end, with Essex' subtle manipulations making sure, Scott and Jean gave up on their relationship after Liberty Island because of several issues and because of Jean's attraction to Logan, not least by making sure, Scott had someone else he was attracted to and was basically out of the way of Jean's and Logan's spawn in the making. This oneshot would basically be nothing but a legitimation for writing my verse that I don't need because everything Marvel is multiverse and everything's possible and legit. So I don't really think I'm ever gonna write this, not least because I'm just not interested in doing anything longer with Essex. And I don't want to undermine what Scott and his wifey and Jean and Logan have in that verse by retconning it into something manipulated by an outsider. But the simple idea of Essex literally throwing in the face of Scott's partner for decades at this point, that she's nothing but a badly fabricated plot device? Ouch, here comes the pain. Maybe I'll do something like a vague nightmare about that thing at some point as part of a bigger story but really writing it out? Nah. I'm only that masochistic by proxy for my characters.
10 - Is there a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
Honestly with how silent fandom has become in terms of feedback, it's mostly surprise these days that there's hardly any response at all (the person sending this ask being one of the few exceptions to regularly save my day). Because every now and then I do write popular themes and somewhat popular characters and think, well, this should get some response at least. Alas. I also was slightly taken aback by the reaction of a reader to one of the rare torture/non con scenes I wrote and published lately because it felt a bit like victim blaming. Which like. Just no.
17 - What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?
After writing my fictional season of American Idol, I know more about the TV and casting show business (especially about how many celebs can't even get out of bed without their first line of coke in the morning) than I ever wanted to know.
29 - Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic.
I'll cheat a bit here and take that fic I mentioned above because I'm never gonna post it on AO3; as of now, it's only in our German archive. The reason for that is that I got exactly one single active reader there, and that reader fell in love with a romance in my X-Men verse that got hardly any to zero response on AO3. And since that oneshot is an Alternative Universe version to my X-Men verse, spawning from the AU idea of that romance getting a happy instead of a horrible ending, meaning, something that I wrote only for said reader for her to be happy, it wouldn't make sense, translating it and putting it on AO3. I still very much like the parts I mentioned though that are canon for my regular verse too, because sometimes I really need a bit of Scott childhood drama in my life.
Just as a preface for understanding: Avery is an OC of mine, an old childhood friend-turned-enemy of Scott's with whom he's lived together on the streets as a teenager for a while. In this scene, Emma is taking Scott and Avery together into some shared memories in their heads because they're looking for a mental signature to follow, to go where Essex has been buried who is about to wake from his coma.
“What …? How …?” “I guess that's what we're here to find out.” Emma squeezed Avery's shoulder once more and then pointed back to the lab area, where a heavy double door opened after the clicking of several locks and the beeping of a code access entered. Even though neither of them really cared to see these particular memories … They had to find out. Otherwise, all this shit would soon be a reality all over the world. With his fists clenched hard, Avery looked at the white-skinned guy, even taller than Scott and himself, who entered the room with a cheerful whistle - some French classic - on his lips, pushing a trolley with various instruments in front of him, the sight of which promptly had Avery's stomach turn again. Instinctively, his fingertips wandered back to the fresh burn on his neck, that characteristic scar which he saw reflected in blood-red on that asshole's forehead right now. Indeed, a more than clear branding as the new property of this psycho. As if. Only in the bastard's wet dreams. By now, Avery didn't even have the strength to tell himself that he didn't care that the defenseless body on that stretcher had begun to tremble noticeably since Essex's memory image had entered the room, or that he was already choking with nausea again himself when that psycho made short work of the only piece of clothing on his victim's body with an impatient telekinetic touch. “Hm.” A discontented-sounding grumble came from the stranger, from a voice about as pleasant as nails on a slate, as he looked at a few numbers on a monitor belonging to the stretcher, obviously spitting out the various results of freshly measured vital signs. “Low potassium and blood pressure again. What did I tell you, Scott? With how tall you're growing recently, I can't have you being a picky eater. If you keep starving yourself, we can solve this very quickly with a feeding tube. I don't want to have to repeat myself. Or do you want me to have to track down Alex and lock him up here instead of you just because you're being so difficult? I don't want that because your mutation is much more promising, but if you don't finally learn how to behave, you'll leave me no choice. Understood?” As there was no response from his young victim, Essex tapped the tip of a scalpel demonstratively against a spot directly on the right hip bone, which was already adorned with a huge Band-aid, with a theatrical sigh. “Yes, sir.” The tonelessness in this choked reply had Avery inevitably take a step back against the wall, away from this alienating scene. No prisoner, no matter which age, who had been subjected to such treatment for only a few days would be talking like that.

Hi! I love your comic Lore Rekindled, it's pretty entertaining! (definetely planning on reading Time Gate when I finally have some time lol). I'm currently very early in the process of making a comic myself, and while I have the main idea down, and the planning sorta done (I'm busy with uni, so I've been working on it bit by bit), I can't seem to figure out how to grow an audience. I was wondering how you did it and how long it took?
oh god oh no y'all are asking me how to grow an audience UH-
so like, here's the thing, I can try and give you pointers, but I also like... don't consider myself as someone with an audience ?? Like obviously there's an audience for Lore Rekindled but up until that point, Time Gate's been running for like 10+ years and I think it only has 5-10 regular readers nowadays, it peaked in its audience numbers years ago when it was still on Tapas before their platform went downhill and I bailed and since then the industry has only become more and more saturated making it even harder to get seen. Rekindled, on the other hand, has been super refreshing to work on because of how much people have flocked to it (which was surprising af but I couldn't be happier about it ngl it's been great ;o; <3) but that's really because Rekindled had the advantage of a pre-existing audience to tap into (specifically the communities of ULO/antiLO/etc. who were looking for something to rejuvenate their love for what once was in LO). So that made it a bit easier to build an audience, but that's something that goes for a lot of fandoms.
Original stuff is definitely a bit of a harder sell because you have to go out and find the people who might like your stuff and then convince them to give it a try. Building an audience in an original market is just not something I've ever been good at, I can't stand social media, I don't like "playing the algorithm", I just want to tell a story with my own characters and because of that, it often feels like I'm posting to the void with only a couple cheerleaders rooting me on. Which like, don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the readers I DO have, but it can make creating comics feel like an uphill slog when you're not seeing any growth at all every time you update and try your best to advertise. Original projects are my own personal boulder if y'know what I'm saying ( ̄y▽, ̄)╭
At the very least, working on Rekindled has definitely helped open up the doors for Time Gate a couple more inches, because a lot of stuff in Rekindled is also in Time Gate so when people enjoy Rekindled, I can point them towards Time Gate and go "Oh, you like Persephone's hot and cold characterization? You like Charon's aloofness? You like the banter between Hades and Persephone? Go read Time Gate." (。・∀・)ノ゙
That said, I think the best experience I've had with marketing Time Gate so far actually happened this year - when I went to the Island Entertainment Expo, a gaming and media convention (similar to Comic Con but on a waaaaay smaller scale lmao). There I was actually able to talk to people face to face and draw them in with physical proof of my work, it was less posting and hoping and more connecting with others and showing them my work and giving them an elevator pitch. And considering it was a convention full of like-minded people cosplaying as video game and anime characters, Time Gate fit right in because that's the niche it was written for. I'm due to go to another convention in June and possibly one in October (if I get in) and I'm hoping they're just as successful as IEX was because it was so refreshing to actually get to market my comic on a playing ground catered to my work; rather than one that would bury it after 30 seconds just for not posting at the right time of day or using the exact right combination of hashtags or not using reels.
Of course, doing tables and stuff is something that you're likely not going to jump right into especially when you're starting out. So considering you're just starting, focus less on growing an audience and more on just making your comic. It's a lot better of a sell to an audience when you have proof of your work existing and your biggest struggle in the beginning isn't going to be building an audience, but building good habits. A lot of webcomics don't even make it past a year of regular publication because of how difficult it is in practice to maintain a regular schedule. Often times the people who don't make it past that year either get bored, overwhelmed, or burnt out from the work it requires, especially when they're drawing the same characters over and over and over again - and even more so when they're doing it by themselves, with next to no audience, and no return investment. No exaggeration, drawing comics is hard, but like going to the gym, it gets easier as you get into your groove and learn what works and doesn't work for you as a creator.
Most of all, while I do hope that anyone going into webcomics can build themselves an audience they can be proud of having, please please please don't go into making webcomics purely for building an audience, because it's hard and not guaranteed. As I had said above, I still don't even consider myself as someone with an audience in the traditional sense because when it comes to Time Gate, it's still a VERY small thing, and with Rekindled, I consider the people who read it less of "my audience" and more just the community that I came into who engages with my work because it's made specifically for the community. So please, for the love of god, do it for yourself first and foremost, don't get trapped in the grind of chasing an audience when you're still just getting your work off the ground <3
I hope that helps a little, sorry I don't have a more direct "do xyz and that'll do the trick!" answer (and it turned into another essay post) but to be perfectly honest, that straightforward answer just sorta doesn't exist in this industry. Sometimes you get an audience from catering to a niche, sometimes you get one from going viral on IG, sometimes you get one from climbing the ladder within the industry, it all depends. But the good news is, there's no surefire 100% way that you have to be obligated to stick to. It's okay if you try some things and they don't work, just as it's okay if you don't feel like doing things the way everyone else is telling you to. Just have fun, learn lots, and be open to putting yourself out there and trying new things! \( ̄︶ ̄*\))

Week 86 - 8/28/23 - A BLUE BEETLE MOVIE???
Hi there,
It probably isn't news as it's a pretty popular film in theaters right now, but there's a Blue Beetle movie out! And it's a lot of fun!
If you didn't know, Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, is my favorite superhero. There's a pretty good joke in the new movie about the difference between Ted and Batman, and not to step on the punchline, but it boils down to Ted knows how to laugh. He's a character frequently written to have a sense of humor, to know a good joke, and to be the dramatic superheroic straightman when it counts. He is not exactly an everyman--he's a genius, he dresses up in a silly costume, and he's rich--but in a lot of ways, he's just a guy trying to do the right thing because he can.
And he casts a long shadow over the new movie, which is about Jaime Reyes--fantastically played by the dreamy Xolo Maridueña--who I don't love quite as much as Ted, but who I think is himself a great and important character. He's a very different hero. He's got a sense of humor, he's got a good heart, but his relationship with his family, with his friends, with the scarab, and with the Blue Beetle legacy allows him to be something totally apart from Ted. The movie takes a lot of liberties--it's part Spider-Man, part Ant-Man, part Green Lantern (though... honestly probably better than the past few recent film adaptations of those characters)--but it doesn't run from the truth of who Jaime is as a character, which I think makes it all the better. The best superhero movie projects don't try to be just an adaptation, but to take what makes the hero great, understand it, and share it in a way that makes them more accessible and loom larger as a hero.
I don't want to spoil anything, but there was one extremely stupid part that made me tear up (out of just finally getting to see a thing on-screen and knowing there's some practical version of it out there and honestly, a little bit jealousy). If you see me, or want to reach out and ask about it, I'll gladly tell you.
But there's a Blue Beetle movie. And even though I saw it and really quite liked it... I kinda still can't believe it.
Next week: No blog on the website/newsletter! There is a Patreon post scheduled if you need your fix, going out to all backers at $5 or more a month! But I'm outta town and will see you when I return.
What I enjoyed this week: Blank Check (Podcast), Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Links (Video Game), Craig of the Creek (Cartoon), Honkai Star Rail (Video game), My Adventures with Superman (Cartoon), The Broken Room by Peter Clines (Book), Dumbing of Age (Webcomic), Solve This Murder (Podcast), The Venture Bros: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart (Movie--which my pal Phil Murphy worked on!), Kaiju No. 8 (Manga), Kaguya-Sama: Love is War (Manga), Blue Beetle (Movie--duh), Oldboy (Movie), Witch Watch (Manga), Becca playing a little more Persona 5, Tangled (Movie), Jurassic Park (Movie), D.E.B.S. (Movie)
New Releases this week (8/23/2023): Godzilla Monsters & Protectors: All Hail the King TPB (Editor--on the latter half)

New Releases next week (8/30/2023): Godzilla Rivals: Vs. SpaceGodzilla (Supervising Editor) Sonic the Hedgehog: Endless Summer (A very silly credit) Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island TPB (Editor)
Announcements: Becca is at Cartoon-a Palooza in Temecula on 9/15 & 9/16. It's a cool free all-ages little con, so come on out and see them!
Wanna support me? Consider joining my Patreon! I've got a bunch of cool stuff coming up and already on there. As well as some silly stuff like a tour of my desk, so you can see where the comics magic happens! I've got a bunch of stuff scheduled for September already and there'll always be more!
I have a webstore! It does look like I'm going to get a small supplement to my Beast Wars Vol. 3 stock, which is nice, but most everything else, I am not going to have more of anytime soon! Maybe give it a look!
I've still got a few things on my eBay, if you're looking for stuff! But obviously, anything that would get shipped out won't until I'm back!  Pic of the Week: It was National Cinema Day yesterday, which is why Becca and I went to Blue Beetle ($4 tickets to the movies!). But they had to work, so I went and saw a second film, the 20th anniversary screening of Park Chan-wook's Oldboy. And the theater that was showing Oldboy had a special Cinema Day deal on the Blue Beetle backback popcorn bucket, so I did pick it up because that with a popcorn and a drink was still significantly cheaper than the bucket usually is by itself. So here's a photo of Becca modeling it.
