Aww, you're too nice to me, thank you!!  I’ve mostly seen commentary in the same vein and I understand why, so many of us are sitting here like :| and braced for the worst interpretations, because Ahsoka’s character is often polarized and Jedi discussion is often polarized.  Pitting them against each other, probably leaves a lot of people not wanting to touch it with a ten foot pole. For me, I think I have to establish my view of Ahsoka’s character in the first place and where she’s at at this point in time:  She left the Jedi Order because she couldn’t trust herself or the Council, she needed time away to consider what she wanted and she wasn’t ready to really deal with all of that. Out of all of the Jedi, I think Ahsoka has the strongest reason to be angry and hurt about the war and the relationship the Jedi have with the Republic, because she was such a victim of the whole thing.  She was the one who Tarkin set his sights on, she was the one who was framed and put on trial, she was the one who had the bonds between herself and her family ripped apart because the weight of the entire government came down on them. Everyone made mistakes in that arc, everyone did what they thought was best.  No one was perfect in that arc--Ahsoka didn’t trust anyone and that mistrust isn’t what saved her, it was Anakin’s actions that saved her.  Ahsoka immediately didn’t trust anyone to help her, didn’t even try to contact them, was hurt that Anakin didn’t come to see her, even when he pointed out that would have made it worse for her.  And he’s right, but that doesn’t negate that she was left all alone.  The Jedi tried desperately to keep everything with Ahsoka in house, but their hands were forced, the other road would have been worse, but that doesn’t negate that she was left all alone. Obi-Wan says in the Crystal Crisis arc that they all made mistakes, that Ahsoka let her emotions cloud her judgement in her most critical moment, and I think that’s both spot on (that’s why she left, because she realized she couldn’t trust herself, that’s why she was so hesitant to help with Maul because she still wasn’t there yet) and informs much of what Obi-Wan sees with her.
Tumblr media
Ahsoka isn’t being fair in her treatment of Obi-Wan. She’s angry about what happened with Barriss, she’s angry about what happened with the Jedi, she’s angry about them being drawn into this war that hurt her so terribly on such a personal level, she’s angry that she feels obligated to work with the Jedi again when she’s not ready.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When you look at Ahsoka’s arguments, they tend to fall apart pretty quickly--she’s angry that the Jedi want to help the people on Coruscant?  The heart of the Republic?  Where trillions of people live?  Where Trace and Rafa live?  The two characters she just met who informed so much of what she wants to be as a Jedi?  Or how she entirely ignores that the Republic’s treaties with Mandalore mean that this is an invasion and politics have genuine consequences in Star Wars, you can’t just invade other countries!  And she’s being unfair about how she’s making it clear that she’s not a Jedi, she’s a citizen, but then turns around and wants to be privy to classified information that only Jedi agents should have. This isn’t to come down on Ahsoka, because these things make me like her more, these things make my heart ache for her, because I see her as a young woman who was thrown back into a situation she wasn’t ready for and she’s doing her absolute damnedest to be professional about it. But this is her family, these are the people she loves underneath it all, this is Anakin who so badly wants her to come back and is kind of stepping all over her boundaries--he even reworks her lightsabers to change the crystal’s color!  It’s such a sweet gesture!  But it’s also So Very Much before she’s ready for it.  It’s so clear that he thinks she’s coming back and everything will be like it was before and she’s just not sure, so she has to be the one to set down boundaries with him and that’s another thing that tears at her heart.
Tumblr media
That’s why I think she’s so gentle when Mace lobs the “Citizen.” remark back at her, because I don’t think she was angry about that, she doesn’t respond angrily at all, but almost relieved.  It’s a tense moment, but he’s holding her boundary for her, it’s a reminder that she’s not ready to be back yet and I think part of her might have been grateful for it, because she’s so mixed up about what she wants and who she is at this point. Then you have the scene with Obi-Wan and I think she probably was angry with him, both because he was on the Council and she’s still mad at them, but also because this is Obi-Wan and she knows him, she loves him, he’s tearing at her heart and making her want to come back and that’s more confusing feelings.  And he probably seems so calm and collected, all the more so when this is dealing with something that has deeply personal meaning for him because of Satine, while she feels jumbled up and unsteady.  Her emotions are still threatening to cloud her judgment, and then he’s there saying he’ll refuse to do so, and it’s hard not to feel a riot of emotions about that. But also she knows he cares, she trusts him with her message to Anakin, she doesn’t even have to spell it out, because she knows that Obi-Wan knows.  And I think some part of her treats Obi-Wan the way Anakin does--she’s being unfair with him because she knows he’s a rock that will weather her storm.  Even when they’re clashing, she trusts him to understand her and her feelings and where she’s coming from.  She trusts him to be there even when they fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Obi-Wan, he’s also having a really rough time of it because he’s got a real shitshow on his hands--he has everything with Satine’s memory here, he has a political shitstorm with the invasion of Mandalore they’re doing, he has Anakin’s unstable moods and Anakin emotionally zipping off to be like, “I knew!  I knew there was a reason why everything happened, it was meant to!” and undercurrent of mania, and he has his own guilt about what happened with Ahsoka, while also recognizing that the other roads probably would have been worse and that she’s allowed her upset feelings. I do think Obi-Wan is probably frustrated and disappointed with Ahsoka, because she’s coming from an emotional place in the sense of letting it cloud her view of the reality of the situation, and they can’t afford that right now.  And I think he’s frustrated that she’s not being fair about this, because what’s he supposed to do in response to her?  They’re in the middle of a war and this is why Jedi train their whole lives, because people’s lives are on the line, they have to be clear and focused or people will die.  They have to make hard choices because they’ve been put in a position of responsibility and wishing circumstances were less shitty doesn’t actually make the war any less shitty.  They still have to protect the trillion innocent people who live on Coruscant, they can’t just abandon them because it wouldn’t be the most popular decision. At the same time, he understands where she’s coming from, that she’s hurt about everything and she’s not ready for this and yet she still came to help anyway.  And I think he’s probably frustrated that she’s implying that he’s the one being obstinate and not helping, when the situation is nowhere near as clear-cut as Bo-Katan tries to say it is, he’s perfectly willing to compromise when offered an acceptable path to helping both Mandalore and Coruscant, after all. But also he loves her and he knows that she’s a caring, good person, he doesn’t even have to ask what her message to Anakin is, he knows.  He’s even willing to tell her about his concerns about Anakin and his mission to spy on Palpatine, he asks her to speak with Anakin, asks for her help, because he knows how important she is.
Tumblr media
I don’t think Obi-Wan was as open or reaching out as much as he theoretically could be, but like Ahsoka, he’s going through A Lot right now and has a ton on his plate and none of them are really ready to deal with that while everything is still in flames around them.  But it’s also why they end on soft notes with each other, because they know that they’re both important to Anakin, that Anakin is important to both of them, that the Jedi are important to both of them, that they’re important to each other. And boy does it hurt that neither of them can see what’s coming with Anakin, that they’re both unable to see that he’s on the verge of falling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that’s how people who love each other are. That’s how family is with each other--they get frustrated and upset and needle each other and disappointed in each other because they love each other. And I think you see that all throughout Obi-Wan and Ahsoka’s scenes, they’re both characters who have made mistakes and aren’t at their calmest here, they’re tense with each other, but it’s coming from a place of deep caring about everyone in that room.
Tumblr media
I think they both acted the way they did because they thought they would have time to sort it out, they trusted that their family would be there when they had that time. Ahsoka puts off catching up with Anakin because she’s not ready yet and there’ll be time later. Ahsoka and Obi-Wan needle each other because they’re frustrated and there’ll be time to come back together later. Ahsoka says softly, “Not yet.” when Yoda asks if she’s going to be a Jedi again, she looks so hopeful when talking to Rex about the end of the war and she can come back to the Jedi in a way she trusts, she really thought there would be more time. Obi-Wan says they’re close to the end of the war, he’s off to defeat Grievous finally, this was supposed to be the end, there would be time for the slow, long repair of their relationships. They act the way they do because they weren’t ready to let everything go just yet, not because they didn’t care.  They thought there would be more time.

modern!anakin skywalker x reader- serein
Tumblr media
description: highschool au! in your senior year of highschool, you were paired with anakin skywalker, the “schools weirdo” for the end of year project. in this little time before the project is due, you get to know him and come to a deep realization.
warnings: some emotional abuse, drinking, cigarettes, obi-wan is very out of character.
part 1
•••
Hearing the horn beep outside, you looked over yourself in the mirror one more time before grabbing your bag. Winter break was over and it was time for your last semester of senior year. It was still cold out but your boyfriend insisted on the short skirt you were wearing.
Walking downstairs, you seen both of your parents as they were getting ready to leave for work. Your father worked at a construction sight as the building manager, and your mom worked as a nurse at the local hospital. They strived to make sure you and your younger brother lived a nice life, at whatever cost, but also made sure that you knew what it took for them to make it this far. You were taught to treat the CEO with the same respect you treat the janitor with.
Your mom walked to you, a big smile on her face as she landed a kiss on your cheek. “Have a great day back, only 5 months left.” Nodding, you bid them both a good day, grabbed an apple and walked to your boyfriend’s car parked on the street. “Put a jacket on!”
Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Ben because Obi-Wan was “too lame”, had been your boyfriend for a little over two years now. He was the quarterback for your high school, leading them to many championships. He was the most popular guy in the school. You only got close when you did track in freshman year, him noticing you for the first time. Over a year later, he asked you out and the rest has been history. “Hey baby.”
He gripped the side of your neck, pulling you close in and attacking your lips. You responded but quickly pulled back once he let go. “Don’t you look good today.” You smiled, looking out the window.
Another thing about Ben, he’s a total jerk. It didn’t become this bad until he was given the title of leading quarterback in his sophomore year. Though he’s always been spoiled. His dad was the CEO of a major computer company, which raked in more money than you can imagine. His mom stayed home and raised the kids though didn’t clean because they had maids. His younger siblings were the same way.
The ride to school was filled with him talking about all of the scholarships coming his way, how his coach made him angry, and the rap music blaring through his speakers. The most consistent thing you heard was his phone going off every few minutes with a new notification, from his “friends”.
Pulling into a parking spot, you both got out of the car, his friends already crowding around. They were mostly football players, their girlfriends latched to their arms. You smiled at them only to have them roll their eyes, continuing to rub on their mans and eye up Ben. It’s always been like this. Before you met Ben, you weren’t popular, you really don’t like to consider yourself that now. It was leggings and a hoodie or T-shirt everyday. Ben changed your entire wardrobe. Crop tops, short skirts and short, heels and all kinds of makeup. You didn’t wear everything he wanted you to, but just enough to keep him happy.
Ben walked over and grabbed your hand, pulling you with him inside. He was talking about his schedule when a shiver when down your spine. Turning your head, you seen Anakin Skywalker, someone who Ben calls an “emo bitch” standing at the school entrance. He was looking your way, casting his eyes down when you looked back. “Y/n, are you listening? What’s your first class?”
Snapping out of your daze, you looked at your paper. “Um, I’m sorry, science.” He cursed, looking at his own paper.
“Mine is history. Let me see your paper.” He snatched it from your hands as you looked back, watching Anakin walk past you with his friends. He met your eyes again, holding the stare this time before his friends pulled him away. “Damn, we barely have any classes together. I guess I can get some of the guys to keep an eye on you.”
That snapped you back. “Keep an eye on me?”
He smirked. “You know, making sure no one is eyeing you like you’re theirs. Keep ya safe.” Rolling your eyes, you took your paper back. The bell rang and he pulled you in for another kiss. “See ya later, babe.”
Sighing, you walked to the science class, putting a little pep in your step when the second bell rang. Walking in at the last minute, you looked around to find an empty table. Walking to one closer in the back, you set your stuff on the floor and sat down. The teacher hadn’t walked in yet but someone did.
Anakin Skywalker looked out of breath as he looked around. You heard some giggles and laughing, causing you to notice some of Ben’s friends in here. Watching Anakin roll his eyes, you both realized that your table was the only one that could fit another person. Walking back to it, he dropped his bag and sat in the chair beside you. You slightly side eyed him but looked forward as the teacher walked in.
“Good morning class, my name is Mr.Smith and I will be your anatomy teacher. I know some of you are seniors, so you need this class to graduate.” Some of the guys cheered when he said seniors, something that made him roll his eyes. “Anyways, I’m gonna get this syllabus passed around so make sure to look over it and bring it back signed.”
The papers were passed back to Anakin and he grabbed two, sliding one your way. You gave him a small smile but he looked away before seeing it. Looking at the syllabus, you noticed the same thing everyone else did. “Wait, we don’t get to change partners?”
The teacher laughed and shook his head. “Nope, the person sitting next to you will be your partner for the semester. All of your labs and study time will be done with them. Your end of the year project will also be done with them. Which, if you look at your table number and the back of the page, that’ll tell you what project you have.”
Turning the page, you see a list of diseases with a number next to them. Your table was number 9, so your disease was Alzheimer’s. “The project will be to make a presentation about your disease and which part of the body it attacks and how it usually ends. It’ll be due two weeks before school lets out. You can start whenever, but I don’t take late work.” Looking at his watch, he sat at his desk with a smile. “Take the rest of class to get acquainted!”
Everyone started talking amongst themselves as you turned to look at Anakin. He was writing small doodles on his syllabus paper, seeming completely tuned out. “Those are cute.” He stopped, slightly looking at you and sitting up straight. “I’m Y/n L/n.”
He looked at your outstretched hand, eventually shaking it and nodding. “Anakin.”
“Did you understand everything about the project?”
He nodded again, looking back down at it. Sighing, you turned back in your seat, looking at your own paper. You could hear laughter again, as well as ‘loser’ and other things being mumbled. Looking back at Anakin, you finally took in his features. His ears were littered with piercings, as well as one around his lip. His hair was dark, pitch black and it looked like he put dark eyeliner around his eyes. He glanced back behind him before scoffing. “I’m sorry about them.”
He fully turned his head to look at you, holding eye contact. “They’re your friends, aren’t they?”
Turning your nose up in disgust, you shook your head. “Far from it.” He slightly smiled at that before going back to his paper. The rest of the time was quiet before the bell finally rang. He quickly grabbed his stuff and was the first one out the door.
Grabbing your bags, you seen Ben in the hall, surrounded by other girls. He was laughing and cutting up with them until he seen you, breaking away. “Hey baby! How was it?” You told him about the class as you both walked to your next class together. He stopped once you were done talking. “Anakin Skywalker is your lab partner? You’re gonna have to get that changed babe.”
“Why? He doesn’t really talk and he just stays to himself.”
“He’s a freak, like literally. You don’t need to be around that and I won’t allow it.” Breaking away from his hold, you raised a brow at him.
“Well I think it’ll be fine, Obi. It’s just a project.” Sighing, he shrugged his shoulders.
The rest of the day went by in a blur, all the way up until you and Obi were walking to his car. Looking across the parking lot, you spotted Anakin unlocking his door. Telling Obi you’d be right back, who was laughing with his friends anyways, you jogged over to Anakin, yelling his name.
He looked back at you, raising a brow at your smile. “Hey, can I get your number?” Raising both of his brows, you laughed. “We’re gonna be working on the project all semester, it’ll probably be best to get each others contact information.” Handing him your phone, he reluctantly took it, typing his phone number in. Handing it back, you took it with a smile and sent a text to his phone. “Cool, just text me with any ideas, see you tomorrow!”
You walked back to Obi, Anakin staring after you while Obi-Wan glared at him. All Anakin did was smirk and get in his car, driving off. “What was that about?”
You smiled at Obi, getting into the car. “Just needed his number for the project.”
Rolling his eyes, Ben took off to your house.
That night, after showering and getting into bed, your phone went off. Opening it up, you smiled seeing Anakin’s name. It was a link to a website with all kinds of facts and research on Alzheimer’s. Taking out your notebook, you began to write some of the facts down, creating thought bubbles and everything for the project.
The next day went about the same. Ben picked you up, ditched you mainly for his friends. You didn’t care too much today, wanting to get to class and go over some things with Anakin. As you were walking away, Ben caught up to you. “Hey babe, you’re in a rush today.” He laughed but you could see the confusion.
“I just want to get to class, love you.” Pecking his cheek, you entered the science class and took your seat. Ben stood at the door, trying to comprehend what happened.
Anakin walked in moments later, and you still had about 5 minutes before the bell rang. You smiled when he sat down and turned to look at him, taking your notebook out. “So I wrote all of this down from the link you sent me and I just wanted your thoughts.”
You never texted Anakin back last night but now he understood why. A tiny smile came upon his face as he looked over the details you wrote down, your little thought bubbles everywhere. It was cute.
“This is a good start, I like this.” Smiling big, you nodded, loving that he was talking more today.
“Cool, I was also thinking maybe we do a tri fold poster, since we have to showcase it and all.” He nodded, his smile becoming a little bigger.
The next few weeks would go on about the same. Anakin would open up a little more, day by day. You both would text more, not just about the project. You learned a lot about him in the past few weeks. He had his own band and they would perform at bars on the weekends. He only lived with his mother, his dad went awol. He loves space and he has a couple of animals.
Looking over your outfit, you smiled in the mirror. It was Saturday, yours and Ben’s date night. You’ve had one every Saturday night since you began dating. It was a time to not talk about school or football, just eachother.
Hearing your phone go off, you unlocked it and smiled seeing Anakins name.
‘Hey, are you busy tonight?’
Right as you began typing that you were, another message came through from Ben. Opening that one up, you smile dropped seeing his message.
‘Hey babe, we’re gonna have to skip date night tonight, Tyler is throwing a huge party since his parents are gone. I’ll pick you up in 30.’
Sitting on the bed, you stared at the phone in disbelief. Ditching our date, for a party? You didn’t like his friends and they didn’t like you. You honestly hated to be around them, especially outside of school. They were loud and just annoying. Hearing another text come through, you lift your phone up.
‘If you’re not, I was gonna invite you to see my band play tonight. It’s free to get in and they have other drinks instead of alcohol. I’d love for you to come. Here’s the address’
Jumping up, you got out of your short blue skirt and white crop top. Pulling some leggings and a AC/DC shirt on, you threw a zip up jacket over it and slid your shoes on. You didn’t have on any makeup except mascara and you put your hair in a ponytail. You grabbed your bag, sending one last text before putting your phone away.
‘I’m actually not feeling well, I hope you have fun, love you’
Anakin knew it was a dumb idea to invite you. You probably had plans with your popular boyfriend, he rolled his eyes at the thought. What made him feel worse was double texting you. “Hey Ani, we’re about to be up.” Nodding he grabbed his guitar and walked onto the stage.
You walked into the bar, seeing some people sitting at tables, other shooting pool or darts. Seeing an empty table, you sat down, waiting for Anakin to walk out. A waitress walked to your table and you ordered a water. You watched the curtain open, Anakin front and center as the lead singer. His eyes darted around the room, widening when he seen you. You smiled and waved, a small smile coming over his face.
He introduced his band and they began to play some songs. Some were their own but some were covers that they did well. You were so mesmerized, watching him sing and play, that you completely forgot your water. You could tell he had a passion for music.
Finishing up the last song, he thanked everyone and went off the stage. You stood up as he came around, smiling at you. “You made it.”
Wrapping your arms around his neck, he paused for a second before hugging you back. He was just so happy you were here. Pulling back, you gave him a big smile. “You did so good! I loved it.”
You both sat down as another band went on to preform. Eating some food, you two went on to have a conversation about any and everything. You both were out of your element and it just felt right. Around 12, you both decided it was time to go home.
You walked outside, trying to call your dad to come get you. “Everything okay?”
Looking over at Anakin, you nodded. “My dad dropped me off, I think he went back home and fell asleep. I might have to walk…”
“Come on, I’ll give you a ride.”
“Oh, Anakin no, I really couldn’t ask you to do that-“
“And I’m not letting you walk home, let’s go.”
Shyly smiling, you walked to his car, him opening the passenger door for you. Shutting the door, he got in the driver side and started driving. You picked up the conversation while giving directions. “So, I’m surprised your boyfriend wasn’t over your shoulder the whole time you were here.”
Huffing out a laugh at his comment, you shrugged. “He doesn’t know I was here.” He looked at you with his brows raised. “Tonight was supposed to be our date night, we have one every Saturday. As I was going to text you back and let you know, he texted me and said he was picking me up for his friends party. I told him I didn’t feel well and came here.”
Slowly nodding, he came to a stop in front of your house, putting his car in park. “I’m sorry.” Giving him a look of confusion, he continued. “I’m sorry you’re with someone that doesn’t respect and cherish you.”
Taken aback, you opened your mouth only for nothing to come out. Taking a deep breath, you shook your head. “Obi cares, and he’s a great guy. You don’t know him-“
“No you don’t. There’s a lot of things you don’t see, at school or even on the streets. He’s not a good guy-“
“Obi is a good guy.” He leaned back in his seat as you cut him off. Sighing, you grabbed your bag, trying to get out. “Thanks for the ride.”
The door handle would open, causing Anakin to take initiative and reach over you to help. He made eye contact as a blush slightly took over when you realized how close you were. Hearing the door open, you quickly got out and ran inside.
Anakin watched and made your door closed before letting out an aggravated sigh. Hitting the wheel, he cursed and shook his head. “Good guy my ass.”

Bloody Skywalker | Pt. 1 | Anakin x Reader
Summary: Obi-Wan knew that putting two young people together would result in too many emotions to handle, yet he just stood there and watched it all unfold for years. The most interesting things, however, are happening right where he can’t see the bloody Skywalker.
Content: Anakin x Female!Padawan!reader, jealousy angst, bits of fluff, Padme hate club, no mature content (yet 😏)

Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Tumblr media
A set of memories - and she was in all of them, making it impossible for Anakin to fall asleep. He was staring into the dark ceiling before eventually drifting off to the land of memories, one he hadn't been able to escape for some time, one that protected him from the reality he'd been feeling uneasy in...
As he turned away from Padme sleeping at his side, the first memory clouded his head, the oldest one he had of someone else.
It was a very warm day years ago, one that reminded him of his life on Tatooine. He was walking through the Jedi temple with Obi-Wan, who was slowly explaining their upcoming mission to him, and nothing was out of the ordinary - that's why Anakin had no reasons to even suspect he was about to meet someone who would impact his life so much.
A young girl they almost bumped into after turning a corner.
"Oh, right, the two of you haven't met before," said Obi-Wan, immediately recognising her. "Anakin, meet Y/N, Grand Master Yoda's new Padawan."
"I didn't know Master Yoda had Padawans," said Anakin to Kenobi's apparent disappointment.
"Anakin..." He sighed heavily, covering his face with his hand and the girl just giggled, making the boy laugh, too.
"Pleasure to meet you, Anakin," she said confidently as they exchanged a greeting. "I've heard a lot about you from your master."
"Oh, have you? Wonder what that was..."
Kenobi just shook his head as Anakin took a moment to take her in. Y/N had to be around his age and, overall, looked quite pretty, even if the Jedi robe wasn't exactly the most outstanding fashion piece.
"Where are you from?" Anakin asked curiously.
"I'm from Nab..."
"Now, as nice as it is," Obi-Wan interjected, "Anakin and I have to excuse ourselves, Y/N. They are expecting us. You two will have plenty of time to get to know each other."
"Oh, yes, I see." She bowed her head slightly. "So until the next time, Anakin."
And they got to meet again just a week later, again in the Jedi temple. She was training with Yoda himself, trying to deflect each and every one of the swings of his lightsaber, which wasn't easy in spite of her being much taller than him. Anakin watched all of this in awe, and even after years he remembered how impressed he was, how he wondered if he were better.
Eventually, Yoda knocked Y/N's blue lightsaber out of her hand, and she fell to her knees, having completely lost balance.
"I'm sorry for failing again, Master," she said with her head hung low while breathing heavily, unable to look him in the eye. Yoda didn't seem to be angry nor disappointed - on the contrary, he hid his weapon with the faintest smile.
"Do not worry, still learning you are," he told her loudly.
"See, Anakin?" Obi-Wan turned to his Padawan. "That's what I've been telling you, too."
Yoda turned towards the unexpected guests as if he had just spotted them. Obi-Wan and Anakin moved closer as he spoke to them:
"Oh! Fight together the two of you should." He pointed at Anakin. "Your skills checking you should try."
Y/N raised her head in surprise, then used the Force to bring her lightsaber back into her hand.
"Excellent idea," said Obi-Wan as she stood up to meet them. "It will be good training for both of you."
Y/N, who was already standing next to the three of them, exchanged looks with Anakin.
"Shall we?" he asked with a small smile, one she had already come to like. Hell, the guy was handsome, and she didn't need to know him well to see that.
"Alright then," she replied, and even though she was still tired from her battle with Yoda, she was eager to find out how Anakin fought, to find out more about him.
"Anakin," Obi-Wan called him, and the boy turned to him one last time. "Be gentle, just gentle," he mouthed.
"Oh, I heard that, Master," Y/N said, clearly offended. "He doesn't have to. I can handle it."
"It has nothing to do with you, Y/N. You just don't know him yet," Obi-Wan explained, causing Anakin to chuckle. Y/N didn't even know she was about to find out her opponent wasn't aggressive - but just pure chaos.
"Leave them to themselves we shall," Yoda said to Kenobi, nodding wisely. "Not always their Masters by their side they will have."
Obi-Wan was a little afraid of doing that, knowing what Anakin could do, but he nodded eventually, not intending to disobey Yoda's ideas.
The Masters left, and before their Padawans knew it, they were fighting with each other, lightsaber to lightsaber, although neither of them was really trying to hurt the other. They both wanted to talk; and why not use the 'fight' for that?
"So you didn't tell me and I ask again," he said in between the swings of his lightsaber as if it was nothing, "where are you from?"
For a moment, she didn't speak, concentrating on deflecting his blows, until eventually she found time to focus on talking as well.
"Naboo, you?"
"Tatooine," he replied, barely avoiding the swing above his head.
"The sand one, isn't it?" she asked as he retaliated, almost poking his lightsaber through her hand. Anakin found time to nod in between his swift moves, then clashed his lightsaber with hers.
"I hate sand, though," he said, and this was when Y/N was lost. She stopped in her tracks for a second, and Anakin seized the opportunity to knock her weapon out of her hand, but she didn't seem to care - instead, she began laughing hysterically. Anakin lowered his lightsaber and watched her in confusion.
"I'm sorry, I..." She couldn't utter a word between her giggles. "This was the funniest thing I've ever heard. I can't." She kept on laughing, almost becoming out of breath in the process.
"Does that mean I win?" he asked with a grin.
"Yes, you can have it." She said between her chuckles. "Let's say you won verbally..."
"I don't know why it's so funny, but if I win, then I'm not going to argue." He shrugged and she just shook her head.
"I don't even know what's got into me." She was breathing heavily while using the Force to retrieve her lightsaber again. "One way or another... It's nice getting to know you. Maybe we should continue our conversation during dinner?"
Anakin agreed eagerly, feeling famished. He didn't notice it, but during that dinner it was sometimes difficult for her to look him in the eye - he was astonishingly handsome from up close, and it really made her act like an embarrassed teen. But they were both still young, so she hoped it could be somehow forgiven... And she hoped Anakin didn't see her as a silly girl who couldn't handle talking to a good-looking guy.
He didn't. He came to like her quickly, too, and they had much to talk about, including gossiping about their respectful masters. This was when he found out she was an orphan and used to work as a herbalist on Naboo, and how Yoda found her and offered to train her after he sensed she could use the Force. She admitted that the Jedi order was the first group of people that felt like family to her, especially because she had never met her parents. He, too, revealed his past to her, and how he missed his mother. This touched Y/N; she really appreciated the fact he opened up to her, what made her like much more than just his face.
"May the Force be with you, Anakin," Y/N told him as they parted that day, smiling to him sincerely. The long conversation they had made her think he was a truly interesting person, even if he acted a bit silly at times.
"You too... Y/N," Anakin replied, cracking a smile, too.
A few years have passed, but he still remembered that day very well, because it was the beginning of their friendship, one that lately was becoming more and more difficult. Now that he was laying in his bed, unable to sleep beacuse of nightmares that had been haunting him constantly for days, he tried to think of all these good moments just to feel better. Padme didn't understand him; at least that's what he thought. She wasn't Force sensitive, she had no idea what he was going through...
Padme was another matter that made things harder between him and Y/N. He remembered that day from a few months before when she saw them together for the first time. Anakin was terrified, but it was nothing compared to what Y/N was feeling.
It was the day her heart shattered completely. She had been falling for him for months - but how could she not when he was young and bright, when they had so much to talk about, when he looked the way he looked...? Of course, she tried to restrain herself, because the Jedi order didn't allow any attachments - but when she saw him with another girl, it became clear to her she wasn't able to let it go.
Her self-confidence dropped significantly after that, too. It was obvious Anakin would be more interested in someone like Padme - coming from Naboo, of course Y/N knew who she was... But Anakin had no idea what was going through her mind.
"Are you going to report it?" he asked her that day, and it pierced her heart. Talking to him after what she'd seen was agony.
One part of her wanted it, the selfishness provoked by hurt wanted her to run to Kenobi and tell him everything, make them split up or make Anakin leave the Jedi... But she couldn't do that to him, not when she loved him.
"No," she replied in a shaky voice. "Love doesn't choose, does it?" she added since she knew better than anyone that it did not, in fact, choose. If it did, she would never choose to fall for that bloody Skywalker.
"Thank you," he breathed out and she just nodded, unable to look into his eyes.
"But if I were you, I would be more careful. Especially around your Master," she muttered, then turned on her heel to leave, knowing she couldn't talk to him anymore.
Things got worse from then on. Anakin noticed that she was trying to distance herself from him, and thought it was because he was defying the Jedi code. He had no idea it was purely because she was hopelessly trying to lose feelings for him.
It was a burden, one that was getting worse and worse, especially when their Masters made them work together. Y/N tried to remain professional, tried not to look at him too much, tried to forget about him while he was oblivious to her tortures. And every time they parted, she thought about him going back to Padme, risking his position for her...
Anakin had no idea it became too much for Y/N a mere week ago. She had to at least talk about it to someone, having been suffocating for months, and she needed advice. Too afraid to confess everything to her own Master, she decided to turn to someone who knew Anakin best - and it was Obi-Wan.
It was a calm, warm evening when she found herself in front of Kenobi's quarters, then raised her hand shakily to knock. She sensed he was there, yet still had the slightest hope he wouldn't answer. Maybe it was a stupid idea to come to him after all...?
Eventually and inevitably, the door opened, revealing a surprised man who was apparently preparing for bed.
"Oh, Y/N," said Obi-Wan, clearly shocked by whom he saw.
"Master Obi-Wan, I'm sorry for disturbing you," she murmured quickly, "but can I talk to you?"
"Well, uh, yes, of course," he replied, trying to act as if he was completely composed and ready to act. "Did something happen?"
"I have a problem and..." She heaved a sigh, lowering her head. "I'm afraid to talk to Master Yoda about it."
This was when Obi-Wan immediately became more serious and moved aside to let her into his room.
"Come on in, then."
Before she knew it, she was sitting on his bed in a dimly lit room while he was standing in front of her with a concerned frown. She was already regretting coming to him, but the damage had been done.
"So what is it?" he asked, making her sigh again.
Now or never.
"I... I have fallen in love."
Obi-Wan closed his eyes as if bracing for impact. He expected something else... But now he understood why she was so nervous, and how hard it will be to help her.
"I know, I know, I know I must not," she said quickly, having noticed his expression. "That's why I'm here, asking you how to cope with it."
This was the man's turn to sigh. He crossed his arms on his chest and leaned against the wall, knowing how hard of a conversation it will be. He wasn't surprised she didn't want to talk to Yoda about it.
"I'm much older than you and I still haven't found the solution, you know?" He ran his hand through his hair. "It's as hard as it gets, I'm afraid..."
Y/N nodded, hugging her arms to herself. If even Kenobi couldn't handle it... Then how could she?
"Maybe I should leave the order. I cannot be a good Jedi if I..."
"Hey, don't say that." Obi-Wan immediately plopped down next to her to somehow have control of what she was doing. "You have the Force with you, you have the talent, Master Yoda wouldn't want to teach you if you didn't..."
"But what good can I be if I can't control my emotions?" she interjected, feeling completely helpless. "It's been months. And I can't let go, even though I tried."
"Listen, falling in love in itself isn't a sin..." he began, wondering how to begin. "It just depends on what you do with it."
"It's hard to control it if I see him almost every day," she whispered and then clasped a hand over her mouth as realisation took over.
At that point, Obi-Wan had to ask the question that was on his mind ever since she confessed her problem.
"It's Anakin, isn't it?"
"Don't ask me that question."
Of course it was him. Kenobi was afraid it would come to this - but could he blame her? Many times he thought putting two young people together would result in too many emotions to handle, yet he just stood there and watched it all unfold for years. If it weren't for the code, he would give these two his own blessing; his heart rose when they laughed with each other just to become serious the moment they needed to focus on the mission, and just how young, beautiful and blissful they looked together...
"I hate these rules," she said eventually, shaking her head.
"I sometimes do, too," Obi-Wan admitted. "But it's not the end of the world, Y/N, trust me."
"I will not disturb you any further." She stood up quickly, then rushed towards the door. "I have to go and... Reconsider my place here."
"Y/N, look at me." Obi-Wan grabbed her shoulder to turn her towards him. "I know it's hard, but you'll get through this. And I will help you if you want. Just... Don't make any impulsive decisions, alright? We can't lose people like you from the Jedi."
"I... I promise I'll think about it," she replied eventually, then left, now even more puzzled than before meeting Kenobi.
Now, a week later, Anakin still had no idea. He also had no idea what he was about to do to Y/N as he slid off his bed. He knew it was no use trying to fall asleep again; he had to talk to her and regain what they had. He threw on a robe to cover his bare chest, then, without even glancing at sleeping Padme, left the room as if in trance.
Y/N's temporary bedroom was just several corridors away. Anakin felt a bit weird about going to meet her; they haven't spoken for a few days, maybe even more if you excluded some forced dialogue, and it really upset him. He couldn't know, however, it was her trying to let go of him again.
She was fast asleep until she suddenly felt a shiver come down her spine. She thought it was a nightmare overtaking her body, but she quickly realised it was the Force, notifying her someone close to her was near.
No, why am I sensing him again... I'm losing my mind.
However, it didn't take much before she realised it wasn't a dream. Knocking on her bedroom's door was pretty much real, and she stirred awake. It was all so sudden that she didn't even think about it - scared that there might be an emergency, she jumped out of her bed just in her nightgown.
She sensed who was standing on the other side of the door - and yet, she didn't want to believe it. She opened before she could hesitate any further, and her mouth fell open.
It was him. Bloody Skywalker.
"Anakin? What are you doing here?" she asked sleepily, suddenly feeling very conscious that he could ogle her exposed shoulders and collarbone, even if there was only some city lights getting inside through the window, so neither of them saw too much. He was in a robe, his longish hair ruffled, and it seemed like he had just left bed, too. Y/N looked behind him, as if looking for any signs of commotion, but everything seemed perfectly peaceful. So why would he come to her in the middle of the night?
"Can we... Talk?" he asked quietly, then gulped, making her imagine the worst possible scenarios.
"Is it something bad?"
"No... Yes?" He looked up at her. "I'm not sure."
Y/N sighed. Although she's been trying to avoid him, she knew it would be impossible for her to refuse him. Especially not when he stood there, looking like this, and the night protected them both.
"Maybe that's not how I should've started," he added after a moment, having seen her uncertain expression. "I know you're avoiding me. Even though... I don't know why. Did I do something to you?"
Why did he have to ask that?
Y/N just stepped aside, giving him clear permission to enter - so he did, but he was still waiting for her answer, glancing at her hopefully. He hated the atmosphere between them now and was determined to change it.
Y/N closed the door, then leaned against it as if for support and crossed her arms. She had to answer; after all, it was her who began distancing herself, and they've been growing apart ever since she found out about Padme.
"It's not about you, Anakin," she muttered eventually, her gaze focused on anything but him.
"What do you mean?"
"It's not your fault that I'm avoiding you," she whispered, afraid that if she said that any louder her voice would crack and she would become a mess of a person.
"Then what happened?" he asked with pure concern. "I miss it when we... When we just spent time together. And laughed and... Don't you remember when we used to race in ships and Obi-Wan said you couldn't leave us alone for a minute?"
She couldn't bear it. Her heart was aching while she listened to all of that - she missed it all, too, of course she did, but...
"Anakin, just tell me why you came here," she said much more aggressively than she had intended, hoping to just get this over with.
He hesitated, but then took a deep breath before sitting on her bed. He immediately looked at her for approval - something he never needed before - but she just kept on staring at the floor. That's why he decided it would be best to just talk.
"I've been feeling so uneasy lately. For days now. And with Padme, I feel like she doesn't understand a word I'm saying, we've become... Different, somehow."
"Why are you telling me this?" She looked at him for the first time, now more woken up than ever. "Why don't you talk to her about it?"
"I tried. But as I said... She doesn't understand the Force. I see it clearer and clearer every day." He sighed and raised his head, hoping to look into her eyes. "And I know you understand me, Y/N. I've always told you that."
Anakin could see something was breaking inside her. Her expression was changing from somehow offended to sad, heartbroken even, and it hurt him to see her like this, too. She felt as if her heart was a knot which could not be undone unless Anakin did it.
"And most of all... I wish we could be close again," he admitted in a whisper.
This was her last straw. Tears appeared in her eyes as she immediately covered her face to hide from him, even if it was pointless in the small, dark room they were in.
Anakin stood up to stand next to her. "Hey, what's happening?"
"You have your nightmares and I have my own nightmares, too," she admitted eventually, having no more strength to keep it in. "I've fallen in love as well."
She looked at him with glistening eyes. It was as though she could hear blood boiling in all of her veins as she realised what she had said. It was a nightmare and a bliss at the same time, because even if she didn't admit whom she loved, at least half of the burden was off of her.
"Oh," Anakin blurted out.
Shock took over him, and some unpleasant feelings, too. He didn't know why he didn't like that information or why it affected his body in a negative way, but he got a knot of his own, right in his stomach.
"He doesn't know, though," she continued as if she wasn't talking to the very man she had fallen for. "And he won't. But... I recently talked to Obi-Wan about leaving the Order."
This completely shattered Anakin.
"No!" he yelled immediately and grabbed her wrists, causing his robe to move and expose some of his chest. "I mean, you can't do that, you're a great Jedi, you..."
"A Jedi who can't control her emotions." She inhaled sharply, trying not to focus on his hands being on her. "You know something about it, too. I suppose you were right... I do understand you." She looked him in the eye and regretted it immediately, thinking she might melt from the inside.
It's been a while since she saw him like this. These bright eyes she liked so much, ones she loved to see light up when he laughed. Moreover, standing so close to him had never been so hard. She wanted to touch him, hug him, let him collapse into her arms or the other way around, do anything she could to help him, hell, she would even let him stay in her room if it weren't for so many obstacles.
"Don't leave. Please," he whispered and she shivered. Hearing this from him made all the difference.
"But I hate these rules. The people here may be like my family, but on the other hand, I want to live, too. Besides, don't you want to leave, too? For Padme?"
Mentioning Padme worked like a spell. He snapped out of everything and eventually let go of Y/N's wrists, having realised he was still holding them. At that moment, Padme seemed completely unimportant, almost like a stranger...
"That is... Another problem."
"What?"
"It's not only about the Force. Padme questions most of my decisions lately. And I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, I just..."
"What?" Y/N repeated, raising an eyebrow. "You've been, if anything, completely calm lately. That's very unlike you, if you ask me."
"I think so too. See? You do understand me."
Y/N took a deep breath and finally found a moment to compose herself. She wiped her tears and coughed.
"I suppose you're right... We've known each other for years now... Trainings, missions..." she confirmed, this time trying not to stare at his chest which was showing from underneath his robe.
"So about us... Will we be okay?"
She wanted them to be okay, more than anything. But at the same time, what good was it for if it would make her fall for him harder?
She looked into his eyes again.
"I don't hate you, Anakin, I hope you know this. I could never hate you." She took another deep breath.. "It's just... I'm going through some things, too. But if you're feeling unwell, you can always talk to me. You should try and sleep for now, sleepless nights won't help you. And maybe... Try resolving things with Padme, and if it doesn't work, then maybe this is just... Not it."
She couldn't believe she added that last sentence, but Anakin didn't bat an eye. Warmth filled up his body, because in spite of what she said earlier, he could hear sincere concern in her voice. She always cared for him, even when he had stupid ideas or injuries he basically asked for...
"Thank you. I will," he said eventually. "But more than anything, I hope we will... Reconcile."
After that, he left eventually, somehow hurt, somehow uneasy. The moment the door closed behind him, Y/N fell onto her bed to cry into the mattress.
There was no way out.
Now, more than ever, she understood why the Jedi Order disapproved of attachments - because that's what they led to...
Days passed, and Y/N still kept her distance, although it wasn't possible to forget that late night conversation with him. It made things even more awkward than before, because what did that talk change? She was still in love with him, he was still with Padme, and they both still had to obey the Jedi code.
Obi-Wan also sensed the tension, especially now that he knew her secret. He didn't tell a soul, but observed her quietly and tried to help, oblivious to the fact that he would worsen things. He called Anakin and Y/N to himself, intending to give them a mission - and a chance to sort things out. There was just one tiny detail...
"Y/N, while Master Yoda is busy, he allowed me to take care of you," Obi-Wan said, and it put Y/N's heart at ease. Yoda has been absent for a few days now and she couldn't do much.
"Of course." She bowed her head, standing next to Anakin but not daring to touch him in any way. He kept on glancing at her, hopeful for any kind of sign that they were alright.
"And it so happens I have a task for both of you," Obi-Wan continued, "you have to escort Senator Amidala to the Senate."
Y/N closed her eyes, then gritted her teeth to prevent crying or any other reactions, really. Obi-Wan thought Padme would be a good catalyst between the two Padawans, unaware of her relationship with Anakin... Unaware it will be torture for Y/N.
Anakin didn't look too happy, either. He sighed quietly, only hoping Y/N will keep her promise of silence.
"Is it okay with you?" he asked as they walked together towards the aircraft. "I can do this alone if you..."
"I'm a Jedi knight just like you," she cut him off, "I can handle it no problem," she claimed, although there was already something swirling in her chest and stomach.
Jealousy. Jealousy she couldn't restrain.
"Alright, alright..." Anakin said, and he could sense the subject was sensitive for her.
This was the first time he thought... Maybe Padme was the real problem between the two of them? And if so... Was he to choose between them?
"If anything, it's you who should try to remain professional," she added with venom, one that she didn't even know she had in herself.
"I will, I will," he assured her.
A few minutes later they were by the ship where Padme was already waiting for them. She smiled at Anakin, but her expression changed quickly when she noticed he wasn't alone. Y/N didn't blame her - she wasn't exactly happy to see her, either.
"Good day to you, Senator Amidala," she said politely despite her feelings and got an equally polite response. Having entered the small aircraft, Anakin and Y/N looked at the pilot's seat at the same time, then at each other, as if competing.
"You take it," she said quickly, bowing slightly as though she was offering the seat to him. She hoped that if he had to focus on flying, he wouldn't even have time to look at Padme. It was selfish, but also a life-saver for Y/N.
"I was always the better flyer, wasn't I?" Anakin grinned as he took the seat, causing her to roll her eyes.
"Don't get too cocky. I just want you to do all the work while I relax," Y/N replied as she sat down behind him, causing Padme, seated next to her, to chuckle.
"But I've won all our races," he argued, turning to look at Y/N with a smirk.
"I would love to slap you now, Anakin, but I'll stay professional for Senator's sake."
He laughed again, and so did Padme, but Y/N didn't share their amusement. She was doing all of this to release the tension, to try and persuade herself it won't be that bad, but in her heart, she felt completely rotten.
"Anakin, just be careful, okay?" Padme asked as he prepared for take-off.
"I'm always careful."
Y/N snorted loudly. "Never heard a bigger lie."
Anakin smiled to himself. He took all her teasing as a good sign and was happy to see that she did not comment on his relationship with Padme at all. Everything was going smoothly: the journey, the landing, coming into the Senate... Until they were about to go back.
Y/N parted from Anakin and Padme just for a moment. She found them by the ship and was just about to tell them they were ready to go back when she realised she'd stepped right into the middle of the couple's heated argument.
"Why is she here?" She heard Padme's voice and, on instinct, hid behind one of the ship's wings. Did Amidala mean her?
"Padme, it wasn't my choice, Obi-Wan..."
"But you could've said something," she interrupted.
"I couldn't, you know he's my Master, besides, Y/N..."
"Y/N this, Y/N that, you've been constantly talking about her for weeks now! And today I could also see how you look at her. You've never looked at me like this."
Y/N felt as though her heart got stuck in her throat; she was glad she had the wing for support, because her legs were becoming weak. This information was news to her, and she simply couldn't believe in what she was hearing - Padme was jealous of her?
Anakin heaved a sigh. "Listen, we just understand each other, we're in the same pos..."
"And I don't understand? Because I'm not a Jedi?"
And this seemed to work like a switch on Anakin. Y/N watched him from afar, yet she could still see his expression darken; she's never seen him like this, and it somehow terrified her.
"Well, yes, if I'm being honest, lately you don't understand," he almost growled.
Y/N gaped at him. That tone, that face, these words... It wasn't the Anakin she's known so far. Padme seemed to be just as surprised, taking a step back from him.
"How can you say that?"
"Say what? The truth?" he hissed.
Y/N wasn't able to take too much time focusing on the increasing speed of her heartbeat. She had to reveal herself somehow, especially before Anakin could calm down so he wouldn't sense her. Before Padme could respond to that, she quickly came out of her hiding and said loudly:
"I think we are ready to go."
She tried to act as if she had not heard a word of their argument, but, at the same time, it was particularly difficult not to watch their reactions. Padme still looked stunned - he still looked furious.
"Yes, we are," Anakin confirmed and gave Padme one last glare, then walked away to open the door of the ship.
Padme composed herself in front of Y/N, but the latter could see her clenched jaw clearly.
"Senator," Y/N said, gesturing for her to get into the aircraft first, and so she did without a word.
The journey back was silent and extremely tense. The moment they landed, Y/N, despite her jealousy, wanted to give them a moment to reconcile. She approached Anakin right after leaving the ship and whispered:
"You can stay if you want, Anakin. I'll go and report to Ob..."
"No, I'm going with you," he interrupted, his frown gone as he looked at her. "I don't need to stay here."
And so he did, surprising her even more. He was acting as if there was no argument whatsoever, often gracing Y/N with the beautiful smile she loved so much. However, she knew him well enough to see there was pain behind his eyes, and wondered whether she should ask him about it.
Eventually she decided to give him some time. If he argued with Padme because of her... Then talking to him about it might not have been the best idea.
Y/N spent the next day on waiting patiently for any sign from Anakin, any information about what she had heard - all of that while trying to process the fact Padme was jealous of her. Was it simply because they spent so much time together as Jedi... Or was it something else Anakin did or said that she had no idea about?
While she was preparing for bed in the evening, she heard knocking on her door, and it made her heart skip a beat. The Force, however, was hinting that it was not Anakin waiting for her to open. Seconds later, it was Obi-Wan whom Y/N was letting in.
"How are you? Did you decide anything?" he asked with sincere concern while she was sitting on her bed.
She took a deep breath.
"I'm not going to leave the Order," she replied, having decided this because of Anakin.
"Oh, that's good news. I'm relieved." Obi-Wan smiled at once.
"But nothing else changed," she added sadly, even though it was a lie. A lot changed in her heart after hearing that one argument, but, obviously, she wasn't going to tell Obi-Wan about it.
"Did you tell him...?"
"No, of course not! That would be madness." She shook her head vigorously. "But... It's still hard."
"I know, Y/N, I know." Obi-Wan sat down beside her, then put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "But at least you're staying here and I can help you. It'll be okay."
But it wasn't.
Just a few busy days later she had some time to breathe. She was eating alone at the Jedi temple, trying to process everything that has been happening lately. She told Obi-Wan she would not leave, but actually began considering it again, after spending almost every night dreaming about him. Padme's words were echoing in her head - I could also see how you look at her...
Her heart was jumping with joy every time she remembered them, however sadness overtook her body instantly as she realised that this love had no chance for a happy ending either way. Tears appeared in her eyes for the first time since talking to Anakin, and she hated them.
"May I?"
The unexpected voice almost made her jump in her seat. She looked up and saw - to her horror -  Anakin: standing there with his plate, smiling, and apparently willing to join her during the meal. She wasn't ready for this - and simply panicked.
"Yes, but... You know, I'm actually finished, so..." She stood up quickly and began walking away as fast as she could, even though deep down she knew Anakin would probably catch her.
"Y/N!" he called, then left his plate to go after her immediately. She was already on her way out of the room, new tears in her eyes as she tried to hide from him. Anakin didn't need much to catch up with her and noticed them immediately.
"Why are you crying?" he asked in a worried tone, standing in front of her and grabbing her hands. "Please, tell me what's wrong."
She didn't have any strength anymore.
"Listen, Anakin, I wouldn't want to get between you and Padme, so let's just..."
"There is no Padme."
Y/N's mouth fell agape. "What do you mean?"
Anakin let out a sigh, then looked around to make sure no one was eavesdropping.
"I ended things with her a few days ago, I was about to tell you... She wants me back, but I don't want it. I just... I don't love her anymore. And, once again, she doesn't understand me at all." He explained quietly and it was hard for Y/N to even register it. "I decided I should end it while she still has a chance to find someone else. I shouldn't have been with her in the first place."
Having heard that, Y/N let out a chuckle, one she almost didn't have control of. It was relief washing over her, taking the place of jealousy for the first time in months.
"Anakin making sense. Seems unbelievable."
He smiled widely at that, seeing that the atmosphere already got better.
"And you're teasing me again. Seems unbelievable now, too."
She just looked down, unsure of what to say next. One side of her was extremely happy - on the other hand, she had to remind herself that the fact he didn't want Padme didn't mean he wanted her.
"So... Would you agree to eat with me?" he asked after a moment, and she looked up to see hopefulness in his eyes. "Like we did on that day I made you laugh hysterically just because I said I didn't like sand?"
She chuckled again. "It's still funny to me."
"Then I can say that again."
These words warmed her from the inside. It was a joke, just that, but underneath these words, she could feel how he cared for her. They walked back to the table where Y/N completely regretted her earlier reaction.
"Well, but about Padme... I'm sorry. I know you probably don't feel well..."
"Don't be. I'll be alright," he said reassuringly, gracing her with yet another smile.
"Still, if you need to talk...You know where to find me," she offered before she could think about it. "And I'm sorry for my earlier... Runaway," she added in embarrassment.
"Are you alright? I could see you were crying."
"It's... I don't know how to explain it. I just didn't want to... You know, can we talk about it some other day?" she asked quickly, having realised she was just digging a whole for herself.
"Obi-Wan has some tasks for me today, but... How about we meet on the roof tomorrow evening?"
Her heart skipped a beat. They haven't met there for months, a year even, and it was a thing she missed a lot. Intimate, special... And just theirs.
"Like we used to?" she asked with a small smile.
"Pity we stopped," he replied, causing her to smile even wider. She knew it wouldn't be good for her feelings, but simply couldn't refuse.
"I'll be there."
Anakin seemed sincerely elated.

~King of the Dragonfish: Chapter 16 ~
Obi-Wan is just about ready to begin figuratively climbing the walls…
…scratch that, he's just about ready to literally climb the walls.
‘Come with me…’ Maul’s voice echoes in his mind.
“No,” he says aloud, pacing circles around the magma ball. “No.”
But gods, does he want-
“No.”
The jedi spares a moment to be angry at the circumstances. Every jedi was met with challenges on the path of life. It was supposed to be that way. They were chances for self reflection and growth. But how many jedi had their mortal enemy return from the grave looking like something out of a wet dream -no pun intended- and kidnap them, only to change their mind and decide they just want companionship and sex? They just want him to stay with them, forever, simple as that.
It's absurd. It's enticing. It's sad. It's sweet.
It makes Obi-Wan want to punch something.
It makes him want other things too…
“No.”
He has to leave. He has to. It's only a matter of time before slick scales and stress levels mix him up into a cocktail of poor choices. Obi-Wan wants to rail Maul into the ground. He wants to see what all that mess at the apex of his tail tastes like. He wants to get on his knees and-
Blast it! It's time to try escaping, with or without help from local fauna.
The jedi walks to the water's edge, and gathers his mental fortitude. He knows he's unlikely to succeed in getting to the sparkle of his lightsaber crystal, or to somehow find his rebreather. However, Maul's force signature is far away. Now is a good time to explore, and hope, and trust in the force.
Obi-Wan jumps into the frigid water, grimacing as it rises around him. He swims as close to the exit tunnel as he can, and starts taking deep breaths, trying to hyperoxygenate a bit.
Then, he dives.
What follows is a slow and cautious exploration of the nearby tunnels that serves as a double blessing for how it takes his mind off Maul. He swims one way, and finds nothing but tunnel that goes on further than he can see. The jedi returns to air, catches his breath, and goes out again.
The other direction offers a split in the road. One way leads to a dead end, the other hits a second divide. Again, he reoxigenates, and despite the terrible cold he goes back down for a third attempt.
Then a fourth, a fifth, a sixth, a seventh… a hour passes and the chill sinks into his bones. He finds two more air pockets, not quite as fresh as the algae and moss crowded caves, but still breathable.
And then, he stumbles across another ‘room’.
Obi-Wan breaches the water's surface and finds himself in a trove. He crawls up onto land, and looks around curiously. This cave is a series of smaller rooms that connect, with an exceptional number of pock marks in the walls. Perhaps millennia ago this was living coral? Whatever the case, the larger pockets have been turned into shelves, and these shelves hold myriad items.
Droid parts, sea shells, and pearls as big as his head. Tin cans, fabric scraps, and a silver platter. An entire trombone, half rusted, sits in a footlocker without a lid. There's a pile of datapads which all look to be out of charge, and a statue of some long forgotten nubian queen. These and more, a flee market’s worth of curios.
His most unexpected find is an area of sand, which seems... combed? Gemstones and polished rocks in shades of blue combine with patterns in the sand to create a garden of sorts. Many of the stones are no bigger than a bean. The largest is a chunk of lapis lazuli the size of his fist. Obi-Wan ponders the rock garden for a few minutes before moving on, not quite sure what to make of it.
A sith with a sense of artistry... that's just... odd?
From what he had seen in the archives, the sith of old stuck to geometric patterns and flat colors. Their ideal temple was a barren monolith or an angular ziggurat with either no decoration, or, records of horrible deeds carved in words. Sometimes pictures.
Yet... Maul had made a lovely little garden, in shades of blue and white and beige. Strange.
Obi-Wan turns away from the mystery, and goes digging through the droid parts to see if there's anything that could boost his comm signal. It's a possibility, there's a lot to work with here. Rather than take anything, the jedi memorizes what he sees and makes note of it. He will plan what to take and where to hide it to work on before risking revealing the direction of his thoughts.
At the very back of the caves is a large cubby of stone that looks like it was carved into the wall with a lightsaber, then carefully sanded smooth.
On a shelf beside it sits a saberstaff. Obi-Wan can feel the song of the kyber from here, now that he listens. Two notes in harmony, one longing and angry, the other spiteful and determined. The jedi knows this blade, and has no desire to touch it… but it's good to know where it is.
He shakes his head sadly at the sithly melody, and sits down at the edge of the cubby, exhausted and sluggish. Obi-Wan rests his elbows on his knees, needing a minute to gather his strength. Even with a jedi's ability to propel himself with the force and slow his heartbeat, it was still a long swim back.
Emotionally Obi-Wan feels a lot better though. He's mapped a significant amount of tunnel, found three places to get air for further exploration, and most importantly he's gotten his mind off-
Oh, kriff.
The jedi master groans, flopping backwards onto the smooth stone with a wet smack, exasperated with himself. Truly? Truly. A single stray thought about beautiful black scales, and he's back in the thick of it like he'd never left.
Obi-Wan covers his eyes with a shaking hand, hiding from reality for just a moment. Two moments. Perhaps five moments…
He sighs, removing his hand to look up at the ceiling. This is, inconveniently, when he realizes his fingers are very pale. Bother. He needs to get up, and… and swim back to the radiant heat of the magma ball.
Just the thought of it is dreadfully tiring, and he is comfortable here. Very comfortable... So very…
Oh no.
He knows exactly what being sleepy when one is very cold means. The jedi curses under his breath, forcing himself upright. His vision is slow to catch up with where he's looking. He's pushed too far, and now his body is paying the price of that.
Obi-Wan draws in the force to support himself, and rises unsteadily to his feet. Every bone in his body pleads with him to lay down. He denies the instinct in favor of a survivalist mentality.
The problem? He is much too cold.
The solution? Getting out of wet clothes and closer to warmth, or barring that, some kind of insulting material.
He thinks through a mild fog, and recalls the cloth scraps. Obi-Wan goes hunting around in the treasure trove as he pulls off his belt. He dumps his clothes onto the floor, managing to lay them out to air dry for what it was worth in the relative humidity. Then he gathers up every last scrap of fabric he can find.
The pile of scraps. A sail cloth. Half a tarp. His best find is a pair of old wool socks, which he puts on right away. The lot of it he piles in the cubby, and curls in on himself in the midst of it. Obi-Wan knows he just needs to warm up, then he can put everything back, and return to where he was supposed to be. Maul's force presence was still far away. He wasn't in a rush…
…and that's part of why the jedi falls asleep precisely when and where he really shouldn't.
Obi-Wan wakes sometime later with his head tucked under a pointed chin. A scaled tail curls around his naked legs, and a lumpy magma hemisphere radiates heat against his back.
... kark.
Obi-Wan can't deal with this right now. He's beyond exhausted, possibly a bit ill. The jedi master takes a deep breath, and just... goes back to sleep, held close in red and black arms.
To be continued...

summary: your life with Obi-Wan if Anakin had never turned
Tumblr media
Obi Wan x Reader
Daze
As you stepped out of the transport you were met with the sweet smell of flowers and fresh smell of the countless trees and heathlands. The warm sunlight immediately tickled your face, a smile instantly forming on it. Distantly, you heard the soft burble of waterfalls.
Of the countless planets you’ve seen as a Jedi, Naboo had to be your favorite. It was not only the captivating beauty, but mostly the safe feeling it provided you. Like a warm embrace.
Obi-Wan watched you, his eyes dilating at seeing you so content. That was his only goal in life, to make you happy.
He looked down for only a second, dragging his eyes from your radiant smile to the luggage he was holding in his hands.
A smile of his own formed on his face when his eyes moved back to you. This was it, a new and fresh beginning.
The seemingly ever lasting war that had brought you all so much pain, suffering and sadness had finally come to an end, the Republic was as strong as ever and everyone lived in peace again.
Peace, that was what the Jedi had always stood for. Obi-Wan had watched as they had lost their ways during the war, the Jedi had no longer been keepers of peace, but partly the reason for violence.
Even though he was a part of the council, he didn’t agree on many things they did. And most importantly, he didn’t agree on some of the strict rules.
Why were attachments forbidden when yours had only made him happier, stronger, more focused?
Why would they forbid something so beautiful like love? A feeling consuming your whole body and mind, happiness shooting right through you.
Oh- how much he loved you. His heart ached in his chest at only the thought of his love for you, so deep, so pure, so real.
He was swiftly pulled out of his thoughts as he heard the giggling of children close to him.
And as his eyes moved to the platform, he watched little Leia and Luke running to you at full speed.
You had to bite your lip from smiling so much, kneeling down and opening your arms. And as they both made impact with you, you almost fell down at their strength.
You laughed as you pulled both of them as close to you as possible, stroking Leia’s head softly. You had only seen them a few weeks ago, but they had both grown so much.
Both let go of you at once, grinning up at you mischievously. “How have you both been?”, you questioned, now stroking Luke’s head once.
“Great!”, Luke chirped in, but Leia had something to add very soon. “Apart from my annoying brother, everything’s been great.”
You couldn’t stop yourself from laughing and watched as Luke shot you an angry look, running up to Obi-Wan to hug his legs. “That’s the thing about boys, they tend to be annoying a lot.”, you rolled your eyes, clearly referring to Anakin and Obi-Wan.
“Oh is that so?”, a too familiar voice asked and you stood up quickly, grinning up at Anakin. You had to hold back your laugh as you saw the visible dark bags under his eyes and his ruffled hair.
Padmé, who stood next to him, seemed to be looking just fine, as beautiful and effortlessly beautiful as ever.
You hugged them both quickly, before you decided to talk to Padmé for a bit.
Out of the corner of your eye, however, you watched as Anakin and Obi-Wan hugged each other, your heart immediately melting at the sight.
“Are you excited?”, Padmé wanted to know. “More than anything. The only place I’ve ever known is the Jedi temple, I can’t imagine how life as normal citizens will be like.”
Padmé shrugged her shoulders. “I promise, you’ll both love it.”, she began. “With the way this man looks at you, you’ll certainly be in safe hands.”, she continued and you felt your cheeks warming at merely the mention of him, your Obi-Wan.
You felt Obi-Wan coming closer to you, his hand swiftly brushing yours, asking for permission to take it. You instantly opened your palm, intertwining your fingers with his. Warmth spread through your body at just the feeling of his hand in yours. There had to be no hiding anymore, you could love him in public and he wasted no time in showing everyone that you were his.
“Gross.”, Anakin’s eyes moved from your intertwined hands to your face, imitating a disgusted look.
You smacked him lightly, glaring at him. “If you want us to babysit Luke and Leia tonight, you better take that back.”
You watched Anakin’s eyes as they widened, a panicked look appearing on his face. “I’ll take it back. Everything. We need that break.”
You giggled and Obi-Wan could swear it was the most beautiful sound in the galaxy.
He leaned down to whisper something in your ear, his sweet breath tickling your skin. “Since when are they so big and since when can they talk?”
“That’s what I was thinking!”, you whispered back, your gaze moving to Luke who was being chased by Leia.
“Come on, we’ll take you to your new home.”, Padmé and Anakin began to walk away from you and as you moved to take a step, too, Obi-Wan took your arm and stopped you from moving for a second.
You immediately turned to him, your eyes locking with his beautiful blue ones. You would never get used to the color.
What caught you off guard, though, was the longing look in Obi’s eyes as he looked back at you.
You watched him gulp, nervousness written on his face. You quickly intertwined your force presence with his, soothing him just a little.
“If-“, he began, his voice breaking at the end. You watched as he took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a second before regaining his courage.
“If we get settled and we both find a job and earn enough money to live- of course- would you consider-“, he began, his eyes moving to your lips only once.
“Would you consider having this, too?”, he moved his head to Padmé’s and Anakin’s. “Building a family?“, he finished, his eyes hopeful.
“Of course only if you want to, and if you are ready. If you don’t want children at all, we don’t have to, the only thing I want is you in my life-“
You interrupted him by placing a hand on his face and it was only then that he saw the tears building up in your eyes. “There’s nothing else that I want.”, you whispered.
Obi’s eyes dilated immediately, his heart racing in his chest. He moved his eyes to your lips once again and caught them in a sweet and soft kiss.
His eyes opened widely, the sound of a sandstorm outside awaking him from his dream.
His heart dropped at that.
A dream. It had only been a dream.
The cave he was living in was dark and smelled musty, he hadn’t changed his clothes in a while and he was sleeping on the stone hard ground.
Tears instantly rushed to his eyes when he truly realized that it had only been a dream, so very distant from reality.
It had felt so real, your hand in his, you in his arms where you belonged.
This is where you should be right now, laying in his arms and cuddling with him to sleep.
Despite of everything that had happened, you still should be with him, living in a small hut on Tatooine.
If you were with him, he wouldn’t be sleeping at a place like this, he’d work ten jobs to provide a happy and fulfilled live for you. He’d give everything to you.
You were supposed to be with him, he was supposed to protect you, always protect you. You shouldn’t be laying dead in the Jedi temple, you should be by his side.
He threw his fist against the stone ground in a fit of anger, probably breaking some bones in the process.
He had always known that he didn’t deserve you, didn’t deserve you loving him back. Surprisingly, though, you did love him back.
The universe, however, didn’t allow him to be happy. He was destined for infinite sadness and he was well aware of it, but he had always hoped that his future contained you, in any way possible.
The universe didn’t allow him love, though.
He pulled his knees closer to him, letting a sob out at just the thought of you.
He missed you, so so much. It was as if a part of him was gone, his heart ripped out of his chest. It was yours and you had taken it with you when you died.
“Please, darling, give me a sign, anything.”
He was met with nothing.

“It's not like I frequent these events,” he mutters, feeling like a broken record. “I would appreciate the help though, thank you.”
“A great many things might seem unbecoming when their purpose is obscured, Master Tapal.”
"Peacekeeping has many faces. The diplomats and negotiators do work that I can hardly even imagine." [redacted context] "You're right, all the same. There's a certain naivete and unconscious bias in a lot of Knights. Lack of perspective about what it takes to survive."
“The artist who gave my father his markings was the one to give me mine," he continues, a touch wistful. "Going back home was strange. Seeing the ways it had changed and the ways it was still stuck was… hard.”
"You would be wise not to show your condescension so openly, Skywalker. If I can feel it, so can most beings on this planet. Need I remind you that ties with the Force run deep here?"
“Just Bastra is fine,” Vargdan sighs. The look he fixes on Kenobi is equal parts irritation and resignation. “You said it was urgent, so I didn't pit stop on Coruscant."
“Not the way you do, but my Master did.” His smile is sad, but free from the weight of grief. “He took them very literally, and if you know what they’re like, I imagine you can see how that would toy with one’s mind.”
“The Order is all I have. This is the only reason I ever got off Dathomir.”
“It's not safe to be out here alone,” he says without turning, forcing her to jog a few steps before matching his pace, “especially for unsubtle thieves.”
“Don't say that. Not now. You had your reasons, you had Sifo-Dyas, and I got that. Eventually. It doesn't matter anymore.”
“I know.” A silence, then an admission, “She's not as angry as I was, I don't think.”
"I mean, it's not like I know how to conduct an army. Bones is miles more qualified than I am, so I'll gladly defer to his judgment."
"This was kept from you for a reason. Some stories are best left buried."
"Obi-Wan was killed in action on Utapau," he repeats. "I know nothing more of it."
“I nearly did, after Sifo-Dyas died.” [redacted context] “I was on my own out there, after, no contact with the Temple to replace him. In all that– with that gang, the things I had to watch. The things I had to do. I was right at the edge.”
(nocte and des under there ⬇️)
Tumblr media
“It’s not just the job.” Still, Nocte pulls off his gloves and dumps them in a bin. His expression settles into something hard to read. "You're one of us now, whether you're ready to act like it or not."
"I've put myself on the line enough at least one lifetime, but here we are."
"I don't pity you, MacTavish. I didn't come here to fight with you either."
"What was it you said? No room for morality in war?"
"Well," he grunts, "call it a lapse in judgment if it helps you sleep at night. Not like I'd take offense."
“It doesn’t matter, Soap. It’s just not my bloody name.”
"It's exhausting. The upper crust is exhausting. Aren't you exhausted?"
"Price is going to kill me and it'll be your fault. Me and Lee, both," he complains, though it rings hollow when he doesn't stop her.
"It'll grow back, probably faster than the higher ups would like."
"I don't care whose fault it is. Get your asses back here and fix it."
"Are you threatening to blackmail me, Captain? Because that's a two-way street after–"
He whistles, low and appreciative. "That is one big bastard."
"Quit trying to pick me apart, Lieutenant, I'm fine."
"We shouldn't," he forces himself to say. "We can't."
"How do you ever get anything done with your head that far up your ass?"
Tumblr media
"You will mind your goddamn manners or you'll see a different 'doc. Do you understand?"
“You came in with a referral, made my life a little easier, so I'll give you a discount. I respect you, Viktor, you're good at what you do. Not to mention your days in the ring – I was such a fan.” His expression twitches toward something that might even be genuine. “How about this, I'll dig up this chrome for you and you'll owe me a favor.”
"I doubt Royce would've let me walk away from that. Heard he's got a new right hand."
"Hard to believe that's true," he said, laughing a little. "Reckon this is more memory than imagination."
“The crew called me Eyes, which was a gonk ass nickname. Stuck, though."
“I’ve known Hands for a long time, grew up in Pacifica. Don’t get me wrong, I heard about you on the street, but didn’t really pay it any mind until he started asking after you.”
"I think you answered your own question. It's a clinic, ain't it? I'm getting doctored."
"Fucking disgraceful is what it is. You build something, pour your blood sweat and tears into it, just for some upstart leadhead to run it into the ground."
“So I’ll talk to him, clear this up,” he says, even though it’s an uncomfortable prospect. “He probably respects me enough to halfway listen.”
"No. No one ever made me do anything. I lost a lot, but I won't lose that."

he was unaware of his own curiosities until this very opportunity arose. he's denying it still as he rummages through compartments, through mostly meaningless things - first aid kits, loose tools and rations. when mere moments from giving up, from finally convincing himself he doesn't care or even WANT to find something, he opens the final drawer.
unremarkable. the only word for it. it's simple. fits well in his hand, as many blades do - it's what they're designed for. a textured hilt and unimpressive length. unmarred teeth near the bottom of the blade - still perfect. this weapon has not seen much - if any - use. further up, there's a raised circular design. it's so simple. boring, really. so why would kenobi keep it hidden away - protected. and why does he even have it?? with the use of the force and his lightsaber, what need was there??
maul considers the dagger, twisting his wrist to inspect from the other side. still boring.
Tumblr media
Admittedly, he should have been a bit more hesitant to leave Maul alone on his ship. Should have foreseen that leaving his... rival? unsupervised wouldn't lead to anything good. But Captain Rex was calling him with need about how Anakin's mission was going, and Obi-Wan didn't want to add further stress to Anakin by having his captain tell him about how he'd seen him with Maul. It was also the kind of secret he didn't want to force upon Rex. The captain already had enough with Anakin's, even if Anakin wasn't at all good at keeping his secrets- well, secret.
Whatever he'd been about to tell Maul about when he walked back into the ship completely vacated his mind the moment the familiar blade caught the light, seizing his attention.
To say that Obi-Wan looked as if he'd seen a ghost would be an understatement. With the look on his face, one would assume that Maul had stabbed him with the vibroblade, when in reality all he's doing is standing there, inspecting it, holding it. Obi-Wan's mouth feels dry, his chest feels tight and his throat refuses to pass air for a full minute. He's taken punches to the torso that have left him way less breathless than the mere sight of Maul holding Cerasi's vibroblade does.
Finally, Obi-Wan manages to tear his eyes off the dagger to meet Maul's, and after a moment, he finds his voice.
"Give it back."
He doesn't even think about not sounding like that knife means the world to him. Later, he will regret this unchecked burst of panic in his voice. For now, all he can think about is the fact that it's Cerasi's dagger, being held by someone else– not even the fact that it's Maul, just that somebody else is touching it at all makes his stomach twist with something that he's spent so long keeping from surfacing. Something that's now bubbling up.
"Maul," the way he says the other's name is almost angry. A warning. "Give it back."

I think I want to soak up every take you have on Anakin and Padme with a sponge because yes yes yes. Thoughts on Mustafar?
since this is a more general ask i will take this as an opportunity to chat about something i've been thinking about lately: the direct connection between the aftermath of the tusken raiders massacre and anakin's conviction on mustafar that padme didn't love him anymore.
it's fairly clear from anakin's behavior and language following his massacre of the tuskens that he's aware that what he's done is objectively wrong. he also seems aware of the disconnect from the objective morality of the act, and what he feels about the act. he feels justified in what he did- or, he's trying to convince himself that he is- but he's distressed because he knows that's not what a good person, should be.
(as an aside, a lot of people talk about anakin measuring himself in comparison to morality as determined by the jedi order. but i think in this moment, it's more likely that he's thinking about morality in terms of shmi. he's just killed men, women, and children, supposedly in his mother's name, and on some level he knows that she would never want or condone that.)
anyways, anakin is very unstable and conflicted here. but his response to feeling these emotions- likely influenced by the dangers of expressing such things in his childhood while enslaved- is to lean away from them. he doesn't want to think about, let alone process, the guilt of what he's done. the idea that he's disappointed his mother, that he's tarnished her memory, is too painful for him. he wants someone to give him an excuse not to handle these difficult truths.
this is why he doesn't go to the jedi. it's why he doesn't go to obi-wan. he knows they will tell him what he does not want to hear: that he did a very bad thing. and if they tell him that, then maybe he'll have to confront that his mother would be just as horrified as the jedi were.
and there can sometimes be a fine line between empathy and enabling, which is something padme really struggled with when it came to anakin in particular. (i could make an entire other post about why this is, but we're focusing on how anakin perceived their relationship here, because it'll explain how he perceived her actions within the context of their relationship on mustafar.) and what does padme do?
"to be angry is to be human," she says. providing the justification, the excuse. anakin is able to lean into her comfort, safe in the knowledge that he will not be forced to handle any of the painful truths he had so feared. this comes at the cost of his personal growth; it comes at the cost of his humanity. but in the moment, to him, it feels like salvation. the world was ending and padme made it stop.
i won't go into the clone wars here, because otherwise this post would be too long. but there are many moments within the series where this pattern repeats itself. anakin does something padme isn't comfortable with, or something she initially resists, but her displeasure never lasts and she always returns to him without requiring him to change his mind or understand why she disapproved in the first place. every time this happens, it reinforces and recreates their exchange on tattooine. padme is a safe space for anakin- not just from the world, but from himself. from his own conscience, and from his own guilt.
this brings us to mustafar. anakin has done a terrible thing, an awful thing, in the name of someone he loves. just as he did on tattooine. but while shmi died, and he could only get reprieve from his guilt about the tuskens indirectly (through padme, a surrogate mother figure), in this instance his justification for his crimes is still alive. anakin is hoping for padme to condone his actions, the way he'd hoped shmi would have condoned his treatment of the tuskens.
of course, it was an incredible oversight and misunderstanding of padme as a person on anakin's part to think that she would look past the destruction of her entire life's work. that's just objectively true. but it's also clear to see how anakin's expectations of this unconditional support had only ever been reinforced over the course of their relationship- never challenged.
anakin came to rely on padme for unconditional support, to soothe his guilt and his suspicions that he'd done something terrible. and the moment she finally refused to do that for him, he turned on her.
because in his mind, her love had always been defined by unconditionally supporting him, and if she'd stopped doing that, then to him it meant that she no longer loved him. it's why he was confused- why aren't you doing what you've always done before and helping me ignore my guilt- and it's why he perceived it as a personal betrayal.

The Last Jedi, the Last Good Star Wars Movie
Tumblr media
I'm gonna go ahead and preface this by saying, I have no idea how this will play with my social circle here on Tumblr. I know how my Twitter and Bluesky friends feel about SW, but not y'all. I don't think I've ever even seen a post about it here, and I don't care to go look. Bottom line, I have too many opinions and not enough people who agree with me, so now you have to suffer through this essay. You're welcome.
I was a fan of SW at least as early as I have memories. I'm 29 years old, which means I grew up firmly in the prequel era, and watched them young enough that I didn't even realize older people hated them. Obi-wan was my hero, not my mentor, I never really identified with Anakin and always liked Obi the most. But, and this is important, I loved Star Wars and thought all of it was good. I read one EU book set between episodes 1 and 2, I watched as much of the original Clone Wars series as I could, and I played lightsabers during recess in school. I am at least as nostalgic as every gen xer who laments a bygone era when SW was good because they don't understand that they just liked things better as a kid. But, the difference is, that kind of person tends to despise everything about the sequel trilogy, in my experience. Not so for me.
The Force Awakens was a pretty good movie in my eyes, when I first saw it. I did notice the deja vu, I had very little actual interest in Rey as a character, but just having a female force user at the forefront was huge to me, and it was certainly, at least, a solid foundation for the next two movies. My biggest TFA hot take is that Kylo Ren was the perfect antagonist for this movie, as basically a spoiled shithead who is a fanboy of his grandpa and wants so, so badly to be cool like him. I was also the sort of person who got really invested in the ~mystery~ of Rey's origin, and the speculation of her parentage.
Enter TLJ. My first emotion, at several points during this movie, was dismay. I couldn't believe they just made Rey some random person, after setting up that her background was vague and mysterious! I couldn't believe that Luke never fought anybody and then he died! But, very quickly after, I had time to process my emotions, and I realized that this movie was something special. It manages to "yes, and" TFA while also roasting me for investing so much passion into the questions it rose. "You thought she would somehow be Obi-wan's daughter? Are you serious?" And when you get angry at that, you're met with the obvious question, "Why should it matter?" It shouldn't. We want to see the characters we love come back, but when it comes to this girl, this hero, why should she have to be related to some old dead guy in order to be special? The Force is everywhere, it lives in all of us. That is the central point of TLJ. And, arguably on purpose, this film pissed off Star Wars fans more than anything ever could.
TLJ isn't just a movie that taunts the audience for speculating based on its predecessor, it taunts the audience for being overly invested in the entire franchise. TLJ looks at its series, it looks at the people who watch it, and it demands that you question your relationship with the material. It calls you a fool for assuming that an emotionally-stunted young adult like Luke would become a well-rounded mentor, for assuming that he was incapable of being tempted by darkness, for worshipping him as a pure hero. Because, who is Luke? He was a kid who was bored with simple life, got pulled away into a galactic conflict, and pretty much stumbled his way through saving the world. Even at the final moment, he was very close to murdering his father out of rage. Do you think that's just gonna go away after Palpatine died? Just because Luke put his sword away? No. It also mocks you for assuming Snoke is going to be important just because he's a large man in a fancy chair. He's a parallel to the Emperor, so you assume he'll be the same, and the movie roasts you for it by killing him off unceremoniously. And the Poe plot? That is nothing but one giant own on everyone who loved Poe assuming that the cool guy hotshot was the most important and competent person in the fleet.
The intent of all this playful mockery, I believe, was to get viewers to question how they idealize the past of the franchise. That's what it did for me. But, mediocre white dudes don't like being mocked, as we all know. They take it VERY personally, and they blew up the whole thing. They harassed creatives involved, sent death threats to poor Kelly Marie, and all in all went berserk about this movie for children about space wizards. How dare it move on?! How dare it not just be about my nostalgia?! Not just white, not just men, but I don't feel any need to deny that that's the primary demographic. There was already some backlash to TFA, but TLJ pulled no punches, and the most perpetually-offended fandom in the world lived up to its name. It's really that simple. And as a result, the Disney Overlords scrambled to make them calm down. Enter...Rise of Skywalker.
I. Fucking. HATE this movie. Apart from the fact that it tries to undo everything I loved about TLJ, it's poorly made in more conventional ways. Rushed pace, aimless writing, having no idea what to do with the characters, (not to mention giving the black protagonist a black girlfriend who has all the same backstory and traits as him, lest anyone ship him with Poe) it is the epitome of a movie that only exists for nostalgia, but it can't even do that well. If there's one lesson I've learned from the sequel trilogy, it's that JJ Abrams is not only a trashfire of a director, but he is utterly incapable of reacting to what happened in the previous movie, because he spent so much runtime just calling Rian Johnson a liar! "Rey's not no one, instead she has the most asinine backstory in the history of the franchise." To me, it reeks of a man who despised the way Rian responded to him, and is just desperate to overrule it. As a writer myself, I can't even imagine doing something like that instead of doing my best to work with what came before. The definition of hack behavior.
TLJ was a movie that tried to move Star Wars into the future, to divorce it from idolatry of the past, but ROS is a movie designed with intent to reel it back in, to say, "Hold on, art and creativity are great and all, but Disney gotta make them nostalgia bucks." A return to hero worship, to centering the leads of decades ago, to feeding the lore rather than telling a story. And the fact that it followed a film that told the story it wanted to tell and didn't give a shit how you felt about it, it's just insulting.
This is going to sound like cheesy artist babble, but to me, the art of creation is sacred, in a way. Not literally holy, but just beautiful and meaningful. Even if what comes out is bad, it's worth doing if done with sincerity. That's how I see TLJ. But given the way both fans and the rights holders reacted to it, I'm depressed and pessimistic regarding the future of the franchise. The Phantom Menace was the first movie I loved, and I still like it today. I'm sure I'll love TLJ forty years from now, and I'll probably continue to watch new SW movies when they come out. I don't know if I'll ever love a movie in the franchise again, but I can have hope. This is a movie that proved Star Wars was capable of being better, and that doesn't change just because neckbeards hate it more than they've ever hated anything. This is still going to be the franchise that has TLJ in it, and the haters can't take that from me.

“You always this quiet?” 🙈
ah bless, ok !!! this is set in the couples counseling au, which is post-rots where obi-wan and anakin accidentally sign up for couples counseling, thinking they're going to like. counseling for teams. for people closer than brothers, etc etc. they end up falling in love (of course this IS me). this takes place right after they realize that the counselor thinks they're in love, about a month and a half after they start the counseling.
(again this is obikin, anakin is just both still married to padme for right now and very oblivious)
(1.4k)
Anakin isn’t sure he can look at Obi-Wan right now. He’s had the same dilemma on and off for a number of years, but never because of something this mortifying. And they’d been doing so much better as well. They’d really been getting along so well, cutting their twice-a-week counseling sessions to once a week ones with the approval of their counselor. They’d been making real progress.
And then they’d realized last night that their counselor thought they were…involved. Romantically involved.
It can’t be further from the truth, of course. Anakin has been and always will be in love with Padmé, and the way he loves doesn’t leave room in his heart for anyone else. And besides, his master is just—so perfect. The perfect Jedi, the perfect man. He’d never want Anakin that way. He could probably have anyone in Coruscant he wanted, a thought that fills Anakin’s chest with a weird mixture of pride and distaste. No one deserved his master. He’s always known that to be true, but it’s especially obvious now that they’re a month and a half into their counseling.
Anakin had been horrified to learn how many people in the past had hurt his master, betrayed his trust and tried to break him. He’d been even more horrified that he had been so close to being one of those people, that the war could have ended so incredibly, painfully differently had their time aboard the Invisible Hand gone a little worse.
But it hadn’t. They’d won, and everything had come to light. Palpatine’s manipulations, Anakin’s own crimes, Anakin’s own betrayal of the Code. Obi-Wan knew everything now.
It’s still surprising to Anakin, the fact that Obi-Wan hadn’t just…left. It speaks of serious attachment on Obi-Wan’s part, attachment to Anakin. It means something that his master had not been able to let him go, that he had been angry and wounded and betrayed but he hadn’t cut ties. He’d agreed almost immediately to Anakin’s half-drunken idea to go to counseling together, talk through their issues and hurts with an unbiased, professionally trained third party.
His agreement had meant the galaxy to Anakin at the time, because it had meant Obi-Wan wanted to work on them. That he loved Anakin. That he wanted them to stay the way they’d grown together: the Team, closer than best friends, closer than brothers.
But too bad for everyone involved that Anakin had accidentally signed them up for couples’ counseling.
Which—in hindsight—makes a lot of things make a lot more sense.
(Just the memory of Counselor Sheari asking them probing questions about the frequency of their intimacy brings a flush to Anakin’s cheeks. Oh. That’s what she’d meant. He’d thought she’d been talking about casual touching, like hugs.
He’d said not enough, and by the Force, she’d written that down. She’d asked Obi-Wan how comfortable he felt with their level of intimacy, and Obi-Wan had said he’d never been as demonstrative as he was with Anakin, but that it was hard for him, and it was hard to face the fact that his padawan had needs that he’s been failing to meet for years now.
And in the bedroom? Sheari had asked, scribbling furiously on the flimsi in front of her. Is it easier to be affectionate and intimate when you know no one but your partner will be able to see you?
I… Obi-Wan had stuttered, flushed all over. Anakin had thought the dull red of his cheeks had contrasted so beautifully with his hair, lit almost gold from the dying of the Coruscant daylight. I will hold him sometimes, if we sleep together. He had averted his eyes, as if he couldn’t feel Anakin pressing their Force signatures as close together as he could in reward and support. I have nightmares. We have nightmares.
Master Kenobi, Sheari had said, I find it interesting that you seem to take comfort in touch and intimacy, but only in the cover of darkness where only your partner can see you. It’s understandable but curious, given that you say you struggle to be demonstrative in public. Anakin, how does that make you feel?
Wanting, he’d admitted, if only to feel the way Obi-Wan’s Force signature twine with his in return.)
“You always this quiet?” Sheari asks, looking up from her notes to gaze at the pair of them. “I’m kidding,” she clarifies after a second. “After the third shouting match, I’ve marked you down as my loudest clients.”
Right, Anakin thinks dully. Because her clients are married people on the edge of getting a divorce. It’s a category she must think they fit into as well.
“Did something happen last night or in the past week?” she asks, folding her hands neatly on the desk in front of her.
Obi-Wan coughs from next to him. “Oh—no, nothing particularly revelatory.”
Anakin snorts and crosses his arms. It’s just that we realized you think we’re a couple, but Obi-Wan likes you and I don’t want to have to start all over again with some new person, so we talked about it and we’re going to try and pretend that we’re in love. Please don’t tell my wife.
“Hm,” Sheari appraises them. “Actually, I want to try something different today after looking over my notes from the past few sessions. I believe—perhaps from your past, your shared traumas, a sense of propriety and duty, and even a belief in trying to protect the other from the worst parts of yourselves, there is…a wall that you’ve built between yourselves.”
Anakin wrinkles his nose. If there’s a wall, it’s made up of Obi-Wan’s shields. Anakin has been doing nothing for years but throwing himself at them, trying to make them break, a one-man siege warfare.
But—perhaps Sheari has a point. Anakin’s secretkeeping, it had been from fear, yes, but not just of being found out and punished for his mistakes. He’d been afraid of disappointing Obi-Wan, of the man seeing his worst and most ugly parts, his rage and his greed. So he’d pulled away too. He’d built the wall too.
“Alright,” he admits slowly. “Yes. How do we break it?”
There’s a fond curl of amusement from Obi-Wan’s side of the bond, and Anakin sends out a loose question.
Spoken like a true war general, Obi-Wan’s mind whispers back, brusing against his own.
“Thank you for asking,” Sheari says. “I’d like you to climb into Obi-Wan’s lap and remain there for the rest of the session.”
“What?” The both of them squawk, but the counselor remains firm.
“I feel that getting both of you used to casual intimacy—around other people—will be good for you. You want to hold and be held by the other, otherwise you wouldn’t have submitted yourself to this counseling, especially for as long as we’ve been meeting. Now, come on. It’s only for thirty more minutes.”
Thirty minutes? Of—of sitting on his master’s lap as if he were a youngling?
Anakin, his master whispers over the bond, we don’t have to. We can tell her no. I will not do anything you are not comfortable with.
The words draw Anakin to a mental halt. Because that’s—that’s Obi-Wan implying that he’s comfortable with holding Anakin. That he’s worried about Anakin.
Well, if his master is fine with it, Anakin certainly is.
He tries to not appear too enthusiastic as he scrambles over the couch and into Obi-Wan’s lap, straddling his hips and wrapping his arms around his neck. It takes a little adjustment, Obi-Wan’s hands guiding him with one on his hip and the other on the small of his back, before they’re comfortable. Obi-Wan even goes as far as to ghost a hand up and down Anakin’s spine, and Anakin relaxes into the pressure, his master’s scent surrounding him and calming him. He smells like he always has, the spice of his tea and a bit like the sun. So warm and full of Light.
“Perfect,” the counselor applauds. “How does that feel for you, Anakin?”
Anakin’s eyes catch with Obi-Wan’s. The older man smiles slightly, and his eyes crinkle with his joy. “Perfect,” Anakin tells her, fascinated with trying to count his master’s crow’s feet before they disappear.
“And you, Obi-Wan?”
“Perfect,” Obi-Wan echoes, and Anakin has to fight the confusing urge to squirm in place from the heavy word of praise.

Headcanons for dating Obi-Wan Kenobi (prequels) SFW and NSFW...
Tumblr media
He's admired you from afar for a long period of time; watching you with a fond smile as you play with the Younglings or as you laugh at something your friends say. He watches you with such awe in his eyes. The way he looks at you is something that makes others envious.
At first, Obi-Wan is in denial about his feelings for you due to the Jedi rule of being forbidden to form attachments to others. Anakin knows straight away and he teases the fuck out of Obi-Wan. Obi denies it every single time until he teases him one too many times and he snaps.
"Fine, yes! I have feelings for (y/n), not that I could ever do anything about those feelings due to being strictly forbidden if you'd like to remember that!"
When he finally admits it to himself and to Anakin, he's angry. He's breathing hard and his mind is whirring, his heart is racing and his hand is unsteady. He's burning with rage. Anakin knows why. Obi-Wan wouldn't go against the rules and when he admits it to himself, he hates that he's broken that rule... at the same time, he's glad that he's finally admitted it to himself.
He swore to never tell you and in truth, it's not Obi-Wan who spills the beans, it's Anakin who teases him a little too loudly one day and doesn't realise that you're standing behind him. Obi-Wan's face just drops as he stares past Anakin and straight into your eyes.
Anakin dips and lets Obi pick up the pieces.
You're shocked, to say the least, and at first, once again Obi tries to deny it but after a few failed attempts, he gives up and tells you.
"He spoke the truth. I have tried to deny it, tried to bury it beneath a mountain of other responsibility but I cannot deny it any longer, (y/n). I believe that I am in love with you, I know that I am."
It's Obi's turn to be shocked when you reciprocate the feelings back for him. He doesn't quite believe or understand it.
He lets all rationality fly out of the window and he kisses you. It's short and sweet but it's the beginning of something new.
The two of you sneak around, finding new spots to see each other in, sneaking out at night or early in the morning to see the other. Anakin always smiles knowingly when he sees you.
Obi-Wan is very sweet and always does things to make you smile. He brings you flowers, small gifts and does whatever he can to make you smile.
The murmurs of 'I love you's fill the night.
"I love you more than I ever thought it possible to love another. You remain the most exquisite, most gorgeous person I have ever seen."
He's always very complimentary, always leaving you little notes to remind you how much he cares for you and loves you.
He's a very moral person so he knows that your relationship is wrong. He can sometimes have some anxieties about it but he doesn't pull away from you instead, you're the one who he confides in and comforts him. He knows that it's wrong but it's a wrong that he's learning to be okay with.
He could spend all day just kissing you. His kisses are passionate and full of the words he wants to tell you. He could easily get so overwhelmed and could easily get carried away by simply kissing you. He kisses you everywhere and anywhere he can.
He loves feeling you pressed up against him, loves the feeling of your warm skin against his.
Obi-Wan knows how to make you feel good. He can make you feel good with his mouth, his fingers, his cock but also the Force.
He would absolutely use the force to restrain your hands above your head, pinning you in place and tearing down your defences one by one. He would have your hands pinned and would work his way down your body, licking, sucking and kissing everywhere before making you his.
Obi never realised that he's actually quite possessive. He makes sure that you know that you're his but he also loves when you make it known that he is yours.
He's fiercely loyal to you and you alone. He swears to you pretty early on in the relationship that he vows to be loyal and honest with you always.
He likes when you wield his saber. Of course you don't know how to use it but he likes you swinging it about and pretending. He doesn't know why he likes it so much but he bloody loves it.
He's a cocky little shit; always teasing you in various ways. He teases you when your cheeks flush and you get flustered, he teases you when you're in bed together, he teases how easy you succumb to his advances.
Obi-Wan is protective over you, always worrying about you. If you're ever in danger, everything goes out of the window and all he can do is think of you and try his hardest to protect you.
His favourite place to kiss you is your shoulder, forehead and your inner thighs.
He's a very generous lover, he gets off on making you feel good. He'd spend hours making you orgasm over and over before he thinks about pleasing himself.
Obi loves when you call him Master.
Although a generous lover it doesn't mean that he makes it easy. He teases you, relentless as he fucks you and then stops right before you reach your high. He wants you to beg, wants you to lost all and every control that you have and give into him wholly and completely.
Obi-Wan gets to a point where he doesn't want to hide anymore. Having you, having a commitment doesn't hinder his view of him being a Jedi. He doesn't care who knows it, he wants to shout to the whole universe that he's in love with you.

Tell me all about your favorite WIP!! Give me your deepest thoughts about your favorite ship (if you want to). <3
oh adi you do not know what can of worms you've just opened!
my favourite wip is honestly really hard to choose! but i've been really enjoying working on my jedi!padme au recently because there's just!!! so many little plot threads to connect!!! and i've been having so much fun layering it all together!!!
i think my favourite thing about it, though, has got to be padme herself. setting her as a jedi with a very complex background (i refuse to elaborate but. i am having fun creating Lore for this (deep magic from the dawn of time, if you prefer)) has been really interesting, especially with how she perceives things compared to others. she struggles with her identity as a jedi, especially as she sees the order doing things she disagrees with. in the flashback in chapter two, we barely brush the surface, and yet she's just so angry. her angry comment about being the sith they're looking for doesn't come from nowhere.
she also has such fun relationships with obi-wan and qui-gon! putting her as obi-wan's lineage brother just gives them such a sweet relationship, if very silly at times, and they both have a very deep-seated struggle with the idea of being a jedi. yet they go about it in very different ways - anger vs. striving to be the best. and qui-gon. look. i do love him. but he's not exactly the best at dealing with this stuff? he does care, he truly does, but he's not got the best track-record, let's say, at actually showing it.
and we haven't seen much of it yet, but knowing anakin and his family is going to utterly mess padme up more (in a good way). they are everything padme craves. spoiler alert! the clone wars is about to begin! and padme is going to have a horrible time because the clones are slaves. that is a fact. the jedi using them is a betrayal, especially to padme, and she will not stand for it. i have very complex feelings about the jedi, so i warn you in advance. we also have padme and anakin falling in love, which is as fun as it usually is
my jedi!padme au, at the end of the day, is about family. it is about the complex families and relationships they all have, and how they end up playing out. it is about the family padme came from, the family she joined with the jedi, the family she finds along the way. it is about trust and betrayal. it is about choosing what you know is right, despite everything. it is about choosing light over dark.

Jimmy Smits in Obi Wan Kenobi is a treasure
I have already talk about Simone Kessell's performance as Breha Organa, and how beautiful she did. But I can't stop thinking neither in Jimmy's performance.
I was rewatching OWK today, and I just realized how GOOD Jimmy Smits' performance was, I mean he is always great, he's so talented, but here he nailed it in this scenes in particular.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What this three scenes have in common is Bail being worried about his kidnapped daughter.
First one: he has to clear his throat in order to keep talking, his voice is broken and his face only shows the pain he is in.
Second one: in this one he's not only begging Obi Wan to save Leia, he's also demanding him to save her, he's worried, he's angry with himself too, he's sad and you can see all that in his performance, you can also see how much he adore his daughter.
Third one: this is maybe the most subtle, his tone is a bit more relaxed, not because he's more calmed but because he has to be very clear in the message he's sendig to Obi Wan, how I can realized that? Because of his hand, that gesture with his hand, his at the edge of a panic attack (this reminds me a lot of Tony Stark's gesture with his hand when his anxiety was at the top).
And you may ask, why did I point this scenes? Of course because of his acting, but also because it fits so good with his reaction in “Eclipse” short story. (Spoilers 📢)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we can fully feel and see the pain in him and his reaction to first his daughter in danger and then after being told their daughter was killed. It's not like we couldn't feel it before but now it hits so much harder because we now got to see, visually and spoken, the actors performance in a similar situation.
Other scene where I think he COMPLETLY KILLED IT, was this one.
“One day, this planet will look to you Leia. There are many ways to lead. You just have to find yours” —Bail Organa.
Tumblr media
This is just pure poetry, pure beauty. We got to see the beautiful relationship Bail and Leia had, how lovely he was with her, how supporting, to get to see it after reading Leia, Princess of Alderaan and the manga just makes everything better.
It also conect so beautiful with this scene with (even more) baby Leia and Bail, him talking about her mother's bravery and sense of duty, things that will form Leia in the woman she will become.
Tumblr media
Jimmy Smits understood the asigment so well.

Confide [Obi-Wan Kenobi x Reader]
Obi-Wan is probably one of the most lenient Masters ever and you were so lucky to have him as yours. You cherished each moment with him and always looked up to him. He was so easy to talk to if you ever struggled with anything, he was understanding and gentle with you. Something you deeply appreciated, something many other padawans struggled with their masters.
But this time you weren't sure how he would react.
---
Rushing out of the training room, lightsaber held tightly in your grip as you left the other padawans: you attempted to make you way subtly out the temple. But the tears running down your cheeks, and the bright training clothes were a major attraction for your master to spot you. You'd barely made it 10 steps down the very long stairs before you heard him.
"Padawan. Padawan!" His voice rang out behind you but you kept your pace urging your legs to go faster- so he wouldn't talk to you. "Y/N!"
Fuck. He rarely calls you your name in public. Only when you're alone or on a mission together. Taking a deep breath you quickly swiped the tears away and turn to face your Master- who wore a face of confusion.
"Master. Can I help you?" You forced a smile out as he came to a stop in front of you. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he took in your appearance. Eyes reddened as he noticed the tears which looked as if they had been hastily wiped away. Robes out of place as your arms were crossed over your body awkwardly. Your eyes blinked rapidly as they looked everywhere but him. "Master?"
Master Kenobi didn't say a word but gently took you by the arm and had you walk with him to your shared room. You bit your lip as you let him take you back, eyes holding back tears as he took you through a short cut- almost as if he knew.
You felt like a child again. Back when the other padawans would make fun of you, you'd rush to your Master and cry into his arms all night. He'd hold you and make sure you were okay before gently talking to you and making you feel better. Master Kenobi would make you a cup of hot coco with marshmallows and whipped cream, knowing it was your favourite comfort drink.
The two of you walked into the room, your Master instantly throwing off his cloak and walked to the mini kitchen in the room. You sniffed a bit before making your way over to him, watching as he swiftly wandered from cabinet to drawer. You stood still as you watched Obi-Wan for a few minutes, wondering how he wasnt angry with you before looking down to your feet.
"I'm sorry Master." You sniffled and blurted out, blinking back tears.
Obi-Wan instantly stopped what he was doing and walked to where you stood, his hand lifting your chin up and looking into your eyes. "No little one. Don't ever apologise to me. You have no reason to."
"But I-i-
"No."
"Master- they were making fun of me for being different."
Obi-Wan blinked as he took in your words.
"Lacey said I'd never get anywhere with the way I look. That I'd never be a Jedi Knight- that you would leave me and I'd b-
You couldn't even finish your sentence as you felt the words get stuck in your throat. You let out a loud sob which had Obi-Wan pulling you into a tight hug. "Y/N, listen to me. You are a wonderful and amazingly strong Jedi, one that I am so very proud to have as my padawan. You are extremely talented in ways I will never understand and nor will the other Padawans, but what I do know is that you will go on to be a Jedi Knight. That you will succeed because you are different, because you proved them wrong today- in so many ways."
"But Obi-Wan I almost-
"But you'd didn't. And that's what makes you special." Obi-Wan pulled away as he held your cheeks in his hands.
"You did nothing wrong. You didn't let your anger get the better of you. That is the true sign of a Jedi Knight." You smiled a little as he wiped away your tears.
"As for the the Padawan's- they should have known better. I shall be having words with them tomorrow. He spoke gently before holding your shoulders and walking you to the worktop. "Now come. I want you to sit here and wait."
He made you sit on the worktop as he grabbed a few things and set them next to you. He blinked a for a few moments before actually taking you in. "You're getting too old for me to lift you up there."
"Hey!" You laughed before throwing a marshmellow at his face. "Am not! You're just old."
"Well I've had you and Anakin as padawan, what do you expect?" He retorts before you could even say anything he hands over a large mug. "I'll let you do the honors today."
You held back tears as you looked up at your Master in adoration. You jumped off and rushed him into a hug, arms holding him tightly. "Thank you Obi-Wan."
Those words held much more meaning than just hot coco and Obi-Wan felt it- he returned the hug, placing a gentle kiss on the top of your head. "You're welcome little one. Anytime you need me, I'll be there."

Concept art by Christian Alzmann
Grogu hated missing people. He missed his friends from the Jedi Temple. He missed his masters as well. He even missed the librarian who pinched his cheeks. He missed Kelleran Beq. He missed Obi-Wan Kenobi. He missed Mace Windu.
He’d missed those people for a very long time. They’d been gone for more than half his life in most cases. While he was hidden from the Empire and the Inquisitors and the Emperor himself, Grogu still managed to meet people who were kind and helpful and gone. He was at least as missing from their lives, if they still lived them, as they were from his.
He wondered if they missed him too? Did they smile to themselves when they thought about washing his coverall, only to discover that he’s pockets were filled with snacks and little stones that he picked up to remember the people and places he visited? Did they laugh to themselves when they remembered the first time they saw him eat a critter whole? Did they cry when they thought he must have surely been captured and killed like so many other good people they knew?
He tried not to think about them at all because he really didn’t like going from smiling to laughing to crying. He knew that nothing he could do now would change anything that happened then and that just made him angry and then sad and then very, very quiet. When his dad gave him a strange look because he didn’t understand what Grogu was babbling about, some of the time it was because he was missing those old friends and he just had to run through all the emotions as quickly as he could or he’d just be hugging Din Djarin and weeping on his shoulder. Grogu didn’t want to do that more than once a day and he preferred that time was reserved for asking for more food or a toy…something that would make him happy, rather than sad.
But today was different. Today was a day he couldn’t help but miss people. Today was the 563rd anniversary of the day first Kuiil and then IG-11 left them. Grogu counted everyday since they parted as an anniversary and that was also one of the many reasons he didn’t like missing people. He couldn’t not think of them every day. He couldn’t not hear their voices or see their actions.
IG-11 had said and done so many things. It certainly helped that since IG-11 was a droid, it was capable of doing more things per second that a human or an Ugnaught or a Grogu. Offering them tea. Helping them pack up the Razor Crest. Improving the functionality of the carbonite chamber even if they never got a chance to use it. Pointing out that the blurrgs would travel better if they were frozen. Taking Kuiil’s refusal to do that in good humor. Helping them unpack the Razor Crest. Cleaning up after the blurrgs. It had all been memorable.
Grogu was really glad that IG-11 had rescued him from those Imps on Nevarro. And although he hated to admit it to himself, he had approved of the way the former assassin droid had done it as well. IG had tried being polite and pointing out the issues that required resolution. The Imps couldn’t claim that they hadn’t been warned. They had been. And when they refused to back down and just hand Grogu over, well the re-programmed assassin droid did just what you might it expect it to do.
And that apology. It was priceless.
“That was unpleasant. I’m sorry you had to see that.”
Grogu wasn’t sorry at all and he didn’t find it the least bit unpleasant. If he’d been able to kick sand at those two Imps or snap out a curse or to quote Ian, saying ‘Bet you didn’t see that coming’ and then laugh, he absolutely would have.
He knew what those two Imps had done to Kuiil and what they had done to him and all IG-11 had done was show them that it wasn’t nice to hurt people. They just got a very first hand experience of why that wasn’t nice. Some people really needed percussive instruction. At least that’s what Cara Dune told him.
Sadly, recalling that Cara was off doing some sort of secret mission thing for the New Republic just gave Grogu another person to miss. It was different missing a person you knew would be okay no matter what versus missing people who were really gone. Grogu would take one over the other any day. He could always ask his dad, the Mandalorian, to send Cara a vid of them waving and wishing her well.
He couldn’t do that with Kuiil and he couldn’t imagine what would have to happen for Din Djarin to find another IG unit and train it to be their companion. They’d probably have to travel to Mandalore and find a mythosaur and fight the Imps all over again. Grogu began to giggle.
What were the odds of that happening?
It would take an IG-11 to calculate them, giving Grogu another reason to miss him. Dank Farrik!

The new matching icons, they are too cute. I cannot believe how cute they are! Are they professor and thesis student icons? Thank you for sharing your art with the world!
Thank you for your kind words! I am very happy with how they came out!
The story behind them came from a conversation with @ragnarlothcat (a surprise, right?!) and it goes as follows:
Obi-Wan is doing research on tiny deer (these ones, they are called pudú) in the southern hemisphere (Chile, to be exact). He uses some kind of software to carry out his work but it has a bug that doesn't allow him to actually do them, so he contacts the person who developed it to complain about it: Anakin.
Anakin is a software developer who lives in the northern hemisphere (Canada), and he is very defensive about his programme/app. They argue first by email, then on the phone, and because Anakin cannot understand what Obi-Wan is trying to explain, they FaceTime.
When Anakin picks up, he is so ready to tell this Kenobi person that he is the one who doesn't know how to use his software but then looks at Obi-Wan and he is fucked. He definitely doesn't hear a word of what he is saying, because that bearded scientist is hot and why isn't he in his bed already. The only reason Obi-Wan is not as lost as Anakin is because he cannot lose this argument, but he definitely googles Anakin's name in case this was a catfish situation because a man that pretty cannot be a software developer.
And because Anakin is an insufferable brat, he insists his programme/app doesn't have any bugs just because he likes Obi-Wan's clipped and angry tone (credit to @obi-wkenobi for the wonderful idea). So they continue to call and facetime, and they definitely fall in love over time. Obi-Wan knows Anakin is just playing with him because the bug is eventually fixed (Anakin is good at his job after all), and he finds him charming. Anakin may have called him daddy accidentally over the phone when he was sleepy enough to avoid mentioning it, and Obi-Wan has a horny crisis over it; he may have opened the website to buy a ticket to Canada after hanging up on snoring Anakin. He didn't go through with it though. He had a cold shower.
They meet in a year and probably get married after a month of dating, because they are that unhinged about each other.

The tiny deer thing is because Rag and I are obsessed with tiny animals and have had conversations about them so many times. Also about bears. And tigers. Anything fluffy.
