I apologize in advance because this is like top 3 angstiest WIP I have lol. I am going to put A LOT of context, I guess you can read without it tho ? It's basically a role swap between Claire and Dimitri. Context right beneath, WIP under the cut

So yeah AU in which Claire doesn't want to die and so she starts working on a machine that could stabilize her body, except the machine kinda tampered with the fabric of reality during the first few tests (no real consequences because the machine isn't fully functional yet). Dimitri decides after hesitating for a loooong time that it is getting too dangerous and he goes get Layton to stop Claire. In the end Claire and Clive both finishes their projects at the same time (right before Layton gets there), so to make sure Claire and co would be too busy to stop him Clive breaks her machine. Not spoiling the very end of the AU (already spoiled like 90% lol) but yeah, this takes place after Claire has been trying to fix her machine.

It was laughable, really. She had spent so much time trying to make her machine work, only to figure out at the last possible moment that the generator was done for- and she couldn't fix it in time.

How could she waste so much time in such a stupid way ?

She tore her gaze away from her forever unfinished machine, the one that could have been her lifeline and was instead as lifeless as she would soon be and always had been at the same time.

She had run out of time- she was about to die again.

It wasn't laughable, actually- it was infuriating.

She just wanted to live. She didn't even want a happy life, or a fulfilled one, she just wanted a life. She would be so content with a bizarre life spent solving puzzles and mysteries all the time.

Instead, she was about to die. Worse than that, actually- she had to choose how she would die this time, the only choice she had been given. Would she disappear all alone with her broken hopes and broken body when the time had come ? Would she wait and hope for Hershel to come see her one last time, and share one last moment with him ? Would she try to stop Clive in time and save the world ?

'Save the world'. This was all so stupid. The world she was looking upon had never been the one of her time : all of this was just a glimpse of what she could never have, what could never be. After all, everyone but her had moved on : her choice wouldn't- shouldn't mean anything to any of them.

With a sigh, she closed her hand around the watch Hershel had given her.

"How has Layton not snapped from all the trauma" because his story is that of grief and acceptance. He's known pain and has suffered from it but after many years he learned to move on because life will continue whether he wants it to or not so he may as well make the most of it. He carries the painful memories with him but is also capable of seeing the beauty in life. He cries for his loved ones who have died but appreciates the people he has in his life now. Layton is an amazing character BECAUSE he hasn't snapped.

lied again. it’s also a game preservation issue to me. last year, the wii and 3ds e-shops closed down. i believe there was an effort to archive all the games on there that went as successfully as it could, but that was only games on there available before it closed, not counting games removed beforehand for one reason or another. how many games did we just. lose? because game companies don’t give a shit about preservation, and even less for preservation of games that just aren’t impressive, aren’t meaningful in the way things like. the legend of zelda are.

who in their right mind would dedicate resources to making sure that Rio on the ds is made continuously available for archival purposes, right? but it matters. even the shit games matter. every terrible atari game from when people really didn’t know what the hell they were making, every nes title that probably has its own angry video game nerd rant dedicated to it, and every terrible wii tie-in game that no one asked for. leave it up to the companies who made those games, and they’d disappear. especially nowadays with the prevalence of digital copies over physical ones, it feels so precarious. at least there was some stability in know that there were probably going to be thousands of physical copies made of those past games. take down a digital-only game when nobody’s looking, does it make a sound?

idk. it upsets me, the idea that these things, even as seemingly worthless and bad as they are, could be lost. would be lost, if the people in charge had a say in it.

Neira's is probably the best as in the most neat/legible, and Ari's is the best as in the prettiest (not necessarily legible tho lol). June and Noya are both contenders for worst; June cos she writes too fast or without paying attention, and Noya's just looks messy smh no matter how hard she tries to write neatly

I had curious village as a kid on my 3ds lite and I tried to play it but I didn't understand english at all then 😭 I was bothering my parents to translate the puzzles to me. I still fell in love with the graphics and the music. It's such a good game

I DO!! :D I played those games so much as a kid they're so much fun! The music is SO good I could rave about it forever like the accordion slays so much, its so unique and it gives the games So much character. You can tell the developers genuinely loved working on it all the character art and locations and music is so clearly made by people who just went crazy with the idea, its so awesome. The plot is always so wacky and ridiculous but taken completely seriously by the characters, it's just super fun and also solving the puzzles makes you feel really smart 😎 if you ever want to play there's tons of copies floating around online that u can play on pc ^^
