Greetings to the approximately 5 Daggerfall fans. I keep trying to play Daggerfall, but I can't get out of the tutorial dungeon (I keep dying). I do have Daggerfall Unity installed, and I could technically skip the tutorial dungeon, but for some reason, that feels like cheating to me.

And. I feel like this is probably important information. But I'm playing as a sorcerer. Yes, I know that's probably part of the problem, given that sorcerers have much less health than almost every other class, but I really like magic, okay? I like pure magic builds. Also, I'm really committed to this character because I already have some Lore™️ for him, so I don't want to change my class even though I know choosing almost any other class would give me more health and therefore make it a little easier to not die.

I don't technically have a race completely decided yet (I am trying to decide between Altmer or Dunmer), but I don't think race affects your ability to survive all that much (though I could be wrong).

Anyway, I guess I'm looking for advice? Do you all know any tips on surviving in Daggerfall? Maybe some mod recommendations, too, though I don't want mods that feel like cheating. Maybe just like... mods that allow you to lower the game difficulty a tiny bit, like how later elder scrolls games had a feature where you could choose your difficulty setting. Or something along those lines? Idk I've only ever used Skyrim mods because normally, I play Elder Scrolls games on console...

That actually may be part of the problem, too... I'm just not used to playing computer games

Anyway, TL;DR:

Any advice on how to survive in Daggerfall as a sorcerer, and maybe any mod recommendations for making it a little easier to survive?

hey daggerfall players : is fa'zel just dead ?

direnni tower - no idea how get into this room , feel like just blink and was suddenly in there ! click around but can not find anything interactable to open up either side . no useful spells apart from recall , which fa'zel is too magically weak to even cast , or else this would not be problem . >_>;;;

have plenty of backup save games and no aversion to console commands , so no trouble if need to reload or just TCL out , but would like to ask first .

When you all inevitably realize the Oblivion Remaster is just Oblivion again and stop playing it after 2 hours, how about trying Daggerfall Unity?

Every part of this is 100% free, btw. And it makes a hard-to-run, brutally hard old game into a stable, still-really-hard old game.

But on the plus side, you can levitate onto rooftops while on horseback, and there's pixelated nudity, and the magic system in general is probably really cool, assuming you can figure out how the hell any of it works, oh my god.

You will also want to get yourself a strategy guide for this, because this is a game that will eagerly let you create a broken character who can't beat the game, and not make that clear to you for 6 hours. And then point and laugh at you. Because the 90s was like that.

I've never finished it because it is basically everything I don't like about RPGs mashed together into a giant incomprehensible pile. But I'm also stupid and impatient, so you'll probably love it.

...But if not, at least watch Micky D waste his time doing an unnecessarily restrictive challenge in it. Like this game isn't enough of a restrictive slog. But this WILL highlight most of the positives this game actually has to offer.

The next game that I will start playing on my birthday tomorrow will be Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall, specifically Daggerfall Unity, a Unity engine full rebuild of the game released last year after a ton of work. And it's available for free on GoG.com, which is awesome.

I suspect I will need to adjust to some janky elements of old school PC RPGs, but seeing that this is a modern update, maybe it's a bit less iffy in terms of the age and expectations for RPG complexity of the era.
