hello @galladrabbles ✨ this week’s installment of the concert meet-sexy is inspired by the prompt “i’d rather have you, cursed or not” by @chicanomick - Mickey POV part 3! 🔥
previous | all | playlist (updates every week)
🎶 • 🎶 • 🎶
He can feel him; his presence. Warmth radiating outwards. Heat. He turns, movements slow. Steady.
He’s taller up close. Brighter, somehow. Behind a sultry, desiring look a pair of puppy dog eyes that send Mickey’s heart into his throat.
Shit. Was this a mistake?
No. It’s not. It can’t be. The electricity sizzling between them has to mean something. Not a bad omen. Not a curse. Something else. Something good.
He eyes the man up and down, doing his best to maintain his erotic facade.
“Hey,” he says, tone deceptively calm.
And then, in a voice that melts him:
“Hi.”

not a futch but a butch with some feminine aspects, a butch who fucking hates pants and thats why they wear a skirt, a butch who wears makeup and black lipstick and paints white freckles on their face cause well Fuck I'm cute that way, a butch who adores their friends and is as soft and tender with them as can be
But also a butch who manspreads on the train in their skirt, a butch who swears like a sailor and will curse you out in a heartbeat, a butch who gets their hands dirty without a second thought, a butch, a butch who goes to punk shows and makes sure their kin know they are safe far more than letting the enemy know I hate them, a butch who is hairy and handsome and beautiful.
Not a futch, but allowed to be femme. To be soft. To wear a dress if they want. Still butch, still a dyke, still me.

hmm i think another thing i like abt kencen is chess should be played on a smaller stage. now i am an intimate staging truther for almost every play so i may be biased but that doesn't make it less true for chess. like i get the appeal of the big sets bc of the way they travel thru location and our initial reaction upon literally visualizing chess on a stage, but i think it makes it so easy for characters to get swallowed and for the stage to feel very empty. which may work like. conceptually but i think in practice it just limits the actor's effect. & i know that you can argue that chess is a show that needs to get by partially on spectacle bc of the quality of the book but i disagree just choose a good book. or make up for it w staging and strong character choices. it's not like it has a shallow plot bc it really doesn't it just doesn't have a well resolved one. which is actually another argument for it to be in an intimate space bc it will make the audience feel more personally invested in the characters rather than the story and will care what happens to them even if they leave with questions (does this distinction make sense?). i'm also not saying that chess Couldn't be done well on a big stage i just think most of the time it isn't

Me trying to wrap my head around the fact that on the reputation tour the setlist included songs from all six albums and now she’s doing an eras tour which will include songs from those six albums, the four new ones and some stuff from the vault. Yet somehow the show will still be a reasonable length of time.

VERSE: WHISKEY & NICOTINE
↪ modern.
he never liked the idea of retirement. he's estranged from the deadlock gang — but gun running was all he's ever known, aside from drinking and smoking. so he bought that shady biker bar at the end of 5th street and opened the high noon saloon.
a young colton cassidy is found strapped for cash after the passing of his father and late stage diagnosis of his mother's cancer — following in the footsteps of his main verse, he finds a quick fix in GUN RUNNING. he recruits a team and makes DEADLOCK a very well known name in the business throughout the american southwest. so it doesn't take long for the LAW to get word of a new player in the streets.
they're assigned to a task force specializing in dismantling nationwide gang operations, who watches him and the gang very closely over the next few years, compiling all evidence needed to greenlight a sting operation on what was believed to be the gang's headquarters.
it's considered successful at the time, after partially disbanding the team and taking the then 21 year old colton in for questioning and holding. impressed with skill and mental fortitude, as well as vast knowledge on their current subjects, they offer the kid an ULTIMATUM: join up or lock up.
he chooses the former.
he works on this specialized task force for a little over 10 years. they have their ups and downs, but they get by and get the job done. shortly after getting word of the resurrection of the DEADLOCK GANG, the team is hit hard — assumingly by the aforementioned gang.
the force crumbles — half dead, the rest severally injured, the team's disbanded. colton, having paid his dues, hits dirt and goes into hiding, roaming from town to town for the next several years.
as the heat finally dies down, an investment opportunity lands in his lap. an old, shoddy bar in a middle-of-nowhere town full of nobodies — perfect for a nobody with nowhere to be.
he buys the bar and rebrands as the HIGH NOON SALOON. with a little help from an old friend, bars, in the kitchen, the place is brought back to life, quickly drawing in the locals and travelers alike — and all the TROUBLE that comes with them...

Hi Ralph! I think I remember you once mentioning that you’re from somewhere that’s not American or England or Canada. Somewhere in Australasia? I don’t remember where so I can’t ask as many specific questions.
If the global entertainment industry were primarily based in the country you live in, what would be different? Would it even be significantly different?
I'm in Wellington - an actual city not just a grainy video and a legend.
Your question sort of blew my mind - the idea that it would be possible to imagine the global entertainment might be based in New Zealand is almost incomprehensible to me. I read this to @42mins this evening and we talked a lot about how impossible to conceive it was.
It's hard to overstate how much deeply ingrained popular culture is based on being on the margins of a much larger world and either literally or figuratively about that distance.
Something like Boy - that helped launch Taika Waititi into the global entertainment industry - has the way that people from the periphery relate global culture to their lives baked in. I think Royals was read as being a song about class in the northern hemisphere. But to me it's so clearly about being a bored teenager in a suburb at the end of the world. One of our biggest bands biggest hits (and how we remember daylight savings) is all about travelling to the northern hemisphere to make money touring.
In order to imagine New Zealand at the centre of global culture - you have to imagine it not being New Zealand. New Zealand is the name of a settler colony - and the settlers were defined by the distance from the culture they came from. Every aspect of New Zealand's economy, politics and culture has been shaped by that reality and its not extractable. In a world where a global culture industry could be based on the land I live in - that land is not New Zealand.
The answer that follows that it would be Māori culture on a land where Māori had had tino rangatiratanga. Which is a beautiful, but impossible thing for me to try and imagine.

Yay, happy to oblige!!
"Sharks" by Imagine Dragons:
so let it go, let it go, that's the way that it goes
first you're in, then you're out, everybody knows
you're hot, then you're cold, you're a light in the dark
just you wait and you'll see that you're swimming with sharks
"Flu Game" by Fall Out Boy:
I carved out a place in this world for two
but it's empty without you
I've got all this love I've got to keep to myself
all this effort to make it look effortless
"brutal" by Olivia Rodrigo:
and lately I'm a nervous wreck
cause I love people I don't like
and I hate every song I write
and I'm not cool, and I'm not smart
and I can't even parallel park

From the Falling series... I think the scene where Billy and Steve are high as shit in the car and putting themselves, the way they feel out there is going to be with me for the rest of my life. You could cut the tension with a knife 🔪 AND THEN BILLY JUST DRIVES AWWAY like it'll get him away from everything they're feeling for each other. Baby it doesn't work like that 🫥
Also Billy slashing tires and Steve being like, "For me??? 🥹💐" CaptainBarbossaJustKiss.gif The whole concert scene and Steve's "bi awakening" and telling Billy about it after--DARING him--was so, so good 🥲
asldkjghdsfd!!! THANK YOU! billy definitely has this thing where he has to extricate himself when he's feeling soft lovey ooey gooey feelings, they're far more dangerous and scary to him than anything violent.
