When Liam created a grieving widower he went all in on being a grieving widower.

Orym misses his husband Will so much. He cares so much for him and because of it he is crushingly lonely at night, even when being spooned by his best friends.

But time doesn't sit still for the living. So years go by for the widower. And he meets someone who brushes upon some feelings that he had held for only his husband for years.

"I really miss Dorian and sometimes I think that's okay and sometimes I think it isn't"

The feelings exist, it's undeniable, and sometimes he feels indulgent. But because those feelings are so wrapped up with Will, wouldn't it, in Orym's eyes, feel like a betrayal?

So he feels those feelings and then guilt trips himself over it.

I think probably I'm just too old to really get into Love In the Air. Like, I enjoyed the experience, I'm glad I watched it, but by the third episode I was mostly focused on extraneous details and side characters. Payu and Rain's relationship just didn't intrigue me, and I think because it felt very much like a fantasy aimed at younger people. The hottest, most popular guy in school, the one that everyone wants, is so attracted to you that he tampers with your car to meet you. He's completely perfect, doesn't need to change a thing about himself, he awakens your sexual self, and he falls madly in love with you. You have a mild adventure of getting kidnapped, and this perfect guy is just so in love with you that he lets himself be humiliated to protect you. All is quickly resolved (through his cleverness) and then he tells you that he loves you. All your friends still think he's the coolest, hottest guy around, and they're envious/admiring when they find out that he's dating little old you.

That summary sounds kinda mean, and the show is more interesting and complex than that. There were moments of PayuRain that I really enjoyed! But as far as I can tell, that is the basic plot. (thanks @lelephantsnail for helping me figure this out. sorry if you don't want to be tagged in my judgmental opinions.) I don't ever read Y/N fic, but it feels to me a lot like how I imagine most Y/N fic goes. And I also think that's why the sexual assault stuff didn't bother me, or a lot of people - it felt like it was part of Rain's fantasy of how a relationship would go, so he never really felt like a victim.

Not that I don't have romantic fantasies, but a) they're not this fantasy, and b) I prefer to make up my own fantasies. When I watch a story I want a story. Perfect, unchanging characters just aren't very compelling to me as characters. It can be fun to fantasize about the perfect man falling for me, but unless a show's version of the perfect man happens to match mine exactly, I'm just not going to find him interesting to watch. And possibly not even then.

I suspect that Sky and Prapai's story is going to be the same - it will be basically the fantasy of having a perfect guy fall in love with you/Sky and heal you/Sky from your traumatic past. But they could end up surprising me, and make Prapai a complicated, changeable character of his own!

I'm not by any means saying that people (of any age!) are wrong for enjoying this show. We're all looking for different things out of stories. As you can probably tell from what I write about, I tend to get more interested in the storytelling than attached to particular characters, but that's just my way of interacting with shows. And there is enough nuance here that I'm sure other people can find complexities in Payu that I'm not registering.

Of the things that I miss from the original stream, I think it's Keyleth's rage that I miss the most.

Stream Keyleth didn't tell Vax that everything would be okay with the Raven Queen. She didn't tell him to talk with her and make nice. She was furious.

Vax was what was special, not what the Matron of Ravens could do. All the goddess did was take advantage of Vex's death. She was an opportunist.

I like animated Keyleth, but stream Keyleth was angry to the bitter end and man do I miss her.
