I had a small question for you: I've noticed your body types and details when it comes to characters feel very human. Little traits in body refs come together very well in your designs. Because of how well you can convey these things, I was wondering if there are any OP characters that are more difficult for you to draw? Be it design wise or translating the OP style to your own? Hope this isn't an odd thing to ask haha

Not odd at all, this is a really interesting ask! I always love an opportunity to talk about why I draw things the way I do haha... Also I'm so flattered you feel that way, body variations are something I find really interesting and gratifying to draw so I'm glad people pick up on them and like them too!

HMMmmm... Honestly I find it harder to translate faces to my style than bodies HAHA. There are sooo many interesting body silhouettes in One Piece that I find it more of a fun puzzle trying to translate them! Montblanc Cricket is definitely a challenge for example because his body shape is sooo extreme (dat neck. You know Zoro's jealous) but that's part of why I like his design/drawing him.

I mean okay the hardest Straw Hat for me to draw is Brook LMAO but I feel like that's cheating because you have to be so precise with all those bones. Body-wise... maybe Nami? It took me a long time to decide on what kind of body type vibes she was giving me before I decided she was kind of beanstalk-y but with big boob implants. I try and draw her boobs to look fake on purpose contrasted with, say, Robin or Tashigi, and I hope it comes across. I just think it's in-character that if her boobs got notably bigger after the time skip, well, it's because she wanted big old honkers lmao!

Zoro is also difficult sometimes because I imagine his body changes appearance a lot, not just because he gains muscle steadily over the series, but even on a shorter scale he probably fluctuates between bulking and cutting. I find it enjoyable to draw him at various stages but it does mean he looks inconsistent in my art sometimes and occasionally I worry that people won't understand my intent. Sanji can also be difficult to get the right proportions for because his muscle composition is so unbalanced, like some kind of hyper-cyclist, but I don't want to make him look absurd out of context either.

I'm not a furry artist by nature (despite Everything) so the hardest body types for me to translate are definitely animalistic characters, whether they're Zoan types or Minks! Chopper and Pedro are still hard for me to draw, for example, even if Minks mostly just have humanoid body shapes covered in hair. I have a hard time clicking with them. Interestingly fishmen/mermaids are not as difficult - I think because they're more fantastical, you can be less 'accurate'?

I'm trying to think of non-Straw Hat characters... Honestly I have a much harder time drawing faces than bodies. I'm working on it. I think my headcanon for Law's body type is at odds with a lot of other fans' LOL (same as me seeing Sanji without a shred of ass), I just can't see him as being muscular at all - he strikes me as the type who barely eats enough and doesn't really work out so he's all gaunt and gangly. Kid is WIIIDDEE which is fun to draw but sometimes hard to get the proportions of. One Piece women tend to be harder to translate to my style than men because their canon body types are so much less diverse :/ but I do enjoy it too. Vivi was hard for me to settle on but I like the body type headcanon I have for her now - I just haven't had time to draw it LMAO. Oh, and Yamato can be hard, but for kind of different reasons. His body is so politicised I know I'm going to get weird comments no matter how I draw him. Giving him top surgery makes me personally feel more comfortable in some ways (visibly denouncing transphobes etc) but less comfortable in others (implying that top surgery is necessary to be transmasc etc). But that's a different kind of difficulty. I still enjoy drawing him.

Inorganic shapes are much harder for me to draw so I would say the hardest OP characters for me are characters like Franky or Brook who have bone/cyborg parts! I love Franky's post-timeskip silhouette (sir your A-frame) but I always struggle with his shoulders and forearms because they're not organic shapes so inconsistencies/scale inaccuracies are way more obvious. Sometimes Fishmen designs fit into this category a bit too.

I hope there was something useful or interesting in that answer somewhere! For me personally I would say - based on bodies only - the Straw Hats scale from easiest -> hardest to draw is: Usopp -> Luffy -> Zoro -> Sanji -> Robin -> Nami -> Jinbe -> Franky -> Chopper -> Brook. Usopp is hands-down easiest for me because I take a lot of inspo for him from my boyfriend so it comes surprisingly naturally. (Love u baby)

3. What ideas come from when you were little

when i was a kid i would draw roughly this exact image over and over.

i still draw trees like this if im feeling lazy TBH so theres that. im trying to think UHMM when i was little i was really obsessed w developing powers <- earliest memory is watching sailor moon. oh and i used to play with polly pockets a lot before the designs got really ugly but anyway i used to dress them up in plants and flowers from my backyard as like dresses and stuff which is something that would come up more if i got more into making original content but i love that concept. tinkerbell stole it from me.

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

gyahhh all my besties from op TBH bc i like them sooo much and it makes me really want to capture the very specific like energy and the exaggeration of proportions that i like soooo much in the op style but i find it difficult. i need my art to be sillier and freer.

Started watching anime on a whim

Watched 5 episodes of uh the one about the edgy feral witch"s apprentice and i kept waiting for it to get good and theres some good story ideas but too much of is stupid. Also would have worked better with a female protag. Wow he really is consistently feral rather liked that concept actually. But too much of it is contrived like dude's phone has a command to conveniently unlock all the cells with no restrictions or in general the lack to security checks on weapons. Or really the put the one witch baby tree where the humans can get it? And then protag levels half a city but struggles to kill this one dude. Also anime crimes against women: rape for cheap drama is so boring to watch. Op ed songs were great tho.

Finally watching jujutsu kaisen and over the last few years i have seen sooo much stuff for this show and i still didnt know that pink? hair was the protag i usually see the white and black haired dudes. Oh this is well produced, and the animation is good. I see why people like it. Lesbian. I love her already. Oh black hair ive been seeing isnt megumi its the dude with plugs and hair tied up.

Ep5: ok thats very interesting the dynamic. Megumi's trying to get himself and itadori out alive. Initially tries to pressure ... Sukuna? To regenerate even willing to sacrifice his life then switches to suppression because he has no chance in a fight even if that risks itadori bleeding out. Oh theres the dude ive been seeing he's an antagonist? Also whiplash from itadori dying (im assuming some bs happens that revives him) to school tournament.

What is up with all these dudes ripping their shirts off?? This is like the 3rd time this has happened??

Movie: i like how for once the big monster is a girl. The contrast between jjk 0 and the main series really highlights two genres jjk could have taken. With okkotsu(?) Jjk is a darker supernatural horror thriller with its shy low self esteem protag like deadman wonderland or tokyo ghoul among others there was an era where this style/subgenre was very popular. The second genre with itadori is the hotblooded battle shounen. I actually like the latter so im not complaining just an observation. Also i see why tumblr and twitter like geto.

S2e1: gay. The op end ed might as well be ship amvs

I think I've come around on gojo its funny how the show goes out of its way to tell the audience how good looking he is like girls swarming him or characters commenting on his pretty eyes and flawless skin and then the part i really like how this is contrasted with his annoying personality that no one likes. Its so funny, his coworkers tolerate him at best theres like maybe 3 people tops that actively like being around him. Also he only really started covering his eyes after the flashback arc, i wonder if its because of those events whether its the unlocking 6 eyes (why is it called that) or geto leaving. Because with the blindfold he mostly just looks like a weirdo. I also cant help but wonder if gojo losing sight of his humanity during the tengen incident, like he seemed very... unmoored? meant geto didnt have a grounding point to rely on later. So by the time gojo had figured himself out and how to be a functioning person again geto was already gone.

Scrolled through tumblr and wow people are horny for the deadbeat. Also nanami. The oldest womb dude too but i expected that since he's a half dead looking goth which is just up tumblr's alley. Wow i havent seen a reader insert plague this bad since haikyuu. Go straight girls go (just stay away from me).

39 eyy reached the last currently available episode. lots of active plot threads. i still don't know what was up with chrono(?) or where he ran off to. deadbeat zombi toji has picked out megumi. mahito and whats his face are roaming around. not sure I'll read the manga but i might skim it. the best part of this show is the cool fight scenes afterall.

Was thinking about the framing of the flashback arc op and ed. And they appear so carefree and warm because we're seeing how gojo remembers his highschool days. He's dreaming of days past wishing he could return to them.

“Oh my god, I’m so bored.”

You shot a glare at Jake as you set up the surveillance equipment. He had draped himself over the table in your loft dramatically as you did your work.

“We’ve been here for literally a half an hour. Are you going to whine the whole time?” You loved the guy but weren’t looking forward to spending the next 12 hours with his ass if he was going to be a little bitch the whole time. You bent down to test the camera angles as he sighed heavily.

“I can’t believe you don’t even have a TV. What are we going to do this whole time?”

“I dunno, maybe our jobs?” You were barely paying attention as you made adjustments to the scopes.

“Nah.” He jumped off the table and stretched. “You’ve gotta have something to do here. I’m gonna look around.”

You just shook your head at him as he started wandering around aimlessly, still fiddling with the equipment to make sure you were covering all the exits.

“Ooh, what’s up here?” He started to climb the ladder to the second level. This was his first time at your place, and he was curious. “Shit.”

You grinned to yourself as you settled back in your chair, eyes on the monitor. He must’ve found the weapons cache.

“Oho, is this a rocket launcher?!”

You gave a laugh as you glanced up at him. “Sure is, baby. Maybe put it down though, you’re pointing it at your face.”

“Oh, fuck. Whoops.” He placed the launcher down gingerly as he scoped the rest of the landing. “That’s it? A refrigerator, a bed, and a shit-ton of explosives?” He started to work his way back down the ladder. “Kinda boring. Oh, what’s this?”

“Fuck.” You muttered to yourself as you considered what his new discovery might be.

“Look at this record collection!” He sounded stupid giddy. “Marvin Gay, Roxy Music, so much Led Zeppelin. Y/N, are you secretly cool?”

“I don’t think it’s a secret.” You teased back at him, smiling in spite of yourself.

“Oh, yesss!” You heard him start up the record player and all of a sudden James Brown was yelling over the speakers as the Sex Machine album started.

“Oh my god.” You rolled your eyes at him. “Turn that down, do you want the mark to know we’re up here?”

“C’mon, you know you wanna dance with me.” He had one of those ridiculous grins on his face as he slid across the floor into your field of view, rolling his hips and shoulders to the music.

“You just spent 45 minutes setting up all that equipment, you’re telling me the cameras can’t take over for just a bit?”

You bit your lip as you watched him dancing around your kitchen like a goofball. God he was such a perfect idiot. “Fine, but you tell anyone about this and I’ll stab you.”

“Ooh, don’t tease me, sweetheart.”

You rose out of your chair to join him, gliding across the floor easily, leading with your hips as your feet slid along to the rhythm. Your upper body rolled smoothly to the music, following the motion set by your hips.

“Fuck, you’re a really good dancer.” Jensen was giving you an appreciative look as you kicked your feet in a signature James Brown style.

“You seem surprised, Jake.” You laughed lightly at him.

“I mean, I kinda am. No offense, but you’ve usually got a stick up your ass.”

“Ouch.” You placed a hand to your chest in a mock wounded gesture. “This is nothing though.”

“Really, you’ve got more moves up your sleeve?”

“Yeah, watch this.”

You winked at him before spinning fast and lowering yourself into a split, then rising up as you brought your legs back together. He broke out into hysterical laughter.

“Ok, fine. You’ve officially shocked me.”

“Ooh, I’m full of surprises honey.” You slid closer to him as the song shifted to ‘Bewildered’, pressing your body into his.

“What happened to doing our jobs?” He teased as you started kissing his neck.

“You got me all worked up now sweetheart.” You murmured against his throat.

“Oh, fuck. I hate to do this but…” He pointed at the monitor.

The mark was getting into a black SUV in the middle of a group of motorcycles, getting ready to head out.

“Shit!” You hissed, scrambling over to the radio to call it in to Aisha and the rest of the team. “they’re on the move!”

“Fuck, did you get a chance to tag their ride?” Aisha asked over the comms.

“Yeah, did that first thing.”

“Ok, keep an eye on us while we tail them.”

“Sooo….” Jake murmured behind you. “Should we pick this up later, or….?”

You just waved a hand behind you to shush him as you went over everything with Aisha. He gave a heavy sigh and went to make himself a sandwich. Maybe you had some books laying around somewhere.

It was three hours later when you finally signed off the comms. You stood up and stretched out, wondering where your puppy had gotten to.

You found him passed out on the couch, glasses askew and a sandwich crust resting on his chest as he softly snored, your copy of ‘Dune’ laying open next to him on the couch. You shook your head as you returned the book to the shelf and tossed the rest of his sandwich in the trash. You slipped Miles Davis’ ‘Kind of Blue’ album onto the record player and crawled into his lap.

“Fuck.” He jolted awake when you started nibbling at his ear lobe. “What time is it?”

“It’s 8 PM, dumbass.” You whispered into his neck. “You slept through the whole op.”

How on earth do you draw those smurfs so well?!

Ah, pfft, you're too kind!! Whilst I'm here I'll share some cringe 2019 art because let me tell you I had N O idea what I was doing at first, I'd just come fresh from a fandom drawing locomotives.

To be honest it was a case of trial and error for working out how to meld them to my style XD The original Smurfs are great but I can't be dealing with their bendy legs/arms myself and I wanted a bit more variety to the characters. Does it destroy the initial concept of Smurfs? Probably but it's more fun to draw for me :)

What I actually struggled with at first was the fact I could just about draw humans but couldn't apply it very well to the Smurfs, so my early drawings looked very ... well, they weren't bad for first attempts perhaps but it was clear I was still in a bit of a 'human' loop, and hadn't gotten the hang of oval heads and sort proportions.

Recently I changed the leg shapes to be more akin to the NTOB style which I think has worked out well!

Compare a 2019 to 2021 full body Smurf for example:

That's 2 years difference baby!! Just engaging with and genuinely enjoying the media helped, and putting my own spin on things :) If you want to use the official comic-book esque style that's awesome!! If you struggle with that, like I do, then adapting it to fit the style you prefer is sooo much better in the long run - I love expressive body language Smurfs with wagging tails and drooping ears, something they don't really canonically do all that much, but I love it!!

That's what I get from devoting 2 going on 3 years of my life trying to draw these guys and I have a lot of room for improvement still! But my ultimate take away is that there's no set way to draw them and whilst I'm jealous of people that can mimic the official style well, I LOVE that the fandom has a very varied way of drawing them, it means something can come up on google images or my dash and I'll go 'oh that's x's Smurf!' without even having to look at the op, and that's pretty cool :)

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH oh, okay! Actually I have no clue if that’s why other people ship them? It might be? It might also be that them being the last two out of the group made people consider the ship and then start actually enjoy the possibility of it? I don’t know! Personally SeroMina is one of the ships I’ve been shipping the longest (I’ve been on it since before starting to like kamijirou, actually!) and one of the only three ships in bnha I have a seriously hard time breaking up and shipping around (the other two being ochadeku and bakushima) so I’m reasonably sure my ending up liking them was an independent thought process and it wasn’t guided by shipping other things? But it’s been so long that I can’t really say why I first considered them as a possibility, so who knows, really! Might be, might not!

The reason why I’m still shipping it right now is that I find them highly compatible, that their interactions in canon give me life, and that I just find them extremely visually pleasing - I think I have a very specific way of shipping them? In my head? I have this story about them, or... an ideal way in which I like to think they might happen, and it makes me very happy and makes me feel very warm and it’s just, it’s ideal? To me, the possibility of Sero and Ashido ending up together would make for an ideal lovestory and relationship, it just gives me the fuzzies haha it’s like, you know, they’re very very good friends, and to me that’s the most solid base to start a relationship, and they’re comfortable with one another which is wonderful. i actually didn’t know much about voltron when i first started watching. i only knew about shiro because an acquaintance had posted about his gay announcement but i never checked it out. i actually got into it in a funny way... i was on yt one day and i saw a video titled ‘are keith and lance gay?’ and i was like who the fuck are keith and lance? then because i’m such a gay person myself i decided to check it out and i saw keith and was like... wow that’s a cute boy... then i saw their dynamic and said WOAH. and well... i just started watching and got hooked and i thought everything was neat and fun so i watched up until season 3 without engaging in any fan activities so i had no idea what people were saying...,, then i did and i was greeted with the shit storm. and the rest is history. but i can imagine it must’ve been so fun... the excitement of not knowing where the story will go and getting new content and being in the fandom while it was alive despite everything.... ahhh how did you find out about the show?

SO HERE WE GO

let me talk crazy for a little.....

-the footage of will in the lab is on the 30th 

-the boys are in ghostbuster costumes on halloween day at school which either occurs on the 30th or the 31st.

- will is possibly (we’ve seen a photo but who knows it could also not be him) the other ghostbuster behind dustin in that shot.

-the boys are arguing about something and dustin is the only one to notice something else

OKAY SO

heres the deal, take everything with a grain of salt im just going nuts over this im literally that one meme of charlie day right now. and i know absolutely nothing i just want to speculate. 

We were told by david that they were half way through filming at the SAG awards. This means that madmax through about the storm is done and bits are shown in the trailer, ASSUMING they filmed things in order, but u know what they say about assuming. and things are often filmed out of order.

now lets say the episode called the storm, is when that giant storm appears, cause i know the d bros are the ones to be like lets have this episode called storm but theres no storm whats so ever so im going to ignore that fact and just say the storm happens on the storm.

obviously will somehow ends up in the lab on the 30th, now lets pretend halloween day happens on the storm , and although we saw a photo today with will in a ghostbusters outfit, im not 100% sure thats him behind the boys, just based off the fact that he was in the lab the 30th and i dont think  a boy who “came back to life” and is now coughing up slugs would just be released from a science government lab. 

now the boys are biking away in their ghosbuster uniforms, and someone is missing, so its safe to say will is missing at this point,/ they took the ghostbuster photo earlier that week.

now it is pretty poor quality and its wrinkled and distorted + they are all looking the same direction which makes me think photo op.  just like the photos mike had of them winning the fair. also when will is in the lab is states 3:02 PM so anytime before that is free game that he could have been with his friends. but judging by how hes hooked up to machines and has a metal bar around his head i think it would take much longer for him to get in this state.

Which to say either they took the photo it earlier that week or the morning of the 30th.

based off their biking styles and backpacks, Im going to say dustin is on the left, the person in the middle is lucas and mike on the right. BUT WHERE ARE THEY GOING????

now among wills drawings theres a forest, and the boys are in fact peddling into/toward the forest. is that mirkwood? or is it a new area. Not to mention the giant monster is surrounded by trees. 

Now i know people have been talking about this scene 

and how her head is still shaved, and u right i agree with this. she also has visible veins under her eyes and genuine fatigue. SOOO im gonna say we are going to at some point see a flashback or her point of view after she dissolved the demogorgon. 

im not sure when or how eleven plays into these episode or when she going to be back together with the boys. But i did seem some talk about her and hopper in the cabin episode which to me is sound. But it could also be eleven having a breakdown in the wheelers meaning she obviously blames herself for something and no one is around to comfort her at least no one we can see.

im hoping eleven gets back with the boys soon, but i have a feeling the time will starts to act weird and disappear is when eleven will reappear. OR eleven points out will is acting weird which leads to him being taken to a lab which leads to her blaming herself etc.
