what I’ve learned

It hurts when we make bad choices that hurt other people.

Hurting others is painful when we know it was our fault.

No one is perfect

Even when everyone around you makes you feel flawless, you’re still human, and you still fuck up at times and that’s normal.

It’s not others jobs to punish us

We don’t submit to individuals who feel it’s their job to shame us, and make us wallow in our guilt.

Friendships end.

Sometimes there’s no explanation to be given and we just have to accept it for what it is.

It still hurts.

Rejection stings.

Memories ache, but making new ones is good for the soul.

It’s okay to sit with your feelings, even when they feel icky.

Change is weird and we don’t have to like it but we should try to find a way to embrace it.

It’s ok to be angry

It’s not easy for most to forgive.

Growth looks different for everyone and some people don’t grow much at all.

Acceptance is more than a word, it takes effort.

Being critical is habitual but takes up more space than it should.

At the end of the day your relationship with yourself matters most, loving yourself, forgiving yourself, accepting yourself, and letting go of the shame, the guilt, and the criticism.

Allow yourself to embrace change, cherish memories, celebrate growth, and live in the present moment.

It's as though he reads my heart and leaps into action to help me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The truth is, this babe that I didn't think was possible almost left me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After 6 years of #infertility and then #ivf to have Ry, we were told that was it. No more babies for us. We were so lucky to have our one. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we found out that we were expecting #2, I moved mountains to have the birth that I wanted. I moved our family to Austin, TX while 8 months pregnant because I didn't want to birth in the hospital and wanted a safe #vbac (I know, it's insane, but it's true). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When Kai was 17 months old, he had an accident. We almost lost him. I saw my precious baby boy whither in front of me and I felt #helpless. I put everything on hold for this child. We went through years of physical and speech therapy. We went through regression, tantrums, alternate learning, and lots of patience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He is 10 now. And strong. I look at him every day in complete awe. I am so proud to be his mom. So proud that he comes to me with all of his wins and his losses. Proud that he says he always wants to be near me (though I won't hold him to it, he's meant for big things). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm also thankful for the tribe of teachers that hear Kai's story and help him along on his learning journey. *LONG transparent post* PLEASE....don't read if you want to cast judgement, or if you have your life altogether.... these girls, my two teens, did a photo-shoot on Easter. they came in, wanting me to look at their pictures, and all I could think was, look at them....the BEAUTY. it IS *captivating* until you know their hearts, then it PALES in comparison. They've carried me. I used to cry saying that, but they have. THEY....have taught me the hard lesson of imperfect parenting. That I don't, WON'T....get it right....but they WILL...somehow....someway....they see my heart. When I embrace this....it becomes magical and superhuman.....because....they watched it all unfold. The pain of the past. The hope for the future. They've seen it. FIRSTHAND *and still they love* I don't claim to understand it.
