It's impossible not to laugh at Simon as he lugs the overfilled picnic basket across the park, his hulking form and grumpy demenour so at odds with you and your floral sundress, the pink gingham picnic blanket you carry.

The park bustles pleasantly with those stepping out to celebrate the first real days of the English summertime; groups of mothers with their children and couples with the same idea as you, bottles of fizz poured into paper cups and packs of buscuits shared between them. You manage to find a spot with sunlight dappled perfectly by the leaves of an old oak, setting down your picnic blanket, followed by Simon setting down the wicker basket you'd insisted on bringing despite the inconvenience of it. You're perfectly content as you lay in your little quiet place, listening absently to birdsong and laughter, breathing in the fresh air, cut grass and daisies wafting up and making you sigh with bliss.

Unlike you, Simon doesn't have the capability to relax. He doesn't have an off switch. He's very much aware of the lows to which men like him will stoop - seen them firsthand with his family. It's impossible to shake that residual stress, that fear of being out in the open, (relatively) unarmed, with the person he loves more than life itself. "You're all," You snap Simon from his reverie as you attempt to mimic his edginess, bunching your shoulders to your ears and straightening your spine. "Sorry." He mutters apologetically, perpetually worried about runing your sunny days with the inevitable dark cloud that is his paranioa. "Don't apologise." You hum, shifting so your knees press into the blanketed ground, hands coming around his shoulders, ear resting against the centre of his back where you listen to the steady thumping of his heart. The way he settles into your arms doesn't go unnoticed, lets you guide him gently back intil you're both laying beside one another, his head settled on your stomach, letting your fingers card softly through his hair. He allows himself to relax until his breathing matches the soft flutter of your inhales, looping his fingers through yours as he remembers how to shed his armour - to push Ghost down into the far deep crevaces of his brain, refusing his request to make an appearance on such a lovely day. Ghost doesn't get to feel the sun on his skin and the touch of a beautiful woman. That's for Simon. You're for Simon.

Once you're sure he's suitably relaxed, you shimmy from Simon's grip, not missing the frustrated grunt he gives from the loss of his favourite pillow. You soon halt his grumbling when you unwrap some scones from a cloth napkin, procuring little tubs of jam and cream from your basket too.

You spend the afternoon pink cheeked and happy, sipping at little glass bottles of lemonade and snacking on punnets of fruit or little baked treats you'd whipped up the evening before, revelling in domestic bliss and wondering if perhaps one day you'd be doing this not only with you and Simon, maybe a sweet rescue dog too, and a baby on your hip. You have been feeling a little nauseous lately.

Ok, I haven’t really been around since like October🙈🙈🙈 and when I saw just now that you are going to publish „The prince of Thieves"…ahhh I was so excited you won’t believe it😊😊😊 and when I then saw that you are going to rewrite it and it will be a complete new story my first thought was ‚why it’s perfect the way it is'😊😉 but then I read about your plans for the big main character aka Jamie change and…got even more excited😆😆😆

Because ahhh, I loved Jamie so much in TPOT which is why I always hoped we get to see more of him or even him acting like the actual gang leader he is!!! I mean delegating tasks is all well and good but at some points it felt like Collette was the actual gang leader and he was just the stand in for the public…sorry Jamie🤷🏻‍♀️

And when he once thought I believe it was during the Hatchett interrogation ‚he tried to channel his gang leader qualities‘ or something like that I was like ‚please do so I would love to see you acting as the gang leader you are and show those qualities you sure have'😊

I'm so looking forward to this new version of Jamie and the whole new story of course!!!! I'm going to be the first one to buy it once you get it published😍😍😍

Thank you so much for the kind words, encouragement, and validation! I had originally planned for the TPOT book to come out in 2024, but as you can clearly see, that's not what happened. 2025 is a go, though, and this time I ain't lyin'. 😁 I'm genuinely so excited to get it out there, and while I also lovelovelove the online version of TPOT we're all familiar with, I do think the new version will be a) better and b) more *cough* marketable. Bonus: fewer plot holes. 😅

You might be excited to hear that it actually is the same story, with Will and Bree as the main characters still, but there's simply a lot that's changing or went out the window entirely. I guess I better make a few confessions now, haha.

Big Changes (You'll Probably Notice Right Away)

✨ The story follows the same general plot, but the mechanisms and/or details are often different. It's also two books now:

-> The Mark of Thieves, which goes from the beginning of TPOT to a particularly traumatizing pivotal moment.

-> The Patron Saint of Scoundrels, which picks up immediately from that moment and takes us to the end.

✨ Jamie is an almost entirely new character now. For anyone else who's curious, I wrote a blog post about how I'm making him more deserving of the "IA leader" title over here.

(Fun fact that doesn't matter until TPSOS: our buddy Dr. Allan Armstrong Dale also gets a slight level up in badassery, but not to the same degree as Jamie.)

✨ The IA sigil is a different picture now. (This is one I'm still sad about 😭, but I know it ultimately works better and makes more sene.)

✨ Not everyone has a tattoo anymore.

Okay, there are other things that are different but I think those are the ones that might be most jarring to Tumblr/ao3 readers. The rest I'm gonna keep for a surprise.

As for the "whole new story" element . . . Well, I can't say it's entirely new, but I CAN say that a lot is different, so if you do read the published version, you will be getting a fresh version and not just the same thing over again but in book form. 💕

“Alpha,” Spider says sternly, “why didn’t you just get yourself gone? You heard what he said yesterday. Cops are everywhere these days.” With a huff, she tugs a strip of cotton bandage from her apron and begins to wind it around his swollen hand.

this is very random and highly niche, but in "drunk / in love" (which I adore btw and I reread it again looking for this passage and fell in love with it all over again 🥰) you mention that RC is wearing a dress that Armitage likes and which you describe as "a beautiful black and cream confection" (and I loooooove that phrasing btw like I frequently rotate that description in my mind). recently, someone submitted some images to my historical fashion blog and I was prepping them to post and I looked at one and instantly was like "that's it!!!!!! that's the dress from 'drunk / in love!!!!!!!!!'"

I wasn't sure if you had a reference image you used or what your vision of the dress was (which, if you had thoughts on this I would lovelovelove to hear!!), but this dress was so similar to the way I had imagined it when I read the fic that I simply had to share it with you, so I'm attaching it here in case you were interested!! ☺️

First of all, I'm so glad you adore Drunk / In Love because it's definitely one of my favorites as well 🥰 And I'm extra flattered that you thought of it while doing something else and then came to talk to me about it because this dress is beautiful!! And you're so cool for running a historical fashion blog!! Icon alert!!

I thought I had a dress in mind as a reference but I went looking for it on my blog and it doesn't exist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The closest I can get to the one I was picturing (source)

But with the dress in black and the accents in cream. I'm such a slut for tulle, as well, so I had imagined the under skirt in the cream color and the tulle over it in black. I have no expertise in fashion so maybe I'm just talking out of my ass, but it is something I'm very interested in!

Since I'm rambling about it though, here are some other ideas I have about RC's wardrobe! I imagine the planet (system?) she's from to have a culture that's very high-control and super patriarchal. Typically, women don't actually choose their own clothes—they're chosen for them by whatever male relative is in charge of their care. Most women's clothing on the planet is not designed to be put on without help, with complicated fastenings or buttons made so that women have to ask permission from someone before they can be dressed.

RC's dad would be responsible for her before marriage, but he's neglectful—not because he thinks that she should be allowed to make her own choices, but because he just doesn't care. It's an unexpected freedom that she thoroughly enjoys . . . until she's engaged :/

Somebody else packs her closet for the ship full of dresses they're guessing Armitage would like, in understated color palettes and modest designs, because they're not gonna bother him about it.

Hux doesn't get the memo, though, about the whole clothing thing. For the first few weeks of their marriage, RC is limited to the dresses she can manhandle her way into without any help and enlisting droids when possible. It doesn't come up again until they're sharing quarters and Hux is around when she's getting ready. He finally learns that, like, half of her wardrobe is inaccessible. He's thoroughly embarrassed.

Anyways, then Hux yells at her dad so she can get the rest of her clothes—the ones that she picked out—and let's her buy a bunch of new ones from other planets, even outfits designed by women for women 😱

Here are some dresses I imagine RC in. I like the idea of her gravitating toward highly feminine, delicate, and intricate dresses because that's what I would want to wear, lol.
