Extras and outtakes, including that "oops I put Selma and Lucinda in the same Sentate dress" moment in full.
One's a super feisty fitness fanatic and the other's a 200 year old vampire so idk who I'd be backing in a fight tbh 🤷

Bitten by Witch Fever: Wallpaper & Arsenic in the Victorian Home - Lucinda Hawksley
Hey, did you know it wasn't just Scheele green that had arsenic in it? I didn't know until I read this book, but absolutely any color wallpaper could have poisoned you before regulations and public pressure stopped manufacturers using it. Which is super important background that might have informed my previous readings of, say, The Yellow Wallpaper! Knowing things is amazing!
If I was going to be poisoned by wallpaper, I would want it to be the second from the right on the top row of this spread:
Tumblr media
It's giving Gail Simone's Clean Room, and I'm kind of tempted to follow my roommate's joking advice that I get a tattoo of those...magnolia? flowers.
I saw a copy of this book at Winterthur a couple of years ago and immediately knew I needed it in my life. It has prints of 275 wallpaper samples that have been identified as containing arsenic, as well as 200+ pages on the history of arsenic in manufacturing and consumer use with a focus on Victorian interior design. I was delighted to find that the text was even more interesting and engaging than the samples, and horrified to see further confirmation that we're all just running on the same hamster wheel of history. Evil and/or self-deluded fuckwads are going to keep telling us the arsenic tonic isn't poison just drink it it's good for you I promise don't listen to those damn German scientists...
This is exactly the kind of art book I want more of in my life. And I'm hoping it will inspire me to actually create some art, too.
More of my favorite pages of samples below the cut.
Tumblr media
I want a time machine so I can travel back to interview the folks who chose to put these goblets full of wee vampires on the walls of their sitting rooms.
Tumblr media
At least one artist on Disney's Sleeping Beauty had memories of visiting grandparents who had these on their walls. (My photography is garbage so you can't see it here, but the green leaves on purple background have red glow dot eyes between them for some reason?)
Tumblr media
All of these are excellent, but I love the idea of decorating with Stygian pomegranates.
Tumblr media
These screechy little bird faces I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
Tumblr media
What are these shapes?? If I didn't know this was designed in the 19th century, I would think they were genAI. Some human thought this up, though, and I am so grateful to them.
Tumblr media
Who dropped Pentament into the middle of Beauty and the Beast? (THOSE BLUES THO)
Tumblr media
More pissed off birds for your walls! This makes me want to walk around the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.

OC Facts Tag
Thanks for tagging me, @kaylinalexanderbooks! :D
Rules: share facts about your OCs! I'll do this for the main three Case-files characters:
Yo-han
He's far-sighted
He's a fan of Sir Walter Scott's novels
He speaks a ridiculous number of languages and understands bits of even more
He's aro-ace
He has been virtually everywhere and has solved mysteries in places most people have never heard of
He's Buddhist
He studied law (for just under a year) before becoming a detective
Phil
Her full name is Ophelia Lucinda Patton
She speaks some Korean (picked up from Yo-han) and Armenian (picked up from Davit)
Her mother is still alive, but they have virtually no contact
She's read and memorised at least one speech from a Shakespeare play
She has freckles
Her house is fictional, but it's in a real neighborhood that I regularly drive through
She's Methodist
Leo
One of his eyebrows is noticeably higher and more arched than the other -- a trait he shares with me :P
He plays the violin, writes his own plays, and designs his own sets
He's very good at disguises and accents, and is a good actor in general
He knows the language of flowers
He was raised Catholic and is now atheist/agnostic
He's bi
He retired from being an assassin partly for Phil's sake... and partly because he came too close to being caught
Open tag! :D
Adding The Case-files' taglist: @akindofmagictoo, @sam-glade, @sarahlizziewrites, @oh-no-another-idea, @cljordan-imperium,
@mrbexwrites, @lightgriffinsect, @thescatteredscribbles (Let me know if you want to be added/removed!)

Posthumous Characters GIF Sets → Cassandra Baratheon
Though unquestionably part of the conspiracy, the roles played by the three women had been comparatively minor. For that reason, and on account of their sex, Lord Manderly and the regents chose to show them mercy. Lucinda Penrose and Priscella Hogg were condemned to have their noses cut off, with the understanding that the punishment would be stayed should they give themselves to the Faith, so long as they remained true to their vows. Cassandra Baratheon’s high birth spared her the same punishment; she was, after all, the late Lord Borros’ eldest child and sister to the present Lord of Storm’s End, and had once been betrothed to King Aegon II. Though her mother, Lady Elenda, was not well enough to attend the trials, she had sent three of her son’s bannermen to speak for Storm’s End. Through them (and Lord Grandison, whose lands and keep were also of the Stormlands), it was arranged for Lady Cassandra to wed a minor knight named Ser Walter Brownhill, who ruled a few hides of land on Cape Wrath from a castle oft described as being made of “mud and tree roots.” Thrice bereft, Ser Walter had fathered sixteen children by his previous wives, thirteen of whom still lived. It was Lady Elenda’s thought that caring for these children and any additional sons or daughters that she herself might give Ser Walter would keep Lady Cassandra from plotting any further treasons. (And so it did.)

Kathryn Magnolia Johnson (December 15, 1878 - November 13, 1954) was born in Darke County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Walter and Lucinda Jane McCown Johnson. She graduated at the top of her high school class in New Paris, Ohio, and worked as a teacher in both Ohio and Indiana. She graduated from Wilberforce University with a BA and a teaching certificate. She taught at the State Normal School for Negroes in Elizabeth City before spending a year as Dean of Women at Shorter College, which was the site of bloody racial riots.
Working as a Kansas City high school teacher, she became one of the first members of the NAACP. She left teaching to serve as a sales representative for the NAACP’s journal, Crisis. She became a branch organizer, helping to establish dozens of branches of the NAACP throughout the South. The organization grew in the region that had the majority of African Americans. She began to criticize the fact that whites had virtually all leadership roles within the NAACP. She was let go by the NAACP.
She took a position with the YMCA, where she worked among African Americans. She and co-worker Addie Waites Hunton were sent by the YMCA to France during WWI to observe the treatment of Black soldiers in segregated Army units.
She and Hunton returned home to publish a detailed account of their trip in their book, Two Colored Women with the American Expeditionary Forces. Their account is the most detailed description of the cultural climate in France toward African Americans. It highlighted the ill-treatment of African Americans during the war.
She joined the campaign to spread African American literature throughout the country with Carter G. Woodson’s Association for the Study of Negro Life and Literature, selling a package of works by Black authors called the Two-Foot Shelf that included 15 books published by the Association. She traveled more than 9,000 miles and sold 15,000 books. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Lucia Luthor was the second child born to Lionel and Lillian Luthor.
Lucia was a child who was often bored. Her interest lay solely in intriguing math problems, science theories, learning Mandarin, and anything that made her mind “move”.
She enjoyed gaining knowledge and found people tiresome at best, and annoying at worst.
Her father is just there, & her mother is a gentle encouraging presence.
Lionel was frustrated with her lack of interest & half-afraid she had developmental disabilities.
In school, Lucia was often pestered by her peers. Her apathy enraged many but bullying tactics didn’t work on her. Most of them eventually left her alone.
One day, there was a great deal of noise in a library that distracted Lucia from her studies. Irritated, she looked over to a group of people huddled around something. Curious, the Luthor approached the group. The teens were placing bets.
When Lucia asked one student what was going on, they explained they were gambling on who the new English professor was sleeping with: a student, faculty member, or parent. House wins if it’s none of those options.
After it was explained to her, Lucia decided to try & made the obvious bet. A few weeks later, when one student caught the English professor making out with one of the janitors, Lucia won the entire pot.
Finding it to be a slightly amusing diversion (as well as a way to tell her mother that yes she is interacting with people her age), Lucia started becoming involved with gambling.
One of the other students took her to an underground elite gambling den. Lucia was as happy as a child in an amusement park.
She was delighted by calculating the stakes, observing other players, feinting, and achieving victory through her tactics and mental calculations.
Unfortunately, her father found out how her account suddenly increased.
An enormous row occurred between the two. Lionel was furious and didn’t want a child who might gamble away the family fortune. Lucia was defensive. She never took a blind bet, and she always won unless she chose not to.
Afterward, Lillian gently asked her daughter why she liked gambling so much. Hearing her daughter’s explanation of the mathematics and observations, Lillian gave her some textbooks on stocks and business negotiations.
Lucia was hooked.
Combining her love of mathematics, tactics, & computers, Lucia quickly became an investment expert.
Lionel was both pleased and relieved.
Lucinda, however, had a fatal flaw: being personable.
All the logic and observation in the world, yet her lack of relationships prevented her from effectively negotiating.
One day, she met Carl Walters, a veteran and skilled computer engineer. On the side, however, Carl Walters was a hacker code-named Gravedigger. He was able to dig out his target’s darkest secrets for his clients.
The amount of blackmail he had made him extremely dangerous.
Lionel and Lucia laid a trap for him. The two were able to get him to work exclusively for LuthorCorp.
Lucia and Carl would work closely together. Impressed not only by the man’s skills but also his interpersonal skills, Lucia proposed a relationship with the possibility of marriage. Carl, amused, accepted.
Lionel was furious, but Lillian managed to persuade him about the advantages of a son-in-law who didn’t have divided loyalties & was rather useful to the family.
The pair soon became in charge of their own division of LuthorCorp.
This would continue even when LuthorCorp became LexCorp.
In the meantime, Lucia and Carl Luthor had a very satisfactory marriage. When not doing legal/ illegal business, competing in games as simple as chess or seeing who can hack another corporation’s firewall first became a much-loved couple’s activity.
