hi guys! I hate to do this but the public release of the demo will be delayed and released on September 8th.
Luckily I found an old copy of chapter 2 and have been working really hard to rewrite it again (and remember everything I changed) and trying to work quickly to finish it by today but I don't think that's happening :,)
I debated on going the route of just releasing what I have but I'd rather give everyone a completely finished demo instead of releasing a choppy half-assed chapter 2 that I'm going to end up fixing it up after the release anyway, it just didn't make sense to force it. Plus, I didn't like having people skip chapter 2 to play chapter 3, I did that only because I really wanted people to read chapter 3 since it's been a while.
Sorry. I know it sucks but losing the chapter 2 rewrite kinda fucked me up time wise and work wise. I will try really hard to get it done by today but I don't think I'll have enough time and I don't want to rush it either.
If I manage to finish it before the 8th I'll definitely release it sooner than that!! The 8th is just the latest.
Sorry again! I hope you can understand :,)

Dangerous Man
500 Follower Celebration - Day 5
(Castle In The Sky inspired! Is it obvious I love Studio Ghibli or what? TWS: Reader gets drugged, brief vomiting towards the end)
Working in the mines was hard, labor intensive work. Luckily, you weren't actually a miner, but you spent a lot of time keeping everything else up and running and helping wherever you were needed. It was a great way to pick up random skills.
It was the end of another long day. You had already waved your boss out, knowing he had a daughter to get home to who hadn't seen her dad all day. You had been the last one to leave, only half paying attention as you walked along the forest, heading towards town.
It was strange, completely random. You thought you were hallucinating for a when you saw a something stumble out of the woods in front of you. It was a girl, who then promptly collapsed, leaving you to rush to catch her before she hit the ground..
You were an orphan, your mother died in childbirth and your father had disappeared on an adventure when you were 8. Despite that, you were never alone. The townspeople looked after you and you always had enough to get by, they made sure you learned to never abandon a person in need if you could help. Because of this, you didn't hesitate to bring the girl home. You lay the girl down in your father's old room, making sure she was tucked in and safe before heading to bed yourself. Hopefully when she woke up she'd be able to answer your questions.
.・。.・゜✭・.・・゜・。.
You yawned as you cooked breakfast, never truly used to waking up so early in the morning. The food was nothing fancy, just some eggs with a bit of sausage you had left over. You made two plates, one for yourself and one for the mysterious floating girl. You gently knocked on the door before entering, seeing her awake and sitting up.
"You're awake. I was worried after whatever it was that happened last night you might be out for longer." You handed her the plate.
"What happened? And where am I? Who are you?" She carefully took the plate but didn't touch anything. You sighed.
"I'm Y/N. You're currently in the town of Shipp's Ravine, a small mining town no ones ever heard of out by the coast in the middle of nowhere." You introduced lightly. It wasn't wrong, hardly anyone who wasn't from here or somewhere close by had ever heard of this place. "As for what happened, you kinda just stumbled out of the woods."
"I'm... Poppy. I come from... far away. The airship stopped to refuel and... I ran for it." Poppy answered, talking slow as she tried to remember what happened.
"An airship? We don't get much airship traffic around here. You must have walked really far, the nearest airship dock isn't for three towns over, and it's military run." You said. Poppy grimaced.
"The military can't help me." She eventually answered. "Not with why I ran."
"Why? Did you do something? Are you a criminal?" She shook her head before taking another small bite. That made you pout a little. Secretly harboring a criminal would've brought some much needed excitement to your life and she seemed nice enough.
"This man he kidnapped me. He's working with the military, or at least he has connections with them. I know he's probably using every contact he has to try and find me." She said. You perked back up, your interest and excitement piqued.
"Well if you're trying to hide, Shipp's Ravine is the perfect place. Trust me, very few people even know this place exists! You'll be safe here."
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
You hummed as you skipped down the path, waving hello and greeting everyone you passed. You were heading out to buy some more food for dinner having taken a day off to talk to Poppy.
You were halfway to the market when you spotted him. A man with long blond hair in a clean white suit. Next to him were two armed guards. You cursed under your breath as you picked your way through the crowd, trying your best not to stand out.
Of course it didn't work as you were tapped on the shoulder. You turned around with a bright smile, tilting your head in mock curiosity at the outsiders trying to talk to you. "Excuse me, have you seen a young girl? Maybe around your age-?"
"Yeah! There's Lisa, Diana, Gianna, Lily, Winona..." You started to list off all the names of village girls you could think of who fit the description. The man shook his head.
"Her name is Poppy. She has fiery red hair and bright green eyes. Face covered in freckles." You shook your head.
"Nope! The only girls who fit that description would be Mrs. June's daughters but they're both under 7. Anything else I can do for you?" The man shook his head.
"No thank you. Good day."
"You too sir!" You answered, extra cheerily before continuing your shopping. You couldn't leave empty handed without drawing suspicion as to why.
The second you were done, and out of view of the main square, you booked it. You ran up the path, basket clutched in your hand. Poppy jumped when you slammed open the door, shutting it quickly behind you as you drew the curtains shut.
"The man who kidnapped you, does he have long blond hair? Gray eyes?" You asked, the second you dead bolted the door. Poppy froze.
"He's- he's here?" She whispered.
"Hey, hey, it's alright. I have an idea. I have a friend who works at the rail station. I'll get us tickets somewhere in countryside, somewhere even more rural and out of the way. But until then stay here. Avoid the windows and don't answer the door. If you're okay with it, I can cut your hair shorter so you pass as a boy."
Poppy agreed to let you cut her hair so you'd made sure to wash it out nicely before you started. You'd been cutting your own hair for a while, so you made it look as nice as possible. She didn't seem to mind too much and you even caught her smiling at herself in the mirror later.
"It's nice not having to worry about brushing it for hours and hours." She eventually told you. "I wish I had cut it sooner. Maybe you could get a new job as a hair dresser."
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
The day you left was the day you heard that the military had been getting warrants to search the villager's houses for Poppy. You'd already been dropping hints about taking a vacation so it wouldn't come as a surprise if you left for a little.
You ran around your house, gathering only the most important things. You burned Poppy's dress, shoving her into some clothing you'd bought that was clearly meant for a boy. Once you had those all packed away you handed one of the clothing bags to Poppy.
"It'll help you blend in if we're both carrying stuff. Until we're safely on the train I'll call you Pierre, okay?" She nodded, pulling down her cap more as you walked to the station. The train station was empty and you were able to get a private room for a discounted price for the two of you, all paid in cash. The energy was tense until the train had pulled out of the station.
It was a long trip, one that would stretch through the night and into the next day. You and Poppy entertained yourselves with card games and books and other random things until it had gotten dark out. You went to bed feeling safe, drifting off easily to the gentle rocking of the train.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
It was late -- or was it early? -- when you heard the door to your cabin open. In your half asleep state, curled beneath one of your mother's quilted blankets that you'd brought, you assumed it was Poppy. Maybe she needed air or to go to the bathroom.
You could vaguely make out a silhouette of someone with long hair. Convinced it was Poppy you rolled back over, but the door never closed and the lantern light in the hallway made it difficult to fall back asleep. You yawned, finally deciding to get up and see what she needed when your blood ran cold.
Poppy didn't have long hair anymore because you had cut it. Poppy couldn't be standing in the doorway because you had seen her asleep on the other bench when you opened your eyes.
T h a t w a s n ' t P o p p y.
A sudden pinch at the base of your neck made you whine in pain. You rolled over, trying to stand, only for your legs to give out. You never hit the floor, silently being laid back down as you tried to force your body to work.
The man, the same one from the marketplace, shushed you gently as he watched you try to fight the drug. Your eyesight was blurring, your brain turning to mush and you couldn't move. You passed out right as he turned to Poppy, still blissfully asleep across from you.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
You woke up to a faint humming noise. Your stomach turned unpleasantly and you felt feverish and nauseous. Where you were laying was comfortable though. You were warm and it was soft. You wondered what had woken you up when you finally registered someone shaking you.
Opening your eyes to the dark room you saw Poppy, face covered in tears. She hugged you the second you awoke, crying into your chest. Looking around and letting your eyes adjust to the darkness you realized why. This wasn't your home, nor was it the train car. It looked like the fancy rooms advertised for rich people on airships.
"Poppy?" You whispered weakly. She held you tighter, still silently crying. You looked around noting anything that could be important. It was a large room with two beds, one of which you were laying on. There was a small heater in the middle of the room as well as a table and chairs. Your bags were placed on the table, including your mother's quilts which were neatly folded.
There was a small window in the room, barred from the outside, not that it would do anything seeing as the only view out the window was clouds and the night sky. You looked towards the door, ignoring the way your head spun. It must be a side affect of whatever he'd drugged you with, this lethargy and pseudo-sickness.
"It's locked. Everything is." Poppy whispered to you. "I'm so sorry Y/N. I never meant for you to get caught up in this."
Both of you turned at the sound of voices in the hallway outside the locked door. There was the sound of a key before the lock finally clicked open. It was the man, holding a small oil lamp. He was no longer in the white suit but in some kind of lounge wear, possibly some kind of rich person pajamas you'd never even heard of.
"You're both awake. I'm glad the drugs finally wore off, I was getting a bit worried. Then again, they were military grade sedatives." He smiled calmly, almost like he was trying to be comforting. He was dangerous, no amount of smiling would change that.
"Where are we? What did you do?" You asked. You cursed your voice for not only betraying your fear but also your compromised state.
"Y/N L/N, the beloved orphan of Shipp's Ravine. I asked around about you after our little interaction at the market. The townspeople really love you there, it's a shame you won't be going back. As for lying to me, we can discuss the repercussions of that later."
"Let them go! They never did anything to you! This has always been about me, you don't need to drag them into this as well!" Poppy yelled. The man just chuckled, approaching the both of you.
"My sweet, naïve, little Poppy. You trust so easily and you're lucky this time it turned out well for you. Imagine if you'd been found by some creep instead of some poor child playing adult who wanted nothing but companionship in return." He said, and you didn't even have the strength to be offended at his description of you.
"As for them not doing anything to me, they lied to me. Albeit, they did so to protect you, which is just so precious. It made he change my mind on what should happen to them. Rest assured, they will be cared for, just as you will be cared for. You'll finally have the sibling you always dreamed of."
"Just because you kidnapped us together doesn't make us siblings! This isn't some heartfelt family reunion!" The man smiled and tilted his head.
"Oh, but wouldn't it? I happen to have a letter from the commander of the royal military, which makes it more than just simple law. Would you like me to read it to you?" He held it out of reach when Poppy tried to snatch it from him, a satisfied smirk on his face. "It says, 'Seeing as Y/N L/N and Poppy Demonium lack legal guardians as both parents are either deceased or missing, I, General Kingston Grant hereby give all legal guardianship to one Caspian LaRue.'"
Those words proved to be the final straw for your stomach as you hunched over, gagging as you threw up on the floor beside you before slumping over onto Poppy.
"Oh dear. I suppose I should've guessed that such a large dose would've been too much for your body to handle." He murmured. You could only cry as you closed your eyes, trying to stabilize yourself.
You didn't even know when he'd called in cleaning staff, but they were already there when you opened your eyes again, leaving quickly once it had been dealt with. Poppy cradled your body close, protectively glaring at Caspian when he approached the bed and sat down beside you.
"You'll feel better in the morning. We can have a real talk then. Good night Y/N." He brushed some of your sweat stuck hair off your forehead before turning to Poppy. "Good night, Poppy. Sleep well."
He turned to leave, grabbing his oil lamp from where he'd set it, when a small smile crossed his face as he stood in the doorway. "Poppy, short hair suits you. Even if you did cut it for a silly reason." With that, the door closed and locked behind him and the two of you were left alone in the dark to ponder your new lives.

I Can Handle It - Law
Summary: you’re a Straw Hat with Law in Wano. Grumpy dom Law won’t let you on top, makes you regret it when you convince him to let you.
Pairing: Trafalgar Law x Afab!Reader
Genre: smut
CW: dirty talk, unprotected sex (whoops), daddy Law
Word Count: 1,934
———
“Traffy, please.” You caught his gold hoops between your teeth and tugged as he undid the belt around your waist and tossed it aside.
“No.” Law tried to pull his ear out of your mouth as he pulled open your kimono, pleased to find nothing beneath it but your silken skin. In the dim moonlight shining through the window, he could only just make out the swell of your breasts and color of your nipples, the smooth skin of your stomach and the curve of your hips.
Perfection, he thought, relieved that captain of yours wasn’t interested in keeping you all to his greedy self.
“Traffy,” you whined again. You lay on the thin mattress on the floor with the War Lord hovering over you, his hat discarded by the door to the room, your limbs tangled with his more muscular ones the second everyone else went to bed.
“I said, no.” He lifted a hand and batted your mouth away from his ear, though he missed the warmth as soon as he did. Luckily, you reattached your lips to his thick neck in a second, happily running your tongue over his muscles and tendons, marking up his smooth, tan skin. He was almost embarrassed by how quickly he had grown accustomed to fucking you each night, your lips attached to his neck every time, his mood sour if you skipped a night.
“I don’t understand why you won’t let me on top.” You pushed on his heavy body, twice the size of yours. You were caged between his arms and legs, his tattooed chest blocking most of the moonlight filtering in through the window. You had tried flipping him over several times, had tried biting him and distracting him and doing all sorts of things to gain the advantage when you two were together, but every time, he just pinned you back beneath him and bottomed out inside you. And you were powerless when he did that, your eyes rolling into the back of your head as he worked the tension out of both your bodies.
“Because.”
“Because why?” You tried shoving him off of you again, though only half-heartedly. The embarrassing truth was, you’d accept whatever Law gave you.
Trying to ignore you, he grabbed one of your breasts and squeezed. He kneaded the soft flesh a few times before moving to the other one. It was exactly what he needed, your intimate parts exposed to him. He’d quickly become addicted to the way your body calmed his, the way you relieved his tension like a human stress ball.
But just as he dipped his head low to trap your perky nipple between his lips, one of his favorite things to do to you, you shifted beneath him.
“Law.”
Law gave a heavy sigh. He dropped his head between your breasts, brows furrowed. “It’s been a long day, y/n-ah. Can’t we just-”
“You never let me on top,” you interrupted. You bit his ear again, this time ignoring the gold hoops and clamping your teeth down directly onto his earlobe.
“Ugh.” He batted you away again. “All you Straw Hats do is ride rough shod over me. I can’t possibly be expected to also roll over when I’m fucking you.”
“It’s not like that,” you whined, going for his earlobe once more. “Please, Law, I really want to. I can handle it, I promise. And I won’t bother you for it again. Just this once, let-”
“Fine.” He pulled off you and fell onto his back, letting out another heavy sigh as he resigned himself to your pleas. “You can ride me.”
You pulled back from his ear and blinked in surprise. “Really?”
Law grunted. His heart hammered in his chest, the erection between his legs throbbing painfully. He wasn’t sure why he was so desperate to get off seeing as though you’d been together just the night before, and every night before that for the past two weeks, but he felt as though he hadn’t orgasmed in months.
“Hurry up already,” he snapped at you, wearing a grimace on his face.
You didn’t need to be told twice. You climbed on top of him with an eager smile and sat down on his erection, gasping when you felt it push into you. Your eyes almost rolled into the back of your head from that alone, but you managed to stop them from doing so. Law already thought you couldn’t handle being on top, and you didn’t want to prove him right.
You began kissing his neck while your fingers worked to undo his kimono. You took advantage of your increased access to his body, splaying your hands out over his chest when the garment came off and sliding them down his abdomen, feeling all of the defined muscles on his body. His skin was soft and warm, his tattoos mapping out endless paths for you to trace.
“I said, hurry up.”
“Grumpy,” you muttered, moving below his hips. You sank your teeth into your bottom lip at the sight of his cock, thick and hard, veiny with a slight curve in it. You wanted to press a few kisses into his heavy balls before wrapping your lips around the flushed tip of his cock, but you were as eager as Law to get off, so you raised yourself up and aligned the tip with your wet entrance, moaning as soon as his cock brushed against you.
Bracing one hand on his muscular chest and using the other to guide his cock into you, you slowly sank down. You quivered around him, eyes wide from the stretch. You thought his cock might feel bigger with you on top, but you had never imagined it might feel this much bigger, almost too big to take.
“You said you could handle it,” Law reminded you, not reaching up to play with your tits like you thought he would but instead putting his hands behind his head and watching you expectantly. It made your cheeks flush with embarrassment.
“And I can.”
Though it was almost too much, you began moving up and down, your tits bouncing as you rocked your hips against his. You couldn’t take that last inch, but you took enough of him you thought for sure he would be a panting mess like you were. But when you looked down at him, you saw he wore his poker face, looking up at you with a neutral expression. You gritted your teeth and went a little faster in an attempt to make him break, but to no avail. The Warlord just watched you with a slightly skeptical look in his eyes.
“Rub your clit.”
Your eyes widened. “What?” You paused to brush a strand of hair from your sweaty forehead.
“I said, rub your clit.” He huffed. “You’re really not listening tonight.”
“I am listening,” you snapped back, “but I’m a little busy right now. Do it yourself.”
Law raised an eyebrow. “And here I thought you could handle it.”
“I can handle it!” You made a frustrated sound and began rocking your hips again, this time putting one of your hands between your legs. As soon as your finger touched your clit, your legs shook. You tried to recover quickly, but from the sound Law made- something like a chuckle- you knew he saw you almost collapse on top of him. Gritting your teeth, you continued rubbing your finger over your clit, trying your hardest to swallow your whines and whimpers.
“This isn’t working,” Law told you, finally pulling his hands from behind his head and placing them on your hips.
You shuddered at the feel of his warm, calloused palms against your bare skin, feeling the first trace of your orgasm, your body good and ready for you to cum. “It most definitely is.”
Law pulled your hand away from your clit and trapped it in his. “You’re tiring yourself out too quickly. If I wanted a quickie, I would have pulled you aside while everyone else had dinner and fucked you then.” With those words, putting the scandalous idea into your head, he pushed you even closer to the edge.
“Traffy.”
“You know you’re not supposed to call me that,” he scolded, tightening his grip on you. He pulled his legs up so they were no longer straight in front of him, bracing himself with his feet. You felt his muscles coil, and you braced for him to flip you over. But he didn’t. Instead, he began fucked up into you.
“Oh, fuck.” You keeled over pathetically, bottom lip quivering.
“See,” Law said, thrusting into you again. “I knew you couldn’t handle it.”
“Shut up.”
“And now you’re getting bratty.”
“I am not getting bratty.”
“You are.” He continued thrusting into you at a slow but steady pace. “What do you call me, huh? What do you call me?”
You opened your mouth, but the only thing that fell from your lips was a moan.
His hand left your hip and came down on your ass with a loud smack. “Say it.”
“Daddy.” Tears pricked at your eyes. “Daddy, please.” You managed to pick yourself up and look down at him, only in time for him to smack your ass again, this time much, much harder than he did before and set a merciless pace with his thrusts.
A yelp loud enough to wake your nearby sleeping crews escaped your lips. You clamped your hand over your mouth. You braced the other on his chest, but it wasn’t enough to hold you up as Law pounded into you, and you ended up curled into his chest with your nails tearing into his tattoo. You whined and whimpered, the sounds just barely muffled by your hand.
“I guess I could let you on top more often,” Law grunted. “I didn’t realize you’d fold so easily. Like a rag doll.” He never talked dirty to you, barely even moaning when the two of you were together. The words were sharp and poignant, cutting right through you.
You clenched around him. “Oh, daddy. Fuck.” You keeled over on top of him, pressing your forehead into his hard chest as your orgasm worked its way through your body, your limbs spasming and your cunt clenching harder around his cock. “Fuck, fuck, fuck.” You screwed your eyes shut as they rolled into the back of your head. Your fingers twitched against his chest.
Law didn’t stop. He fucked you dumb, letting out his pent up frustration. He finally reached up and played with your tits like he’d been wanting to do the entire time you were on top of him, twisting your nipples perhaps a little too hard. He could see your bottom lip quivering, could tell you’d never cum so hard on his cock, but he just couldn’t stop, especially not when you kept chanting the same word over and over.
“Daddy. Daddy. Daddy.”
He held back his orgasm as long as he could, but it wasn’t too long before the rubber band in his belly snapped and he shot his load deep inside you, emptying his balls with a few uncharacteristically loud grunts.
You collapsed on top of him, both of your heaving chests pressed together, a sheen of sweat on your skin. You could feel his cum seeping out of you, but you didn’t have it in yourself to care, not with your legs still so weak.
“Might have to try that again,” Law admitted after a minute, wrapping his arms around you.
You could only hum in agreement.

Vi with a virgin reader, who is nervous and also insecure about her body and vi is just sooo soft with her
╰┈➤Just You and Me ・゚: *✧・゚:*
Tags: (watching) Pornography, soft, plot withought porn, fluff, comfort, dating AU, insecure reader, virgin reader
The rain pattered softly against your window— another day trapped inside because of the unfavorable weather. You were currently curled into your girlfriend’s side, legs tangled, and faces dimly illuminated by the blue light coming from Vi’s cracked MacBook— half-watching some dramatic television, though neither of you was really paying attention.
You’ve been dating Vi for a few months now. It’s been easy in that complicated, thrilling way. like your body relaxes when she’s around but your heart keeps skipping beats anyway. You’ve kissed. You’ve made out. But she’s never pushed things further, and you’ve been grateful for that even though you’re starting to think about it more lately.
On the screen, a straight couple starts hooking up. Apparently it was important to the plot but gods if it didn’t make you queasy. It was sloppy, fast, and awkward and luckily the scene changed just as you started to shift beneath the blanket you and vi shared. She glances over her shoulder at you, scarred lip curling into an amused smirk as she finally breaks the silence.
“Gods- who even kisses like that? They’re just mashing faces-“ She mutters, shaking her head in disapproval, clearly unimpressed.
“Right- it’s just so… aggressive.” You chuckle but it comes out drier than you intend. You’re nervous and your attentive girlfriend picks up on it all too easily.
She glances over towards you once more , clicking the spacebar to pause the current scene, clearly more interested in your take. “Yeah? You not into that sort of thing?”
You pause for a moment, Licking your lips thoughtfully before responding. Unsure.
“I don’t know.. it just looks like it hurts more than anything.”
Vi tilts her head, watching you now instead of the paused screen. “You ever actually watched any, like…y’know, actual porn?”
Your cheeks warm, and you force yourself to look away for a moment. Heart thumping like a jack rabbit in your chest. Trying— and failing— to play it off.
“I mean… not really. Not the whole thing. Mostly just skipped through.”
Vi grins a little at your awkwardness but doesn’t make fun, it was part of what she liked about you after all. “Wanna try? Just to see if it’s as dumb as that scene?”
You hesitate for a long beat but then nod hesitantly. “Okay. Just… don’t laugh at me.”
She leans over, nudging you gently with her shoulder, icy blue eyes warm with teasing affection in a way that melted your inhibitions instantly. “Never.”
*✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
It takes some searching through sketchy websites— but you both eventually agree, clicking on a video that looks vaguely professional. It starts off simple, two girls in some sort of office setting- it almost seems like a genuine TV show for about the first thirty seconds, then it was all fast paced— blazers hitting the floor, spanking, rough hands, and moans so wanton you had to resist the urge to cover your ears. Your stomach tightens as your shoulders tense. You keep watching but you’re not into it. You’re trying to understand it.
“…Hey,” she says softly, reaching to pause the video, one girl frozen mid orgasm. “You good?”
You nod too quickly. “Yeah. Yeah, I just… is that what it’s actually like?”
Vi turns to face you more fully, one knee bent up on the couch, expression softening like clouds passing in front of the sun.
“…Not always,” she says carefully. “It can be like that, sure. But it doesn’t have to be. Why?”
You bite your lip firmly, eyes flicking down to your hands in your lap. You pick at a thread in the fuzzy blanket. You weren’t planning to say anything tonight. you hadn’t even thought about saying it. But now, with Vi sitting so close and looking at you like that, not judging, not pushing, the words start to rise up on their own.
“I’ve never… I mean, I haven’t…” You stop and start over. “I’m a virgin.”
You feel your girlfriend still beside you, not shocked or angry, just listening.. harder.
You rush to keep going, as if saying it fast enough will make it easier.
“I guess I’ve been kind of avoiding stuff because I didn’t know how to bring it up. And it’s not that I don’t want to—I mean, you—it’s not that I don’t want you. It’s just…”
Your throat tightens with emotions you’d hardly realized you’d kept bottled up. Warm tears pricking the corners of your eyes.
“I don’t really like the way I look. Or how I’d look, you know… like that. Without clothes. Up close. I’ve always felt kind of awkward, and I guess I got it in my head that maybe you’d think it was weird or be disappointed or something.”
You finally glance up, expecting discomfort or pity or worse — but Vi’s face is so gentle it nearly undoes you. A snort sniffle escaping you as you fought to stay composed.
She doesn’t speak right away. She just reaches out slowly and tucks a bit of hair behind your ear, her fingertips lingering at your jaw for just a moment. Almost like she’s afraid of you pulling away.
“You really thought I’d be disappointed?” she asks quietly, almost like it hurts her to think it.
You nod, barely.
Vi lets out the softest breath, like she’s trying not to overwhelm you with how much she cares. Her voice drops low, steady, and warm as a kiss on the cheek.
“Hey. Look at me.”
You do. Being met with the softest most genuine smile you think you’ve ever seen. She’s forgotten the computer now to face you fully. Her hands moving down to hold yours in her own.
“I think you’re beautiful. Exactly how you are. And that—what you just told me? That means everything to me. You don’t have to rush anything. Ever. But if we do go there someday, I promise it’ll be nothing like those videos. It’ll be us. And I’ll take care of you.”
She gives your hand a light squeeze, those faint freckles on her cheeks scarcely visible in the dark lighting.
“No pressure. No performance. Just you and me.”

Dean Winchester is a stubborn man. You’ve known this since the day you met him, and yet, every time he gets himself hurt, he somehow manages to surprise you with just how hardheaded he can be.
“I’m fine,” he grumbles, wincing as you press a damp cloth to the gash on his temple. His green eyes avoid yours, but the telltale twitch in his jaw gives away his discomfort.
“Sure, you are,” you reply, your voice flat. “That’s why you were swaying like a drunk on a tightrope when you walked in here.”
He huffs but doesn’t argue. Instead, he sits on the edge of the motel bed, his shoulders slumped and lets you clean the wound. It’s rare for Dean to let someone take care of him—rarer still for him to sit still while it happens.
“Could you hold still?” you ask, raising an eyebrow when he flinches under your touch.
“Your hands are cold,” he mutters, sounding more like a petulant child than the seasoned hunter he is.
You bite back a smile, dabbing at the cut gently. “You’re lucky I have steady hands. Or should I let Sam stitch you up next time?”
That earns you a low chuckle, his lips twitching into a half-smile. “I’ll take my chances with you, thanks.”
The silence between you is heavy but not uncomfortable as you work. The warm glow of the bedside lamp casts soft shadows on his face, highlighting the lines etched by years of hunting, of carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
“You really scared me today, you know,” you say quietly, focusing on wrapping the bandage around his head.
Dean’s eyes flick to yours, guilt flashing across them before he looks away. “Didn’t mean to,” he says softly. “Things just got... messy.”
“That’s one way to put it,” you murmur, tying off the bandage. You lean back to survey your work, satisfied that the wound is cleaned and secure. “You’re all patched up now, but you’re not off the hook. You need to rest.”
Dean snorts, leaning back on his elbows. “Rest? Come on, sweetheart. There’s no rest for the—”
“If you say ‘the wicked,’ I swear I’ll make you sleep on the floor,” you interrupt, hands on your hips.
His grin is wide and boyish, the kind that makes your heart skip a beat despite your exasperation. “Yes, ma’am.”
Shaking your head, you grab a bottle of water from the nightstand and hand it to him. “Drink this. And no beer until you’ve had some actual sleep.”
Dean takes the bottle, his fingers brushing against yours. He’s quiet for a moment, his gaze lingering on your face. “Thanks,” he says, his voice low and sincere.
“For what?”
“For putting up with me,” he says, a sheepish smile tugging at his lips.
You roll your eyes, though your heart swells at his rare moment of vulnerability. “Somebody has to. Now lie down before I knock you out myself.”
Dean chuckles, but he does as he’s told, stretching out on the bed with a groan. As you pull the blanket over him, his hand catches yours, his grip warm and firm.
“You’re a lifesaver,” he murmurs, his eyes already fluttering shut.

Summary: Being stood up when you have the absolutely perfect anniversary date planned would be enough to send anyone spiraling and make them question if anything is even worth it at this point. Luckily for you, the perfect loverboy is willing to sweep you off your feet and show you a good time to help you make a decision.
Warnings: Explicit Language, Explicit Sexual Content (everyone involved is above the age of consent), Cunnilingus, Face-Sitting, Penis In Vagina Sex, Cowgirl Position, Semi-Public Sex, Cheating/Infidelity
A/N: Ugh, I am so fucking sorry. I had this thing like, 75% done on my Docs, and then something else on my life took complete chokehold on me and I couldn't make any progress on it at all for several days. I promise I'll try to write quicker and post more often in the future. Next up on the chopping block (I'm not actually chopping him up, though he deserves it) is Kyley-B, for a request (I'm taking those now) (Also sorry to the follower for taking so long to get to it I am a disgrace)
“Come on… Come on… Pick it up, will you…”
Clutching my phone in my hands firmly, close to my face as I stared at it with my eyes drifting between the ‘Call’ screen and the battery icon, I paced back and forth on the sidewalk. The sun shined bright and beautiful in the sky, still my mood was anything but - the nerves were exponentially starting to get to me, and I was on my last line.
It was supposed to be my two-year dating anniversary with my current boyfriend, and I had the whole day planned to perfection. Taking advantage of the fact that the weather forecast was announcing a very warm and sunny day - which is rare for our town -, I planned to spend the whole day with my man, starting off with a whole picnic in the park around the local pond. I was wearing my prettiest floral sundress and had a whole basket full of goodies to be enjoyed under the sunlight. Had made sure to arrive early and wait in a place that was of easy access for both me and my partner so we could walk to our destination together. It was all perfect.
Perfect, except for the absence of my other half.
For three hours now I had been waiting, sitting on a bench near a local restaurant that I usually frequent for lunch on workdays, looking around all the time for any signs of him, and he had not arrived. I called and called with my phone but they all went to voicemail, sent a bunch of texts that stayed on delivered - and worse, my battery was now close to dying out, since I forgot to charge it before I left, not thinking it was important since I didn’t plan on spending so much time on my phone anyway. It was currently running at 4% as I tried to call him as many times as possible before it died out and I had to think of another plan.
My heart skipped a beat as the call was answered.
“Baby? Baby! Where are you?” I exclaimed as I put my phone to my ear, my agitation clear on my voice.
“Mmmmm… Hey, babe… What’s up…” An extremely groggy version of my boyfriend’s voice came through the phone’s speakers, not nearly close to matching my anxiety.
“What do you mean, what’s up? Where are you?” My mind already had a faint idea of the answer, but I had a sliver of hope in my heart that it might be wrong.
“Huh… In bed.”
Of fucking course. “In bed? How? It's almost 2pm! We were supposed to meet three hours ago!” It was not my intention to scold him, but in my exasperation it sounded exactly like that.
A few seconds of silence from the other side of the call as my partner seemingly processed the information. “Damn… Sorry, babe. I stayed up late gaming with the boys and slept through the alarm.” He sounded slightly less groggy now, like my revelation was a shock to his brain, but not by much.
“I called you so many times, though!” I countered, “Why didn’t you pick those up?”
“Yeah, sorry about that. I thought it was telemarketing or something.” His voice didn’t carry a hint of remorse.
I took a deep breath, trying not to scream or make a scene right there on the street. The day was so beautiful, I just didn’t wanna waste it arguing. “Well, you’re still coming, right?” I asked, trying my best to sound patient and less accusatory. “Can you give me an ETA or something?”
“Babe, let’s just… Let’s just take a rain check, alright? It’s late already.” He sounded as nonchalant as could be as he said that, as if the thing he was cancelling wasn’t our literal anniversary date. “I promise I’ll make it up to you some other time.”
“It’s our anniversary, baby! I’m already here! What do you-”
With a jolly ringtone, the call was cut short. I put my phone in front of my eyes just in time to see the animation of it turning off on the screen, my battery breathing its last before the device died completely.
And then there was just me.
In small, shaky steps, I made my way to a street bench nearby and sat down, setting my picnic basket to my side and watching with glazed eyes as the cars went by on the street, still clutching my phone in my hand. After waiting for so long, making excuses for my boyfriend’s tardiness on what was supposed to be a date to celebrate the day our relationship started, a date I planned from beginning to end and made sure was completely flawless, it all went to shit in the span of one phone call that didn’t even get to end because I ran out of battery before it could. I was left alone, heartbroken, stressed and with no way of going back home except on foot.
Allowing myself to have at least one thing I wanted, I lowered my face, hiding it with my hands, and let the tears roll fast and plentiful. My whole body shook as I sobbed, all the nerves of the day taking physical form in the salty droplets running from my eyes, as I recalled not just how much of a bad current situation I was in, but all the previous disappointments in my relationship that I swept under the rug because of love. And, deep down, I knew I was likely to let the broom of my self-neglect swipe this one, too.
For what felt like forever, this was all that I had. One of the prettiest outfits of my life, a basket full of food, painful memories running through my mind, tears that didn’t seem to be able to stop running down my cheeks. Until I got something else.
“Hey… Ma’am? Miss?” A gentle male voice called near me, seemingly out of nowhere, bringing me back to the world of the living, so to speak. “Can I help you? Do you need anything?”
I shook my head, still not looking to the source of the sound, now feeling deeply ashamed of myself. Engrossed in my own feelings, I forgot this was still public space and someone was bound to question me at any time, considering how nosy people in this small town tend to be. “I’m fine,” my voice cracked a bit as I said it.
“I am pretty sure you aren’t,” The voice responded, with a sliver of irony, but still gentle, like he wanted to make sure I knew he wasn’t laughing at me. I felt a hand on my bare shoulder - calloused fingers shook it with just as much kindness as I heard in the voice behind them.
“It’s alright, sir,” I sniffled while trying to steady my voice, hoping my fake reassurance would be enough to make this unknown person leave already. “I’ll be leaving soon, don’t worry about it.”
“‘Sir’ is my dad,” He chuckled, “My name is Kenny. At least to all the pretty girls. So call me Kenny.”
His response took a small giggle out of me, even if my whole mind found it inappropriate to do so considering the circumstances. Whoever it was that tried to talk to me was actually making an effort to make things better, not just ask questions out of obligation or curiosity. Slowly, I wiped my tears away with my hands, answered him with my own name and lifted my face up, trying to put an image to ‘Kenny’. And put an image to it I did.
It was almost like the head and body of two different action figures smashed into one. From the neck down, it was simple and rather elegant. The man wore all black, as was common for that restaurant’s waiters; The usual dress shirt with the restaurant’s logo had its first two or three buttons open, making it just slightly more stylish. The charcoal gray apron wrapped around his hips was perfectly spotless like it had never been worn before, and he wore a pair of dress shoes that seemed to have been recently shined.
Once my eyes went up, though, everything seemed to change. His blond hair was styled in some sort of shaggy mullet. The very visible dark circles under his eyes came as a stark contrast to his laid-back posture and the youthful energy I just felt emanating from his body. On the matter of his eyes, I couldn’t pinpoint their color for the life of me; Some trick of the sunlight was clearly at play in them, because in some angles they were blue and in others I could’ve sworn they were lavender. Some tiny reddish nicks speckled his jawline and chin, likely from shaving and not doing a very good job at it. When his mouth was open, I could see that his teeth were slightly crooked, and he had a bit of a gap between the front two on the top row.
The things that were the most startling about his appearance, though, were the scars and piercings on his face, and those he had several of. I could count two eyebrow piercings, a nose ring, a single earring on his right ear and an industrial bar on the other that seemed to still be healing. On the matter of scars, all of them were healed and faded, but screamed gruesome stories; One on his upper lip that went up to end at the side of his nostril, another one on his temple, and a third, the biggest, started on the right side of his jaw and went all the way down to the start of his neck.
To be honest, I liked the look of the top part more than the bottom.
As he saw me looking up at him, the corners of his lips curved into a smile, a genuine one filled with kindness. “Wanna talk to someone about it?” He asked as he pushed my picnic basket on the bench away and sat to my side, leaning forwards with his face towards me.
“Ugh… No, I just…” My fingers ran through my hair in stress as I threw my head back, feeling my eyes burn with tears again and trying to chase them away so I could at least leave this situation and go home without further questions.
“Let me guess… boy troubles?”
It was a rather sexist guess on his part, but I wasn’t about to fight it, because he happened to be right. “How do you…?”
I turned my face to look at him and he pointed to my hand on my hair, where on my ring finger rested a thin silver band with my boyfriend’s name engraved on the inside. “You’ve got a ring.” Turns out he wasn’t being misogynistic at all. He was just too attentive, something I’m not used to.
With a sigh, I slouched forwards with my face down again.
“Now I’m curious,” Kenny admitted as he leaned back on the seat of the bench, resting his arms on top of it, “What kind of monster made a goddess like you cry like that?”
I shook my head again and pointed to his shirt, specifically to the restaurant’s logo embroidered on the uniform. “Don’t you have somewhere to be right now?”
“Don’t worry about it. The place’s practically empty right now. Most people are at the mall or at Stark’s Pond anyway.” He shrugged. “And besides… I shouldn’t tell you this, but my boss is acting kinda crazy thinking you’re scouting the place to rob. So me being here probably puts his mind at ease because now he has a witness.”
Great. Just lovely. Now, on top of my whole shitty life situation, I’ll also have to find all the workers at that place looking at me funny whenever I go in for lunch. “So you told him you’d come here to teach the possible thief a lesson?”
“No. I told him there was no way in Hell someone as adorable as you was up to no good.” It was the third compliment on my appearance in less than five minutes of interaction. Apparently he was the type of man to not be deterred by something as ‘insignificant’ as a woman’s boyfriend, and I wasn’t sure how to feel about that.
“Well, your boss can rest assured,” I said, “I was just waiting here to go on a date. No robbery plans.”
“That’s what I thought.” He nodded slowly. “But I saw you while I was working. You’ve been here quite a while. What happened?”
“Well…” I took a deep breath, trying to put it all into words without bawling immediately - it still didn’t stop some tears from falling and my voice from cracking as I finally spoke again, “Apparently, my boyfriend slept past his alarm and forgot our anniversary date.”
Sudden movement to my side had me startled and I looked up again. Kenny was on his feet, an exasperated expression on his face. “What a bastard! YOU’RE sitting here, looking like a fucking snack for him, and your stupid ass boyfriend is at his place sleeping when he could be ravaging you?”
This man sounded genuinely indignant, even if extremely crude - in a twisted way, it only served to fill my brain up with more thoughts that maybe I wasn’t being treated as decently as I deserved, because I found myself not wanting to dispute him or make excuses for my boyfriend’s behaviour, either. “Don’t put it like that…”
“I always put it in in many ways,” Kenny sat back down next to me on the bench, the double entendre he spat definitely understood and ignored by me when I tried my best not to laugh, “And the only thing your boyfriend there seems to be putting is stress on your shoulders.”
He put his hand on my back and rubbed it gently slowly, as if trying to physically remove this figurative weight he mentioned - and, surprisingly, I felt it working even if just a little bit. My facial expression probably gave my enjoyment away, because he didn’t remove his hand even after he stopped moving it, and I let him keep it like that.
“I mean, it’s not that bad…” I avoided Kenny’s gaze as I uttered those words, and immediately the pain he had soothed came crashing down again. “It’s just one date. I’m sure it’s-”
“Don’t you start this on me now,” Kenny interrupted before I could continue my poor attempt at a dispute, “You know it is that bad. It’s your anniversary. Fuck, if I had a chick willing to do all that for me, I’d stick to her like bubblegum on a shoe,” he chuckled nervously as he ran his fingers through his hair, the thought of having someone who cared about him that much apparently making his brain run amok - he was probably the type of person to try to get things done for people instead of the other way around.
“And I’ll say more,” he took a deep breath and continued as he took note of my silence, “Even if it was just a date, you should still be pissed. You agreed on something and he fucked it up. And now you’re here, looking sad and hot. If this happened to any of your girl friends, you’d tell them to send the garbage dick to the gutters, wouldn’t you?”
I tried opening my mouth to argue further, try to defend my man’s behaviour or justify it, but found myself running dry of the excuses I usually had on hand. It was like something inside of me had snapped, and if there was one goddamn day of my relationship where I would allow myself to be angry and expect reparations, it would be this one.
“Thanks, Kenny,” I murmured, nodding slowly and letting my gratitude shine through my eyes as well when I gazed into his, “Means a lot.”
“Don’t mention it,” he shook his head, making his shaggy hair flow beautifully and frame his face even better, “Consider this my first real attempt at becoming employee of the month.”
In a weird way, Kenny’s presence and his charisma were starting to make me feel better. I felt drawn to continue talking to him, if just to hear his voice more.
“Are you a new hire?” I asked, signaling with my head towards the restaurant where he worked at, “I come here often and I’ve never seen you there before.”
“Oh, no no no, I’ve been there a couple of months now,” Kenny was quick to answer, waving his hand in front of him to emphasize the negative, “But I usually just do cleaning duty and help in the kitchen. They don’t want me waiting tables because I ain’t exactly got a face for customer service.”
I didn’t argue with his comment, but it wasn’t for a lack of wanting to. The man sitting next to me was absolutely handsome. Every single one of his features displayed intense personality and charm, and the words in his voice always sounded extremely seductive no matter the subject. Kenny had a natural magnetism to him that most men could never have no matter how hard they tried. However, he was nonetheless a bit rough around the edges, and the piercings and scars probably were a red flag when it came to employment. Not his fault and there was nothing wrong with him, the only one to blame was our current society.
“Anyway, today I’m actually covering for a friend of mine,” Kenny continued, “Got in some sort of trouble and couldn’t be here, so he asked me to cover for him and it was the least I could do.”
Using my amassed knowledge of the restaurant’s usual waiters, I went through my mental images of all of their faces to try and guess who his friend could be. There was this other young man, about our age… “Is it the other blond guy? Also with the… You know, over his eye?” I moved my finger in front of my left eye, tracing a scar I remembered the other man having. Were facial scars an integral part of the restaurant’s uniform?
“Butters. That’s him.” Kenny nodded with a smile. “Really nice dude. Reliable. He’s covered my ass a couple of times, vouched for me to get this job too. I gotta check on him later to see if everything’s alright, he never misses a workday.”
The sincerity in Kenny’s voice and the way he beamed about his colleague made my heart feel warmer. There was obviously more to their friendship than just being work buddies, and I was sure this ‘Butters’ guy was very near and dear to him. Maybe next time I went in there for lunch we could strike a conversation or something.
But all good things must come to an end. With a stinging reminder that I still had a phone with zero battery on me and a whole walk to my house ahead, which would set me back on my ‘not think of my life’ objective a lot, I decided I should just cut that umbilical cord and let my new buddy go back to living his own.
“Well, Kenny… I think I really need to go. Don’t wanna take up any more of your time.” I run my hands over my eyes one more time, even though the tears have already all spilled by now and are basically dry. “Thanks for everything. All the best to you.”
I get up from the bench and wave him a goodbye, but feel him grab my wrist and tug at it as I try to leave. When I turn to him again, he’s holding up my picnic basket in his hand. “You forgot your… your thing here.”
He pushes it toward me, but I don’t pick it up, instead just making a dismissing motion with my free hand. “Keep it.” I shook my head. “I’m not hungry anyway. Think of it as a token of appreciation for keeping me company.”
“You’re not hungry? That’s bullshit!” He gets on his feet as well and tries giving me the basket again, more insistently this time. “You were waiting here for hours without eating. You must be starving.”
Kenny wasn’t wrong. During our whole conversation, I could feel the familiar pangs of hunger in my belly, my body’s painful way of begging me for sustenance. However, just thinking of coming back home all alone and having to eat all the food I prepared for me and my boyfriend, knowing full well that it was supposed to be for a special occasion and I had instead been bailed on like it was nothing, was enough to make my eyes burn again with the threat of another crying session. I wouldn’t be able to do it.
To keep myself from crying again, I just let out a downcast sigh. “It’s alright. There’s too much for just me anyway, I don’t want it to go bad. If you keep it you can at least share with your buddies or something.”
“Well, I’m still not taking what’s yours, that’d be fucked up. But…” His eyes darted to the side, looking towards his workplace, then back to the basket his holding and then finally to me again.
“But?”
“Well, as it turns out, I haven’t had my lunch break yet.” His hand releases its grasp on my wrist and he picks up his phone in the pocket of his apron briefly to check the time, putting it right back after he does. “So I think you can still have that picnic.”
It was unbelievable. “You’d… Do that for me?”
“It would be a real mistake to let such a perfectly prepared meal go to waste.” He made a gesture with his hand, towards my picnic basket - a gesture that I could’ve sworn encompassed me as well, theory only made stronger by the mischievous glint I definitely saw in his eyes.
His boldness had me flabbergasted. In any other situation, I’d be nothing short of horrified at the thought of an unknown man inviting himself to my business like that and basically taking over my day - but Kenny had been so kind, helping me with nothing but caring words as I bawled my eyes out, taking time away from his work to make sure an unknown woman was safe and okay while asking for absolutely nothing in return. And he seemed so genuine about it, too - even if he had made some playful passes, I wasn’t the slightest bit uncomfortable around him. He was being extremely nice about all of it and I found myself not ready to go back home and face the music of my terrible life just yet; Maybe Kenny and I really could have a great time together, even if it wasn’t what I originally planned.
“If you really want to…” I give him a gentle smile. “Let’s go, then.”
His eyes light up like a child’s as he hears my acceptance, and he hands me my basket to hold before starting to walk with purpose past me, leaving me confused. “Just stay here for a bit, okay? Don’t go nowhere.” He calls out to me, but as he sees my eyes widening and a little sadness flash behind them - I hadn’t considered that I’d had to wait even more for Kenny now, and my whole experience with today had me a little paranoid -, he’s quick to add: “I swear I’ll be quick, it’s just to warn the other folk! Be back in a flash!”
With a deep breath, I decide to trust him on this one. “Go, go!” I yell with urgency, turning my attention to other parts of my surroundings while he goes do what needs to be done.
Luckily I didn’t have to wait long. After just a couple minutes my ears picked up rushed footsteps coming in my direction - Kenny was now straight up running to meet me. He looked mostly the same, with a few key differences; He had ditched his apron completely and was now wearing a big orange parka with brown details on the hoodie. It looked cheap , old and beat-up, with a bunch of very visible stitching on the seams, like it had ripped off and been sewn back together multiple times before. It also had a couple dried dark stains splattered around it, but I wasn’t about to ask what they were.
“Feeling cold?” I pointed at the new addition to his outfit.
Kenny shook his head and shrugged, the jacket making a very characteristic plastic-like sound with his movement. “Just thought I might need it.”
You’re gonna sweat in that was my immediate thought, but the judgement that followed was to not to waste any time debating his decision, he’s a grown adult and must have his reasons. I adjusted the basket on my forearm as I began to walk, but Kenny quickly moved to my side and pulled it away from me, locking his right arm with my left one and holding the basket with his other hand. I turned to him with a confused look, but he said nothing about it, instead choosing to go on about something entirely unrelated as we made our way to our destination.

The trip to Stark’s Pond was quite short, but filled with fun and laughter all the way nonetheless. Kenny was making progress on his objective of keeping me distracted from my current situation, telling me lots of jokes and sneaking compliments every other sentence like it was second nature for him to say them, which it might as well be. I had no doubt that, for anyone who went past us on the street and didn’t know who we were, the only thing they saw was one extremely happy couple.
I ended up learning lots of stuff about him, too. He opened up like a library book, probably to compensate for the fact that he saw me so vulnerable earlier. I found out that he was an extremely hardworking man, needing money not only for his daily expenses but also to help his little sister pay her university tuition - between that and his treatment of me, a person he barely knew, I had no doubt he truly had a heart of gold.
Besides the daily shifts at the restaurant and some odd jobs here and there whenever he got some free time, he was regularly busy during weekend nights, working as a bartender at a club in Main Street. I knew the place like the back of my hand. It was my old stomping ground - I had spent many a crazy Friday and Saturday night there, and it was also where I had met my current boyfriend, a drunk hookup that became a bigger thing. Ironically enough, once we made it official, he began to get bothered whenever I talked of going there and would give me the silent treatment if I did, so I eventually just abandoned it altogether to keep the peace.
“Well, if you ever feel like coming back,” Kenny said after I commented on the coincidence, “Then keep me company at the bar. Drinks on me. And not that overpriced stuff full of ice we usually make. Real alcohol.”
I told him he was full of shit and waved him off, but made a mental note of what he said… Just in case.
When we arrived at the lake, it was immediately verified that Kenny’s predictions about what the people in town were doing for the sunny day were correct. The park surrounding the pond was peppered with couples in love whispering sweet nothings to each other while watching the clouds, families with children throwing frisbees to their dogs, and groups of teenagers being as loud as they usually are and causing stress to everyone around them. My eyes scanned the space around me, looking for a decent open spot to sit down - meanwhile, Kenny just kept walking like he already knew where he wanted to go, and I absentmindedly followed him.
The realization that we had deviated a little from the main path only comes to me when the sound beneath my feet goes from soft grass to crunching twigs. We were breaching the forest nearby, Kenny bringing me swiftly around the trees like his legs had their positions down pat. I knew for a fact that there was a trail of beaten dirt through this same forest for those who wished to take a stroll in it, but we weren’t following that path. As I shoot an inquisitive glance and a frown towards my new friend, he just smiles, acknowledging my confusion but not missing pace over it.
“Don’t worry your pretty little head about it, I have the perfect spot,” He turned to me, pointing over his shoulder with his thumb. “Unless you wanna go back and we can go sit next to those highschoolers with the speakers blasting 6ix9ine.”
I shook my head quickly and emphatically, immediately getting a pep in my step. “Oh no, I trust you on this one.”
Our little unexpected promenade didn’t last for much longer. Soon the trees started to spread more distant from each other, and we arrived at a small open area, a random glade I had never seen before. The tree canopies bunched together didn’t create their patchy roof over our heads any longer, so the sun was free to shine and warm up my skin. The branches fallen on the ground were few and far between, and the grass was decently smooth and level, perfect for relaxing on it. No animals were to be seen, probably scattered away much earlier after hearing our noises, but I could hear birds singing in the distance and catch one or two flying high above our heads.
“This is a nice place, Kenny!” I exclaimed, turning to him with a smile. “How much roaming around the forest did you do to find it?”
“I guess I’ve known about it for a while. Me and my bros come here all the time to have a smo- Think. We come here to think.” I laughed after hearing Kenny immediately try to correct himself, his sudden interest in a tiny pebble on the grass not going unnoticed either.
“You don’t have to hide it from me, I’m not a prude.” I shrugged. “Think anyone else might get the same idea today?”
“Nah, I don’t think so. And if they do, trust me, they’re gonna leave.”
Deciding once again to not question Kenny’s words or his methods, I opened up the basket in my arm and picked up a yellow and white checkered picnic blanket, opening it up and stretching it over the grass. My unexpected companion immediately started to help me spread the contents of the basket neatly on top of it, making all our food options easily visible.
And there were many of them. I had been quite proud of myself beforehand for managing to prepare a decent amount of stuff for my date, but it dawned on me that if I hadn’t had Kenny by my side it would have taken me a couple of days to get through it all on my own at home. Me and my improbable new friend talked a bunch more while we made quick work of the small club sandwiches, homemade chicken pie, carrot cake, some assorted snacks and drinks from the grocery store, and…
“Chocolate-covered strawberries? Seriously?” Kenny held up the small red box, shaking it slightly. “The big expensive ones too. You really went all out for this.”
“Hey, I forgot I had that! These are the best!” I let out a small squeal of surprise, the memory of having picked up the sweet treat earlier at the candy store having gotten lost in my head over all the stress I went through. I reach my arm towards Kenny, the tiny box too far away for me to get to it naturally. ”Can you pass me one, please?”
After I finished my request, my ears picked up some particularly close chirping, and I quickly turned my head around to look for any sign of a small bird that could be producing it, my hand still extended towards Kenny with my fingers wiggling as I waited for him to give me one of the sweet treats. I heard the characteristic noise of the box being opened, and something being shuffled inside of it, but nothing ever made its way to me. When I turned to see what was taking Kenny so long, I realized why - Kenny was staying put with one of the strawberries held between his teeth with half of it sticking out of his mouth. He couldn’t speak, but his eyes held the message of what he wanted me to do next.
I had to admit, I considered it for a brief moment. It was a simple act of play, but so sensual as well - I hadn’t been able to do this kind of silly stuff in quite a while, and it ignited something in me that had been dormant for a while now. I felt wanted. However, my moral compass was still blaring its sirens loudly in my brain, and I didn’t want to lead my whole life astray just because one guy I just met was giving me all the attention I needed. “Oh, come on, give me that!” I feigned annoyance and reached over to try and pick the fruit out from between Kenny’s teeth, but he quickly just gets all of it inside of his mouth and starts chewing.
“Had to at least try.” He chuckled, with his mouth still full, before picking out another strawberry from the box and handing it over to me properly this time.
“Do you try this with every girl who offers you food?” I inquired with irony in my voice as I plucked the small leaves off the top of the fruit, “The whole loverboy act?”
He swallows before answering this time. “Only when they’re as cute as you are,” He replied, “Which means I’ve never done it before in my entire life.”
If my eyes could roll back further into my head, they’d dislodge from it. “Like I said, Kenny, you’re full of shit,” I retorted right before popping the whole strawberry in my mouth, closing my eyes to savor its taste. My next words came slightly messed up, as I spoke with my mouth full, covering it with my hand. “I bet the girls are all over you with that.”
While I chewed on the fruit, Kenny stayed totally silent, his eyes scanning the plaid pattern of the picnic blanket under him. “What if it’s not an act, though?”
The sudden seriousness in his tone made my eyes shoot open immediately, and I flinched a bit, a frown creasing my forehead.
Kenny started scooting closer and wrapped his arms around me, suddenly pulling my body in one quick motion so I was seated between his legs while he hugged me tightly from behind. I tensed up completely in his arms, and didn’t dare make a movement even when his heavy breathing on my shoulder made the fine hairs behind my neck stand up. “Ken… I…” My uttering was almost non-audible, voice still strained from the surprise.
He grinned against the crook of my neck. “Ken, huh?” Kenny’s murmurs came out slightly muffled by my skin, “I can be that today, if you need me to. Just say it.”
“What are we doing, Ken?” My voice slowly started coming back to me, and I looked down towards the grass, seeing Kenny’s leg stretched right next to mine, barely touching it. He was too close now for me to be able to shake off his advances or pretend they’re just jokes; There was nowhere to go but right through them. “I shouldn’t be here…”
“What you should be is with someone who values you.” He cut my sentence with a firm and decided tone in his voice, getting a tighter hold of me between his arms. “A real man, not that sucker you’re dating right now. Someone who treats you right.”
I wanted to argue with him, ask him who he thinks he is to assume things about a woman he barely knows - but I knew his words to be true, there’s no point I can try to make that will make them not so.
Seeing that I was both not moving from my position and not disputing his claims, my guess is that he had newfound energy to get his point across, because he continued talking. “Do you know what I would do if I had a woman like you by my side, huh?” Kenny rhetorically asked, his voice almost a growl. “I’d wake up at the crack of dawn every day to provide for her. I’d make love to her every single night. I’d be the one planning dates and showing her a good time. I wouldn’t leave you alone to cry in the middle of the fucking street, I’d be too busy making you happy instead.”
“You said ‘you’ right now.” I immediately pointed out, even though it’s unnecessary. “Not ‘her’. ‘You.’”
“And I fucking meant it.”
With that, one of his arms loosened its wrap on my body and reached far for the tiny box containing the chocolate strawberries, and he picked one up in his hands, bringing it close to our faces. This one had a different design from all the others - instead of the usual white chocolate lines over the milk chocolate covering, this one’s got small red hearts as well. It’s more detailed, a tiny touch of romance to what is usually a very sexy treat in nature. Kenny cleaned the leaves out of the strawberry and took a bite out of it, holding the other half close to my lips. My nostrils immediately took in the sweet scent of the fruit, but I didn't open my mouth just yet.
“Look, I won’t force you to do anything you don’t wanna do. But if you let me, I’ll make you feel real good. Promise.” He murmured, digging his left hand’s fingers on the soft side of my belly one last time. The ball was fully on my court, but I could still feel the hints of his desperation for my body as he waited patiently for my answer.
Slowly and nervously, I parted my lips and let Kenny put the small piece of strawberry inside of my mouth himself, hearing him sigh in relief behind me as he did so. Once he withdrew his fingers from my mouth, that’s when I finally bit down on the small treat. This one isn’t as sweet as the others; It might not have been as perfectly ripe, so it had a tiny tinge of sourness mixed up in the fruit’s flavor. The milk chocolate around the fruit almost masked it up completely, though - the whole combination tasted absolutely heavenly, not just for the fruit, but also for the implications of it. I was in deep now.
Kenny almost doesn’t wait for me to swallow what’s in my mouth before turning my face to his and kissing me fiercely, his left hand getting tangled with the hair in the back of my head. I kissed him back with the same amount of fervor almost immediately, and all of my worries over this whole situation dissipated from my head like dry ice; Fuck what needed to happen for us to get to this point, fuck my problems and how I’d sort them out, fuck morals and especially fuck the outside world. This tiny little section of the forest was our own personal bubble, and I’d live in it for as long as I could.
When the tip of Kenny’s tongue brushed my bottom lip and I opened my mouth to grant it access, I realized I hadn’t accounted for one more piercing of his. The tiny little ball sitting in the middle of his tongue didn’t feel as cold as I thought it would, so it was more the sudden change in hardness and texture that threw me off a bit. I kept my cool, though, as I put my hands on both sides of his face and pulled it even closer to mine. I decided to try something out and touched his piercing with the tip of my tongue, flicking it ever so gently - I immediately felt Kenny’s hard-on twitch inside of his pants against my lower back.
As our tongues slid around each other and explored our connected mouths, his right hand slowly made its way up my thigh, sneaking under my clothes, ghosting over my bare pussy. I had been having so much fun with this man today, I’d completely forgotten I wasn’t wearing anything under my dress. Just this slight contact was enough to make my breath hitch and Kenny broke the kiss, his hand freezing in place.
When I opened my eyes, he was unapologetically staring at me. Mouth agape in surprise, pupils wide, it almost seemed like the whole galaxy was behind his eyes with the way they shined. Kenny looked like what someone would if you told them all of their dreams had come true at the same time.
“What a lucky son of a bitch.” He uttered almost non-audibly, the corners of his mouth slowly curving upwards into a delighted smile. For a moment, I wondered if he was talking about my actual partner or about himself. I wasn’t able to ask, though - Kenny’s left hand immediately grabbed my chin and tilted my head up, holding my face, ear and neck in perfect positions for him to start kissing, sucking and biting them voraciously.
The middle and index fingers on his right hand went back to gliding up and down my folds, picking up the building slick from my entrance and spreading it all over before settling over my clit and drawing quick tight circles over the bundle of nerves. Before I knew it, I was putty in Kenny’s hands, squirming and arching my back as much as I could in his grasp, my moans filling his ears and working as fuel for his ministrations.
Eliciting a whine of annoyance from my mouth when he did, Kenny took his hands away from me, not without planting one last wet kiss to my jaw. While I cooled down, steadying my breath, he brought his fingers over to his mouth, sucking on them and licking slowly. Then he sighed. “Fuck, no. This won’t do at all. Need you on my face, baby.”
I didn’t even have time to register what he said or the implications of it before he let go of my body and started moving behind me, stretching his legs under mine. When I quickly turned back to see what was up, he was already fully laid down with his head on the blanket, hands pulling at my thighs like he wanted to bring me closer to his upper body.
“Wait, what?” I tried to get up at my feet, but his pulling made me lose balance and I quickly sat back down as gently as I could, my knees now at both sides of his abdomen.
“Come on, over here,” he called, still trying to drag me over his body towards his face, “Or do you want me to beg? Because I’ll do it.”
Somehow the idea of Kenny begging for something like this made a blush spread quickly across my cheeks and ears, which probably burned bright like a beacon. How to explain to this man that I had never done what he wanted me to do?
My question was answered almost immediately - like everything else in my interactions with Kenny, I didn’t have to tell him, he knew straight away. “That fucking asshole,” he let out a disgruntled huff, rubbing his face with his hand as if completely stressed.
“Excuse me?”
“Your damn boyfriend,” he immediately responded, huffing again as if the mere thought of that man made him angry, “Can’t even eat out his own fucking lady properly.”
“I never said…” Once again with all my damn defenses, but this time it was aimed at myself. I’d feel awkward admitting to Kenny that even though I was fairly experienced, what with the long-term relationship, I still knew very little about my own pleasure.
“It’s written all over your face, baby,” he said, gesturing towards my beet red features, his expression softening. “But it’s alright. You take a seat and enjoy the show. This is my shift.”
He then started playing with the hem of my dress, twirling it between his fingers, waiting for my next move. Slowly, but surely, I started scooting on my knees towards his face, turning my face away as I got closer to his mouth. As I finally got to it, my bare cunt hovering above his face, his arms wrapped around my thighs and started pulling me down as if he wanted me to fall on him - was this guy trying to have his neck broken? To stop him from actually succeeding in this endeavor, I lowered myself steadily to where my folds were touching his lips.
And he got to work right away. His tongue started by licking tentative stripes through my slit, capturing on it my already plentiful arousal - I could hear Kenny’s satisfied groans as he tasted it, but the front of my dress falling over his head shielded me from any facial expressions.
His fingers splayed on the soft flesh of my thigh tightened their grasp as he started licking and sucking faster, and I leaned forward, putting my hands on the floor near Kenny’s head for stability.
“Yes, Ken! More! Aaah!” I called out once his tongue picked up speed, tugging fistfuls of my own picnic blanket as my fingers tried to dig into the floor. Seemingly content with my feedback, he mumbled something against my pussy, as if trying to speak, but the only thing that was definitely caught by my senses were the vibrations against my folds, all the way to my core.
Then and there I realized that Kenny might be an actual genius. Whenever his tongue would lap at my clit, or make its way to fuck my cunt again, I’d feel the tiny piercing on top of it - and it increased my pleasure tenfold. The extra stimulation of the hard metal ball with his soft tongue had me seeing blank before my eyes with every quick successive movement, and he knew it too, because I could hear him groan as he’d purposefully lap and flick and curl with his tongue mercilessly.
Before I could catch myself, I was rocking my hips against Kenny’s face, trying to get more contact, more of anything he could give me. His jaw and tongue followed my movements perfectly, like he was well prepared for this exact reaction. My thighs were quivering from the pleasure he was giving me as well as the strain of the position while I tried not to completely fall on his mouth. It didn’t take much long for me to figuratively do exactly that, though; With a loud cry that probably scared every single animal in a radius across the forest, I came on his mouth, my hands grabbing a fistful of the grass under them while I rocked shamelessly against Kenny’s face, riding it through my release. I could feel his nails digging at the flesh of my ass, but he never made a movement to pull me away, eating me up like a man starved.
Once I started coming to my senses again and brought back enough strength to my thighs, I lifted myself up away from Kenny’s face slowly and hiked up the front of my dress, looking down to be able to see his face at that moment. He looked back at me through half-lidded eyes, his cheeks and nose sporting a reddish flush that definitely didn’t exist before. My juices are splattered all around his mouth and he has this massive stupid grin on his face, showing almost all of his teeth.
“Gorgeous.” He uttered once he saw me staring back, his voice raspy and lazy. I merely chuckled, going backwards on my knees until I was close to his hips, where I finally settled, lowering myself back down to sit right on top of the generous tent formed in his pants.
Kenny lifted his upper body up on his elbows once he felt me positioned against his still clothed cock. “Oh, aren’t we eager now?” He teased, patting the ground next to him. “Lay down here, baby. Let me sort that out for you.”
I shook my head with a smirk. “I don’t think I will. This is my shift now.”
His eyes widened, astounded, as I put both my hands on his chest and pushed him back down with full force of my arms. His head was still lifted as his back hit the ground, and I made sure to maintain our gazes connected as my hands drifted to his pants, unbuckling and unzipping them with dexterity.
“Are you sure?” Kenny inquired, his eyebrows arched, but I was positive I could see the faintest hint of a smile on the corners of his lips. “I mean, I’m all for it, but aren’t you tired?”
“I’m fine. I wanna do this.” I tug down his pants and boxers just enough to free his cock, rolling my hips a couple times over it just to see his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed hard. “Besides, it’s good thigh workout.”
“Not that you need it.” Kenny’s hands ran over my legs, giving my thighs a light squeeze. Once he saw my hand going towards his dick again as I prepared to take him inside of me, however, his grip released and his arm reached over somewhere. “Wait, wait, wait! Time out!”
I glanced confused to the side and saw Kenny dragging closer to us his parka, which had long been discarded to one end of our blanket, and he stuffed his hand inside of one of the pockets. “What is it?” I tried to ask, but he just rummaged around in it for two or three seconds more before bringing out a blue foil package.
So that’s why he needed to bring the damn jacket. “Someone’s well prepared.”
“I mean… Better be safe than sorry.” Kenny replied, handing me the tiny square. “Come on, I was about to hang out alone with the hottest chick in town. A guy can dream, you know?”
I twisted the wrapping between my fingers, analyzing the information in it. Average size - though that tells me next to nothing about what I’m really working with - and of the ‘Ultra Thin’ variety. This fucking guy. “You’re clean, right?”
“Oh yeah, absolutely!” He answered at record speed, nodding for extra emphasis. “But I mean… It’s for your best, right?”
I placed the condom right back on top of his parka. “I’m on the pill,” I reassured him as his face sported a totally confused expression, “So, if you’ll let me… I want to feel you, Ken. Really feel you.”
He swallowed hard again, his dick twitching with more precum leaking out of the tip as he took in my words. Still pleasantly surprised by my decision, he slowly nodded, closing his eyes and seemingly letting himself relax - though I could almost see all the little cogs in his brain moving wildly with all the lewd thoughts he had of me, and it made for great fuel to my ego.
My hand wrapped around Kenny’s cock again and I lifted my hips up to get in perfect position on top of it, moving the tip around my entrance teasingly, spreading his pre over it and getting it mixed with my own slick. When I finally slipped about an inch fully inside and my cunt gave one small initial clench around it, Kenny’s eyes shot open and he grabbed my thighs again, like he was fighting the temptation of pulling me down immediately.
“Tight… So fucking tight…” He grunted between gritted teeth, his dick twitching once again. His words like fire on my lower abdomen, I steadied myself over him before slamming my hips fully down and burying him to the hilt in one motion, both of us letting out loud groans as he stretched my walls with little preparation. Kenny’s nails dug at my thighs with this, leaving the tiniest crescent marks on them.
After a few seconds to adjust to his size - the longest seconds of my life - I lifted myself up agonizingly slowly before sinking back down again, trying to keep a slow and teasing pace, but failing miserably as I quickly began picking up speed and riding him in earnest. His enthusiasm matched mine, his hands on my thighs moving to my ass, feeling every jiggle and bounce of my flesh.
And that wasn’t the only thing of mine that bounced that he seemed interested in. Now that Kenny’s eyes were open, he basically zeroed in on the movement of my breasts, pupils glazed over with hunger. Determined to give him the show he was so interested in, I quickly removed the straps of my sundress from my shoulders and pulled down the neckline, so that my tits were on full display for him. That same stupid grin he had exhibited earlier showed up yet again.
“Mmmm… Like what you see, Ken?” I teased, brushing a wild strand of hair off his face with one of my hands, my soft touch lingering.
“Fuck yes,” one of his hands left my behind to knead at one of the perky mounds, “You’re perfect. Your boyfriend is a fucking-” I silenced him immediately with a particularly hard crash of my cunt on him. I needed not hear further from his mouth except for grunts or praise.
With every roll of my hips and slap of my skin against his, I wondered more why I took so long to surrender to him. My decision to let him hit it raw might have been irrational, but I didn’t regret it one single bit; He filled me up so perfectly, his length like the perfect massager to my inner walls, bringing me bliss like I hadn’t felt in quite a while. My hands grabbed and tugged at his shirt while I moaned with the full force of my throat, throwing my head back as his cock hit that sweet spot inside of me with every movement I made.
“Ken… Ken… Aaaah…” His nickname left my mouth like the chorus of an earworm song, ever present, the only thing I could think about in life. And I continued to say it over and over, making sure that it would permanently stick to his brain as well, my voice his only true companion even with the deafening music of the club he worked nights at.
“Hell yeah, baby,” he groaned between gritted teeth, “Let it out… You keep saying my name like that and I’m gonna lose my fucking mind here…”
Even if he said it like something that was yet to happen, lowering my gaze to Kenny’s face told me that he was already absolutely going through it. His eyes were tight shut and his eyebrows were furrowed, almost in a manner of deep concentration; He was trying his hardest to not finish before I did, and it was awkwardly endearing.
The pace of my hips slowed briefly as I lowered my upper body down towards Kenny’s chest, keeping balance by holding myself on my elbows bent to the sides of him. Once he’s not as overwhelmed with pleasure and felt the tip of my nose ghosting against his, he dared open his eyes to meet my caring gaze and soft smile. He immediately wrapped his arms around me and lifted his head from the ground just barely, his lips chasing mine, yearning for their velvety touch - which I granted them gladly, taking him in a luscious kiss as my hips slowly regained their previous momentum.
“Beautiful… Like a damn angel… Heaven’s got nothing on you…” Kenny whispered against my lips as soon as they parted from his, and those words on his voice made my heart skip a beat yet again - it was like he knew all the buttons to press to make me melt for him, even though we barely knew each other - but I knew that after all this I was definitely keeping him in my personal circle.
Our slight experiment with real affection didn’t last long, though. In my new position, my clit was making contact with Kenny’s skin and being stimulated with every movement I made; Soon I had to take my face away from Kenny’s to bury it in the crook of his neck as I moaned, feeling my orgasm fast approaching again from the combined effort on my pleasure spots.
My thrusts became shorter and even quicker as I felt my muscles tightening again, the upcoming climax threatening to consume me, with my thighs also trembling and burning from the straining ‘workout’. I continued grinding on him with wild abandon until I came on his dick with a shuddering cry of his nickname; the sun in the sky feeling almost cold in comparison to the electric warmth that coursed through every inch of my body, sparks of pleasure jolting through my muscles, making my cunt contract wildly around that man’s dick as if trying to make him a whole part of me.
As a tough roar reached my ears, the motion of my hips was abruptly interrupted by Kenny’s hands grabbing the sides of them and holding me firmly in place; He replaced my movement with his, bucking upwards in an intense burst of stamina as he now allowed himself to chase his own release. Given how long he had been holding back and how quick and powerful each of his thrusts were now, it doesn’t take long to catch up to him - soon his hips jerk up one last time and stay firmly in place, and I feel his cock twitching as it fills me up with jet after jet of his warm seed.
He stayed put like this for a while, with his hips raised to meet mine, the sounds of our heavy breathing the only thing audible in the little clearing at that moment. When I decided to make the first move and get up, Kenny’s softening dick sliding off of me and allowing his cum to start dripping down my legs, his arms fell to his side and he stretched his legs, letting out a deep sigh of contentment.
“Someone’s happy,” I commented with a smile as I laid down beside him, watching the sunlight hit his golden hair just right.
“Ya think?” Kenny responded with a rough chuckle, immediately wrapping his arm around me and pulling me closer so I’m resting on his chest with my legs draped over his. “Damn, baby… I’m never letting you go now.”
Coming down from my high, I expected all of the usual occurrences associated with descriptions of cheating you see in fiction to wash over me: Regret, sadness, anger at myself - or, if I was a narcissist, at this man for indulging me -, despair, maybe I’d even start running some excuses in my head. Absolutely none of these thoughts came to pass. Instead, as I laid on top of the picnic blanket soaking in the warm sun with a peaceful Kenny lazily petting my hair, I felt a sense of absolute bliss; After so many things that seemed wrong in my life for the past two years, I was finally having a moment where I’m certain something is right, and the definitive decision was made in my heart to never let it be otherwise again.

We unfortunately didn’t make it back to the restaurant before Kenny’s lunch break ended, which meant he’d probably get a scolding from his manager for being unpunctual. When I apologized for making him late, though, he didn’t seem the slightest bit worried about it - his boyish grin stayed on his face the whole time, and he was actually acting more mad about having to leave me and go back to waiting tables.
He did bring me inside of the restaurant through a door in the back and led me to the employee’s break room, where one of his colleagues had a charger I could borrow. I used it just enough to be able to call an Uber and have battery for the ride home, not wanting to overstay my welcome when Kenny was already on thin ice because of our escapade. Before I left, though, he still made sure to put his number on my contact list, under the pretext of ‘me sending him an album I mentioned earlier that he might like’; However, as he winked and blew me a kiss before being called over by one of the cooks to pick up an order that was ready, I knew music would not be one of our top 10 subjects in conversation.
Only two text messages were sent from my phone that night. One very long paragraph to my now ex-boyfriend, listing all the problems I had with our relationship with several examples and telling him to disappear from my life before blocking his number - not wanting to give him even the slightest chance to manipulate me - and deleting it for good. Another much shorter message, to a contact just named ‘🧡’, containing detailed information about my favorite drink in the whole world and telling him to have it ready by 10pm.

Marriage Of Convenience [Part 3]
word count: 1749 || avg. reading time: 8 mins.
pairing: post-time skip!Kuroo x chubby!Reader
genre: fluff, friends to lovers, slow burn, slice of life
warnings: spoilers
synopsis: Marriage is not a big deal, right? Anyone can do it and it comes with a whole lot of benefits! That's why your friend proposes to you one morning with all the elegance and romance of an empty pudding cup.
[Part 1] [Part 2]

The night was exhausting before it even started, but now, one air hockey match and half a wine tasting later, you felt your social battery blinking in alarm. The other couple went back and forth between bickering and focusing all their attention on you and Tetsuro in an attempt to hide their arguments. They were leaning as far away from one another as possible while also resting their elbows on the table to be closer to you, holding onto the conversation like a lifeline. It was very clear they depended on your presence to remain somewhat civil amongst themselves.
“There is this pottery class that I’ve wanted to try out for so long.”, Mrs Maeda said with an all too telling sidelong glare at her husband, “And now that we’ve found another DINK couple we can even do the 6-week course, what do you say? - I’m so happy that you two are finally official. It was so obvious you were in love. I remember telling Satoshi that I knew there was something going on between you last year.”
This was beginning to feel awfully reminiscent of the company dinner where the consensus seemed to have been divided into “never saw that coming, I didn’t even know you guys were dating” and good-natured “oh my god, you were so obvious about it! I was thinking just say it already!”. Tetsuro and you had tried your best then to be polite and not look completely confused about your colleagues and even your boss having suspected you two to be involved. You were doing the same now, but Tetsuro had other questions, “What’s a DINK couple?” He frowned in your direction, hoping you could spare him having to ask the others but Mrs Maeda had overheard and grinned and with a casual wave of her hand she said, “Double income, no kids.”
“Obviously.”, you muttered sarcastically under your breath so only he could hear and Tetsuro pressed his lips together, clearing his throat to hide a chuckle.
“Ah, I see.”
“Unless of course, you are planning to have kids. Or are pregnant already?”
Mrs Maeda looked at you and her eyes insistently flicked down to your belly that sure enough looked plush and round bulging in the sitting position like this and back up to your face as if wanting you to confess. You didn’t feel the need to point out to her that you were on your second glass of wine and chose to answer with another demonstrative sip of alcohol.
She seemed to have noticed the mistake or just didn’t care for a reply when she changed the topic, “Do you guys have pictures of your wedding?” There was no pause for you to possibly answer - she went on, ”I remember ours was so magical. We had two separate wedding singers because I just couldn’t decide and Satoshi only wanted me to have the best. We had a large buffet and a champagne tower like in the movies. Our cake was a simple vanilla sponge with fresh strawberries and a champagne buttercream…”, she trailed off, hands clutched in front of her chest while she stared at a point somewhere near the door, “I wore this elegant dress with a long train and a veil that was clipped into my hair with a tiara. I felt like a princess.”
Mr Maeda plopped an olive into his mouth, not taking part in this stroll down memory lane.
“What was your dress like?”
“We didn’t have a big wedding.”, you said, “We just went down to City Hall.”
“But… the dress…”, the other woman’s shoulders sagged in disappointment.
Luckily, her husband and the overall crumbling economy came to the rescue, “Those weddings are free, right? Very smart. Saving the money for the future and not wasting it all on one silly day.”
Mrs Maeda snapped her head to her husband, a definite twitch in her brow.
“Silly day?”
While the other relationship slowly imploded in front of your eyes, you threw a look to your left and you relaxed a little. At least you had Tetsuro there.
You hailed a taxi just as the rest of the group spilled out of the restaurant behind you, some less sure-footed than others. It was unsurprising that after Mr Maeda’s comment, the mood had turned from awkward to icy, and the last twenty minutes were spent watching two of your colleagues downing significant amounts of wine. With Tetsuro’s assistance, you helped the other couple into the car, waving uncomfortably before signaling for your own ride.
You both sighed in unison as you slid into the backseat and gave the driver your address.
“That was…”
“Yup.”, you said, really emphasizing that p.
“Did you hear, Satoshi said we should do this again as we were leaving.”
“God no!”
He chuckled, nodding.
You looked out the window onto the other cars and city lights going by, deep in thought.
“We’re not gonna be like this, right?”, you asked suddenly.
Tetsuro started, surprised at the question.
“Like what?”
“So… bitter and resentful to each other.”
He offered a small smile and squeezed your hand that rested on the empty seat between you, “Of course not. Don’t worry.”
You returned the gesture, before slipping your left hand out of his warm palm. He pulled his right back to his lap and followed your example of calmly watching the outside pass.
“Are you hungry?”, you asked after a red light, turning to him again. The “dinner” at the wine bar mostly consisted of a few pieces of cheese and olives. You had never made it to the steak course after all.
“Starving.”, he grinned.
“How about pasta? Or - ooh! - curry? Or maybe sushi? Hm, definitely taiyaki, though.”
Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at you and asked with a playful smirk, “Pregnancy cravings?”, then had you join in his laughter when you slapped his arm.
Kuroo felt a familiar itch in his hands as he watched the practice from the sidelines. Hinata sure had grown - maybe not exactly in physical height, but in his abilities. With an almost proud expression, he watched his former rival easily receive spikes and feints his other team members threw at him and all too happily would Kuroo have taken off his suit jacket to join them. But he came with a different agenda.
“Did you see that last one?!”, Bokuto called excitedly as he and Hinata jogged over to him during a short break. The blonde setter joined them curiously, resting his arm on Hinata’s shoulder.
“I did. You’re getting more dangerous by the day.”
Bokuto flexed, very satisfied with his friend’s answer.
“So, not that we’re not pumped to see you, but what are you doing here?”
“I wanted to confirm the dates for the training camp.”
“That could have been a text, bro. Or an email if you wanted it official. Why make the trip?”
“Cause I wanted to see your face in person when I tell you I got married.”, Kuroo shrugged.
Silence.
Then, “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAH!!!” Hinata obviously short-circuited.
“You WHAT?!”, Bokuto yelled.
Kuroo was pleased - definitely worth the two and half hour trip by train.
Although he would have loved to fool his friends a bit longer and maybe even pretend to be deeply hurt that they hadn’t cared enough to come to the wedding, he told them the whole story. There wasn’t much to it other than bureaucratic gain, so they were quickly caught up.
“I didn’t know you could do that.”, Bokuto said thoughtfully, “Just marry someone like that. I thought there’d be a quiz beforehand or something, if you’re compatible and happy and stuff. And how well you know each other.”
Kuroo shook his head. “If you ever get tired of dating you should try it. Saves a lot of taxes, too. Marrying your friend is the best, I’m telling you.”
Atsumu had listened intently and began eyeing his teammates at those last words.
Bokuto and Hinata were already sizing each other up as if silently trying to decide which one of the two would be responsible for the dishes and who for the laundry. The setter turned on the spot, his eyes finally focusing on Sakusa who only stood a few meters away, water bottle in one, phone in the other hand.
He didn’t even look up when he said, “Forget it. We’re not even friends.”
The apartment was already dark when he returned that night and he was careful not to make too much noise when shrugging off his coat and putting away his bag. He flinched when his phone dinged in his pocket and the sound echoed through the hallway. It was a text from you. “Is that you? Did you just get home? Or are we being burglarized rn?”
A smile spread across his face at the thought that you waited up and he walked to your door to knock. Dim light emanated from the narrow gap at the bottom and he opened it when you called for him to enter.
“Hey, how was the trip?”, you asked, clearly tired. Tetsuro leaned in your doorway, hands in his pockets, taking in the sight of you sitting up in your bed with a book on your lap.
“Very good. Bokuto says Hi.”
“Hi back, even though we’ve never met.”
“Should rectify that these days.”, he said more to himself than to you, then added, “I brought you something.”
You sat up a little straighter, most of your fatigue gone. “Is it a puppy?”
“Close. It’s cake. I’ll put it in the fridge for you to have tomorrow.”
“Why wait?”
“You stay in bed.”
“But… but cake. It could feel abandoned, all alone and cold amongst the vegetables and fish.” Your eyes turned round, along with your pout.
“I’ll bring you a fork, alright?”
You nodded excitedly and smiled. “Share it with me?”
“Lemme take a shower first. - I’ll be quick, I promise.”, he said upon seeing more pouting, “And you have to catch me up, okay?” He pointed at the book in your hands, earning a cheerful salute.
With a towel still around his neck to catch any remaining droplets from his damp hair, Tetsuro hopped into your bed next to you, long legs on top of your comforter, cake and two forks in hand. As you detailed the current plot twists of your book between bites he thought again how this marriage thing really was the best decision he had ever made.

Doctor's In - Part 13
Summary: Your life in Boston after Wanda.
The air is cold, and just your luck, today you left the car outside of the building’s parking lot.
Maybe it’s not such a bad thing after all, as a cute woman is inspecting the black Corvette, in awe of the elegant and expensive car.
“Want a ride?”
“This yours?” she says, genuinenly fascinated.
“Yeap” you nod. “She’s a beauty, 490-hp 6.2-liter V-8 engine”
Do you know what those words mean? Not at all.
“My father and I used to fix cars. I need to send him a picture. Can I?”
“Sure, go ahead” you smile. “I’ll even take one of you standing next to it”
You pull out your phone.
“Oh, wait, I should have given you mine” the woman says, and you smile.
“Or you could give me your number and I’ll send the pics” you smile at her, offering your phone.
“Very smooth” she blushes, taking it.
“If you wanna talk about smooth, the leather seats are just…”
“Ugh, it’s too cold to take my motorcycle, can you give me a ride to the hospital?” Yelena interrupts, coming out of nowhere as usual.
“Shh, go away” you push her behind you.
“God, we’re gonna be late. Just skip to the part where you lie about texting the girl and get on with it” she mumbles, and luckily only you can hear her.
“Sorry, she’s being annoying” you elbow Yelena’s side. “I’ll send you the pictures, and my offer for a ride still stands”
“Well, alright then. Have fun babysitting” the woman comments, which earns her a glare from the blonde.
“Get in the fucking car” you mutter. “Why can’t you ask your mother for a damn car? She has lots of them”
“Like the one you borrow and use to get phone numbers? I don’t understand why you do it, you never call them”
“It’s not about having a date. It’s just fun to talk to girls. I never really did it outside of college” you shrug your shoulders.
You never call them because the thought of being with someone who isn’t Wanda is simply absurd.
But you don’t expect Yelena to understand it.
“I never ask for a car because then she’d be like See, I was right, a motorcycle was a bad idea”
“Get both, like your sister”
“No, because then she’ll say I’m copying her, like when she went to school with a green backpack and I got one that was similar the next day. But green has always been my favorite color” she rambles.
“Are all the Romanoffs this complicated?”
"Is your music taste always this random?" Yelena points at the screen. "Yesterday it was ABBA and now it's Metallica"
"Don't even think about changing it" you say, slapping her hand away.
You finally get to the hospital, parking in your spot, which is one of the best ones in the entire facility.
Melina is trying to convince you to stay beyond your three month contract, and she’s not shying away from providing a life of luxury, with a penthouse and a fancy car included.
If it wasn’t because you’re busting your ass in the ER, you’d feel like a sugar baby.
“Go and check on the people waiting, I have to sign discharges and look at some post ops” you tell Yelena as soon as you walk in, and she nods.
“Morning, everyone” you greet the front desk. “Is Patrick ready for his recital today?”
“Yes, he’s very excited” Nurse Roman says.
“Well, as a doctor I don’t feel comfortable saying break a leg, so let’s just leave it at good luck”
“That sounds perfect to me, Doctor Y/L/N, thank you” the woman says. You’re smiling until you notice the frown on Peña’s face.
“Don’t look at me like that. Not my fault you keep betting on Shelton when he’s literally playing against Alcaraz”
“Shelton is the future of American tennis”
“I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over the resounding noise of your debt” you say, going back to the charts but keeping your palm open. You don’t look up until he gives up, putting a 20 in your hand. “Pleasure doing business with you, Peña. I’m so looking forward to Indian Wells and Miami back to back”
You don’t realise that Natasha is also at the front desk, signing a couple of discharge forms.
It’s been a month and you’re already friends with half the people who work here. Natasha’s glad, because it can be miserable to be isolated while you’re away from home.
The other side of her can’t help but feel really stupid too, because all this time she thought you were flirting and in reality, this is who you are with most people.
Now that’s a fast way to humble someone.
“Hi, Doctor Romanoff” you say, finally noticing her. “Ending your shift?”
“Yeah. How about you?”
“Starting a 48”
“Didn’t you just do one 12 hours ago?” she says.
“Yeah, but my brother and sister are coming over so I need the weekend off” you smile, actually excited. Natasha is probably one of the only people who could understand how good it is to reconnect with your siblings, but she’s been distant with you ever since you came to Boston.
So, you wish her a good day, and walk to the madness of the ER.
“Fuck my life, fuck it hard” you mutter when you notice who’s there. Ed Lorne, aka clown nurse. He’s a young one, practically fresh out of college and with an unhealthy obsession to behave like Patch Adams in that movie that always puts you to sleep (No disrespect to Robin Williams).
“Please tell me his shift is almost over” you plead to Yelena.
“Don’t be mean. He’s trying to make an impression”
“He already did and it’s a fucking awful one”
The fact that there’s no swear jar around has turned you into a sailor on leave. Not that you keep track, but if the twins could hear you, they’d be set for an Ivy League education.
Stop thinking about this, you mentally scold yourself, trying to breathe to settle that uncomfortable feeling at the pit of your stomach.
Yelena mistakes your frustrated sigh with a protest as Ed approaches you. Truthfully, it’s a bit of both.
“Top of the morning to you, Doctor Y/L/N” he says, removing an imaginary hat.
God, you’re gonna strangle him with a stethoscope.
“Guy in bed six has problems with urinating and I’m like well, more like ur-out of my bladder!”
“Boy, you’re really bringing the theater kid energy today, aren’t ya” you complain, ignoring Yelena’s smack on your arm.
“Why, thank you for noticing”
“No, that wasn’t a compliment. Check all of my post ops and medication, then fill out the medical records in the computer”
That should keep him busy for the next two hours and away from you.
“Evil” Yelena mumbles, but she’s laughing along.
You take care of a few people, ordering lab tests and other stuff that is quickly taken care of by the staff. It’s nice to have an ER that is never short on medical personnel.
You finish your exam on a patient just in time to get your daily call.
“Hello, Judas”
“Darcy!” you say, always with the same enthusiasm.
“I hate you” she repeats, every day since you left. Well, minus the first week. You didn’t have a phone at all. “Carol hates you too and you’re no longer invited to her wedding”
You can faintly hear Carol’s voice in the background, shouting that what Darcy’s saying is not true.
“I’m trying to get her to come back” Darcy explains. “Look pal, it’s either the good way or the bad way aka getting you in the Psych ward until you go back to your senses”
“I don’t suppose you could get my stuff and send it over?”
“No, for two reasons. One, if I see Wanda I’m going to kill her and dos, you belong here. So it would be stupid to send stuff that you’ll need when you’re back. Besides, how do you know Wanda didn’t throw them away?”
“I just do. Ok, it was nice being emotionally manipulated by you, but I gotta scrub in. Same time on Monday? Remember I’m seeing Zach and Jenny this weekend”
“Yes, get me all the deets on the gossip and yes, same time”
“Love you, pal”
“Screw you”
Darcy hangs up, but stares at her phone for a moment longer. She does miss you and even if she’s giving you shit for it, she understands where you’re coming from.
“Are these the CVs for Chief Fury?”
“Yes” his secretary says, carrying a couple of files. “He doesn’t like to read on the computer”
“Oh, here, I’ll take those”
And Darcy does take them. Straight to the trash can.
Gotta make sure the job’s open when you come back.
—
You’re out of shape. It’s been 27 hours and the work keeps on coming. It doesn’t help that Boston is so much bigger than Westview.
As you sit in one of the front desks, looking over paperwork and lab results, Ed comes in, holding a deck of cards.
“Pick a card”
“Did you get the lab results for Mrs. Pattmore?” you say, resisting the urge to slap the deck to the floor.
“No, they said it would take another hour…”
“Can you check again? Thank you”
Fortunately, he leaves and you sigh.
“He’s quite the character” a man shows up next to you, and you nod.
“He is very useful when I need urgent results from the lab. The technicians can’t stand him so they rather not see him around” you laugh.
“I haven’t seen you before. I’m doctor Stephen Strange. Yes, that is my last name” he adds when you frown.
“Oh, nice to meet you. Yeah, I’m the interim Head of Trauma. Just until they find someone new”
“Huh. Not what I heard”
Well, there’s no way Melina will convince you to stay. But then again… you never thought you’d take the job in Boston.
“That’s definitely my plan” you assure him. “Were you on break?”
“Honeymoon. We just got back” he nods towards another woman who joins you, her smile wide. “Doctor Christine Palmer, meet… sorry, I didn’t get your name”
“Y/L Y/L/N. Congratulations to the both of you” you shake her hand.
“Thank you, how are you liking it here so far?”
“Everyone’s great” you say, but Christine catches your exhaustion.
“Lorne was just here asking to do a magic trick”
“Ah. That” she nods.
“Yeah” you get paged, and then wave at them. “See you around, and welcome back”
There’s a man coming in with a stab wound. Another shift from your work in Stark Hospital; the frequency of people who come in as a result of fights is a lot higher.
It was very rare to treat these kind of things in Westview.
“BP 130/70, no external bleeding or fractures” Yelena says and you nod, encouraging her to continue. “I want a chest X-Ray, transthoracic echocardiogram and blood work”
“The patient’s yours, Doctor Belova”
You’re honestly impressed. Yelena has been putting the work, and she’s very talented, especially while working under pressure.
“She has a good teacher” Melina speaks. The woman has a talent for knowing what people are thinking.
“Well, it’s in her blood, isn’t it? The whole Romanoff dinasty”
“Yes. By the way, this is your last patient. You’re not to be on call for so many hours in a week. The workload is very different here. And we will talk about a bonus so you can buy something to that girlfriend of yours to thank her for letting you be here”
About that.
Nobody knows Wanda kicked you out.
Except Yelena, but that’s because she kept asking about what Wanda said when you decided to come to Boston. The only way to shut her up was by telling her the truth.
It’s impressive that she’s kept the secret for so long.
“No need for a bonus, I’m doing my job as usual”
While you wait for the results of Yelena’s patient, the man begins to complain about pain between the shoulder blades.
“Lorne, book an OR and page Yelena” you say, knowing that’s a bad sign.
The blonde scrubs in as you begin the laparoscopy.
“What’s wrong? I’m still waiting on the results” she says, standing next to you.
“Pain between the shoulder blades is not a good sign for this type of injury. I’m seeing blood cloths in the anterior surface of the stomach and the liver. We’re switching to a laparotomy”
You find three lacerations in the liver and one in the stomach. Well, Melina’s plan didn’t work; you’re staying here for a bit longer.
As you move to inspect the pericardium, you look at Yelena, asking if she sees anything.
“No, it’s fine. Aside from the diaphragmatic perforation”
“And how are we closing that?”
“Ethibond suture with pledget” she answers after a slight hesitation.
“You’ll do it and I’ll be watching” you nod, moving aside. Truth is, your shoulder is hurting. It’s the old injury combined with the extra workload.
“Need any help?” Natasha walks in, and you shake your head no.
“I thought your shift ended”
“Came to do some post ops, and Doctor Romanoff asked me to help so you could go home”
“I’m fine” you lie. But Natasha stays in the OR, looking over Yelena’s shoulder.
“You’re making me nervous”
“Good. You could use some pressure. Y/N’s going soft on you” the redhead teases.
“I’m not!” you say, laughing. “I’ve been told I’m a great teacher”
“I’ve heard” Natasha nods.
Though Yelena takes a little bit longer than you would have, her work is excellent. Once you check everything’s done, you give the team instructions and scrub out.
“What are you doing with your siblings?” Natasha asks, joining you.
“Well, Jenny’s looking at NYU to apply. So I’ll meet them in New York, take them to a Broadway show. I was hoping they’d wanna go to the Met but not holding my breath for two teenagers to choose a museum”
“That’s fair. Have fun with your family” she smiles.
It’s weird to think about them as your family. They are, of course.
But to you, family is an entirely different group of people. One that you’ll never see again.
“Thanks. See you around” you nod, hoping to get some rest.
—
You never thought you’d be eager to see your family, but here you are, waiting in the airport, looking for Jenny.
As soon as she spots you, she runs towards you.
“Hey, kiddo”
“Make room for me” Zach says, jumping right in and making sure his sister has no room to breathe.
“You’re so annoying!” Jenny complains. Even if she’s three years older, Zach is a lot taller, being in that awkward teenage phase. “This trip was supposed to be just me”
“Y/N invited me” he says.
Well, kinda. He inserted himself in your conversations with Jenny, and as soon as he heard the words weekend in New York, he was ready to go.
“Well, I didn’t alter my girls weekend schedule for you, Zach. So just so you know, you’re getting a manicure and we’re plucking your eyebrows” you tease, walking them to where you parked. Of course they argue over who gets to ride in the front. “Alright, this is a rental. So, rule number one, no eating in the car. No throwing stuff at each other. No feet on the dashboard. And no one changes the music”
“Fine” they agree.
“First stop, the penthouse, then NYU”
Melina had heard about your trip and went out of her way to offer you everything at her disposal. Exclusive tickets, the Romanoff penthouse (apparently they have one in every major city), a reservation in a very nice restaurant.
You took most things happily. In a way, this is your compensation for emotional damages.
“So, what happened between you and Wanda?” Jenny says.
“Wow, can we at least have lunch first?” you accidentally hit the brake, making Zach hit his head against the headrest of your seat.
“I’m blind!”
“You’re fine” Jenny shushes him, turning to you. “I’ll tell you about our parent’s divorce”
“Ugh, deal. But you go first”
So, as you get food, Jenny tells you everything, with the occasional intervention from Zach. It’s nothing exciting, not technically. Their father finally realising your mother is an evil witch and taking their children away from her. It would have been ideal to do it when they were younger, but whatever.
“And you guys are doing good?” you ask, making sure things are better.
“Yeah… I just feel bad for her sometimes” Jenny admits. “Like what if she’s lonely or sad, you know?”
“That’s because you’re a good kid” you smile at her. “Let’s go get changed, we have to be ready for your college tour soon”
“What about your part of the deal?”
“Later” you say, trying to avoid talking about it.
By the time you reach the penthouse, you can’t help but admire the view to Central Park. It’s even bigger than the one they gave to you back in Boston.
“I want the biggest room” Zach says as soon as they drop their bags.
Of course, they’re engaging in a fight that involves some name calling and a lot of finger flicks on the forehead.
“You guys are worse than…”
They turn to look at you and you smile, trying to keep it together.
“Worse than…” Zach says but you shake your head.
“Nothing. Come on, better change fast”
Worse than Wanda and Pietro.
Will you ever stop thinking about her?
—
Earning the title of cool sister only takes a borrowed penthouse, Broadway tickets and exclusive seats at Yankees Stadium.
It’s day two and though you haven’t been able to convince them to go to the Met, you’re still enjoying yourself.
Kind of.
“So how long do these last?” you ask again, even if Zach explained the rules a dozen times already. “Ok, next time we’re going to the US Open because at least I’ll understand the game”
“So, you’re planning on staying here?” Jenny asks and you shrug your shoulders.
“There’s no plan for anything, really. I have two months left on my contract”
Zach goes to get more food and you keep watching the game in silence.
“Are you ok?” Jenny asks. Truthfully, though you’ve enjoyed spending time with them, Wanda’s been in the back of your mind more frequently than when you’re busy with work.
You can’t help but think about all the trips you never took with her, or wonder what she’d think about the city.
“Want the grown up answer or the big sister being brave answer?”
“I’d like the truth”
“Well…” you take a deep breath. “I’m not ok. I fucked up big time. I had everything I wanted within reach and just… I don’t know. Maybe it was never meant for me. It was too good”
“You are good enough for it, come on. Don’t say that”
“It’s hard to believe it when I hurt her so much. And the kids. But, it is what it is I guess”
“I’m sorry. If you wanna talk…”
“I know, sis. Thanks” you smile at her. All of the sudden you hear the crowd roaring and look up to see a ball that’s coming straight your way. You catch it, thinking nothing of it, while some people around you begin to speak to you. “What? Do I have to throw it back?”
“Are you insane?” Zach comes out of nowhere, taking it from you. “This is the coolest thing!”
“It’s a ball” you say, looking at the field.
“Nu-uh. It’s Camarena’s 50th home run. You know, the most promising baseball player of the season”
“Ok, if you say so”
Turns out it is a very big deal, as the player wants the ball back and is offering to meet you in exchange for it. You let Zach decide for the two of you, and his answer is an excited yes.
So, you take a couple of pictures and thank him when he hands you a signed baseball bat.
“Thanks, Carme…”
“Camarena” Zach elbows you. “I’m your biggest fan”
Yeah, you definitely earned the award to coolest sister, and it had nothing to do with all the money you spent. It came down to your ability to catch a freakin ball, like a competition with a golden retriever.
“We still have some time before we have to take the plane. What do you wanna do? You’ve been doing everything we want to” Jenny says, and you think about it.
“Let’s have a picnic in Central Park”
“Sounds fun” she agrees, while Zach keeps taking a million pictures of the bat.
As you walk around the park, you find something that unlocks a memory that was totally lost on you.
“Balto!” you point at a statue of the sleigh dog. They both look at you with blank expressions. “You’ve never seen Balto? Seriously?”
“I don’t know. Mom wouldn’t let us watch some stuff. She said it was silly to have a movie with speaking animals”
“That and Ghostbusters. But we never learned why”
“Oh, that’s because she and dad watched that movie on the day I was born” you explain while you pull out your phone to take a picture of the statue.
“Mom is such a bitch” Zach mutters and it makes you laugh.
“Come on, kid. Screw the picnic, I’m buying you the biggest burger we can find”
“See? I’m her favorite already” he teases Jenny and they begin to argue again. You hug them, staying in the middle to prevent a fight.
“Love ya both, kiddos”
—
Coming back to an empty house stings a bit more when you spent the weekend surrounded by playful banter and pleasant company.
The silence is unbearable and you know that at moments like this there’s only one thing that can make you forget.
So, even if you have to go to work tomorrow, you get changed and head for the usual club.
“Thought you found a better spot” Laura greets you as you approach the bar.
“Work was crazy” is all you say. No one knows your name, or what you do for a living. You just get drinks and dance to loud music.
“The usual?” you nod, accepting the glass of scotch. You enjoy it slowly for a bit, watching as some people dance and party. The outfits and the music are different from your time in college; plus Darcy and you used to go to shitty bars.
Either way, what hasn’t changed is how drunk people act; messy, unaware. You love it. No one’s asking if you’re ok, or why you're there.
“I was gonna buy you a drink, but you’re not done with that one yet” a woman offers with a flirty smile.
You finish what’s left of the scotch in one swift motion, and wink at her.
“There”
“Are you that thirsty, huh?” she teases, and you laugh, sipping from the new glass. “I’m Eve. You?”
“I’m… really thankful for my drink, Eve” you say, because you’re never gonna share your name with anyone else. “Wanna dance?”
The woman rolls her eyes, but follows you to the dance floor. It’s the perfect place to get lost, and avoid any conversation. The music’s loud, there’s people everywhere and you can simply disappear when you’re done.
It’s what you do best, isn’t it?
As you go out for another drink, there’s an impulse to talk to Laura.
“That was the name of a friend”
“What?”
“Laura. Well, not my friend. My ex girlfriend’s friend”
That’s about everything they have in common. This woman is covered in tattoos and has dark hair, styled in a mullet. Very Joan Jett, which is every girl’s type.
But my type is Wanda.
“Is that why you drink until I have to call you a cab?” Laura says, and you nod, taking a shot of tequila and asking for another one.
“Yeah. Come on, just one more” you plea when she’s doubting about giving you a third one. You pout and Laura rolls her eyes. “Thank you. Ah, I love this song!”
You blow her a kiss, running back to the dance floor. Wait, no, you don’t even know this song but it’s cool anyway.
And then the next one is good enough, until you’re a bit too drunk and have no idea what’s playing.
“Can I buy you a drink?”
To your disappointment, it’s a man.
“I’m fine!”
“Yes, you are” he says, putting his arm around your waist.
“I’m gay, dude. Stop it!” you push him away.
“Come on, you just need a good di…”
He doesn’t get to finish his sentence, not when your fist crashes against his nose.
Stupid move, as he’s tumbling to the floor, creating a commotion. You can tell he’s pissed when he stands up, but he never even gets to yell at you, because someone is pulling you back until you’re out of sight.
“You really are trouble” Laura tsks and you try not to laugh.
“He was an asshole”
“Yeah, he is. If it were up to me he wouldn’t go in at all. I have to get back to the bar. Stay here, drink some water. Then I’ll call you a cab”
“I’m sorry” you say, reaching for her when she walks past you.
“That girl did a number on you, huh?”
“I only have myself to blame” you smile sadly. “Thanks for the help”
Following the woman’s advice, you walk around the room, drinking some water and breathing to gather yourself. You’re vaguely aware of the pain in your hand, and remember that it was stupid to risk yourself that way.
If you can’t operate, Melina’s kicking your ass.
After a while, Laura comes back.
“Car’s waiting”
“Thanks… I owe you...”
“A cup of coffee”
You’re about to protest when she rolls her eyes.
“Not as a date. You have too many issues for me to handle. But I’d rather we stop meeting like this, with you starting a bar fight”
“Yeah, that’s fair” you smile, looking back before leaving the room. “My name’s Y/N, by the way”
“Nice to meet you, Y/N”
—
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
That’s all you can think about as you get ready for a 24 hour shift, sporting a massive headache and hangover.
You’re leaning against the elevator when the doors open, and you speak without opening your eyes, handing the keys of the car to Yelena.
“You’re gonna have to drive me today”
“Yelena already left”
You look up a little too fast, eyes meeting Natasha’s.
“Ah, jeez” you complain, feeling your head pound with the sudden movement.
“Rough night?” she says with a mocking tone, but then pays attention to your bruised knuckles, taking your hand. “What the hell? Are you ok?”
“Dude thought he could touch me and get away with it. It’s fine” you promise, though she doesn’t let go of your hand.
“You know mom’s gonna freak out when she sees this?”
“Don’t be a snitch, Romanoff” you say, stepping out of the elevator. “What are you doing?”
“Get in my car” she says, rolling her eyes. “You’re in no condition to drive”
“This is nice” you look around the Mercedes-Benz, reaching to touch the controls in the dashboard. Natasha slaps your hand away.
“Nicer than the Corvette?”
“Nah, let’s not get crazy”
“Did you have a nice weekend with the family?” she asks, rolling into conversation naturally.
“Yeah, we went to see Wicked because Jenny wanted to, then to a Yankees game where I caught the ball, which is apparently a big deal”
“It is, congrats”
“They made me buy some clothes that are not scrubs or…”
“Mini skirts? Like the one you wore last night”
“How did you…”
“My penthouse is in the same building, remember? Same as Yelena’s. Mom was smart enough to get a house away from everyone”
“Right”
“Doesn’t Wanda mind?”
That shuts you up real fast. And honestly? You don’t feel like lying. But as you’re about to answer her, she stops in the parking lot.
“Sorry, it’s none of my business” she mistakes your silence with annoyance.
“No, that’s not it” you explain, but then your phone pings. It’s a message from Jenny, sending you the Instagram post she made for the weekend in New York.
J: You made it to the gram!
Youths. You don’t even have instagram but click the link nonetheless. Yeah, those are nice pictures.
“Oh, you two came together?” Melina greets when she meets you in the hallway.
“Y/N can explain why” Natasha smirks and you glare at her.
“I was just feeling tired after the family trip”
“Natalia, who will be your plus one to the gala?” Melina changes the subject abruptly.
“I’m not taking anyone”
You direct your attention back to your phone, knowing they’re about to argue.
As you swipe through the pictures, a name catches your eye.
w.maximoff
What?
Does Wanda follow your sister?
She saw the pictures and liked them? Even if you were in them?
Don’t be an idiot, don’t think this means anything, she hates you, she’s better off without you.
The sudden urge to throw up has nothing to do with your hangover. You look around the hallway, and feel the desire to turn around and beg her to take you back.
You miss her too much, you can’t do this without Wanda.
Who are you kidding?
“Take Y/N” you hear all of the sudden.
“What?”
“Take Y/N to the gala with you” Melina decides, making Natasha roll her eyes.
“She doesn’t want to…”
“Yes. I’ll go” you interrupt Natasha.
Anything, anything at all to stop thinking about the one person who made your life worth living.
“Then it’s settled” your boss nods, pleased.
“Excuse me” you walk away, hoping there’s a ton of work that can keep your mind off everything else.
There is, and you’re grateful for the distraction it provides.
“I’m exhausted. How are you managing with a hangover?” Yelena complains after a few hours.
“Get some rest,” you mutter, looking at the lab results. “The OR won’t be ready for another hour anyway”
Unfortunately, it gets very slow as the day progresses. Everyone in the hospital is focused on a kidney transplant that is happening next week.
You see a woman walk in with her son to the ER and approach them.
“Hello, I’m Doctor Y/L/N. How can I help you?”
“Hi, yes. My son fell and I’m not sure, I think he might have hurt his wrist”
You turn to look at the kid, who is probably ten or eleven, and he looks back at you scared.
“I understand. What’s your name?”
“Kyle”
“Hi, Kyle. I’m Y/L. Can I take a look at your wrist?”
It takes him a moment to nod, but once he does you take him to one of the hospital beds where he sits. As you put on a pair of gloves, he looks around, clearly nervous.
“Cool shirt” you make conversation, noticing his Yoshi shirt. “My favorite is Rainbow Road, but the best time I ever did was on Vanilla Lake”
“Really? My favorite is Koopa Troopa Beach”
“That’s a good one” you agree, applying pressure on his wrist. “Ok, I don’t think anything’s broken but we need an X-ray to confirm. I’ll walk you there, it will take a minute”
Thankfully, it’s just a sprain.
“You’ll just wear a brace for a week, I’m also sending some medication for pain. Now, you’re gonna have to hold up on playing Mario Kart for a bit, as the movement isn’t good for your hand. Take it easy and if there’s any more discomfort or pain, come back to the hospital”
“Thank you” the woman nods, relieved that it’s nothing major. You’re about to say goodbye when her son hugs you.
“Take care, kid”
As you watch them walk away, your mind goes back to Billy and Tommy.
You miss them so much.
“Everything ok?” Yelena asks when you leave in a rush, walking towards the stairs.
Instead of answering her, you go down the steps, until you push the emergency exit, breathing heavily.
Don’t cry at work, don’t cry at work.
It’s not working. You squeeze your eyes shot, pinching the bridge of your nose.
A sob leaves your lips the minute Yelena catches up with you.
“It’s ok. I’m here” she says, hugging you.
“I miss them”
“I know. I’m sorry” is all she says, allowing you to cry as you lean your head on her shoulder.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be…” you finally gather yourself, wiping away the tears. Your face is hot with the embarrassment of being so emotional in front of Yelena.
“I understand. There’s nothing to be sorry about. Come on, you should get some sleep. I’ll cover the ER for a bit”
“Ok” you nod. But she still follows you to the break room, and as you lay in bed, Yelena makes small talk, asking about your trip and telling you some funny things that used to happen to her and Natasha when their mother would leave them to roam the city while she had board meetings.
As she tells you about her favorite things from the Met, your eyes feel heavy and you fall asleep, exhausted.
The younger woman looks at you, feeling a bit guilty. She understands that everyone in this situation is an adult, and sometimes relationships don’t work.
But it’s still hard to see you so heartbroken and lonely.
“Hey” Natasha walks in the room, and Yelena shushes her, leaning her head towards you. “Is she ok?”
“I don’t know” the blonde admits, closing the door behind her. “What’s up?”
“Mom told me you’re bringing a plus one to the gala! I thought we agreed no dates for this one”
“Oh, yeah…” Yelena blushes, and Natasha tilts her head.
“Who is it?”
“So, what are you doing? Should we find you a date?” Yelena rushes to change the subject, walking with her sister to the cafeteria.
“No, Y/N volunteered. Or, my mother kinda forced her to”
“Maybe it will be good to have a distraction. She’s having a rough time”
Natasha stays silent as they get some food. To be honest, she has been distant with you. It was hard to get close again after all the hard words you exchanged.
Natasha was just trying to protect herself.
“So you’re not gonna tell me who it is?” Natasha insists after a moment of silence. Yelena laughs, shaking her head.
“You’ll find out soon enough”
—
You open your eyes to the sound of your pager. The OR was busy for longer than anticipated and you’re about to go and check if everyone’s ready.
While you yawn, you dial Yelena’s number.
“Hello?” you hear Natasha’s voice.
“Why are you answering Yelena’s phone?” you say, doble checking that you indeed called her sister.
“Oh, crap. I took her phone by accident”
“Hey” you step out of the room, and find none other than Natasha, ready to leave for the day. “Guess your mother bought these phones in bulk”
You show her the mobile Melina gave you, though you insisted in keeping your number. It’s identical to Yelena’s and Natasha’s and every head of department has one as well.
“Heads up, she might be tracking your location”
“What? Can she do that?” you say, shaking the phone. Natasha smiles at that.
She forgets not everyone is expecting the worst from Melina.
“I better go and exchange phones with Yelena” the redhead says.
“Sure, can you tell her that the OR’s ready? Thanks”
You leave, but then Natasha’s voice stops you.
“Do you wanna do something tomorrow?”
There’s a hint of shock in your face, but you nod and smile.
“Yeah, sure. Wanna come over to watch a movie?”
“Sounds good” she agrees.
“Alright. See ya then” you wave goodbye.
Between this and the gala, Natasha doesn’t know if it’s a good idea to spend so much time together.
She’s about to find out.
—
Natasha is questioning her choices as she knocks on your door, thinking it might be unwise to spend alone time with you.
She had felt like you both got some closure after the emergency surgery on that woman. And then, one week later you had shown up at her hospital, as if you hadn’t refused the offer a number of times.
As if the thought of leaving your precious girlfriend behind wasn’t the craziest thing in the world.
“Hey, come on in” you greet, opening for her.
“Love what you’ve done with the place” she teases, watching as the only real decoration is a Polaroid picture of you and Yelena that is taped to the fridge.
“I’m happy this thing came with furniture or we’d be having dinner on the floor”
“Martha Stewart would be proud” she says and you roll your eyes.
“Come on, food will be ready in a bit” you say, asking her to open the bottle of wine.
“Where’d you get it from?” she asks as she hands you a glass.
“Uh, the grocery store?” you look back from the stove.
“Wait, you’re making it? From scratch?” she puts her glass down, looking over your shoulder.
“Well, not from scratch, it’s not like I made the pasta”
“I thought you didn’t cook”
“I didn’t” you smile, offering her a taste of the sauce. “But I got used to the finer things in life, like a good old homemade meal, and had to figure out how to get something done”
“This is actually really good” she says, surprised.
“I will give you a pass because I am also surprised that my cooking’s not so bad”
It must have been because you used to watch Wanda cooking all the time.
Ah, shit.
Maybe eventually you’ll go a day without thinking about her. Or not, and that’s your karma for being an idiot.
Once everything’s ready, you pull out two plates, and serve the food.
“What do you wanna watch?”
“Not sure, could we eat first?”
“Why, want to check that I won’t give you food poisoning?” you joke, but Natasha doesn’t laugh. “Oh, come on! I’ve never gotten sick and it’s been a month!”
“Let’s just eat”
“Fine, are you sure you’re gonna be ok talking to me? You’ve been avoiding me since I arrived in Boston” you comment, though you can’t be mad at her.
It was easier to blame her for your screw up that own up to it. You’re not particularly proud of it.
“I wasn’t sure if your girlfriend would give you shit for talking to me”
“We’re not together anymore” you blurt out, making Natasha stop chewing.
“You’re shitting me”
“She broke up with me” you shrug your shoulders. “So I quit my job and ran away like the asshole I am”
There’s a beat of silence, and you keep eating. You’re not expecting anything from Natasha, like pity or words of comfort. It’s just the way things are.
“I had no idea… I’m sorry. I feel responsible”
“Nat, don’t. Honestly, you weren’t wrong. I am attracted to you, and I didn’t set boundaries. If anything, I’m sorry for being a jerk and ruining our friendship”
She keeps eating quietly, and you know that she accepted the apology without making a fuss about it.
“Crazy, stupid love” you mumble after a couple of minutes.
“Yeah, I guess it can be”
“No” you snort out a laugh. “I mean that’s the movie I wanna watch!”
“Oh, I don’t know it” Natasha rolls her eyes.
“Of course not, it’s not a Bond movie. Come on, now that you’ve seen my food won’t take you to the ER, let’s get everything ready” you say, picking up the dishes. Maybe you’ll make popcorn, even though you are full.
“Wait a minute” Natasha says, and when you turn around, she’s got you cornered against the kitchen counter.
“Huh?”
“You said you are attracted to me. Not were. So you still are” she smirks, eyeing you up and down.
“Well, yeah. Have you seen yourself?” you stutter. It’s not helping that you’ve gotten used to physical intimacy and you’ve been craving it for the past weeks.
But that makes you think of Wanda again.
“I just… you deserve more than being a rebound, Natasha. And I am serious when I say I’m not staying beyond my contract”
You know you can’t be someone who isn’t heartbroken and in love with Wanda. But you can at least be honest about it.
“I know. It’s just fun to watch you get all flustered” she says with a sultry voice.
“Not funny” you say, pushing her away.
“Let’s watch that silly, corny movie now” Natasha rolls her eyes.
“You’re gonna love it”
“Doubt it”
As you suspect, she’s critizing Cal at every possible turn, calling him a loser. She’s also constantly texting about the hospital in between complaints.
“Hey!” she protests when you snatch her phone.
“I know we’re both workaholics, but you’re missing the parts with Emma Stone which are arguably the best ones. And this big reveal will blow your mind”
So, you put both of your phones down in the coffee table and take it as a win when she’s laughing at some of the moments in the film.
“Hannah is Cal’s daughter?” Natasha screams when you get to that scene.
“See?”
“Damn!”
“Bathroom break” you announce a while later, leaving the movie playing as you know the dialogues.
Natasha is actually interested in the movie when her phone rings and she picks up without looking away from the screen.
“Hello?”
She’s met with silence, which makes her actually pay attention to whoever called her.
Shit.
Wanda.
She took your phone.
But before she can explain or tell the other woman to wait, the call disconnects.
“What’s wrong?” you say when you return, sitting next to Natasha. “I know it’s sad, but I promise it has a happy ending”
“Y/N, I’m so sorry”
“Nat, you’re scaring me”
“I thought it was my phone, I picked it up. Wanda called you” Natasha says, handing over the phone to you.
“Oh” you tilt your head, shocked. “What did she say?”
“Nothing. She hung up. I’m so sorry”
“Well, maybe she just wanted me to get my stuff. That’s the only reason she’d call me, honestly” you say, returning to the movie.
“Why aren’t you freaking out?” Natasha insists.
“I don’t know” you confess. Maybe you’re in shock. It feels surreal to have Wanda call you, after everything she said to you.
You left your old phone at Darcy’s house before jumping on a plane. You only got your old number back after Melina gave you one of those fancy phones.
Now you wonder if she ever tried to call you.
“I should go”
“And leave me to drown in obsessive thoughts?” you say dramatically. “Look, what’s the harm here? That she’ll think the worst of me, and then what? We broke up. She kicked me out, I’m gone like Wanda asked me to. I’ll just text Pietro and ask if the kids are ok”
That was your real concern. You had a feeling that it could be a mistake or something very serious. And you’d always put your pride aside for the sake of the kids.
“We’re watching a horror movie now” Natasha snatches the remote as soon as the credits roll, looking for Insidious. “That will distract you for sure”
—
“You’re evil” you say when Natasha walks out, laughing.
“And you’re a baby”
“There was a demon! Sewing while that creepy song played. You’re sick, Romanoff”
“Sweet dreams, Y/N” she says, whistling the song as she closes the door.
Now you won’t be able to sleep.
But there’s also another thing in the back of your mind.
Pietro hasn’t answered which can mean that it Wanda's call was a mistake and he’s choosing to ignore you.
Or something so monumentally horrible happened that he doesn’t even have his phone on him.
“Fuck it” you say, trying to control your breathing as you dial back.
You begin to feel like an idiot, especially when it’s pretty obvious Wanda won’t pick up the phone.
Hands squeeze the device as you deal with the disappointment. You are about to hang up when you hear it.
Wanda, saying your name.
And for a moment, you feel like everything’s ok again.

Yandere Batfam x Neglected, but Defiant Reader
What's Next?
Warning(s): Yandere themes, past neglect, a lot of swearing, stealing, violence, mentions of bribery
(This is where now you can pick your own choices in this series, so this isn't technically a chapter)
~~~~~
Two weeks went by quickly, thank God.
You arrived at school as how you could have if it wasn't for Bruce ruining your fucking break by making you spend time with the rest of the family.
You were forced to watch movies that made no sense due to its plot or whatever and went shopping, only for them to buy you things that you didn't like that all. Like, who still buys and wears things that could cause a whole closet clutter.
The worst part of all this is that Damian has to walk you everywhere around the school, except for using the restroom. Even worse is that Bruce changed your entire schedule to you having teachers who love to fuck you over. Because of this, you can't skip anymore!
Anyway, the day quickly went by, and now it was break time. As you two walked into the cafeteria, you spot your two basically only normal and only friends, Noelle and Sasha.
"(name)! There you are...-"
Noelle calls out to you before her smile slowly flattered when she spots Damian beside you.
"What is he doing here?"
She whispers to you that made you roll your eyes.
This made Damian narrow his eyes down at the two of them.
"Do you have a problem with me being here?"
He asks with a snarl that made your friends cringe a bit.
"(name)..."
Sasha mutters out to you that made you sigh.
"No, no... Damian, they're cool, don't worry."
You reassure him that luckily made him calm down.
"Oh, alright then. Come now, sister. We need to find a table."
Damian tells you which made you feel annoyed.
"Oh, uh, actually. I need to get my water bottle. I left it in my locker, so..."
You try to make an excuse to get out of here.
"No worries, I can go get it for you."
Damian said as he turns around.
"Wait, you don't know my combination!"
You call out of realization.
"I'll figure it out."
He calls back as he leaves the cafeteria.
You and your friends stayed where you were in silence.
"Isn't this great?"
You speak up out of sarcastically as you sit down with them.
"(name), what are you doing with that guy?"
Sasha asks as she takes a bite of her pudding.
"Being stuck by his side for the whole day and the entire Christmas break?"
"No, why are you hanging out with him?"
"Oh, god, don't be a bitch over this. I know he's such a pain in the ass, but I can tolerate him, okay?"
"No, we're not jealous or anything, he's actually fucking insane, (name)!"
Noelle tells you
"Insane like how?"
You ask as you cross your arms.
"Sent many guys to the infirmary, punched a guy in the throat earlier, nearly set a teacher's car on fire."
Noelle said as she started to list down all the things that Damian did.
"Wait, so all of this happened in one day?"
You ask with your eyes wide a little.
"Yeah."
"How do you know all of this?"
"I have two classes and a passing period with him."
At that moment, a guy with a neck cast walked up to your table.
"Were you guys just talking to Damian?"
He asks the three of you.
"Yeah."
Sasha mutters out.
"I hate him. He literally punched me in the throat during gym and didn't even apologize to me or get expelled. I'm pretty sure he paid off the headmaster or something."
He said with his eyes furrowed that meant he was pissed.
"See?"
Noelle mutters to you.
"Hold on, why did he exactly punch you for?"
You ask out of curiosity.
"Cause I said that you were pretty hot and told him that he was a wimp about it or something."
He said as he rubs his cast.
"Still sound normal to you?"
Noelle asks you.
"Oh, come on. That's like one of the things that's like the less worse things."
You tell her.
"'Less worse'?! I was passed out for like half an hour!"
The guy said in a defensive tone.
"Dude, that sounds like a you problem."
You tell him with a bored expression.
"Oh... Shit hurts."
Sasha said with a chuckle.
"Fuck you, guys... Stupid bitches..."
The guy mutters out as he walks away from you and your friends.
"Anyway, what can I do about all of this?"
You ask as you place your chin on the palm of your hand.
"Honestly, I don't know. You're pretty much on your own, (name)."
Noelle said as she takes a sip of her honey milk.
"What? You guys aren't going to help me?"
"We want to, but we don't know how."
"Please? Like actually, please. I have no idea what to do and I don't even know how to get away from all this."
You tell your friends in a slight pleading tone.
Noelle and Sasha gave each other a glance before they stare back at you.
"Okay, fine. As much as we don't know either, we'll try whatever we can, okay?"
Sasha said as she sets her pudding cup down.
"What are you exactly going to do now, (name)?"
Noelle asks in a soft tone with a soft gaze on her face
~~~~~
Go to your next class (Coming soon)
Skip until the end of the day with your friends (Coming soon)
Go home with your friends

thinking about college classmate!kate bishop rn…
warnings: only fans reader, masturbation, smut (18+)
more specifically, her being the hottest and smartest girl in your college math class.
it’s a little crush. at least it was small in the beginning of the quarter. but oh my did that small crush grow.
this meant no more skipping lectures, no more rolling out of bed - instead you had to actually put effort into what you looked like before stepping out. this meant your eyes strayed from the white board and onto the woman sitting a few chairs in front of you. this meant your attention was no longer on your professor, no, your attention was on the girl that had no problem correcting every cocky classmate that thought they always had the correct answer.
with your attention on the pretty girl in class, it made perfect sense as to why your grade in the class reflected it.
you were stumped when you got your first midterm grade.
it wasn’t the absolute worst in the class, but it was way below average. you knew you had to fix it and there was only one way…. a private tutor.
ignoring the butterflies in your stomach and your sweaty palms, you chase after kate the second class is dismissed.
“kate!”
you watch as she turns at the sound of your voice. bodies squeeze past you as they rush to get to their class, the ones that push race to see who is the quickest to get in their twin-sized beds.
“oh hey, what’s up?”
she speaks as if you’re life long friends when in reality, you only spoke to her once.
“i was wondering if you,” you pause breathing in a shaky breath, “if you’d be willing to tutor me.”
you eyes stare to hers. you swear you see a flash of disappointment hit her eyes so you’re quick to suggest, “i’d pay of course! i just - well i didn’t get the best grade in our last midterm. i know there’s two grading schemes so i was thinking that if i has you as my tutor i wou-”
“i’ll do it.”
“really?”
“yeah, it’s no big deal,” she shrugs, her eyes masking the disappointment the second compensation was mentioned.
the two of your exchange numbers and set date. the two of your settle on your room, with your roommate staying over at her boyfriend’s apartment the two of you can study there.
-
with your private college only covering half your tuition and even less from your housing, you settled on selling your body to avoid student loans paired with years of debt. it wasn’t an easy choice, but it worked.
when your pockets were empty or you had a large sum in your student account it had become second nature to turn on your camera.
it had become second nature to watch as the light blinked red and watched as money poured into your account in a postorgasmic state.
unfortunately that second nature could no longer happen. after a few too many orgasms, your legs were a little too shaky and your hands were weak and couldn’t catch the kicked camera. you moaned as you reached your last orgasm and cried when you saw your trusty camera, in pieces, on the floor.
the income stopped coming in. luckily you weren’t due for another school bill, but kate’s compensation was going to cost you.
so that’s how you find yourself sitting at your desk, your phone in a makeshift tripod in front of you capturing the way your fingers slip past your lace panties and rub your sensitive clit.
the door is locked but you know there will be a knock soon.
so you drop your head back, keep your moans quiet and rub harsh circles on your clit. the pleasure is borderline painful as you reach a quick but small orgasm. putting on a show for the camera, whine and cry, land soft smacks on your sensitive clit and twitch at the contact.
in a rush, you stop recording, clean up and post the video. like a reflex, the money comes pouring in.
with only seconds to spare theres a knock on your door. the knock stutters as the woman behind it gets a notification on her phone, her favorite only fans content creator just posted and a video attachment sent from your saved phone number.
the thumbnails are identical.
before kate has a moment to process the information you open your door and almost immediately she recognizes the layout.

Bake
“I left cookies in the kitchen,” Nia said, walking into the main room of the Tower. Lena and Alex - who had been lounging on the couches - turned towards her. “Kara was in there, you guys may want to get some before she finishes them.”
“What type of cookies?” Alex said.
“Chocolate chip,” Nia said. “I was keeping it simple, trying out a new type of flour.”
“What type of flour?” Lena asked.
“Walnut,” Nia said, “It adds a bit of savory fla-”
But Nia cut herself off, noticing Alex half-jumping off the couch. “Walnuts?” Alex said, “Oh shit-”
Nia turned as Alex ran past her, glancing back to Lena who seemed just as confused as she was. The two followed Alex to the kitchen. “Hey Kara, don’t eat tho- Kara?”
The three entered the kitchen - but Kara wasn’t in it. The pile of cookies sat undisturbed, aside from three or so clearly missing from the top of the pile. “Oh no,” Alex said.
“What is it?” Nia asked worriedly. “Is she allergic?”
“No, it-”
“Wait,” Lena said, quieting the other two as she listened.
Slowly, she tilted her head up to the ceiling.
There Kara was, floating upside-down, hands clasped over her mouth in a failed attempt to stifle her laughter. “You should’ve seen the looks on your faces!” she exclaimed, her speech a touch slurred as Alex placed her palm to her forehead.
--- “So she’s… drunk,” Lena said, sparing a glance to her best friend before looking for traffic on the dark street.
“More like high,” Alex said.
“I am so sorry,” Nia said, “I’ll try the pecan flour next time.”
The three struggled to shuffle Kara towards Lena’s condo - the closest place she could stay. Power dampeners adorned her wrists as she giggled hysterically, the trio exasperated as they nudged her across another street. “How long will it take to wear off?” Lena asked.
“She should be fine by morning,” Alex grumbled. “Thanks for taking her.”
“LOOK at the MOON!” Kara said, before bursting into laughter.
---
Luckily, Kara was docile for someone high on walnuts.
The only incident had been the blonde giggling like mad over the lamps fixed to Lena’s ceiling, only to pout that she couldn’t float up to them. But Lena promised her that she’d be allowed to in the morning, which seemed to soothe Kara, and they both prepared for bed.
The kryptonian hadn’t seemed to mind the suggestion that they sleep in the same bed, for which Lena was grateful, not wanting to spend a night on the couch. Lena tried to ignore the hammering of her heart as she went about her normal routine, washing her face and brushing her teeth as Kara watched her with careful, warm eyes. “I wish you saw yourself how I see you,” Kara said quietly, her words still a bit slurred as Lena slipped into bed.
Lena sighed, curling up on the bed next to the blonde, pulling her blanket over their bodies. If her breath hitched with Kara’s warmth, Kara didn’t notice. “How do you see me?” Lena responded.
“Strong. Beautiful. Always trying to do the right thing,” Kara murmured sleepily, arms starting to wrap around Lena’s body as she nuzzled into her neck. “I really want to kiss you.”
Lena’s heart skipped a beat. Kiss me?
“Maybe someday I’ll tell you,” Kara breathed into her neck, before letting herself fall back slightly to sink into the bed, her eyes closing as she relaxed her grip, “That would be nice.”
Lena’s mind scrambled for what to say, and then she heard the kryptonian softly snoring.
---
Coffee.
Lena opened her bleary eyes, smelling the pleasant aroma of espresso. She noted the empty space in her bed, before throwing her blankets off, shuffling to her kitchen to find a pile of Irish scones and a very sheepish kryptonian. “Sorry for last night,” Kara said.
Lena could feel a flush creep on her cheeks as she took the coffee Kara offered across the table. “How much do you remember?” she asked.
“Almost none of it,” Kara confessed. “I just know I get really loopy on walnuts.”
Lena’s heart was already hammering as she sipped her drink, and she knew that was confusing to Kara. For a moment, she considered letting the whole thing go, but… dammit, I need answers. “Do you want to kiss me?” Lena asked.
Kara blinked back. “Is that… an offer?”
“No,” Lena said. “Well, yes?
“Um,” Kara said, shifting on her feet. “Which is it?”
“Yes,” Lena said firmly.
“Oh.”
Kara stared for a moment as Lena’s heart continued hammering in her chest, before finally stepping forward, cautiously making her way towards Lena as though she couldn’t quite believe what was happening. Lena swallowed nervously as Kara’s hand softly cupped her face. “So I did say something last night,” Kara murmured.
“I’m glad you did,” Lena murmured, a little breathless as Kara shyly smiled back.
Lena tilted her head, feeling the warmth of Kara’s body as she pressed in, feeling the tingling of breath against her lips. Lena wrapped her arms around Kara’s waist as Kara leaned closer.
And there was one last thought - thank god for walnuts - before Lena learned the taste of Kara’s lips.

SANZU LEAVES the bakery with a few bags of dorayaki tucked underneath his arm. He’s running ahead of schedule – he still has half an hour before Mikey expects him –, so he meanders through Tokyo's network of dark alleyways and hidden shortcuts.
He walks and walks and walks, letting his feet guide him wherever. He’s been working in the streets for long enough. He’ll know how to find his way back to Bonten’s headquarters no matter where he ends up.
He makes a left turn, a sharp right, two more left turns, until he hears the buzz of a nearby shopping district. He follows the sounds of people hustling about and finds a narrow path between two shops to slip through. He can see people walking by at the end of the path, but he doesn’t enter the busy streets, opting to observe and watch the crowds fluctuate instead.
And then he sees you. Clad in a flowing beige dress with a white t-shirt layered underneath, you’re staring off into the distance as the wind ruffles your hair. You’re laughing at something or someone, but as he tries to get a better look at you, a rush of shoppers streams past and blocks his view.
He slips a cigarette out of his back pocket, lights it, and breathes out a puff of smoke as he chuckles. When he glances back into the crowd, you’re gone. He turns around to retrace his haphazard path. Mikey likes his dorayaki warm.
–
Two weeks later, when Mikey’s supply of dorayaki has dwindled to a dangerous low, Sanzu returns to the usual bakery, accompanied by Ran this time.
The two are close colleagues, though Sanzu thinks “close” is too intimate of a description. Sanzu likes to keep people at arm's length away. Close enough to build cohesive, mechanical teamwork but not enough to skip pleasantries and create personal connections.
Sanzu is outside of the bakery, scrolling through his phone and tapping his foot as he waits for Ran. The latter always liked taking his time, and Sanzu’s patience was wearing thin. Luckily, his colleague walks out a few moments later. Sanzu is about to shoot a snarky comment when he notices that Ran is conversing with a woman.
It takes a few moments for Sanzu to remember who you are.
“Sanzu!” Ran calls happily. “Can you unlock the car?” Sanzu rolls his eyes before he slips the car keys out of his pocket. “Oh, and let me introduce you!”
You bow, offering your name and a few compliments to Sanzu’s suit. You wear a neat smile as you wait for his response. Sanzu, too, says his name and a brief “thank you,” all while avoiding eye contact.
Ran continues, “She goes to this shop regularly, as well. I wonder why we’ve never met before.” You nod in agreement before dismissing yourself, bidding the two a good rest of their day.
As Sanzu and Ran drive back to headquarters, Ran asks, “You know her?”
Sanzu groans before curtly responding, “No.” Ran hums, a smirk tugging at his lips, but does not press his pink-haired colleague any further.
It’s not like Sanzu was lying. He didn’t know you. He just saw you sometimes, and neither of you bothered to say anything when you did see each other.
However, after this interaction, you and Sanzu begin to cross paths frequently, always at the bakery every other Saturday at 8 AM sharp, when the dorayaki are almost out of the oven and the toasted pastries are being shelved.
Sanzu notices the pastries, such as the mango croissants and berry-filled sandwiches, because he always lets you order at the counter first. You always buy a lot. You carry at least two bags of food home, yet you never struggle with the weight.
He also notes the smooth lilt of your voice when you speak with the bakers. You seem to know the staff well, and he finds himself entranced by the highs and lows of your giggles, sassy retorts, and sincere praise.
You speak in the same sweet manner with him, which initially surprised him until he remembered that you aren’t aware of his occupation or lack of a moral compass. Although your exchanges are limited to questions of “How are you?” and “Any plans for today?”, he finds himself relaxing and basking in the casual nature of your exchanges. Usually, he replies to strangers with one or two words, but he comes to appreciate your lighthearted aura and matches the flow of the conversation.
And when the two of you part ways, you always say goodbye with a full smile, and with a few waves of your hand, you cross the street and disappear from his line of vision.
But Sanzu is not a consistent man (aside from his unwavering loyalty to Mikey), and his routines are often disrupted or forgotten. So when Sanzu finds you in one of Bonten’s warehouses, he mentally chides himself for being caught off guard. He switches gears and replaces his agitation with doubt and suspicion.
“What’s going on?” Sanzu asks Takeomi. His older brother huffs out a puff of smoke while handing him a thin laminated folder of photos and information.
As Sanzu flips through the documents, Takeomi speaks. “A client tried to rat us out. We captured a few of his employees to see if anyone knows anything.”
Sanzu hands the folder back before redirecting his gaze onto the kneeling employees. There are five in total – some of them shivering from the cold, others frightened still, all duct taped across the mouth. He narrows in on you for a second, observing the creases in your forehead and the tears that slip down your cheeks. His hands twitch.
“Did we get anything yet?” Sanzu asks again.
“Nothing so far. It’s a shame that we’ll have to kill them off,” Takeomi replies, though there’s very little remorse in his voice. It can’t be helped, Sanzu thinks, but he feels disappointment course through his body. He ponders on a compromise but drops the idea. Work is work, and you are no exception to Bonten’s procedures. All witnesses had to be killed, and Sanzu is not one to disobey Mikey’s orders.
But not all of the executives are as stringent as he is. Ran and Rindou saunter into the warehouse, and of course, the older Haitani bursts out with a joyful greeting when he sees you. You startle at his presence, and Sanzu can tell your shock and disbelief when your eyes widen. If your mouth wasn’t forced shut, your jaw would’ve dropped open as well.
Ran walks over to you and begins to untie the ropes binding your wrists, knees, and ankles.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Takeomi yells. A few ashes from his cigarette drift to the floor.
“Can we keep this one?” Ran yells back. “I like them!” Takeomi only scowls, peering at Mikey’s back. After waiting for a few moments, Bonten’s leader doesn’t react, and Ran smiles gleefully. Sanzu releases a breath he doesn’t remember holding. He reminds himself to maintain professionalism again. However, the more he stares at you panting and heaving, the more overcome he is by an itching need to take you somewhere far, far away.
“No.” He blurts without thinking, surprising Ran and Takeomi.
“Uh, sorry?”
“No, we’re not keeping her.” Ran knows not to argue against Bonten’s No. 2, but he huffs and crosses his arms, a scowl on his face.
“Then what else can we do to make sure she doesn’t say anything if we can’t kill her?” Takeomi asks. Sanzu doesn’t have an answer.
After discussing with Mikey, Takeomi, and Kakucho, Sanzu is tasked with the responsibility of checking in on you every two days. You aren’t opposed to the idea – not that you have a choice –, and you are escorted home by Sanzu soon after being notified of your release.
During the drive home, Sanzu asks you questions, gathering information and noting interesting tidbits. You’re the same age as him, a simple employee of a large corporation with a corrupt Board of Directors, and, to his surprise, have a five-year-old daughter.
While Sanzu has acquired many skills fit for a criminal, negotiating and speaking tactfully has yet to be something he is capable of.
“And the father?”
You glance out the window. “Ran away.”
“Why?”
You shrug. He clicks his tongue.
“Can I ask a question, if you don’t mind?” you ask.
After a few seconds of silence, you continue, “What’s going to happen to my coworkers?”
“They’re dead.”
The rest of the ride is silent, as well as the walk up to the third floor of your apartment complex. Sanzu needed to know where you lived, and the easiest way was to escort you to your home. However, before you slip inside your room, you turn around to face him.
Sanzu freezes.
Your eyes are fierce, an icy flame burning in your eyes. Your pupils dilate, more color than white, and you glare at him for a few moments. Then, in a level – almost cold and condescending – voice, you say, “My daughter will be protected.” Sanzu swallows, surprised at your intensity, before nodding once. You smile at his affirmation, though it doesn’t reach your eyes, and bid him farewell.
–
As promised, Sanzu visits you every two days. Most of the time, he simply drops by in the morning before you leave for work and says a quick greeting. You usually rush to the door from the kitchen, wearing a black apron covered with flour and powdered sugar. On Saturdays, the two of you visit the bakery together.
“Where’s your kid?” he asked once.
“Oh, I sent her to daycare already.”
“Even on the weekends?”
“She used to only stay for the mornings, but now she stays until lunch.” Sanzu is about to inquire about the change before it clicks.
“I must be keeping you,” he mutters and rubs his nape. Sanzu rarely apologizes, even implicitly, but he’d never wish for a child to suffer from neglect as he did.
“No, no, not at all! My daughter loves the daycare and her friends there. Besides, I like our time together.” You pat his shoulder before wrapping your hands around one of his. “You make my Saturday mornings.”
The way you effortlessly say “together” and hold his hand baffles him. He’s part of a major yakuza group. He killed your coworkers. By pure association, you and your daughter would forever be in danger. Furthermore, even if Sanzu wasn’t a higher-up in Bonten, it’s not like he’s an upstanding individual with a healthy lifestyle.
Sanzu had his fair share of relationships, though they were all very noncommittal and ended as soon as he shot them in the head. It’s not like he wanted to kill them, but whenever he was caught on the couch doing drugs, they always threatened to report him, and he didn’t want to waste time behind bars. Besides, he never considered a single one of them as a lover.
While you showed a lack of shock or discomfort whenever he visited on his more… spent mornings, Sanzu knew you would be no different. Out of best interests of both of you, Sanzu knew he should keep his distance.
But that’s kind of hard to do when you see someone so often, and Sanzu doesn’t realize it until Mikey calls him over.
“Sanzu, what’s this?” Hand steadying the tsuka of his katana, Sanzu turns around and faces his boss, who is sitting behind an ebony wood desk. A brown paper bag dangles from Mikey’s fingertips.
“Is that not dorayaki?” Mikey pulls out a large cream puff covered in powdered sugar and condensed milk.
Sanzu’s eyes widen. His job is to follow Mikey’s orders as they are delivered. Providing excess was as shameful as underperforming.
“My apologies, I must have grabbed it by accident.”
“I never knew you liked sweets.”
I don’t, Sanzu thinks. But he sure as hell knows who does.
“Do you want me to get more dorayaki tomorrow?”
Mikey looks at the clock before he tosses the bag into Sanzu’s unexpecting hands.
“You’re done for tonight.” Sanzu’s heart weighs a ton, acting almost akin to a kicked puppy. He has strived for years to become his boss’ right-hand man, yet he has failed at one of his most basic, routine tasks. “And bring more of those cream puffs in the morning.” Sanzu nods, refusing to disappoint Mikey further, and leaves the office to head toward the garage.
In the driver’s seat, the executive pulls out his phone. It wouldn’t hurt to try, he thinks. He calls you. It rings for a few moments, but you eventually pick up with a soft “Sanzu?”.
“I’m heading over to your place,” and he’s backing out.
Sanzu’s not sure why he’s in a rush. Probably ‘cause of Mikey, he convinces himself. But he’s also aware of the time. It’s a little past midnight, so your kid’s probably asleep.
When he appears in front of your entrance, he doesn’t even need to ring the buzzer before you throw the door open.
“Is something wrong?!” You’re heaving, hair messy from sleep and blue-light glasses slipping from the arch of your nose.
“I should be asking you that,” Sanzu replies.
“You’re the one who called me and said that you were coming over with no context! Is something wrong?” Your cheeks are flushed with exasperation, and he can’t help but stare at you with slight amusement. Sanzu gestures to come in, and you scramble to get out of the way.
“Your kid,” he says as he takes off his shoes, “what’s her name again?”
“Chizu.” You’re really glaring at him now, with cheeks puffed out, and Sanzu thinks this entire situation is comedic. “Why are you asking me that?”
“You know, people would usually ask why before answering.” He takes another glance at your stiff figure before continuing. “Anyway, I accidentally bought a cream puff from the bakery this morning, and I remember you telling me once that Chizu enjoyed these.”
“That’s all?”
Sanzu hums in affirmation.
You relax, relieved that it isn’t an emergency and even a little touched that he remembered what you said. Before you can thank the pink-haired man, a door cracks open.
Your little girl whines. “Mommy, you’re loud.”
“Oh, sorry, sweetheart. I was just doing some paperwork in the kitchen. I’ll be more careful, alright?” You crouch down to embrace your daughter, but your shoulders aren’t wide enough to hide Chizu’s line of sight from Sanzu.
As a result, the little girl is wide awake. She wriggles out of your hug, darts under your open arms, and speeds toward the man.
“What’s your name?”
Sanzu looks at you, and you grimace with a weak apology. Sighing, he squats down and decides to indulge the little girl.
“My name is Haruchiyo. It’s nice to meet you, Chizu.” Your daughter gasps in delight, excited that this stranger already knows her.
“How do you know my name? Who told you?”
Sanzu chuckles at her awe. “Your mom always talks about you.”
“So you’re Mommy’s friend? I thought Mommy doesn’t have friends.” You cringe a little.
“Your mom is very proud of you, so be nicer to her, alright?” Sanzu tries to pat the little girl’s head but ruffles her hair instead. He then gets up and ambles toward the door.
Taking his cue, you also rise and shuffle towards the door. “It’s getting late, Chizu. Go back to bed.”
Before the two of you even notice, Chizu’s tugging at Sanzu’s slacks, little balls of fists wrinkling the fabric. “Haru, stay!” Sanzu struggles to hide his annoyed groan, and you struggle to convince your daughter to let go.
“Haru, stay! You’re Mommy’s friend, so you have to stay!” Chizu’s whining transforms into loud pleas, and when she gets this way, you know the only way to appease her is to give her what she wants.
“Haru…,” you mouth. “One night wouldn’t hurt, would it?”
Sanzu shoots you a deadpan look, and you return with a steady one.
Finally, he gives. Chizu’s sobs were grating his ears, and driving back to his cold and empty condo was just not worth the effort.
“Stop spoiling the brat,” he mutters through gritted teeth as the two of you lead Chizu back to her room.
–
You haven’t woken up next to someone in years. Chizu is already 5-years-old, meaning it has been almost six years since your ex-boyfriend left you.
It’s early, sometime between four and five in the morning. Sanzu is snoring next to you, and you’re extremely tempted to brush out his bangs. You’re unsure if your need to touch the man comes from a place of genuine attraction or of chronic loneliness. So you settle down and decide to admire him as you wait for sleep to take over once again. You notice that Sanzu looks like he’s in pain when he’s asleep.
–
Sanzu hasn’t woken up next to someone in years. He never let any of his previous girlfriends stay the night (probably another reason why they always wanted to break up).
It’s early, probably a little past seven. Much of his job and Bonten’s activities happened at night, so he usually would never wake up until afternoon the next day. He only wakes up at nine in the morning every other Saturday.
You’re sleeping on your side, one arm folded into your chest and the other draped over the blanket. He wonders how you’re breathing because half of your face is smothered into the pillow, but he doesn’t question it because you’re constantly exceeding his expectations. Sanzu feels the urge to get up and cover your dangling leg with more of the blanket. Yet he decides against it; jostling the bed might wake you up. So he waits for sleep to take over once again.
–
The next time the two of you meet is two days later in the lobby of your apartment complex. Sanzu spots you first and waits for you to notice him. You do a few moments later, after shuffling a crumpled folder into your shoulder bag. You manage a weak smile and try to smooth down the wrinkled front of your blazer as you shuffle over to his side.
You greet, “Late night?”
Sanzu snorts. “Always.” You wait. You’ve always thought Sanzu’s eyes are a gorgeous shade of blue, but you have a much clearer view as the man stares at you. It’s an electrifying, piercing blue – bright and almost neon. “The boss wants to see you.”
You choke. And barely manage to sputter, “Boss? You mean, your boss?”
“He wants to know how to bake bread.”
“Oh.”
Very normal. Your average neighborhood (and potentially national) yakuza boss wants to bake. Just another day.
Next thing you know, you’re in front of a large apartment building that screams elitism from the gold engravings on the steel fence to the three large cherub fountains in the center of the courtyard.
“This is where the boss stays most of the time.” As the two of you ride to the top floor of the complex, Sanzu explains to you that this entire section of the prefecture is owned by Bonten. Many of the executives live here or nearby for ease of communication, as Tokyo is the organization’s center of operations.
Given all of that information, you expected more… grandeur. There should have been dozens of guards, weapons out in plain moonlight, and security checks to prevent you from exposing Bonten.
As soon as the elevator door opens, Ran rushes over and waves enthusiastically. “Good to see you again!” he exclaims.
You wave in return and take his hand, following his lead as he guides you to the entrance of Mikey’s home. Sanzu trails behind the two of you, accompanied by another man who has the same tattoo as Ran.
“You know, I would’ve never expected the boss to be interested in cooking! Mikey is a disaster in the kitchen – actually, he’s horrible at housework in general. All of us executives have to clean up after him,” Ran says.
Again, you assumed Mikey’s home would be rich with glamor and sparkle. But the interior is quite minimalist, or rather, it’s empty. You try your best to listen to Ran, but your eyes wander around. From the entrance, aside from a leather couch and a glass dining table, there are no other decorations or items with sentimental value in sight.
Approaching the living room, you are faced with four more men. They offer stiff nods before glancing over at the hunched figure sitting in front of the kitchen island.
“Boss,” Sanzu calls.
No response.
Still nothing.
Not a word or move.
You suck in a breath. You speak in as steady of a voice as you can. “Thank you –”
You feel the second-in-command glare holes into you as he threatens, “Stop –”
“Let her finish.”
You glance at the figure. “Thank you for having me.” A few moments of silence pass, and you ask, “What kind of bread would you like to eat?”
“Mikey wants to bake,” Sanzu grits out through clenched teeth.
“I know.” You turn around and give him a stern glare before looking back at the boss. “But it’s important to make something you want to eat. Isn’t that the point?”
Mikey slides out of his chair. With bated breath, you watch as he meanders towards you, head bowed and hands tucked into his pant pockets.
“Cream puffs.” Mikey’s voice is quiet and low. Smooth but gravelly and rough whenever he finishes a sentence.
Cream puffs aren’t a type of bread, you think. But of course, you’d never say that out loud.
“Cream puffs sound wonderful.” You smile, even though you know Mikey can’t see you. “We should get started then.”
“Well,” Ran interrupts, “we don’t have any ingredients.”
You spin around. “We don’t have anything?”
Ran shakes his head.
“Sanzu.” You turn toward the pink-haired executive. “Do you think food appears out of thin air?”
“Huh? Of course not – What the actual –”
“I’ll text you a list of things we need. Go to the grocery store. Now.”
Sanzu spews confused curses and retorts at you as Ran laughs and drags him out of the apartment. The other executives trail behind, sharing an unspoken understanding that nothing will be accomplished unless they go, too.
Only you and Mikey remain. The latter stands in front of you as you text Sanzu ingredients. You even momentarily forget about the boss as you mutter under your breath and cross-check your list with other recipes.
Mikey watches. But Mikey has never been one to beat around the bush.
He says your name after you send the text.
“Yes?”
“You can be with Sanzu, as long as he prioritizes his work.”
Though you are confused, you opt to nod.
“Be prepared to lose him.”
Mikey pulls out his phone from another pocket and dials a number. “I’m going to sleep. Take her home.”
Throughout the rest of the evening, you repeat Mikey’s words over and over again in your head, flipping them inside out, bending them backward and forward. Mikey’s words are like a shiny coin. You examine the contents of its surface and circumference, searching for a deeper meaning - was there a secret message? a signal or nuance? - if it even existed.
I can’t lose him if I never had him, you think. It’s been a few months since that evening in the icy warehouse, and you’re acutely aware that Sanzu has eased his way into your life. You make his morning coffee (with no sugar and soy milk) along with yours, and during the times when he checks in on you at night, he stays in the car as you pick up your daughter. As a result, even Chizu has taken an extreme curiosity toward the man, and Sanzu has to stay over until the little girl falls asleep. Most of the time, Sanzu half-heartedly listens to Chizu’s chattering, but if he’s feeling generous (which you can tell when he lets your daughter cling onto him), he also reads her a bedtime story or two.
You realize: Losing Sanzu wouldn’t just hurt you – it would also damage Chizu, and she was already being bullied for having a single mother.
Recently, thinking about Chizu has left you feeling a little restless. Don’t get it twisted – you’re damn proud of yourself. You have a comfortable, plush home, enough nutritious food for three meals every day, and Chizu’s going to attend a well-established elementary school next year. You’ve done well, and you know some things are out of your control, but your accomplishments can’t always shield you from negativity and doubt. Sometimes, you think, it’d be nice if you had someone to lean on.
–
“What’s going on?” You notice that Sanzu’s fingers are tapping erratically on the steering wheel. He’s also glaring at the red light. “Well? Out with it,” he sneers.
“Chizu’s getting bullied.”
A vein appears on Sanzu’s temple, and you’re not sure if you should be more intrigued or scared by his reaction.
He curses and says, “Let me guess. The kids find it weird she doesn’t have a dad?” Your silence is all the affirmation he needs as the light turns green, and he makes the left turn to Chizu’s daycare.
When you buckle Chizu into her booster seat, Sanzu turns around.
“Kid.”
Chizu stops her chattering. “My name’s Chizu.”
“Squirt, if the other kids pick on you for only having a mom, tell them that you’re goddamn proud that she’s your mom, alright?” Chizu nods enthusiastically and pecks your cheek. “Also,” Sanzu continues, “just say that I’m your dad. That’ll shut ‘em up.”
“OK!”
You panic. You hurry back to your seat, and as Chizu babbles about her day, you look at Sanzu with concerned eyes. He gives you one unbothered side glance, and his eyes are trained back on the road.
The two of you don’t talk until a little past one in the morning. You finished up some last-minute tasks, and Chizu is in deep sleep. To avoid waking her up, though, you usher Sanzu into your bedroom, only leaving the door open by a crack just in case.
“Why did you tell Chizu you’re her dad?”
“To get the other brats to zip it.”
“Do you know what it means to be a dad?”
Sanzu thinks for a moment. “No, but at least I know what a dad shouldn’t be.”
You touch a hand to his cheek. “I see. You don’t have to explain if you…”
Sanzu’s lost in thought, deciding whether or not to tell you.
The man sighs. “I had a younger sister. Her name was Senju, and she was just as annoying and clingy as Chizu. We were raised by our older brother – you saw him at Mikey’s place, the man with the large facial scar. I hate to admit it, but when Senju was around, it felt like we were a family.
“Looking back, I think the reason why Senju was so needy was because our parents were never around. I don’t give a shit about trauma or whatever, but it makes sense. She just wanted someone to care for her. We didn’t get bullied for it, though, because our older brother would throw cigarette butts at whoever tried to, and besides, our neighborhood was full of broken families and kids. Chizu’s just a fucking loud twat, so she needs someone to defend her.
“I’m not saying you’re a shitty mom, but you’re busy. You can’t defend your kid if you’re nose-deep in work 24/7.”
“Sure,” you say. You choose your next words carefully. “But… how is a Bonten executive like you any different?”
“I’ll just be a big, scary dog. I’m not actually going to be Chizu’s dad.”
“That’s not what you told her, though.”
“Huh?”
“You told Chizu that you’ll be her dad. She’s going to think you’re going to stay around and act like the father figure she never had.” You reach out and pinch Sanzu’s arm. “Don’t go back on your word.”
Sanzu swats away your hand and, with a clenched jaw, acquiesces. “Fine.”
–
You’ve never been good with confrontation. Confrontation made you lose your ex-boyfriend and all the support from your family, and you were never really good at it anyway. If anything, you prefer time to wash all the tension away and resolve things. But the present issue is entirely new to you, and your impulse is split between wanting to scream your emotions at a plaster wall or burying them so deep that even you would eventually forget they existed.
It’s been two weeks since Sanzu declared himself as Chizu’s father. Since then, both of you have decided on rules and boundaries and resumed your daily routines. The only difference is that Sanzu spends all of his free time with you and your daughter, meaning he’s over more often. As a result, you’ve only become more and more aware of the Bonten executive, and you fear that you’re overexerting your heart.
There’s no way you could tell Sanzu what you’re experiencing. You’re worlds apart, you remind yourself. Despite your gentle chiding, the side of you that wants to confess and lay out everything to Sanzu only grows stronger with each passing day. So what do you do? How do you manage all the butterflies, goosebumps, and icy hot chills that appear at the mere thought of Sanzu?
You throw yourself into work.
It’s fall in Japan, which means job-hunting season. After very little consideration and hesitation, you go job-searching. Spending hours researching, revising your resume, and developing your portfolio were practical and easy ways to divert your attention, and after two months of cold-emailing and passing interviews, you land a stellar job as a marketing manager for an expanding restaurant chain.
Not only did you get to work a job that combined two of your main passions, but the paychecks are also heftier. That night, to celebrate the wonderful news, you crack open a can of beer as Chizu sleeps. Just a small reward, you think smugly.
“You drink?”
You glance at the door where Sanzu is untying his loafers as you chug down your second glass. You hum a little, which echoes inside the cup.
“Let me have some.” Before you can contest, Sanzu swipes the beer can and swallows the remaining liquid before letting out a relieved sigh. He then stalks to your fridge, pulls out four more cans, and sets them down at the dining table.
Usually, you would’ve snarled at anyone who touched your drinks. You rarely drink, so your stash is always limited to your favorites. With a shrug, you let Sanzu off - only because you’re in a good mood.
As you refill your glass, you ask, “You’re back early. Is something wrong?”
“None of your business.”
You’ve come to realize that when Sanzu says that, he doesn’t mean it in a rude manner. Taking it literally, he’s right. None of the work he does is legal or ethical, and hearing about the number of people he killed today would ruin your mood immediately.
“Why are you drinking?” he grunts.
You smirk before replying, “I got a new job. It’s also close to Chizu’s daycare, so we don’t have to rush to pick her up. If you can’t drive us, we can always fetch a cab home.” Sanzu mumbles something, but it’s muffled as he downs another large gulp.
At this point, both of you are a little tipsy. You giggle at Sanzu’s slurred stories of his middle school days, and he listens to you as you share memories of when Chizu was a toddler.
“You know,” he says, “you’re so much more different from what I imagined.”
“How so?”
“When I first saw you, I thought you were just this little pretty thing. You were wearing this white dress or whatever, and you were just standing there under the sunlight.” You have no idea what he’s talking about.
You feel a little more sober. “Are you… disappointed now that you’ve gotten to know me better?”
Sanzu perks up at your question and shakes his head from side to side, over and over again. You throw your head back and laugh. He’s adorable when he’s inebriated.
“I like independent women,” Sanzu says.
You don’t know if it’s the alcohol or the fact that Sanzu isn’t looking you unabashedly in the eye like he normally does, but you slide to the edge of your seat and lean your head on his shoulder.
As expected, Sanzu tenses up and shoots you a hesitant glare. Somewhere in the back of your head, you know that you’re playing with fire, but you’ve given up on lying to yourself a long time ago. You like Sanzu, you want him, and all you need right now is closure.
Finally, you ask, “Do you like me?” You wait for Sanzu to shrug you off, to bark a clear rejection, and to leave your home. But a few moments pass, and the silence enables you to hear his shallow breaths. When he continues to remain still, you look up at him.
Instead of seeing a scowl, Sanzu’s face is flushed pink, and the tips of his ears are a cherry red.
“Sanzu?” you breathe.
Nothing.
“Don’t tell me that you’re so drunk that you have paralysis.”
You get out of your seat and head towards the bathroom to grab a warm towel. You pout as you wring the towel out. You were expecting a straightforward answer from Sanzu, but his lack of one is getting your hopes up.
When you return, Sanzu is slightly hunched over while he scrolls through his phone.
“Are you feeling better?” You approach the pink-haired man. He looks up, and you take this chance to hold his chin up with one hand and wipe his forehead with the other. Sanzu sits there, unmoving and basking in the warmth and gentleness of your hold.
Sanzu decides to act when you begin to retract your hands. He reaches for the wrist holding the wet towel and pulls you in until you’re standing between his legs.
“I do.” He speaks so calmly yet so confidently, and it takes you a few seconds to process.
A wave of relief, sadness, and adoration overwhelms you. You don’t realize you’re crying until you feel the rough pads of his fingers wipe at the corner of your eyes. You blubber an apology or two, but you only begin to sob harder. Still vigilant of Chizu, though, you attempt to muffle yourself by placing the towel over your mouth.
Sanzu pulls you onto his lap and continues to brush away your tears. His expression hasn’t changed, but it’s the most serious he’s ever looked in front of you, and that’s all it takes for you to break down and hand him the broken pieces of your heart.
–
You wake up with a gasp. You sit up, accidentally throwing off the arm that’s wrapped around your shoulders, and gulp deep breaths.
Sanzu wakes up, too, and groans unhappily.
“What are you doing?” he croaks. “Go back to bed.”
“I would -” You cough a little and rub at your throat. “I would if someone wouldn’t hold onto me for dear life.” You continue to gulp deep breaths before you lie back down. This time, Sanzu’s arm slips down and wraps itself around your waist, dispelling your disgruntled expression. He mumbles something along the lines of “Better now?”, and you nuzzle your nose into the crook of his neck in return.
Sanzu yawns. “Is Chizu staying home today?”
“She has a sleepover tonight, so I’ll drop her off in the afternoon.” You’re falling back asleep so your voice trails off at the end of your sentence.
Sanzu is, too, but he manages to say, “I’m glad she’s having fun,” before he’s out like a light.
Because Chizu was out for the weekend, you spent your Saturday grocery shopping and deep cleaning the apartment. Sanzu was also busy with work, but he said he would be back at night.
Just the notion of the two of you being alone makes you nervous, and you slip a few times on the wet kitchen floor when you lose yourself in the thought. You’re excited and nervous, eager and yearning, but hesitant and self-conscious. A large part of Bonten’s operations occurred in underground nightclubs and bars, so Sanzu has seen his fair share of charming girls. You’ve never been insecure about your body, even after having Chizu, but the possibility that you can’t compete with Sanzu’s previous flings sends a nauseating ache to the pit of your stomach.
When Sanzu arrives just in time for dinner, the anxiety persists, but you’re grateful that he doesn’t seem to notice. In fact, Sanzu acts normal. He complains about his colleagues and the inflation of gas prices; he cusses and mutters colorful insults at the coffee table when he stubs his toe; and most importantly, he only touches you when you initiate.
That’s something you never expected from him, truth be told. Sanzu, though caring in his ways, is brutish. Demanding. While you hoped he wouldn’t take you by force, he hasn’t asked you for any physical affection, and you like to take pride in the fact that he treats you with unspoken respect. Only when you reach your arm out onto the dinner table does he hold his hand out to intertwine your fingers together. When you’re watching some comedy show on the bed, he ruffles your hair when you poke his shoulder. Even after kissing him, he simply holds your hip before letting you go as you pull away.
“Did that feel alright?” you whisper.
Why do you feel so ashamed? You’ve kissed people before. You’ve been loved before. So why is it that you can’t bear to look at Sanzu?
Sanzu lets out a snort and proceeds to kiss you again.
“Did that feel alright?” he mocks, smirk and snark crystal clear in his voice. “Of fucking course it did.”
To others, his response could’ve been entirely inappropriate. To you, however, it was hilarious. You crack up, letting out staccato huffs of laughter, and you feel the corners of your eyes crinkle up.
“Now you know how ridiculous you sound,” he says. Sanzu chuckles under his breath before setting your laptop on the night table and moving you over so that he’s now hovering over your body.
He asks, “What else are you worried about?” He’s still smirking, confident in his ability to rid you of your worries, and your self-esteem begins to return as well.
“I was just overthinking,” you admit. You gesture a little bit, trying to find the right words to explain, but you end up smiling sheepishly at Sanzu.
Sighing, he shakes his head and pinches at your cheeks. “Don’t.”
You laugh again and encircle your arms around his neck, pecking him to express your gratitude. But this time, his hand sneaks up your back and holds you at the base of your head. Unable to move, your eyes widen in surprise, and you release a cry that gets swallowed by his lips and tongue. Sanzu continues to steal your breath and voice, and when he releases you minutes later, you’re stunned silent.
You feel light-headed, and the burning in your cheeks and inner thighs is growing hotter with every passing second. Sanzu observes your flushed face for a second before he grins, diamonds creasing into dimples.
“Look at you,” he mutters, “all riled up.” He searches for your eyes until you two are looking at each other. “Let me eat you up, angel.”
Your breathy plea is all he needs before he pulls you in for another heated kiss.
–
Sanzu is greeted with a shrill whistle.
“Someone’s glowing today.”
Sanzu side-eyes Ran but continues his brisk walk to the conference room.
“So when did the two of you get together?” Ran probes with one eyebrow quirked. “She’s a really sweet girl. I hope you’re taking care of her.”
Sanzu grunts and opens the door. Most of the Bonten executives were in their assigned seats around a round table, save for him and Ran.
“Let’s start,” Takeomi says as he taps the spine of a binder twice on the table. A map is already projected onto a whiteboard, and certain regions are circled in red. “There have been a few fights in Kabukicho these past two weeks, and some club owners want us to increase security. I’ll designate oversight of this area to Rindou and Kakucho.”
“Why the two of us?” Kakucho asks.
“I’ll get to that in a second. First, look here.” Takeomi points at another red circle located near the Yokohama port. “Someone has been stealing our firearms before they get exported. There have already been two reports on separate occasions.”
Koko speaks up. “Have we recovered any of the stolen goods?”
Takeomi shakes his head and replies, “There’s a high probability that the culprit is stealing from us so they can increase their sales. We did manage to find out that this person escaped via car both times, and the vehicles they used were originally from the Kabukicho area.”
Mochizuki scoffs. “We can’t even catch a person who runs away with a shitty car.”
“That’s why I’m putting two people on the case. Rindou will watch over Kabukicho, while Kakucho monitors the roads that go into the district.”
“There’s no guarantee that they’ll go back to Kabukicho, though,” Kakucho says.
“Rindou, your main job is to find the stolen firearms. Track down any of the buyers and see if they have any information on the culprit. If you find anything interesting, tell Kakucho immediately.”
“I don’t see why we should waste our time on this,” Mochizuki argues. “There’s plenty of folks who would throw themselves at this job to get promoted in Bonten.”
Ran interjects here. “If I remember correctly, Mochizuki, you and your men are in charge of Yokohama, right?” Sanzu rolls his eyes, already foretelling how the rest of the meeting will unfold. “If I’m right, then isn’t this mess a result of your men’s incompetence?”
Mochizuki growls. “My men are perfectly capable.”
“So does that mean you’re taking responsibility for this problem? Are you admitting that you and your men have been careless?”
Mochizuki knocks over his chair as he shoots up from his seat. He is only stopped by Mikey’s raised hand.
Mochizuki mutters, “I apologize, Mikey.”
Mikey utters a singular command. “We will follow through with Takeomi’s preliminary plan. If it turns out that the culprit is not in the red light district anymore, then Kakucho should expand his search to nearby neighborhoods.”
Everyone nods, and Takeomi adjourns the meeting.
They file out of the conference room, leaving only Sanzu and Kakucho who holds him back.
“Sanzu, I can look over her while I’m in the area.”
“What are you talking about?”
“It’s not a good use of your time to be driving around Tokyo. You need to stay in Shibuya.
“Your partner lives near Kabukicho, right? Tell her to stay safe.”
Sanzu’s anger bursts. He grabs Kakucho by the collar and snarls, “Don’t tell me what to do. Everything’s going great in Shibuya, and she’s safe with me.” Kakucho stares back, and Sanzu stalks out of the room.
Sanzu’s frustration is interrupted when he feels his phone vibrate in his back pocket. He pulls it out and sees a text from you. It’s a picture of you and Chizu. You’re both sitting on top of a white canvas spread across your living room floor, and there’s clay splattered all over your clothes. Some of it has even gotten into your hair. A short moment later, you follow up with another photo of Chizu’s artwork and an attached message: “Art project failed successfully? Guess I’ll need to buy some more clothes, haha!”
Snorting under his breath, Sanzu replies: “Let’s go shopping next weekend.”
A few seconds later: “Sure! I want to check out that large department store close by.”
Sanzu smiles. “Sounds good. See you in a few, loser.” He pockets his phone before heading towards the garage.
–
When you mentioned “a large department store close by,” he didn’t think it would be one in Kabukicho. The smuggler still hasn’t been caught, and while Sanzu’s pretty sure no one would start a fight on Bonten territory out in broad daylight, he knows he has to be careful.
“Where’s the brat? Is she not coming with us?”
You roll your eyes at Sanzu before chirping happily, “Chizu’s having another sleepover! Same girl as last time. I think they’re becoming really good friends.”
The two of you continue to make small talk throughout the rest of the day. You meander around the mall, dropping into shops to replace the clothes you sacrificed for your daughter’s clay pot. Sanzu would follow you around but waits for you outside the stores instead. He isn’t interested in anything in the first place, but more importantly, it’s the only way he could keep watch. No one has updated him on the smuggler’s location either, so he’s erring on the side of caution.
“Sanzu, is something wrong?”
Your voice breaks his concentration. He was glowering at his phone, waiting for a text or a call or anything, and he didn't notice you come out.
“Just work. Do you have everything you need?” Sanzu says as he takes the shopping bag from your hands.
“I need to go to one more store, but that’ll be it.” Your boyfriend nods and gestures to you to lead the way.
You take an escalator up to the third floor. Sanzu looks around, observing the groups of people filtering in and out of shops, the music playing from speakers scattered across the hall, and signs that read “Exit closed” and “Caution.”
He glances back at you. You’ve entered a home furnishing store and are checking out kitchenware, arms folded and eyes squinted as you judge stainless steel. You find one that you seem to be considering, and he scoffs out a laugh when he sees you knocking the pan bottom and listening with your ear close to the handle. He feels a rush of adoration when he sees you find a set you’re satisfied with, and suddenly he wishes he had recorded the moment.
When you return, he brushes strands of hair away from your face before taking the new bag and adding it to the small collection strung on his arm. You furrow your brows, reaching out to grab the bag and maybe a few more back, but Sanzu promptly turns away and begins striding toward another store. You huff in protest, but the smile tugging at the corners of your lips gives away your gratitude.
“Is there any place you want to go to?” you ask.
He still hasn’t received any communication from Kakucho or Rindou, and he’s not sure if the lack thereof is a sign that the situation hasn’t escalated or that the two are so busy because the case is becoming more dire than they had expected. Regardless, Sanzu has learned to hone and trust in his instincts, and something in him is telling him that it’s time to leave. He cannot be out in the public eye for too long, anyway.
“No, I think it’s time we head back,” he replies. You hum in agreement, and the two of you walk towards the exit of the department, not without continuing to bicker over who should carry your shopping bags and discussing ideas for dinner.
When you enter the parking garage, though, it’s eerie. Too still for a department store that’s packed with people. Too quiet when the lot is parked to the brim. Only your talking about the bakery and how business is doing echoes throughout the garage, and Sanzu tries his best to find your car as soon as possible.
When he spots your compact, he tugs at your hand that he’s holding onto.
You pause from the abrupt gesture, but Sanzu looks back at you with urgency: Keep talking. You swallow with difficulty but resume. In fact, you don’t stop speaking until Sanzu starts backing out of the parking spot.
You look at the side view mirror to your right, and at first, you see nothing out of the ordinary. No men in suits or guns out in the open or anything. But then a flash of red catches your eye. You follow the beam until you reach a small red dot shining on the cover of your glovebox.
Your eyes widen, and you’re about to scream. Until Sanzu slides a hand over your leg and pinches.
“Don’t you fucking dare.” Through gritted teeth, Sanzu eases the car free and makes his way to the exit. The red dot disappears, but you’re not sure if it’s really gone.
Only after you leave the lot does Sanzu speak up again. “You’re going to need a new car.”
–
You feel your knees buckle at the sight of your home. The journey back took hours, with having to take several detours in case you were being followed, finding a replacement car for you, and reporting to Kakucho and Rindou.
Sanzu’s hands grip your underarms, supporting your entire weight and carrying you into your apartment.
You mutter apologies under your breath, and he grunts and huffs in response. He doesn’t let go until he heaves you onto your bed, and even with the support of your mattress, you feel like you’re about to keel over.
What… happened today?
Was I about to die?
I was going to die.
Sanzu just kneels in front of you. In the corner of your eye, you see his hand reach out and twitch, but it falls to his side in reluctance.
This silence would have persisted had it not been for Sanzu’s phone and its loud rings. He tugs it out of his pocket – a glance at the screen, and you see that it’s a call from Kakucho. Quietly, your lover pads out of your bedroom and into the kitchen to take a call.
“What is it?” Sanzu’s voice is rough, even slightly strained. You hear scratches and buzzes of noise, unable to discern what Kakucho is saying.
“For fuck’s sake, I already said we’re fine.” Pause. “I didn’t need your help. Hell, I think you should be more worried about Rindou because he can’t seem to fucking do his job.” More murmurs from Kakucho. Suddenly, a bang. “I have it under fucking control!”
Your body reacts, and you run to your door to see what the commotion is. Sanzu’s back faces you, and one of your dining chairs is on the floor. He’s cursing Kakucho out for both his meddling and incompetence, tugging at his hair and itching at the diamond scars at the corners of his mouth.
As you watch, the scene begins to fade away, as if the noise is being drowned out by water and the fluorescent brightness of the kitchen lights saturates your vision. Ironically, your body feels light and floaty, and you’re viewing everything from an omniscient point of view.
You’ve felt danger before. When your parents kicked you out, leaving you to fend for yourself. When your ex raised his hand at you – sometimes you can still remember the sting on your cheek. When you gave birth to Chizu – the anesthesia kicked in too late, and you really felt like dying then.
But… this?
Whenever you close your eyes, the image of that red dot plagues you. Unblinking, harsh, bloody. You’ll never forget it for the rest of your life.
And it wasn’t even pointed at Sanzu. Not that you would want your lover to be in danger, but it’s clear that your safety is now compromised. And if you become a target, they – whoever “they” is – would discover Chizu.
Oh, God, please not Chizu –
“Sorry for knocking down your chair.”
Sanzu’s voice brings you back to the present. Soul returning to your body, you try to remember how to look at him. It takes a while, but when you do, you struggle to discern the emotions in his eyes. Or rather, the lack of any such emotions. His blue eyes are darkened with nothingness, void of any warmth or life or happiness.
“There’s a lot we need to talk about,” he says. His tone is that of a businessman discussing logistics and contracts, devoid of any sympathy or concern, but the two of you are in your little, messy kitchen next to a faded wooden kitchen table and an excuse of a living room that is packed with Chizu’s crayons and drawing pad and the walls of an apartment that have only heard your cries at 3 AM because you’ve worked so goddamn hard to be happy and –
“Please not right now.” The words come out wobbly and weak, and a spark finally returns to Sanzu’s eyes. You’ve tried hard to wear indifference at all times, so you can’t imagine the expression you must have on your face.
Next thing you know, he’s carrying you back to your bed, closing your door with a push of his foot, and gently laying you down.
He whispers, “I’ll do anything to make it up to you. But right now, please just let me have you.”
You beg, “I need you.”
Sanzu kisses away at the pathetically large globs of tears that roll down your heated cheeks. He peels off your clothes before throwing them down onto the floor. He lets his hands wander and grab and knead at your skin, leaving bruising marks of pink and purple. He fills you up, and the room reverberates with his pants and your desperate pleas for more. And even when you finish, he keeps going, as if his desire could never be satiated, and you see flashes of white and red and nothing.
–
Sanzu can’t tear his eyes off of your sleeping form. Usually, he’d admire the damage he’d done to you and your body, but the dried crust and permanent frown on your face extinguish his pride.
He doesn’t know how to feel. He has a decisive character, yet even his strongest trait is failing him in this crucial moment. He doesn’t know how to proceed. There would be no right time to talk to you. There would never be a right time to see you so shell-shocked and crestfallen. There would never be a reason for Sanzu to hurt you.
He doesn’t have it under fucking control.
He manages to roll over onto his other side and is faced with your LED clock, the numbers indicating that it’s still early in the morning.
Time solves all eventually, right? But what would the solution look like in this case?
His gut drops. There is no other way to keep you and Chizu completely safe.
And suddenly, he’s feeling too much.
He cries and cries and cries. He’s sobbing while biting down on his chapped lips, which causes you to stir in your sleep, but you don’t wake. He hates showing weakness in front of others, but he bargains with himself to allow just this one time and brings you into his embrace.
In reality, though, once isn’t enough – he will never have enough of you. He wants all of your evenings, sunrises, homemade sugary desserts, breathless kisses, and gentle smiles. He wants to be there to accompany you on every grocery run and shopping trip because he knows you’re used to doing everything by yourself. After all, you’re busy with your new job, and he can spare an extra hour or two to help out – that’s what partnerships are, a give and take, back and forth. Besides, he’s promised Chizu he’d be there for her, so even if you didn’t want him anymore, he can’t go back on his word, right?
He sighs.
Who the fuck is he kidding?
Your relationship has never been a partnership. He’s always taking from you.
At first, you seemed so… immovable. So put together, he didn’t think you wanted another person in your life. But then you two naturally gravitated toward one another, and Chizu, being the loud mouth that she is, also held his heart hostage. He became a part of this little family, and for the first time, he wanted to be a more responsible person because you gave him reason to.
But it’s too late to change the worst parts of himself. Intentionally or not, he’s never been one to keep promises.
“Trust me,” he whispers into your temple, “I’d stay if I could. I really would.”
Sanzu knows he’s cursed to live a rotten life in the shadows. It’s probably some sort of karmic debt he’s accumulated from all the shit he’s done in his past lives, so as much as he loves you, he’s helpless to his fate. He can’t walk away from the ball and chain that is his past, and he’s too entrenched and entangled in the life he’s living now.
There is no other way.
He knows.
So he clasps your hands tightly one last time, praying to the heavens above for your and Chizu’s happiness and safety, before he prepares to leave.
–
The next morning, you notice that where Sanzu once was, sits a box with a note folded on top of it.
You already know.
Though you can’t help but still reach for the box, desperate for any trace of your lover.
Inside sits a thin wedding ring. There is no matching band.
I’ll always be yours.
You slip it on your fourth finger and admire it under the faint sunlight that streams into your room.
Maybe if you didn’t care so much.
Maybe if the two of you had met at another time or another place.
Maybe if you two were different people.
Maybe in another life.

Whatever You Need
Request: Jason helping reader through their period
Pairing: Jason Todd x afab!Reader
Summary: Your period takes you by surprise. Luckily, Jason's there to take care of you.
Word count: 1.6k
Sorry this took so long... I started four different Jason fics, which means none were finished. But they should be finished and posted sometime soon.
Sprawled on the couch in your pajamas, watching an episode of The Great British Bake-Off that you’ve seen at least twice before, you feel the first twinge of pain in your abdomen. You don’t think much of it at first, which is a mistake. There are still two days before your period is supposed to start, and you ate ice cream after dinner even though you’re lactose intolerant and ran out of Lact-Aid a couple days ago. You figure you’ll head to the bathroom to deal with the consequences of your actions if the need arises, but you’re too comfortable to move when the weighted blanket on top of you has a name and that name is Jason Todd.
You’ve been on bedrest (or couchrest) for the past week and a half after a bad fall in the rain during patrol twisted your ankle. It swelled to twice its normal size. The upside was that it happened during winter break so you didn’t have to make the choice between limping to class or skipping. The downside was that you wanted your superhero persona to have more of a presence with Gotham’s goons. As a part-time hero, unlike Jason and most of his family, you get much less respect when suited up than, say, the Red Hood.
As a contestant’s dough fails to rise and they begin to have a breakdown on the screen, your stomach cramps again.
Sometimes, if you ignore it, the pain will go away. You’re too comfortable to get up now.
To distract yourself, you run your fingers through Jason’s messy curls. He doesn’t have a wash routine, so they’re always frizzier than Dick’s, but you’ve never minded. He’s devastatingly handsome either way. At least like this he looks a little bit less like something come to life straight out of your fantasies. He’s just a little more real.
Jason hums sleepily and pushes his head into your hands, a bit like a cat nuzzling at you. It’s been a lazy day for you both. You’ve been in the same position on the couch for hours—you on your back, half-watching the show, half-dozing, and him on his stomach in the cradle of your legs, head pillowed on your stomach, not even pretending to watch the show, judging by his closed eyes.
Your stomach cramps again, and this time you feel it—the ache even lower, and a wet heat blooming between your thighs. “Oh, fuck me.”
Jason takes a minute to respond, still interested in your fingers that make his entire body tingle when you massage in just the right way. Then he cranes his neck up, brow furrowed and bottom lip jutting out with his confused frown. “Okay?” He starts to sit up, hands reaching for the hem of your shirt, but you draw your legs up and out from under him and roll off the couch.
“No, not literally,” you say through gritted teeth. “Fuck—did I stain the cushion?” It was no big loss—you’d found the couch on the side of the road and Jason helped you bring it up to your apartment and sanitize it—but a bloodstain would stand out on the light brown color.
“Oh,” he says with realization as you run to the bathroom and slam the door behind you. “The couch is good!” he calls.
Your pants aren’t. It looks like someone died between your legs. You’ve always had heavy periods, especially the first couple days, accompanied by strong cramps. If you get ahead of them and take pain meds, they’re not too bad. Sometimes you can even patrol. But playing catch-up with ibuprofen is a recipe for disaster.
The rest of the day is going to suck.
Because you always feel gross when you’re on your period, and because no amount of wipes would fully clean up the mess between your legs, you hop into the shower and turn up the heat until your skin is bright pink. Jason pops in for a second to drop off a change of underpants and sweats, then ducks out just as quickly.
Turning off the water starts the race against time. As quickly as you can, you apply your preferred hygiene product before any more blood can leak down your leg. Then you towel off and shrug on the new clothes. You still feel icky, but the new clothes and shower helped slightly.
Something sizzles in the kitchen when you open the bathroom door.
“Hey, honey,” says Jason without turning around, standing in front of the stove. He points at the table. “Meds and water are right there. How are you feeling?”
“Ugh,” is your response. You down the pills and almost set the glass back on the table, but at his insistent look, finish it off. Hydration helps with cramps as well.
“You’re two days early.”
“Well, I haven’t been patrolling. Exercise changes can throw my cycle out of whack.” You sniff. “What are you making? It smells good.”
“Chicken stir fry.” You peek into the pan and see broccoli, bell peppers, and a couple other vegetables frying with the chicken. The covered pan behind it, you know without looking, contains rice. “I also have ginger tea brewing.”
All of it, every part of the meal, is meant to help reduce your symptoms and pain.
You can’t help it. How is he always so thoughtful? You throw your arms around Jason’s middle and squeeze. So he can keep stirring the food, he shifts until you’re tucked beneath one arm. His hair is in complete disarray from your fingers like he just walked through a tornado. When he notices your gaze, red colors his cheeks and he flattens his hair down self-consciously.
You press a kiss to his shoulder, the highest place you can reach without stretching.
“Go sit down,” he pretends to scold.
In response, you lean into him, heavier and heavier, until he’s practically carrying you. Jason doesn’t even blink at the added weight.
“I plugged in your heating pad,” he says. “It’s right by the couch.” Another thing right next to the couch is a coffee table he stole from the manor when he was pissed at Bruce. On top of it is a bar of dark chocolate and a freshly-washed bowl of your favorite berries.
You kiss his shoulder again. Jason kisses the top of your head, then nudges you away with his chin. “Go. Sit down. Rest your ankle and your uterus.”
“That is not how it works,” you say, mirth in your voice.
“It’s how I think it works,” he mumbles.
When the food is done, he brings two bowls over. You lift your legs and he slips underneath them. He uses your shins on his thighs as a makeshift table, balancing the bowl between them, and absentmindedly rubs your weaker ankle with the hand not holding his spoon.
The two of you eat in comfortable silence as The Great British Bake-Off plays. You finish first, and as soon as he sets his bowl down, you sit up slightly and make grabby hands at him. “C’mere.”
Jason pretends to roll his eyes, but judging by the line of kisses he trails from your wrist to the inside of your elbow as he lies down, he doesn’t mind your bossiness too much.
You shiver at every brush of his lips against the sensitive skin of your forearm. It’s almost enough to distract you from the cramping that’s beginning in your abdomen again—a cramping that eases slightly when he’s atop you again, resting the gentle pressure of his weight on your stomach. Warm, fed, and with his weight on you, is it any wonder you fall asleep?
You’re only woken by Jason’s gentle hand shaking you, telling you that it’s been eight hours since you last applied your feminine hygiene product and you need to change it. You’re tired and sore and cranky, but as soon as you blink your eyes open he has pain medication and water for you to take.
You do so in the bathroom in a daze and tumble into your shared bed, tugging Jason in with you. He goes down easily, using his huge, warm form to surround you with his easy, comforting scent. You left the heating pad on the couch, but the thick arm Jason winds around your stomach does the job well enough, and you drift back to sleep quickly, never fully awake in the first place.
The next morning, you wake to an aching back and stained sheets.
You stare up at the ceiling and swear, which unfortunately wakes Jason, who lifts his head and stares at you, one eye still crusted with sleep. His curls are in wild disarray, one side flattened from the pillow and the other on end as if he’s been spending his spare time sticking forks in electrical sockets.
If the cramps have gotten to your spine already, then the next few days are going to be hell. And this was a nice pair of sheets! The blood had better wash out.
Jason grunts and lowers his head. “Everything we own is bloodstained, honey. Though usually it’s mine.”
You leave him in bed. Your hair feels way too greasy, and your skin feels tacky, and even after a half-hour shower, you still don’t feel great.
As soon as you step out of the bathroom, Jason is there with chocolate-chip pancakes he made himself, accompanied by a fresh bowl of fruit and more meds.
Emotion rises in your throat. You want to tell him so much, like that you love him even though you haven’t said it, or that you can’t fathom going through your period on your own anymore, but all that comes out is, “You’re perfect. You know that? You really don’t have to do all this—or stay home from patrol for me.”
Jason tousles his messy curls and shrugs. “Well, I’m gonna anyway. You need me, and I’m here for you. Whatever you need.”

Thinking about: Meet cute with single parent L.SM
💭Who: Lee Seokmin (Seventeen) x reader 💭What: Fluff. Single parent Seokmin. 💭Word count: 2k 💭Warnings: None! 💭Summary: “ You’re out shopping at your local mall when an adorable child literally runs into you and leads to meeting their adorable dad. ”
Masterlist
A/N- I left the child gender neutral because I honestly couldn’t decide if I should make them a boy or girl so intended to go back and adjust once decided, but then I just got used to writing they/them/their so now you can imagine Seokmin’s child however you like! Also didn’t name them for the same reason
Extra special tag for my darling @tusswrites just to torment her 💗 luv u bby 😘
The pat-pat-pat of little shoes across vinyl floor meets your ears a second before there is a collision against your legs. It’s only a small one and luckily only causes minimal stumbling before you right yourself enough to turn and look down at where a fluffy little something is on the floor by your feet.
Slowly, the fluffy brown tilts back until big eyes peer up at you a little confusedly as a tiny hand pushes the hood back to allow the small child to eye the very thing they had run into.
“Oh, hello,” you greet softly, not wanting to scare the child.
They just blink up at you silently so you peer around in search of sign of an adult looking distressed, yet you can’t see one. You see plenty of adults wandering from store to store and even other children yet none of them seem to be searching for a lost little lion.
After a final glance around, you shuffle back slightly to give you more room to crouch down to be closer to eye level with the child who is still just staring at you silently. “Hello little lion, I think you might have wandered away from your adult, huh?”
“I lion, roar!” The child exclaims as if reminded of their outfit as they hold up both hands into claws and bare their teeth in an utterly adorable way. It doesn’t help that their oversized hood drops back down over their face, obscuring all but half of their tiny, bared teeth and chin.
“Wow! That’s a big roar,” you comment and lower to sit on your butt with your legs crossed. The child grins proudly at you and pushes their hood up again, then entirely back to rest at the back of their neck and reveal two tiny, low messy buns tied with cute little rainbow ribbons printed with rabbits. “I like your ribbons.”
“Bunnies!” The child exclaims and jumps up to start bouncing, making you giggle.
This child is adorable. And perhaps a little too comfortable with strangers so you’re very glad they ran into you and not someone who wouldn’t be a decent human being.
“You’re very good at bunny hopping,” you compliment. The child hops closer to you and wiggles their nose like a rabbit, making you laugh again. “Ah, you’re so cute.”
“I cutest, daddy say I am.”
“I think your daddy might be right. Are you here with him today?” The child nods in confirmation. “Do you remember which store you were in with your daddy?”
“Uhm,” they turn around to look at the surroundings and frown puzzled. “Where daddy?”
“I don’t know sweetheart, that’s what I’m hoping you can tell me. Was daddy looking at something to buy when you saw him last?”
“Daddy buyed more undiewear. His have lotsa holes!”
“Buying more underwear definitely sounds like a good idea in that case,” you agree and get up to offer your hand. “How about we go to that bench, and you can stand on it to look out for daddy and tell me if you see him, yeah?”
The child nods and takes your hand into their small one to happily skip alongside you over to the bench in the centre of the open space of the mall between stores, where you lift them up to let them stand on the seat, even if they’re still nowhere near tall enough to see over all of the heads.
“What was your daddy wearing today, do you remember?” You prompt after standing quietly for a few moments, with a hand on the child’s back securely so they don’t fall while they peer around curiously.
“Uhm daddy and uncle wear same!”
“Your uncle is here too?” The child nods. “Okay and what are they wearing?”
“Uhm…like you!” They poke your black faux-leather jacket at your shoulder.
“Ah, I see.” You look aside and immediately spot at least one person wearing a black leather jacket yet none of them seem to be focused on anything other than their phones or the next store, so you’re certain they can’t be this child’s dad or uncle.
“I hungry,” the child declares suddenly a minute later, making you look at them to find a precious little pout and puppy dog eyes already locked on you. “I hungry.”
“I’m not your parent or trusted adult, you shouldn’t ask others for food,” you reply, making their pout grow bigger. “I’m sure your daddy and uncle will get you something to eat soon.”
“Now?”
“No sweetheart, not now. We need to reunite you first.”
“I hungry now.”
Instead of answering, you sigh a little and turn in hopes of finding their adults. To your relief, you spot a man rushing out of a clothing store a little down the way wearing a black leather jacket and looking frazzled.
“Is that your daddy or uncle?” You ask, pointing over so the child looks and starts to bounce excitedly on the bench, so you quickly wind your arm around them in fear of them falling or getting their foot caught between the slats somehow.
“Daddy!” That’s all the confirmation you need to scoop the child up to hold securely on your hip and start towards the man who is rushing along peering into stores as he passes and asking every other person over his lost child, but he hasn’t spotted you approaching yet. “Daddy!”
That makes him look over and his fear immediately washes away for relief to take over his features. He runs over and happily takes his child from your arms to hold close and press kisses to their hair. “Where did you go, monkey? I was so scared I lost you forever! Never do that again, okay?”
“Sorry daddy, I lost,” the child apologises while hugging their dad tightly and tucking their face up close to his neck while you watch on just glad that this turned out well and doesn’t need to be escalated to security or the police in order to reunite the father child duo.
“I don’t care what anyone says, I’m getting you a leash,” he mutters against his child’s head, and then finally seems to fully register your presence. “Oh, uhm hi, sorry uh, thank you for looking after my child and I won’t really get a leash, I know those are for dogs…or cats…or ferrets…or-”
“I get it,” you assure with a soft laugh, cutting off his nervous rambling. “I think they’re called reins when it’s for kids.”
“Yes! That’s the word I actually meant, thanks.” He chuckles and adjusts his child on his hip before offering his free hand to you. “I’m Lee Seokmin.” You take his hand to shake politely and give your name in return. “Are you busy? I’d really like to buy you a coffee or lunch or something in thanks for reuniting me with my little monkey.”
“I hungry!” The child declares, suddenly upright and on full alert again at the mention of food. “Hungry daddy. We eat with uncle and my friend?”
“Oh, you’re friends now, huh?” Seokmin teases and nudges his child’s nose with his own playfully, making the child giggle.
“Best friends!”
“Aw, what?” He pouts at them and suddenly you see exactly where the child gets the puppy dog eyes from. “I thought I’m your best friend, monkey.”
“Both,” the child reasons simply, making you both laugh a little.
“I can handle that, can you?” Seokmin grins at you. “Sharing the best friend title with me?”
“I think I can handle that,” you agree, making him smile brighter.
“So, lunch?”
“Will your brother be okay with that?” You wonder.
“Brother?”
“Yes, uncle?”
“Oh, he’s not my brother, he’s one of my closest friends. He won’t mind at all, right, monkey? Uncle Wonwoo won’t mind our new friend joining for lunch, right?”
“All be friends,” the child answers.
“Exactly, we can all be friends,” Seokmin agrees in a serious tone despite his amused smile. “So, want to come make friends with a little monkey, their dad and his slightly socially awkward friend?”
“Sounds-” you start to respond but the child interrupts with a huff.
“I lion, daddy,” they correct in a tone that sounds as if it’s not the first time they’ve had to remind him of this very serious fact.
“Oh right, right, lion, sorry little kitten.”
“Cub,” you correct, earning a flat look from Seokmin that you only giggle at.
His face lifts into a softer kind of smile and his head tilts a little as he now takes the chance to look at you properly; your smile, your eyes, your figure from head to toe, but he really does seem mostly focused and entranced by your smile.
“Hey!” The call of a deep, male voice makes Seokmin, and his child look over, so you do too and find another man donning a black leather jacket jogging over. He glances between you and Seokmin curiously before smiling at the child and taking them from their dad’s arms when they hold out their arms while leaning over. “Hey cub, where’d you go huh?” His voice turns so much softer now that he’s talking to the child, so adoring and utterly precious. It softens his whole somewhat intimidating presence in a way you can’t blame him for at all.
This child truly is heart-meltingly sweet.
“Made friend, uncle Wonwon.”
“Ah, you made a friend?” The man looks at you curiously and offers a little, polite smile before turning his attention back to the child to lean in closer and talk between them quietly.
“So, you didn’t get to answer about lunch,” Seokmin reminds, drawing your attention back to him. He has a hopeful smile lifting his lips and a nervousness in his eyes that he can’t quite hide.
The more time you spend around this man and witness his expressions, the more you see who his child takes after. You really don’t need to meet the mother to know that this child is almost Seokmin’s twin in tiny form.
“I wouldn’t want to intrude, I’m just glad to see you reunited and such a sweet child back in loving arms.”
“Your arms seem pretty loving,” he comments without thought, then immediately blushes, and flails a little. “I didn’t mean anything by that! Well I did but not like that! Not-not in a hitting on you way! Not that I think that’s a very good way to flirt; I may be out of practise the past few years but even I know that’s a bad line!”
Once again, you find yourself giggling softly. “It’s okay, I understand. Save the flirting for after lunch,” you joke and try not to turn shy at your own brave flirtation.
“Oh!” Seokmin’s expression turns oddly blank for a moment, except for his wide, shocked eyes on you. You almost start to apologise and retract your words, yet his cheeks lift high as he breaks out into a bright, beautiful smile. “You’re right, flirting should never be done on an empty stomach!” He declares and motions vaguely behind him. “So let’s go get lunch and move onto dessert, huh?” He wiggles his eyebrows at you comically, making you laugh before he joins in.
The four of you turn and head off to find somewhere to get lunch. You catch the uncle leaning over to whisper to Seokmin teasingly; asking if he and the child should leave you and Seokmin alone to flirt in peace, making Seokmin blush and shove his friend gently, not willing to risk his friend dropping his daughter by pushing any harder.
Seokmin glances at you shyly and offers an embarrassed little grin when he realises that you heard the other man’s comment.
“Maybe next time,” you bravely suggest, making Seokmin’s nerves melt away as he grins and nods in agreement.
You really don’t know what the future holds for you and Seokmin. Maybe it won’t go anywhere past today, or maybe it’ll be a long future with his precious little child growing up feeling love from the both of you, perhaps with siblings following along. There’s no knowing how it will go, but you sure are excited to find out.
Don’t forget to reblog if you liked to help spread the story and let others read it too! And don't be shy to leave comments or send an ask so I can see your thoughts 🥺 💖

Past Lives pt. 1
Wednesday x witch!reader
"I've got this strangest feeling."
"This isn't our first time around."
Summary: Wednesday transfers to Nevermore Academy and is your new roommate
a/n: I have decided that for a majority of the spells I'm just gonna take them from Harry Potter because I have a majority of those spells memorized lol (less work for me)

I'm sat at my desk, studying a book about healing charms, while Enid is pacing back and forth through the center of the room.
My dorm room was interesting. It is shaped like a short T, the entrance being where the lines cross. Each section has a big circular window that opens to a patio.
My section, the section in the middle, is decorated with fake vines and string lights. My night stand has a lantern on it next to my phone charger.
Enid's section matches her personality, bright and cheerful. She has tinted film over her window that illuminates her already colorful room.
The center of the room has a circular sunroof which Enid also managed to get the tint on.
"Enid, you're gonna burn a hole in the floor if you keep pacing like that." I say without lifting my eyes away from the book.
"You heard what they say about her!" She stops pacing, looking at me with worry written on her face. "I really don't want to die in this school."
I look up from my book, making eye contact with Enid. "I don't think Principal Weems would allow a murderer into the school."
I stand to go comfort Enid, interrupted by the sound of people talking behind our dorm room door.
As if they were waiting for the perfect moment to enter the room, the door opens, revealing a gothic family and Principal Weems. A girl with black hair braided on both sides of her head down past her shoulders stands between what you assume are her parents.
That must be our new roommate.
Enid turns around with a smile plastered on her face while you stand there idly.
Enid approaches Wednesday with new found excitement over the fact of getting a new roommate.
"Howdy roomie!" Enid exclaims, Wednesday stunned by her energy.
"Wednesday, this is Enid Sinclair." Principal Weems gestures her hand towards Enid before moving it to you. "And this is Y/n Y/l/n."
I stand where I am awkwardly, raising my hand in a wave.
Wednesday's eyesight lingers on me a little too long before she's interrupted.
"Are you okay? you look a little, pale." Enid says, her face shifting from excitement to worry.
"Wednesday always looks half dead." The man I assume to be Wednesday's dad answers for her.
Enid let's out a noise of acknowledgement.
"Welcome to Ophelia Hall!" Enid announces before opening her arms to embrace Wednesday.
Wednesday takes a step back to avoid her touch.
"Not a hugger, got it."
"Wednesday is allergic to color." The tall woman with dark hair says, her voice naturally seductive.
I watch on, fidgeting with my feet. I assume it's exaggeration.
"Oh gosh, what happens to you?"
"I break out into hives and then the flesh peels off my bones." She has a very monotone voice, it's suits her dark aesthetic.
"Luckily, we've special ordered you a uniform." My eyes slightly widen, focusing on Weems. She was serious?
I feel Wednesday's eyes on me for a moment. Did I do something?
"Enid, Y/n, take Wednesday to the registers office to pick it up along with a copy of her schedule." Principal Weems says while looking at both of us. "And give her a tour along the way."
Wednesday turns around, scowling at her parents before leaving the room. Enid skips, following Wednesday while I take a quick couple of steps to catch up.

"Nevermore was founded in 1791 to educate people like us. Outcasts, freaks, monsters. Fill in your favorite marginalized group here."
I'm following along while Enid carries the tour, descending down a staircase.
"You can save the sanitized sales pitch, I don't plan on staying here long."
Enid stops walking, causing Wednesday to stop and turn to her. "Why not?"
"This was my parents idea." Wednesday looks towards a trophy case as she stares at an old picture of the fencing team.
"Oh look, there's my mother smirking at me. They've been looking for any excuse to send me here. Its all apart of their nefarious yet completely obvious plan."
"What plan?" Enid says with a smirk, trying to pry out any information she can out of her new roommate.
Wednesday's eyes break from the trophy case to meet Enid's. "To turn me into a version of themselves."
"How would that turn you into a version of them? everyone's high school experience is different." I say, instantly regret sets in as I meet Wednesday's intimidating stare.
Enid elbows me, coughing to interrupt the awkward lul in the conversation. My face flushed with embarrassment.
"Perhaps you could clear something up." Enid says while she continues the tour. I'm just happy the attention is off me again.
"Rumor's been swirling around that you killed a student at your old school, and your parents pulled strings to get you off." Enid looks at me for a moment before meeting Wednesdays gaze again.
Wednesday starts to walk past both of us. "Actually it was two kids but who's counting?" Enid and I stop simultaneously, looking at each with wide eyes before we catch up to Wednesday.
We walk through some double doors to an open area. "Welcome to the Quad." Enid states putting her arms out to the side.
"It's a pentagon." Wednesday states flatly. Enid and I share a glance for a moment.
Xavier and I meet eye contact as he beckons me with his hand. We've been friends for awhile, first bonding over silly conversation and his art after being assigned together for a group project.
"I'll be right back guys." I say before walking around on the cobblestone path, eventually meeting up to Xavier who is painting something on the wall.
"You looked like you were suffering, so I thought I'd drag you away for a second." Xavier smirks before continuing his painting.
"Wow you're such a life safer, my knight in shining armor." I say teasingly, putting the back of my hand on my forehead to act faint.
He has a slight smile at my performance before looking back to Wednesday.
"She's gorgeous." He says before meeting my eyes again.
"I know right!" I was about to push him, but I didn't want to mess up his painting.
Something Xavier and I bonded over was both of us finding woman attractive. Like we would both agree, or argue, about celebrities and how pretty some of them are.
I see Ajax talking to Enid. "I should probably get back before Wednesday hates me and, I don't know, kills me in my sleep or something."
"Good luck." Xavier says, still distracted by his painting.
"Thanks, I hope I don't need it." I say before making my way back to Enid and Wednesday.
"I find social media to be a soul-sucking void of meaningless affirmation." Is the last thing I hear Wednesday say, making eye contact with me as I finally catch back up. She turns around and walks away.
"Was I gone for too long?" Enid turns to look at me before shaking her head and walking away.

The sun has set past the horizon, It's just Wednesday and I in the dorm. Wednesday just finished unpacking.
Enid is in Yoko's dorm, doing whatever they do.
Wednesday looks up from the center of the room, staring at the tinted sunroof.
I see Wednesday with her head angled upwards, contemplating her options.
"Do you want help?" I ask, standing from my desk.
Wednesday lowers her eyes to me. "No, I can do just fine on my own."
I watch Wednesday scheme a few seconds longer until I pull out my wand.
I point it towards the sun roof, The sound of film being taking off glass filling the dorm as one of the tints slips off and falls gently towards my wand.
"You're a witch." Wednesday says bluntly.
I keep taking the tint off the different sections of the sun roof.
"Yeah, luckily. I've always really enjoyed magic so if you need something that can be solved with a spell just let me know." I give Wednesday a patient smile, she has a look on her face like she's considering what I said.
Enid opens the door, seeing the scene and proceeding to stomp into to the center of the dorm.
"What did you do to my room!"
We turn our attention to Enid, annoyance in her eyes.
"Enid, she has an aller-"
"Making myself comfortable." I was cut off by Wednesday.
I instantly see where this is going. deciding to not be in the crossfire, I decide to be in the safety of my section of the room.
I open my book back to where I left off studying with the sound of Wednesday and Enid bickering as my white noise.
Soon Enid starts blasting music.
"Turn it off." I hear Wednesday approaching the center of the room, her boots stomping on the floor. I can no longer focus on reading so I watch instead.
Enid shakes her head while dancing.
"This is your final warning." I grab my wand out of fear for my roommate, I keep it concealed unless needed.
"Rah!" Enid holds her hands up to Wednesday's face, claws extended from her fingernails.
"Don't mess with me! This kitty has claws and I'm not afraid to use them."
The door to the dorm suddenly opens, our carnivorous plants teacher and dorm mom, Marilyn Thornhill, on the other side carrying a black flower.
"Sorry for the interruption." Marilyn notices the tint all over the floor and the energy between Enid and Wednesday.
"Is this a bad time?" I go back to reading, every student has gone through this. I didn't need to live it again.

I'm walking back from the bathroom to head back to class when I notice Wednesday walking by, there is a cut on her forehead.
"Hey Wednesday, heading to the nurses office?"
"Are you a mind reader as well?" Wednesday asks with what I assume is her version of sarcasm.
"Want me to heal it for you? your forehead I mean."
Wednesday stands there quietly, deciding her options.
"I'm not gonna make you owe me or anything I just, I don't know, I like helping." I look into Wednesday's eyes, she glances to the side before making her final decision.
"Okay, only if you don't demand anything in return." I smile towards Wednesday while pulling out my wand.
"Of course not."
I point my wand towards the nic on Wednesday's forehead.
"Episkey."
The wound on Wednesday's forehead closes itself, the blood leaving with it.
Wednesday is quiet for a moment.
"Thank you." Wednesday says in a slightly different tone than usual.
I hide the slight shock on my face. I never expected to hear her say words of gratitude, especially to me, her roommate.
"It's not a problem, honest. Do you want me to show you to where the nurses office is just in case I'm not there next time?" I smirk as Wednesday nods.
Wednesday tries to feel where the cut was on her forehead before we hear a scrapping sound from above.
A gargoyle is falling off the roof. It's spinning forwards, flipping over.
I take a step back, pointing my wand up.
"Reducto!"
There's a flash of light from my wand, the projectile hitting the falling gargoyle. The statue turning to dust before falling onto Wednesday.
When I look back down to see Wednesday, Xavier is behind her.
"Wednesday get down!" He shouts, tackling her to the ground. I take a big step back to avoid the tackle.
I look to make sure they're both okay.
Wednesday is unconscious.
Xavier looks up to me. "Cast a spell or something to heal her!"
"What? I just started learning healing charms there is no way I'm experienced enough to mess with head injuries."
I go to pick up Wednesday. "I'll take her to the nurses office."
I'm about to start walking until Xavier takes her out of my hands.
"I'm the one that tackled her, I'll take her."
I'm left standing there, grasping my wand in both of my hands as Xavier leaves before I can argue back.
