And so Law works at this hospital and then one day he’s telling Ace about this really annoying patient who won’t stop talking and keeps asking for meat for some reason!! Ace just sort of watches him rant about it with a grin cuz he knows who Law’s annoying patient is and then one day Ace goes with Luffy to his doctor’s appointment and when Law walks in the room and sees them, his face is like “???”. Then Ace is like “Hey Law” and then Luffy’s like “OMG ACE YOU KNOW TORAO???!!” And Law’s just like “what the fuck.”

"Clanker business, I suppose." Deryn tried to keep the anger out of her voice. "I saw him with Mr. Tesla this morning, in a meeting with the officers. All very hush-hush."

"But we haven't seen him in days! Did you two have a fight?"

"Get stuffed!"

"I knew it!" Newkirk said. "He's been hiding from us, and you're as grumpy as a bag of wet cats! What in blazes happened?"

"Nothing! It's just that, now that everyone knows he's a prince, he's too important to hang about with us middies."

"That's not what Dr. Barlow thinks." Newkirk stared down at his food. "She asked me if you two had been fighting."

Deryn let out a groan. If the lady boffin was ordering Newkirk to spy for her, she had to be barking curious. And for a sticky-beak like Dr. Barlow, there wasn't much distance between curiosity and suspicion.

"It's none of her business!"

"Aye, nor mine, but you have to admit it's a bit odd. After you two got back from Istanbul, you seemed as close as..." Newkirk frowned.

"As a prince and a commoner," Deryn said. "And now that he has Mr. Tesla to scheme with, he's got no more use for me."

"That's Clankers for you," Newkirk said. "I suppose."

I can't cut parts of this one out OR trim it down in a cohesive way. So we'll just put all my points for this conversation in one post instead of splitting it up.

1a. We're about to extrapolate a LOT from this conversation, so bear with me, but to start: I think Newkirk likes Alek tagging along with the middies. For starters, Alek being around means that Newkirk is compared to someone besides Deryn, who's the best to ever do it. Plus, given how much the middies jostle and tease each other, it's nice to have someone that will jump in for the assist when he makes fun of Deryn a little bit (or to step in if Deryn's gone too far with a joke).

1b. It's also interesting that Newkirk doesn't believe that Alek got too high-and-mighty to hang out with them anymore. Again, I think Alek is bad at first impressions but good at winning people over, and they'd been spending enough time together for Newkirk to know that he wasn't really that stuck up. Another point for Newkirk likes having Alek around.

2. Again, props on the line delivery-- Alan Cumming sounds exactly like someone trying not to sound mad when they are very very very pissed

3. These bastards were NOT subtle. If Newkirk knows, the whole ship knows. And I bet they've taken sides.

4. Also, it takes a LOT for Dr. Barlow to ask Newkirk for help. She thinks he's completely incompetent. (And, as far as spying goes, he folded right away and told Dylan that she'd been asking about him, without even being prompted. Terrible spy craft). You know she was losing her mind, trying to figure out what exactly went wrong.

5. "You seemed as close as..." as close as WHAT. I think Newkirk is the first person to imply in this book that maaaaaaaaaaybe there's something going on there, even if he doesn't know himself. (He might. I like to think that Newkirk isn't stupid, he knows what's up, he just chronically avoids drama wherever he can)

6. Again, at the end of it, I really don't think Newkirk believes Deryn about Alek's behavior. It's like when your friend tells you a story about how this person pissed them off but you, as a third-party observer, can see it actually wasn't that bad but to point it out right now would also upset your friend, so you just kinda nod along.

L: Me (June 16, 23) - - R: Sahar Kazes, IFBB. Since I was a teenager, I've had 3 or 4 goals that haven't changed with the years ... One of those goals, is to ... Yep, to become a musclebro. Or a gymbro. Or whatever people call them now - - I mean, my brother used to be a personal trainer back then, and I loved seeing him getting massive, and all the good vibes and positivity he used to exude. Then, he left the fitness world because of, well... Things unrelated to what I wanna say. I tried the musclebro thing back then, but my brother never understood I was just a newbie with a lot of stuff and problems on his mind... So, everytime I went to his gym, I ended up sore for two weeks!. So, long story short... I avoided training with him like if my life depended on it! ... and ironically, didn't have a lot of motivation or self esteem to go anywhere else to workout. My cousin followed my brother steps though, and he is right now what I still want to be. A biker musclebro. We don't talk a lot, but I feel happy for him. Genuinely happy.

But, anyway... The thing is, I've kinda hated when people have told me silly things (and this is an understatement!) for talking about this goal. Not a surprise that many people assume that: Bodybuilding/Going to a gym/Getting muscled = Becoming arrogant, dumb, or an obnoxious man... Sure, some dudes who go to the gym are that way, and some like to be that way but because (according to my own theory) they already were that way! Besides, there's always SOMETHING to learn about this world: Either a new routine, or a diet, or how your muscles work, or which workout will help you with which muscle, or the chemical components of what you eat daily, how to do a correct meal prep, supplements... Even those who use roids have to learn A MASSIVE TON of stuff. I remember my brother used to train a couple dudes when they were getting ready for a competition, and, maaaaan... Tons and tons of information.

Started going approximately a year ago, and, well... My diet is not the best one... Yet. But I like the testosterone rush I feel everyday after a good workout... And I don't consider myself a brainless, dumb dude... Nor planning/thinking about going that way.

...Honestly, F those who disencourage YOU from doing what you'd love. Get your gymspiration (or whatever inspiration you need to do good things) anywhere you need it!

And, yes. Getting big, hairy (test, minox... you name it), a couple tats, a sweet bike when cash allows it... BEING HAPPY WITH THE WAY I LOOK... I mean... Why not? I love that idea. Maybe I fell in love with the action stereotype from the 80s (yep, 80s/90s kid… Former trust fund kid anyway but that's a VERY different story mwhahahahaha), and, seeing that, and my brother, made me love it until today. I still want that!. The roid thing... I'm not exactly partial to it for myself. If it makes your boat float, go for it dude! In my case... Well, MAAAAAAAAAAYBE if I were a pro bodybuilder, an IFBB one, maybe/whoknows/i'dtryit/whatever... I'm not condoning its use, though! But, my motto is never say never!

For me, well, right now, seeing those giants at my current gym is a MAJOR inspiration. Can't talk to them or befriend them because, well... Issues to make friends, can't/don't know how to... (Thanks high school, you damaged me so much my ability to make friends got ruined forever).

Anyway... Just wanted to talk a bit about it.

Thess vs Holiday Prep

Well. Today was ... a mess.

As previously stated, we are in something of a distaster with the workload. Because apparently people being gone for several weeks at a time (it's, what, over a month now?) does not call for getting a temp because "Maaaaaaaaaaybe they'll be back next week".

(Side note: honestly, this really is down to Temp and Other Part-Timer having poor communication skills. I was in regular contact with the office when I was on long-term sick getting my fibromyalgia diagnosis, just to keep them in the loop. Temp, meanwhile, leaves it until two days after the date her doctor's note says she can return to work to say, "Actually, that's not happening". This is, frankly, ludicrous on all counts and we still have no idea when she's going to be back.)

Anyway. First thing was, of course, the regular day job. I did, however, stand up on one very basic point - a request that someone please for the love of fuck take that seventeen-minute Monstrosity so I don't have to. I mean, honestly, it was for the best. My left hand - the one that got caught in a door, y'know - was already sore as fuck just on Annoyances. A Monstrosity would have killed me. And I literally said that. My exact words were, "I know everyone leaves the longer ones for me and I usually don't complain, but I got my hand caught in a door over the weekend (nothing broken, just very bruised) and a macro that long will cause me problems, especially with [Breast Guy]'s macros". Looked back and it was gone. I'd bet good money that Scruffman did it himself, since he probably wasn't going to ask Goblin to do it. I think he looked at my email, went, "I have people out sick and [Thess] is working with a bruised hand on top of that chronic pain thing, so I am going to agree to this pretty reasonable request without a fucking word, at least in part because I will need [Thess] on overtime as much as possible since she's* the only one who will actually do any and I can't afford to cripple her right now. Two days without [Thess] in the office was bad enough".

(* - side note: I am not out at the office. Look at the country in which I live, and the government policy on trans folks over here, for the answer as to why.)

Had to step out - on Christmas Eve, no less - for a couple of last-minute things I couldn't carry on my last shops trip. Mostly bleach, toilet paper, a couple of nibbleables, and something I could reasonably stuff into my face with minimal effort. Thankfully that wasn't a huge deal - honestly, Tesco's yesterday was worse.

But after that I had to come home and do overtime. We're only barely below 500 cases, partly because we had the usual folks in - and one lady in particular throwing urgent cases in the queue until, like, 6pm. I literally yelled, "IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE; GO HOME!" Two and a half hours of overtime, nightmare.

After that and a bath to try to soak some of the aches out, it was time to meet another of my obligations. Specifically ... I do dessert for Christmas dinner at the parentals' house. Started as a tradition last year because it's easier for me to make a dessert that I can eat. Thankfully I wasn't baking anything, exactly - just slightly destroying the kitchen with a mint chocolate cheesecake. The "licking the spoon" test says I did good, anyway. But after all that, we were approaching midnight and I hadn't even had dinner yet. That was my "I'm going to make a nice Christmas Eve dinner for myself" out the window; I just made something simple. But it did mean I ate a proper meal.

After that, wrapping the Christmas gifts for the parentals. Thankfully the Christmas snack hamper for my stepfather was easy to handle; just arrange everything nicely in a gift bag (though I have to remember to take his brie out of the fridge when I take out my cheesecake). Mum ... three small things - two for Christmas, one for her birthday, which happens on the 19th. Managed well enough, despite being obscenely tired by then. Did the cards, packed everything I will need (except for the refrigerated stuff) and set it by the door for easy pick-up tomorrow.

After that, I could finally relax ... in juuuuuuust enough time for it to be "nearly time for bed". AAAAAAAAA!

The theme park itself wouldn't be a draw for me to spend so much money getting there, etc. If there were a big planned fandom meetup, I'd maaaaaaaaaaybe maybe consider if I had more money and vacation status. Though, the active fandom personnel has changed enough since I started httyd-ing ten years ago I don't think I'd know anyone were such a hypothetical event to happen.
