senior year

August 14, 2018

Hayden groaned rubbing her eyes as her alarm went off, she had barely slept at all through night. She hasn’t been sleeping very well since her parents death and sleeping next to one of the boys help a bit but she slept completely alone last night especially as Archie was also not sleeping with her but with Luke.

Hayden knew that it was her first day of senior year but it felt wrong knowing she wouldn’t wake up and her parents aren’t here to see her or make her favorite breakfast. She wouldn’t hear her mother’s laughter before she goes to school or get a warm hug from her father.

She just shut off her alarm and all the ones after it and pulled the blanket over her head.

Ellen frowned as she heard Luke and Jack moving around their rooms but nothing from Hayden which was odd as she is always up before the boys. She knew today is going to be extra hard on Hayden.

Ellen decided to go up to Hayden’s room to see why she isn’t up yet. She opened the door to Hayden’s room and saw her completely under her blankets, “Hay?“ Ellen softly asked as she walked over to the bed not getting anything back from Hayden.

“You have to get up soon.” Ellen softly told Hayden as they would need to leave soon.

Hayden just shook her head under the blanket.

“Hay it’s your first day, you have to get up.” Ellen softly reminded her but Hayden didn’t move.

Ellen let out a small sigh and stood up walking out of the room sure how to get Hayden out of bed.

She knew Quinn was starting his first day today but also knew his class wasn’t until later and she called hoping he could come over and help her hopefully her Hayden out of bed and to school.

Ellen walked down the rest of the stairs and finished making breakfast waiting until Quinn got her.

Quinn walked in twenty minutes later and hugged her really quickly before he jogged up the stairs and headed up to Hayden’s room.

Quinn walked into her room and sat on the bed next to her, “Hi Haydes.” Quinn softly spoke to her making her peak out from under her blanket seeing Quinn sitting right there.

“Quinn.” Hayden mumbled and sat up and immediately leaned on Quinn wrapping her arms around him tightly. She really needed a Quinn hug.

“Hi.” Quinn smiled softly rubbing her back, “I heard you don’t want to get up for school.” Quinn spoke to her softly. Hayden shook her head no.

Quinn just hummed, “Why is that?” Quinn asked her even if he knew why.

“They’re not here.” Hayden mumbled blinking to stop herself from crying, again.

Quinn frowned, “I know.” He understood it was hard for her, he knew it was hard for him too today for his first day of collage knowing they weren’t there to see him off like they are every year.

“You know they would want you to go.” Quinn reminded her softly, he knew how proud Harrison and Maddison always are of Hayden.

“I know.” Hayden mumbled reluctantly agreeing, she just wanted her parents here.

“It’s okay to want them here but they wouldn’t want you to stop your life because of them.” Quinn very gently reminder her, knowing she needed to hear it.

Hayden swallowed and slowly nodded.

“Okay. Why don’t you get dressed okay?” Quinn asked her gently.

Hayden nodded and took a breath and sat back up letting go of Quinn giving him a shaky smile before she got off her bed and headed to her bathroom getting ready for the day.

Hayden came back out in a pair of jeans shorts, a green surf shirt and a pair of white high top converses and she left her hair down for once.

Quinn gave her a reassuring smile and wrapped an arm around her shoulder as they walked out of her room and down the kitchen where Jack and Luke were eating their breakfast.

Jack and Luke both looked up seeing Quinn and they got up giving him quick hugs and they shared a relieved look seeing Hayden up as their mom told them she was having a hard morning.

Ellen let out a sigh of relief seeing Hayden walking into the kitchen and gave a thankful look to her eldest son.

Hayden chewed a few bites of toast and stayed pretty silent as she listened to Jack and Luke yap to Quinn.

Ellen smiled seeing Jack and Luke talking a bit more than they have the last few months and hoped that their family was slowly healing, not saying they don’t still miss Harrison and Maddison like crazy but they couldn’t live in sadness all day forever.

Archie came trotting over to Hayden and rested his head on her leap, Hayden gave him some head scratches as she tried to finish her piece of toast.

“Okay you three let me get your photo and than you guys have got to go.” Ellen came back into the kitchen to tell them.

Hayden nodded and stood up with Jack and Luke. The three all grabbed their backpacks. Hayden’s was all light blue with a little croissant keychain that Matt had got her for her Christmas.

They all walked out side and Hayden stood between Jack and Luke and they smiled at the camera that Ellen was holding.

Ellen told Quinn to stand next to Jack for a picture as well.

Quinn hugged Hayden tightly rubbing her back softly, “You are going to do great okay.” Quinn whispered reassuringly to her.

Hayden nodded softly and gave him a quirk of her lips before she walked down the front steps and got in the car. Jack was in the drivers seat already and Luke in the backseat.

Hayden looked out the window the entire time as Jack drove them to school. She was a bit nervous to see her best friends again as she had completely ghosted them since her parents death and she did not know how they are going to react.

Jack parked the car and shut it off and they all got out of the car.

Luke looked over at Hayden not wanting to leave her, Hayden nodded at him reassuringly and ruffled his curls. Luke nodded and waved at the two as he walked away and to his class.

Hayden took a deep breath and stood close to Jack as they walked into school and to their lockers. She clenched her jaw trying to ignore the stares and whispers she is getting, she has always been stared at because of her father but now it’s because her parents are dead.

Hayden bit her lip seeing all of her boys waiting at her and Jack’s lockers.

“They aren’t mad.” Jack quietly whispered reassuring her noticing her nervously look when she saw their friends. Hayden nodded and they walked the rest of the way to their friend.

Cole’s head snapped up seeing the two walking to them, “H!” Cole perked up seeing up. Cole’s word got the attention of the rest of the boys.

“Hi.” Hayden mumbled her eyes flickering nervously at the boys.

Cole didn’t waste a second and lunged forward pulling her into a tight hug. Hayden froze for a second before letting out a sigh of relief and hugging him back.

“I want to hug her too!” Trevor dramatically whined and pushed Cole away and pulled Hayden into a tight hug rocking her back and forth.

“Let me hug her.” Alex grumbled making Trevor slowly release her reluctantly and Alex immediately pulled her into a tight hug.

Hayden hugged both of them just as tightly back.

Matt patiently waited until the other three were done and he pulled Hayden into a soft and comforting hug. He gently rubbed her shoulder and felt her let out a sigh.

Hayden felt the rest of the tension bleed from her shoulders as she hugged Matt softly back.

She pulled back from the hug and looked at her friends, “I’m sorry.” She mumbled to the four, feeling terrible how she had shut them out for months.

“You have nothing to be sorry for.” Matt gently reassured her keeping an arm over her shoulder, he gave her a soft glance and smile.

“We understand.” Cole gave her a comforting smile, none of them were ever mad at her.

Trevor nodded quickly sending her a smile and Alex gave her grin.

Hayden let out a relieved sigh and nodded at her best friends.

Sleepless Nights ( S.R )

summary: Reid and Y/N aren’t the most fond of each other. So what happens when they can’t sleep, have to share a bed, and be married.

a/n: AHH okay so here it is! It’s my first au so it’s probably not the best. But big thanks to @anepiphany! Ani baby none of this would be happening without you! Thank you for you tips and making me not go insane! Also pls tell me if I slept something wrong cuz like, your girl not the best when it comes to it. Also there will def be a loophole somewhere in my case and if you find one, just let it slide because life is filled with loopholes ❤️ also this is gonna be a two parter!

You were always the type of person that got along with everyone. And by everyone you meant everyone. You were a people pleaser, always changing your personality for someone. To the security guard, you were a sports junkie, always catching the latest games. To the guy who worked at the bookshop, you were the classical girl. And to the barista, you were the girl who was always late but always paid 3 dollars extra tip. But Dr. Spencer Reid was the only exception. 6’1 and standing tall. Mr. Eidetic Memory and 187 IQ but oh God how you cared for him. You loved him, you loved him more than all the moons in the galaxy. But him? He hated you, so naturally, you hated him too. As the saying goes, if you can't beat them, join them.

“Guys we got a new case,” Garcia says.

You walked into the room and sat to the seat closest to the front where Garcia would be since she was your best friend. Ironically that was the seat farthest from Reid.

“Okay, so this is Mira Normen and her husband John Normen. They had gotten married 2 months prior to their deaths. Mira was 25 years old and she was a teacher at the local middle school. John was 26 and he ran a local pet grooming business. As you can see, but not me for obvious reasons, they were both stabbed once in their chest and then once in their thigh. Mira was shot once in the heart and once in the head and John was shot twice in the heart and twice in the throat. The M.E. found a ring stuffed into both of their throats. And not the cheap kind, I mean a year's worth of salary for one of us.”

“Okay, so this guy’s rich,” You said.

“Yeah, no shit sherlock,” Reid said.

“Guys,” Hotch said in a stern voice “Garcia do we know anything else?”

“Yes actually. They were both last spotted at an event for rich people. So like something Rossi would go to.” She said, chuckling at the last part.

“You and I both know very well that I do not go to those kinds of events. I stay at home for god sakes.” Rossi says causing you and a couple of other people to chuckle.

“Why does this case sound so familiar?” JJ asks, breaking the chuckles.

“Well there was a case exactly like this a couple of years back if my memory is correct, which it always is. We tried to solve it but we just couldn't so it ended up as a cold case.” Reid said.

“And everythings the same?” JJ asked.

“Yep, everything. Well except the city.” Reid said.

“Great, well i think we got everything. Wheels up in 30.” Hotch says while getting up.

You sat alone, like always. At first everyone was concerned, like they had done something, but they then soon realized that you just liked to be alone and this was really the only time.

“Okay, so I checked if anyone had moved in the years and I have 5 names. Thomas Maddison, Stephanie June, Eliza Honeycutt, Devi Paradise, and Klaus Hiller. And only one moved to our little town and that would be Miss Eliza Honeycutt.” Garcia said.

“Can you ch-” Morgan was saying but got cut off when she said

“Already did ‘Hot Chocolate’. Miss Eliza moved a total of 3 months after the case. Looks like it was due to a messy divorce. Her and Mr. Maddison had not been going strong for the last couple of months and it looks like they decided to call quits just before you guys came to town.”

“Can you-” Morgan started to say but then was again cut off by Garcia.

“Already got you babes. The address should be sent to your tablets.” Everyone was still looking at her, “that means look at your tablets.” She says while gesturing her hands making them look down.

“We got it babygirl,” Morgan said without being interrupted.

“Great! Now, this is the time I leave and let you amazing little people do your jobs!” And with that, she was out and so were you.

It was 10 pm when you got to the hotel. You weren't exhausted but you definitely were not in the mood to solve a murder or multiple in this case. You all had checked in now was your favorite time of all choosing rooms. You never bunked with anyone unless Garcia, but that's if she ever came on a case. Emily and JJ were already gone, same with Hotch and Rossi. You were about to grab the key for the single room but Morgan got it before you.

“Sorry hot stuff, I need room alone this time.”

“What!? Why!?”

“I don't need to explain myself to you Y/N,” Moran says, and just like that he was gone.

You and Reid grabbed the keys without looking at each other and walked in the elevator. You both did not make any eye contact until you got into the room. There was only one bed. You immediately called room service but they said that there were no more rooms available so you two were stuck with that one.

“Okay, which one of us is gonna sleep on the floor?” you heard Reid say.

“Excuse me,?”

“You heard me.”

“Oh stop being such a baby Reid. We both know that if you don't sleep on a bed or something remotely similar you get all grumpy and get headaches all day. And if I don't sleep on a bed or something similar I get high on caffeine and get paranoid. So for the sake of the team, we are gonna sleep on the goddamn bed together!”

He didn't know you paid attention to him like that. Sure everyone knew that he would get grumpy, but headaches? No one, not even JJ. He didn't like to tell people about them fearing of being babied around even more than he already is. Although he did know that whenever you don't get enough sleep not only do you high on caffeine, but you have nightmares. You never told anyone except Garcia of course. He’d realized that you had nightmares after a group holiday to Rossi’s beach house, he heard you talking in your sleep and there were not good things being said.

“Okay geez fine whatever. Are you gonna go shower first, or am I”

“Me obviously,” you say while getting your clothes.

The water was hot when you got in, just how you like it. You started to soak your hair in the water needing to cool down a little and prepare yourself for the days ahead of you. All you could think about was sharing the same bed with him. With the guy, you're in love with but doesn’t know. And will never know.

After 30 minutes you got out of the shower and changed. You wore a pair of shorts and a loose flowy t-shirt which you had knotted after putting it on because it was too big. After you brushed your teeth, did your skincare, and brushed your hair.

“Finally, how long does it take?” You heard Reid say while you were walking out of the bathroom. He didn't look up until you sat on the bed turning the tv on.

“It takes 40 minutes Reid, it always takes 40 minutes. But you would never know because you've never had a girl stay over,”

“Oh, you're so funny aren't you,” he says in an annoyed way.

“Yeah, I am.” You said smirking while looking up expecting to see him annoyed but instead greeted with a small smile which was then washed away quickly by the sound of his voice.

“Okay, I'm gonna go take a shower now. Don't wait up.”

“ I won't, don't worry.” You say while he goes into the bathroom. You swear you saw him smile. It may have been small but it was there.

“You waited for me.” You hear while turning off the tv. He was wearing a pair of basketball shorts and a white t-shirt. His hair was an absolute mess, and you could tell that he had to take a shower in not the hottest water.

“Ha, yeah no. You took like 10 minutes, did you think I was gonna fall asleep in 10 minutes.”

“Yeah well, that's what happens when you take up most of the hot water.”

“I'm sorry, you should have gone in the shower first.”

“You wanted to go into the shower first!”

“Okay and? Look, can we just go to bed or something? We have a long ass day ahead of us.”

You felt the bed dip and got chills all over. He didn't seem to notice, thankfully. You were cold, but not cold enough to want to layer up. You looked over and the time and it read 11:15. You tried to sleep, but you just couldn't. So again you looked over and read 11:39, and then it was 12:06. You felt like you were going insane.

“Why are you still up?” Reid said in a raspy voice while turning over to face you.

“Huh? Oh, um, I couldn't, can't sleep.”

“Ugh, fine come here.”

“What?” Before you could say anything he had wrapped his arm around you and forced you to nuzzle up against his chest. It actually felt pretty nice. You felt like you were on top of the world and that everything was going to be okay. You put your arm on him after processing what was happening. He then pulled you in closer and when you looked up at him you realized that he was knocked out, gone like a light in one of those horror movies. And before you realized it you were out too.

“Y/L/N wake up,” is all you hear. The sun was barely out yet, so naturally, you just wanted to go back asleep.

“5 more minutes”

“Fine.” Although he didn't want to say anything or admit in this case. This was the best sleep that he’d gotten in a while. At first, he thought it was because of the way he slept but he then quickly realized that it was because of you. With your legs intertwined with his, one of your arms on his chest and the other in his hand. Your hair, so messy, yet so perfect at the same time and he would give anything to fall back asleep with you. He was in love. He was in love and was falling, falling harder than ever.

“Y/N, come on it's been 10 minutes. We need to go, get up.”

“What? Oh. Wait, fuck, what time is it?” You say in your very raspy yet airy morning voice.

“6:13, now we have to get ready or we will be late.”

You didn't want to get up, you really didn't. You wanted this moment to never end, but sadly time was not on your side for this one. “We never speak of last night, got it.”

“Yes ma’am.”

“Its agent.”

“Miss Honeycutt, hi I’m Agent Y/L/N,” You say while sitting down for the interrogation.

“Hi yeah, why am I here?”

“Oh, no one’s told you yet?’

“Well yes the people who rudely (italicize) came into my home said something but I wasn’t really listening.”

“Oh okay then. You're here as a suspect for multiple murders.” Her face was in total and utter shock. “There has been a murder recently that connects to a murder that took place back a couple of years ago. You lived there when it had happened and then you moved. And now you’re here because a murder played out exactly that same way as the one that took place in the past.”

“Look, I have a valid reason for moving-”

“Divorce I know.”

“Yes, well you don’t know the reason.”

“Oh, and what would that be?”

“I was cheating on him, Thomas. He found out and then immediately filed for divorce.”

“Huh, is that so. Well, you kno-” You were cut off by the sound of the one and the only doctor himself.

“Y/L/N can I please speak to you.”

“Um yeah.” You walk outside of the interrogation room to face him. “What is it?”

“I don't think she did it. The way she’s reacting to all of this is way too natural to fake and she still hasn't called for a lawyer to be present. Normally in these types of situations the un-sub mostly always calls for a lawyer or anyone in that case.”

“I know, I know, I know. But she mentioned an ex-husband that could help us with this case.”

“So what you're just gonna “interrogate” her until she starts to talk about her former husband, or just talk about that and only that as a whole?”

“Yes, precisely.”

“You amaze me Y/N,” this was the first time he said your name in conversation naturally and not because he was forced to for an undercover assignment and shit. Well except for this morning but you can't decide if that was a small little fever dream or actual life so it doesn't count.

“And I you Spencer.” He noticed, oh he noticed and his heart practically burst from his chest because of the serotonin he got when you said his name. It was like every time you said his name an angel got its wings.

“Hey Garcia, could you dig a little deeper on our little Thomas Maddison?” You ask her.

“Of course pumpkin. Okay so here's what I got. Thomas Maddison born May 30th leaving him to be a Gemini and you know how I feel about those. He moved from our fun little town too, well, um,-” was what she said before being cut off by Emily.

“What do you mean by ‘um’ Garcia?” She said with a puzzled expression.

“Well, ‘um’ means he disappeared from the face of Earth. Completely gone. No new dental records, no new home, I mean, not even a simple receipt. It’s like he just clicked ‘erase all’ after the divorce.”

“Is that even possible?” I ask.

“Well yes, but you have to literally become a new person for that to happen.”

“Garcia look into anything in his life that could possibly lead him to have hundreds of thousands of dollars,” Reid said.

“Okay, so it says here in one article that he owned a local jewelry store that got burned down around that time of the divorce. The local paper wrote it off as an accident but everyone thought he wanted to skip town after the divorce so he would just take all of the insurance money. Which I guess is kind of true. Um but anyway, yeah that’s really the only explanation. His parents didn't leave him that much money in the will, and he wasn't a drug dealer.”

“Okay, thanks hun! You've been of more help then you know. Call Hotch and everyone else in. I think we got the profile.” You said before ending the call.

* literally 5 or 6 minutes later *

“Okay, so the guy we’re looking for is very popular with the people. He always tries to make everything about himself. Your classic narcissist.” Hotch starts off with.

“This guy hates love though. He never brings up the topic and hates it when people bring it up. And although he hates love, he looks like the guy who could pick anyone he wanted, although he relatively picks on younger women.” JJ adds.

“Yes, and this guy is going to be a white caucasian male. Most likely in his late 20 or early 30s. And he is going to have wealth and will show it off as often as he can.” Emily says.

“Any questions” you heard Hotch ask.

“There’s an event tomorrow just like the one that Mira and John attended. Will he be there? And if so, do you think he will attack again? And if yes then what will do?” You see an officer asking.

“Well yes, we heard of that and already planned everything out. Tomorrow night Agent Y/L/N and DR.Reid will be attending the event.” Rossi said.

You were in complete shock, and frankly so was Reid. You guys never agreed to this, and as much as I love black tie events, they aren't really my cup of tea when there can possibly be a serial killer there. Not to mention the guy I fucking love more than anyone in the world would be there, with me (italicize). Like now I have to look badass and sexy (italicize) at the same time, although that wouldn't be that hard you thought to yourself.

“Guys, can Reid and I please talk to you all in private.” You give Rossi and Hotch very unobvious yet obvious death stares.

“Yeah, now please.” He says.

* again like 2 or 3 minutes later *

“Um hello, last time I never agreed to this and by the look on Reid’s face, neither did he.”

“Y/N you heard, our unsub likes younger women,” Derek says,

“Okay well then just send in Emily, or JJ, or both in that case.” You say in an angry tone.

“Oh baby, you think we're young? Were flattered but no. Sadly out of all of us, you look the youngest, and are the youngest.” JJ says while laughing along with Emily.

“And for you Reid, you out of most people should know that the murders happened between young lovers who got married. And Derek doesn’t call you pretty boy for nothing. Rossi says following JJs statement.

“We really aren't getting out of this one huh?” He asks.

“No. Now it's late so I want you all to get a good night's rest and be ready tomorrow. Reid and Y/L/N you guys can sleep in a little but you'll have to be ready by 4:30.” Hotch says. And with that, everyone goes back to their rooms.

Chapter Nine

*Fake It Until You Make It Real*

"Hey quick question." Louis pressed his phone between his shoulder blades and ear as he helped Freddie into a coat on the chilly Tuesday morning.

"What is it?" Louis asked.

"Can I have Freddie today?" Louis momentarily froze in his everyday routine of pulling Freddie's zipper up when he heard the question.

"What?"

"Can I have Freddie today? I thought I'd take him on a Harry and Freddie date."

"I don't think a Harry and Freddie date classifies as a good reason to skip Nursery." Louis said though he was smiling when Freddie looked up at him excitedly.

"Sure, it does. Besides I'm already outside with a brand new spiderman booster in my backseat."

"I have a booster for him I could have moved."

"We'll need an extra booster anyway and i got a backless booster for your car incase Maddie needs it. She's sort of in the middle but I always make her sit in the backless still whenever I have her in my car. Nice to have extras when we have more than one vehicle. So, can I? I'm already parked outside." Louis laughed as he opened the apartment door and stepped out. He locked it before grabbing Freddie's hand and heading to the elevator.

"I'll have to ask Freddie if he wants to go with you. Who knows maybe he thinks you're too lame."

"Please Papa please!" Freddie begged making him and Harry laugh.

"I'm getting into the elevator see you in a moment." Louis ended the phone call as he stepped on the elevator. Once they reached the main floor they headed outside, and Freddie ran to the familiar Murano where Harry was leaning against it.

"There's my favorite little man!" Harry cheered picking Freddie up and spinning them around making Freddie laugh, "so do you want to spend the day with me Freddie?"

"Yes yes yes! Pease Papa." Freddie begged widening his eyes and pouring his bottom lip.

"Yeah alright." Louis said smiling when Freddie and Harry cheered

"Would you like ride to work?" Harry asked setting Freddie down.

Louis wasn't his mother, he obviously had money and had savings despite what his apartment building said about him. He obviously spent every reasonable pound on Freddie and clearly grew up in a household where he learned to budget like Harry did. Even if his time learning wasn't as needed as Louis' was. He hoped he could make their lives easier and better, he hoped this would last, that he and Louis were able to make it all work and by the time January comes they can say their vows and mean at least some of it. Harry looked over at Freddie as he bounced his bottom on the mattresses with the elderly salesman grinning and encouraging him to jump harder. Hello 🥰, I love this wip so much ❤️, can you write a small description about the heroes and villains , their personalities and little information about them ,who are the ros ? I am dying to know more about them.

Ahh!! Thank you!! Once the base of chapter 1 is fully done I’ll also go back and add in some better/ actual character descriptions both in Chapter one and in the stats information gathered pages.

As a side note some of these things (at least personality-wise) may change as I write and develop the characters which is why for some of them I’m going to wait to fully describe because they either show up in later chapters or at least will be better described in later chapters (I also need a bit of a base to figure out what the MC might know and what they might not know.)

Heroes:

The Blue Monarch- A short older woman of an undetermined race, you can almost feel the right word on the tip of your tongue but then it slips away like a soft breeze. She’s typically adorned in a blue outfit that speaks of royalty and demands attention. Her powers have been reported as the ability to subtly influence people around her and is typically stronger against people who are baseline(people who don’t have the powered gene). She’s in charge of leading the younger, more rowdy heroes in order to whip them into shape. She tends to play off an over caring attitude that actually sets most people on edge around her. Why she does what she does and what she plans to accomplish is currently a mystery for the MC.

Ethereal (Corwin Tate)- romance option. He is a Black male who typically wears a dark purple bodysuit and black cape. His powers seem to the MC to be energy or light based and can change color, though he seems incredibly fond of the color Lavender. He’s best described as a ‘true hero’, he cares about others, especially if he can see people trying to better themselves. He’s, in the past, tried to help Villains reform but at the present time has stopped and become more unsure because of Biohazard’s attack. His personality has been described as charming and a bit too idealistic and trusting.

Nightbolt (Jace Blaese), Absolute Zero (Megan Wilson), and Quiet- These characters will be met later. Jace(nonbinary) and Megan are both romance options.

Villains:

Megahertz (Valen)- romance option. She’s a Black and Latino woman. Her suit is a mix of actual armor and cloth, her helmet, as far as the MC has seen, is a mirror that reflects the world around her. She’s dependable, fearless, and during downtimes is easygoing. (There will be some more information about her and the Mc’s relationship and past in chapter 2)

Unending (Maddison Carter)- romance option. He’s a mixed-race man, typically seen in suits. His power is said to be that he’s immortal but others say it’s something much darker. He’s been nothing but a rumor for the last 6 years and it’s been said he was a hero until something went very wrong between him and the other heroes in his city. He went on a mass killing spree under the guise of vengeance before slinking into the shadows where he became a rumor and crime lord. No one was aware that he was in Torrent City at the time of the Biohazard event. His personality comes off as conceited, confident and ruthless to those who are unfamiliar with him.

Infection- They are a romance option and will be met in chapter 2

Baseline characters:

These three are the extra three characters/romances that may or may not show up: Yasmina, Cam (genderfluid), and Leo.

Sunburst, Nightshade, Biohazard, and Damian were all temporary characters. Though there will be some more info on Biohazard for villain mc’s in the next update.

“I hope you didn’t spend a lot of money Liz.”, I warn her. She turns around and hands me an envelope. “I didn’t have to.”, she smirks. I gave her a look that said really? I open the envelope and inside was what seemed to be a ticket. I take it out and read it:

Stark Wildlife Preservation charity event Friday, 28th Bronx Zoo @ 7pm

My eyes widen,”How did you get this?!” On the outside I looked shocked-well because I am- but on the inside I was panicking. This charity is my other birthday present from my dad. He knows how much I love animals. So technically it’s my charity event. How does Liz get a ticket for it!? More importantly, how am I gonna explain that I was already going without telling her the truth. I refuse to lie to her or MJ. I may be keeping my father’s name a secret but I have never lied about anything I have said about him.

“My friend Peter Parker has an internship with Tony Stark so he has access to go to events like this. He was able to ask Mr. Stark for tickets for us to go.” Odd? Dad never mentioned an internship program otherwise I would have joined to spend more time with him. I’ll have to ask him about it later.

“Us?”, was all I could get out at the moment.

“Yeah. Me you MJ and Peter’s best friend Ned. Oh and his aunt May, she’s chaperoning.” Oh god, I think I’m going to pass out. “Liz, this is amazing but I can’t accept this.” I am freaking out right now. I put the ticket back in the envelope and try to give it back to her but she refuses to take it. “You can and you will, Y/n. I know how much you love and care about animals. This is a charity for them and to top it off it’s being held at the Bronx Zoo.”

I look at the envelope. I am again reminded the kind of friend she is. Like MJ, she actually pays attention to me and doesn’t just brush me off. Her doing this for me reminds me that she cares about me. They both do.

I look at Liz and give her the biggest smile ever, “This has to be the best gift you could ever give me. Thank you.” I give her another hug then put the envelope in my messenger bag then put it next to hers. “Now. How bout we paint this huge-ass banner?” I needed a distraction right now. Well actually I need a plan. I have to talk to dad and figure this out. The idea of telling MJ and Liz so soon makes me wanna throw up. What if they don’t want to be friends with me anymore? Then I’ll truly be alone. To me, that’s worse than death. Ugh I need to get out of my own mind.

“Hey Liz, since those two guys you mentioned are also gonna be at the charity; why don’t you invite them to come to my house tonight? I mean only if they would want to, that way I can meet them beforehand.”

Liz giggles, “I’m pretty sure you’ve seen Peter and Ned around school before. They’re on the decathlon team, but yeah I can talk to them and see if they want to come.” “Cool”

We both finished the banner then headed out of the school walking separate ways. On my way home I decided to stop by my favorite bakery and get a donut-which was free because it was my birthday-to eat later. Putting my headphones on, I tune out the loud people and car horns. I wish I knew that that was gonna be a bad idea.

Today was a slow day. One car thief, a cat stuck in a tree...twice, and old lady asking for directions, and one attempted mugging. I’m currently sitting on the edge of a building eating my sandwich from earlier and switching out my web fluid. Because I am still in the open, I have my mask half up so I can eat. Once I was done and refilled my web shooters, my phone started ringing. The caller id said Liz Toomes. I answered it. “Hey Liz”

“Hey Peter, are you busy tonight?”

“Uh not particularly. Why?” This is weird. Liz never calls me.

“Well first off I wanna say thank you for the extra ticket for the charity. She loved it” She? I thought Liz was bringing a boyfriend. “Secondly, if your not too busy she having a small birthday celebration at her house and she invited you and Ned.” I was a little taken back. Me and Ned were being invited to hang out? “Uh sure sounds like fun. I’ll talk to Ned.”

“Oh I already called him, he said he’s coming and said I quote, ‘Tell Peter that if he doesn’t he’ll regret it.’ But I’ll text you the address. See ya.” I’d regret it? What was Ned talking about? Oh shit. I forgot to ask who was ‘she’. Oh well I guess I’ll find out when I go. My phone buzzed indicating I got a message. It was Liz and she sent a time and the address. Before I could think any farther, I heard yelling.

“Please! Help! Some one stop him!”

I pull my mask down and jump off the edge swinging toward the distress. It was a girl running after a guy who seems to be hold a bag which is probably hers. As she was gaining on him-wow she’s fast-I swing lower and just when I was gonna shoot a web at the thief, he fell over dropping the bag. Oh. Well that was easier than I anticipated. Swinging down, I landed next to the thief who was….convulsing? Like he had been shocked.

I look down at the bag. It had an embroidery patches of Stark Industries, the Avengers symbol and symbols that represented each Avenger. Next to the bag, stuff seemed to have fallen out. An envelope with the words ‘Happy Birthday’ written on it, a phone and a big book with ‘Stephen King IT’ sprawled on the cover. Could it be? No. This is just a coincidence. In the short time it took me to put the items back in the bag, I heard a voice and I froze.

“Better late than never huh Spider-Man!”

That voice, I’ve heard it before. My head snaps in the direction of the voice. Holy fuck! If I could shit a brick right now, I would. “Y/n!”, I whisper-yelled. She was the one who was getting robbed. She was now walking instead of running- there was no point of the guy was down. Even though she was catching her breath, having just sprinted to try to catch this guy, she still looked beautiful. Hair now in a ponytail though some strands had fallen due to her running, headphones resting on her neck, glasses falling ever so slowly from the thin layer of sweat that had formed. Still beautiful. Oh god she’s coming closer.

“Now’s your chance. Tell her how you feel, Peter.”, Karen tells me. “Not now Karen.”, I whisper back. I put her bag down so I can tie the thief up. As I was about to touch him, Y/n shouts, “No! Don’t touch him!” She lightly jogs over and bends down next to the guy. Her eyes scan the ground around us like she’s looking for something.

“I wouldn’t touch him, unless you wanna get shocked too. It should wear off soon though. Oh, there it is.”, she says a she picks up a small pendant that look familiar-but I can’t put my finger on it. Come on Parker, you can do this. Be cool.

There was no way I was gonna let my bag get stolen, so of course I ran after him. I shouted for someone to stop him but no one helped. This city is so fucked up. But then I remembered what my father gave me for situations like this. Or other situations should it ever happen. So I ran harder so I could get closer. And once I was I took the pendant from my necklace-which was designed to look like the arc reactor-pressed the center of it and threw it at the thief. It landed on his back and I watched as he fell over, convulsing. I stopped running-because there was no need to anymore-and tried to steady my breathing.

As I walked towards the paralyzed guy, a blur of red was seen swinging in the corner of my eye. Spider-Man. Though I’ve never meet him, I know that my dad recruited him during the time of the Accords but I don’t think he’s considered an official Avenger...yet. I watched as he swung and landed next to the thief. Seeing that his job was already done for him, he bent down and put things in my bag. I guess my stuff fell out.

“Better late than never huh Spider-Man!”, I shouted at him. He looked up in my direction. Of course I can't see his expression but I seemed like the white eyes of his mask widened. Like he was surprised. He left my bag on the floor and stepped closer to the stunned man. When I saw him reach out to the guy, I immediately yell to him. “No! Don’t touch him!”

Spider-Man stops and watches me jog to him and the man on the ground. Once I get there, I search for the pendant while telling Spider-Man why he shouldn’t touch him. After I find the pendant, I hear him speak for the first time. “What is that?”, Spider-Man asks and sounding genuinely curious. I stand up to show him it.

“An invention my father made. When activated it sends a wave of electricity through whatever its attaches to. Example being this guy, resulting in convulsion, temporary paralysis, and eventually he’ll pass out. Once the device releases the shock, it detaches itself and can't be used again.” I’m always proud of dads work.

“Wow. Your father must be a genius to be able to come up with this. It’s so small yet packs a punch.”

I look up at him-he’s only a few inches taller than me- smirking and laugh, “You have no idea.” If only he knew.

We looked at each other for a moment. I wonder what he looks like? Maybe he’s cute. He sounds like a nerd-considering how interested he was about the device.

“Uh well uh it seems like you didn’t even need my help.”, He laughs almost nervously referring to the passed out guy.

“And what if I actually did need your help and you didn't show up? What then Spider-Man? I would have lost my birthday presents.”, I smirk, crossing my arms then placing my hands on my hips. I couldn’t help but be a little sassy.

“It’s your birthday?” Oh fuck.

Realizing my mistake, I lowered my head, “I’m sorry. You weren’t supposed to know that.” Your so smart Y/n.

He bent down beside him, picked up my bag from the ground and handed it to me, “Well, happy birthday uh....”

As I took my bag, our hands brushed against each other. I looked up at him again. Did he feel that tingle? Probably not. I decided to ignore it and gave him a small smile, “Y/n and thank you Spider-Man.”

“Your welcome Y/n.”, he continues to look at me. God I wish I could see the expression on his face. “Well uh I should uh probably take this guy to the police station.”

“Oh yeah right. And I should really get home before my mother files a missing persons report.”, I joke as I place my bag on my shoulder. Spider-Man laughed then pointed at my bag, “Cool patches by the way.”

I just smile at him, “See you around Spider-Man.” I turn around and begin to walk away. Not even a few steps away I hear him speak.

“Stay outta trouble”, he says.

I turn around, walking backwards, “And what if trouble finds me?”

“Then I’ll find you.”

Whoa I was not expecting that answer. His response caused me to blush hard, hoping that I was far enough that he couldn’t tell.

Oh my god. Do I have a crush on Spider-Man?!

"No no no no no... Seb!" Maddie gasps as she rushes out of her room, making Chris' head snap up from the book he's reading.

"He's not here. Maddie, what's wrong?" he asks, a worried frown spreading across his face as he tosses his book to the side and goes over to her.

"I... I um... I" she stammers, looking at him with panic all over her face.

"Mads, take a breath" he tells her, gently rubbing her upper arms as she takes gaspy breaths, trying to calm herself.

"That's it" he whispers, copying her breathing as it slowly begins evening out to long, deep inhales and exhales.

"What happened?" he asks, still worried. He’s never seen her panicked like this before.

"I... st stood on them... br broken" she tells him, her hands shaking as much as her voice as she holds up her headphones, one of the ear caps dangling by a single cable.

"It's OK" he says softly, taking them from her and setting them on the counter.

"Need them" she whispers as tears start to well in her eyes.

Her headphones a safety blanket, one she's not been without since Seb gave them to her almost a year ago.

"Maddie, it's ok, you're ok. Accidents happen. We'll get you a new pair" Chris says quietly, gently wiping away the tears that have slipped out of her eyes.

"New pair" she mumbles as she nods, a tiny smile spreading across her face before snuggling into his chest, letting out a content hum as he starts rubbing her back.

After a few minutes he slowly guides her over to the couch and gets her settled, covering her with her favourite blanket before getting comfortable beside her.

"Do you want to look some now?" he asks, motioning to his laptop on the coffee table.

"Yes please" she whispers with a nod. He can’t help but smile as he leans forwards and gets his laptop. She’s always so polite, even with the littlest of things.

“Do you remember what model they are?” he asks her as he pulls up the Bose website. She nods and carefully scans the page before pointing to a pair.

“I like the blue ones” she says quietly, snugging into his side.

“Blue it is” he says, adding them to the cart, followed by a black pair for himself before checking out.

“How much?” she asks, looking up at him. He smiles and shakes his head.

“My treat” he tells her as he sets his laptop on the couch next to him.

"Thank you" she whispers, closing her eyes and letting out a quiet sigh.

"You're welcome beautiful" he says, kissing the top of her head.

I had a long day and now Grae is gone. I’m honestly crying. Jay asked if I was okay and the river of tears just started flowing. I truly cannot believe that our plan worked but it did and my splitting headache is totally worth it. OK last night's tribal was wiiiiiiild af. I think the funniest part is that this all started with me planting a seed. I told Amy L that she is at the bottom of their alliance and that I was open to working with her to get Maddison out. She spilled all the tea about Maddison having two idols and that she's been wanting to gether out for a while bc she says the same thing to everyone lmao. I think the thing that pissed Amy off is that she told her "I feel closest to you" anyway, Amy didn't respond to me immediately so I thought she wasn't on board at first so I told Cody I'd work with him and that I have the idol from Alan. Ffs. Wrong move. Cody just trust other people wit information and it's really annoying. While I love Sarah, I can't really trust her bc she's really close to Ben and Aimee - who I do not trust. Well, Aimee I am not sure about. I guess I only don't trust her because of her close Ness to Ben and Ben blatantly lies. Anyway. So Amy told me that their alliance is still trying to vote Pedro which is perfect for us coz we can still stay Hanúha strong. So at this point I realise I wouldn't have to play my super idol and Cody wouldn't have to play his extra vote. Anyway. Amy tells Kalle about the plan to get Maddison out. I send Amy a long ass message Pedro sent Zack that Zack sent me. She tells her group that Zack had sent it to her, to solidify their vote for Pedro. And then She, Kalle, Ben and Pedro form an alliance and they pull off one of the most epic blindsided. I mean, wow. Amy told me beforehand so I saw it coming and I told Cody about it too. Lmao but Ccody just can't be low key he wrote something about Maddison's two idols and he asked in the Old Hanúha group whether anyone had known about the plan lmao obviously Ben was like "no" and wtf. Ben's facial expressions at tribal was hilarious especially because I know he careful conducted this whole genius plan. I mean people still think their alliances are with their alliances and that no one has moles but there are so many layers right now and there are a few moles.

Cody just needs to shut up. Be like Ben who claims that everything he is doing is for James lmao but is in a secret alliance with the person that got James out lmao love it. I haven’t done one of these written confessions in a while! Obviously things have been absolutely fish crazy. Idek what fish crazy means but it just came to me. And on the topic of fish... I’m pretty positive I called Maola a bunch of sharks at tribal council.

If it wasn’t for Naj last night, I would have been completely blonde sided by the vote. I had no idea what was going on, I thought the plan was to put votes on Pedro and Madison and one of them would go.

About 20 minutes before tribal naj called me and said she did not want me to feel left out of the events that were about to occur. She told me the real plan of Pedro and Madison both playing idols and Pedro casting the sole vote on Grae. Not going to lie I was scared shitless... I was so close to writing kalles name as a safety net for myself. What if Pedro would’ve cast the sole vote against me? At the very least it would’ve been a 1-1 tie between myself and kalle. I just didn’t want to be Denise’d out of this game.

Ultimately I trusted my gut which told me to just trust naj. If I had got fucked over last night, at least I would’ve went out trusting the right people. Naj also told me about a 4 person alliance between Amy, Pedro, Kalle, and BEN... My Ben!!! Smh. So moving forward I have to be very careful with the information I give and receive from Ben which sucks because I thought I could trust him more :/ Basically THANK THE LORDT FOR NAJ. So this entire time that I've worked with Ben, he always dictates our moves and every single thing I can or can't say to certain people. If I suggest something he immediately turns it down and will only do what he wants. Men are the worst. Anyways, a little bit ago after he told me what our next move is and didn't let me have any input, he suddenly said "Actually what do you want to do? You go ahead and tell me what you want". That is EXTREMELY sus and makes me think that he's just trying to make me feel better while he's secretly plotting against me. I could go along with it and just let him vote me out bc honestly I'm exhausted, or I could reveal all of the insanity that happened in the last vote to my other alliance and then expose him to his own tribe for working with me. I’m so glad I’m not actually on an island playing real life Survivor right now. I would constantly be in the ocean or somewhere in the bushes bawling my eyes out. And then coming back to camp like, “oh hey guys! No puffy face here, I promise! Yeah everything is peaches! Hanuha strong! Those red eyes are just from too much sun, I think I need to lay down in the shade” I’m not crying over Grae and how shitty I was to Maddison or anything, JayKay I totally am! Sigh. It's been a very long day. I really played hard at this challenge, knowing I have a 15% DA. Do I think it's insane that someone came into the game when half the players had already been eliminated and over half the 24 hours had already passed only to NOT even try to eliminate the one person not in our alliance in there, then pretend it's all kumbaya and eliminate our alliance (who we said we won't eliminate, we made a pact?) one by one? I mean yeah it's damn insane. And not that I'm a sore loser or anything, but I wish she'd have been there when things were actually heated and when everyone else was putting in the hard work. This isn't endurance in my opinion. This is coming into a game late and reaping all the benefits. However, well done on her tactic. Love it honestly. I think she made good moves and knew when to strike and for that, of course I think she's a fkn Queen. Even though I felt as though I was so close to winning immunity, even though I tried really hard. At the end of the day, it's how you outwit and outlast your opponents. Next time I'll be sure to not read challenge rules at 4am and then try to actually understand the game properly and how I too, can make things easier for myself dammit coz I think i keep making everything so hard for myself in this game ugh. There have been so many things that have happened today... This morning Ben, Naj, and I gave Cody enough coins for him to hopefully get the idol. Cody showed me what was in the store and how there were two necklaces for $20 which was odd. He got one of the necklaces and we thought it was a real idol. Tbh we still don’t know if it’s a real idol. Cody sent a fake message to Ben and I showing that it was a “fake idol” (he got the message from Naj when she had found a fake idol). We had a lot of deep, crazy conversations yesterday and one of my favs were actually drooling over survivor players and realising how gay everyone is lmao. I love that. As someone who has struggled with my sexuality for most of my life, thinking I'm gay for a long time and then finding myself attracted to boys too was bizarre in the early 2000s. and being told being bisexual is a "phase" or "confusion" or that it was bc I went to an all girls school (shout out to Rhenish girls High), being in a space where everyone is really open and accepting of all this is amazing. I'm happy i live in a country where gay marriages have been legal since 2006 and ironically being trans or gay is not that big of a deal here as it is in countries way more progressive than ours. I still struggle with non binary pronouns but I am learning thanks to this game. I feel free just being who I am, whoever tf that is in this game. And for that I'm obviously very thankful. Today, I'm married to a man who appreciates my sexuality and is open to me exploring it even more. Its been a long journey and it makes me extremely happy seeing people in this game, so much younger than me and so much more sure of themselves. Mo and this ankle situation feels like not something I want to be monitoring or thinking about in the near term so once I decided to bin him the moves made themselves.

I am back in on Kane.. my lover and FPL mistress will always be welcomed back to both either of my bosoms. I am all in on Mou bouncing them and sticking Kane back to traditional nine as he has done in years past. I have idea who will play in midfield or where but I do believe that Kane will be back up top with no fucking about and he will get them to feed the machine. I've got most of my other bases covered and this just felt like the best way to give me points. Gives me a horse who will start and play all these games as well as strengthening my bench with that Livp blank on the horizon.

I think Walsh being very mad and very frustrated for two weeks and on the last normal pod has rubbed off on me a bit. I mean hits are also in my nature and I have a good track record of hits... It’s not that much of a stretch considering for two weeks I’ve been basically nailed on gonna take a -4 to get to -8 just one more click ya know?

My team was very flagged and in trouble as you can see I’ve removed a red flag backup in CHO, a backup in Kelly (Ward is fit), a player bombed out of the 11 in Lowton, and the old bald shtity guy who plays for the worst team in the Premier League... As far as -8s go pretty fucking good to get rid of a total of 2 points.

As for the guys I brought in Connolly was a panic like two weeks ago when Pukki was dropping again I made the early move of bringing in the now red flagged Connolly but it’s fine he’s gonna ride the bench anyway and should be back soon... The last trio came together literally last second right after Friday My Life I found a set of three that I like and all fit perfectly and just fucking did it.

Maddo is good, despite being down on him (or at least MORE down then most people) I still always said yes he’ll tick and get points, and Goodman kinda convinced me more on him from the Fireside.

I back Liverpool to start keeping cleans now that they don’t have the ridiculously bad fixtures anymore and VVD will start every single match in the pileup. He’s also kinda cover for me since the ownership between Trent/Robbo/Alisson is very high.

And lastly Guilbert Fred Gilbert comes in. He’s been pretty good and attacking since GW3 when he started starting but more importantly for my team he rotates very well with Soy/Tomori so the upcoming fixtures that I’ll be starting Guilbert in are home Newcastle this week, home Southampton in GW18, and home Norwich in GW19. Maybe more, who knows, but that’s the plan.

Alright long transfers section is done and I still feel good about the hit. I’m happy (for now).

Fear-based transfers IN. I’m taking only my second hit of the season in Gameweek 13, which represents massive personal growth for me as an FPL manager. My transfers this week were inspired by a Mourinho quote:

“…during my career, I made mistakes, and I'm not going to make these mistakes, I'm going to make new ones.”

The Pukki to Jiménez move doesn’t need much explaining. Canaries linger in my team because while I was foolishly shuffling KdB out and back in, I should have been dealing with stagnant assets like Pukki. Getting Jim isn’t the most titillating move, but after looking at the options at or below this price, he seems like the most sensible option in both the short- and medium-term.

I decided on the Mo to Mané sideway shuffle very late based on the landscape of my money league with my mates. I’m near the top of the league, and we’re all bad, but I’m the least bad historically. I noticed that I’m the only manager of 12 that still owns Mo, almost everyone has Mané, and I can’t tolerate this risk any longer.

Given health and recent form, I think the probability that Mané outperforms Mo is so much larger than the other way around this week — and over the next few weeks — and I'm prioritizing keeping pace rather than owning a differential. So I’m conceding the 4 points now to correlate my team a little more with the rest that own Mané. If I miss out on a run of Mo hauls, please refer to the José quote above.

His 9 points last gameweek were very unexpected and appreciated. Still, this is a player I’m looking at “downgrading” for a few extra coins before the blanks in GW18.

Looking forward to his 2-21 points this week. This is not new information, but the positions that Lundstram has been taking up in the past few matches are preposterous for someone classed as a defender in FPL. I’ve been almost forced to start him every week based on my personnel, which has proved advantageous since some other managers with deeper teams ended up benching him and missing out.

As a Yank, I’ve watched Pulisic a lot, and this not the player I’m used to seeing. I think he’ll regress or get hurt, and then maybe the proverbial pendulum will swing back to Mount. Chelsea have some home bankers coming up, so I’ll reassess this spot frequently in the coming weeks.

Tielemans (bha)

I used my two frees last week to get this guy and Vardy, so I was obviously buzzing when they linked up for that goal. I opted to get him over Maddo and invest funds in my bench down the road, so I’m perversely desiring to see Youri keep pace with or outperform Maddo.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to imagine him having a license to get farther forward and score in a match like this where Leicester may be bossing possession for long periods.

FWD:

Vardy (bha)

I’m a math/stats guy for work, and I enjoy FPL since eye-test is often so much more illuminating than stuff like xG. That being said, Vardy can’t keep up what he’s doing statistically, but I’m here to embrace and benefit from his unsustainable scoring record for as long as it lasts.

Abraham (mci)

Starting double Chelsea attack away to City does not inspire confidence in my squad, but City defense is a shadow of its former self, and we’ve seen Tammy get behind and punish mistakes, so I have optimism here.

Jiménez (bou)

The third pillar in the VAJ frontline. Do something, you donkey.

CAP:

Vardy (bha)

We may very well see a beleaguered Brighton side given injuries and Dunk’s suspension. We know what Vardy can do with limited chances, so this seems like the sort of match where he can actually get a volume of quality opportunities and maybe even a jammy pen.

Harry Kane scored a hat-trick against Bulgaria as England made it 42 European Champinships and World Cup qualifying games unbeaten

England face a familiar, ominous threat as their path to qualification for Euro 2020 continues to look little more than a formality – but it will not come from any of the teams they will face on the route to next summer’s showpiece.

Their opponents in Group A could almost have been hand-picked for a comfortable passage by manager Gareth Southgate and the Football Association.

There is a danger, however, that lies in brushing aside such impotent opposition with monotonous regularity.

Bulgaria, ranked 60th in the world by Fifa, were dismissed 4-0 at Wembley while Kosovo, at 120th, are next up at St Mary’s in Southampton on Tuesday. The Czech Republic, England’s highest-rated opponents at 43rd, have already been beaten 5-0 at Wembley while Montenegro, at 55, were outclassed 5-1 on their own ground.

Not exactly glorified friendlies but hardly testing occasions either.

England have now gone undefeated in each of their last 42 Euro and World Cup qualifying games, winning 33 and drawing nine, since the defeat by Ukraine in October 2009.

A decade without defeat in qualifying is hugely impressive but the flipside of that is the fat lot of good it has done England when it has really mattered.

England’s run to the 2018 World Cup semi-final was a glorious feel-good surprise, although the perceived success has to be tempered by the fact that they were beaten on the three occasions they met a side of serious quality, namely Belgium twice and Croatia in the last four.

The abysmal World Cups of 2010 and 2014, along with the debacle of Euro 2016, meant the Russian odyssey was an exception rather than the rule.

The make-up of Group A now means England are again presented with the prospect of facing their most taxing competitive tests for two years – 12 months if we count the inaugural Uefa Nations League semi-final loss to the Netherlands – once the serious action gets under way next summer.

The notion of England not qualifying is a non-starter. This is not arrogance but a simple statement of fact. It is clear any starting line-up Southgate assembles from his squad should be good enough to ensure their place at Euro 2020 with the minimum of fuss.

It means there is actually a case for Southgate getting his squad match-hardened for Euro 2020 in the remaining qualifiers with a policy of rotation. There are plenty of promising candidates ready to step up.

Ross Barkley was preferred to James Maddison and Mason Mount in England’s midfield

This was a relatively conservative selection by Southgate, passing over the claims of in-form pair Mason Mount from Chelsea and Leicester City’s James Maddison for starting places, preferring Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice as his midfield anchor men and Chelsea’s Ross Barkley further forward.

Southgate also opted for the experience of Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier over Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back – despite the latter’s vastly superior form over the last 12 months.

The policy cannot be criticised given a 4-0 victory that barely caused England to break sweat but there is still a good case for freshening up England with young blood at St Mary’s on Tuesday.

It would not be a case of taking Kosovo lightly, simply giving England’s young brigade a taste of the competitive action they will need to prepare them for what may await when sterner examinations come next summer.

Not so much experimentation, more sound common sense in readiness for the acid tests.

Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell will come in for suspended Danny Rose at left-back while England’s side would hardly be weakened by Alexander-Arnold’s inclusion.

Mount won his first cap as a substitute and there is a case for actually playing him or Maddison rather than the extra insurance policy of both Henderson and Rice. They could certainly offer a viable alternative and serious competition to Ross Barkley, not as replacements for the future but certainly as rivals.

The good news for England and Southgate is that the current squad looks like it can bear a fair amount of rotation without seriously weakening the overall package.

England captain Harry Kane, with a hat-trick here to take his England tally to 25 goals from 40 appearances and go above 1966 World Cup final hero Sir Geoff Hurst in the all-time list of goalscorers, and Raheem Sterling are irreplaceable.

Kane, admittedly helped by a regular supply of penalties, is building a truly remarkable body of work with England.

He leads from the front in every respect, his tireless work ethic and consistency a touchstone for this modern England, while his partnership with Sterling increasingly looks like a natural, telepathic fit. Southgate has a pairing that will be the envy of many countries at Euro 2020.

Southgate also has room for manoeuvre elsewhere that hardly strips his starting XI of quality.

In defence, Alexander-Arnold is hardly a downgrade on Trippier in the absence of injured Aaron Wan-Bissaka and dropped Kyle Walker, while those midfield options also include Tottenham’s Harry Winks.

Borussia Dortmund’s 19-year-old Jadon Sancho has proved he lives comfortably at this level. He will relish more chances and the big, competitive stage.

England would not be belittling Kosovo or any of their future opponents in qualifying by shuffling their pack. It would simply be a case of seeing the bigger picture.

It is an old concern – but it may be the start of Euro 2020, when faced with the sort of forensic examinations the best teams conduct, before we find out just how good this England team is and how much progress has been made since they just came up short in the semi-finals at the World Cup and the Uefa Nations League.

England have been here before. This time they must be ready for when the serious interrogation starts next summer.

Who should be England’s 23 players for Euro 2020?

With England having confirmed their place at Euro 2020 ahead of the finals draw in eight days’ time, thoughts are turning to the likely make-up of Gareth Southgate’s squad for next summer’s Euro 2020. This would be my 23-man selection, assuming everyone stays fit. England Euro Cup Tickets can be grabbed from our global event ticket sales market.

Goalkeepers

The goalkeeping ranks will not cause Southgate too many headaches over the next few months, provided his key players to avoid injury. For that all he can produce the occasional error, Jordan Pickford remains firmly established as England’s number one, with Burnley’s Nick Pope also now cemented in the squad.

If anything was to happen to Pickford, Pope would start. The third goalkeeper slot tends to be something of a waste, but you have to cover yourself and Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton has performed well enough to justify his inclusion ahead of the likes of Dean Henderson, Fraser Forster or Jack Butland.

Defenders

Things start to get interesting once we turn to the defense. Personally, I’d still be tempted to play with five at the back, especially if England were to find themselves in a knock-out game against top-class opposition.

Harry Maguire is nailed on for a center-half spot, with Joe Gomez increasingly looking like the best bet to play alongside him. John Stones has had his issues with both club and country over the last couple of seasons.

But he remains one of England’s leading center-halves. If he could hold down a place in the Manchester City team, he could yet force himself in the starting line-up.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is England’s first-choice right-back, and with Aaron Wan-Bissaka flattering to deceive somewhat at Manchester United, Kieran Trippier gets the nod as the back-up.

On the opposite flank, Ben Chilwell has come on in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years and now looks one of the best left-backs in Europe. Luke Shaw is another player struggling at Old Trafford, so by process of elimination, Danny Rose makes the cut.

Midfielders

Traditionally, England squads have tended to include eight out-and-out midfielders. However, with Southgate playing a 4-3-3 formation and favoring attackers who can drop slightly deeper if required, I’ve only selected seven to accommodate an extra forward. Even with a couple of injuries, that should be sufficient.

Let’s start with the most notable absentee Declan Rice. Southgate has settled on the West Ham man as the anchor of the England midfield, but without mincing words I haven’t seen anything to convince me he’s good enough for the international level.

His performance in the Czech Republic was one of the worst I’ve seen in an England shirt for a long time. Without Rice, England looks short of holding midfield options, but that’s been a perennial weakness and it will have to be a case of making do.

Jordan Henderson can fill the role perfectly adequately, albeit having to constrain some of his natural desire to forage forward, and in Harry Winks, England have discovered a different type of midfield fulcrum. Czech Republic Euro Cup Tickets fans from all over the world can buy online tickets.

Ross Barkley’s performances in an England shirt merit his inclusion he always seems to be more effective for his country than with Chelsea and James Maddison and Mason Mount have been two of the stars of the season so far. If they maintain their form over the rest of the campaign, they could find themselves starting next summer’s Euro 2020.

"Full package, I wanna know everything" Chris tells the person on the other end of the phone, a smile spreading across his face as Maddie comes out of her room, her hair a mess.

He holds out his free arm as she heads straight for him and buries herself in his chest as soon as she's close enough.

"Yep, OK, that's perfect. Email me everything and I'll get everything back to you ASAP" he says as he wraps his free arm around her and gives her a gentle squeeze.

"Great, thank you so much... you too... enjoy the rest of your day" he says before hanging up and putting his phone in his pocket.

"Sorry... work stuff" he lies, wrapping his other arm around her.

God he hopes he's made the right decision, that what he's about to do doesn't backfire spectacularly.

Please don't be mad at me Maddie, I'm doing this for you.

"S'ok" she hums, snuggling into him even more.

She will never get tired of this, the way she feels wrapped in his arms.

"How was your nap?" he asks quietly as he kisses the top of her head.

"Tired of napping" she grumbles, looking up at him and resting her chin on his chest. This is the third day in a row that she's napped and she's well and truly over it.

"Mads, you're not getting much sleep at night, you need the rest" he tells her, his thoughts drifting to how she woke in a panic at 2am, yet another nightmare ripping her from her sleep.

"Taking time away from us" she whispers, a mixture of sadness and guilt spreading across her face.

He hates this, the way she feels bad about something totally outside of her control.

"Come here" he says quietly as he takes her hand and guides her to the couch, gently pulling her onto his lap.

"It's OK beautiful" he says, smiling softly and tucking her hair behind her ear.

"But..." she starts before getting cut off by his lips against hers, making her hum softly.

"I promise, it's ok" he whispers against her lips.

Team news

Southgate left many senior internationals, including Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of his squad for Friday’s game.

The England boss has instead chosen to play a younger side, with Chelsea duo Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori set for their international debuts.

Fabian Delph has withdrawn from the England Squad and will miss the Euro 2020 qualifier due to a hamstring injury he picked up during Everton’s 1-0 Premier League loss at Burnley on Saturday.

Prediction

The last time the two sides met, England dominated with a 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic. The Czech side have been inconsistent in their five qualifier matches so far, picking up three wins and suffering two defeats whilst the Three Lions have a clean slate. But Jaroslav Silhavy’s side have won six of their last eight qualifiers on home soil, losing just once to Turkey in 2015, and the side will be looking to continue this which could make the clash hard for England.

England will win this game, and should dominate over the Czech Republic.
