LAST TIME ON RANGER ACADEMY:

Dark Specter has begun to infect Ranger Academy, and Sage and Tula tapped into the age-old Red/Green shipping to save the day! Unfortunately Ranger Academy is full of fucking narcs and expelled Tula for being cool and wanting justice for her dead sister or whatever. In general the Headmaster might be cool with children dying? Yeah, Sage, I think we gotta take your polycule and go.

= I know the whole plot with the Green campus and the question of "hey, is being Green bad?" is a big source of contention in the fandom, and I've brought up similar criticisms, but the whole thing kind of makes more sense if you look at it outside of the context of the PR universe and more in terms of it being some kind of LGBTQA+ allegory. Like it was kind of hinted at before, and I don't know if it's still 100% intentional considering this book is full of legit LGBTQA representation that isn't treated like a big deal in-universe, but panels like this feel especially blatant with that kind of message

= If you wonder why I keep complaining about the overuse of romance in Darkest Hour, stuff like this is why. We don't know if Mathis and Tula is romantic - but what's important is that you can really feel how powerful their bond is that they could be believably romantic if the comic chooses to go that route. Darkest Hour seemed to rely on just the fact that they have a romance to do the heavy lifting for actually proving how close they are

= heyyyy the debut of Theo and Maev's Ranger forms (yeah the Ranger Academy suits are just recolors, but shush, it's still cool) and Ranger weapons! Maev's pretty much got Power Daggers like MMPR Yellow but Theo has a spear that shoots fire, so a W for Black Rangers here

I currently have two ideas, and I’m not sure which to focus my attention on first. So, I’d like to know which one you guys would be most interested in.

1 | the (worst) baby-sitter’s club

liam, theo, jackson, and isaac were tasked with the very simple job of baby-sitting their packs’ pups, eli and maeve (sterek), and hikari (skira)—and they manage to screw it up so badly they end up in 2004, with the original Hale Pack. armed with the smallest snippets of vague information they should’ve been paying better attention to when it was discussed in the future, they attempt to prevent the hale fire (and also keep the pups alive, so their alphas don’t kill them when they figure out how to return)

2 | growing up is chaotic

the world goes to shit with the supernatural-hunter war, and by the time eli and his cousins (maeve, alec, and hikari) are teenagers, they’re orphans with nothing except a half-cocked plan of time travel. they manage to travel back just in time to help out with the kanima fiasco and hopefully prevent a whole lot of shit from happening. oh, and their teenage parents are way more of a clusterfuck than they could have guessed

Gale and Laila's Kids Headcanons

There's a lot again and trigger warning for birth

Have three girls (seven, four, and one) 

Theodosia Fay or Dosia, the oldest of the bunch, has blonde hair and peach skin like Laila, and brown eyes like Gale. She is very intelligent and works easily with the Weave. She holds her father’s knack for magic and books. She is like her mother though with her kindness and animal loving. 

Her birthday is Kythorn (June) 20th. It’s the summer solstice. She was five days late and was born naturally at the healer’s maternity ward. She’s born at 5:20 am. She’s 6.1 lbs, and 20.1 inches long at birth. 

Dosia is the kid that finds animals in the forest and befriends them. There are now squirrels and owlbears that sit by the door waiting for Dosia to put out their food. Gale and Laila find it endearing, and the animals love them. 

Dosia’s favorite activity is reading with her dad in his study after work. When Laila goes to the market, she’ll always find them a new book to read. The last book she found was about an orphaned owlbear who was taken in by bears and learned to adapt. It’s Theo's favorite book. 

Her favorite item is her teddy bear that was given to her by her grandfather Hale, Laila’s dad. He kept it for her mother because it was the last item he had from her before she was abandoned. 

Gwendolyn Irene or Gwen, the middle child, has ginger hair like her grandfather Hale and brown eyes like Gale. She has extremely peach skin and freckles like Laila. She’s a lot like her mama with her knack for the outdoors and adventuring. However, she is so smart. She easily excels in classes and reading like Gale. 

Her birthday is Nightal (December) 1st. She was supposed to be born at the whaler’s ward like her sister but is instead born at home due to a blizzard. Luckily, Morena comes over and helps coach them through it. She was born one day overdue and she’s born at 10:39pm. She’s 5.11 lbs and 19.9 inches long. 

Gwen loves cooking with her dad. Her favorite is the pumpkin stew he makes in the autumn around Feast of the Moon. They go to market together, get all the supplies and spend all day marinating the meat and softening the pumpkins. It’s her favorite food. 

She loves owlbears and when she sees them she just squeals. 

Her favorite activity with her mother is gardening. They have a large garden behind the house they own and every year they plant an extraordinary garden with fruits, veggies, and herbs. 

Her favorite item is her blankie that has her name embroidered in it. It’s an item Astarion made for her for her birth. It’s purple and has black embellishments on it with small gold accents, like the colors from Gale and Laila’s wedding. In gold writing it states “Gwendolyn Irene Dekarios.” 

The last baby is Josephine Maeve or Josie. She has brunette hair and tanner skin like Gale, but freckles and heterochromia with a blue eye and brown eye like Laila. Like Laila, she has a heart of gold and can make friends with anyone. Like Gale, she is so good at spellcasting and magic. 

She was born on Alturiak (February) 13th. She is two weeks early. When Laila goes into labor, she panics. It’s too early and Gale doesn’t help freaking out. Morena comes over to watch the girls as they rush to the healer's ward. As soon as they get there, Laila discusses how dizzy she feels and immediately they notice the blood surrounding her feet. They rush her back into surgery to save her and hopefully the baby as well. 

When Josie is born she’s 5.1 lbs and 18.1 inches long. She’s born at 9:07am and while she’s strong, she’s healthy. Laila is a bit dazed but comes out fully alright, but they have to perform an emergency hysterectomy to stop her bleeding. 

She loves fishing with Gale for dinner. She even has a fishing pole that Halsin made her when she was a baby.

While Halsin is close with all the kids, being an honorary uncle/grandpa, he immediately clicks with them. He adores them and always spoils them. When they visit the grove, he makes them a room to stay in with toys and books. They adore him back.

Rules: which of your OCs would you assign to which of the seven deadly sins and why?

Greed:

Leda, international jewel thief turned almost upstanding citizen is definitely the greediest OC. She tends to focus on things she personally enjoys vs. cash value, but she often struggles to share...well anything, especially things she considers vital (food, water, shelter etc).

Sloth:

This one is tough. I think A’Navi of Shippy McShipface that fits the bill. She is certainly the least active of the OCs and tends to do most of her work from a pilots chair.

Wrath:

Quinn, ship mechanic and part time rough neck from Shippy McShipface. He, especially pre-story, communicates through anger and wrath quite often. He tends to see red and go without thinking things through.

Gluttony:

Shippy, the alien AI of Shippy McShipface. Shippy is a glutton of soap operas, fanfiction and trope-y media in hopes of finding a way to bring her pilot and mechanic together (with varying degrees of success). Shippy literally devours whole series of things to better understand how one makes humans fall in love.

Envy:

Maeve, my newest OC, is definitely feeling envious. Mostly of other people's lives and circumstances. She is also on the short list for wrath, but that wrath is almost always coming from a place of feeling slighted and envy for someone else's life.

Lust:

Forest, magical being and minor god of Haints Holler definitely has a lust problem. Lusting for power is his biggest weakness, but he’s also been known to lust after a particular witch.

Pride:

Chance, head of the murder fairy time police of Lady Luck, is a peacock of a man. Big, muscled and redheaded. Full of pride in not just his physical prowess but his ability to control any situation. And that he managed to land Theo.

depends on the characters! most of my central characters either have canon names or are closely tied to a canon character - heather's name matches lavender brown (botanical), priam's matches pansy parkinson, maeve's matches millicent bulstrode, and charlotte's matches corban yaxley. that way they sound like they belong in the story, because their names are familiar, as opposed to having one person with a Super Special Name who sticks out a lot

plus there's theophania nott who matches theodore nott (they're both named after the same person, theodosia nott, because i was going wild on the theo names), and every single mckinnon whose given name starts with m, and you get the idea. mostly it's by letter, unless there's some sort of naming theme like with heather and lavender

i have a private discord channel where i keep track of names i think are cool, so when i need a character name that's the first place i go. (i accumulate those just from the world - names i see in news articles, books, on social media, etc.) most of the other non-canon character names come from there. i also use nameberry and behindthename a lot - behindthename also has a surname site, which is IMMENSELY helpful

if i'm trying to come up with family members of a canon character (for example, evan's family), i generally just go on vibes of the canon character

when coming up with names that sound like they fit in the hp universe in general, names from greco-roman mythology, as well as latin names and their variations, are pretty much always a good bet

basically any masculine name ending in -us will sound reasonable - canonically, there's albus, lucius, xenophilius, filius, quirinus, sirius, regulus, remus, rufus, cornelius, rodolphus, amycus, severus, cygnus, arcturus, rubeus........

(feminine names: take one of those -us names and swap the -us out for an -a. that's how you get narcissa and augusta)

greco-roman goddess names (hestia, minerva, aurora, pomona, etc) or feminine mythological names (pandora, daphne, andromeda, etc) will also sound like they fit, as will floral names (lavender, pansy, fleur, poppy, etc)

but i've named a frankly ridiculous number of characters so i'm not going to attempt to go through them all and explain how i picked their names - i don't even want to count them afjslghsjkdf
