Evaine is trans if I remember correctly, right? I'd love to know more about the general gist of transitioning in this setting.

Is it a combination of magic, potions and physical surgery? Do Mages or Priestesses learn magic specifically designed to help those wanting to transition?

When did Evaine know they wanted to transition, or is that stuff we'll find out in their romance route?

Mostly, transitioning care is done by physician, very skilled and usually rare ones, that can prepare poultices (whose recepies usually contain plants that are magical in nature, even though the physicians themselves do not know that) or perform surgery.

Surgery is more risky, as it can lead to health complications afterwards, but some people do prefer it over the poultices.

Since there are very few mages, and they are mostly hidden, their ways of transitioning are lost. But some kind of mages can alter their appearance to transition in a different, and more radical way. Due to the purge, no mage performs healing magic on non magea anymore.

As for Evaine... everything that regards their transition, and their general feelings on their gender identity, will be shown in their route!

*extends mic* can you please please tell us something about an extra or a side character, and what are your ideas for them (w/o spoilers of course ^^)

I decided to do Metamorphosis for this one since I haven’t talked about those guys in a bit (you’re getting so neglected out here I’m sorry).

Metamorphosis has a fairly large cast, with a few of them still needing to be designed, but the most important ones come from the Seventh Sector. It’s where we meet the rest of the main characters: Ryuji, Kageko, Odesa, and Dior. But, while there, we also meet two characters who are sort of “extras” in the story.

Loretta Malekala and Ophelia Dyal.

Loretta, when the story starts, has already long been proclaimed dead. She served as the previous head of the Seventh Sector before Ophelia, and it is rumoured that the two had been close.

She is used as a sort of cautionary tale to the characters throughout the first few arcs. Because of the curse placed upon Immortai, their magic is quite literally poison to them. Using it is thought to be highly dangerous, and most refuse to. Part of Aster’s own arc is his stubbornness with this, and his hero complex. Unlike other hunters, he uses his magea freely. Others carry a weapon as transferring the curse onto an inanimate object dulls the effects. But with Aster he refuses to do so, proclaiming that it weakens his abilities. Loretta is meant to mirror him, a woman who had been stuck in the same mindset as he was.

She haunts the narrative throughout the story, and is directly tied to Aster’s storyline. Her “death” is very important to a certain event that happens with Ryuji and Aster, which both fundamentally changes their characters forever. Two events, if you really think about it.

Meanwhile Ophelia is the current leader of the Seventh Sector, and Ryuji and Aster’s mother. In the first few arcs, she is an epitome of leadership, a person who does the very things that need to happen to keep her Sector protected. It’s a stark contrast to what ends up happening with her character arc later on, showing how far she lost herself inside this world of war and brutality.

Ophelia is kind and nurturing, and works in the infirmary for the most part, assisting to patch up whatever fallen soldier lands themself on her doorstep, and cleaning up the dead that don’t make it. Although my ideas for her past the first few arcs are a pretty large spoiler, she is supposed to be this very straight-edged, prim and proper character that pushes Yara’s growth and development as one of the hunters for the Division.

Both of them represent the pressure being a leader of the Sector causes, and how the war and the harsh upbringing of the Division actively corrupts more people than they like to acknowledge.

For fans of fantasy that don't mind a little bit of chocolate (sci-fi) getting in their peanut butter (fantasy), and who like multiple POVs and an ensemble cast, worlds where the gods are real, slow burn stories, sympathetic villains, and chonky books (it's over 250,000 words long).

What is it about?

Could you refuse a goddess's call?

From country's second-best princess to its best warrior, Yarrow deZameera Zarqon has worked hard to build a life of which she can be proud. Lousy officer's pay, the camaraderie of her fellow soldiers, and all the wenching and drinking she can stand -- why would she want anything more?

Yet more powerful forces have their own ideas of how the world should look. The ever-warring twin goddesses of light and dark have chosen their mortal champions: Zardria deZameera Zarqon, next in line to the throne and Yarrow's twin sister, has already heeded the call of the dark goddess Umbra.

Umbra must never gain power in Athering, yet when Zardria claims her birthright that is exactly what will happen. Never one to aspire to being Goddess-touched, Yarrow now must heed the call of Kore -- goddess of light -- or the coming storm won't just mean an end to her life.

It will mean the loss of her soul.

Characters + brief description of them

I'll list five of them…but there are more. Ensemble cast for the win!

Yarrow deZameera Zarqon: princess-turned-bellica, now leader of the first regiment. Red, wavy/curly hair, over six feet tall, built like a very muscular birch tree. Alcoholic with a foul mouth and a tendency to bed whatever moves. Possibly the most sardonic person in Athering. A complete hot mess and the chosen one. Head over heels for her best friend, but he's an idiot & has no clue.

Theme song: Die Another Day, Madonna.

Zardria deZameera Zarqon: Yarrow's twin, heir to the Sceptre by virtue of being born first. As tall as her sister, but with black hair and a skin tone hinting at non-Atherian ancestry. Cold and calculating--at least when Hecate is full.

Theme song: Missing, Evanescence.

Caelum deTerra: The OG golden retriever. A blond himbo with a sword. Yarrow's best, closest friend, and her second-in-command. Desperately in love with her but her skull is thicker than stone and she has no idea.

Theme song: Weak and Powerless, A Perfect Circle

Ghia deHelene: short, plump, sassy, with hair as red as Yarrow's, and wears her heart on her sleeve so she can hide in plain sight. A healer of extraordinary talent. Has certain…abilities. Idealistic and young. Demisexual, which in libidinous Athering makes her feel horrendously abnormal. Definitely doesn't feel anything beyond friendship for her friend Jules. Nope.

Theme song: Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, Les Miserables.

Jules deTania: Yarrow's Chief Medical Officer and conscience. Ghia's closest friend in the Regiments. A "bloody thick-headed Northerner" and "prize idiot". Generous to a fault. Will set himself on fire to keep others warm. Has a penchant for redheads.

Theme song: The Impossible Dream (The Quest), Man of La Mancha.

Magea Rosa: An ancient being that resides in the North Tower of the castle. Last member of a dead race. An original inhabitant of the planet before Terrans arrived. Has a long, storied, and thorny history with said new species. Has psionic abilities.

Theme song: The Ghost of You, My Chemical Romance

Vibes/Tone/Mood

Dark yet hopeful; life might be shit but the world is enchanted and there is always a chance for things to get better. Themes include the sun triumphant and amor vincit omnia.
