Google Magic Mirror Experience Driven by Gemini Models

Google Magic Mirror

The new “Google Magic Mirror” showcases the JavaScript GenAI SDK and Gemini API's interactivity. A mirror, a common object, becomes a discussion interface in this idea.

The Google Magic Mirror optimises real-time communication. Interactivity relies on the Live API, which allows real-time voice interactions. The mirror participates in a genuine back-and-forth discussion in text or voice by digesting speech as you speak, unlike systems that merely listen for one order.

The Live API powers bidirectional, real-time audio streaming and communication. One of Live API's most dynamic features is speech detection during playback. This interruption can dynamically change the tale and dialogue, enabling text and aural dialogue, depending on the user's actions.

Google Magic Mirror can be a “enchanted storyteller” and a communication tool. This feature uses the Gemini model's advanced generating capabilities. The storytelling component can be customised by delivering system commands that affect the AI's tone and conversational style. By modifying speech configurations during initialisation, the AI can respond with different voices, accents, dialects, and other traits. AI language and voice are changed by speech setting.

The project combines the model's real-world connection for contemporary information seekers. The Google Magic Mirror may use Grounding with Google Search to provide real-time, grounded news. This ensures that the mirror's responses are not limited to its training material. Starting with Google Search ensures current, reliable information.

Image generation by the mirror adds a touch of “visual alchemy” to the experience. Function Calling from the Gemini API lets the mirror create images from user descriptions. This strengthens the engagement and deepens storytelling. The Gemini model determines whether a user request creates an image and triggers a function based on provided features.

The picture production service receives a detailed prompt from the user's spoken words. Function Calling is a more extensive feature that allows Gemini models to speak with publically accessible external tools and services, such as picture generation or bespoke actions, based on the discussion.

The user experience hides the technology intricacies, while strong Gemini model aspects provide this “magical experience” in the background. Among these technical traits:

Live API controls bidirectional, real-time audio streaming and communication.

Gemini models can call functions from external tools and services like picture production or bespoke actions based on the discussion.

Using Google Search for current, accurate information.

System directives shape AI tone and conversation.

Speech configuration changes AI responses' tone and vocabulary.

The inventors say their Gemini-enabled Google Magic Mirror is more than a gimmick. It shows how advanced AI may be blended into real life to create helpful, fascinating, and even miraculous interactions. Flexibility allows the Gemini API to enable many more applications. Immersive entertainment platforms, dynamic educational tools, and personalised assistants are possible applications.

The Google Magic Mirror's code is available on GitHub for those interested in its technical operation. Hackster.io also provides a detailed build tutorial. The founders of X and LinkedIn want the community to imagine what their Google magic mirror could do and contribute ideas and other Gemini-enabled products.

According to Senior Developer Relations Engineer Paul Ruiz on the Google Developers Blog, this effort celebrates generative AI's ability to turn everyday objects into interactive portals.

CHAPTER ELEVEN (of frozen heart)

As Family Day continued, Elisa was loving spending time with her family. It was nice to be surrounded by those who love her and supported her, especially after spending so much time on the Isle. But when there was a sudden commotion by the croquet field, she quickly excused herself from the conversation she was having with her parents and Jax to go see what was going on.

She approached the area, finding Mal talking to Queen Leah, Aurora's mother. She grimaced and quickly approached the two, standing besides Mal. She placed a comforting arm on the teen, startling her but she then relaxed after realizing who she was. She looked back at Queen Leah and Audrey, who was holding her grandma's hand. Fairy Godmother had came over when Queen Leah suddenly raised her voice. Elisa quickly realized that she thought Mal was her mom.

"Queen Leah, don't worry, this isn't Maleficent. This is her daughter, Mal." She explains, smiling reassuringly at her. "Don't you remember Ben's proclamation?"

"How could I not remember? I heard what you did to my granddaughter, Ice Princess." Queen Leah glares at her. "You tried freezing her! And her friend! You should've never been allowed to leave the Isle. We all would've been much safer if you stayed there. Rotting, along with the rest of your friends."

"Hey! Watch it." Jax snapped, quickly standing beside Elisa and glaring at the Queen.

"You should be locked up with them on the Isle." Queen Leah replied as she glared at him.

"He doesn't even have any powers." Elisa retorts, trying to keep calm. "So, shut your mouth. Before I make you." She couldn't help but feel anger rising in her, her power wanting to come out. She wanted to freeze her, show her just how powerful she was. But she didn't.

"Why should I? You're the one who should be locked up." Queen Leah hisses, stepping forward and jabbing her finger against her chest. "You're the one who put my granddaughter in danger. You should've never been let off the Isle."

Fairy Godmother quickly chimes in, trying to diffuse the situation as Ben quickly joins them. He stands at Elisa's side, wrapping a comforting arm around her waist. She felt herself begin to relax a bit at his touch.

"Queen Leah, I assure you, everything is under control. These kids are not their parents. And Elisa didn't mean to loss control of her powers that day." Ben tried to reason with her, but she wasn't having it.

"That doesn't change the fact that she almost killed Audrey and Chad!" Queen Leah snapped.

"Audrey and Chad are idiots." Mal huffed, rolling her eyes.

"Do you know the real reason why I lost control? It was because of them!" Elisa glares at Audrey, who just glared back at her. "They taunted me and got under my skin. It was their fault I lost control. Not mine."

Queen Leah looks surprised at this, glancing at her granddaughter and frowning. Audrey avoids her gaze, shifting uncomfortably. Elisa couldn't help but feel a small twinge of satisfaction. It was true, it was their fault that she had lost control. She was getting sick and tired of getting blamed for something she had no control on.

"Regardless, you're still a threat." Queen Leah continues, looking back at Elisa. She glances at Mal. "You and all your friends are still threats."

Nearby, Elisa's and Jax's family were watching the scene and they weren't happy at all. Elsa had to keep a tight grip on Jack's hand before he tried making any reckless decisions. Jack was livid, wanting to protect his daughter from this woman. But his wife kept him back, not wanting him to cause a scene.

"Queen Leah, please. I can assure you that everyone is safe here. There's no reason to be afraid." Fairy Godmother tried to reason with her, giving her a strained smile. She didn't like the way Queen Leah was talking about Elisa. She had always been fond of the girl, she was sweet and kind. It was a shame that her powers had gotten the better of her that day, but she wasn't mad at her. She understood how hard it must've been for her, how much stress and fear she was under.

"You can't guarantee that." Queen Leah replies, crossing her arms over her chest. "She almost killed Audrey and Chad." She looks at Elisa, glaring daggers at her. "What if something else triggers her? What if she loses control again and freezes the whole kingdom? Like what her mother did."

That was the last straw for Anna. "Okay, let me at her!" She tried to walk away to walk over to Queen Leah, but Kristoff quickly grabbed her and held her back.

"Woah, woah, woah! Anna, no." He says, trying to hold her back. But she kept trying to pull away, glaring daggers at Queen Leah. "Calm down."

"Don't tell a woman to calm down." She hisses, still glaring at Queen Leah. "Let. Me. Go."

"Anna, calm down." Kristoff says, pulling her closer and wrapping his arms around her. "Don't do anything rash. You're gonna make more of a scene than there already is." He kept his arms wrapped around her to prevent her from doing anything and was relieved when she didn't try to fight him anymore. He didn't like what Queen Leah was saying about his niece and sister in law either, but he wasn't going to risk anything.

Elsa could feel her resolve getting weaker and was tempted to go and put an end to this. She hated hearing someone talk like that to her daughter. And then claiming that her daughter would do the same thing she did? That was just preposterous.

"Elisa's not like me." Elsa said, her voice stern and filled with anger. "She has more control of her powers than I did at her age. She's worked hard to learn to control them, and she would never intentionally harm anyone." Elsa steps forward, her icy gaze locked with Queen Leah's. "You have no right to judge her based on her parentage. She is her own person, and she deserves to be treated with respect and understanding."

Queen Leah looks taken back by Elsa's words, a hint of fear showing in her eyes. She was intimidated by her, and she should be. If Elsa was angry, then she should be terrified. She was the Snow Queen, after all. "Elsa…" Jack muttered, staring at his wife with wide eyes. He had only seen her this angry a handful of times. It was quite frightening. He had to admit he was a bit scared of her himself, but he knew she would never hurt her loved ones. He kept a hand on her waist, his thumb rubbing soothing circles against her hip.

Elsa had to admit his touch helped calm her down, but she was still pissed. She had a feeling her powers were close to bursting. She could feel a chill radiating from her body. She had to remain calm. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "I suggest you leave my daughter alone. You have no idea what she went through and you have no right to judge her for her actions." She turns to leave, her husband following behind her.

Queen Leah frowns and scoffs. "Of course. Run along and hide behind your wife. Coward." She mutters.

Jack quickly stopped and spun around, his glare icy. "What did you say?"

"Jack, don't." Elsa says, placing a hand on his arm. She could see that he was trying to hold himself back, and she could feel his rage. It was scary, his fury. She could feel her husband's anger growing and knew she had to do something before he did. "It's not worth it. Let's just go."

"I'll say this." Queen Leah began, smirking. "It's no wonder why Elisa has such poor control over her powers. Her father is nothing but a coward. No wonder she is a villain."

Before anyone could stop him, Jack had shoved past his wife and storms over to Queen Leah. Ben and Jax had to quickly jump in front of him to hold him back. "How dare you?!" Jack shouts, glaring daggers at the older woman. He tries to break free, but the boys had a tight grip on him. "You have no idea what I went through! And you have no right to talk like that to my daughter!"

Elisa was surprised and touched by her father's reaction. It had been so long since she had seen him angry. She had almost forgotten how scary it was. But now, it was directed at someone who was talking bad about her and her family. And she couldn't be more grateful. She walks up and gently takes a hold of her father's arm, his angry gaze landing on her. "Dad, don't. She's not worth it."

Queen Leah looks over at Ben with disbelief. "How could you let these kids leave the Isle?" She glances at Mal with a glare. "My daughter was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse. So, her first words, her first steps, I missed it all!" She turns away with crossed arms, looking at Fairy Godmother pleadingly. "You mustn't trust her. Or any of them."

"Hey, I'm so-" Mal stepped forward, looking genuinely apologetic as she tried to apologize.

Chad was quick to step in, standing in front of her. "Go away! Stay away from her!"

"Don't do this, Chad." Ben warned.

Elisa notices at this point everyone was watching them. Her other friends had came over with worry and concern on their faces. Parker was standing by Mal to comfort her which she thought was sweet. She knew the two had gotten close during their time together. Parker clearly cared for the girl no matter what people may think. Jay, Carlos, and Evie, had joined them, standing behind them and watching with mixed expressions. Elisa had to admit, she hated how everyone was watching them. She had grown up under the watchful eyes of the people of Arendelle, being the princess and future queen. She was used to people staring and watching her, but that didn't stop her from not liking it.

"What? They were raised by their parents, Ben. What do you think villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Fair play? No way, okay? Uh-uh." Chad scoffs, shaking his head. He glances at Elisa, who still stood by her dad and brother. "You stole another girl's boyfriend, plus you almost froze me and Audrey, ice princess."

Anger and frustration flashed in Elisa's eyes and she felt her dad move to take a step forward, but she quickly held him back. She shook her head, silently telling him to not bother. She was just as mad as he was, she knew the rest of their family were upset too but they couldn't make more of a scene than they already did.

Ben stands in front of Elisa, blocking Chad's view of her. "Chad-"

Chad ignores him, glancing over at Mal. "You're lucky you and your little friends are not back on the Isle where you belong." He looks over at Jay next. "You enjoy hurting people." He then glances at Evie with a harsh expression. "And you, you're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater."

At that, Elisa had trouble holding herself back. How dare he talk to her friends like that?! "Mirror, mirror, in my hand, who's the biggest jerk in the land?" Evie said to her magic mirror before showing it to Chad, revealing his face on it.

"What? Come on!" Chad scoffed and shoved her away.

Jay quickly steps in, grabbing the front of Chad's collar. "Back off, Chad."

The scene quickly became more chaotic as others tried to get Jay off Chad. Evie had pulled out the perfume bottle with the potion that was for the limo driver. She sprayed it at Chad, causing him to fall limp into Doug's arms. Elisa was frozen in shock as she watched the scene. It all happened so fast, and she couldn't believe how quickly things escalated. She felt a mixture of emotions swirling inside her—anger, frustration, and worry. She knew her friends were only trying to defend themselves, but she also knew that their actions would only make matters worse.

"El, come on!" She felt a tug on her hand, pulling her away from her family and she stumbled after her friend. She then realized it was Jay who was dragging her away. He had an arm wrapped around her waist, keeping her close. As they made their way out, Elisa glanced over at her family, seeing their worried and confused expressions. She looked over at Ben, seeing he looked surprised, confused, and worried about what was going on.

As she passed him, he reaches out and grabs her arm, gently pulling her back. He didn't let her go as the others kept going, he could tell she was distressed and wanted to make sure she was alright. Elisa turns and her heart fluttered at seeing the worry and concern in his eyes. "I'm fine," She whispers. "I'll catch up with you later, okay?"

Ben looked like he wanted to say something, but just nodded. He gently squeezed her hand, a silent message that told her everything was going to be alright. She wasn't sure how, but she hoped that was the case. She squeezed his hand back before pulling away and following Jay, who had waited for her. She quickly caught up with him and the two continued on.

That was for sure one way to end Family Day. She just hoped things wouldn't get worse.

No complaints from RED- she embraced IF until she made any motion to leave her personal space. A lot of hunting and not enough lingering did make the heart grow fonder of those moments.

She smiled at how fast Neptune had dug in, as expected, but didn't touch the food herself until she had a chance to address the question.

"I don't go looking for shenanigans! They find me instead! All I'm doing is searching for more wifeys!"

Very little self-awareness, as usual. Still, she leaned back to think.

"But it's been going... Well! In a way. Hmm..."

"I met a whole load of people! There was this really driven girl that wore a magatama as well... She didn't like me at first, but I'd like to think that she warmed up to me! I had a fun time with this sorceress which seemed to change appearances every so often- Ah! I even ended up on a place where so many of the important people around were girls and somehow I made friends with the one guy around! That was all... interesting."

She paused, blinking blankly at the pudding which she could actually seize in front of her.

"I even met with others Reds! Well, one wasn't quite like me, but she was still all red-hooded and red-like! Oh, but one was DEFINITELY just like me! We were surprisingly cool with each other and- And. ... Huh."

Her voice faltered.

"Come to think of it, not many wifeys made along the way... which was the whole-"

She shook her head comically fast, as if she had just gotten flustered.

"W-Well, it takes time to build up the stats to make ALL the wifeys! Sometimes the best choice you can make is no choice at all when dealing with people! I learned that's the super-secret option that can lead to the harem endings!"

She looked more satisfied with that answer, and dug in onto the pudding herself, eyes lighting up with joy as the taste took over.

"Ahhh, but the hard part is actually going back to talk to them! I feel like a lot of those encounters weren't in Gamindustri- like I jumped somewhere and VROOM- totally different place! I think I met wifey Neptune that way too, once! You haven't been whisked away to lands unknown recently or anything, have you?"

She directed the question at Neptune primarily, but she still looked around the room to IF if she happened to answer anything.

Soon as RED went for a hug, IF gladly gave her one, holding on a little bit longer than normal as she backed away for a moment and placed the pudding cups onto a nearby table.

And of course, Neptune is already digging in.

"Good to see you too, RED. Care to tell us what sort of shenanigans you have gotten up to since you left us?"
