Went to @beachtownbooks for Story Time with my son and it was sooo much fun! Miss Christina was soooo sweet, we cannot wait to go back. My son already requested the Hungry Hungry Caterpillar! Hahaha Whilst there NATURALLY we got some books for ourselves! All of this came out to about $25, granted I had a lot of store credit. To get store credit you just need to bring in any of your old books and it will go towards store credit which is used up to half off your purchase... Alex’s formative reading assessment came home today with a suggested on level reading list. How happy was I that the MAGIC TREEHOUSE series was on that list and we already owned it! Alex is still getting used to the idea of chapter books and still madly in love with so many of his picture book friends (pretty sure he’ll try to write a college dissertation on the writings of Mo Willems or the great friendship feats of Pete the Cat), so compromises must be created to enter into these new worlds. Tonight, at bedtime we made an agreement that I would read the odd chapters of the book while he read the evens. This is my first time in the Magic Treehouse series too! We were both hooked immediately. (How happy was I that Alex seemed just as excited as I was when Jack and Annie discovered the treehouse was filled with BOOKS?!) When you forget how insane and awesome children books were compared to now

I was watching some kids and found Magic Tree House: #13 Vaction Under the Volcano. I remember reading this over a decade ago. I now study Ancient Greece and Rome at university, so this book was super interesting to read. Also Mary Pope Osborne added facts about the place and time of the setting, however it was the plot that was amazing!

Quick plot summary for this Magic Tree House: Morgan le Fay (yes, the one from Camelot) sends two children into Pompeii on August 24th, 79 CE, to find a book for her library.

I REPEAT!!! MORGAN LE FAY SENDS TWO CHILDREN TO POMPEII, THE DAY MOUNT VESUVIUS ERUPTS AND DOES NOT EVEN TELL THEM! Not only that but there were gladiators, soothsayer, ancient libraries, politics, and legit architectural details concerning Roman towns.
