Nach nur zehn Minuten Bahnfahrt war ich in Füssen. Schließlich liegt die letzte Station, der Bahnhof Weizern-Hopfenau, geradezu vor den Toren der Stadt. Angekommen geht es für mich erstmal ein paar Schritte durch die Altstadt. Über die Bahnhofsstraße komme ich zum Prinzregentenplatz und von dort in die Fußgängerzone, die in Füssen passender Weise die Bezeichnung “Reichenstraße” trägt! Füssens…

In episode 1 I travel from Stockholm down to southern Germany and the picturesque city of Füssen! I find a viewing point, go to the High Castle of Füssen and take a short hike to Hohenschwangau Castle, where I went on an audio tour.

UrRock Musik Festival bestätigt die ersten Headliner und vier weitere Bands

Gleich auf Anhieb ein zweitägiges Festival mit nationalen und internationalen Bands erfolgreich zu organisieren ist eines. Die Organisation dann so reibungslos abläuft, dass sich alle einig sind, dass es unbedingt einer Fortsetzung bedarf, das andere. Das UrRock Musik Festival in Stans hat im letzten November alles richtig gemacht. Abwechslungsreiches Billing, guter Mix aus nationalen und internationalen Bands und vorallem eine freundliche, sympathische Art und Weise der Durchführung die bei den Fans als auch bei den Musikern auf Anhieb gut ankam. Für mich persönlich war das UrRock eines der Highlights im vergangenen Jahr und bin überglücklich haben sich die Organisatoren dazu entschieden, der ersten Ausgabe eine zweite Auflage folgen zu lassen. Heute hat man die ersten Sechs von insgesamt Zwölf Bands vom Stapel gelassen. Und was soll ich sagen die Vorfreude steigt schon massiv an, weil da kommen echte Leckerbissen.

Allen voran meine Lieblingsschweden von ECLIPSE. Die Band rund um Mastermind und Tausendsassa Erik Martensson sind immer ein Garant für ein Konzert Highlight. Ich habe die Jungs mittlerweile schon ein paar Mal live gesehen und sie haben mich noch nie enttäuscht. Mit einem schon bald erscheinenden neuen Album im Gepäck gehen Eclipse auf Tour zu ihrem 20. jährigen Bandjubiläum. Verdient werden sie eine der vier Headliner Shows am UrRock spielen. Ich bin mir sicher die beiden Magnusse, Philip und Erik werden auch den Senkel in Stans zum Beben bringen und in einen Hexenkessel verwandeln. ECLIPSE sind ein Garant für schnörkellose Rockshows und ihren melodischen Hymnen wird sich eh keiner entziehen können. Wer hier ruhig stehen bleibt, hat definitiv Blei in den Füssen. Ich bange jetzt schon wieder um meine Stimmbänder die spätestens nach Battlegrounds wieder am Arsch sein werden, so wie immer. Aber noch mehr freue ich mich dann wieder am Merchandising Stand wieder ein paar Worte mit den Jungs wechseln zu können.

Vier Headlinershows soll es in diesem Jahr am UrRock Musik Festival geben. Dass heisst an jedem Tag werden zwei Bands ihr volles Programm auffahren. Heute werden vorerst jedoch nur zwei genannt. Die eine habe ich schon erwähnt, die zweite ist nicht weniger interessant. Auch schon seit 22 Jahren unterwegs und seit Jahren eine tragende Säule im deutschen Power Metal sind PRIMAL FEAR. Die prägnante und einzigartige Stimme von Ralf Scheepers, die ohne Zweifel zu den Besten gehört, die der Power Metal zu bieten hat, zeichnet die Band aus. Aber Primal Fear haben noch mehr zu bieten. Mit Mat Sinner haben sie noch eine Ikone der deutschen Rockmusik an Bord, der sich nicht nur als Bassist einen Namen verschafft hat, sondern mit all seinen anderen Bands, Projekten (unter anderem Rock Meets Classic) auch als Produzent immer wieder für Furore sorgt. Da sind dann aber noch die drei Gitarristen Magnus Karlsson, Alex Beyrodt und Tom Naumann, die für eine gewaltiges Brett an Riffs sorgen werden. Angetrieben durch den Motor Francesco Jovino wird das ein Ohrenschmaus. Die letzten vier Alben von Primal Fear konnten zudem allesamt die Schweizer Hitparade knacken, bei unseren nördlichen Nachbarn waren sogar alle 12 Studioalben in den Charts notiert. Da kann man sich auf ein wahres Feuerwerk an Power Metal Hymnen einstellen was da zwischen Bürgerstock und Stanserhorn abgefeuert werden wird.

Die nächste Bestätigung lässt vorallem Symphonic Rock Fans mit der Zunge schnalzen. KALIDIA aus Italien mögen hier vielleicht noch nicht allzu bekannt sein, was sich nach dem Auftritt am UrRock vermutlich jedoch schlagartig ändern wird. Die Band aus Lucca (in der Nähe von Pisa) existiert zwar erst seit knapp 8 Jahren haben aber durch ihre Tourneen im Vorprogramm von Grössen wie Rhapsody Of Fire, Vision Divine oder Timo Tolkki einige Praxiserfahrung. Letzten November veröffentlichten sie dann mit The Frozen Throne ihr zweites Studioalbum bei ihrem neuen Label Inner Wound Recordings. Italien war schon immer ein Land von grossartigen klassisch angehauchten Rockbands. Genau diesem Ruf wird auch Kalidia gerecht. Zudem hat die Band noch eine weitere Waffe auf der Bühne in Form ihrer Frontfrau Nicoletta Rosellini.

International geht es weiter mit den Bestätigungen. Die nächste Band auf dem Billing hört auf den Namen DOCTOR VICTOR. Sie sind mir sympathisch weil sie genau zu meinem 50. Geburtstag einen Song namens Sexy Black veröffentlicht haben, was ja wohl sehr treffend ist. Doctor Victor kommen aus Prag und wurden 2012 gegründet. Das Trio konnte dann jedoch schon im Jahr darauf ihren ersten Preis am Hard Rock Rising Contest in der Tschechischen Republik einheimsen. 2014 wurden sie dann sogar zweite am Global Battle Of The Bands Finale in Thailand. Was ihnen auch keiner mehr nehmen kann, sie spielten auf der Rock The Bust Tour von AC/DC in deren Vorprogramm in Prag. Bandleader Victor hat übrigens auch ein Stipendiat am genommierten Berklee College of Music in Boston. Eine ausgewöhnliche Band die einen musikalischen Farbtupfer hinterlassen werden.

Aber es kommen ja auch Bands aus einheimischem Gefilde ans UrRock Musik Festival. So wurden mit SICKRET eine NuMetal Band verpflichtet die sich auf der Bühne heimisch fühlt. Die Bühne ist ihr zu Hause, den in nur gerade mal knapp 9 Jahren des Bestehens hat es die Band aus Sursee schon auf über 130 Konzerte gebraucht und dies nicht nur in der Schweiz, sondern in ganz Europa. Seit September 2018 ist auch ihr neues Album Trapped Behind Golden Bars auf dem Markt, ihr bereits drittes Studioalbum.

Als letzte Bestätigung am heutigen Tag wurden WIELANDER dem Billing hinzugefügt. Namensgebern Martin “Wielander” Wieland hat den wohl kürzesten Anreiseweg. Der Obwaldner wird seinen Heimvorteil bestimmt ausspielen, dies obwohl Stans in Nidwalden liegt. Rockmusik kennt jedoch bekanntlich keine Grenzen. Speziell an der Geschichte von Wielander resp. von Martin Wieland ist die Tatsache, dass er zusammen mit Organisator Patrick Jakober zuvor schon einige Jahre bei Dryburn gespielt hat, die sich meines Wissens 2014 aufgelöst haben. Zwischenzeitlich war Martin dann noch Mitglied der D.D.Dogz, und jetzt kommt es, diese Band habe ich damals in dem 90er Jahren als Sänger gegründet.

Die Hälfte der Bands sind nun also bekannt und die Verpflichtungen versprechen schon einiges. Hochkarätige Headliner und eine Stildurchmischung die keine Wünsche offen lässt und für jeden etwas zu bieten hat. Ich für meinen Teil bin ja jetzt schon gespannt wie ein Pfeilbogen wie dann die zweite Bandbestätigungswelle ausschaut und vorallem auf die beiden weiteren Headliner. Die Messlatte wurde im letzten Jahr schon hoch angesetzt und mit den ersten sechs Bands schon massiv übertroffen. Ich glaube es könnte eng werden im Senkel. Ich empfehle die Tickets möglichst früh zu organisieren und zwar hier. Also 25. und 26. Oktober 2019 muss fett im Kalender angestrichen werden.

Super proud of @teamkapp on their performance at #WJCC2022 Ate is super proud of her #Adings and have full faith in their abilities to build upon this year. It’s going to interesting finding out what the team will look like next season as Magnus & Klaudius age out of juniors and what effect if any home advantage will have since Füssen will host the next World Juniors. The Germans are more than capable of getting over the hump & getting that historic, elusive Worlds gold. Saint of the Day – 6 September – St Magnus of Füssen – Religious Priest, Monk, Abbot, Missionary, Spiritual student of Saint Columban and Saint Gall at Arbon (part of modern Switzerland) (Died in c 666? or 722? at the monastery at Füssen, Bavaria (in modern Germany) of natural causes).   Patronages – against caterpillars,• against hail or hailstorms,• against lightning,• against snakes,• against vermin,• for protection of crops.

St Magnus of was both a monk and a missionary. An interesting story involves him bringing reconciliation between St Gall and his master St Columban.   He is also venerated as one of the Holy Helpers invoked in time of plague such as the Black Death.

Monk of St Gall Magnus was a monk at St Gall.   One moving story involving him is that, on learning of the death of Columbanus whom Gall had refused to accompany to Bobbio in Italy, Gall sent Magnus to pray at Columbanus’s grave.   Magnus returned with St Columbanus’s staff which on his deathbed Columbanus had instructed to be given to Gall as a gesture of reconciliation in the quarrel which a few years before had separated them.   Magnus is said to have succeeded Gall after his death.

Missionary Invited by a priest of Augsburg, Magnus went with the support of Bishop Wichbert of that diocese to preach to the pagan people of the Allgäu region of Bavaria.   When he was left alone, Wichbert sent some young clerics to help him and these formed a monastic community later known as Sankt-Mung at Füssen, in Bavaria. Magnus helped the locals clear the land for cultivation and began a mining industry in a nearby mountain.

Death and influence

Magnus died after 26 years of missionary work and his relics were returned to St Gall. He is usually represented as treading on serpents.   He is also named as one of the fourteen Holy Helpers invoked against storms, insects, dragons and other disasters, such as the Black Death.

Saint of the Day – 6 September – St Magnus of Füssen – Religious Priest, Monk, Abbot, Missionary, Spiritual student of Saint Columban and Saint Gall at Arbon (part of modern Switzerland) (Died in c 666? or 722? at the monastery at Füssen, Bavaria (in modern Germany) of natural causes).    Patronages –

Magnus, auch Sankt Mang genannt, war vermutlich ein Rätoromane. Gemeinsam mit einigen Gefährten wurde er vom Bischof von Augsburg um 730 als Glaubensbote in das (heute) bayrische Allgäu gesandt. An der Stelle, wo jetzt die Stadt Füssen liegt, erbaute er am Ufer des Lech eine Zelle, aus der sich im Lauf der Zeit ein stattliches Kloster entwickelte. Es hatte sich herumgesprochen, der Fremde könne Wunder wirken; und so kamen bald Scharen von Hilfe Suchenden und Neugierigen zur Behausung des "heiligen Mannes". Die Legende erzählt, Magnus habe allein mit seinem Hirtenstab die Schlangen und Bären, die das Dorf Kempten bedrohten, vertrieben und einen gefährlichen Drachen bezwungen. - Der "Apostel des Allgäus" starb an einem 6. September um das Jahr 772. Er ist der Patron des Allgäus, Schutzheiliger des Viehs und gegen Würmer und Ungeziefer. FÜSSEN (BAVIERA)

Suele ser el broche de oro a la Ruta Romántica (Romantische Strasse), y centro de operaciones no solo para visitar los castillos de Luis II de Baviera, sino también para el amplio abanico de actividades con que disfrutar la montaña (el cercano Tegelberg), lagos, ríos y deslumbrante naturaleza. Asomada al río Lech desde un zócalo rocoso, con los Alpes al fondo, las casas medievales y barrocas se cobijan a los pies del castillo de los príncipes obispos de Augsburgo (ahora museo de pintura) y el monasterio benedictino de St. Magnus (que aloja otro museo).

La calle mayor (Reichenstrasse) mantiene el trazado de la Via Claudia Augusta romana, a cuya vera se alinean fuentes, iglesias y fachadas decoradas con pinturas en trampantojo. El claustro de St. Magnus acoge uno de los mercadillos navideños más pintorescos, con el castillo episcopal como telón de fondo.

Füssen es una ciudad de Alemania, dentro de la región de Suabia, en el estado federado de Baviera. Se encuentra al pie de los Alpes, muy cerca de la frontera con Austria.

La ciudad es mundialmente conocida por sus espectaculares castillos: Neuschwanstein y Hohenschwangau que se encuentran en las montañas a las afueras, y la enorme montaña próxima llamada Tegelberg (1870 m).

Tiene un interesante casco antiguo con sitios de interés como el palacio Alto de estilo gótico tardío, el monasterio Santo Mang, las casas con frontones medievales e idílicos lugares.

Prácticamente todo el invierno está cubierta de un manto blanco de nieve e incluso se llegan a helar los lagos que hay por esa zona.

Forma parte de la ruta romántica alemana.

El centro de Füssen, su estación de ferrocarril, así como sus carreteras y campiñas alrededores, fueron escenario en la famosa película La Gran Evasión, en la que unos prisioneros aliados consiguen escapar de su campo de concentración durante la II Guerra Mundial.
