Son of a Gun...

Now that I know it's been confirmed that Shinichi and Kaito are cousins, I'm dropping that ship faster than if it was molten lava in my hands.

Guess I'll stick with KaiAo (the canon ship for Kaito) and HakuKai (a very old ship of mine from elementary school).

But now I have a very good excuse to make even more found family Shinichi and Kaito stories. Imagine finding out that you have a cousin and he's a world-wide known thief while you are one of the best detectives in the modern day?

That's going to be a fun dynamic to play with.

So, i just reread dabis dance after like 4 years, i think? after seeing how it all plays out, indulging in fanwork, watching bits and pieces of the anime, I've learned something.

my takeaway is that touya is a dramatic little shit who loves musical theatre. the dude literally dances around while talking about how his father abused him.

The reason EAH is a children’s franchise is because only a child who Doesn’t Understand Things could possibly consider Royal being the right stance

#like the show will try to push that both rebels and royals have a point (case in point the whole ‘roybel’ thing) but it doesn’t work #because in the end it’s made clear which choice is right #like being royal is only shown to benefit the privileged with ‘good endings’ while being a rebel is for the benefit of everyone #and I’ve seen some claims that people can be royal by wanting their own destiny but letting others choose #but that specific line of thinking is present in maddie and cedar to some extant and they’re literally two of the main rebels in the series #identifying as a royal is saying ‘I think everyone has to follow their story no matter what ending they get’#and being a royal made sense when the idea of they’re being consequences for going against the stories was present #but those possible consequences are never really explored and in the end it turns out they’re isn’t any consequences actually #and then what’s the point of identifying either royal or rebel after the storybook pages get ripped out?#everyone chooses their own destiny but there isn’t really a system anymore anyways so both titles become devoid of meaning #so what’s the point of a character being a ‘rebel’? you’re not rebelling against the norm by choosing your own path #or believing others should because that’s what everyone gets now #and what’s the point of a character being a ‘royal’? the stories don’t have power anymore so what’s the point in everyone continuing #to play them out anymore other than maintaining status #the only people who have actual credibility for being royal are the fairies cause they’ll literally disappear but that only applies to othe #fairies and isn’t actually established in the show so how canon is it?#rotomtalks #ever after high #eah

not tagging the post because i'm not actually trying to start drama but...i find it Interesting that fans who saw the disappointment over s2 casting choices IMMEDIATELY turned to "well don't harass the [white] actors!" a) no one was calling for that, in my case i explicitly mentioned the casting directors and the neilman, b) where was this energy when Vanesu Samunyai got harassed? it's telling that the example is a white-passing man whose fans dug up his background as a gotcha for, again, nonwhite fans expressing frustration with how white (and yes, white-passing) characters are privileged over Black characters. i don't think the fandom OR netflix gets to pat themselves on the back because they cast nonwhite actors in ANY roles. i don't think the fandom should police how nonwhite fans feel or their expressions of frustration in public spaces. i don't actually think sandman is "so diverse"! i think it could be more diverse, and telling me and other nonwhite people to just settle for whatever we get is...well.

and her childhood best friend who she hasn’t seen since she was turned and almost killed her five years ago

in the wake of a string of murders, they’re forced to work together to find out how they’re linked, and investigate rumours of a cure

#this ravenous fate #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #sapphic books #I thought this was pretty decent! I thought the concept of the origin of vampires and how it discussed Black oppression and #treatment of vampires; and discussions of class privilege etc was interesting.#The main characters and their dynamic was great! I liked the friendships (though they fell off a bit…) and some of the family dynamics too.#I found the plot and pacing a bit all over the place though.#And I’m not sure how much is the writing and how much is the narration but I didn’t LOVE the writing.#The narrator doesn’t pause between POV switches which made it hard to keep track of sometimes.#I found a lot of the adults (/antagonists) a bit too cartoonishly evil? Though that might also be due to the narration -#eg after a whole scene of her dad yelling at her his voice is described as ‘steady & calm’ & I was like oh…..so not at all how that was act #It might have come across a bit more subtle and nuanced without such dramatic acting.#some of the lore was a little silly (like they age til they’re 25 then stop aging….ok sure)#but also sometimes with vampires the point is to lean into those aspects haha!#it reminds me of these violent delights - like obviously the enemy exes solving a supernatual murder in 1920s -#but also writing wise (both good and bad)#I think if you just want a good YA urban fantasy enemies to lovers with Black lesbians? if you wanted first kill to be a bit better?#then yeah check it out!

I finished Hazbin a bit ago and call me crazy but I honestly hope Sir Pentious' ascension had nothing to do with redemption as a concept.

I hope it was just a glitch in the matrix from like, the raw, holy power of Adam's laser blast + whatever magical artillery Pentious had revved up at the helm of his ship. I just think it would be VERY funny if Adam accidentally baptized some guy so hard he rebooted him to Heaven.

#hazbin hotel #I know they won't go this direction because they've got like four seasons planned and this would eliminate the show's ability to like #cycle through sinners as they're redeemed #which would kill the show's formula/momentum #but yeah Hazbin brought back memories of my Warriors AU about a cat trying to blunt force redeem her way into StarClan #and since hell and heaven became like...a metaphor for class stratification...cough #the main character ultimately realized she could never play the game well enough to get into StarClan #because the POINT of the game was to keep cats like her out of StarClan #when 'redemption' and 'sin' are defined by the privileged class...what does success within that system look like #so in the end the main character and a coalition of cats shift their focus away from 'redemption'#and towards community building in cat hell lol #like...providing support for their neighbors #with the goal of eventually overturning the game itself (as oppose to figuring out how to win)#That's a LONG way of saying I prefer redemption stories which interrogate the concept of redemption itself #...and come away with the conclusion that it's all bullshit lmao #totally a preference thing and I'll still enjoy Hazbin regardless
