Running Shoes/Making Mirrors Split - September 1968

Running Shoes is a post punk/emo band from Michigan.  Their side of this soon to be ubiquitous split record, September 1968, is comprised of two longer post punk songs that are home to some of their best group vocals from their bassist and drummer vocalists, and a shorter noodlier song with just guitar and vocals, sandwiched in the middle.  The final track though, I Finally Understand, is the stand out track on this record, composed of some of my favorite guitar work, vocals and lyrics, and song structuring, it simply has everything.  The whole side culminates in the best build and shouts when they promise, "it's ok to be scared."

I was not familiar with Making Mirrors before they did this split with Running Shoes (who I was very familiar with because they did a split with SRVVLST earlier in 2013).  Making Mirrors is a also post punk/emo band from Michigan, who draws a lot of influence from early/mid nineties post punk and emo bands, with plenty of heavy and crunchy guitar and slurry, whiny vocals.  Their side of September 1968 starts with two heavier but upbeat songs that sway on the punkier side of emo and finishes with a single classic sounding drony emo song.

As of yet this split has not been released in a physical form, but when it is, whether it is on cassette, vinyl, or a homemade CD-R with handwriting in marker, I suggest you pick it up because I definitely will.
