On that epic finale, fandom, and weddings...onscreen and off.

As I corral Harry Shum Jr. and Matthew Daddario around the Cosmo offices, Matt bounces on his heels, pointing to random objects—like a fancy golden coffee table and fuzzy pillows—asking me if he can bring them home with him (the answer is always "no"). Harry is much more calm, back straight and confident, happy to just laugh at his co-star.

It's jarring how their roles are almost the reverse of their characters: For the last three years on Freeform's hit series Shadowhunters (based on The Mortal Instruments, by Cassandra Clare). Matt played Alec Lightwood, the stoic half-angel leader with a heart of gold, while Harry embodied the eccentric Warlock Magnus Bane, always moving, portaling somewhere or changing his look...not to mention throwing shit around his beautiful New York apartment.

As they say, opposites attract, and Matt and Harry captured the hearts of the entire Shadowhunters fandom as a certified power couple. Malec has certainly had their share of rom-com moments (they share their first kiss when the warlock crashed Alec's first wedding) and dramatic breakups (don't remind me about 2X18). But last night, Shadowhunters gave Malec the happy ending they deserve, complete with gorgeous wedding and happily ever after as the Inquisitor of the Clave and High Warlock of Alicante.

A wedding finale is hardly unheard of in the TV world, bordering on cliché, but for Shadowhunters there was truly no other option. The union of a strong gay man and proud bisexual has been the cornerstone of this fandom throughout its run, inspiring countless LGBTQ+ fans and landing a GLAAD Award for Outstanding Drama (not to mention sweeping the 2018 People's Choice Awards the same year as its premature cancellation). How else do you celebrate their legacy, if not by throwing a giant party and giving our boys one more showstopping kiss?

Of course, as surreal as it is to discuss the end of Shadowhunters with the ship to end all ships, it's even tougher for them to say goodbye. Here, Matt and Harry talk about the Malec wedding, balancing fandom with real life, and why Alec had to stay mortal.

The Malec Wedding

Tell me about the wedding. You’ve built this relationship for three years now, and you’ve seen how massively people have reacted—what did it feel like to give them that milestone?

Harry Shum Jr.: It had to happen. It was a great moment to bring everyone in and say, "Look at this joyous moment."

It was nice to have everybody back on-set. It really felt both, for the show itself and for us as a whole, that this was a great ending. Because it was the last thing we filmed. I'm happy that we got these two episodes so that we could do it because it would have been really unfortunate if the fans hadn't gotten that wedding. And then fans can play in their heads now, Magnus and Alec are married and doing whatever.

Matthew Daddario: You know, it's like the end of a chapter.

Harry: We're safe now.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but Alec is just a Shadowhunter still? He's not immortal.

Matt: Just a Shadowhunter? [Laughs] Yes, I am.

Some fans were really rooting for Immortal Husbands...like, intensely. How do you feel about this?

Matt: This is the thing I always have trouble understanding is that people want the immortality. And this is a topic that's been written about and discussed for thousands of years, and everyone comes to the same conclusion: the curse of immortality. It is not always the best thing in the world to live forever. In fact, that's close to this kind of a godliness that is considered almost like a living hell.

For Magnus, he's living and living in this endless loop without the repercussion of the totality of life. And if Magnus was instead mortal, would we not celebrate their wonderful life? But it's because he's immortal, we worry about what happens after the fact.

Matt: Right. You can get killed. They're immortal, and then they get the shot off the top of the castle walls, and you're like, "Whoa, that's screwed up." But at the same time, every mortal has to deal with that. [Turns to Harry] So it's not your mortality that you're upset about when you first lost your powers. You're not upset about the mortality, you're upset about the loss of your identity.

Harry: But here’s the difference: It’s not the immortality that you get shot and you can’t die.

Some fans just want Malec on an even playing field. But I find it really sad that Alec would have to live and lose like Jace and Izzy—

Matt: Right. Magnus lost people constantly, and he was kind of a shell of a person at one time. Up until meeting Alec, he's filling his life with debauchery, anything to heighten the senses. And, you know, trying to find places where he can take care of people. And he does get involved with helping vampires because they're immortal as well. There is a kind of emptiness to him in the first season.

Harry: No, for sure. And I think then there is the big switch.

Did you get emotional reading the final episode?

Harry: Everyone did at the table read. One of our producers reading off the narration, he couldn't even get through and actually walked out and someone had to take over. And then there was this silence in the end when the last words were spoken. I think that silence spoke volumes.

Has the end of Shadowhunters hit home for you yet?

Matt: I think it will hit me when I don't think about it for a week. If one week passes without me thinking about Shadowhunters, I will say, "Shit."

We think about it every day. This is a huge part of our lives. This is three years of this. And this show, it's a hit. People are talking about it, people from around the world. It's hard to deny that.

Will you still engage with Shadowhunters stans, or are you emotionally ready to move on to another world?

Matt: Look, we're done filming Shadowhunters, but the fans of the show are always welcome to ask questions and all that kind of stuff. But eventually, we're going to run out of new answers.

I'm always happy to talk to a Shadowhunters fan because they are enthusiastic, they care about what they're talking about, and many of them have built friendships off of it, so it matters to them, and therefore it matters to me.

Harry: Because you gave a part of your life.

Matt: Your job is to have an effect on people, and therefore you have a certain responsibility to engage with the people who are affected by this. You can choose not to, you could choose to go completely incognito or to ignore it, but to dismiss it is, frankly, insulting and kind of silly and maybe slightly narcissistic.

But I think that you do need to have an understanding that you're not any different or special because of this involvement with culture. And why would you want to be miserable about it? Why wouldn't you embrace it?

Matt, you kept your own wedding a secret until your one-year anniversary. Was it harder to keep the details of the finale secret or your wedding?

Matt: [Laughs] It was definitely easier to keep the wedding secret. I just told everyone no one's allowed to take photos. And people did a pretty good job with that.

Harry: Yeah, sometimes I think it's a nice...regardless of what your profession is, but particularly ours, to have something just for yourself.

Matt: Not to say that people don't deserve to know, but I think that anybody would feel like, hey, I would like this moment just to be mine for a little bit.

People can be a little bit demanding. One time this girl is walking down the street, I'm walking down the street, she's on the phone, it's the middle of the day, she's FaceTiming somebody.

She sees me, she stops me by the touching me on the shoulder and says, "Oh, whoa, wait, look! Look who's here!" and hold the phone up like this and goes, "Crazy!" and then keeps walking. And I'm like, fuck you. Like, what the fuck?! [Laughing] You don't do that to someone.

It just felt so invasive. It just feels a little bit like, you're not a human. You're the thing I see on TV. But I guess it's just excitement, whatever.

You obviously know about the #SaveShadowhunters campaign. What would you say if suddenly, some other network wanted to pick up the show?

Harry: I think it's a conversation. You know, we love playing these characters. But as time passes, things change. Like introducing a baby into your life, or whatever the next phase is.

But it's also a wonderful group of people. So, of course, instead of saying, "Absolutely not," it's definitely open for conversation for me.

Matt: Honestly, the ending is successful. And, you know, there's a danger now. What if you screw it up? [Laughs]

things about the sizzy proposal that just make sense (read: make me absolutely feral):

the fact that they have only been solidly together for like two (2) years at this point, and yet because of the trials that they went through just to be together, it was enough to prove (i'm looking at izzy here especially) that this love was something worth fighting the rest of their lives for. just let that sink in.. clace and malec have each been together for around 5 years at this point. yeah, sizzy got together in tmi, but they didn't dtr til the end, and then immediately afterward they were pulled apart and slammed back together and spent time disentangling themselves before they finally got together again almost 2.5 years after edom (!!), only for grief to come barreling out of left field. basically, what i'm saying is.. they didn't have the chance to grow and develop over the years the way their friends did. and the fact that simon asked izzy to marry him, and the fact that she said YES, in spite of that??? just shows how solid and true and deserving their love is

they way simon proposed on the brooklyn bridge--the first bridge built to cross the east river between brooklyn and manhattan. i've always seen the two boroughs as very representative of the two different worlds at play in tmi (i.e. simon's mundane life and izzy's shadowhunter one), and the beauty of sizzy, is that they are like quintessential examples of the lives each belongs to at the beginning of the series. and as they get to know each other and grow together and begin to care more and more about the other's world, it creates this metaphorical bridge that stands as a perfect acknowledgement of two people meeting each other in the middle. AND AND AND the bk bridge was the first bridge between the two. and sizzy was technically the first to get engaged of the three couples in tmi that spanned the east river. AND AND AND when you think of malec being centered in greenpoint and clace on the upper east side it's like.. idk it just feels so right for this question to be asked and answered between the two. (i feel like this point alone could go on forever so i will move on)

they were literally fighting demons when simon impulsively asks her to marry him. like 'fuck it there's no one else for me i need you in my life forever and there's no use waiting to see what could happen between now and the future because the future isn't guaranteed and clearly we could die at any moment i mean how many times have we been surrounded by demons and shadowhunter lives are so short and you are everything to me. please marry me. please stay with me for as long as we have.' [insert op fainting]. and it just shows that what izzy values and finds important, the purpose of her life, is exactly what simon loves about her. and this has always been clear. everything izzy is. everything she lives and breathes for.. simon wants to breathe that air too just because it means something to isabelle. it's like him telling her her rune and battle scars are beautiful and a part of her he would never change. like he doesn't want anything from her except for her to be isabelle.

Alec understands the importance of security.

He’s the Interim Head of the New York Institute and he knows better than most the dangers of politics and power.

That doesn’t mean he can fully stop himself from bristling as he’s approached by the High Warlock’s security.  He allows their scrutiny as he waits, he even allows their approach.  Nods in acceptance when they say they require a pat down, even after he has visibly eased them by coming without physical weapons.

Then the one in back steps forward and instead of beta, Alec smells alpha.

It’s strong and pungent and before the man’s hand has even touched him, Alec has lunged forward.  He’s nearly unaware of himself as he does it, only concentrates on the taste of copper on his tongue.  Salt and iron wash away the too strong scent of Alpha and that forever feral part of him calms just a bit.

His hand replaces his mouth and he wrenches back the fingers that dared try to touch him. Alec steps back and spits blood on the floor just as the alpha crashes down, biting back screams.

That,” he says with teeth stained red, his tongue dragging across the sharp edges of his canines, “was rude.  I didn’t realize the High Warlock of Brooklyn allowed those under his name to take such liberties.” 

There’s a familiar, shocked pause.  

No one ever expects a shadowhunter to attack with anything but weapons.  They have their adamas, why debase themselves by acting without it.

Alec has no such qualms and it’s clear, from the blood dripping down his chin to the way his head tilts, a quiet judgement. 

A subtle taunt.

It’s faint, but Alec almost feels that he can hear a deep chuckle.  It’s impossible, the music is far too loud and no one around him has spoken.  

“I,” the beta hesitates, clearly unsure of just what to do next.  She rocks on her feet, by downworld laws, Alec had every right to do what he did.  They all know that.

“Do you still need to search me,” Alec asks, smiling at her as he does.  It’s not a nice smile, bloodlust still too close to the surface, but he is still a diplomat. This is an olive branch they don’t deserve from him personally, but shadowhunters as a whole owe the downworld much more than this simple courtesy.  

She takes a moment to decide whether or not it's safe.  If her job is worth it and just as she visibly steels herself and steps forward, a flash of fire ignites before her and she catches it from the air.  

There’s an imperceptible sigh as she lets out a breath of air she doesn’t need.  “The High Warlock will allow you to approach without a physical search,” she hesitates.  “If you allow him to use magic to do it instead.”

It is both a test and a boon.

Alec has no wish to be felt up by anyone, though he can generally tolerate non-alphas. However most shadowhunters would consider the magic far worse a fate.

Alec is not most shadowhunters.

“I appreciate his consideration and accept his terms.” 

She smells both shocked and relieved as she leads him to the dais. 

There’s no time to wipe the blood from his face and Alec resigns himself to the tacky feeling of it drying as it drips down his neck.

At the very least, he knows it won’t stain his clothes.

Alec licks his lips as he gets closer to Bane. The taste of mundane pennies and dirty iron is still on his lips and he hides the smugness of his victory behind a calm demeanor. From the wary way his fae escort glances at him, he doubts he’s being as sly as he hopes.

Alec swallows down the taste of blood and regrets his actions the moment he inhales Bane’s scent. It’s gone from an opaque nothingness to feeling like he’s breathing in fire. Heat crawls down his spine and he does his best not to inhale again, feeling a bit like a fool when he opens his mouth to greedily take in air rather than risk the dizziness that comes with scenting Bane.

Bane is also an omega.

A gorgeous, powerful, omega whose scent makes Alec’s thoughts blur and whose casual arrogance is far more attractive than it should be. Alec thinks it’s because it’s not arrogance, just confidence.

Alec doubts that Bane ever suffers fools or that he has to react as basely as Alec did. He very much believes that even one look of disdain from Bane would be enough to leave even the most powerful and arrogant of Idris alphas quaking.  The thought makes him wet his lips unconsciously and he shifts as he gets closer.

“Sit down, Alexander was it?” Bane asks him and Alec nods, caught in the shock of how good his name sounds when it’s Bane who says it.

Alec sits and shudders, trying not to be distracted when his knee accidentally brushes Bane’s thigh.

He doesn’t know when he got close enough for them to be touching but he knows it’s impolite and he tries to move back only to feel his back hit the arm of the sofa.

So he stays, where he is and tries to figure out how to explain what it is he needs without being completely distracted and overwhelmed.

Meanwhile Magnus is quite enjoying himself.

Hid pretty omega shadowhunter has been too distracted by Magnus own personal everything to realize that Magnus’ magic has closed the distance between them. Blue crackling along the leather to shrink the  down the sofa until there is nowhere for his guest to go.

He’s been intrigued since the moment he felt angelic energy enter his wards. Alone and clearly with a purpose.

A lone omega shadowhunter in Magnus’ territory, without guard or weapon who reacted to an alpha being rude with violence. Magnus had been delighted even before he’d seen the shadowhunter in person or had a taste of his scent.

Now Magnus is ecstatic.

 “You’ll understand if I use magic, to ensure that you’re unarmed and come in good faith.” Magnus asks, a smirk on his lips as his shadowhunter, Alexander, nods.

His tentacles are glamoured and he only allows two to reach out, to start from Alexander’s calves, where his boots end and encircling the muscles there before sliding up. They take their time, encircling strong thighs and Magnus is disappointed by the thick material that makes him unable to feel skin beneath his touch. Instead he contents himself, invisible tentacles tugging aside a leather jacket and cheating by sliding up a loose shirt. Alexander startles visible at that, biting his own lips and turning in confusion to look at Magnus before settling.

Whatever it is that his institute needs, it’s important enough that he came alone and Magnus is going to make sure it’s worth both of their while.

Magnus takes his time scoping out Alexander’s chest, one tentacle sliding through coarse hair and the other slipping around behind to tap up Alec’s spine. The meet at the top, encircling around Alexander’s neck and rubbing teasingly at the scent glands there.

Coincidentally, they also smear the blood drying on his neck across said glands.

Alexander’s eyes go wide and his neck shakes as he swallows, trying not to let himself be overly affected, but he never tries to pull away. His eyes are blissed out and he’s swaying towards Magnus helplessly, as if he’s unable to keep himself away.

Magnus purrs and sends out a little pulse of warm magic to seep into Alexander’s muscles as he offers his hand.

Bane reaches out his hand and Alec gives him his own without thinking. It’s bloody still, his skin sticky and his fingers covered in blood.

“Allow me,” Bane says, “as it was one of my employees who pushed you to defend yourself.”

Alec doesn’t know how to respond, he just nods his head. He expects Bane to either magic it away, or offer him a tissue. He’s not expecting a burgundy stained mouth to wrap around one of his fingers. Nor is he expecting the electric jolt that goes through him. Or that when he instinctively moves away, he’s unable to. He’d forgotten about the magic holding him down. The thick, invisible ropes of magic that even now tease at his scent glands and he swallows harshly.

He swallows again when Bane moves on to the next finger and then the next. When he licks over Alec’s palm, the cool metal of piercing on his tongue making Alec shiver and then again when that same metal presses against the underside of his wrist.

“There, much more presentable, aren’t you.” Bane tells him, a smirk on his mouth and something darkly appreciative gleaming in his eyes as he watches Alec. “Oh, but I seemed to have missed a spot.”

The hand on Alec’s wrist tugs and he follows, there’s a moment of confusion in his head and he can’t help that he whimpers when he realizes he’s in Bane’s lap. He’s so close to him. Too close for him to keep his thoughts clear and it gets worse when Bane leans forward and licks over his neck. Alec knows that he’s just cleaning away the blood but it doesn’t feel like that. It doesn’t feel like that at all and his knees clamp against the thigh he’s straddling. 

“Almost done,” he’s told and then lips smeared with rogue and blood are pressed to his, a tongue licking over his split and bloody lips and Alec shudders. There are no words he can say. Both because any he tries are swallowed by Bane’s kiss and because he can’t form them.

It’s too much and not enough and everything he’s never realized he wanted, or needed.

Magnus has a thought, something in the back of his mind that goes ‘this one. This one is different, this one. And now, with the taste of Alexander’s blood under his tongue, he knows what it is.

This one is his.

Magnus lets Alexander settle against him and brushes his fingers through the hair on the nape of Alexander’s neck and tugs a little.

There’s a whimper, soft and pleading when he takes his lips away and he smirks to himself against the skin of Alec’s jaw.

“Bane-” Is a breathless word spoken and he nips at Alec’s cheek in reprimand, earning an even more gasping, “Magn’s?”

Magnus croons in pleased delight and drags his magic and tentacles across Alexander’s body and his soul and chuckles at the groan it earns him and the little keen Alexander lets out.

It’s a beautiful sound but the rest of the club feel more than hear it. The natural pleasure that seeds the atmosphere with potential violence only comes from a content, pleased omega purring to a mate.

As Alexander is purring for Magnus.

I started a really fucking awesome supernatural horror that took place in rural Maine for Wolfstar as well as actually a Fae/WWII au (inspired by the Bastogne episode of BOB) that I will not be finishing for... reasons.

The ringing in Remus’ ears is so loud he almost doesn’t hear Sirius. There’s a sharp pain on his tongue, rot and muck coating his taste buds. He cannot breathe, his hands shake. He thinks he may be making a noise. In his head there is a voice. His mothers his voice except he doesn't have a mother does he? Not since he was seventeen and whole. His mother’s voice crooning in his ear as she once did around the green 1960’s kitchen.

There’s a bird who sits on a tower. There’s a bird who sits on a tower - who sits on a tower, with beady eyes so clever.

Where did that scar come from?

“А bird who sits on a tower…” He mutters. 

“Pardon?” Sirius asks, snapping Remus out of his thoughts. 

He starts. 

The cabin is up ahead, peeking between the snowy trees like a warm wooden refuge and even at the sight of it Remus feels an uncurling of nerves in his gut. His flesh settles back onto his bones and the ringing eases back to a manageable level. He watches a sodden bloody bee drag her dying body across the dashboard. 

“Cults...you were saying?” - Factis ut credam facis

“Hello there Sir Raven.” He says with a chuckle “I don’t suppose you’re one of the King’s are you? Or Churchill perhaps. That would be quite a long way to travel.” 

Sirius puffs up his feathers and clacks his beak at the Man because even though he didn’t quite understand what the Man meant, he knew a compliment when he heard one. Bravely, he hops closer, the warnings of his parents and even of James ringing in his ears. But the shiny thing is dangling free and curious from the Man's neck and he must know what it is. 

“Haha. What a handsome fellow, handsome indeed. Much more well fed than we all are.” The Man laughs, setting aside his Paper and rummaging around in his Clothes. “Still, I bet pickings are getting a bit slim nowadays, even for a clever old Raven. Have you had digestives before?” 

He holds out a hand, nearly as large as Sirius himself and as elegant and pretty as the branches of a willow. All of the Man was like a tree, sharp lines and slightly less sharp curves. There was something in his hand, sweet-smelling and crumbly. Sirius turns his head first one way then the other, regarding the hand with both beady eyes as the warnings of his people ring in his ears. James' voice be careful plays at the forefront and he shakes out his wings in irritation. Man would catch him. Man would hurt him. Capture him and take him away never to be seen again like his Uncle Alphard. Man did not understand magic and magic did not like Man and so Sirius too, did not like Man. Men who burned and tore apart forests, who killed his kinfolk and killed animals and killed each other. And really, Sirius just wanted to understand. It could not be this man, with his quiet words and his offer of food who had destroyed his people. Surely there were other men, cruel men, who had done this and so it would be okay for Sirius to be brave and a little bold. 

“That’s a handsome old boy.” The Man whispers. 

Well that does it then, surely no evil Man would notice how beautiful I am. He must be like my other man with the Paper. Sirius thinks, leaping into the air just long enough to snatch the prize from the Man’s hand and retreat far enough away to devour the sweet treat with his clever beak. It was delicious, dry and crumbly and so sweet that it makes him shiver. 3. Thomastair - I had a hard time deciding if they are nr 3 or 4 but I feel like I prefer them slightly more than nr 4 BECAUSE Alastair is so incredibly brave. After all that happened with his father, he still did everything to protect Cordelia and Sona. His character development is one of the best in the whole tsc. And Thomas my sweet summer child 😭 his kindness is out of this world. TO THIS DAY I remember those fucking Paris dates 😭😭😭😭

4. Malec - Cc can really write her mlm couples. Their devotion to each other 🥺 I will forever remember that Alec was the first shadowhunter Magnus ever dated because well he was a Downworlder but Alec saw so much more in him 😭 ok I'm gonna keep this short cause it will take me forever to answer 🤣

5. Gracetopher - YES I KNOW IT DIDN'T HAPPEN BUT IT HAPPENED IN MY HEART. In my mind my little asexual genius couple live happily ok? Grace is such a misunderstood character, she's a child of abuse, she was made to do so many bad things, manipulated as hell but she still wanted to change and be good. And Christopher 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 MY POOKIE I CAN'T SPEAK ABOUT HIM CAUSE I'M GONNA CRY

6. Jordelia - Cordelia was, is and always will be THE bad bitch. The ending of chain of gold when she told EVERYONE that she and James were fucking? ICOOONIC. But she's the bravest baby ever. James is this cute and gentle young man but in reality he will kill you 😍 they complete each other PERFECTLY, the tension between them in chain of iron changed me as a person, I will never be the same. ALTHOUGH they would be so much higher if not for chain of thorns... Like... This book just destroyed so many things I can't ☠️

7. Blackstairs - The tension between them when Emma was "dating" Mark, oh good god glorious. You know, Julian actually reminds me so much of James but he's SO MUCH MORE DISASTROUS, he's a fucking menace and I love that. His sexy brain did things to me 😎 Emma, my second bad bitch (I guess Cortana wielders are all that way) killing a Rider of Mannan??? I'm a goner for girl fighters. MY NEXT JACE HERONDALE. Julian will forever need Emma and Emma will forever need Julian 💕

8. Markkierantina - My poly cuties 🥺 it was the same as with herongraystairs, I couldn't decide if I want Mark with Cristina, Mark with Kieran or Kieran with Cristina, but cc corrected her mistake with herongraystairs and made them all smash. Amazing. Cristina was a key to make Mark and Kieran's relationship work, that's all I'm gonna say

9. Clace - That will probably surprise some of you but I kinda lost this clace magic along the way of reading tsc. I absolutely love them as characters and Jace is one of the funniest bitches. Idk, I don't feel it as much as I used to. But well I was 13 when I read tmi and now I'm 23 so 🤣 I still remember that 4-6 tmi books broke me emotionally so I have this great sentiment for Clace but we have many more couples that I love more 🥺

10. AriAnna - I fell in love with them when I read gotsm and I rooted for them SO HARD in cog and coi, I couldn't get enough of that tension. And then cot happened.... It felt like cc just decided to drop them, gave them an easy ending just to get rid of them... So I was greatly disappointed. And I know that if not for cot they would be higher

11. LucieJessie - Honesty (and I say this with great sadness) I was bored reading their story in cog and coi, they were just so bland to me, I don't know 😭 BUT cot made everything change. When Jessie came back to life he was SO FUN TO READ I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!! I loved them and I'm sad that it wasn't like that from the beginning

Rafael!” Magnus screamed as he broke into the apartment, almost stepping on poor Chairman who was waiting for him by the door. “Rafael!”

“What happened?” Rafael, who was seated at the dining table, a highlight between his teeth, asked patiently.

Magnus put down his bag with a thud. “You will never believe what happened.”

“Uncle Raph finally followed you back on Instagram,” Rafael guessed.

“Why would you remind me of that?” Magnus pouted. “But no. This even better.”

“Oh?” the boy raised an eyebrow.

Magnus exhaled deeply and twirled around. “Alec kissed me.”

“What?” Rafael squealed. “He did?”

“Yes!” Magnus squealed too. “Can you believe it? I’ve been sending that idiot signals for months now!”

“Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god,” Rafael started to hyperventilate. “I have been waiting for this day forever.”

“Me too!” Magnus sighed dramatically. “Oh, Rafe. It still feels like a dream.”

“You have to tell me everything!” the boy ordered, pushing his books away. “No. Draw me a picture.”

okay so this take place the hypothetical situation when malec doesn't get back together at the end of cohf and alec goes on some blind dates that just turn out sour and end up meeting magnus and they have a good time together. then they just dating without the pretense (bonus point if magnus been the one sabotaging alec blind date with the weirdest most extra gimmicks)

“Maybe, I’m not meant for this.”

“For what?”

“This whole dating thing,” Alec says in a hushed whisper.

They’ve been laughing and drinking for the past two hours so Magnus is a little surprised by this change in conversation.

“What do you mean, darling?” They’re not dating but Alec is used to the endearment and Magnus likes calling him darling.

They both pretend like it’s normal to do that.

“Well, I’ve gone on thirteen dates in the past three months and shit hasn’t worked out for me. Maybe I’m just not a date-able person,” Alec sighs.

“That’s not true,” Magnus says indignantly, “You are the most date-able person I have met.”

Alec lets out a dry laugh at that. “Funny you said that. It didn’t work out with you so shouldn’t you be first in line to agree to my hypothesis,” Alec avoids Magnus’s gaze while looking, and it sends a pant through Magnus’s heart because he can see the other man’s emotions fully on his face.

It’s a face filled with dejection and hurt.

And so much sadness.

Sadness that Magnus has caused.

By breaking up with him—not that Magnus regrets the breaking up part, well, not completely at least.

But the sabotaging all of Alec’s date part.

He’s an asshole.

“You were a great boyfriend,” Magnus puts a hand on Alec’s in a comforting gesture, “and as the only person who has ever dated you, my words should be written in gospels.”

“Forgot the part where I tried to take your immortality away and you left me in the tunnels?” Alec throws back, a little sharply this time but there’s instant regret in his eyes.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I deserved what happened,” the shadowhunter apologised and then suddenly got up. “I should leave.”

“Alec, wait—“ Magnus takes Alec’s wrist in his hand, to stop him from leaving.

Alec continues to avoid his gaze and Magnus doesn’t get the change in atmosphere. They were having such a nice time. It seems normal.

Like they are dating again.

Which is weird because they’re not. They’re not even in the ballpark of dating.

Magnus just almost, always, coincidentally happens to be at the same place where Alec goes through one of his date.

And sweet and gentle and innocent Alec never even questions it. Never wonders why that is. Never doubts Magnus even in the slightest.

And that makes him feel like a horrible person because Alec has so much faith in him.

“I don’t think this guy is coming. He’s already two hours late. I don’t want to waste your time, I should leave.”

“We can go back to my place and watch something and gossip about this guy.” Magnus says with a grin, trying to lighten up the mood.

Alec gives him a small smile before shaking his head.

“I’m not really feeling it tonight. I think I’m done with this dating thing for a while.”

He hates that the words make him feel good.

Makes him feel relief.

Relief that Alec won’t be seeing or meeting or kissing or smiling at someone else.

But the pain on Alec’s face takes away all of that relief.

Tell him. Tell him. Tell him.

Tell him that’s he’s the most date-able person.

That’s he’s the most gentlest and softest person Magnus has ever met in all four hundred years.

That no one in the entire world, past or present or future timelines can love as well as Alec Lightwood.

“You shouldn’t give up on love, Alec.” Magnus says quietly.

Alec shifts closer and places the gentlest of kisses on his cheeks, and Magnus knows that very second that he’s going to feel the touch for days.

I want go see the world burn honestly. I said this already but I want Eloana and Malec to have this resentful attitude where they trow beef at everything the other says. And plus Valyn because I know my man will have eloana's back against everything. Besides, I can see Malec don’t liking Valyn not because he wants Eloana back or something but I believe Malec gives vibes of being that type of man that believes his dick changes a woman’s life forever so the fact that she remarried, moved on, had a life and named someone else king??? I think he would be like “this fucking idiot who he think he is, i am a god i am so much better than he him” bla bla bla and then Valyn, as I said he is always there for eloana plus he said he believed that Malec did not deserve her love so I don’t think Valyn likes Malec either, he probably recents him for what he did to his beloved wife (honestly same valyn)

I hope we get at least a snake peak of Sera and Isbeth

If a remember correctly, Nyktos and Sera knew where Malec was entombed and they actually had guards guarding the entrance yet they did not take him of his entombment do I wonder if Malec knows that or if he will find out at some point, I think this will be tense too, and again I don’t think they can just pretend nothing happened

lmol analysis Malec Version from Taylor's TTPD (again this is the breakup period) I have many feelings "Oh, what a valiant roar What a bland goodbye The coward claimed he was a lion" This is the line that reminds me of Alec the most, he tried so hard to be brave, to be sure of and to commit to his relationship with Magnus. But he was so scared after all, all those years of repressing his identity and putting himself second weren't just going to go away, and he caved under Camille's temptation and manipulation. Not enough to be a betrayal, but just wavered enough to hurt his lover's heart. "In your suit and tie, in the nick of time You lowdown boy, you stand up guy Holy Ghost, you told me I'm The love of your life" THIS. THIS IS SO ALEC. Throughout the course of his relationship with Magnus and the war, he grew from a moody insecure teenager to someone who was responsible, braver, honest and much more happy with himself. Granted, he still had his insecurities, but just imagine Magnus looking at Alec in a suit at some formal event and noting how much he's grown "When your impressionist paintings of Heaven Turned out to be fakes Well, you took me to hell, too" I interpret this line as Alec's Nephilim lineage supposedly being superiorly holy, yet rendering him unable to be himself. This pains Magnus, because when the supposedly morally superior Shadowhunter turns out not be morally perfect, when the one you love most hurts you because he is weak in the places that you are weak too, that hurts. "You said I'm the love of your life About a million times" *sobs* "You talked me under the table Talking rings and talking cradles I wish I could un-recall How we almost had it all" THIS. THIS. I DONT KNOW HOW I WILL COME BACK FROM THIS. THANK GOD IT DIDNT STAY TRUE but they almost had it all *screams* Magnus I bet you talked about that under the table Imagine Alec just trying to get over how he almost had the love of his life Some comparisons- "I felt aglow like this Never before and never since" *gasp* the semi-loveatfirstsight at the party "But I felt a hole like this Never before, and ever since" YOU KNOW WHO FELT A HOLE YOU KNOW WHICH TWO PEOPLE FELT HOLES??? EVER SINCE A BREAKUP AND 'NOT LIKE THIS' BEFORE??? "If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary You and I go from one kiss to gettin married" "If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary What we thought was for all time was momentary" This line kills me. Magnus really considered being together with Alec forever (or ending his own mortality), and it just poof went away. And it would have seemed so short compared to the lifetime he lived, but WE ALL KNOW HOW TORN HE WAS OVER IT

"Dancing phantoms on the terrace Are they second-hand embarrassed That I can't get out of bed?" Magnus TAT TAT TAT he definitely couldn't get out of bed, and was definitely feeling like a failure for fumbling his 500 year old younger lover

"You cinephile in black and white All those plot twists and dynamite Mr. Steal your girl boy, then make her cry" Who's a cinephile and who's full of plot twists and winding stories and stole Alec's heart? A certain warlock, I think. High-key stole Alec when he was hung up on Jace. Also though I support Magnus for going no-con during breakup period, Alec probably had anxiety over his phone like the second-most in the entire series(the first being Jace bc his parabatai is trying to get himself killed every two seconds). I can't how many time bby boy was just pining over his phone

"Who's gonna tell me the truth When you blew in with the winds of fate And told me I reformed you" Alec really didn't know the weight of a relationship with an immortal entailed. Izzy and Jace and Clary all thought the relationship was great for him, which it was, to help him grow into a better person, but, no one could have warned him about the looming anxiety of becoming an insignificant piece in Magnus' long line of histories. And Magnus definitely told Alec how much he meant to him, but like Alec rightfully called him out on, didn't want to talk about the obvious gap between what Alec knew and what Magnus had experienced.

DO YOU REMEMBER THEM HUH!HOW HE DREAMT OF FIRE?? and boy does Magnus have somber eyes and their relationship went up in flames before the war started "And I'll still see it until I die You're the loss of my life"

WAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH I've said it before and I'll say it again. If one of them had somehow not survived during the war, or not have gotten back together after, they would be the loss of each other's life. This would be for Alec's mortal life and Magnus' immortal one. I said, "I don't mind, it takes time" I thought I was better safe than starry-eyed Alec, when he first met Magnus; or Magnus, when his eye was caught. They both were cautious, and were both willing to try it out slow. I don't think any of them expected it to go as far as it did, BUT THEY COULDNT HELP IT "Who's gonna stop us from waltzing Back into rekindled flames? If we know the steps anyway" YES. Please do so. Honestly I don't think even if they were still broken up after war, they could've resisted getting back together in the following years. But thank the Angel that wasn't the case. I rest my case.

Your Current Fandom(s): Shameless is my current active fandom, but like, you never really leave a fandom, you just get distracted by a new shiny thing. There’s still Merlin (2008) and Shadowhunters (2015) fic open on my phone right this minute. And I go back and read some of my favourite fic from much older fandoms on a semi regular basis. I have hundreds of them saved in word. Because if you love something… don’t let it go! Save the ever-loving shit out of it and keep it on your current laptop as well as on multiple external hard drives for back up!!

How did you first get into fandom? I was looking for someone to talk to, and that wasn’t going to happen in real life. So instead I found myself on a German Buffy Forum, which led me to discover fandom, online friends, and fanfic… all of which changed my life forever.

How long have you been engaging with fandom spaces? Probably since 1998? It was during Buffy Season 1, but when it aired on German TV, so 98/99 sounds about right. I DEFINITELY lied to the ‘are you over 18?’ ticky boxes!!

How often do you read fanfics? Daily. I used to be that kid that would walk to and from school with her nose in a book. Now I’m that adult that walks to and from school reading fanfic on her phone.

Top 3 characters from your current fandom(s): Mickey Milkovich. Ian Gallagher. Lip Gallagher.

Have you ever written a fic for a fandom? if so, shout it out! I have. I’m not primarily a writer, but about once a year I get the urge. Here’s my AO3. Also, if you search very hard you may be able to find some German Buffy/Spike fic out there somewhere, from when I was a child, proof read by my mother, whose main comment was ‘Oh my. You could have a career in erotica…’ (They barely kissed! Sheesh!)

Have you ever drawn fanart for a fandom? Yep. Back in the day I did the full range: Drawings, Icons. Wallpapers. Manips. Fic Banners. Fic Awards. Now I mostly stick with traditional art, and then once a year pumpkins haha Some of my recent stuff is on AO3. You can also find a lot of my art on my RedBubble Page or my Instagram.

Share a personal headcanon that you feel very strongly about: For Shameless? The Gallaghers visited Ian and Mickey in prison. Yes, they are busy, but they love their brother, and by extension they love the person their brother loves! And there is loads of them!! If they visited on rotation, it would only really “cost” them one day a month each. Not a hardship, is it? Also, Lip went more often than everyone else. Send tweet.

You’re trying to convince a friend to get into your current fandom(s) with you. what episode, clip, or scene are you showing them? Depends a little bit on the friend and on what aspect of a show I feel they’d vibe with best. 01x03 Aunt Ginger is a pretty good one. It’s got the full family working together to solve a problem. And it introduces Mandy and the itty bitty murder floof, which is a great bonus!!

And finally, what does fandom mean to you? Absolutely everything. You know Penny Lane’s speech in Almost Famous? “If you never take it seriosuly, you never get hurt, you never get hurt, you always have fun, and if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends.”? I followed bands around for about half a decade, and that, and Oasis’ “Please don’t put your life in the hands, of a rock and roll band, who'll throw it all away” were things I tried to live by. But fandom doesn’t work that way. Fandom is all about emotionally investing. Caring too much is basically a requirement. And what makes it safe is the fact that we are all in this together. <3

Wednesday, yes! I've been meaning to send this since forever but always missed Wednesdays so here it goes.

Alec and Magnus get turned into kids, like a warlock attacked with the intent of making them disappear but Magnus threw a shield and they ended up as kids instead of, you know, nothing. they don't remember anything past the age they are now but immediately decide that they are the super bestest of friends and Alec would glare at anyone getting too close to Magnus and Magnus is kind of afraid cause everything is so different and his magic is new and what the fuck is happening

okay so i really wanted to fill this but i don't think i'm in the right mental headspace because Magnus would be just fresh out of losing his mother at any point where he's a child, or dealing with his stepfathers abuse and murder attempts or having killed his father in self defense. he might even have already been picked up by the silent brothers.

He wouldn't probably speak english (dutch and indonesion) and alec is probably just starting to close his emotions off because he's stopped being treated like a child and has been treated like a soldier. he's also starting to parrot racist rhetoric probably and baby magnus doesn't deserve that.

i fully believe baby malec would still feel that connection, but i think it would be alec wanting to hide magnus because 'demons and warlocks are bad and mother and father will try to kill you but i dont think you're a bad warlock (implyng the rest are)' which will not help magnus' trauma tbh.

i feel like it would be worse than the agony rune tbh, to have magnus go back to that time and feel those wounds so fresh and raw and then turn back and have to process those while also having the new memories of how hurt alec already is himself. because magnus would ignore his own issues to focus on alec because (ignoring is a coping mechanism that magnus likes to use until he cant) and alec is going to be upset and trying not to push magnus about his own stuff but alec is also upset at just how awful he now realizes his own childhood was since he's mostly compartmentalized.

it would be a lot of hurt and not a lot of comfort. i'm so sorry you waited so long and i'm saying no, please feel free to send me a different prompt if you'd like. i do sometimes touch on alec's childhood just because it's easier because Maryse is a 50/50 redeemable but i can't really do much about Magnus' mom killing herself over having him and i don't really want to touch on that intense of a trauma topic.

I realize you probably wanted something lighthearted and soft and baby malec protective and cuddly, but i can't figure out how to do that and still write naturally.
