Ik that most ppl take the “you shouldn’t raised a baby girl I should have been a better son” in a trans way but in the context of the song I think it’s more in a gay way, the way it’s ordered in the album could also make it encompass both though. Mama is written like a apology letter than is more of a “fuck you, I can do what I want now that I’m dying” especially since it’s stuck between cancer and sleep, cancer being the patients worsening condition and mama being him fighting the fact that he’s going to die and people like him don’t get a free pass to the upstairs, but it ends with a crescendo of “we’re doomed after all” as if he’s cool with going to hell now, while sleep is more of an acceptance of his death but also the terror behind it.
