Ideas I have while writing abt Chihiro and Hakuri bc I feel like I gotta take notes of it while writing:

Chihiro speaks just a little more formally than Hakuri does, barely noticeable even, and it's enough to differentiate their dialogue

Hakuri's hands cramp up easily when doing things that require precision

Hakuri struggles communicating his thoughts and sometimes stumbles over his words or stutters

Chihiro prefers to be silent but will talk when he feels like it or when its important

Chihiro notices little details enough for it to be like second nature, it comes with always being on the run and on high alert

Shiba wont make Chihiro talk about things he doesn't want to, but he has a mental catalogue of everything he notices

Hakuri's anxiety manifests externally (physical symptoms) while Chihiro's manifests internally (psychological symptoms)

Chihiro rarely if ever smiles unless its only him and Hakuri in the room

Hakuri uses his phone a lot more than Chihiro does and always sends him memes lmao

The entire group (Hinao, Char, Shiba, Chihiro, Hakuri) has issues with sleeping in some form

Apartment sleeping arrangements are iffy bc i have no clue what Hinao's apartment looks like from the inside but in my mind its a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom so Shiba has the couch, Hinao and Char have one room and Chihiro and Hakuri have the other one.

Chihiro stopped cooking entirely until Hakuri showed up in his life and decided to have it be a routine that they cook together.

Chihiro is confident in Hakuri's ability to defend himself and is comfortable leaving fights to him but hes also very protective. It's mostly instinct on his part. He feels a little bad about it but doesn't stop bc he knows one wrong decision can fuck everything up

Hakuri has more muscle than in canon. Not ridiculously but enough to where he can carry a body if he needs to lol

Chihiro's bandaged hand has nerve damage

Hinao and Shiba accidentally get invested in kids TV shows with Char lmao

Chihiro is more aware of his feelings for Hakuri than Hakuri is about Chihiro. So Chihiro falls first but Hakuri falls harder.

That being said, Hakuri is gonna overthink everything while Chihiro is just scared of putting the other in danger

They definitely have no clue wtf to do abt their feelings tho and unfortunately might need a Shiba intervention (or Hinao)

WIP Wednesday - mushy edition

When I sat down to write out the things I wanted to *manifest* at the beginning of 2023, top of my list was an artistic community. I was halfway through my masters program and I had hoped that I'd find like-minded artists there, but my cohort was full of people who valued aesthetics over ideas, plus one guy who believed that to be able to call yourself an artist, you had to be able to draw technically well. (Totally valid positions to hold, but I was literally making websites and calling it art and having no one to talk to about it.)

Anyway, flash forward to June when I was in a deep deep depression and about to graduate having barely started my job hunt. I turned to the Simon Snow books for comfort, and then turned to tumblr for more. I'd never written fanfiction before and had barely read any. At first I was just reblogging memes, but then I started to find myself reading canon-compliant fic, and then AUs, and increasingly seeking out the crackiest fic I could find, because it's all so damn good in this fandom. I was also in awe of how kind and close-knit the community is - I've been on the internet for over 20 years, and I don't think I've ever seen anything else like it.

I signed up for @carryon-reverse-bang bc I wanted to get more involved & get to know people more. I gotta say I was intimidated when I realized I was paired with Ashton! Getting to bounce my ideas off her and Pati (beta extraordinaire) was honestly the creative collaboration I've been craving for so long. It's been so wild to make up this silly story about these characters who live in my head 24/7 and hear back from one of them, "oh, he would totally do that!"

Flash back, I guess, to this fall. I did get a job, I've been working as an art teacher since September. This is my first teaching job and it's been a lot, but as the months go by, I do feel like it's the "more meaningful" career I was seeking. Because in my best moments, when the kids are totally engaged in making something, I feel with total conviction:

Gimme shifters playing the big scary wolves in a movie but their tails give them away as having a great time to any shifter watching (not wagging, shifter actors are too good for that, but there’s a certain twitch other shifters recognize as “I love what I’m doing now!”). Gimme kids cartoons and Sesame Street talking about keeping covert in simple terms and teaching about magic much better than the DUMP videos. Gimme, like, the Nickelodeon and Disney Channel teenager shows about newly manifested adolescents learning about their powers (gimme several comedic-but-informational shows about humanborn teens trying to hide their magic—usually written by humanborn adults with the main character, of course, played by magic-born teenagers. 🐇 ⇢ do you prefer writing original characters, reader inserts, or a mix of both? i don't think i've ever done reader or author insert characters intentionally, and i only do original characters when they have to serve some narrative purpose, ie. when i'm writing an AU and there is no canon character who fits the adaptation. on an OC but not fic-related note, what i've found in creating characters for D&D campaigns, whether PCs i'm going to play or NPCs for a setting, is that original characters are so freaking hard!!!! finding voices and perspectives for each character is what makes me relate to them, but that's almost impossible for me to do from scratch rather than someone else's blueprint. i think right now i'm in an "i actually hate creating characters as opposed to just adapting/using them" mood and i don't enjoy it until everything clicks together. i've gotta get better at training myself to find the clicking point faster tho, bc i have many good ideas for d&d campaigns that i would like to start manifesting, lol

i haven't written anything really for franklin himself, but my partner roleplays him and i love xyr portrayal of him so will be pulling from that (which, fun fact, is kinda where the idea of them as an oc/canon ship started from... but i love it sm i decided to separate it from just rp and make it a standalone thing teehee)

but anyway! below the cut bc i rambled about them... oops ^-^;

20. Does your OC have a tendency to get jealous? If so, how does this manifest?

phoebe does, and i think for her a lot of it stems from the fact attachment to others in general is a sensitive topic. she lost her parents, her brother jumped ship (and she has gotten over that, they're on good terms and she understands why he left los santos with his wife), and she really just. has nobody. so she does get worried when the few people she does genuinely attach herself to seemingly show signs of pulling back. it manifests as her withdrawing and becoming defensive of herself (expecting that withdraw and thus pushing the other party away).

franklin also seems like he does, and it's understandable in his case too. he's lost a lot of folk in his life, and those who are around are so stuck in a specific mindset that he feels ostracized for questioning it/trying to do something different with himself. ironically, they kind of deal with it in the same way. he gets upset and defensive, and he'll withdraw from the situation/the person(s) involved.

when it comes to their relationship, it does create tension and strain. understandably so. but a little time apart to cool off is often enough for them to wander back and talk things through.

21. Does your OC have any illnesses or disorders? How do they handle it?

phoebe has no physical illnesses, but she definitely has underlying mental health concerns due to discovering her parents after a break-in gone wrong. she tends to handle it by putting herself into adverse situations as one, they give her a chance to prove others (and namely, herself) wrong about a perceived lack of ability and two, they serve as a distraction. can't think about how shit you feel when you're being shot at!

as for franklin, i imagine they're pretty similar in that regard. he's seen a lot of things go on (and often, go wrong), that it's gotta weigh on him. it does weigh on him. we see that a lot in his dialogs with the other characters (and to himself). i don't remember if it's explicit or implied canon, but he has depression of some sort. as for handling it/coping with it, he does try to distance himself from things at times. but his conscience always gets the better of him, especially where people he cares about are involved (re: his shenanigans with lamar), and he gets roped back into things.

22. What character alignment would you consider your OC to be?

honestly they both have chaotic good energy.

phoebe i know for a fact is! she's not afraid to call bullshit as she sees it, and will often go against the societal norm to make things right (laws and regulations be damned)

franklin on the other hand, does fit that vibe but he's also less? energetic about it. i mean, he is depressed, so i don't blame him for that. but at the end of the day, he just wants things to be right. he could arguably also fit into true neutral territory, but i don't feel like he's really the "it is what it is" type.

23. What emotion is the hardest for your OC to process? How about express?

easy answer for both of them: vulnerability. a lot of it is kinda repeat from the jealousy question, but genuinely?

it is so hard for them both to process anything that puts them at a perceived disadvantage socially. they've been through it. they've lost a lot. they don't want to appear 'weak' because it only further ostracizes them from the crowds they find themselves in.

24. What is an alternative life path your OC might have gone down? How different would their life be if they'd made those decisions?

i feel like, in an alternate life, phoebe either would have become some sort of influence or done work with animals. her sense of style is so bold and specific, and she does love engaging with new trends and keeping atop of that. of course, that's also expensive, and it likely would have become a side thing to working with animals. she never had pets until patches (her neighbors' boxer that she adopted out from them), but after taking care of him? yeah. she could see herself doing that on a larger scale/long-term. it's actually a back-burner kind of headcanon i have for her that, between heists, she does volunteer at the los santos county animal shelter. her life would have been very different; a lot more stable, frankly.

with franklin, we do get to see a look into an alternate life through the online lore re: him becoming the owner of a celebrity solutions agency (though his work is… very similar to the work he did with michael and trevor; just he's not on the ground as much and it's a lot more planned out/clean). that said, if he truly were to have an alternative life path, i feel like it would have been something with automotive work. as sleazy as simeon's business is, franklin seemed like he genuinely enjoyed working with the cars and prepping them for purchase/showcase! if he never got involved with michael and the boys(tm), his life would have been so much different.

25. What is your favorite thing about your OC?

oh man…

my favorite thing about phoebe, besides her sense of style, is just how down-to-earth she is at the end of the day. like. she really is just some person when the job is said and done. most of the stuff i've written for her privately/through rp aren't even like… heist related. it's just her being within the boundaries of los santos and existing. she's met ramón (other oc) and chatted with him. she's done gun-for-hire work for laverne (oc), and subsequently sat and had lunch with her by the pier. her, candy, and faye (ocs) are best fucking friends. they always have girls nights out together at the vanilla unicorn and to the pier and up to blaine county to fuck around in the desert.

and my favorite thing about franklin is just how much he actually cares about people. he tries to hide it, but we can see time and time again that he genuinely wants what's best/safest for everyone. like. his relationship with lamar?? and the way he interacts with imani (gta online npc; daughter of one of his longer-term friends, pearlie)??? obsessed. he's so fucking… good. he's a good man. and he deserves the world.

then, as a bonus, my favorite thing about them/their relationship is how much they balance each other out. how they've become a safe space for one another, where (even if their psyches get the best of them) they can be vulnerable and wholly trusting about themselves, their thoughts, and their emotions. they fuck around and get into trouble, sure, and they have a lot of fun doing it...

but at the end of the day, their favorite thing to do is just exist together. turn on whatever shitty movie re-run is playing on the television, cuddle up on the couch, and just. exist. and i just think that's neat.

1.) Your character is now the leader of their species, whatever that looks like for them (Arcane Councilmember, Imperator, Royalty, etc). How do they govern and what sorts of changes would they make if any?

They would certainly reform education in some way. That's all I can think of rn... :')

2.) What class would your character just absolutely blow at?

(CW: Animal cruelty)

Ranger. They would use any and all animals they find/come across for some kind of fucked up experiment. None of them would stay alive.😞

3.) What person impacted them the most?

*Shows a picture of them surrounded by 500 Joko statues. Surprisingly.*

*Coughs* Anyway, yeah, the moment the asura first learned about Joko in a corner of a library, the impact was made. Gliaster cares about nothing but necromancy and seeing that there was this powerful lich out there was just the cataclysm of everything. Like a god. That man was so otherworldy for Gliaster in everything, even decades later they can't let go of him. Ever.

4.) Assuming they're a commander, how close were they really to Destiny's Edge? To Trahearne?

5.) What would they look like as the side character in someone else's story?

IDK I can only think of as a trope, like in general. Cuz yeah they're kind of a side character for Joko but it's Complicated.

Anyway, they would be the type of side character that's like always around in the background, kind of like as a running gag. Not even them personally always but like a picture of them. Just always there in the corner of your eyes... Always watching.....

6.) They're now a heart NPC/part of a string of quests. What does that involve?

Hhh I have way too many ideas for this. One that would be similar to the Vabbi heart at the Necropolis (Help the living and the dead at the Necropolis) with processing and honoring the dead but also one where they're in Tyria in disguise (they're a wanted criminal in there so gotta be careful lol) spreading Joko propaganda which would be just the opposite of a heart in Ebonhawke. 😭 (Help the people in Ebonhawke). I'm sooo original.

Something other I can think about is some generic asura stuff helping around the lab or with experiments, possibly again involving animal cruelty or even worse, but I already wrote a similar heart for Rikka. 😞

7.) Do they have any skills or abilities that their class wouldn't normally have/just go about their class differently in some kind of way?

Ohhh boy yes they do. 😈 So, they're a necromancer, but with some sub-abilities similar to other classes/specializations' abilities.

For example they CAN "manifest sand shade" like an in-game scourge, but it's actually sand manipulation. They can use sand to lift or carry objects, for example caskets or even themself. They like to make themself taller this way hehe.

They can also summon fire in/around their left hand due to a Djinn's blessing, but can only use it as a light source and can't attack with it.

But most importantly, and also the most powerful of them all, they can manipulate other living beings' blood in their veins, essentially controlling them like puppets. This costs great energy though, so they only use it as a last resort. Later however, when they themself become a lich, this limitation ends and this becomes their main way of practicing necromancy.

8.) How willing are they to bend/break the rules for their cause (be it selfless or otherwise)?

They will literally commit murder for it so yes, very willing.

9.) What's an AU for them you think could be fun to explore?

I do have two AU ideas... one of them fun, one of them just fucked up (and fun. for me.)

The fun: Inquest AU sort of, but so far it's only in the Mists because Inquest member Gliaster is my WvW toon, and haven't really explored it much. Only fashion-wise. Yet.

The fucked up: An AU where Joko somehow has remains. For Gliaster to keep to themself and do whatever with it. And probably prevent any future tragedies that exist in their main verse because of this... :') Exploring dark/taboo sides of my OCs like my life depends on it...

10.) Would/does knowing their backstory change how people (in general but also Tyria at large) view them?

Probably not, it's not like they have a tragic backstory and that's why they are "evil", why they like necromancy or are siding with Joko. Even when they become a lich and seek revenge against Aurene and the Commander, their past doesn't really redeem them.

11.) How accurate is their reputation/image compared to how they really are?

Quite accurate. They don't really show a fake image and are very honest. Their reputation is basically "murderous traitor" in Tyria and "weird little cruel guy who's also Joko's lover" in Elona, so yep.

12.) Have they "completed" the map? What does that look like in your canon?

In-game they do have full map completion of core Tyria and every other map as well because they're my main and I do every story with them, but in canon... A bit of here and there in core Tyria. They used to have a travelling era before they permanently moved to Elona. But they surely have the Crystal Desert and Elona "completed." But they don't explore every tiny bit of areas like how it is done sometimes in-game to get map completion.

13.) What is the worst/funniest/dumbest article that could be written about them in Tyria's trashiest gossip mag?

In Tyria...some big dumb lie of how they betrayed and murdered the Priory excavation team on their way to Elona. People would blow it out of proportion for sure.

Then in Elona.....people would probably distastefully curious and disgusted about their sexual life with Joko.

14.) Biggest misconception about them?

Not quite a misconception but their looks are quite misleading; they're small and have quite a high pitched voice. Probably nobody would assume from first sight that this little creature tortures and murders people on the regular. First, for science/knowledge, then in Joko's name, and later, their own satisfaction.

15.) What is their favorite and least favorite part of being the commander (or whatever role they play in your canon)?

While they enjoy the privilege of being close to Joko, they also love the luxuries that come with it. What they don't like...hmmm...Head empty no thoughts, so nothing comes to mind, but might edit later if I think of something. :^D

3 what’s one scene you always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all the setup and context it would need? I would love to write just some smutty smutty PWP of polygun all having fun with vash’s vine tentacles but I keep being hung up by my own inability to let go of canon characterization - the fact that those vines are incredibly traumatic to vash and I have such a hard time getting him in my mind to a place where he’d be okay with even manifesting them, much less railing three people at once with them. argh! it took me however many thousands of words of the VWL post-canon AU to get to a place where I think vash is fine with feathering out and having oops-accidentally-psychic sex with wolfwood and livio. do I have to do that with vash/wolfwood/meryl/milly also?? (maybe?? i’m not saying it’ll NEVER happen I’m just saying it makes me insane)

I also have a slew of AU ideas that I know would make great 100k+ epics but like, man, that’s work, that’s so hardddd whine whine whine

T&I has the most abandoned plotlines of probably anything I’ve ever written besides my old destiel AU. modern-setting AUs have so many potential ways to get sidelined, at least for me. probably the biggest thing is that according to the original outline, the final showdown was meant to take place in like a warehouse at some docks (why? what??), zazie was going to drive everyone there because elendira sent them to get her man back safely, the WHOLE crew was supposed to go (vash, nick, livio, meryl, milly, kaite, zazie) and there were going to be? whole gun fight scenes??

this is a blatant example of what is meant by “don’t be precious with your ideas” - I wrote several thousand words of outline and then looked at all of it and said what the fuck, time to put all of this in the garbage disposal and start over. don’t be precious = drawfee’s whole bit of “delete your art.” sometimes you gotta accept not even scavenging for bits to salvage, just burn it all.

now, 99% of those things are just common things shared between the two species. the problem then is "but knight the laputian purebloods except muska died out 700 years ago when the world got fucked by being ravaged by constant wars bc the crusades sucked ass" yes that is very true, but also the laputians put their souls in magic rocks and their physical bodies returned to the earth.

looping back to "laputians are gods made by other beings (other gods)" the same principle applies to the god warriors, except i guess they were made by humans to be gods, but clearly thats super fucked up and they turned out really wrong. so consider,

humans can't properly use aetherium, that's made clear in the dialogue in castle in the sky, where only the laputians had been able to fully harness the power of aetherium. so here come some humans who decide lmao gotta yeet all things and say they are able to find "control stones" (read: dormant aetherium crystals with laputian souls) and they decide to make some gods with that.

if muska, a laputian, can't revive the laputians, what makes humans think they can do it right? clearly, they ... they didn't. it's super wrong, because what they got was giant ass bioweapons that decided to cast turbodeath upon everything for 7 days straight nonstop, before they died because the godlike power rotted their bodies.

and speaking of godlike power that corrodes the body, muska wasn't born blind! he went blind because his godlike power destroyed his physical health, even tho he could fight 50 grown men and win, he's far from peak health by his species standards. he's suffered "stunted physical growth" man's 6'4 what was this species even. muska didn't die of his power because he's linked to the main crystal core as all the rulers of laputa have been (i can have a little ffxv as a treat! "king of the stone/king of kings")

now, what's even MORE fucked up and will get its own post is how the heedra could also be attempts at fucked up laputians because they also have control stones and are immortal unless you destroy their cores and their bodies also fall apart and turn into mud if you kill them hM!!!!

I'm afraid the story's longer than it is interesting! Back in HS a friend and I had printed out pink chinchillas (printed in b&w then colored with markers) and put them around the school for... some reason, I truly don't remember why. My future brother-in-law had already graduated, but heard about it, and was making fun of me so I doubled down: "yeah this week pink chinchillas, next week purple muskrats." The muskrats never manifested (I think we'd moved on to a school-wide survey about superpowers) but soon after that I created my very first email account, and the name just stuck. And eventually (once I decided my fanfiction name was too middle school) it became my default!

It's sort of a cliche, but Fiora always idolized her mother the most growing up; she's the whole reason she got into the archery discipline in the first place. As a child, she'd beg her mother to tell her stories about her time as the Seawolf, and then drag Fergus and some of the servants into reenacting the stories.

As for despise... Honestly man, if it's not Howe, it's gotta be Loghain. She could not get behind any of his reasons for staging a coup in the middle of a Blight. Add to that working with Tevinter slavers and Rendon Howe, the man who murdered her family, and... yeah. I imagine she respected him before for his tactical genius and military might, but after Ostagar and learning all the shady shit he's done, her opinion of him took a nosedive right into the gutter.

Marian: 22. What is your character most afraid of?

The funny answer is centipedes.

The non-funny answer is not living up to her father's ideals; for all that Marian likes to appear tough and uncaring, if you put her in front of a Fear demon, it would turn into Malcolm and rip into her for not protecting the family, for not defending her fellow mages, for being selfish and cruel and a disappointment.

The real Malcolm, of course, would never say those things, but Marian still feels like her father wouldn't be proud of the woman she's become. It takes her a long time (plus some therapy and some loving from a certain former chantry brother) before she comes to terms with that and moves on.

Hildegarde: 18. What is your character’s relationship with their parents/the people that raised them?

So, Hildegarde is the youngest of four. Her mother remarried her father after her first husband passed away from old age (arranged marriage; there was no love there, but she did love Hildegarde's father). She already had her first three kids from that marriage, with their ages being 13, 10, and 8 when Hildegarde came.

When Hildegarde was born, her mother passed away from complications during the birth, so she never knew her. Her father doted on her, to the point of being smothering and overprotective, though Hilde was a lonely child so she adored her father. He hated the idea of having to send her to the Circle when her magic manifested, but as a devout man, he relented. He wrote to Hildegarde on a weekly basis and sent her gifts, which she appreciated, but it also had the unintended side effect of making the other mages at the Circle dislike her, viewing her as a spoiled brat.

And, as a not-so-fun bonus, two of her half-siblings hated her, blaming her for their mother's death. The eldest didn't, he's mature enough to realize it wasn't her fault, but he was also old enough that he was being drawn more into preparing for his adult responsibilities, and thus never had much time to spend with Hilde before she was sent to the Circle. Her other two siblings became templars, so that was an added tension that didn't help their relationships.

If someone devious ever even remotely manages to invade his privacy and get past the doubly-installed security system, he has enough money to deal with it no matter what.

If it concerns your privacy, he's a red belt. And owns Jin's number if a taekwondo master is required. Jimin's if it needs someone with kendo skills.

If Yoongi needs someone to go on a complete rampage, Jungkook lives just down the block. He can sprint to Yoongi's bunker I mean mansion within 45 seconds. 30 if it's very urgent. 20 if the reward is an instant ramen splurge with Yoongi's black card.
