For the winter holidays, I've taken the blog's Mantis logo and tried to shine it up with the spirit of the season. Our Mantis friend now dons a Santa Claus fur hat that is decorated with a Bee logo pattern of green and red & gold and silver stars (intended to evoke tinsel). I suppose you can him "Mantis Claus" or "Mantis Claws". There were attempts to change the Mantis' color and to add decorations to the body, but the attempts made it look somewhat sinister so I abandoned the idea. Simplicity was the better choice this time, as was the necessity to have a bit of fun with this logo! One antennae is poking out just to keep things light and fun. Alongside the hat's pattern, the Bee Logo is included here in the form of red and green ornaments clutched in forearms of Mantis Claus. For future posts, this logo will be included in the text of Christmas related posts, and earlier posts have been updated to feature this bit of artwork. Even in the coldest winter, insects can always add a little touch to celebrate the season. Stay warm.
3 months of work and I’ve finally managed to finish!
I give you all the rave mantis! A giant paper mache mantis mask that glows in the dark and under blacklight. I wanted this thing to be as eye catching as possible and I think I achieved that.
I’m waiting till the end of its display run to make it wearable, but as of now the mouth parts and mandibles are fully poseable and the head (minus the eyes) is about the width of my torso.
I wanna add fiber optic antenna later but that’s for another day ✨
well you see, when i was a very small child, i had a nightmare. it began outside a beautiful gated garden, lush with flowers and foliage. every adult that tried to enter was promptly eaten by giant spiders that dropped down from the gate's arch.
i, being very small at the time, was able to enter without harm. and inside were countless butterflies of all sizes! it was gorgeous! i still remember it vividly despite having this dream a loooooong time ago! but i most vividly remember leaning down to look at a butterfly on a gorgeous flower.
then a different butterfly came over and cannibalized it. slowly. while the smaller one just sat there and let it happen, gently fluttering its wings.
and when i looked around the garden, i saw that the butterflies were all cannibals. and they helped the spiders eat people. it was beautiful carnage.
also butterflies are just ingenuine! they're the mean girls! they're all "oh we're so pretty and innocent look at us so so prettyyyy" girl you literally feed on carrion, rotting fruit, shit, and mud, stop lying
Repo thought Luci was a boy for a very very long time. Moths can be subtle in their difference of genders, but generally females have larger wings and thinner antenna. Being mutated, and not having any other mutated moths to compare to, Repo didn't really have a lot to go on. He assumed Luci was a boy because of how small she was. Luci is also shaped more androgynously, and her clothes mainly came from Repo anyway. When they first met, she looked even more gender neutral. In the US, 'Lucy/Luci' is considered to be a unisex name and could be short for Lucius (a masculine name) or others, so Repo didn't really bat an eye when Luci said she wanted to be called it. When Luci actually looked up her name (spelling it the less common way as Luci), she found it to be a shortened version of Lucinda so she thought that's what her full name was.
Luci, not knowing these things at first, didn't think to bring it up to Repo when she found out and understood she was female because it just wasn't an important thing on her mind. But as she got older, and Repo kept giving her certain things, she wondered if he was aware of this or if he truly didn't know.
In case of any confusion: Luci is not trans (though I was quite tempted to). It was just Repo misunderstanding because I thought this would be funny. idk, I thought this was cute! And it'd be something Luci could make fun of Repo for (though Repo immediately telling Todd likely led to Todd telling Pico, and Luci would be forever embarrassed by it)
well. my supervisor is out so I'm reporting to the head of the department and I just had to send an email to her explaining why the grammatical correction she asked me to make in a report is actually incorrect. God preserve me lol
