Yesterday I RBd a thing where you list your WIPs, then people send you asks about specific ones, and you share a little. @bohemianrhapsody711 asked about these:

Into the Bugverse

I am SUPER excited about this idea, but it's in very early stages (no actual snippets to share, just some disjointed points I'll fill in right now). It is, as you might guess, a riff on Into the Spiderverse. A bit of crack taken seriously where the multiverse is all the fics on Ao3.

We begin with a universe in which Marinette is navigating not to disappointing her parents, who want her to learn the family trade.

Chat Noir, who fought alone most of his life before Marinette was recruited (think of this as kind of a plot divergent Hey, Ribbons by childoflightningg aka @peggiecarter aka @annaethchase), has died (he was Felix Agreste). She's all alone as LB now. The whole of Paris mourns him.

She also meets the new kid, Adrien, and a new Chat Noir shows up. Suddenly, pulled through the "bugverse" into her own world is an older Marinette from another fanwork, possibly Semantitheft's L'Oublie Marinette. They bond while fighting the big bad (imagine a vibe kind of like @leviaana's wonderful comic about Minibug, the jaded older LB who still loves her younger self).

At a low moment for them, other Marinettes get pulled into her world, all from other fanfics. Maybe

a paranoid @buggachat BEAU Marinette or mistrustful one from @wackus-bonkus-maximus One Does Not Love Breathing

Maybe a Marinette from a Coffee Shop AU like Allez savoir pourqois by Yilena who has no powers but is still smart

Or possibly a blog AU like Chat Noir's Miraculous Award for Truly Magical Food by @mommadon. Non-magic Marinette will receive a miraculous as a temp hero!

Marinette from a fic where she's pregnant as fuck but still fighting (the one I'm thinking of it's kind of a twist she gets pregnant later on, so I won't mention it).

Definitely Marinette from Ghost in the Machine by @jheqiawrites alongside her AI companion Adrien.

Possibly an akumatized Marinette

lip service to the MariBat fandom with a very well-capitalized MARINETTE (see what I did there?) from Miraculous LadyBat by BoxTops

a princess or knight Marinette like from A Royal Pain by jheqia and @sing-in-me-oh-muse

At some point in the fighting, we find out that Adrien died young in this universe and Papillon and Peahen are the enemies, and they're trying to get the miraculous to wish him back to life.

The Adrien in this universe is actually from a universe where Marinette/Ladybug is dead, and OMG, Marinette, he's Chat Noir!!!! Possibly from Hamburger Ladybug by @raspberrycatapult or from Last Wishes by @kasienda

Blah blah save the world, everyone returns to their universes. Hint at sequel that brings in other fanfics' Ladybug versions! Do we get a transdimentional love story?? Who knows? I DO!! (I don't.)

I think there's something of an ethical issue for me about using other people's Marinettes for my story, but I think if it's crack it's more OK (it's somewhat like parody) than if I were creating spinoffs with the same tone. BC to be honest, I suspect none of the BNFs would ever see a message from me asking permission. Better to beg forgiveness, right?

Miraculous: Bachelorette Edition

Alya, sick of watching Marinette flounder into her 20s, unable to confess to Adrien, submits her friend in secret as a potential Bachelorette for a reality TV show where many men vie for her hand. Through the magic of crack, a bunch of guys from the show end up contestants: Adrien (his father made him), Luka (he's pan so why not?), Nathaniel (STILL IN DENIAL about his feelings for Marc), Theo the sculptor with the bad soul patch, etc. Oh, and much to Ladybug's annoyance, Chat Noir is also a contestant?!

All of Paris is begging for Pajamagirl x Adrien Agreste

This is going through revisions in my head, but the initial kernel that is actually written down in my WIPs is

Ladybug falls in a crowded area and unconscious, de-transforms. Someone takes their camera out. "Don't you fucking take that picture. Hawkmoth can't know who she is!" Some teen girl "Is that Pajama Girl? Annette, I think that's Pajama Girl!" "OMG Charlotte, you're right! "Wait, didn't Adrien say in an interview that his celebrity crush is Ladybug?" "Dude didn't I see that Chat Noir took her on a date to Andre's?" Marinette wakes up surrounded by people, freaks out. "Don't worry girl, we're not gonna tell anyone, and no one took any pictures. Your secret's safe. Later that day, Annette and Charlotte get #adrienshoulddatepajamagirl trending on social media. Gabriel, who turns out to have been full of SHIT when he told Marinette that he determines what the public wants, pressures Adrien to date his Very Good Friend for the brand.

Tag Team Tournament 2023

Are you ready to tag back into Maribat?

Last Year's Tag Team Tournament remains our most popular event to date, so naturally we decided to bring it back again this summer! If you're new to our corner of the fandom, we invite you to take a look at our previous submissions on our 2022 Live Tracker and check out our 2022 Awards before you tag in to this year's event.

This year, our Tournament will take place from July 30th - Aug 5th, and our rules and procedures remain the same, though you can view them on our Event Guide Document if you'd like a refresher, or if you're tagging into Maribat for the first time. The only big change is going to be to our lineup. Or, rather, it might be.

As for this year's teams, well...

Just as last year, we'll have 8 teams for our creators to compete for, however, this year you'll be getting to vote on the 8th team! Since Sunshine Children (aka Marijon) placed last in our 2022 Tournament, they'll be the team on the defensive in our first event: The Shipping Bracket. More on that later.

Who's on the teams? Well, anyone who wants to be! And since this is the Tag Team Tournament, creators can tag in and tag out of teams as they please, creating as much or as little as they’d like to support each ship — multishippers rejoice!

How do you participate? Our full Event Guide Document explains everything you need to know, including the rules, submission guidelines, scoring guidelines, and more! You’ll also find the submission form — only content submitted through this form will be scored for your team, so make sure you read the whole document and fill it out. 

If you're posting on AO3, we have an Event Collection for your fics. If you're posting on Tumblr, make sure to tag your creation with #TTT2023 so we can see it and reblog it here! 

If you’d like to keep an eye on the scores for each team (and maybe tag into a team to help bump them up), our Event Guide Document will include a link to a publicly accessible tracker, complete with live-updating team totals!

The Shipping Bracket will pit 20 different ships (chosen by members of the Maribat Server) in a series of 1v1 matches to determine which ship will get it's own team in our 2023 Tournament. But hey, even if your favorite doesn't win the bracket, you can still write for them by submitting under Rare Flair, and we hope that you will, because there are some really fun dynamics proposed in this bracket!

Voting for the Shipping Bracket will begin on June 4th, and we'll post one set of polls a week until we've found our winner. Now, we know that not everyone who votes on our public tumblr poll is likely to participate in our Tournament (though we hope that you will!), so to ensure that our participants get a real say, if you participated last year we have a special form that lets you vote an extra time (and everyone thank @nottesilhouette for explaining the math behind how we can do that). Our winning team will have their name and logo released on July 23rd, so keep an eye out for them.

We can't wait to start this totally epic event, and to see which team pulls ahead in this year's tournament. Will it end in another tie, or will we finally settle the score between Book Design and Java Junkies? Or maybe this year a new team will take the trophy?

Extra chap because we won the maribat awards

Marinette had, originally, been a little annoyed with Tim when he had told Jimothy and Bernard about their dimension-hopping… but she soon learned the error in her ways.

Because now she had someone to commiserate with. After all, Bernard, too, was dating a version of Tim Drake. They were kindred spirits, bearers of the curse.

It all started with a simple conversation.

Bernard leaned over the back of the couch, smiling and clapping politely at the picture Damian was showing him. “So, why are we letting the Tims cook again?”

Steph grinned a little, apparently still amused by the fact that there were, now, two Tims. To be fair, the chances of there being a set of twins that were separated at birth that happened to have the same name had to be small.

Marinette shrugged lazily. “They insisted. And I want to see which one is the better cook. See if I lucked out – somehow.”

Bernard shrugged. “Probably not. Tim is good at many things… baking is not one of those things. In fact, I’m 99% sure that his inability to cook is how the world attempts to balance the fact that he is good at everything else.”

“I have to buy new equipment every time he cooks to make sure he hasn’t cursed the pans.”

There was a loud crashing sound from the kitchen, and what might have been a minor explosion, as if the universe was proving them right.

The two of them merely sighed in that specific way that people do when they are used to a terrible thing and now resigned to their fate.

And just like that, they realized: they were no longer alone.

Steph glanced back at the kitchen. “Should we go see how they messed up?”

“Give them, like, ten minutes to try and fix it,” Bernard waved her off.

Marinette raised her eyebrows. “Why?”

“If they can’t fix it in ten minutes, then they deserve to get the Look Of Disappointment. Otherwise, it’s not our problem, and we can pretend they didn’t do anything wrong.”

She mulled this over for a few moments before nodding. Yeah. That sounded like a good enough plan.

Besides, Damian was frantically trying to show her the drawing he was doing of a cave (done in green crayon, for some reason). Whatever the Tims had done could wait.

From that point on, they had weekly meetings where they discussed their boyfriends – who they loved very much, but agreed could be somewhat exhausting from time to time – over a glass of wine. Like a book club. But meaner. Somehow.

Tim blinked as Damian made his way over to him with a look of grim determination on his face. He wasn’t sure what the kid wanted, and he wasn’t afraid to admit that the expression kind of threw him off.

Mostly because almost every time he saw the Old Damian make that face, it was right before a fight. And, granted, he was pretty confident in his abilities to beat up a small child, but he would very much prefer not to.

But then Damian walked over and wrapped himself around Tim’s leg.

Tim blinked down at him.

He only got more confused as Damian started attempting to climb him like he were a rope in gym class and his grade depended on how fast he managed to get to the top.

Damian managed to make his way all the way up Tim’s leg – somewhat surprising, Tim hadn’t been aware the kid had had that much grip strength – but then he got stuck, squinting up at Tim calculatingly.

He started trying to use the fabric of his shirt. Tim yelped and grabbed him before he could a) stretch out his shirt or b) fall. These were both equally terrible possibilities, and he was perfectly willing to put a stop to this at any cost. Luckily, there was no cost.

But Damian, improv and manipulation extraordinaire, used the newfound arms around him to latch on to Tim and start clambering up even further.

Tim stared at the kid as he came up to sit on his shoulder, looking very proud of himself.

“Why?” He asked because, really, what else do you say in this situation?

“Tall,” he said. He went to put his hands on his hips in a kind of ‘I’m better and smarter than everyone else’ gesture, but then had to frantically wrap his arms around Tim’s head again when he wobbled uncertainly on his makeshift seat.

“You could have just asked me to pick you up,” Tim pointed out, grinning as he brought up a hand to rest on the kid’s back to help steady him.

Damian shook his head. “Tall,” he said again, as if it made any more sense the second time.

Regardless, he just grinned and nodded sagely. “Ah, I see,” he said, trying very hard to keep the waver of laughter out of his voice. “I’ll take you to the park sometime soon. You’ll probably get a kick out of jungle gyms.”

Damian beamed.

Paige beamed as she slammed her hands down on the table. “I’ve got a promotion! I can get the good diapers now!”

Marinette smiled. “I’m sure Floyd is happy.”

“I guarantee he has no clue,” Paige said, shrugging. But she still seemed pleased regardless. “I’m doing this for me.”

“Ah, yes, the classic treat yourself by treating your kid scenario. I did that when I changed the stroller to one with more flowers back in the day.”

They shared a conspiratorial nod. What were they conspiring against? Who knows. Not capitalism, apparently.

Ava hummed. “Still, it’s wild that you got promoted. I didn’t think Mr. Matthews was old enough to retire, and definitely not bad enough to be fired or good enough to be promoted. He was so… average.”

“Got busted for mob activities,” Paige said, shrugging.

Ah, yes, average.

And, no, that wasn’t sarcastic. They all nodded. Sagely, this time. For, in Gotham, there was nothing all that shocking about finding out someone they were close to was engaging in illegal activities…

Speaking of…

“Damn. I should probably go make sure Orlando knows they’re looking into people more thoroughly right now,” Marinette murmured, packing away her food.

Tim hummed as he absently slapped a sticker on each of the miscellaneous boxes of energy drinks.

He preferred to shop at Thomas Thumb when it came to getting drinks, if only because it was much faster to do the sticker method than to sit there and wait impatiently as the people at the door checked your receipt to make sure you weren’t stealing. Now if only it wasn’t so expensive…

But, when he got to the end, he realized that the cashier had accidentally given him an extra sticker.

He shrugged internally and turned to Damian, who had opted to sit on one of the boxes in the cart. This was almost definitely unsafe, but it is what it is.

He popped the sticker onto his forehead.

Damian gasped in offense and started trying to peel it off, glaring at Tim all the while.

Tim pretended not to notice. He was too busy getting the cart out of the store so he could load up the car.

Damian, eventually, managed to peel it off. He put it on his shirt, wearing it like a badge. Possibly of honor, but probably not because… well… it’s a mass produced sticker. But maybe – after all, there is honor in actually paying for your things in Gotham. It’s a rarity.

Tim smiled at the proud look on his kid’s face and made a mental note to get him some more stickers, even if it meant that they would have to deal with getting them all off the walls and furniture every night.

She watched as Damian rode Frank around the apartment like a horse. Normally, she would put a stop to this, because the poor dog… but, honestly, Frank seemed pleased with this, her tail wagged wildly as she walked through the apartment with her emotional support human (because it definitely went both ways) on her back.

Marinette shrugged internally and leaned back to watch, a fond smile on her face.

Sometimes an award winner is an award winner because they did something obvious, like writing a lot or submitting a bunch. Sometimes, however, mods just want to see people doing something a little different, and that's what happened with the winners of our Special Acknowledgements!

One thing that our team was really hoping for were diverse submissions! We came up with scoring for a lot of different types of submissions, many of which we never got to use. But @ive-tumbled-down-a-rabbit-hole, @deathbymeow, and @mochegato each had a totally unique submission format, and we were really excited to see them!

Of course, some of what our mod team wanted to see was a little more obvious, especially if you were hanging out with us in the Maribat server and got to see us sharing prompts or tropes or challenges that we would love to see people create for. We didn't actually expect any of you to do them, but several of you did, and we wanted to make sure you all knew how much that meant to us!

For those who don't know, @boldlyanxious, @ktreereads, @mochegato, @the-coffee-fandom, and @ive-tumbled-down-a-rabbit-hole all heard about what our mods said we wanted to see and then rose to the challenge of creating it! You guys rock, and we appreciate it.
