🏵Angel’s Trumpet (Brugmansia arboria L.) is POWERFUL MEDICINE.  Used by shamans in South America, this plant was introduced to the Philippines centuries ago and adopted by our own shamans to induce hallucinogenic journeying.  Its fragrance is seductive, intoxicating, and luring. Referred to as “Trompeta,” it’s flowers hang facing down towards the earth, symbolic of speaking intentions to the spirits of the land.  It is not recommended for use by the untrained, as all parts are HIGHLY TOXIC. 🌿When you touch a Makahiya plant, its leaves begin to close up and it folds down at the end of its stem. _ 🌿Fascinating to watch.  Feelings of endearment and affection flow from the heart to this little plant.  Seeing Gavin approach it with great reverence and sensitivity brings such awe and wonder to me as a parent.  This is a child of the next generation, and we can learn from his example. ☀️GUAVA FRUIT☀️ 🌿Psidium Guajava. Family Myrtaceae. _ 🌿Guavas come in an array of varieties.  IN GENERAL, pink guavas tend to be sweet and strong-smelling, similar to pear and strawberries, and are on the juicier side.  The white guavas are sweet, tart, and not as pungent as the pink guavas. Texture ranges from a crisp apple to a soft creamy pulp. _ ☀️How to Clean and Eat Guava (Pictured is a large white guava, Thai variety): ✅Step 1: Wash the outside skin well of any dirt and debris. ✅Step 2: Cut the top stem off, coring around it.  ✅Step 3: Cut the bottom off, where the old petals and sepals once existed.   ✅Step 4: Cut through the middle, from top stem of the fruit to the bottom.  You now have a cross-section of the fruit.   ✅Step 5: Cut into slices. ✅Step 6: Seeds can be removed by simply using a spoon to scoop out the core. However, the fruit can be eaten in its entirety. 🍚These grains of rice travelled from thousands of miles over the ocean, from the palay (rice fields) of Dillera ancestral lands in Agbalo, Panay.  Most people don’t know that there are many grades of rice, and how much work it takes to get from field to table. Rice is a sacred plant, and the lifeblood of many cultures, especially Filipinos. It symbolizes prosperity and fertility. Eaten with cardamom seeds and honey, it creates a magical romantic evening between lovers. It’s used to confuse and dispel evil spirits. Cooked rice is also an offering to appease and feed the ancestors in ritual. Rice serves as a source to help ground, soothe, and give a boost of energy. There is much to learn from rice plant medicine. _   🌿In order to grow rice, the seeds must be propagated and the land prepared.  The carabao (kalabaw) turns the land over, tilling it to become optimal grounds for every seed to germinate and grow.  After the seeds sprout and flower, grains begin to appear and turn to a golden color, at which they are ready to be harvested.  The rice plants are cut down, grains are separated from the grass and are left out in the sun to dry. 🔥The fire danced and burned brightly, as it fed on the offerings given by each person who was a part of this powerful and intentional ceremony.
