Fanart of @masonlindroth amazing game Hylics! Inspired by the astounding soundtrack by Chuck Salamone. I drew this based on the cover art for Uriah Heep's The Magicians Birthday, a great prog rock song.

Y’all know I’ve got interests in fine art and in game design, and I really wish fine art game design was more of a thing. MANY artists have tried over the past four decades or so and in most cases it brings out the worst in the two fields: the weirdness of contemporary art just does not gamify well, so you wind up with an interactive environment with unclear goals (if any), and then there’s the question of how to play it—functioning controllers and monitors are hard to transform, apparently. It seems like a problem somebody would have solved by now, but if it’s happened I can’t find it.

LSD Dream Emulator (1998) is basically the only one anybody has ever cared about.

Although I do think some art critics should take a look at the Hylics games by @masonlindroth; if any game would feel in place in a gallery setting, that’s it
