The New York Rangers have their new head coach Peter Laviolette in place, and the Wolf Pack have Kris Knoblauch in Hartford set for his fifth year. Joining Laviolette's staff is one-time Yale/Sacred Heat University assistant coach Dan Muse, who has been steadily climbing the ladder to this spot. Last year Muse coached the US National Development team in the USHL and worked with the Nashville Predators when Laviolette was head coach as head coach of the Chicago Steele (USHL), where he won the championship. Muse was the head coach of the US's U-18 gold medal-winning team this past spring and played at Stonehill College when they were a Division III program. The Rangers signed defenseman Zac Jones to a two-year, one-way deal at a cap-friendly price tag of $800K / $825K-NHL. Jones is likely being given a shot to make the Rangers' third pair to play with Braden Schneider. He'll compete for that spot with Ben Harpur, who earned the spot and the last available contract last year. The Hershey Bears won the Calder Cup in overtime over the Coachella Valley Firebirds at 16:19, 3-2, in the last North American hockey of the season played in the California desert at the Acriusre Arena. The Jack Butterfield Playoff MVP was Hunter Shepard, who helped knock off the Wolf Pack in the Atlantic Division conference title last month. The Hershey Bears won their 12th title in the 75 years of the franchise. Mark Vecchione scored the first Game 7 overtime winner in the Bears' long, illustrious history overcoming a 2-0 deficit and an early OT PK situation. Henrik Borgstrom didn't play in their opening playoff series against the Charlotte Checkers. He stepped in when Mike Sgarbossa went down with a season-ending injury. He had strong right-wing corner puck possession, won a one-on-one battle with the Firebirds' Ryker Evans, and flipped it out in front. It was the second overtime winner in the last 70 years of the AHL. The Firebirds sought to become the first AHL expansion team since the Texas Stars in 2010 and just the third in league history to do so. Ex-Pack and Hershey team captain, Dylan McIlrath, with his daughter ice-side, getting a kiss from Daddy with the Calder Cup in his hands, won his second Calder Cup title in his career and handed it off to ex-Sound Tiger Aaron Ness. Other CT connections winners for Hershey were former Yale Bulldog Joe Snively and Quinnipiac University Bobcat alum San Anas, who lost in last year's final as a member of the Springfield Thunderbirds. Ex-Pack Stu Bickel, assistant coach for Coachella Valley for a second year in a row, came up short last year in Springfield with Anas. So did ex-Yale John Hayden and QU Brogan Rafferty. Hershey head coach Todd Nelson completed his piece of Calder Cup history as he has now won two titles as a head coach, assistant coach, and player. This summer, he will be strongly considered for an NHL coaching opening. Ex-Pack Steven Kampfer signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Arizona Coyotes, who acquired him at the trade deadline spending it in Tucson. The value is $775K-NHL/$225K-AHL. QUEBEC CITY, Canada — King Artur and his three world titles are coming home to Canada. Montreal resident Artur Beterbiev, the unified WBC/WBO/IBF light heavyweight world champion, will defend his belts against WBC No. 1 contender Callum “Mundo” Smith on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Videotron Centre in Québec City, Canada. Promoted by Eye of the Tiger and Top Rank, in association with Matchroom Boxing, Beterbiev-Smith and a co-feature will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The card will air live and exclusively on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland. The August 19 event will be particularly significant for Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs), boxing’s only world champion with a 100 percent knockout ratio. He has not fought in Québec City since he defended his IBF North American belt in 2015 against Gabriel Campillo. “This is a momentous event for us, as we’re continually striving to bring major fights back to the province. We’re thrilled to be able to make this happen with the best boxer in the history of Québec, Artur Beterbiev, who will share the limelight with other EOTTM fighters. He has made seven world title defenses since toppling Enrico Koelling for the vacant IBF title in November 2017. Beterbiev picked up the WBC strap with a stirring 2019 knockout over Oleksandr Gvozdyk, then added the WBO title to his collection with last year’s second-round drubbing of Joe Smith Jr. He’s only fought once in Canada as world champion, a ninth-round TKO over Marcus Browne in December 2021. Beterbiev followed up the Smith triumph with January’s thrilling eighth-round stoppage over Anthony Yarde in Yarde’s hometown of London. Smith (29-1, 21 KOs) is a former WBA super middleweight world champion who holds victories over George Groves, Hassan N’Dam and John Ryder. His championship run came to an end in December 2019, when he lost a one-sided decision to pound-for-pound great Canelo Alvarez in a title unification tilt. Smith moved up to light heavyweight following the Canelo defeat and notched knockout victories over Gilbert Castillo Rivera and Mathieu Bauderlique. The full card for the Beterbiev-Smith event, which will also feature undefeated super middleweight Christian Mbilli (24-0, 20 KOs) and heavyweight puncher Simon Kean (23-1, 22 KOs), will be announced shortly. Saturday, March 18th, 2023 (06:06) JEFELEN has been positively champing at the bit to share this for some time now...!

Anyone who knows me particularly well, or else has been acquainted with me since the 1990s, will surely be all-too-aware of my deep-seeded love of Hong Kong martial arts cinema. I simply adore the frenetic athleticism of this form of filmmaking, it's balletic dynamism, demonstrating gravity-defying agility, which is more often than not embodied by death-defying feats of reckless bravado, all exemplified by superhuman choreography -- for me, it is an exhilarating joy to behold. Such is the level of my enthusiasm that I traveled to those parts upon graduating from film school, way back when, to be actively involved with the industry over there. For me, the Golden Age really was epitomised from '85-'95, well before the mitigating advent of CGI technology, with so many eye-boggling examples of the genre originating from this region and time that, even for one as voraciously avid as myself, new material is still being discovered even to this day. So much product was being produced during this period, in fact, that Hong Kong came second only to Bollywood with respect to sheer quantity of cinematic releases. The storytelling is often simplistic, it's true, but that's not the point -- these are spectacular works of human prowess, with purpose to thrill and beguile. I really could wax lyrical ad nauseam... but I'll courteously refrain.

When I was presented with the opportunity to be involved with a Masebrothers™ tribute to this cherished subject matter, there was absolutely no way I was going to turn it down. No way. And so it was that I became an Associate Producer on Mathieu Caillière's kung-fu tour de force, "Dragon Cop" (presented in association with Eyez Vision™ and Allegoria Studio™), which is being released to the general public as of today! Featuring dizzying action choreography and stunt work by the always impressive Team Cascade31™, this pulse-pounding love-letter delivers authentic unarmed combat of the popular 功夫片 style, with dashes of the so-called 'heroic bloodshed' genre thrown in for good measure, in the purest tradition of the era defined.

Hong Kong police detectives, Dragon Yuen and Cynthia Chan, are about to bust a drug case involving unscrupulous triad kingpin, Mr. Chow, and his American criminal trade partner, John Rickman. But when these hero supercops find themselves cornered by Chow's ruthless henchmen, The Black Tiger Clan, they will have no choice but to fight in order to stay alive.

The action is emblematically underscored by synth composer, Jupiter-8, with a delightfully addictive theme song provided by HOLOFLASH (soundtrack endorsed by NewRetroWave™). The translated English-dub is now available to watch in its entirety for FREE on YouTube™.

Monday, May 1st, 2023 (22:22) I'm delighted to report that Masebrothers™ have secured the funding for "Dragon's Revenge", foreshadowed sequel to "Dragon Cop", and will be making full use of this to go into production in the coming months!

Speaking personally, I'd have loved to have DOUBLED this production budget, to be perfectly honest, but having been forced to endure the expense of moving not only home, but my own studio workshop, TWICE in the past twelve months, there was no way I could possibly afford to have done so...

But never mind that -- we're making another movie! Stay turned for further Dragon shenanigans in future.
