like imagine going to a team party with him maybe specifically the one where he dressed up for the 80s and so did you. and you look really good. and he keeps telling you that, he’s like “nobody looked great in the eighties, but baby...” and trails off as he looks you up and down licks his lips

Since you're answering questions about CHL trading, do you know if there are any restrictions about age/timing/etc? Obviously it doesn't apply to most (all?) of the names you mentioned, but it is January and half the league is still in high school. Are there rules about making trades that would require a player to switch schools?

Players get traded all the time :( Obviously the most high-profile ones are the ones where they’re in their last year or two of CHL eligibility (so 18-19 year olds) and the highest volume of high-profile trades is around December and early January before the post-WJC deadline, but teams don’t need players’ permission to trade them. It’s like the NHL in terms of timing: some in the offseason, some during the first half, a lot at the deadline, not much after.

I’m not entirely sure how players deal with school, but there’s a high degree of coordination involved. For newly drafted players, the Q says that players can continue their educations within the school system of their home province or state through correspondence courses. So I assume that newly traded players can finish school via correspondence too? The individual CHL leagues coordinate it a certain way so that the academic stress of being traded is minimized, but there’s nothing stopping 16 year olds from getting traded

but back to your question, i dont know much about him but i remember that whole cbj drama with torts and all and it was so weird. and then everytime he's asked about it in interviews we get absolutely nothing but the average hockey player answers so he's kind of a mystery to me. plus only time I've ever really seen him play and been paying attention was this year in on team canada with mat and anderson so his playing is unfamiliar to me.

regarding the locker room I've heard mixed things. like some people like him, some dont, so idk if he's the problem or what but he obviously hasn't been happy on either team (maybe bc the jets have the personality of dry toast, no shade tho, they stay out of drama and mind their own business) what team do you think he'd be good on?? i know where he wouldn't be good and that's vegas....that place already has enough drama to survive the next three years

Author’s Note: Look... I know I’m supposed to be writing that Pierre-Luc Dubois thing but I was listening to Spotify and this song came on and I got hit with the idea to write a fic about it. There was a picture pinned to your fridge that haunted you every time you saw it. It was of your long time internet friend Mathew. He had sent it to you while he was on a vacation to Hawaii during his break from hockey. It haunted you because his eyes kept telling you things his words never did. They kept telling you things that could never be taken back. It was frustrating because those unspoken words in that look felt good and right.

It definitely didn’t help that almost every night your life was overcome with a quiet so loud it was deafening. In that time, all you could think about was how Mathew was doing things with other people. People that weren’t you. How he had his arms around other girls--and guys--almost all the time because he was such a touchy-feely guy from what you had seen. It pained you greatly that you weren’t any of those people that he had his arms around.

The few times you had seen him over video chat, you could swear that there was a connection between you. Could swear that you felt electricity buzzing between you every time you laughed or smiled at each other. It had been so prominent to you that you were almost certain that he could feel it to. The fact that he had never mentioned it drove you absolutely bonkers.

Maybe in a different place, a different time, or a different life you wouldn’t keep doing this to yourself. Maybe in that different place, different time, or different life you and Mathew would actually date. In this life, you would allow yourself to suffer for the sake of keeping your friendship. Your friendship with him was much more important than any stupid feelings that had crept their way into the mixture.

You would never get the chance to try with Mathew and that was bad enough. The thing that was driving you crazier was that if you and Mathew ever got the chance to meet, you were absolutely certain that he would love you like that.

There was that proverbial line that you knew never to cross. That didn’t stop you from crossing it in your head. You imagined a million different scenarios where you and Mathew ended up together, happy in either Long Island or British Columbia. Happy with or without children. You had even imagined a scenario where you had convinced him to adopt your favourite type of small dog, much to his chagrin. It was an issue because Mathew had mentioned a few times that he had various girlfriends--and even one boyfriend--so you knew you had to scale back your thoughts. You couldn’t steal him from someone else just to make yourself happy, as much as it pained you to admit that.

Every time you felt like you were ready to tell Mathew how you felt, your brain short circuited and the words never came to fruition. The conversations always shifted to the next topic too quickly for you to have any reason to say your piece about your feelings. It frustrated you every time and you wished you could get over your cold feet syndrome and just get it over with. Maybe in a different place, a different time, or a different life you’d be able to manage that. In this life, you’d be stuck in the infinite loop of never opening your mouth when the right moment came up because of cold feet syndrome.

You were fairly certain that if you opened your mouth and told Mathew how you felt, he would confess that he felt the same way. You were also fairly certain that Mathew would love you even more when he met you for the first time. That being said, you weren’t holding out hope. Hope of you ever opening your mouth and hope of Mathew confessing that he felt the same if you ever did open your mouth. Even though you were desperate to tell Mathew how you felt, there was a part of you that didn’t really want to know for sure how Mathew felt. You were so fragile about all of this that you couldn’t handle it if he rejected you. Then, you weren’t sure what the hell you would do if he felt the same way. Despite having fantasized about that moment for the better part of your entire friendship, you weren’t sure what to do if he actually said yes.

You didn’t really have to worry about any of that though. You had decided that you weren’t ever going to say anything. You would save confessing your feelings for a different place, a different time, or a different life. This life would be reserved for building a lasting friendship with Mathew. The friendship you had with Mathew was the best friendship you had had with anyone in a very long time. The last thing you wanted was to destroy it by bringing your romantic feelings into the mixture. As much as it pained you, you would push them aside for the greater good of the friendship.

You knew that you and Mathew would’ve worked out great as romantic partners but you couldn’t keep thinking about that. It would drive you to insanity. You had to think about how well you worked as friends and stick to those thoughts and only those thoughts.

As you thought happy thoughts about your friendship with Mathew, your cellphone began to ring in your pocket. You snapped out of your daze and pulled it out. You looked at the screen and smiled when you saw that it was Mathew calling. You answered without hesitation.

��Mathew, hi,” you said, a soft smile on your face.

Mathew swallowed, clicked his tongue, and sighed. You sat there, waiting patiently for Mathew to speak. After a few awkward moments of silence, you nearly dropped the phone when Mathew finally spoke the words you had been waiting to hear for years.

“I have feelings for you.”

okay so i know everyone has a different type and everything also i go like brain dead when asked to list specific things lmao. but every hockey player i like has either been introduced to me by someone i follow or a team i follow. (tyler seguin was my first love lmao)

but other than barzy & matty i’d definitely think that pierre luc dubois was one of the first i simped for. uhhh
