Today sure was a day for ruining Magneto's character huh....
First, Resurrection of Magneto depicted him without his tattoo, and then X Men 97 had him say that the Holocaust was about religion and that Jews oppressed him.
I hate it here.

One detail I appreciated from X-men 97's devastating episode "Remember It" is that it officially solidified Magneto as a Holocaust survivor.
When the original series was made in the 90s, censors were twitchy about cartoons referencing (even obliquely) the Nazis or their atrocities. That was why Magneto's backstory was a generic war-torn Eastern Europe, shown by that infamous scene where Xavier makes him relive the trauma.
Come this series, we do start getting allusions to Magneto's background; most notably during his speech to the UN.
But this image, especially with the inclusion of the patches, removes all ambiguity.

“It doesn’t make sense to keep Magneto a Holocaust survivor because he’d have to be like 100 years old” is a wild take to have about a fictional guy whose best friend ages at half-speed, whose secondary enemy is literally immortal, and who in the comics has a 12-pack at the age of 89. The time that has elapsed since the end of the Second World War is not actually an insurmountable obstacle

There was a time I would smite you all for what was done to Storm. But today, I have saved you from your own, for an old friend has challenged me to remember this view of Earth. How vast it is versus how small we make it. Charles Xavier entrusted me with his dream, and it does not ask you to love or embrace my kind as your own but merely to accept that this is a shared world with a common future, and that my kind, like yours, have the right to live in it.

"Oh to play by the rules and still they come for you."
Magneto went hard with that line.
