first of all, i need the stames wedding to go well. i need dancy wedding with a dog in a top hat part 2. nobody better die or cheat, there better be no explosions or serial killers present. just let them get married and be happy.

please either get rid of joel or give him a storyline that doesn't revolve around a woman. he needs a personality.

keep sienna and ethan together. stop making her sleep with warren. ethan is precious and they're cute together.

can the show remember that sienna and ste are besties and have her involved in the wedding planning.

let john paul be happy. he's been miserable for two years now.

Blood, Sex, and the American Dream: X review

I’m aware that this movie came out on March 18, 2022 which makes me a little late to do this review, but it’s better to be late than never covering this movie. The reason I haven’t covered this movie yet is because I didn’t have a Tumblr account or the “X” DVD yet. So, let’s just cut to the chase and start this review. I’m going to give you my spoiler free thoughts on this movie.

X is a 2022 slasher horror film directed by Ti West who also produced and edited this movie (The House of The Devil and The Sacrament). X is produced by Jared Connon, Scott Mescudi, Dennis Cummings, Jacob Jaffke, Harrison Kreiss, Ashley Levinson, Sam Levinson, Karina Manashil, Peter Phok, and Kevin Turen. The soundtrack is done by Tyler Bates and Chelsea Wolfe. The cast involves Mia Goth as Maxine “Max” Minx/Pearl, Jenna Ortega as Lorraine, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) as Jackson, Martin Henderson as Wayne, Owen Campbell as RJ, Brittany Snow as Bobby-Lynne, Stephen Ure as Howard, James Gaylyn as Sheriff Gentler, Simon Prast as Televangelist, Geoff Dolan as Deputy, Matthew J. Saville as Officer Mitchell, and Bryony Skillington as Store Clerk.

The plot:

A group of actors set out to make an adult film in rural Texas under the noses of their reclusive hosts---an elderly couple with a farm and boarding house for rent. But when the couple catches their young guests in the act, the cast finds themselves in a desperate fight for their lives in this tantalizing slasher from writer-director Ti West.

Positives:

One positive I have about this movie is the cast, each cast member played their parts perfectly…especially Mia Goth and Jenna Ortega. I think that every horror fan must have seen the Jenna Ortega scream scene in the trailer, and it gave me chills when I was watching that scene. That might have been one of the best screams I have ever heard…in my opinion. The characters were extremely likeable, and you feel bad when something awful happens to them…the movie also makes you sympathize with the villains in this movie…especially the character of Pearl.

The second positive I have about this movie was the special effects as it seems like every kill has been done practically which has been missing in modern horror films…okay not all modern horror films. The special effects in this movie are amazing and the makeup and special effects department deserve more credit. The elderly makeup on Mia Goth makes her look unrecognizable.

The third positive I have about X was the atmosphere as I feel like they nailed the 70’s aesthetic with the clothing choice, the cinematography, and the music. It felt like a 70’s-late 80’s slasher which is one of my favorite eras in horror history.

Negatives:

The only negative I have about X is that the motives of Pearl and Howard aren’t clear, we get hints throughout, but it doesn’t pay off. However, don’t let that negative affect your viewing of X as this movie is rewatchable.

My overall thoughts:

After watching this movie, I can say that this is an excellent throwback to late 70’s-early 80’s slashers. This is a fun movie, and it gives you likeable characters to keep you invested. Oh, and I forgot to mention that this movie keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I've loved each couple in the series as well as the way the characters have grown through each book. I think Chase may very well be the "family member" who has grown the most. He is just the sweetest, and I'm so glad he finally got his turn at love. He and Hannah have crazy good chemistry, and they're both so darned lovable that you can't help but root for them - even when one or the other is being difficult. They're roommates, so we get a bit of forced proximity, which is as fun as it is frustrating with these two. As I mentioned, this is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone. That said, I'd still recommend reading from the beginning because once you've met any of these characters, you're gonna want to know more about them. Regardless of trope or even reading order, this whole series is just one more reason I can't get enough of Melanie Moreland and her characters that are like old friends I can visit from time to time. What can make an already five star read even better? Stellar narration, which we always get from John Lane and Maxine Mitchell. Very good capture of Nat as Barbara! some shakiness throughout but not too bad. some washout is seen throughout but nothing enough to take away from the video. Nat is absolutely fantastic as Barbara and she proves to be the absolute best and most underrated cast member. Also has Will Blum as Otho, but only as Otho. Eric Anthony Johnson plays all the ensemble parts Will should be playing for the Otho track. This causes some issues in songs with big ensemble parts such as beautiful sound and the reprise where a clone is missing. Overall a fantastic capture of a 'new' Barbara u/s.

Talia and Brittney slay the house down together where I get goosebumps throughout.

3. what is ur fave genre?

it's rly hard to pinpoint a favorite! i think i tend to enjoy experimental or hybrid forms that express the marginalization or hybridity of the speaker?

more straightforward versions of this is octavia butler's earthseed religious texts interspersed in the story and leslie feinberg's use of the epistolary form to express what the narrator feels but cannot say. dictee by theresa hak kyung cha has a rly challenging mixed media and language form. carmen maria machado is a master of doing this in a fun very present-day way.

my faves tho r the ones that use culturally specific and usually oral storytelling forms like folktales and myth to tell previously stories. the woman warrior by maxine hong kingston is a straight example but the best are the gay ones i've already talked about: audre lorde's biomythography and larry mitchell's gay fairytale manifesto. real art!!

6. what books have u read in the last month?

read another section of zami by audre lorde it was about her time in mexico, rly magical.

recently bought a lesbian anthology called women on women edited by joan nestle and read a couple stories.

read the first couple pages of mexican gothic. read the first couple pages of i'm glad my mom died. read a few pages of gods of want by k-ming chang, specifically the story called "dykes"

i just got this is how you lose the time war and read the beginning of it! pretty prose, rly fun concept, excited to see how the story unfolds!

pls read human acts by han kang it will reach into ur chest and grab ur heart and crush it into little pieces, briefly separate ur spirit from ur body, connect u to something old ever-present and universal, and retwine it with ur physical form in a way that is wiser about the nature of structural violence and human pain and the persistence of loving memory. u will sob. i sure did.

20. what are things u look for in a book?

for reading it: original premise, good prose, interesting thematic elements, idk general vibes

for buying it: i care a lot about the cover actually. almost didn't buy janelle monae's book cuz i didn't like the cover design.
