(the above four are part of one series, and were recommended to me by @racfoam - you have excellent taste by the way. love the way Lomona wrote them. i was giggling, blushing, and fanning myself the whole time, and very invested in the series. the healthy and realistic growth of Harry and Voldemort’s relationship and the way they begin to care for and trust in each other as the story progresses is something that I really liked. i also appreciated the fact that Harry did not have to completely change himself or turn “Dark” - no offense at all to such stories - but instead always stayed true to himself throughout the story, he was always who he was at his core, he was Harry, with a very large capacity to love and see the best in people, and to forgive. Another thing I loved was their mutual respect, and also the healthy way in which they compromise on things. looking forward to the next story in the series!)

@drinkurkombucha's "Your New Aesthetic" and "Your Fractured Light" I'm combining this into one since it's a part one and part two, but I'm obsessed with these fics. I love this version of fictional!Matty so much and the writing is amazing.

"i think you think too much of me" by bliiinding. You have to have an AO3 account to read it, but it's wonderful. This particular version of fictional!Matty is grappling with gender and identity and I see a lot of myself at about 17/18/19 in it.

Lastly is "Making Headlines" by maydei which is a Hannibal fic and might be a little bit out of left field here, so to speak, but NBC's Hannibal is one of my favorite pieces of media I've watched and this fic is amazing.

13. What's a common writing tip that you almost always follow?

I think I've said this before, but I've never formally been taught creative writing and maintain that I am not actually a very good creative writer. I don't say that to fish for compliments, but there are a lot of things that I don't really know how to do or do well. That said, I make a point to use the active voice and vary sentence structure and word choice, especially when I write dialogue tags. One of the things I heard when I was learning how to write well in school was that the best authors read, and I do. I read fanfic, I read published fiction, poetry, non-fiction, academic articles, journalism, news, whatever, so long it's not behind a paywall, and I do think that makes me a better writer in many aspects.

16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?

Many, so many. I have an idea that I kind of love and am very excited about that hasn't made it out of my notes and into my drafts yet because it doesn't really have a super solid plot, just some dialogue, and a vibe. I have a moodboard and I just have figure out whats going to happen, but here's a snippet of it.

“You’re a fucking miracle,” George murmurs. “A wet dream. A fucking revelation. Divine. Sublime.” 

Matty groans an leans in to capture George’s mouth with his own, all teeth and tongue and want. “I love you,” he says, like George’s mouth is a confessional, like George himself is a confessional. 

“I love you, too,” George answers. He says it like Matty’s body is an alter. 

“I love you,” Matty repeats. Now it sounds like a prayer. 

George runs his hand though Matty’s hair, grabbing a fistful at the back of his head. Matty tilts his head, increasing the pressure and closes his eyes like it’s a euphoric feeling. 

“You like that, G?” Matty asks. “You like overpowering me, making me do what you want?” 

George huffs a laugh. “No one makes you do anything. I tried.” 

“You could,” Matty says, voice low and with an edge. “You could make me do anything you wanted. All you’d have to do is ask.” He sinks to his knees and rests his hands on Georges hips and looks up through his lashes, like he’s looking at something divine. “I’d kill for you. I’d die for you. I say I want divinity, I have it. I have divinity, absolution, deliverance. I have you.”

Recommendation: I was reminded of this fic this week for the simple reason that this fic - A Loveless AU that toes the lines of a soulmate AU and still somehow has ice skating - is so gorgeous, so detailed and so complete that it somehow got me to read one of my first manga.

On that note, you should not read Loveless. No one should probably read Loveless. But this fic is gorgeous regardless. The way that it gets into the concepts of love and belonging, of letting someone grow to be a part of your life even if you think they will not stay. It’s lovely. Worth an annual reread.

so here's a preview of the werewolf story with the sad, bratty regency twink, these are the rough opening paragraphs for any interested

Kellan stared out toward the woods laden with fresh snow. A chill bit at his nose and made him draw his cloak tighter around his body. Even with the lush fur lining he wasn't fully protected. His gloves were doing well enough, though they were becoming worn around their lovely stitching. Still, if he didn't leave the back garden he would be fine. Problem was that was something he wasn't sure he could do. In the gap between the high walls he found his eyes and his heart pulled toward the wilds. His stare lingered until the trees glowed in his vision, their ghosts burned behind his eyelids when he blinked.

The storms were never ending this winter. Every day they were buried further and further until not even the vanner horses could venture out. Wind did not find them, there was nothing to push the storm away. His father made him swear he would not leave their estate. It was too dangerous out there. Monsters would take him.

Even their grounds keeper Vanessa didn’t dare live in the carriage house at a time like this. She was invited to stay with the maids and other staff when the first snows fell. That was why Kellan was so close to just running out into the woods now. There was no one to stop him. Any who could see him would have to trudge through the fresh piles of snow nearly knee-deep and they would never get to him in time.

He looked back toward his home looming in the distance. Maybe he was cursed. Some witch visited when he was a baby, she cured him of a weak heart, but she probably cursed him in that same breath. A wicked and spiteful urge to never settle, to never be happy.

Kellan walked right up to the opening in the walls where the gate was torn off last week. It would be replaced as soon as the snow let up, his father said. He ran his hand over the torn metal of the only remaining hinge and the place where the stone was ripped out from the force of whatever creature took the gate. Part of him hoped it had been something trying to come take him, come claim him.
