I recently went through the Auntie Ethel quest in BG3 and immediately remembered your Roisia cooing over Conner. <3

AAAA! I'm so flattered you thought of Roisia during that scene!!

They've polished up Connor's zombie model since I made that comic, so here's Roisia's updated commentary.

I still have no idea how I'm supposed to correctly use non-lethal force in this game because in the two instances I've done it the quest calls me an idiot and tells me I failed.

A rough outline of Lyra's encounter with the Hag in Act I, while it's fresh in my mind.

Context: Lyra's terrified of hags. I'd call it an excessive fear but given what fey can do in this world it's probably a fair concern.

Boys ask the brainworm crew to help save their sister Mayrina and Lyra's kind of... not super on board. Sounds like your sister Mayrina was an idiot. That's a personal problem.

Karlach and Wyll in particular take exception to this. Of course we're going to help save their sister Mayrina.

Lyra sort of needs them on her side. She's also seen what the Combustible Tiefling can do when angry and weighing out the competing threats, fine, ok, we can go save the girl. But Lyra's going to complain the whole time. Don't expect her to stick her neck out for you idiots when this goes south.

Friends venture into the happy blooming rainbow sun swamp.

There's a sheep here. Something's not quite right about the sheep. This is a menacing sheep. Lyra makes the intelligent decision to not pet it, and the slightly less intelligent decision to try to kill it. Either it's a threat or it's dinner. Or both! She's not waiting around to find out.

Sheep explodes into a Redcap. The illusion disappears in a blink; this is actually a dark scary cursed swamp. Lyra and friends are Surprised. Redcaps are Surprised. Only Karlach gets to make a move the first round.

"Auntie Ethel" appears unaware of their discovery. She welcomes them into her tree stump house. She offers to fix the tadpole problem. Lyra's kind of not super on board with this. She Very Politely declines.

But hey, Mayrina's here! She seems fine. That's cool. Ethel snaps her fingers and sends the sister off gods know where. Oh well, we tried, guess that's that!

Friends sneak into the secret tunnel and find the Room Full of Horrors. Ethel finds them and offers some fairly vivid threats about eternal suffering. Lyra feels like this is a pretty good reason to Leave While They Can.

Friends sneak past the masked guards. Almost. Karlach and Shadowheart get spotted at the waterfall and pulled into initiative. While trying to clear a path for them, Gale somehow manages to set the ladder on fire which really limits their navigation options.

Ensues is a tense game of hopping down the narrow, poison filled ledges while trying to hide from pursuing curse victims who Lyra is explicitly not allowed to kill.

She hates this. She hates everyone.

One catches up and corners Lyra. Lyra decides her life is more important than Karlach's inane sense of heroism and kills them anyway.

Initiative ends, just in time to walk into the hag's sanctum. She decides to kill them. She also decides to stick Mayrina in a flaming cage. She also summons her masked victims. Including the dead one that plops into the dirt in front of the party - which would have been amusing if they weren't now fighting for their lives.

Lyra drops into stealth and vanishes for several turns. Most involved assume she's nope'd out.

Gale Witch Bolts the Hag. Which feels a bit lackluster until she summons a mess of illusory doubles and teleports. But his Witch Bolt is still attached to her. So everyone knows which one is the real one.

Since everyone is trying to kill the Hag, the masked victims wreak havoc. A tense battle ensues and most of Shadowheart's turns are being spent healing. Gale keeps getting vials of poison thrown in his face and needing help.

Lyra appears out of nowhere to hurl a water bottle on Mayrina's cage which somehow extinguishes the massive flames. Lyra is swearing excessively.

The Hag yoinks Mayrina and attempts to impersonate her in another "gotcha" moment. Since Shadowheart recently hit the Hag with radiant damage, she's got a glowing dot over her head. So everyone know which one is really the Hag. Again.

Hag begins spamming Vicious Mockery. Masked thralls are still lobbing poison and curses at everyone. Shadowheart's running out of spells. Everyone is Very Hurt. I am concerned about wiping.

Hag is also Very Hurt. She decides to negotiate.

Because Shadowheart is the closest to her, Shadowheart gets to talk to her. The Hag offers them a boon if they let her leave with Mayrina.

Lyras immobilized by Fear halfway across the room so she doesn't get to have an opinion.

Shadowheart rolls to force the hag to give up Mayrina AND the boon in order to be spared.

-1 persuasion Shart rolls a Nat 20.

Angry Hag rips half her scalp off and throws it to the ground. Says to eat it to get the boon. It has mushrooms on it. Disgusting. Lyra's definitely not going to eat that. Then leaves.

Hag does NOT call off her masked thralls.

//turns on nonlethal damage

I've played this before so I know which specific mask can actually be saved. This isn't relevant to the characters who DONT know that, but it's context.

Knock out two masks. Including the one that can be saved.

Gale gets downed in a poison cloud. Automatically fails his death saves. Dies.

Gale's necrotic aura kills the unconscious, saveable masked thrall.

Battle finally ends.

Mayrina is FURIOUS. She needed that hag to bring her husband back to life! The Hag was going to adopt Mayrina's unborn baby and give it a good life.

Lyra is IRRITATED. Bitch how can you be this stupid. That Hag was not going to help you. I am bleeding out of 30 places and now I have to waste a revivify scroll on the toxic wizard because of you and you're not even grateful.

The girls are fighting.

Mayrina stomps off. Lyra makes a strangling gesture with her hands. This is definitely the kind of person she would have robbed blind if Karlach wasn't standing over her shoulder.

Friends loot the Hag's sanctum.

Lyra finds the magic stick intended to "revive" Connor.

Despite her fear of Hags, Lyra is relatively sure this stick will invoke consequences for Mayrina, and Mayrina only. Lyra is feeling petty. Lyra gives Mayrina the stick.

Connor comes back to "life" as a mindless zombie.

Mayrina is horrified.

Lyra gets to say "I told you so"

Mayrina refuses to let the brainworm crew kill the zombie. Despite being loudly informed that it's a zombie. It's not Connor. She isn't listening.

She decides to keep "Connor" and go to Baldur's Gate to look for a cure. Lyra is equally horrified and impressed by the woman's commitment to stupidity.

They return to the front of the Hags sanctum to try to free others trapped in their magic prisons. Lyra breaks a mirror and is immediately cursed.

Lyra is outvoted and friends use one of their very valuable Basilisk Oils to cure the petrified man. He's grateful. He also doesn't have any fucking gold.

Lyra has had a Very Bad No Good Horrible Day. She is within an inch of her life. She's been bane'd. She did not get paid. She did not get a boon. She has wasted several valuable scrolls, potions, and hours trying to help a woman who didn't want to be helped and who is definitely going to get killed by someone else later.

Who invented this hero business. This sucks ass.
