Happy 88th Birthday, Dad—our 2nd birthday without you. It never gets any easier but it stings a little less. The weekend was spent celebrating you by being surrounded with music, great talented musician friends and lots of laughter and fun. While reminiscing about you, there were conversations with great Dads who also share a love of music with their daughters, and stories about how music as an expression of love intertwines through generations in families. Before I was a Maker of Things my Dad taught me everything about building and making. We built “the barn” together. Upon completion, my Dad hung a terracotta sun on the side. The sun was host to many bird families and a source of great pleasure over the years. It was the very last thing I packed when “the barn” was torn down. Yesterday my mover handled the new office move solo while I worked wrapping up tax season. As a surprise he hung my Dad’s sun in the same exact spot as it used to hang on “the barn”. I mean…how did he know? What a tiny sweet thoughtful thing to do that brings me great joy.
