Micronâs Mind-Blowing 256GB DDR5-8800 Sticks OR Unveiled

This week, Micron said that samples of its 256 GB multiplexer combination (MCR) DIMMs, the companyâs largest memory modules to date, have started. Targeting next-generation servers, these new DDR5-based MCRDIMMs are specifically designed to work with Intelâs Xeon Scalable âGranite Rapidsâ CPUs, which are expected to accommodate up to 12 or 24 memory slots per socket. When these modules are used, datacenter computers with 3 TB or 6 TB of memory may be enabled. The total ranks of these modules allow for DDR5-8800 effect data speeds.
Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron, said in prepared comments for the companyâs earnings conference this week, âwe also started sampling our 256 GB MCRDIMM module, which further enhances performance and increases DRAM content per server.â
At NVIDIAâs GTC conference, where server manufacturers and consumers alike are busy creating new servers for the next generation of AI accelerators, Micron not only announced a sample of these modules but also showcased them. Somehow, our friends at Tomâs Hardware were able to take a few images of Micronâs DDR5-8800 MCR DIMMs, which have 256 GB of capacity.
Micron seems to offer two variations of their 256 GB DDR5-8800 MCRDIMMs: a standard-height module that uses 2Hi stacked packages and a larger module with 80 DRAM chips spread on both sides. Both are designed to support various server configurations, with the standard-height MCRDIMM addressing 1U systems, and are based on monolithic 32 Gb DDR5 ICs. Roughly 20W of power is used by the taller variant, which is expected given that a 128 GB DDR5-8000 RDIMM uses roughly 10W while in DDR5-4800 mode. Iâm not sure how much power the version using the 2Hi packages needs, but I would assume it would be a little hotter and more difficult to cool.
Dual-rank memory modules called Multiplexer Combined Ranks (MCR) DIMMs include a unique buffer that enables both ranks to function concurrently. By allowing the two physical ranks to function as separate modules operating in parallel, this buffer essentially doubles the performance of a single module by enabling the concurrent retrieval of 128 bytes of data from both ranks per clock cycle (as opposed to 64 bytes per cycle for regular memory modules). Of course, the buffer operates with the host at a very fast data transfer rate to send the obtained data to the host CPU since it maintains the physical interface of normal DDR5 modules, which is 72 bits. These rates, which in this instance approach 8800 MT/s, are higher than the typical DDR5 requirements.
Although MCR DIMMs add a little bit of complexity to memory modules compared to standard RDIMMs, they improve the memory subsystemâs performance and capacity without adding extra memory modules, which makes server motherboard construction simpler. These modules have the potential to be very important in allowing the next generation of servers to manage applications that are becoming more and more demanding, especially in the AI space.
Indeed, Micron has unveiled a brand-new line of DDR5 high-capacity memory sticks with astounding 256GB of memory and DDR5-8800 speeds. These MCRDIMM modules are intended for use with next-generation servers, particularly those that have high memory requirements, like AI systems.
These new 256GB DDR5-8800 Sticks have the following important features
Huge capacity
Each stick has 256GB, which is a lot more than what is presently on the market.
High speed
They can transfer data at DDR5-8800 speeds very quickly.
Double-height design
Not all computers can accommodate these because they are physically bigger than memory sticks.
20 watts of power consumption
within reasonable bounds, though it is a little higher than some other DDR5 memory sticks.
Variety of flavors
Various tastes To support various server configurations, Micron is providing both standard and double-height versions of these MCRDIMMs.
Overall, the speed and capacity of these new Micron memory sticks represent a major improvement. For data centers and other applications where a large amount of memory and processing power are needed, they are ideal.

FAQS
What is the capacity of the 256GB DDR5-8800 Sticks?
The memory sticks are the largest DDR5 memory module that Micron has manufactured to date, with a staggering capacity of 256GB.
What is the speed of the 256GB DDR5-8800 Sticks?
The memory sticks have a speed of DDR5-8800, which is pretty quick. This implies that they have a high data transfer rate, which is crucial for demanding applications like high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.
What form factor do the memory sticks use?
The memory sticks are taller than typical DDR4 memory modules since they are double-height modules. They contain a lot more memory chips, which explains why. Not all computers can accommodate them.
Are there different variations of these memory sticks available?
Indeed, Micron provides these memory sticks in a variety of flavors; however, specifics regarding the variants are not yet available. There might be versions that are only one height or modules with varying capacities.

A Date of Triumph and Tragedy
Hello from my office at home, It has been a long week, and it seems just when I think I have some things figured out, I donât. The fall (and late summer too) have been incredibly busy, to the point of taxing, but I am maintaining. Maybe not as well as I wish, but the proverbial head is above the surface (whatever you do, do not turn your head!!). The past weeks and months have been focused on 50âŚ

Mazzy's Log: 50425.18 - Until I Return
Read this log before starting this one.
Well! The day has finally come. It's with utter excitement and nervousness to announce that I ship off MCRD San Diego bright and early tomorrow morning. I will get stretched out from the very core of my physical being and transformed into something I never thought I would ever be capable of becoming. I'm honored to take on the treacherous path to becoming a Marine and the second woman in my family to embark on the journey.
I want to thank you all for being so kind and lovely to me. I've had the time of my life with all of the fanart I have admired, the fanfiction I have savored, the edits I relished, and many other creative mediums which I have gleefully reblogged to my little museum of a blog. But what made it all so enjoyable were the beautiful people who were dedicated to their love for the Trek fandom and the way they spelt out their affection for the characters through their talent. The real fandom is all in the friends we have made along the way. I have had the immense privilege with interacting with some amazing people at KiScon as well some legendary figures of the Trek fandom and it was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything.
I've never been public with my issues due to my desire of maintaining a mostly positive presence online and to use my internet space only as a means to distract myself and feel safe after traumatic events, overstimulation, despair, anxiety, and moodswings. This fandom is responsible for helping me stay afloat while I was going through very rough times in my life. Last year when I launched my blog and began writing Spirk fics, I was at an all time low. I was working from paycheck to paycheck, stuck in a thankless job while living under the same roof with dysfunctional family members. There were times where even I faced some life-threatening situations, none of which I will go into detail of. If you've ever interacted with me, you never knew it, but you gave me a bit of purpose and the courage to tap into my creative side after many years of not writing or creating art. Even if it was a brief interaction, it added to the experience and it built me up to where I am today. Now after months of hard work and sacrifice, I'm in a much better living situation and in the proper headspace to commit myself to the self-reflection and healing I deserve.
I joined the military after giving half a decade to civilian life since becoming a legal adult, and now I'll be using it as a means to push myself to the highest potential and to seize opportunities I never would have had otherwise.
In the mean time, please enjoy the art and fanfics I have left behind. Rest assured, there will be more to come while I'm on active duty!
And I feel odd for asking, but I would love it if anyone who read this would leave me some nice things in my ask box so I can have something good to come home to: fanart, fanfiction, podfics, filks, edits, memes, Star Trek news, etc. Hell, you can even use my ask box as a diary and just share about your day or send me songs you like or drafts from your WIP folder. If you want to talk about your own military experience or any friends/family members who have served, I highly welcome that too. Send me anything! Just as long as it's not hate, gore, porn (spicy Spirk/Spones/McSpirk fanart or fanfics are obviously exempt from this and no tag is off limits), or anything you wouldn't send in your right mind.
I promise to return here an honorable and distinguished Marine.
Live long and prosper.
Semper Fi, MAZARINE A.S.C.

Private First Class Ralph Henry Johnson (January 11, 1949 â March 5, 1968) was a Marine who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for heroism during the Vietnam War.
He was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve and was discharged to enlist in the regular Marine Corps on July 2, 1967.
Upon completion of recruit training with the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, MCRD San Diego in September 1967, he was transferred to Camp Pendleton. He underwent individual combat training with Company Y, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, and basic infantry training with the Basic Infantry Training Company, 2nd Infantry Training Regiment in November 1967. He was promoted to private first class on November 1, 1967.
In January 1968, he arrived in the Republic of Vietnam and served as a reconnaissance scout with Company A, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division.
On March 5, 1968, while on Operation Rock, a four-day operation by the 3rd Battalion 7th Marines in the âArizona Territoryâ northwest of An Hoa Combat Base, his 15-man reconnaissance patrol was attacked by enemy forces on Hill 146 in the Quan Duc Duc Valley. When a hand grenade landed in the fighting hole he shared with fellow Marines, he yelled a warning and hurled his body over the explosive charge. Absorbing the full impact of the blast, he was killed.
A complete list of his medals and decorations includes the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Vietnamese Military Merit Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, formerly the Charleston VA Medical Center, was renamed in honor of him. His Medal of Honor, along with his Medal of Honor citation and a portrait of him, is framed and on public display at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.
The Navy announced that a new Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer would be named USS Ralph Johnson.
His name is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

âI focus on the pain, the only thing thatâs real.â
caleb ashmore
Age: 37 Gender & Pronouns: Male, He/Him Occupation: Carpenter Neighborhood: Dicken
biography
tw: depression, parental death, ptsd
It was a strange thing, to miss a person you could hardly remember. Maybe it was cellular, a biological cue card that Caleb couldnât shake. Heâd only been two years old when his mother died. What he remembered felt abstract. A single memory, of a now blurry face, tucking him into bed. He thought he could remember her smile. The woman in photographs and home videos felt like a stranger. Like they were two different women entirely - the mother who had gone missing, and a stranger who answered to the same name.
It hadnât taken Calebâs father six months to get engaged to his future second wife. By the time Caleb had turned four, he had a new step-mother, and a baby brother. The timelines were⌠dubious. What Caleb could remember, what were truly the more early and formative memories of his young life, was the pomp and circumstance of his brotherâs arrival. From the moment Gabriel had been born, he had become the apple of his fatherâs eye. A line in the sand had been drawn - the prodigal son, and the spare.
The best times in Calebâs life were the months spent with his motherâs parents. Every summer, Dr. Ashmore was more than happy to ship Caleb off from June through August. Calebâs grandparents were salt of the earth people, and the only real taste of family life Caleb would ever get. It was no surprise that Caleb was aimless in life - there was no great initiative from his father or step-mother for him to do, or be anything⌠So he didnât. And those short summer months, while influential, was too slim a window to steer Caleb down the âright pathâ. In school he was often suspended for fighting, and, despite a high aptitude, never found the motivation to turn in his homework. His options by graduation were alarmingly limited. After a year of kicking up dirt, Caleb would elect to choose a familiar path - the US Marines. His grandfather has served with the Marines in Vietnam, signing up before his draft number had been called. As the only real positive male influence in Calebâs life, it seemed like the perfect way to honor the man who had tried to do his best by his late daughterâs only child.Â
Calebâs grandfather was less than enthused by the choice, which shocked Caleb. Maybe because heâd wanted more for him, or heâd wanted Caleb to want more out of life, but it was not the enthusiastic reception Caleb had expected. His father had been thrilled, which in hindsight was not the compliment it had felt at the time, but, still. With hurt feelings unresolved, Caleb reported to MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina for basic training.
His first four years in the Marine Corps was marked by intense mental and physical fitness - Caleb learned what his limits were, and how quickly he could surpass them. The rigors of the Corps killed the boy in Caleb so the man could live - and free from any real identity, he could be molded into the perfect infantryman.Â
That was, until on leave from his first contract and awaiting assignment for his second tour of duty, Caleb met Grace Goodwin. He was ashamed to admit that at 22, he hadnât much experience with women. There were not many honest opportunities for him over the years, and while he had failed to âseal the dealâ with Grace that night, heâd gotten something far more promising, an address to write home to. A practice that had become akin to a prayer. Caleb hadnât ever been so verbose in his life, but found in Grace the perfect muse to spill his guts to. He wrote candidly of the horrors of war, or the boredom of encampment in LeJeune. He poured over her dissertations of life as a college student, living vicariously through her days in college, waiting for the moment he would be afforded enough time to travel home to Ann Arbor, and see if the real thing was as emotionally deep as their writing had been.
In an instant, Grace had become the most important person in his life, and the promise of coming home to her kept him honest, and far less reckless than he had been at the start. He wrote to her from corners of the world he couldnât point out on a map, steadfast in the idea that one day, when his duty was done, they might build a life together.Â
And, after 16 years, Caleb retired from the Marines, returning home to Ann Arbor, and to Grace, for good. The steadiness she provided kept his head above water, particularly as he struggled to find out what life was to be outside of the institution that had run his life from the time he was 19. It helped to see his grandparents, though they were much slower than he had remembered when his service had started. It was his grandfather who had encouraged him to go to the local VFW, and more than that, to seek counseling through the VA. Similarly, it was also his grandfather who helped him in finding a passion for woodworking - a talent that enabled him to support himself comfortably.
While life was far from perfect, and Caleb struggled with acclimating to civilian life, he had enough to hold on to. And that, while sometimes frightening, was more than heâd ever had before.
CALEB ASHMORE has the face claim of BRANDON SKLENAR and is written by DARBY.

September 7th 2023 | Cores for Heroes Submission | M. Ford | 1963 Beetle
I served in the USMC from 05-09. I went through boot camp at MCRD San Diego and School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton CA. I was sent to 7th Marines in 29 palms the end of January and February 14th we left for Iraq. I had to learn everything on the go, baptism by fire. My 1st tour was in a town called Husaybah Iraq, on the boarder of Syria, and the Euphrates river. Was a wild west kind of town. My 2nd tour was in a small town called Kubaysah, just outside of Hit Iraq. My journey took me to Baghdad to testify against two bad guys we caught throwing grenades at our patrols. The best part of that trip was swimming in Sadam Hussain's pool, and i have the picture to prove it! My 3rd and last tour was in Karma and NE Fallujah, sadly having to leave my post early I was sent home due to my Dad's untimely passing. Upon arrival back in the States I also lost my great grandmother within two days of being home, grateful I was able to tell her goodbye, wish I could have had that closure with my Dad. My Dad and Uncle Dave brought me up with a love of cars and Racing. My first car was a 69 bug that I drove while in HS and sold it before I joined the USMC. I regret selling it to this day and no pictures remain of it. My favorite past-time was cruising in my 69 bug all over the Columbia River Gorge corridor and county back roads. After moving from Oregon to Texas I decided it was time to build something. So I found a 1963 that I am currently restoring from the ground up. The theme for this bug will be USMC, going to call it the "Teuful Hunden" bug or as most people know it "Devil Dog". It will be painted red, with gold doors and rims, the Marine Corps colors. This build is really helping me find parts of me I left over seas. It's going to be a long build being a disabled veteran and on a budget. I have been ordering all the new body panels first. Was going to order a pro beam with disk brakes and a Freeway flyer with disk brakes from Air kewld but having a chance to win them is really awesome of you guys. Thanks for the opportunity and your time. M. Ford USMC
M. Ford is entered into our Cores for Heroes Program here - https://www.airkewld.com/Cores-for-Heroes-Program-s/2532.htm
To date, we have 12 submissions to win and we have raised $445 dollars of our $10,000 goal.
In our honest opinion, the US Armed Force members, are so under-appreciated. The PRO's are finally in a place to put a plan together that helps everyone that participates, but more importantly, those who served or serving.
Details will slightly change as we get more context, but here's the idea.
I want to give back to those who have fought for our freedoms, regardless of our political beliefs. I didn't fight for my country but my father did and he is fighting PTSD, mental disorders, agent orange, etc., etc. I get to build products for the greatest clients in the world because of it. So, how do I make something happen?
The PRO's need cores. The AirkewldArmy has cores. Within the AirkewldArmy community, reside members of the US Armed Forces that want/need/could use a boost in their life, whether it is financially or upgrades to their favorite VW.
To give some context on our Core Program, the PRO's need certain parts to make our PRObuilt Line of Classic Volkswagen Drive-Train Components. In the past, the PRO's would print out a prepaid shipping label and rebate an order if our client/s sent that core in and it checked out. Payment would be reimbursed to the client, store credit or trade for something else, would take place. With a unique but small twist, a BIG change can make a humongous difference.
If our current or past clients, the AirkewldArmy, sent their cores in, based on a value proposition, the PRO's would give them the opportunity to win two ways. The first, for every $10 in core value, would be one entry on a quarterly drawing to win Airkewld Swag, like work shirts, tee's, hats, stickers and air fresheners, $100 gift cards to Airkewld.com or even a $500 Visa/Airkewld gift card. The second, for every $10 in core value, once the PRO's accrue $10,000 in cores, the PRO's select a Hero, to receive a Complete Airkewld Drive-Train Package or $10,000.00 (Our CEO would fly to them and personally hand them the check), delivered to their door, FREE of charge. Heroes would enter by telling their story, both about their military experience and passion for their Classic Volkswagen.
Airkewld receives usable cores. The AirkewldArmy wins FREE Stuff. Together, the PRO's and the AirkewldArmy show appreciation to someone who deserves better, our Military Heroes.
Who's ready to make a difference today?
