MCU Watchthrough Masterlist
The beautiful @kittypryde2013 was getting me, into the mcu, we're going through in chronological order, so no spoilers please! Also spoilers for following rated shows/movies below the cut. I know the media is hella old still "">_< Also this is my rating/line up of it so far!
Characters Rankings :
1. Steve Rodgers (My husbanddd)
2. Vision
3. Black Widow (my wife <33)
4. Wanda
5. Falcon
6. Hawkeye
7. Tony (Iron Man)
8. Daredevil (Also my husband)
9. Nick Fury
10. War Machine
11. Thor
12. Gamora
13. Rocket
14. Star Lord
15. Drax
16. Groot
17. Hulk
18. Captain Marvel <we'll get to her later
Movie Tier-List
S tier: the best of the club
- Captain America 1st avenger
< amazing loved everything about it
- Iron Man
< I love seeing a rich man humbled and thrown around to do good, rip cave inventer man I loved you and cried like a baby
- Iron Man 3
< Tony gets cucked and again I love watching Tony get thrown around he's a pathetic Lil guy and I love him. Plus he momentarily father's a child around Christmas, and gives him hella gifts. Ptsd, as someone with diagnosed cpstd, is bad, poor dude I'm sorry, and I feel like it was good representation. PLUS PEPPER IS A CERTIFIED BADASS and there's robot on robot on robot fighting action. It's frankly a masterpiece.
- a funny thing happened on the way to thors hammer
>It was Phil being Phil I love Phil and I'd have his babies
- Captain America winter soldier
<will have own separate rant)
- Guardians of the galaxy vol 2
<Yondu's death always makes me cry like a fucking baby.
A tier: a good superhero movie
- The Avengers
< they somehow messed up black widows and captain America's character a little bit, but I'll excuse it cause 1) loki was there 2) Tony stark got run through the wringer and I genuinely love seeing him thrown around like a ragdoll. It's adorable and amusing. 3) it was genuinely so good and Hulk was recast and now bearable. But as my gf says 'They're all white I guess'
- The consultant
<Tony was sent in to purposefully fumbled a deal
- Iron Man 2
< realy good brother was going through the wringer in comes War Machine! Woo!
- Guardians of the Galaxy
<was alright I forgot how bi coded starlord is which is funny because Chris Pratt is kinda walking garbage. Also it was very sweet and heroic of Srarlord to save Gamora.
- Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D S1
<will have own separate rant
- Daredevil S1
<will have own separate rant
B tier : mediocre but still willing to watch again
- All Hail the King
< Actor pretending to be a terrorist leader gets jailbreaked, kidnapped, and brought to actual terrorist leader. It was interesting and funny in a ironic kinda way.
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
< not as good as Winter soldier or the last Avengers movie. Tony and Bruce? creates an AI Ultron who is his daddy's son to be fair. Weird Bruce/Natasha thing that apparently ended just as abruptly as it began. Natasha's writing was wack and there was plausible reference to her being a monster for not being able to have children which is crazy... Wanda and Pietro (rip) are introduced properly, adored their dynamic. Unfortunately everyone was super weird to this 16 year old kids who were hella experimented on and traumatized their whole life. Vision is also introduced and I love him and his pure curiosity to the world around him and his quippy personality.
C tier: mediocre but good-ish wouldn't watch again tho
- Thor
<not a fan of cosmic plot lines, and had somewhat l boring side plots.
- Thor: A Dark World
<not a fan of cosmic plot lines but hey there's loki and brotherly bonding over being mama boys occurs and it's kinda sweet and humanized loki. I was bitter after Coulson's death and I hated the crazy Scientist that ran nakedness through stonehedge for being alive. Also the side plot of this movie was awful and horrendously boring imo.
D tier: fuck you in particular (fails as a movie big time)
- Captain Marvel
< own separate post is up, my beloathed, captain marvel
- Item 47
<boring plus main character in it is a nazi.
F tier: would have rather been at work
- The incredible hulk (nothing incredible about it, made me the incredible sulk)
<was like watching wet peices of cardboard interact.

hi! my name is benny. i'm a new marvel fan looking to make some friends who are fans of rarepairs and individual characters as much as the popular ships!!
i'm a fan of both the movies and the comics, though truthfully, deep down, i think i prefer the comics, despite having only read a single deadpool run 😭 but i've read some other stuff here and there, and i wanna read more soon! i have been having a lot of fun on my first MCU watchthrough as well though! it would be awesome to have some more people to talk about it with :)
some of my favorite characters so far are spider-man, deadpool, iron man, and black widow, but there really hasn't been a protagonist i've disliked so far! honestly i really hope to get good at writing fic n stuff for a wide swath of characters, i've been liking most of them !! i'm also a gigantic multishipper, so don't feel scared about liking any ships around me :3
my favorite movie so far is probably tied between captain america: winter soldier, and iron man 2 ^-^ if you wanna be mutuals feel free to follow and i'll follow back :3

here are my next batch of mcu watchthrough thoughts bc i’ve been putting off doing some of my more recent ones for too long n need to get back in the groove (homecoming, ragnarok, antman n the wasp)
spiderman: homecoming
- 6/10
- i went into this movie expecting to like it more than i actually did. maybe my opinion on it was dampened a little by spider-man’s intro in civil war, maybe spiderman simply isn’t a superhero i was ever gonna be super invested in / have much nostalgia over bc ive never watched the other spiderman movies, but in the end i was just like eh. the movie was pretty okay
- it had kind of a slow start for me for some reason? like it felt like it took a hot minute for me to really get invested in what was going on. i liked tom holland’s performance as peter quite a bit. the jittery cheerful nervousness he radiated throughout the entire movie really emphasised to you how young he is. n im always soft for a somewhat coming of age style of story so i thought the way they developed his personal struggle of wanting to take on more of a responsibility as a superhero was good.
- i liked most of the scenes he had where he was with his peers (like ned and liz and mj). i liked the teen drama aspect of it!
- tony stark comes off looking really REALLY bad in this movie. whether this is a positive or negative thing depends on the person i think. i accepted him as this asshole mentor figure peter looked up to n there was kind of cruel irony to that that i thought i could enjoy but i just think there’s something also really annoying about how much this is his movie as well as spider-man’s yknow?
- i don’t necessarily think the movie was ever telling us “oh tony was absolved of his whole behaviour/way he treated peter at the end” but i also don’t think it was not Not telling us that. which. is something
- also kinda funny how he’s technically responsible for the villain of this movie huh
- speaking of villain of this movie. now there’s a violent revolutionary-esque villain who i thought was done poorly lmao. what’s up with that.? he does all this stuff pretty much exclusively for money n then the moment he gets the chance he’s down for killing a 15 year old? a 15yo he later learns is in fact his daughters friend? and also he’s a working class man who was put out of a job bc a billionaire took over it? crazy. wild. blagh
- actually you know what i kind of liked the not-resolution peter gets with liz where she’s just like i hope you figure yourself out or whatever. it’s a nice ‘this is not the end of the story’ kind of stopping point i think.
- i feel like with how much i mentioned i didn’t like i should give this a lower rating but the thing is i don’t even think the movie is genuinely that bad i just don’t think it’s for me ig. also i wrote this review a couple days late so ive probably also just forgotten a lot of the parts i actually liked when i originally gave it the rating lol
thor: ragnarok
- 8.5/10
- i went into this movie with a bit of a hater attitude not bc i remember disliking it when i first watched it (im pretty sure i enjoyed it back then) but bc i have personal beef with the way a character is dealt with due to the tone of this movie. is this fair? definitely not. but what can you do
- this movie is funny. its lighthearted. it wants to make you laugh. and i will admit at the start i was a little bit jarred at the departure from the tone of the previous two thor movies that felt a lot more serious/dramatic to me n how in comparison this one felt kind of silly and. irreverent? the first 20ish minutes especially during the thor narration moments i was like uh oh am i gonna realise i genuinely don’t like this movie now. that’s unfortunate especially when i know it’s such a fan favourite…
- never fear the worry was all for naught. this movie is fucking hilarious and a riot and does the work to make the comedic tone WORK for you even despite whatever misgivings you may have. it’s a pretty good time lads. can’t think of the last movie i laughed this much with my brother at. also can’t believe how many lines/scenes i didn’t realise i remembered from it!
- thor and loki as the crux of this film were soooooo good. so much of the humour and desire to heckle the screen i got out of every time loki appeared on screen n opened his stupid godamn mouth. he’s SO hilarious as a character to me here. guy who can’t help but be incredibly awful always bc it’s just in his nature. and thor as ‘guy who’s finally catching onto this guy’s thing but also dealing with other stuff at the moment that’s really REALLY important too so he’s just kinda. exasperated at him’ throughout the entire thing. it’s pretty great
- rip to odin. hela isn’t the most exciting villain in the mcu to date to me but she gets the job done and looks good while doing it. i like her bitterness over being forgotten a lot. fathers really ain’t shit huh girl
- valkyrie had really good on screen chemistry with thor AND loki AND honestly bruce as well. she was a great character to bounce dynamics off of our already established favs. she had a cynicism n parallelisms to hela that were also really interesting to notice to me tbh
- have i mentioned how funny this movie is? this movie is really funny. soooo many great comedic moments. can’t even begin to list them all
- bruce banner’s portrayal in this film isn’t my favourite but i’ve come to realise that frankly the only portrayal i truly loved of him was in the 2012 avengers movie n that is what ive been hanging on to this entire time ive been thinking of him as my fav so. i probably just need to get over it at this point. mark ruffalo did a good job anyways. he’s a fun guy to me.
- also like not to be crazy but i was actually getting vibes between bruce n valkyrie n thor honestly. does anyone else see this vision with me. guys i know i can make it happen pls dont walk away
- the final fight was big n flashy n dramatic n fun! i liked that they had to induce the apocalypse to win against hela. something about prophecies not being able to be circumvented no matter what really gets me. probably my pjo brain still in effect
- the moral of the people being what makes asgard was sweet n probably pretty relevant considering this movie was made by taika waititi. i get the messaging the messaging is good! topical!
- thor ragnarok i’m sorry for coming into u expecting the worst you were a really fun watch actually thank u SO much for ur service
ant-man and the wasp
- 7.75/10
- is ava starr latina?? the flashback shows her growing up in argentina i think. with thunderbolts coming out soon n her being a sort of hero there does that make her the first latino hero in the mcu ??? of course it would be in ant man that she’s introduced. most latino mcu movie series fr
- anyways i liked this one more than the first ant man movie. this one was also pretty funny! and i’ll admit i have a soft spot for it bc my brother loves ant man a lot as well. also this movie is like amazingly great ammunition to prove how fucking crazy the sokovia accords truly are. twenty years in prison if scott violates his two years of house arrest?? are you people fucking insane? HES NOT EVEN FR AN ENHANCED GUY LIKE THAT
- this movie was really easy to follow. and by that i mean at several points i was like oh that’s quite an interesting lingering moment you want me to take note of. this is gonna come up later/become a relevant plot device/lead to some kind of nicely planted plot twist eh. and then it always was! n it made me feel accomplished n clever! good set up and pay off feeling throughout the entire thing. i can appreciate that.
- scott is an inherently sort of charming dorky character to me n i think he has great chemistry with everyone he interacts with pretty much. he bounces off best in scenes with his daughter with hope with luis and honestly. with agent woo as well.
- there’s less of it this time round but i continue to appreciate the way these movies play w the hilarity of how serious things look when shrunk down vs how silly it looks in full size. the fight scene w hope in the kitchen was pretty good!
- i felt doctor foster was kinda wishy washy to me as a character but i liked and respected ava starr/ghost as the villain. i hadn’t remembered she’d originally been a covert SHIELD operative that’s such an insanely interesting backstory what!!! the fact that they shelved her character after this movie n she’s only coming back on screen 7 years later for thunderbolts is crazy to me. mcu thy name is sleeping on/wasting potential
- the conflict scott was having btwn wanting to help hank n hope out of guilt for the accords situation+also genuinely wanting to get hope’s mother back vs not wanting to screw up his house arrest just days before it was let up was so stressful to me especially because no one seemed to be thinking abt how big of a deal kidnapping him out of his house/the fbi finding him out of his house was. 20 years in prison guys!!!! that’s what he was risking!!! are we forgetting his kid daughter he wanted to be around in her life for??? can someone stop kicking this man when he’s already down omg
- LUIS MY BUDDY MY PAL MY FAV COMEDIC RELIEF SIDEKICK. love the truth serum narration moment. i had my brother rewind so i could watch that sequence again. the exaggerated acting w luis’ overlayed narration in those things is always sooo funny to me sorry he’s so delightful
- there was a point during one of the fight/chase scenes towards the end of the movie where a really good song was playing. couldn’t tell you what it actually was but i mentioned it to my brother out loud like damn that shits pretty catchy so i just needed everyone to know i noticed it
- that end credit scene. YOU GUYS. pls no :’-(
- no one is going to convince me hank pym is a likeable guy im so serious ive had enough of shitty semi negligent semi neglectful semi abusive fathers who get away with it bc they were traumatised by the loss of their wife or something!!! GET THERAPY
- also im sorry at some point when multiple people in these movies are like i fucking hated that guy he ruined my life you gotta do some reflection n acknowledge that You. are maybe perhaps The Problem.
- ugh whatever. at least hope gets her mum back

This might sound silly but one day I communicated with some of my guides. I asked them "What character are you drawn to by appearance alone?" This question was limited to superheroes and the disney princesses.
My answer to the superheroes was Captain America and to the Disney Princesses it was Rapunzel from Disney's Tangled. When thinking about it it is silly that I decided to do a Marvel Cinematic Experience watchthrough going by the timeline recommended movies to watch first (all the way up until Eternals). I don't plan to watch more movies in the Marvel Cinematic Experience because it is just too much to continue with the movies that come out.
I remember telling my guides that I don't know why I was drawn to Captain America. I do like how his weapon of choice is a shield or that as he is depicted, that he adopts the name America and wears the flag in front of the people. In a way I view it as arrogant to wear the flag of your country and a statement that you represent the country as there are many countries on Earth. When watching the recommended timeline movie Captain America was first. I remember speaking to some of my guides and friends critiquing the film after the watchthrough. One particular comment that I remember is about the Captain's love interest being in the military in the time of World War as she looks to be out of place in both the time at the military and behavior. I know that some men like strong women but I remember one guide commenting that it would have been better believable if she had been a Nurse/Infirmary than in the Military.
Now I'm not saying that they are wrong about this because these are very good observations when watching the film. I remember I mentioned how hero films are "marketed to boys" and would argue with some of my guides about it since I presumed that their gender was mostly male. I would watch the MCU but I couldn't exactly watch it the same way as I barely watched Doctor Strange without blocking the screen sometimes.
For Disney's Tangled I even made it to watching the series. I did like how with this one it was my guide's Viorel princess that aer gravitated to by experience alone. Now for Rapunzel I remember mentioning how in Disney's tangled her artistic ability as she was shown to have drawn or if it was the Sun mythology with the SunDrop that later became a flower. It's even more endearing when you hear Eugene nickname her Sundrop in the series.
One thing one of my guides commented was how when Rapunzel asked Mother Gothel that for her birthday she wanted some paint and Mother Gothel mentioned that it would be 3 days time. Why would Mother Gothel worry about 3 days? I remember doing a character analysis of Mother Gothel as she has been "alive" for a really long time, probably more than 100 years as she was shown to be old in the beginning of the film. Mother Gothel "knows" how to talk to people by then as she even convinces the brothers about getting revenge on Eugene and convinces them to help her get Rapunzel back. As she says "Mother knows best".
What I don't understand is how Mother Gothel also had another biological child: Cassandra. It doesn't just imply that she had sex at some point, just how long had Mother Gothel been "alive" with the Sun's flower? Yes this is why she kept Rapunzel in the tower and makes sure that she stays in the Tower. When I asked for my guides favorite scene aer mentions it's when Rapunzel takes a "leap of faith" out of the tower and says "Here I go."
I remember making a point about blondes as I was drawn to them not just through Rapunzel but singers like Taylor Swift and Natasha Bedingfield. I even asked one of my guides if he was drawn to Rapunzel as he also had blonde hair and green eyes and I remember that they felt insulted. Captain America was also a blonde. I don't feel like dyeing my hair blonde because all those chemicals just to change hair color... I don't want it.
Anyway I asked about fictional characters. It's silly to think about it but I have learned that there is no such thing as wrong.

Update on my journey through the MCU
Finished The Incredible Hulk on Friday night and The Avengers today, making good progress!
Thoughts on The Incredible Hulk: Before I watched it, I was really dreading the movie because Hulk wasn’t exactly my favorite Avenger and a whole movie about him wasn’t something I was expecting to like, but I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the story line as well as Bruce’s character! It was also a nice surprise to find out that the original ripped boy, the Hulk himself, is actually a skinny little science nerd (well until Ruffalo took over, he’s a bit more built)
Thoughts on The Avengers: First I feel like it was just yesterday that the whole world was screaming about how good the Avengers was and how it was the best movie ever made and now I find out that it came out in 2012 AND SHIT I FEEL OLD. IT’S BEEN SEVEN YEARS?! For the film itself, I liked how they introduced each character separately and then they brought them all together (except Thor but it’s FINE) and THE BANTER was so well written! I lived for all the humor especially the little quips and jabs. Poor Steve being five steps behind because he’s been asleep 70 years, everyone making Hulk jabs, and Tony being... well TONY. Honestly it was really well done and I’m excited to continue my watch.

Captain America: The First Avenger (Rewatch)
Well, jumping right into this 'catching up on Marvel' adventure.
First, the plan is to do this mostly chronologically. I've been a part of some complex fandoms in the past, and generally, I encourage new fans to get into the games or movies or whatnot in order of release date. (Kingdom Hearts, for example. Birth By Sleep may take place 10 years before the first game in the timeline, but you'll miss a lot of important context in some of the scenes if you're not already familiar with the universe.) That mostly lines up in this case. Release date = timeline chronology, I mean. This first one is an exception. Once I get to the ones I'm blind to, I'll just be doing it all in release order. But as all of Phase One and most of Phase Two (as Disney+ is calling them) are rewatches for me, obviously I'm not worried about this one.
Now... Finally... to my thoughts on the movie.
I've gotta say it. The original Captain America has always been my least favorite Marvel movie. I don't dislike it. It just doesn't hold my interest like the others do. Part of that is that it's a very dark movie, visually. Every single scene is either a dark lab, a dark meeting room, or a dark battleground. Even when they're outside, it's almost always either so early the sun hasn't properly come up or looking like it's about to rain. Revisiting it like this, it makes me wonder if it was purposeful. Any movies that came out during the time it's set would have been in black and white. It's almost got that feel at times. Meanwhile, it really makes certain things-- the red of the shield, Red Skull's face, and of course, the final scene where he runs out into modern-day NYC, for example-- really pop. But personally... I just have a hard time staying focused when every scene is this dreary.
And in a story and characters sense...
Okay, so Captain America has never been my favorite Avenger either. Again, not in the sense that I ever disliked him... I really like his struggle to fit into the modern world and watching him find his place with his new team and all that in the Avengers. That aspect of his character actually is one of my favorite things about the original Avengers movie. But obviously, he hasn't gotten to that point yet during this movie. He's a very idealized sort of hero. His effortless bravery and simple, inherent goodness just doesn't speak to me the way, say, Tony Stark does. (We like the flawed, troubled, semi-reluctant heroes struggling to reform themselves on this Tumblr.)
There is an interesting side to characters like Steve Rogers, though. In the sense that no one is actually, really 100% like that. He's only human too, capable of making mistakes and being swayed by his emotions and all that. But again, that's not what this first movie really looks at. The First Avenger is where the legend started. A look into why he has the reputation he does. That reputation is just a little dull to me.
But this is just the start. Here's to the future movies.

marvel cinematic universe: captain america: the first avenger (2011)
The serum amplifies everything that is inside, so good becomes great; bad becomes worse. This is why you were chosen. Because the strong man who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows compassion... Whatever happens tomorrow, you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are, not a perfect soldier, but a good man.

MCU Watchthrough- Captain Marvel
So if you're a huge fan of the MCU movie Captain Marvel, I wouldn't read this rant/review it's not for you as Captain Marvel was not for me. Also tagging @kittypryde2013
I get what it was trying to do/be. It's supposed to be oh girls can be heroes too! Woo feminism! Marvel loves it's female audience! But it falls flat compared to all the other movies I watched prior and watched after it, excluding the incredible hulk, you couldn't pay me enough to watch the incredible hulk again.
From CGI to design, from plot to fight scenes, it just falls short and ends up feeling like a mere cash grab and poorly done pandering to an audience.
Starting with CGI for something made in 2019 it feels like it was made in the early 2000's, specifically spy kids quality CGI. And I know budgets are rough and some marvel movies have spotty CGI scenes but when the main battle in a marvel movie is all bad CGI explosions and t-posing ugly designed space suits with hair mohawks, it's clear that this was a cash grab intended for marvels female fan base, and in a sense, shows how unwelcoming comics and superhero media is towards its female fanbase as media that has a primarily male fanbase. Which I've heard extensively about, (*cough cough* looking at you malice) and as a man who drinks his 'respect women juice', that pisses me off.
Also the battles were so disappointing...the final one especially, since t-posed flying through space screaming woo as everything around her blows up was not done in any type of interesting or what I would consider to be up to par for a marvel final battle.
There was one good fight scene and it was when she beats the shit out of the Skrull who captured her with her hands bound in cement in the beginning of the movie.
Additionally, I feel like using the main 'girls can be superheroes too' superhero to set up an amnesia plot was an interesting choice and not necessarily a good one. When you give a character an amnesia plotline, you essentially turn them into a blank slate. Which isn't exactly the best choice for the 'girls superhero' because, to me, it kinda comes off as girls are naiive and need to be told who they are, which icks me out. They essentially turned her into a piece of cardboard for the others to interact with for over half of her own movie. Then, as she gets her memories back, it feels rushed and was done in a way that made it hard to really care about. For the rest of the movie, her character gets very little personality and sense of self upgrades before two more disappointing fight scenes, and then it was roll credits.
All in all it was 20% entertaining and 100% failed at what I believe it was trying to do.
