Headcanon to no particular purpose:

Mechanicsburg loves its visual, musical, and performance arts about as much as it loves its explosions and monsters and mayhem (the former often involves the latter anyway).

IN THE FUTURE, Agatha makes it known that she is happy to commission new works for the entertainment of her people (monsters and all) - on one condition:

it may not involve her family in any way.

She is...nonspecific about exactly who this includes.

Her immediate family, of course. No half-disguised Triumvirate romance operas will be tolerated in Mechanicsburg, and certainly not paid for by the Lady.

THE family, almost certainly. No historical stage retrospectives about the Heterodynes (Mechanicsburg has their own).

But...where does it stop? Can they put on dramas about fictional characters during recent history? What if they don't mention the Wulfenbach Empire specifically? What about the Queens of Skifander? How many degrees removed from Tarvek do you have to get before you can mention the Valois dynasty - or any of the Fifty Families they're related to...which is all of them? Is this artist really really really sure their subject wasn't involved with the Heterodynes in some way?

...Agatha is also nonspecific about what the consequences will be, and is kind of looking forward to finding out.

Mechanicsburg becomes the place to be for sci-fi and fantasy.

Paris gets all the historical shows and political farces, and tends to be the first stop for performers traveling from elsewhere in the World.

(Elsewhere, Heterodyne shows like Master Payne's circus are still going strong and writing new plays as fast as they can keep up. But it's understood that bringing them to Mechanicsburg isn't worth the audience, which will stand up and argue with the actors in real time in defense of their Lady, her consorts, and the rest of her family.)

It is so damn good to see Agatha back in Mechanicsburg. Like, she's been awesome in Paris and England and everything, but this is Her Town and she is In Her Element. The casual arrogance we've been seeing from her the last few pages makes me so fucking happy.

I'd been trying to go on a hike for almost a month, facing everything from weather to forgotten boots to a bum knee. When I got the chance to go out on a beautiful Tuesday this week I jumped at it.

"Wait, Tuesday?" you might be saying to yourself. Well, I've been between jobs (read: I got fired a bit ago) and after a week of applications and insurance I was going nuts.

As for where, I was on the Darlington Trail, which runs along the length of Pennsylvania State Game Land #170, just outside of Mechanicsburg. I had a 10-mile loop planned on my mapping app.

I do love me a good shroom stump, and they were plentiful.

The elevation stayed pretty level through the first chunk of the trail, although there were a few hills to climb.

After about two miles, it started to get more rugged and less level, although the trail never got hard to find, and I had enough signal for Footpath to show me I was on the right track.

Now *that* is some pecked wood.

A few patches of these flowers dotted the higher parts of the trail.

I picked one for my girlfriend, but lost it somewhere on the hike back.

The halfway point was a multi-way intersection between the Darlington, Tuscarora, and Appalachian Trails.

So, something in the last Girl Genius page has been sitting with me for a few days now. Major spoilers below.

We have the Klaus Collective here, yeah. They all seem to be different instances of Klaus setting off the time stop, which has… implications. Is Klaus destined to rule Europa in multiple timelines, only to clash with Agatha/Lucrezia/The Other/The Heterodyne and come to the nexus of The Time Stop? If so, is that nexus of timeline crossing the actual reason the Giant Time Being is there, versus someone stopping time in this dimension?

Most of them are looking up at the device as he was back in 2013, but some are having more unique interactions.

This guy is getting mad at the device and decided to stomp on it. Was it not working? Was it a delayed effect that he didn’t expect, cause he’s still here! Also, the Klaus behind him is having a blast. Good for him.

These three in the middleground and background seem as mix of concerned and annoyed with the situation. Like something happened during the time stop, and they got frozen in a Klaus Appropriate Expression™️. Or…

Or maybe they see Agatha. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Klaus Collective is aware of their surroundings. You could write this off as “They were looking at something when the stop came into effect”, but the Foglios are crafty. They would 100% take this and make it so that this possible awareness has implications down the line.

Especially because more are looking her way. With more important expressions.

Headcanon I don't need confirmation for:

In the future, there are at least three pubs in Mechanicsburg called "The Train and Castle".

They're in a huge petty competition to be the ONE TRUE "Train and Castle" pub.

Agatha's trying really hard not to get drawn into this. They're trying really hard to get her drawn into it. Van uses "the pub owners again" to get Agatha to do administrative Mechanicsburg stuff she's been putting off, because anything is better than the pub owners again.

(She knows he's doing it on purpose, but also it works.)

The Castle itself sometimes moves things around among the pubs in question, just to rile up "the pub owners again". They haven't caught on to it yet, and keep blaming things being in weird places, or outright missing/stolen/CLEARLY RIGHT THERE OVER YOUR BAR, on their rivals.

(This is why there always really are the pub owners again.)

The Mechanicsburg's Solstice celebration involving a role reversal of the Heterodyne being chased by the townspeople while the castle is asleep is very Saturnalia.

But I think my favorite thing is that the Jӓgers don't know. The entire city AND the Heterodynes made a game out of attempted regicide 1 night a year and decided the best way to keep it a secret from the Jӓgers so they don't interfere is getting them all shitfaced drunk for three days straight.

And it worked.

I think the Dyne's general weirdness probably kept the time stop from doing major damage

Of course I could be wrong

Now, my fluid mechanics understanding mostly comes from high school, but... if time is frozen in Mechanicsburg, doesn't that mean the Dyne is no longer flowing? After all, it makes no sense that time would be frozen for everything except the river.

Setting aside the ecological questions, what does that mean for the Queen's Spring beneath the castle? Has there been a pressure buildup in the two and a half years they were frozen that will break out when time resumes? Or is it possible that there is a network of underground rivers that feed those springs and some other spring elsewhere has entered a forced higher flow? Or even forced a new Queen's Spring to the surface somewhere else (but would that cause a flame to spring forth)?

I guess it probably depends if the Springs are connected or have their own aquifers not connected to anything else. But thoughts?
