.☘︎ ݁˖D-16 can't remember when exactly he first noticed the erratic pulsing of his spark straining against his metallic frame when you walked into the room. Just that, after all these cycles, it had remained constant, enrapt. Pulling him to you.

.☘︎ ݁˖D-16 has a tendency to pick at things he likes, things he finds bizarrely blissfulas. He wishes he could leave them alone, leave the questions locked under his tongue and the paint free of servo marks. But he can't, indifference only gets you so far, and while he tries to follow protocol. He can't always let things go. He can't let you go.

.☘︎ ݁˖He watches as you chip away at sedimentary rock, coated in soot as you trek for the liquid lifeline. He can't help but think you look like a princess from those old spark-tales. Circuitella. Dainty and disheveled. He wonders if he should offer to carry your jackhammer on the way back to the barracks. He wonders if his voice box can even form words in your presence. He settles for trailing behind you. Optics darting between the stone walls and the back of your helm. Orian laughs and laughs and laughs. D-16 can't help but see the humor in it all. Irony too early to land.

.☘︎ ݁˖He didn't mean to drag you to the surface. It just so happens that on that exact day, there was a forgotten crate. And in that exact moment, you'd decided to personally deliver it to the surface train. It just so happens he grabs your servo, pulling into the shadow of the crates. Tucked away beneath him. Heading for doom or glory or a grotesque third.

.☘︎ ݁˖D-16 is obsessive, longing for his darling from afar. Desperate for a sliver of your attention, desperate for the shadow of your presence. He can't help but watch you, optics trailing over your gorgeous features. He can't help but dream of the taste of your lips and sturdy touch as he chips away at a vein.

.☘︎ ݁˖He secretly collects little pieces of your essence. Keeping them locked in his chest chamber right above his spark. Chipped paint, a piece of metal from your plating, tiny parts of an old drill you once used. He needs you in ways he can't understand, ways that claw at his processor and spark like the wild beasts Megatrouns used to fight. Needs to hear your voice as you complain about a stiff joint or your breathy giggle as you laugh at him and Orian arguing again.

.☘︎ ݁˖He wishes he could collect stickers of you. Stick them across his frame and watch the iridescent glow under Cybertron's sun. Wishes he could decorate his measly possessions with your radiant smile and sparkling optics.

.☘︎ ݁˖Is it weird that I LOVE the thought of D-16 collecting stickers? Mostly of Megatrous but also of the other primes, famous racers, sentinel prime, etc.

.☘︎ ݁˖The thought of Sentinel Prime having touched you, having stolen a part of you (let alone a part of him) leaves him teetering on lava rage, leaving his spark breaking in ways he didn't know it could.

.☘︎ ݁˖D-16 is still a child, young and new by Cybertronian standards. But age isn't gauged by online cycles now is it? It's measured in accomplishments and opalescent dreams. So maybe the little Sparkling voice screaming in the back of his helm isn't too far off. Crying that by stealing his T-cog, your T-cog. Sentinel screwed up something in your circuitry. Maybe you were always sparkbound. Maybe you were the incarnation of Solus Prime and he, Megatronus. Maybe you where always destined to be together.

.☘︎ ݁˖These thoughts burn his processor during the treacherous trek back home, back to Iacon. Can you even call he even call that cage a home? D-16 hovers closer to you. Growing bolder, even daring to leave his servo on your shoulder pad. Daring to hold your servo and drag you out of danger.

.☘︎ ݁˖"Thanks, D" you chirp cheerfully and he thinks his spark might just erupt. "Yeah it's nothing" he mutters jogging after Orian leaving you behind with a giggling and concerned Elita-one.

.☘︎ ݁˖After "retrieving" Megatronus's T-cog from Sentinel he swears on Primus himself that he shall fuse you with Solus Prime's T-cog solidifying your love. Bounding you to him through every incarnation.

.☘︎ ݁˖D-16 is tragic in every way. His fall makes Cybertron shake, his new scarlet optics send a shiver through the universe. Obsession and subjugation. Anger and Hate. D-16 burns away, you feel it when you kiss him over Sentinel's corpse. The monster in his place bites your lips trying to devour every inch of your. Conquer, Conquer, Conquer

.☘︎ ݁˖Even if Orion Pax/Optimus Prime tries to protect you. Keep you in Iacon safe from the bot he once called brother. There is no way he can stop the newly evolved warlord from hunting you down. D-16 had always been loyal to his obsessions, tearing through everything to feel them under his servos. Although back then -when they'd been happy under a blanket of lies- D-16's obsessions had simply been holographic stickers of tragic heroes. Now it's bloodstained domination. Conformation to a macraber freedom. He's no longer a little minor bot tolling away, he's Megatron now. Hungry monstrous thing raging wars until he has both his darling and Cybertron in his grasp once more. D-16 had always told Orion that he thought you nothing less than a princess. And maybe it has always been true, after all, princesses are a tragedy too.

.☘︎ ݁˖Optimus can't help but shed a tear at the thought as he watches D-16 Megatron roll away...

✮ Upon your recapture, Megatron isn't too gentle. He's rough and angry. He's betrayed -again- it pricks at his spark like daggers. The first thing Megatron does is force Solus Prime's T-cog into your chassis. He promised you he'd bound you to him, didn't he? Promised you'd be together in every incarnation. And unlike every golden leader before him, Megatron intends to keep every one of his promises.

✮ He loves the sight of you writhing in pain beneath him. Runs his clawed servos over the the raw wires fusing and the circuits crunching into each other. The look of utter pain in your optics has his spark racing like the first time he saw you in the mines. He can't help but kiss you deeply, greedily swallowing your essence.

✮ You can taste his anger on your tongue. You roll the pulp of rage around your mouth swallowing the sadness, the desperation. Letting the taste burn the roof of your mouth. He calls you traitor and darling between each breath. And you can't tell if he wants to kiss your spark or decollate your helm and mount it on the wall of his new ship.

✮ Megatron suffers in shades and flavors that haven't been invented yet, you feel them swatch against your lips in every single one of his raging kisses. He isn't above leaving marks and dents across your armor. He likes you better this way broken and beautiful. Tragedy in every way

✮ He used to hate seeing you scared and defenseless. Now such a precious sight leaves him intoxicated, spark buzzing with overt excitment. He likes this power, feeling you tremble each time he raises his servo. Your life is laced between his digits, he loves tugging it harshly showing you how he controls you in every way imaginable. He likes being the monster that princesses fear. "Circuitella" he whispers under his breath, he knows you don't get the joke.

✮ Megatron likes to kill through you. Intwined digits holding a blaser, his claws on your digits pushing until the trigger releases and the bullets impale the target. He trails open-mouthed kisses across your back afterward. Sharp teeth sinking into the metal of your neck. He pulls you closer locked between his arms. When did he get so big? You remember when he'd been so utterly small. Little minor bot, where is he? Megatron never notices your melancholy optics or the whirl of your processor as it tries to distance itself from the physical world. All he cares about is your body wrapped within his. About the sweet taste of your metal and paint on his tongue.

✮ Megatron's love is lave upon open wounds, painful in every way. Where D-16's love had once been saccharine energon goodies and shy iridescent kisses. But D-16 is dead, he died with Orion all those centuries ago. Only Megatron remains. Lord Megatron, the one who keeps you caged, overpowers you with rough kisses and says "I love you" while pointing a blaser to your spark.

✮ I guess it's worth mentioning that D-16 would never harm his darling in any way but would absolutely avenge her if someone so much as left a scratch on her. Megtran punishes his darling for amusement and also because he loves her submission and fear. But I guess a little D-16 still lives inside him cause he will rip apart anyone who so much as touches his darling.

✮ Sometimes, when the lights are low and darkness begins to play it's ploys. You swear you see D-16 looking at you. Easy smile and bright sunny eyes. Body still tiny, with no pain engraved upon it. But illusions are always so quick to shatter, their precious shards melting under reality's brutal wight. D-16 withers away and in his place Lord Megatron stands. Piercing Claws and teeth gleaming under the dim light. He's gentle when he touches you laying something on your armour. Thin smile as he admires you, ethereal little you before leaving. You always check to see what he's left. It's always an iridescent sticker from his old collection...

D-16 (TFO) x Cybertronian!Reader

The prettiest bot I've ever seen in my whole life ( do not tell Starscream I said that ♪(´▽｀) ) - I kid you not, not a single Megatron has ever moved my heart as Transformers: One did. D-16 got me giggling, crying and screaming at the same time. Gender Neutral Cybertronian Reader!

WARNING: Spoilers from the movie (Transformers One 2024). First love to Angst.

I have two scenarios on mind: 1) You are another miner that works alongside Orion Pax, D-16 and the others. Or 2) You work on something else, You and D-16 getting to catch each other on daily basis from time to time, but never interact.

1st scenario gives me the vibes that you two get to always chat and work together, watching Orion drag D-16 to his little disastrous adventures and D-16 smiling at you awkwardly whenever that happens.

But you don't mind (you get worried sometimes, of course), always giving D-16 a soft smile or a lively chuckle as you go back to work.

And you don't get to see how Orion teases his best friend at how he is smiling like a dumb. D-16 tries to deny it... to then gush to his best friend about you. "Did you see how they smiled at me? They're so... (sigh) perfect."

2nd scenario would be a slow burn type situation - both of you always wondering about... well, everything!

And the first interaction both of you had was when, by pure coincidence, found each other in the middle of a busy day, among many walking by bots.

"Hello, m-my designation is-" / "Hi, I'm so happy to..." both of you start at the same time, fell silent and then laugh together at each other's interruption.

You get to see how D-16 and Orion end at the race, celebrating their ups and worry at their downs, even more at how D-16 got hurt nearly at the end of the race.

After that... it was like he vanished. And while you prayed to Primus for him to be safe and sound, he would be thinking about you from time to time the whole journey.

As you would keep going with your job (growing tired and tired for the sudden high demand of shifts at the mines or feel like something bad was about to happen) - D-16 would slowly spiral between rage, confusion, realizations and the worst thing - to find out about the whole true and how not only him and his friends were stolen from their freedom and right to transform... but you were also a victim. Just like them. Just like all of them.

With the 1st scenario... It brings you joy to see Orion back at the mines, now changed and looking like a true transformer. And your spark breaks at finding out about the true - but the words of the new changed Orion brings you hope.

But you can´t shake this concerned feeling inside of your spark. Where is D-16?

With the 2nd scenario... you are a sea of feelings, confusion and fear, not knowing why there was suddenly so much chaos and - wait, is that... Dee? But... he looks so different! Like Orion, but there is something else that makes your spark tremble.

And hell - you cover your mouth with your servos at the sight of Orion being shot, at watching how D-16 tries to save him but then decide to let him fall. You watch how Elita nearly jumps after Orion's body and Bee stop her.

The worst part? After witnessing Sentinel's brutal murder, Dee- no, Megatron's speech and how he takes Megatronus t-cog and change even more... you feel your spark break even more the moment your optics and his find each other.

Bright yellow optics found (color) optics in the middle of a busy day... and there was nothing but new found feelings. But now... aggressive red optics find (color) optics... and while the red optics try to remain strong, they can't help but soften at the sight of how your (color) optics hold fear. As if you were watching the optics of an unknown bot.

How badly he wanted to go after you and hold you - to tell you he finally avenged you just like he did for himself and everyone else...

We all know how it goes - Orion comes back now as Optimus Prime and defeats Megatron.

And before Megatron leaves Iacon - he looks after you. And your optics meet for the last time.

And you swear you got to see the same D-16 you met the very first time in your whole life.

And Megatron knows he has changed, from the top of his helm to the last atom of his pedes. But something never changed in him.

His love for you.

Nova Prime enacts “The Expansion,” for which the first wave of cold constructed Cybertronians are brought online

Megatron (1st cycle 012) and Orion Pax are born under Functionalism. Megatron is one of the first cold constructed mechs.

The Constructicons are created

Nova Prime disappears into the dead universe and Nominus Prime takes leadership under a new corrupt senate. Expansion is put on hold

Megatron works as a miner in Tarn (demolition=menial labor class) Megs wanted to be a medic but quickly gives up on that dream

Orion Pax works as a dock worker in Iacon (truck=transport class) OP wanted to be an archivist and is able to work his way up to it due to having access to greater social mobility

Cybertron experiences no shortage of violence: civil wars, riots, off-world campaigns, and alien invasions continue to happen sporadically throughout its history. Wanting to bolster Cybertron’s airforce, a new style of war-frame is designed and mass produced. These cold constructed jets received the classification: Seekers (after their intended function: seek and destroy)

Skywarp is born (6th cycle 023) as a first generation Seeker and was immediately sent to the military. He is then at some point reassigned to spec ops due to his powerful outlier ability.

Seekers offline too easily so the next few waves of Seekers are sent to the Cybertronian War Academy for training before joining the military

Skywarp is sent to Praxus and subjected to intensive study. Space bridge and quantum based hyper-drive technology will later see great advancements thanks to his contributions to science

Thundercracker is brought online as one of the last batch of Seekers (24th cycle 124). By then the Cybertronian War Academy roster was too full so he was given the (limited) option to pick his vocation. He chose to work as a courier in Vos.

“Those who were constructed cold face institutionalized apartheid; although this eventually ends due to mounting public pressure, including mass protests and marches. However, intrinsic prejudice against constructed cold Transformers persists in among a sizable percentage of the population.” -tfwiki

Megatron and pax become friends while advocating against cold construct apartheid and functionalism. Pax considered Megatron like a brother to him but Megatron always felt distanced by their class divide

Scientists have been pulling sparks out of the Matrix faster than frames can be constructed for them. Sparks without ready frames will be “frozen” for future use

The Matrix "runs dry" (is replaced by a fake) and cold construction as a common method of creation stops entirely

The Senate’s evil science division, the Institute, establishes Shadowplay and Empurata as common practices

The energy crisis forces a planet-wide rationing of resources

Cryak commissions a Seeker frame to be constructed and has a thawed spark placed in it. Starscream is born (22nd cycle 415).

Thundercracker finds Starscream

4.5 million BCE

Due to the energy crisis, tension is high between city-states. The Senate establish the sport of Gladiatorial games to try and mitigate the animosity. These games are held in Kaon and become very popular

Starscream defies Functionalism by pursuing many different jobs. Whenever he would get in trouble or fall on hard times he’d turn to Thundercracker for help

Orion Pax encourages Megatron to publish his political writings

Orion Pax joins the police force

The first appearance of the pacifist grassroots movement calling themselves Decepticons. Their ideology is based on Megatron’s first published treatise

Megatron is caught in a bar fight and is wrongfully arrested. Whirl beats him up in jail, changing Megatron’s perspective on violence

Megatron loses his job due to automation and signs up to be a gladiator

Starscream goes to college (not really, I just like to call the period of time where he went to work as a Scientist in Iacon "college" cuz it's funny XD) and meets Skyfire. The two become close

Senator Protius promises to make the Decepticons a real political party by way of census. In truth he just wanted a list of names so they can shadowplay all the Decepticons. Skyfire almost signs on but Starscream convinces him not to

Megatron continues to publish his writings while gaining fame as a gladiator. The Decepticon movement takes a shift from pacifism towards terrorism

Skywarp likes watching the gladiator fights whenever they are assigned to patrol the events  

The gladiator Ravage finds a discarded Soundwave struggling to deal with his telepathic powers and takes him under his wing

Skywarp plays a prank on the government

Starscream and Skyfire go off-world on an expedition, intending to travel to the Sol system and back (they're gone for about 40 turns on the Cybertronian calendar, or approximately 50,000 Earth years)

The Senate discover Nominus’ matrix is a fake and have him secretly killed

The Senate enacts the Clampdown

Thundercracker loses his job and is forced to join the military

4.3 million BCE

Senator Shockwave gets shadowplayed

Sentinel Prime takes leadership

The Decepticons begin secretly forming an army under Megatron

Orion Pax and Megatron break up

Starscream returns to Cybertron without Skyfire and is subsequently tried for Skyfire’s murder, for which he was found innocent. He is still expelled from the Academy

Megatron shows up to recruit Decepticons in the aftermath of the Vos-Tarn civil war. Starscream stands up and gives a speech that convinces the majority of Vos' Seeker population to join the Decepticons

Starscream joins the Decepticons

Starscream uses Skywarp to get close to Megatron

The Decepticons threaten war by launching an attack on Iacon. Starscream leads the group that levels the Academy to the ground. He doesn't feel better.

Thundercracker is deployed to help quell the Decepticon activity in Iacon. Thundercracker confronts Starscream and Starscream begs him for help. Thundercracker joins the Decepticons

Megatron is captured and almost gets shadowplayed, but escapes thanks to Starscream, Skywarp, and Soundwave

Megatron no longer thinks the current system can be changed, even with violence. Now his aim is to burn it all down and rebuild from scratch.

Starscream and Soundwave massacre the entire Senate

Shockwave completes his space bridge and visits Earth, only to find Megatron has completely lost the plot. After serving on Earth for a few years he goes back to Luna 2 with the intent on finishing his doomsday device, only to find Sunstorm has escaped. He begins migrating his lab to the Decepticon's ocean base on Earth in order to finish his work there.

Megatron obtains frozen sparks from Cybertron and builds the Stunticons. The Autobots rescue half the sparks he had brought over and create the Aerialbots

Starscream's plots to overthrow Megatron are becoming more and more unhinged. At some point he goes to Cybertron and steals some incarcerated memory components and builds the Combaticons, effectively freeing these criminals (including Swindle) from jail

Hot Rod and the Lost Light crew arrive on Earth

2008

Megatron goes too far

Thundercracker defects

2009

After the Decepticons destroyed several human cities, the Autobots finally defeat Megatron with the help of their human allies at the Battle of New York

Seeing that Megatron has fallen, Starscream declares himself the new leader, but Soundwave rescues Megatron's mostly dead body and convinces Shockwave to try and fix him

Optimus Prime dies of his injuries and Bumblebee becomes leader

Hot Rod, now going by Rodimus, leaves Earth on the Lost Light

2010

The humans are justifiably angry with the Cybertronians for destroying their world. Unable to leave the planet, the remaining Decepticons either get captured or go into hiding. 

Thundercracker watches a lot of TV and is now friends with Bumblebee

The Autobots are helping capture Decepticons on Earth

Starscream struggles to lead the Decepticons

2011

Sunstorm arrives on Earth

Starscream frees the Decepticons from human containment, but they still wont follow him

2012

The humans have rebuilt the cities that were destroyed by the Decepticons three years ago

Everyone basically living as tho the war is over

Megatron is brought back by Shockwave and immediately goes to punish Starscream for doing a poor job leading the Decepticons, even tho Starscream did his best.

Skywarp's loyalty to Megatron finally breaks apart, and he gets them out of there before Megatron turns violent, effectively defecting from the Decepticons

Starscream tries to apologize to Thundercracker in order to get his help with fighting Megatron, but Thundercracker turns him down. Starscream shoots Thundercracker in the back, much to Skywarp’s dismay

Starscream and Skywarp hide out on Earth for a bit

Megatron is trying to gather his scattered forces, specifically the combiners

Starscream and Skywarp have an argument and part ways for a bit

Starscream comes across some Decepticon activity and attacks them

Megatron shows up and begins beating Starscream to a pulp

Skywarp jumps in to save Starscream but is shot mid-warp and his warp drive destabilizes

The anxiety that wells up inside you whenever you’re due another meeting with Megatron is slightly less intense today. Yesterday was the first proper session and it was easier to get through than expected, maybe because you were allowed to take the lead and Megatron is clearly phoning it in? Can’t deny your curiosity for today either. Will he follow through? He did read Pride and Prejudice, so you figure he’d be fine with sharing some alien literature too.

“Hello again.” Megatron greets you as you take your usual place. You give a polite nod in response.

“Did you pick something out?”

“Yes. I found some poetry that might be of interest.” He taps at a datapad, sending you a copy. “It was fairly influential at the time of writing.”

“Hm. Interesting.” You murmur, scrolling through the text you’ve just received. A handful of glyphs you recognise, but the vast majority of it is incomprehensible. “I can’t understand Neocybex very well, though.”

“You’ve been living amongst cybertronians for several years and you lack even a basic grasp of our language?” He looks at you with contempt, as if you’ve never made an effort to learn.

“I-” You’re about to make a cutting remark in response, because he obviously doesn’t know about the obvious barriers to learning a mechanical language, but you stop yourself when you notice the ghost of a smirk gracing Megatron’s lips. He’s messing with you again. Refusing to be baited, you start over, more deliberate in your response. “Neocybex uses a wider range of pitch and frequencies than what humans are capable of hearing, so some of it is completely inaudible. You try reading a language when you physically cannot comprehend a third of the phonetics.”

“Maybe you should try harder.” He’s dismissive in tone, still trying to get a rise out of you.

“Maybe you should translate the poem? I can’t discuss something I can’t read. That’s why we’re here, isn’t it?” Technically you’re here because Ultra Magnus ordered it. But if he’s going to be condescending, you want to see how far you can push being able to speak freely and take the lead.

“Very well.” Rolling his optics as he stands, you flinch on instinct, for a moment worried he’s going to approach you. Megatron lets out an amused vent at your reaction before clearing his intake, and then he begins to read aloud for you.

Upon finishing his translation, Megatron sits back down. It has to be said, his performance was impressive. Usually so lacking in expressiveness, this little poetry reading seemed to make him come alive. There was a passion and fury to his voice that almost made you feel something in turn. You can see how he could have easily amassed enough followers to kickstart a revolution, he can be practically oozing with charisma when he chooses. There was one issue, however. A glaring problem with the text he selected.

“Either whoever wrote this…” You trail off, thinking over how to continue. Can you get away with being honest? You figure since he’s been messing with you it’s only fair. It’s not like he wrote it, anyway. “Either they don’t know the first thing about what makes for good poetry or you’re a terrible translator.”

Megatron’s expression falters ever so slightly, if you weren’t already scrutinising him you’d have missed it. Evidently he was not expecting you to criticise something so influential. A heavy silence descends upon the room. He didn’t, did he?

“… Did you just read one of your own poems?”

“Is that a problem?”

“No? It is a bit weird though.” Is it an ego thing? Some attempt at asserting intellectual dominance? “I expected you to start with your influences rather than jumping straight into a Megatron original.”

“What influences?”

“Surely you read other people’s work before writing anything yourself?”

“You think I had time to read for pleasure while being forced to work like a slave in those mines?”

Watching you open your mouth, only to think better of responding to him, Megatron feels a twist of emotions. On the one hand, he’s won the exchange in that he’s likely managed to make you feel ignorant, for failing to take into account his hardships. On the other, you just insulted his writing, or at the very least his attempt at translating into English. It shouldn’t bother him, you’re just a human. There may be a spark of intelligence behind those strange looking eyes of yours, but at the end of the day there’s only so much your kind can comprehend. Besides, it definitely sounds better in Neocybex. It’s not his problem your species has defective hearing. Resting his chin on his servos, he studies your diminutive form from across the room.

You’ve found the confidence to talk back, but always look like you’re ready to run away at a moment’s notice. He doesn’t understand why you’re making such an effort when he certainly isn’t. He’s playing along for now because you’re an amusement. A small distraction away from the lunacy that is daily life on this ship. Nothing more.

“Putting your shoddy translation aside, the message of your poem is clear.” It’s not worth engaging with his attempt at making you feel bad for him. Better to put your focus back on the writing itself for the brief moment you have left before you can go.

“You think you understand something you describe as badly translated?” He scoffs.

“Please, your performance gave it away. It was obviously written at a time when you were furious with your circumstances and wanted things to change for the better.” Your timer goes off, signalling the meeting’s end. “It was also about as subtle as a sledgehammer and very repetitive. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I don’t understand the criticism that Skybound’s Transformers run is “just shock value” or “edgy.” Are people saying that just because characters are dying and fighting? Because to me, that's not "edgy"—that's war.

This isn’t a story about peace talks or diplomacy. The war has dragged on for too long, and now that they’re stranded on Earth, desperation is pushing both sides to take extreme measures. They’re not posturing anymore—they’re surviving. Choices that might’ve once seemed unthinkable are now necessary.

Take Skywarp being torn apart by Soundwave and Starscream, his body used to revive others through Teletraan-1. Or Optimus reviving Jetfire not because he wants to, but because they need transport. Or Elita choosing not to destroy Shockwave’s Earth-draining machine.

These aren’t examples of unnecessary gore or edge—they’re consequences. Brutal, painful, and inevitable consequences of war. 

Maybe it's because I’m new to the franchise, but the deaths didn’t feel excessive or gratuitous. They gave weight to the story. They showed that no one is safe, that these characters—despite being giant robots—can be wounded, broken, or lost. Both sides are desperate. And it shows.

There’s no easy victory, no light at the end of the tunnel. All they can hope for is to survive another day. To find someone they thought they’d lost. To discover a place untouched by war. To meet someone innocent, someone who hasn’t seen what they’ve seen. Maybe they win a battle. Maybe they just make it out alive. That’s what these stories are made of—those fleeting, fragile victories.

This is a war story. It shows the cost of war. Characters die, not for shock value, but because the stakes are that high. It reminded me of war films and games my brother showed me growing up—harsh, emotional, messy, and deeply human, even when the characters are robotic.

And if Skybound’s run were really just about “being edgy,” we wouldn’t get scenes like Prime transforming to bring joy to a sick child. Or Carly comforting Ultra Magnus. Or Cliffjumper using the remains of his fallen clan to build a new bot, reigniting hope back on Cybertron.

Yes, there’s gore and darkness, but those are part of war. Amid the violence, the Autobots are still portrayed—flawed though they are—as beings who want things to be better. That’s not what you find in a typical "edgy" story, where hope is absent.

Even Spike’s arc could’ve been pure edgelord fodder. His brother is dead, his father was an inattentive alcoholic who ultimately died reviving Optimus, and Spike himself—especially early on—faces a future in a wheelchair. If anything justifies a dark, brooding character arc, it’s that. But the writer smartly holds back, giving us a version of Spike that still has heart and decency despite everything.

One of my favorite scenes was when Spike took Carly to the lake and admitted he couldn't feel anything after learning about his father's death. He’s grieving deeply, grappling with his possible paralysis.

And still, after watching Carly tear into Cliffjumper and seeing Cliffjumper’s crestfallen reaction, Spike gently places a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. That’s not edge. That’s empathy.

Honestly, the so-called “shock value” people complain about didn’t really affect me the way they think it should. Transformers, in this setting, can be repaired—sometimes with enough energon and parts, sometimes not. They’re forced to adapt, sometimes painfully. Look at Starscream—he survives by having a tank grafted onto his frame. Warpath has spare parts bolted to his chest. Optimus loses his arm and replaces it with Megatron’s. Ultra Magnus is little more than an endoskeleton before he's repaired.

The things that really shocked me weren’t the deaths—they were the decisions. The moments that shifted the narrative:

Megatron’s return—expected, but still powerful

None of this is cheap shock. These are character-defining moments, powerful developments that made me feel awe, grief, hope, and even joy.

I loved this story so much I branched into the rest of the Energon Universe—Void Rivals, G.I. Joe, and the miniseries. The interconnected storytelling blew me away. For the first time, I wanted to own physical copies instead of just reading digitally. That’s how much it hit me.

Void Rivals has become like a second Transformers book to me. I love the space opera tone, the characters Darak and Solila, and the worldbuilding. I’m dying to know what Springer and Hot Rod will do next—and I’m really curious about Skuxxoid.

It started slow, sure, but it’s picking up fast. With the Quintessons entering the scene, Pythona searching for Cybertron, and Zerta Trion or Beta sharing stories of the past, the mystery and stakes keep growing.

I’ve also been enjoying the Duke miniseries and the G.I. Joe comic. I never thought I’d care about military guys reacting to alien robots, but Duke’s fascination with Starscream and his mission to uncover the truth about these beings has really grabbed me. And now, with a familiar Transformers character set to appear in Issue #6 of G.I. Joe, I’m even more excited to see what’s coming next.

More than anything, I hope we get to see the four central figures—Optimus Prime, Darak, Solila, and Duke—all meet someday. That would be incredible.

Sorry for the long rant, but I keep seeing people dismissing this story as “edgy” or “shock for the sake of shock,” and criticizing the art or the use of G1 designs just because the creator enjoys them. Honestly, I’m just tired of it.

Because what I see is not edge for edge’s sake. I see a raw, emotional, beautifully drawn war story, filled with characters making impossible choices—and still, somehow, holding onto their spark.

Hello, yes, I'm a sucker for these bastards. For the sake of my sanity and limiting the wait time, I only took the Decepticons on earth (plus Shockwave, bc Shockwave is <3) and not all and every one of them. I do hope you enjoy this, and now let's get to it.

Soundwave

Soundwave is a very logical and goal orientated bot, it doesn't even really occur to him that he isn't good

After all, his goal in achieving robots and mechanical beings as the rulers not the workers is going to benefit all kind of mechanical life

So he really has no problem with you per se, but with the cause you align yourself

It's really a shame as well, you would be such a good ally

even if you don't end up becoming a Decepticon, as long as you don't hinder his plans too badly he can accept you as someone who will see reason when the time arrives

With your kind attitude, he knows you will get used to it, when the time arrives, and then you can maybe become even more than friends

A thing that he especially loves your sweet and caring behaviour towards his cassettes

He cares deeply for them, so to have you treat them so gently makes his feelings go wild

Blitzwing

Blitzwing is a rather loyal bot, so he doesn't like you insisting he's actually good deep down

Icy simply ignores your insistences and tries to correct you, even if he pulls his punches in a way he would never admit

Hothead on the other hand sees your kind behaviour as a personal insult

Are you saying he's not a real strong warrior, going so soft on him?

Not on his watch, he almost always insists on fighting you when the opportunity comes up

Random thinks your sweet personality is cute and aggravating at the same time

He wants you to keep going and at the same time to stop, he'll egg you on and in the same breath lean into your words giving you a bit of hope of getting through to him

It's a slow fall, but when he realises his three personalities go about winning you over differently

Icy cuts back on the physical fighting and engages you in verbal fights that are far more attempts to show you he can be what you think he could be

Hothead doesn't change too much, he's not one for too soft feelings and attempts to show you that he could protect your sweet nature easily

He does also love to give you words of affection, where Icy prefers gifts

Random loves to spend time with you no matter in what way, as long as you're close and having fun

Though his fun is relative, he does attempt to make it fun for both of you

Lugnut

Your chances of actually winning Lugnut over are very low

He is a warrior and not necessarily the smartest, but he is loyal as all hells come

There is a use in bots that have a talent with words that he can acknowledge

But there is already one bot whose words have pulled him into an orbit

He might develop some kind of crush on you, due to your kind side, but unless you change to the Decepticons he will most likely never act on it

But sometimes he likes to think of you, not as an Autobot, but a Decepticon like him and imagine what it could be like

Those times are very rare, however

Shockwave

Shockwave is at the same level of loyalty as Lugnut and there is very little that could make the Decepticon reconsider his opinion

He thinks it's rather cute how you attempt to convince him that he isn't actually that bad and good deep down

During his time as Longarm Prime, he had seen your kind behaviour directed towards many bots for various reasons

It's a no-brainer that he took advantage of that several times

But still, even as useless as your endeavour is, he can't deny that you're cute

Maybe, just maybe, he should get himself a little souvenir from Cybertron

Surely Megatron wouldn't mind his spy indulging himself with a cute little prisoner

He'll show you how wrong you are with your opinion, but don't worry, he'll give you a very long time to attempt to change his mind

Depending on how forceful you behave, you'll stay with the Decepticons for a very long while, or he'll set you free, because he grows too fond of you

Starscream

He will deny having any good in him vehemently

The moment you start to talk, he'll talk over you and don't you even think of speaking over him

That's actually the first thing he really notices

Sure, he knows you exist, but he only starts paying attention after he notices that you actually let him do his speeches and listen as well

It's surprising

He pays more attention, and he can't help, but be very pleased by the attention you give him, no matter if it is to convince him he's actually good or some bullshit

At first, he only uses you to stroke his own ego

But as time goes by he starts to really care for your validation

He'll search you out in fights and outside of fights

Megatron

Making sure your attention continues to stay on him at all times, no matter what

You don't stand out to him at first, and it is unlikely that he will notice you in a broader setting

But when it comes to a one on one meeting things change

You're so small in comparison to him, most Autobots are, and usually he doesn't care much for it beyond battle advantage

He brushes your words off at first

From his point of view, he is the good guy

But as you keep running into each other, he can't help but note that you seem far more innocent than even your fellow Autobots

You try to see the good in every thing and every one, and you help where you can

It's hard to imagine a bot like you being a product of an Autobot lead Cybertron

He is impressed that you have not yet consumed the propaganda every Autobot seems to believe and hopes that it will stay the case for longer

Once he notices that he is growing fond of you, he reverses your situations

Where you have tried to appeal to him before and bring out his good side, he now attempts to appeal to you and win you over to the Decepticons

Mutuality

A WaveWave (Soundwave x Shockwave) fanfiction I had sitting in my notes app since June.

Everything they’d established was mutual. Everything was temporary.

Yet…

Soundwave worked through long cycles at a time. Although Vehicons worked as equals with said con, they would often head out in herds and murmur amongst themselves, turning towards their higher upper in ignorant secrecy. “He wouldn’t go… Workaholic… Always so quiet…” They would say and leave, yet the communication officer didn’t care. He liked it alone. He… was alone.

Being alone wasn’t too bad as Cybertronians put it to be. Sure, all sentient beings such as humans are social creatures. Why wouldn’t a biological AI be? Soundwave scoffed in silence, amused by discussions of socializing and friends, some bot to lean onto. He has no need for that, but somehow in some way, he still felt empty.

Mega-cycles prior to the events of the Civil War, he was just a gladiator within the rings of Kaon. Almost besting even the then most notorious Megatrous, and as an ex-senator, he had ways to keep himself occupied. Soundwave was as loyal as Orion Pax to Megatrous. The latter would then become the last Prime and Megatron’s archenemy, but Soundwave saw the light Megatron envisioned and showed. The Decepticon saw himself as the only one deemed inseparable from the Decepticon cause and to Megatron until he was wrong.

Shockwave… was a newcomer and was immediately impressed by this visionary. He devoted himself to the cause with the knowledge of science at the back of his servo. He was of great use; easy to bond with if you were Megatron.

… If you were Megatron… or…

Soundwave found himself side to side with Shockwave when calculating the future events that would behold on their precious planet. They hardly talked. Well, Soundwave never did, but it seems as if Shockwave could read his thought processor and always understood him no matter the situation.

They found themselves together through their work and even areas of leisure. Each one’s company filled the other with unexplainable warmth, craving it yet never so close. It was vulnerable and bitter, but also sickly sweet.

Everything they had was mutual. Everything was temporary.

Shockwave never returned to the Nemesis after their last battle at Cybertron. He assumed he sacrificed himself for the fruition of the Decepticon cause… or lost his life to a disposable Autobot. However, he kept those words to himself as he always did. He never showed his concerns. Not even the worries of a lost friend…

Thoughts of Shockwave bored into his processor as days went on.

When Shockwave did come back, Soundwave held his tempered emotions between his empty exterior, wondering still thoughts and muted feelings. As the meek Starscream and honorable Megatron discussed the whereabouts of Shockwave’s new discovery, Soundwave turned his HUD mask to that scarlet orb of a con. He stared at Shockwave, spark still alight.

Soundwave found Shockwave admiring the space of blue and violet at the Nemesis’s large interior window. Soundwave usually patrolled the corridors before heading to his berth. It was a mere task any mech can do, but he found it as an excuse to clear his mind off of the stress the crew caused numerous times, be it their own or the Autobots.

He stood by Shockwave, neither inching closer or away. He too glanced up at the night-lit aurora that passed through each universe. The stars reflected on SoundWave’s screen; it was beautiful.

“Surely my disappearance didn’t cause too much of a strain for Megatron or the faction,” Shockwave started, his free limb swayed to meet his chassis as red optic focused on Soundwave.

Soundwave shook his helm. “Negative: Decepticons, steady process.”

“You?”

“Affirmative: Soundwave… ” He stopped himself. He couldn’t start now. How uncharacteristic it would be, the silent and vicious Communication Commander, speechless for words. But even then, he wouldn’t lie to Shockwave, so why now?

“Troubled.”

Shockwave nodded the best he could for an Empurata. “I expected as much, for a high command, you are valued - for me, not as much.” His partner resisted the urge to scoff, to break the vow of silence to argue it was not. However, he said nothing. Instead, he turned to Shockwave and latched his paper-thin fingers over Shockwave’s oppositely sharp ones. They mindlessly took hold of each other’s small embrace, their figures never unmoving until their chassis touched and faceless helms pressed into gentle bliss.

As opposed to Soundwave’s cold exterior of a vision field, Shockwave was hot, radiating heat that warmed the equally cold-sparked mech. The way Soundwave cooled Shockwave’s underlying heat which never faded from Kalis and the Enforcers.

Despite this mutuality, there was indeed something. War was a terrible, terrible concept that separated many physical and mental bonds. At best, Shockwave and Soundwave never made any. Still, their existence lingered within hard metal and soft sparks.

Even if everything they had was mutual… everything was temporary, they had everything.

The Buddy woke up in another unfamiliar place and just knew they were going to be in for it.

 For one they were on the Nemesis med slab.

Second, the first bot they saw was Megatron.

With blue optics.

…

Buddy breaks through their restraints and jumps back.

“Megatron! What are you doing?!”--Buddy

Megatron raises his servos in front of him in surrender.

“Please, calm down. I am not here to hurt you.”--Megatron

Buddy looks at Megatron’s optics and slight frame change.

“Megatron, what happened to your optics? And your frame?”--Buddy

Megatron raises an optic.

“Buddy—”--Megatron

Buddy face palms.

“Oh Primus… I’m in another dimension, aren’t I?”--Buddy

“…You did show up in a ball of light on the flight deck.”--Megatron

“That checks out. You wouldn’t mind explaining what is going on in this universe would you?”--Buddy

“Of course. We have a room on the board for you to stay in.”--Megatron

“…Thank you Megatron.”--Buddy

While touring the Nemesis, Buddy gets introduced to this universes Starscream and Soundwave.

Buddy had to admit that they caught them a bit off guard with their personalities.

Starscream seemed to be like a mother hen and cared for those around him.

Soundwave was quite a chatterbox and extremely expressive.

“You should get that looked at Buddy.”--Starscream

Buddy looking at him a bit surprised.

“Oh… No thank you Starscream, I’ll be fine.”--Buddy

“Okay… but if it gets worse you let me know. I will personally get you to Knockout and Breakdown.”--Starscream

Soundwave lift up one of Buddy’s wings.

“Primus! I forgot how heavy your wings were! They are so big! I mean look at them!”--Soundwave

Buddy looks a bit startled but masks it up with a smile.

“What ‘were’?”--Buddy

“Let’s move on with the tour!”--Megatron

Buddy gives Megatron a side eye but leaves it alone for now.

They met some of the others on the ship but mainly stayed with the three of them.

Buddy noticed that Megatron stayed particularly close to them. He rarely left their side during the entire time they were in this universe.

Buddy brushed it off for a bit, but eventually got too curious about it. And after hearing their alternative and the usage of past tense…

And how many of the Decepticons looked at them with either double takes or with nostalgia optics.

They needed to know what was happening.

Buddy sits down next to Megatron outside the flight deck of the Nemesis.

They sit in silence.

“…Something happened to my alternative, didn’t it?”--Buddy

Megatron tenses at the question.

“You don’t have to answer it Megatron. A simple Yes or No will suffice. I don’t need to hear any of the details if you don’t want to talk about it.”--Buddy

“… You were once a part of this team, this family. But on day we were ambushed by the Autobot’s. The cavern was caving in… you… you and your selflessness… you fought Nemesis to buy us time to get out… You never came through the groundbrigde… We went back to get you… but it was too late…”--Megatron

Megatron pauses for a minute before continuing.

“Nemesis snuffed your spark before we got the chance to help you… buried in the rubble… and…”—Megatron

Megatron looks down at his servos.

Buddy wordlessly wraps Megatron in one of their wings as several tears escape his optics.

“It was all my fault Buddy…”--Megatron

Buddy huffs a bit making Megatron look at them.

“If this Buddy is anything like me, Megatron, I highly doubt that they would want it any other way. They went out trying to save their family. And they would want to whack your helm for even thinking that this was your fault. It’s not your fault Megatron.”--Buddy

Megatron leans a bit more into Buddy’s side.

They fall into a comfortable silence for the next hour before returning inside.

Soon after a few more days Buddy was sent back home.

The portal once again showed up and Buddy knew it was time to say goodbye to everyone.

Buddy wraps their wings around the Con’s.

“Thank you, my friends. Till we meet again!”--Buddy

The Cons wave back as Buddy steps into the portal.

Buddy finds themselves in one of the hallways of the base.

Buddy looks around and spots Optimus working on the main screen.

Wordlessly they walk over to the Prime and gently place their helm on his shoulder.

Optimus looks over.

“Buddy?”--Optimus

“Shush… Just let me have this Prime. It’s been a long couple of days.”--Buddy

MTMTE/LOST LIGHT First Time Read

Short time text text because it's 4am. I had to finish it...The Lost Light was short and I had 4 chapters left. Had heat exhaustion twice in one week, lack of sleep for days but I couldn't help but finish just so I can go back and reread parts I didn't understand/have an excuse to finally look up this comic without massive spoilers.

I had never read a lot of long ass comics. But wow have I just had a wild ride. I think it took maybe two and half months to read this? Maybe more. One of the few things I had difficulty with reading but pushed through because how captivated I was with the story and its insane cast of characters. I have tons of new favorites I will now create powerpoint slides to present to my friends now on how much I've enjoyed my time with them.

I am so thankful for the internet due to these comics being out of print. And my past self just happening to own volume 1 of Dark Cybertron and never donating it despite not fully understanding what it was until this year. I hope these comics get reprinted one day but I guess for now I'll hunt down copies because I think I want to do these comics a service by having physical copies...

Anyways I 100% recommend this series as a first time reader for reading any Transformers comics. It was pretty difficult at first but I got the hang of it for a while. Not sure it helped that I was already familiar with a lot of the characters already like Rodimus, Megatron, ect. ect. ect.

Here's a link to a reddit post about the order for reading MTMTE/Lost Light. Though, when you come to Dark Cybertron it comes it two volumes so you don't have to switch between MTMTE and RID issues. Like I said I have the physical copy for Volume 1 of Dark Cybertron but mistakenly went back to reading MTMTE and had not realized the issues were alternating.

The reddit post mentions it but I was dumb and didn't fully read it. I just kinda kept going to the next page with a jarring lack of information thinking a lot of stuff was happening off screen.

Immediate ending spoiler nonsense thoughts down below:

Yeah the ending note made me tear up. I am in the mist of consuming a lot of Transformers Media before Transformers One comes out...I had decided to read MTMTE because I think I wanted something that I felt when I watched Transformers Prime. More detail in the characters. I think I flipped when I found out Ratchet who I've seen 3 iterations of on tv has a love interest. Megatron and Optimus have like....just...yeah it's gay. Unhinge divorced but never married gay interactions, then there's more gay, then idk I just started learning more and more about it all from just doing research all for a powerpoint party I hosted and because it was my birthday I was able to go up to 45 minutes due to birthday privileges.

Like I can go from liking Megop to MiniMegs? Is that the ship name? Idk it's almost 5am. But it's not even about pairings at this point, I'm going on an insane fucking adventure. I'm reading this shit in a King's Hawaiian parking lot now being part of my core memory. Actually that part does have a pairing. I'm seeing this:

I went through emotional toil in a restaurant parking lot with my friends to see and not understand the shock I'm having after I get out of the car.

I understand the flowers. That's a fuck ton.

I technically got spoiled about who Rung actually was but it had been so long I actually was STILL shocked when I found out at around 3am. Though...I didn't know he fucking died. Guys he fucking died. I think he came back or its one of his children idk man he fucking died and there's a character with a very similar color palette to him in Cyberverse.

On a random note I guess they weren't that close but Im surprised there wasn't a conversation between Nautica and Chromedome about forgetting Skids in a sense of grief. And it just kinda happened to her...Though I am glad she was still prioritizing Velocity.

Okay so Terminus just dies off screen and Megatron never finds out that he gave him the wrong location?? Damn. But I guess it was no hard feelings when he reunited with the Lost Light so that's all fine and dandy.

This is the one of the few stories where I am proud bullshit with no further explanation reunites tragic lovers. This series lets me live. I mean there was a very simple explanation why Tailgate didn't fade away from Cyclonus' arms but when that moment happened I was like yeah fuck it let them be happy. Of course Kaput was gonna go Kaput but rip can't believe it had to get Tailgate involved.

Ah Anode and Lug were cute! I think it took me a bit to warm up to them but I think I start to like characters when they start having fun dynamics with the rest of the cast. Anode and Swerve pranking each other on the shrinking ship with all hell breaking loose with the rest of the Rod Squad is just...yeah that whole chapter was paced so well.

Okay Whirl didn't just win me over, he snatched my heart and made a clock out of it with his lil pincers. I love this fella. He's such a homie. Top 10 in my list of characters with best character growth.

Okay okay...so the ending right...I knew Ratchet died in the end. Or a portion of the end. But it still caught me off guard. Not to mention I thought Tailgate had died in the end too. I mean it was technically true. But still...ouch. I saw the panel with the Rodimus Star and thought it was so dumb. Had no idea that it was so much more impactful than I thought. Legit before knowing the context I thought Rodimus didn't want to give his most inner energon and gave a Rodimus Star instead. Oops.

I've seen panels of Minimus and Megatron interact and had no idea that it was from the final issue.

This series has given me a small portion of joy I couldn't feel for the past few months without it. A boost in creativity and expanding a range of wow that's a lot of fucking insane shit that can happen and still be fun huh?

Personality: She’s that one girl who often mean, rude, cold and “emotionless” which most bit doesn’t like her, but once your kinda her ally, she’s only smile toward you but she’s afraid to get close to someone which why she’s sometimes push people away

Backstory:

**the first part: her younger life** 

blacklight was only a sparkling when her mother got killed by a unknowingly figure, and sentinel just took her in for no reason, during her years, she met Orion pax who like to spend his time in library and d-16 who like to train so he can become the next gladiator of Cyberton. Of course with d-16 wanting to be like megatrous and wanting to be the next prime but Orion being Orion, believe it doesn’t have to go his way and that when sentinel decided to make him the next prime and megatron got jealous and started to be piss until Optimus banish megatron that when Optimus knew that he need to be prepared for what horror is coming. Blacklight was interested with Optimus, and want to be a solder but sentinel saw that she was too young too native and too “dumb” to be a soldier

**The second part: the war began**

Optimus was busy training some of the bot, blacklight spend her time trying to prove that she got what it takes but never happen that when she met Redfire, a femme who captures blacklight spark, they got to know each other, putting them in their friend phase and think that Redfire is the partner for her, megatron came back and destroying Cyberton, blacklight got separated from Redfire but red told her that she will be fine and ask blacklight to follow prime, so she did and find sentinel who was busy trying to get the pillers, but he didn’t know that blacklight got stuck under some rubble and he just left her behind after his life of being a parent to her after he kill her mother. While blacklight was trying to get out of the rubble, she decided to run back to red only be captured by tempest who beat her badly then took her left eye and kidnapped her to use her as a experiment. Blacklight woke  back up to see that Redfire actually become decepticon, blacklight thought she betrayed her but Redfire did it for her but tempest still had plan to use blacklight

**The third part: blacklight first decepticon encounter**

Blacklight learn that tempest is testing a new weapon, project 56 who was made some dead cybertonian corpse and tempest want to see if its will do as she say which she say kill blacklight, 56 almost did, but blacklight manage to tricks 56 to eat tempest, with that blacklight manage to escape but she realized she was the only (auto)bot left on Cyberton so she took a decepticon pod and leave her home 

**Fourth part: blacklight on earth**

The year was 1989, Blacklight landed on South America, she’s was pass out then, but she didn’t know who found cuz after she came to, she woke up to the maximals, because she’s was scared, after what has happened to her, so the maximal decide to help her out for a bit until she can get back on her feet, she’s got a new eyepatch from rhinox, sometime she would be with dinobot and just watch him fighting, she’s started to train at first she wasn’t good at it until the with primal help, she’s started to get better at it. Primal knew that it’s was time to let her find her real friends and her future destiny but she actually didn’t want to leave but she promised to see them again. She started to head out, scan her first mode and decided to explore this earth.
